Riley Green on Tour

Country singer Riley Green is just about as Southern as Southern gets, and the Alabama boy lets it all come through every time he hits the stage. From that deep-down twang in his voice to the lyrics of songs like "Bury Me in Dixie" and "Georgia Time" that celebrate his background, you get a full picture of Green's origins whenever you come to see him sing. He's a storyteller at heart, and when he settles himself in front of a microphone and starts strumming his guitar, he knows how to get his stories across to an audience. He does it with a minimum of fuss and a whole lot of pure, unadulterated emotion. Throw in a truckload of Southern charm, and you've got a classic, winning combination.

Riley Green in Concert

For most of us, the first place we ever saw Riley Green wasn't on a concert stage, it was on a reality TV show. He turned up as a contestant on CMT's Redneck Island during the program's fourth season in 2014-2015. Although he didn't make it far on the show, Green obviously had bigger fish to fry. The Jacksonville, Alabama–born singer/songwriter released his Outlaws Like Us EP in 2017, and it didn't take long for him to start making a splash on the album charts. By the following year, he had his first bona fide hit single, "There Was This Girl," and from there on the sky was the limit for the young country artist. In December 2018, he solidified his status as somebody to take notice of in Nashville, making his debut appearance at no less august an institution than the Grand Ole Opry. After a string of strong singles, Green's 2019 debut album, Different 'Round Here, arrived to make it abundantly clear that he had a consistent vision and every intention of sticking around for a good, long while.

Riley did a great job! Amazing concert! Love his music!

Flora-Bama Show

Riley Green and Tracy Lawrence put on a great show at the Flora-Bama, what a fantastic venue right on the beach!

THE BEST CONCERT EVER

This was truly the best concert ever! Tickets were so easy to purchase and general admission wasn’t even super packed! My group got there at 2 and security started letting us line up around 3:30, gates opened at 4. We were second in line for GA and we got to be right in the middle against the gate! It was such a cool experience being on the literal sand!! I will forever remember Duckman Jam!!!

Awesome Concert

As usual Riley put on a phenomenal show. He just keeps getting better and better. The DUCKMAN Jam was my 11th and 12th show since seeing him the first time in 2020 at FloraBama. The first was my favorite because my favorite artist at my favorite place. Both of these shows were just as awesome if not better.

Best Concert Ever

No better place to listen to REAL country music than Florabama on the beach! Great experience and flawless product!

Excellent venue and performance

We thoroughly enjoyed Riley Green and Tracy Lawrence. Couldn’t have been a better venue on the beach at Flora-Bama

This was my first time seeing RG in concert. He was so good and put on a great show! I left being a bigger fan! His music has been on repeat in my car non stop since the concert. Looking forward to seeing him again!

Pricing of drinks

The concert and venue was perfect. Two mix drinks was $48. That is beyond ridiculous

Great show!

All 3 artist put on amazing shows! Although Riley Green was the headliner; Tracy Lawrence was my favorite! And the tribute they did together for Kenny Rogers, Joe Diffie, Charlie Pride and Charlie Daniels was INCREDIBLE! ❤️

Awesome Concert!

Riley Green puts on an amazing show! My Bestie and I had such a great time! Would definitely see him again!

Tickets For Riley Green’s ‘Ain’t My Last Rodeo Tour’ Are On Sale Now, And It’s A Show You Don’t Want To Miss

riley green tour 2023

Riley Green   is hittin’ the road for his best and biggest tour run yet, and you don’t wanna miss out.

He’ll be playing 33 different cities on his Ain’t My Last Rodeo Tour , taking arena and amphitheater stages across the country, which also includes a stop at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado.

If you’ve ever seen Riley live in concert before, then you know he’s not one to jump around stage, dancing or doing too much to where it takes away from the music or anything of that nature, but is always engaging with the crowd and delivers the straightforward, true country music we all love so much.

