We all know about the club championship that your local club has, but there are competitive opportunities outside of that for interested golfers. In fact, if you are serious about competitive golf as a senior, there are plenty of events to keep you busy.

I’ll cover some of the top options to consider and look into. For the exceptional players, of course, there is the Champions Tour. We covered that in great detail here ; take a look and see if this is something that could fit the needs of your game.

Overview of USGA Senior Amateur Championship

A friend made it through qualifying for the USGA Senior Amateur, and it was a lot of work. He’s a great player and on the younger side of the age requirement (which is 55).

The tricky thing about a USGA Senior Amateur Championship is that you won’t be able to just sign up; you first have to make it through levels of local qualifying. You also need a handicap index of less than 7.4.

I’ll tell you now, the guys that play in these events are incredible ball strikers, even into their 60s.

The yardage for the final event plays to about 7500 yards, so if you are a 7.4 playing from closer to 5800 yards or even 6000, you will have your work cut out for you here.

If you can pull off a win at the USGA Senior Amateur, in addition to your gold medal, you will also get the following:

Golfweek Senior Amateur Tour

The Golfweek Senior Amateur Tour has been around since 1999, and it gives all golfers over 50 years old (is that a senior now?) the ability to play in competitive events all over the United States. The Senior Amateur Tour has 26 Local Tour events, and in the year 2022, they hosted more than 350 tournaments.

When you play golf in the Golfweek Senior Am Tour events hosted by your local tour, you can earn points based on where you finish.

If you end up with a great season and collect plenty of points, you can get an invitation to the Senior Amateur Tour National Championship. This is a huge event, with more than 450 golfers playing 36 holes.

The great thing about this Golfweek tour is that you can compete and be a champion even when you have a higher handicap.

Interclub Golf

Interclub golf is run by your state golf association, and it is intended for a member of a club in good standing with a proper course rating and handicap compliance. If you are an active dues-paying member with a GHIN number and your club is involved, you can certainly see if you can qualify to play.

Interclub is designed for golfers of all ages, although in some local areas, you may find that it is more senior based than junior based. Players typically have to be 21 years of age.

Interclub matches will pair you up to play against golfers with similar handicaps. The lowest two handicappers from your club will play with the lowest two handicappers at another club.

Interclub golf gives you a great opportunity to meet other people, stay competitive, and get to play other golf courses.

State Golf Association Opportunities

Check with your state golf associate to find out more details on their senior amateur championship. Most states have a very competitive senior amateur field, and this will be similar to events conducted by the USGA.

British Senior Open for Amateur Golfers

If you haven’t already noticed, the USGA and R&A do many things the same. Therefore, if the USGA Senior Amateur is not for you, you can consider the British Senior Open for amateur golfers.

The British Senior Open for Amateur Golfers is for ages 55 and above.

This golf tournament has been around since 1969, and you will have to have no higher than a 2.4 index to enter. One of the most interesting facts I found when looking into this tournament opportunity was the fact that Charlie Green won this event 6 out of 7 years that he played.

USGA Senior Women’s Amateur

Senior women’s amateur golf can be just as competitive, especially when it comes to the Senior Women’s Amateur hosted by the USGA.

In addition to having your amateur status, you will also need a USGA Handicap Index showing that you are not higher than 18.4. In addition, all women golfers playing in the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur need to be older than 50 years old.

Local qualifying is hosted as stroke play, and the finals are a match play situation.

Are There Options For Super Seniors (Age 65 & Older)?

The US Senior Amateur, Golfweek Senior Am Tour, and even Interclub golf will not keep you from participating if you are older than 65 years old.

However, if you want something specifically geared to the super senior golfer, AmateurGolf.com has a section with tournaments for super seniors over 65 years of age.

Even into your 70s and 80s you can play in events like Society of Seniors National Super Senior Championship. Golf handicap requirements and tee positions will get friendlier as you age so you have that benefit to look forward to.

How to Become an Amateur Golfer?

If you have never accepted money for playing golf or teaching golf, your amateur status is intact.

If you were previously a professional, you can have your amateur status reinstated ; you have to go through a process with the USGA. This process typically requires you to wait a certain amount of time from the last time you violated amateur status.

However, if you were not in the golf business your entire life, you should be eligible from an amateur status standpoint to play in any of these events.

Senior Tour Age & Requirements

As I mentioned above, with each of these tours, you can expect that there is an age requirement. Some associations and institutions consider 50 to be a senior; others call it 55.

The good news is you don’t have to wait until 65 to be labeled a senior golfer.

The PGA Tour Champions call golfers seniors when they turn 50. Some of these players are working harder and harder to stay young and will likely try to remain on the PGA Tour as long as they possibly can.

Others are happy to make the switch and put some money in their pocket.

As a side note, Tiger Woods is 47. I’ll be watching how this one develops!

Eligible players to be considered for the MGA Team must be a part of the Northern, Southern or Metro sections. Player’s performances in the Super Senior or Gross section will not qualify them for the MGA Cup Match Team. Unfortunately, at the moment the WSGA Senior Tour does not have Women’s competitions so there are not matches for women available in this Cup Match event.
Each Northern, Southern and Metro player’s total for performance points awarded in ALL of their Section and All Section events will accumulate for an overall MGA/WSGA Cup Match standing.
The top two players in Senior Net, Senior Gross, Master Net, and Master Gross from each regional section (Northern, Southern and Metro only) in the WSGA-MGA Cup Match overall performance points standings will be invited to represent the MGA team for this event.
The participating players are responsible for the event fee that includes an MGA team uniform, green fees, range balls and prizes.

Over 434 senior players from 27 Local Tours competed in the 2023 Senior National Championship!