Needless to say, I don’t think that’s going to be changing even with these bigger venues and such an extensive headlining tour, and he’s certainly had great practice being out on the road with Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen opening shows for both of them as part of their respective stadium world tours in 2023.

Joining Riley on this trek will be veteran country great  Tracy Lawrence  and up-and-comer  Ella  Langley , which is a fun mix of both legend and new country that really rounds out the billing in a cool way.

With Riley gearing up to release his sophomore studio album  Ain’t My Last Rodeo  on October 13th, he says he can’t wait to add so many new songs to the set list:

“‘Ain’t My Last Rodeo’ is inspired by what I know best: hard work, life outdoors and family and it’s going to be fun adding these new songs to our full set.

I’ve been a fan of Tracy Lawrence since I was a kid so I’m looking forward to having him out with us and watching the fans singing along to all his hits.

I also really love what Ella Langley is doing –it’s going to be a great time all around.”

The 12-song tracklist features fan-favorites like  “They Don’t Make ‘Em Like That No More”  and  “Ain’t Like I Can Hide It,”  in addition to the previously-released singles in  “Mississippi Or Me,”  his cover of Tim McGraw’s  “Damn Country Music”   and a reimagined version of  “Different ‘Round Here”   with Luke Combs (also Riley’s current single at country radio).

There will also be a feature from Jelly Roll on “Copenhagen In A Cadillac.”

It’s been really cool to see his progression as an artist over the last several years, and it still feels like just yesterday I saw him play a show at Coyote Joe’s in Charlotte, North Carolina to a less-than sold out crowd.

It just goes to show the value of grit, hard work and determination, and I know I can’t wait to see him taking the stage at these bigger venues and hear all the new music he has coming very soon.

Event Details

Rolling Stone hailed his musical perspective as “Drinks-in-the-air Nineties Country at an Alabama vs. Auburn tailgate,” and that is just the type of energy fans have come to expect from Riley Green. Raised on the sounds of traditional Country, Bluegrass and Southern Gospel music, the Jacksonville, AL native learned the spirit of songwriting and performing at a young age while spending time with his grandfather, Bufford Green, who ran the Golden Saw Music Hall. That stage laid a foundation for the songs Riley would craft in the years to come and values learned from another generation. He fittingly shares co-writing credits posthumously alongside his two grandfathers on the 2xPLATINUM certified "I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” which People praised “might take him to a whole new stratosphere.” Evident on his debut album Different ‘Round Here (BMLG Records), featuring the PLATINUM-certified hit No. 1 “There Was This Girl,” MusicRow noted his “great Country vocal, honest presentation and true-to-life lyrics.” Riley’s Behind the Bar collection with GOLD-certified “If It Wasn’t For Trucks” and We Out Here: Live followed as the 2020 ACM Awards New Male Artist of the Year has “brought Country back to its roots: the blue collar sounds for the working man, by the working man” (Whiskey Riff). His collaboration with Thomas Rhett on "Half Of Me" earned Riley his second No. 1 at Country radio as he continues to deliver tracks directly to his loyal following as the world awaits the arrival his next single “Different ‘Round Here (Feat. Luke Combs)” on May 11. Named a CMT “Listen Up Artist,” Riley was also voted as one of the CRS 2020 New Faces and earned MusicRow’s Breakout Artist of the Year.

Country singer Riley Green discusses new album, being raised right, and an unreleased song ahead of Pittsburgh show

Mike Palm

Country singer Riley Green’s second album, “Ain’t My Last Rodeo,” came out in October, but an upcoming tour will be the first real test of those songs.

The tour’s second stop comes Feb. 9 at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh.

“I think that my perspective and favorite songs will change more when the tour starts,” Green said in a recent phone interview. “You can see what songs the fans really react to and what lines they react to. That’s kind of always been my gauge. So I’m excited about getting on the road for that reason.”

If radio play is any indication, the songs should go over well. His current single, “Different ’Round Here” featuring Luke Combs, sits at No. 4 on Billboard’s country airplay charts. The original version, minus Combs, came out in 2019 and was the title track on Green’s debut album, but it was never a single. The new version has given the song a second life.