Hilton head island, s.c. – this year’s tournament marked the 25th anniversary of the senior amateur tour. in all, 434 players competed in the two-day event and each one of our 27 local tours was represented. in the championship flight , chad frank won his first senior national championship, but he is no stranger to being a national champion since he earned the title in 2007 as the golfweek amateur tour champion. frank opened the 2023 tournament at golden bear with a three-under-par round of 69 and a two-shot lead over bill shufelt and don o’malley. the players all went to oyster reef for the second day to determine our 2023 senior national champion. going into the back nine trent gregory , bill shufelt , tony burbridge and ernie watson all put pressure on chad frank . frank stood on the 17th tee box with a comfortable lead until he double bogied the hole and shufelt only trailed by one shot. shufelt hit first and piped it right down the eighteenth fairway while frank hit his ball right and landed almost out of bounds under a bunch of trees. frank punched out and landed about 70 yards from the green while shufelt hit it on the green about 25 feet away for birdie. frank then hit the shot of the day going from 70 yards away to about 5 feet. shufelt rolled his putt and just missed on the low side before he tapped in for par. despite the pressure, frank found the cup and completed the amazing up and down for the victory. congratulations to all that battled on the back nine before we crowned chad frank with his first senior national championship., chad frank , orlando, fl (69-75—144) trent gregory , central, nc (75-70—145) bill shufelt , orlando, fl (71-74—145) tony burbridge , columbus, oh (75-71—146) eddie watson , michigan (73-73—146) in the a flight, the field was close, and three players battled it out throughout the second day ( mike dowless, ronnie fowler and ronnie averett ) at the robert trent jones course in palmetto dunes . at one point, dowless, fowler and averett were either tied or held the lead outright. in the end, on the final hole of the round, dowless finally won and earned bragging rights. fowler fired a 75 losing by one stroke while averett posted a 76 and lost by just two shots. dowless now has the pleasure of being the 2023 a flight senior national champion., mike dowless , eastern, nc (75-73—148) ronnie fowler , nashville, tn (74-75—149) ronnie averett , mississippi (74-76—150) scott ide , charlotte, nc (76-76—152) kevin martin , charleston, sc (79-74—153) steve evans , jacksonville, fl (77-76—153) dana shoulders , columbus, oh (77-76—153) in the b flight, amalaraj irudayaraj played consistently both days and finished two-strokes ahead of the field with a two-day total of 160. gil ro finished second at 162 and chris rogers placed third with a 163. once again, congratulations to amalaraj irudayaraj on his first ever win to become our 2023 b flight senior national champion., amalaraj irudayaraj , indianapolis, in (80-80—160) gil ro , central, nc (82-80—162) chris rogers , augusta, ga (82-81—163) jamie branham , central, nc (79-85—164) michael anderson , cincinnati/dayton, oh (84-81—165), the c flight saw the only sudden-death playoff of the week as john bowman and dennis guerriero remained tied after 36 holes. in a one hole sudden-death playoff, bowman was victorious. and took home his first-ever senior national championship with a two-day score of 171. guerriero cashed in second and mike grant finished third with a two-day total of 176., john bowman , charlotte, nc (82-89—171) * sudden-death win dennis guerriero , michigan (85-86---171) mike grant , charlotte, nc (89-87—176) john kline , columbus, oh (92-85--177) terry lawson , (90-87—177) in d flight, roberto benavides came from behind to beat both stan lee ( by three shots) and les tice (by four shots) to become the senior national champion with a two-day score of 181. benavides had quite a week as he also finished in third place in the golfweek national championship. lee fired a two-day total of 184 and tice finished at 185 with benavides taking home the hardware and the title of 2023 d flight senior national champion. roberto benavides , columbus, oh (96-85—181) stan lee , cincinnati/dayton, oh (92-92—184) les tice , orlando, fl (93-92—185) benton smith , central carolina (93-93—186) mel portalatin , new jersey (93-94—187) central carolina got their name back on the team cup trophy with a two-day total of 1669. finishing in second, and only two shots back, was last year’s cup winner jacksonville, fl at 1671. charlotte, nc took third place with 1676 shots followed by columbus, oh with 1680 and augusta, ga at 1694., turning to the edwin watts 2 man team challenge , be sure to congratulate the tim rusk (louisiana) 306 b flight: dave parker (indianapolis, in) and amalaraj irudayaraj (indianapolis, in) 331 c flight: dennis guerriero (michigan) and scott holland (augusta, ga) 349 d flight: benton smith (central carolina) and richard pfister (central carolina) 377, thanks to palmetto dunes and the arthur hills course for being host again for this year’s national championship. the senior amateur tour grew 2500 members on 27 local tours in 2023 and we are excited to add two more for 2024, this season marked the eighteenth year hilton head island hosted our national championships. our 1245 competitors (434 senior amateur tour/791 golfweek amateur tour) collectively played on nine courses: country club of hilton head, oyster reef gc, bear creek, golden bear, robert cupp at palmetto hall, hampton hall, atlantic dunes at sea pines and robert trent jones and arthur hills at palmetto dunes..

Registration for Art Asquith Senior Golf Tour is Monday

BEMUS POINT — Registration for the 20th year of the Art Asquith Senior Golf Tour will be held at the Bemus Point Golf Club and Tap House at 10 a.m. April 15.

Registration for the Tour, which is for golfers 60 years or older, is $20. Coffee and donuts will be available. The schedule includes 24 matches at courses around Western New York and Pennsylvania.

Once again, the Tour is participating in the “Bunkers in Baghdad” program which provides used golf equipment and golf balls to U.S. troops. Golfers are asked to bring any items they wish to donate to registration.

The PGA TOUR heads to the Dominican Republic for the Corales Puntacana Championship, the next Additional Event on the 2024 TOUR schedule.

The PGA TOUR uses a standardized system for determining event fields based on the current season’s Priority Ranking while also including additional exemption and qualifying categories.

Field sizes can vary by event, as can the number of event-specific exemptions. Fully exempt PGA TOUR members are guaranteed entry into all full-field events, with various conditional categories subject to periodic reshuffles based upon FedExCup Points accrued throughout the season. Categories with "reshuffle" notation indicate that a reshuffle period has occurred.

Note: An additional year of eligibility was granted to some categories because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

AUGUSTA, Georgia -- Along with the blooming azaleas and pollen-covered pines at Augusta National Golf Course, there are other signs that the 88th Masters Tournament, the first major championship of the season, is finally here.