Green said he was excited for the headline tour, after spending time last year opening for Combs on his stadium tour, including an April 29, 2023, show at Acrisure Stadium .

“There’s something about playing your own shows,” Green said. “You get a full set, everybody there, they know every word to every song. It’s kind of two different shows really. One of them you’re trying to get new fans, and maybe people have never heard you before, and the other one you’re really just playing for fans you have. So it’s exciting to be able to go out and play your own show.”

Besides Combs, Green teamed with another rising star in country music, Jelly Roll, who guests on his lighthearted track, “Copenhagen in a Cadillac.” Green added that he is hoping for a collaboration with Jon Pardi next.

Born in northeast Alabama, Green is staying true to his roots, with small-town values and family themes predominant in his songs. He said returning to his small hometown of Jacksonville, Ala., is a great way to disconnect and find inspiration.

A song like “Raised Up Right” — with lyrics like “When Momma used my full name, I knew she meant business. I learned to say ‘Yes sir’ from the first time that I didn’t” — might hit home with those who miss the way they were brought up by their parents.

”I can remember being one of the few of my friend group to really have to go to work with my dad in the summer,” Green said. “I don’t really think kids are learning a hard day’s work anymore at a young age, like my generation even did. … My parents were tough on me growing up, but I think that a lot of that was lessons that I got to learn through them and not necessarily having to learn the hard way.”

Although he’s 35, he’s still not likely to act up in front of his parents.

“I would have never said a cuss word in front of my mom. I still think I could probably get in trouble if I did,” he said. “It’s funny what people can get away with now, so tough parents was a blessing for me in disguise at the time.”

Despite an album that just came out in October, Green hasn’t been afraid to show off yet-to-be-released music. In early January, he posted a new song to Instagram. He said he’s still finalizing the song title, which fluctuates between “Couldn’t Fit That on a Sign” to “On a Sign” to “Jesus Saves.”

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Riley Green (@rileyduckman)

“It was a song that was inspired by … seeing people that look like they’re going through a hard time in their lives on the side of the road and just thinking about how nobody really knows the whole story,” Green said. “I thought it was kind of a positive message. I had the hook of that song kind of for a while and ended up writing it when I was at home during my breaks. So, once again, some inspiration from being back home.”

When it’s officially released, the song is sure to spark some emotions, much like his double-platinum, viral single from 2019, “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.” That song also caused a minor stir in the country music business. The original release features the lyric of “I wish country music still got played on country radio” but got replaced on the radio version with “I wish George Jones still got played on country radio.”

And what would Green choose if he was in charge of music selection?

“That’s funny because you know that lyric option, we didn’t change the original recording, and then we gave the option to play whatever the radio station wanted to play; they could play whatever they want,” Green said. “That line said the same thing to me. George Jones is what I’d be playing. So Merle Haggard and George Jones. I wrote the song kind of from the perspective of what I think my granddaddies would appreciate about the world today or what they would change and values they taught me, and I think that that’s what they would have said, so it’s definitely that more traditional country music that I grew up on.”

Green’s grandfathers played a role in shaping who he is today, with Buford Green sharing country music and Lendon Bonds inspiring a love of the outdoors. (Green’s Instagram handle is @rileyduckman and features a bevy of hunting pictures.) In October, Green launched the Buford Bonds Charitable Fund in memory of his grandfathers.

“It’s something that I’ve been wanting to do for a while. I only finally got it organized enough to be able to do it,” Green said. “It’s just something that initially was going to benefit veterans, and I wanted it to be something where we can take a portion of ticket sales from even this tour and tours going forward and just help any organization that’s kind of on our heart at the time. So it’s something that we have a lot of freedom with but also a lot of ability to use some of what we’re blessed with to be able to help others.”

Redoing a song for Riley Green ’s sophomore album that had just been on his debut was “a decision the fans kind of made,” Green says.

The latest version of “Different ‘Round Here,” from 2023 LP “Ain’t My Last Rodeo,” also features guest vocals from Luke Combs , a star country singer/songwriter contemporary of Green’s. The original was the title track of Green’s 2019 full-length bow.

Although it’s been streamed more than 63 million times on Spotify, the original “Different ‘Round Here,” a Southern rock-hued hometown anthem cowritten with Randy Montana and Jonathan Singleton, had never been a single.

Another song from Green’s LP, pedal-steel-spangled heartbreaker “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” 127 million streams and counting, blew up so big “Different ‘Round Here,” Green says, “kind of got pushed back.”

Still, fans gravitated to the title track of Green’s gold-selling debut, which also boasted the hit “There Was This Girl” and production by Dan Huff, a pop/rock session guitar ace for stars like Madonna, Whitesnake and Bob Seger turned A-list Nashville hit-maker for Faith Hill, Taylor Swift, etc.

Whenever Green played “Different ‘Round Here” at his shows, “fans reacted to it like it was a hit song,” Green says, “So I wanted to kind of shed new light on it and give it a second chance.

“And it worked out really great because I was going on a stadium tour with Luke Combs. I just texted him and asked if he wanted to be part of it and it worked out great – for both of us. It’s become a big song all over again and it’s been great to see and hear it get played on the radio.”

Things have been working out great in general for Green, who won Academy of Country Music’s New Male Artist of the Year Award in 2020, an accolade Combs took home the previous year.

Currently, he’s out on a headlining tour with country icon Tracey Lawrence and up-and-comer (and fellow Alabama product) Ella Langley . On Friday, the tour comes to Von Braun Center Propst Arena in Huntsville, Alabama. Complete tour dates at rileygreenmusic.com.

On a recent early afternoon, Green checked in for a phone interview from the porch of his lakeside place in his hometown, Jacksonville, Alabama. Edited excerpts below.

Riley, on this tour you’re headlining arenas and amphitheaters. What’s your spin on the arena country music show like?

Riley Green: Well, it’s finding a happy middle-ground between those tear-jerking emotional songs, that I tend to write a lot of, but also songs that make you want to hold your drink up in the air. And that’s kind of what we do with our show. There’s a lot of high-energy, tempo moments, -- songs like “There Was This Girl” and “Different ‘Round Here” -- and then there’s also some moments where I come out and sit on a barstool to play – songs like “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” or “Hell Of A Way To Go.”

So it’s a lot of that. It’s trying to find a way to keep that audience engaged – I think that’s with any genre. That’s what your job onstage is, to entertain the people who paid to come see you.

Who’s an artist outside of country music you listen to a lot?

I listed to a lot of different types of music. I grew up in the era of burnt CDs, you know, so we had all kind of different genres of music together in one spot, and I guess that’s what streaming is now.

I was a huge classic rock fan growing up. Being from Alabama, Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of those bands, and I think probably from a creative standpoint, listening to bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd or Marshall Tucker Band , stuff like that, musically you can get some ideas that were a little bit interesting to the country music world. Keep things from getting monotonous and sounding the same and the same three chords, you know.

There was a lot of musical creativity during that era, in the ‘70s and ‘80s, in classic rock that was probably more like country today.

Your recordings sound current and fresh, yet there’s also classic country instrumentation like fiddle and pedal steel. How do you find the right balance of roots and contemporary?

I think that’s the constant battle and probably the hardest part of my job I guess if you want to call it that, is finding a way to stay relevant and current to an ever-changing demographic and ever-changing musical tastes with a generation that’s … When I was playing in college bars at school, that was 10, 12 years ago.

So you still want to write about things that you know and kind of keep that kind of traditional sound in country music, the fiddle and the steel guitar and the dobro and the mandolin, but you also have to kind of change with the times a little bit too. So it’s a constant battle and a constant creative strain me and my producers have when we go in the studio.

You played quarterback at Jacksonville State University. If you were scouting Riley Green the football player back then, what’s his upside and what’s his downside?