Some of the best golfers in the world who have labored this season are making last-minute changes. Rory McIlroy , who will try to complete the career Grand Slam by finally winning a green jacket, visited swing guru Butch Harmon for help. Justin Thomas , who painfully missed the cut in a driving rainstorm in 2023, parted ways with his caddie, Jim "Bones" Mackay.

Defending champion Jon Rahm made the biggest change of all in December, when he jumped from the PGA Tour to the LIV Golf League. He'll be one of 13 LIV Golf players in the field, along with Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson , who were runners-up a year ago.

It is the first time in more than eight months that the game's top golfers -- from both the PGA Tour and the LIV Golf League -- will be competing in the same tournament.

Wolstenholme ready to take on Moscow

Gary Wolstenholme is preparing himself for ‘a test of golf' at Moscow Country Club with the VTB Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior) set to get under way on Friday.

And Wolstenhome, a three-time winner on the Staysure Tour, has played Moscow Country Club on two previous occasions and he is relishing the chance to tackle a course which he believes is in better condition than ever.

“This is the third time I've been here and I've become more impressed with the golf course as I've played it,” said Wolstenholme. “I think the golf course is definitely in a lot better condition than when we were here three or four years ago.

“The weather's been very difficult, so the green staff have had to work very hard to make this such a good venue. The design of the golf course is an extremely good test.

“It's long and it creates a test for players to play both right-to-left and left-to-right shots which, if you're a golfer, you appreciate that creates more of a test in itself.

“I think the course lends itself to long hitting, especially with the weather that we had last night as the course is pretty long anyway.

“Magnus P Atlevi, Stephen Dodd, Phil Price, from Wales, and Phil Golding, who won at London Golf Club recently, all stand out to me as having a chance to do well, but golf being golf, who knows? I might even do well! It's such a good test, I think only a very good player will do well here.”

Golf is an emerging sport in Russia and Moscow Country Club is at the forefront of the quest to encourage more of the country's natives to start playing.

Wolstenhome, GB&I's record points scorer at the Walker Cup who also received an MBE in 2007 for services to golf, has outlined both what he thinks is needed to grow the game, and some of the benefits which accompany it.

“To me, I think driving ranges are the future as far as giving people an opportunity to play the game,” he said.

“Short golf is the future, as are par three tournaments and things like that. To me, that's where we can get golf going in the future.

“Golf has the opportunity to be able to cross dividing lines, whether it's social or cultural. The great thing about golf is wherever you go in the world – and there are golf courses everywhere – from war-torn areas to the most affluent areas in the world, you transcend that.

“You can have somebody who is the lowest of the low from the point of view of not earning a great amount of money to multi-millionaires. You share that enjoyment of what is actually an incredibly difficult sport.”

Joining Wolstenholme in Russia this week is Staysure PGA Seniors Championship winner Philip Golding, Order of Merit Number Five Phillip Price, WINSTONgolf Senior Open champion Stephen Dodd and 1989 European Tour Number One Ronan Rafferty

The action begins in Russia on Friday August 17, with José Manuel Carriles and Jean Pierre Sallat the first group to tee off at 8.00am local time (BST+2).

This Sunday, the 2024 Masters will tee off with Holes 4,5 and 6 starting at 10:15 a.m. Third Round coverage will air on CBS starting at 2 p.m. ET.

What channel is the 2024 Masters on?

For US viewers, the Masters tournament will air across a mix of ESPN and CBS. With select coverage streaming on ESPN+ and Paramount+. ESPN will air the first two rounds of the tournament on Thursday and Friday, and CBS will cover the third and final rounds this Saturday and Sunday.

Both ESPN+ and Paramount+ will have early coverage before the ESPN and CBS broadcasts all four days of the tournament, starting at 8:45 a.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10:15 a.m. this weekend. Masters coverage will also stream live on the 2024 Masters website , starting at 8:15 a.m. ET Thursday morning. So if you want to tune in before the televised first round begins on ESPN, that’s your best bet.

The best golfers in the world have once again converged at Augusta National Golf Club in search of the coveted green jacket. This is the 88th edition of the annual Masters Tournament , so will we see a brand new winner or will one of the 18 former winners playing in this year's tournament claim the championship yet again?

Day 1 proved to be exhilarating. Not only did we see the early tournament favorite, Scottie Scheffler , prove why so many people were backing him to win, but a few dark horses emerged as well. LIV's Bryson DeChambeau leads the entire field after Day 1, shooting 7-under par on Thursday. Other golfers who weren't given great odds to start the tournament like Danny Willet (-5) and Nicolai Højgaard (-4) also played some incredible rounds. Even Tiger Woods had some great moments and moves into Day 2 ranking inside the top-20 at 1-under.

From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.

Three more days are left in this year's tournament, with one round played each day. The cut will happen after Day 2, and only the top-50 players on the leaderboard will advance into Saturday and Sunday. It's unforgiving, but what else can you expect from a tournament as heralded as The Masters.

Moscow Country Club Becomes Latest European Tour Destination

European Tour Properties has extended its portfolio of Destinations by welcoming Moscow Country Club as the 28 th venue within its extensive network of world-class venues.

Situated only an hour outside of Moscow, the club features Russia’s first 18-hole championship course and will host the Staysure Tour’s VTB Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior) from August 17-19, 2018.

The Country Club combines five-star hospitality with top-quality golf in a tranquil setting close to the Russian capital, and this new partnership extends the network to 28 venues within 21 countries, across three continents.

It’s masters week. here’s how you can play golf tiger woods-style.

Even with a greatly reduced playing schedule and tournament appearances that have become rarer and rarer, Tiger Woods remains the most popular athlete in golf. Every time he does tee it up, interest in the tournament spikes, and this week may be the biggest of them all: the Masters , an event he has already won five times. It was also the last of the 15 major championships he won, in dramatic fashion in 2019.

Augusta National, home of the Masters, has been a magical place for Woods, and may offer him the best shot at a miracle return to glory. But for the vast majority of golfers, simply attending the Masters is a fantasy, while playing the very private course is a non-starter. This is one case where walking in the footsteps of legend is an unlikely proposition, but the good news is there are plenty of other such options.

For starters, there are the courses Woods has actually designed. I think if you are a fan, you get a more direct connection and unique Woods-experience on these rather than by visiting the courses he has played—especially since there are so few of them. Woods’ nascent golf course design business has been successful so far, and he is certainly in demand, but with a schedule that involves still competing and other endeavors such as his new clothing brand, he simply has not had time to do to many courses, and of these, several are private or still in progress.

Payne’s Valley At The Big Cedar Resort

Far and away the top pick in this category would be Payne’s Valley at the Big Cedar Resort in the beautiful Ozarks region of Missouri. Payne’s (named in honor of Missouri’s beloved golf legend the late Payne Stewart), was the very first public 18-hole layout Woods did in this country, and as such the first opportunity for most American golf fans to actually play one of his courses. I’ve been, I played it, and it is fantastic.

Many top pros like Jack Nicklaus who made the transition from competing to design came out of the gate too tough, as if they were building course for their own best in the world game. The beauty of Payne’s Valley is that it is incredibly user friendly and playable for all abilities, with strategic risk/reward decisions that become more daunting the further back you play, but with immense fairway corridors that give even wayward tee shots room. I wrote in detail about the course here at Forbes ( “Tiger Woods’ First Public U.S. Course is Awesome” ) so I’ll let you read that instead of diving deep into it again here. But just to give you an idea, the highlights include vast cliff faces of exposed stone, waterfalls, substantial elevation changes, a cave and two island greens, one of them a bonus 19 th hole unlike anything in golf. It’s visually stunning and a joy to play.

The other great thing about playing Payne’s Valley is that it is located at one of the nation’s premier golf resorts. Big Cedar Lodge is the passion project of Bass Pros Shops owner Johnny Morris, who has been called “the Walt Disney of retail” for his elaborate, theatrical and visually driven style. You’ll find all of that in spades at Big Cedar, an outdoorsy yet luxurious resort that sits on 42,000-acre Table Rock Lake and has two state of the art marinas, a world-class shooting facility, private nature preserve, all sorts of other activities, and five golf courses including the three best in Missouri. Other star designers featured here along with Woods are Jack Nicklaus, Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Tom Fazio and Gary Player. It’s the one place you can play a fantastic full sized design by Tiger Woods and a weeks’ worth of other great golf without leaving the resort. When the Woods’ course was completed they also added some of Big Cedar’s most luxurious lodging in the form of swank cabins alongside Payne’s Valley.