Uh, I could always throw a football pretty well, so I’d say maybe my arm was my upside. But I think my biggest downside was trying to get my into a 7:45 [a.m.] class after staying out all night playing in the bars.

When you were coming up playing in the bars during college, what were a couple of the best gigs to play there? Was Brother’s [Bar] still a big place to play there then?

Brother’s was a good spot. There was a time period where everybody when through Brother’s. I mean, Hank Williams Jr., Marshall Tucker Band. Drivin’ N’ Cryin ’ used to play there all the time when I was in school. It had become slightly less popular when I was in school, but I definitely played there.

I played the Mexican restaurant in town, LocoMex, about twice a week for several years. Heroes, the Smoking Moose down in Anniston, Chestnut Station in Gadsden, I played all of those for a long time. I don’t know if they were the best gigs you could have but for me, I was pretty happy to have ‘em.

What was the moment that flipped the switch for you of wanting to write music and not just play music?

It was very gradual for me. I can remember my Grandaddy Buford was a huge music guy – loved Roy Acuff, Merle Haggard and George Jones – and when I’d go over to their house me and him would sit around and play an old guitar that he had.

I don’t think I ever had any dreams of being a musician. I was really into sports growing up, played three sports in high school.

And I think it [the desire to be a songwriter] came from me playing cover band gigs and just getting tired of playing the same covers every night, so I started trying to write songs that I thought would do well.

And that was where I got a passion for songwriting. I think that probably even today trumps my passion for performing. I love writing songs and it’s never felt like work to me – it’s something that’s exciting.

For songwriting, do you have a particular guitar that you’ve pulled the most of songs out of?

Yeah, I’m kind of all over the place and I’ve got guitars strung out any place I might be staying, whether it’s the bus or Nashville or the beach or Jacksonville or … There’s a 1967 J-35 [Gibson acoustic] that I bought at a pawn shop five or six years ago, something about that old guitar, even how it smells that kind of reminds me of the old Epiphone my granddaddy had, it seems like you get a little bit of inspiration from that.

In April, you’re hosting your inaugural “Duckman Jam” a two-day country music festival at legendary beachside Pensacola, Florida hotspot Flora-Bama. The Flora-Bama has appeared in your song lyrics, too. What’s it like to have your own festival there now?

Man, I played down there every day on the beach under a tent from 12 to four for three weeks, during every college in the Southeast’s spring break. And I think those three weeks took 10 years of my life. [Laughs]

But I just cut my teeth down there. I learned so much about trying to win a crowd over, especially a tourist type crowd where new people are coming in every night. You really have to find a way to make yourself stand out.

And I just love that place, love that area, grew up going down there when I was a kid. So to be able to go and do two nights on the beach down there and invite some of my favorite artists to come open up the show, it’s awesome, man. It feels like a hometown show for me even though it’s five-and-a-half hours away from where I grew up.

When you first started experiencing real success in music, what’s the first major purchase you made.

Well, I built a house around 2017, but that was right before I signed a record deal, so I think I was able to afford that just because I did most of the work myself. I was still doing construction until about 2018 when I signed a deal.

But I think the most memorable purchase for me was buying my dad a truck. Nothing I bought myself stands out like as being able to hand him the keys to a nice truck, you know? He always had an old beat-up truck, so it was cool to be able to take care of him.

Green’s 2024 Ain’t My Last Rodeo Tour kicks off at Appalachian Wireless Arena in Pikeville, Kentucky on February 22, and makes stops in 32 more cities, in support of his forthcoming album of the same title with the tour. He’ll stop in Knoxville, Salem, Houston, Southaven, San Diego, Phoenix, and more until wrapping at The Armory in Minneapolis on June 1.

Country music singer and songwriter will be joined by Tracy Lawrence across select dates and Ella Langley across all dates throughout the tour.

“Ain’t My Last Rodeo is inspired by what I know best: hard work, life outdoors and family and it’s going to be fun adding these new songs to our full set,” Green said. “I’ve been a fan of Tracy Lawrence since I was a kid so I’m looking forward to having him out with us and watching the fans singing along to all his hits. I also really love what Ella Langley is doing –it’s going to be a great time all around.”

Known with his small town-themed songs that celebrate slower way of life and time spent with family, Green has dropped several EPs and singles including “In a Truck Right Now,” “Behind the Bar,” “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” “In Love by Now,” and more, as well as a debut studio album Different ‘Round Here , which dropped in September 2019. Green’s wide recognition dates back to 2018, the year of his first single “There Was This Girl” was delivered.

Anyone else feel a bit hungover after last week’s Masters? Tough to have a signature event follow up the year’s first major championship, but here we are. The PGA Tour’s best players have made the short journey to Hilton Head, South Carolina, for the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick, who tied for 22nd at Augusta National, headlines the field and is joined by two-time Green Jacket winner and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Max Homa, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Will Zalatoris, Ludvig Aberg and Patrick Cantlay.

Scheffler has made just one start at Harbour Town, tying for 11th in 2023. It’s tough to see anyone beating this man at the moment, but we’ll try to find a few other guys worth betting on.

Picks to win

Shane lowry (35/1).

2024 Masters

Shane Lowry reacts to his putt on No. 11 during the third round of the 2024 Masters Tournament. (Photo: Rob Schumacher-USA TODAY Network)

Lowry didn’t have a great week at Augusta National, eventually tying for 43rd. However, in his three previous starts before the Masters, the Irishman finished T-19 (Players), 3rd (Arnold Palmer Invitational) and T-4 (Cognizant Classic).

A tie for 67th was a disappointing result for Lowry at last year’s RBC Heritage, but he still boasts a solid course history with three top-10 finishes since 2019 (four starts, two T-3s).

Around Harbour Town, driving the ball well is crucial. Lowry ranks first in fairways in regulation and fifth in good-drive percentage.

Note: Lowry opened at 60/1 and is already down to 35/1. People love him this week (which does scare me a little).

Denny McCarthy (45/1)

2024 Masters Tournament

McCarthy had a disappointing finish to his week at the Valero Texas Open, losing in a playoff to Akshay Bhatia . However, Harbour Town feels like a great rebound spot for the 31-year-old who is still looking for his first win on Tour.

He’s made the cut in three straight appearances at the RBC Heritage, highlighted by a T-13 performance in 2021 and a T-25 outing last year.

Cam Davis (50/1)

2024 Masters Tournament

Over his last four starts, Davis has finished T-18 (Arnold Palmer Invitational), T-21 (Texas Children’s Houston Open) and T-12 (Masters). He’s trending and heading to a golf course where he’s seen plenty of success.

At his RBC Heritage debut, the Aussie tied for 25th. A year later, in 2022, Davis tied for third. And in 2023, he tied for seventh.

Lucas Glover (55/1)

riley green tour 2023

Glover hasn’t finished inside the top 20 at the RBC Heritage since 2015, but I’m going with feel on this one.

After a disappointing start to his season, Glover has posted finishes of 11th (Valspar Championship), T-25 (Valero Texas Open) and T-20 (Masters) in his last three starts.

He’s ranked sixth in fairways in regulation, 24th in good-drive percentage and ninth in Strokes Gained: Approach.

If the putter and short game cooperate, I expect Glover to have a good week.

Taylor Moore (60/1)

2024 Masters

Taylor Moore reacts after holing out his shot on the second hole during the second round of the 2024 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. (Photo: Michael Madrid-USA TODAY Network)

Moore has been incredibly consistent in 2024. In 10 starts, he’s made the weekend 10 times, finished inside the top 25 four times and the top 10 once.

In his last three starts, Moore has finished T-12 (Valspar Championship), T-2 (Texas Children’s Houston Open) and T-20 (Masters).

In his lone appearance in the RBC Heritage (2023, signature event), Moore tied for 11th.