El Cardonal At Diamante

The next best option is Diamante , a golf resort community in the exploding luxury golf and travel hotspot of Los Cabos, Mexico. A real estate focused golf and beach development, Diamante also has a resort component in the form of vacation rentals (with a 3-night minimum). The golf is also open to outside play and there are more great luxury hotel options in the area than I have room to list. El Cardonal was the first public eighteen Tiger Woods designed in North America, and now hosts an annual PGA Tour stop, the World Wide Technology Championship, so you can kill two golf dreams with one stone, playing a Woods course and playing a PGA Tour venue.

Diamante is another place where you can follow Woods but also get in more great golf. The resort also has a fantastic second eighteen, the Dunes by Davis Love III, which is one of the best in Mexico and ranked on Golf Magazine’s Top 100 list. Woods also designed the Oasis, a 12-hole par-3 course that wraps around an 8-acre lake. Woods is at work on a third eighteen-hole layout here, The Legacy, which is projected to open this fall but is rumored to be private for real estate owners only.

Pebble Beach

Woods seems to have a fascination with short courses, and in addition to the Oasis at Diamante, you can tee it up on his contribution to America’s most famous golf resort, Pebble Beach . He was chosen as the designer for a replacement for the old Peter Hay short course and his solution was more evocative of the famed resort’s better known 72-holes, including the Pebble Beach Golf Links. In fact, one of the nine holes, the second, is a near exact replica of the most famous par-3 in America, the 7 th at Pebble Beach. While that course is very difficult (and very expensive) to get on, the new Hay is just $75, whether you stay here or not, a bargain by this resort’s standards. The Hay also has a Woods’ designed 20,000 square foot natural grass putting course.

While you might not make a destination trip to play 9-hole par-3 course the way you would for Wood’s full designs at Big Cedar and Diamante, Pebble Beach certainly has plenty more golf, with three of the most coveted public courses in the country. It is also a crossover to our next category, great courses that were the sites of Woods victories where you can tee it up. Except he didn’t “just” win at Pebble, he made history. In 2000, in his 100 th professional tournament, he won the 100 th edition of the U.S. Open, the most difficult Major—15 strokes ahead of the closest competitor. It was the largest margin of victory ever in the U.S. Open and the biggest in any Major since the 1862 Open Championship (British). Golfweek Magazine called it ”The greatest golf ever played.” Oh, and for good measure, he also won the “regular” PGA Tour event here, the AT&T, the same year.

The easiest (and cheapest) way to personally sample Woods’ design work is at PopStroke , the “technology-infused golf-entertainment concept” he is now part owner of. A putting answer to the hugely popular Topgolf chain, it’s slogan is “Eat.Putt.Drink.” and each PopStroke facility has two eighteen hole mini-golf style putting courses, many of them designed by Woods’ TGR Design, plus music, food and lots of beverages. There are around a dozen locations, including golf travel hotspots such as Scottsdale, AZ; Myrtle Beach, SC and Tampa, FL. Several more are coming soon, including Las Vegas.

The other way to experience golf Tiger Woods-style is to play the same public-access venues he has won at. Golf Digest actually did such a compilation , called “Here’s every course you can play where Tiger Woods has won,” so if you want to dive deep, read that (though it doesn’t include international courses). Personally, I’ll only focus on the highlights and notable venues, such as Pebble Beach, above.

Torrey Pines

There’s no course he has had more success at than Torrey Pines , where his eight wins include another Major, the 2008 U.S. Open. Torrey Pines is already wildly popular for virtue of being one of just handful of Major venues in this country that are public. The Open is played on the South at Torrey Pines, but the regular PGA Tour event uses both eighteens, North and South, and they are both excellent. It’s a municipal facility, not a resort, and because of a local-focused system that gives a great booking edge to San Diego residents, the best way for the rest of golf travelers to experience these layouts is through a stay and play package with guaranteed tee times at the Lodge at Torry Pines , which also happens to be an exceptional luxury resort that literally sits right on the golf course.

Firestone Country Club

The all-time PGA Tour record for most wins in one place is eight, and Tiger has done this three times. Besides Torrey, there is Firestone Country Club , which has long been private but recently added a boutique option for overnight lodging, making it a de facto “public resort,” though on a low key small scale. Once this happened Firestone’s South Course jumped onto the Top 100 You Can Play Lists of Golf Magazine and Golf Digest . The South Course is where Woods won his Major here (Jack Nicklaus also), but given how many events have been played at Firestone, including three PGA Championships, the World Golf Championships and the Bridgestone Senior Championships, marquee tournaments have been on the North Course as well. With 54-holes, caddies and history it’s well worth the effort, and I wrote about its private/public loophole here at Forbes .

Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge

Tiger’s third spot for the historic eight-fecta was Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge near Orlando, Florida, another legendary golf travel destination, one of the top golf resorts in Florida, and one well worth the effort to visit.

Cog Hill Number Four, aka Dubsdread

Tiger won five times on another of the most coveted truly public (no resort) courses in America, Cog Hill Number Four, aka Dubsdread, in Chicago. It’s the Windy City’s answer to New York’s Bethpage Black, where Woods won the 2002 U.S. Open. Bethpage has also held the PGA Championship and is scheduled for an upcoming Ryder Cup, after which it will join legendary Pinehurst Number Two, currently the only course on earth that has hosted two different Majors and the Ryder Cup. But actually getting a tee time on the municipal Bethpage Black, one of five eighteen hole courses at the Bethpage State Park facility , is quite an ordeal, and it doesn’t have a luxury resort end-around like Torrey Pines. Cog Hill is extremely busy but you can actually book online tee times in advance, and with four courses, they do multi-day multi-round packages that make the marquee Number Four easier to get on.

Plantation Course At Kapalua

Woods only won the PGA Tour’s season opening Sentry Tournament on the Plantation Course (one of two eighteens) at Kapalua once, but it’s a longtime favorite of mine and easily one of the best in Hawaii, which is saying something. After a pandemic $100 million upgrade, the adjacent Ritz-Carlton Kapalua immediately became one of the nation’s top luxury golf resorts, and I love that place, and wrote about it in detail here at Forbes .

The Old Course At St. Andrews

Last but not least, I cannot fail to include the Old Course at St. Andrews , though no golfer alive needs Woods as inspiration to visit the game’s Holy Grail. In his miraculous 2000 that saw him win the U.S. Open by the largest margin ever, he also made history at the (British) Open Championship, shooting a record low 19 under par. Five years later he returned and became one of just five players in history to win the Open twice at the Home of Golf. As long as you are making the trip across the pond, Woods also won the Open at England’s Royal Liverpool .

Lundin Earns Fifth SEC Golfer of the Week Honors

Following his second-straight individual title on Tuesday, senior Jack Lundin of the University of Missouri men's golf program was named SEC Golfer of the Week for the fifth time this season.

At the Tiger Intercollegiate this week, Lundin carded a 13-under 200 over three rounds (64-70-66), including 22 birdies to win the tournament by two strokes. The 200 tally marks his career-low three-round total – and eighth-lowest score in school history – while his opening-round score of 64 is the lowest 18-hole total of his career – placing ninth in the school's record book.

Lundin's individual medalist honors follow his titles at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in his previous tournament. The senior is the first Tiger to win back-to-back championships since Jace Long accomplished the feat during the 2010-11 campaign.

Entering last week as the No. 21 golfer in the college ranks, Lundin collected the weekly accolade for the fifth time this season – also doing so on Sept. 21, Feb. 7, March 14 and March 27. He extended his streak of top-five finishes to five straight and 7-of-10 tournaments overall this season as he owns a 69.27 stroke average in 30 rounds.

Lundin and the Tigers return to action on Wednesday, April 24, in St. Simmons, Georgia, opening play at the SEC Championship.
