While California boasts a number of wineries and farms that highlight the area's agricultural past, no attraction captures that history quite the way the Sikes Adobe Historic Park. Established in 1870, this attraction houses the oldest adobe home in California. It has been restored since its earlier years, but now offers visitors a chance to look back at the lifestyle that built up the California of today.

The ambitions of the Sikes Adobe Historic Park center around preservation and restoration. The park intends to serve as a cultural center that visitors and Escondido locals can visit as they like. Visitors can tour the adobe homes or bike down the local trails. There are also ample opportunities for tourists to ride through the park on horseback.

Hours at the Sikes Adobe Historic Park vary by the day. The platform doesn't advertise an admissions fee for its visitors but does highlight that, as it plans to grow, donations from visitors are welcomed. To learn more about this Escondido attraction, you can visit its website .

The Mexican-American War won America the state of California and much of the West Coast. Now, the San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park serves as a monument to the soldiers on both sides of the war who died in the area. For the history-buffs visiting the Escondido area, this attraction is a must-see.

The battle that this historic park commemorates is reported to be the only one fought on California soil. Do note, though, that the park only accepts cash or checks, so your credit card won't hold much weight here.

Here, you can hike across 11 miles of trails to see oak riparian, woodland, sage scrub, and other native growth. The Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve prides itself on its ability to protect these California staples and intends to ensure that they remain part of the local ecosystem for generations to come.

You'll also be able to tour the 5-acre Iris Sankey Magical Garden or any of the park's three ponds. There are plenty of spots available to picnickers or children looking to stretch their legs after a long drive. Hikers and cyclists will also be able to enjoy the long stretches of hiking trails that wind through the park.

Dixon Lake

For those visitors interesting in camping or boating within the Escondido area, there is Dixon Lake. Here, you can fish, pitch a tent, or explore the California wilderness at your leisure. At Dixon Lake, you can rent rods, motorboats, rowboats, or pedal boats for varying, by-hours costs. The park is open seven days a week but only charges entry fees on Saturdays and Sundays. You'll also be charged a $5 entry fee on holidays and on days that the park is hosting special events.

Non-camping lake visitors will be able to make their way into the park starting at 6 AM. The lake's closing hours will depend on the season. To learn more about this Escondido attraction, you can visit its website .

The San Dieguito River Park is open to the public as a conservation center and outdoor experience. The whole of the park was initially created to protect the natural area surrounding the San Dieguito River Valley. Nowadays, it is a green, open space and park system that connects California's natural waterways.

While you won't be able to white-water raft in this area, you can take bikes onto the park's trails. You can alternative guide horses down these well-worn paths or take them by foot.

The San Dieguito River Park is open from sunrise to sunset, though it may close due to inclement weather. The park does not list an admissions fee, though you may want to have your wallet on you to buy water or snacks for your walk down the trails. Tbr® inspection report:, san diego zoo safari park reviews.

Second time coming here with family. Came on a hazy Sunday that was a bit cold but it didn’t dampen our experience here at the SD safari park. Lots of good options and gift shops right upon entrance. Plenty of staff if you have any questions. I got a latte at the coffee stand they have in the beginning, decent and quick service. The exhibits are great ranging from the nocturnal duck billed platypus, young kangaroos, lions, jungle bats, wild cats, tons of birds and a huge African animal enclosure. The team ride around said enclosure is always great with lots of tips about the species they have on display. First time we came and we did the big zip line experience. Totally worth it. The views of the park from up there are incredible.
I watched The Zoo: San Diego for several months and was so excited to come to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. This place is massive and absolutely beautiful. This is such a unique experience. The free ride through the African plains gives you a front row seat to the animals that coexist in the plains. Attractions were reasonably priced. There are so many food and drink options throughout the facility. You will easily spend an entire day enjoying this beautiful zoo. I can't wait to come back!
This safari park is very nice. Love seeing the open spaces for the animals as opposed to small living quarters. This park is clean and spacious. We purchased tickets online and walked right in. Love riding the tram and seeing the rhinos and giraffes.

CALIFORNIA CENTER FOR THE ARTS REVIEWS

I was shocked to find this large in this elegant huge entertainment facility in Escondido I didn't know the city house such a magnificent humongous Arts Complex that was just fantastic in every way. We went here to see The Nutcracker it was my first visit here and it was just fabulous. I loved every part of it I love the architecture the little nooks and crannies where you can grab a hot cocoa the little nooks and crannies where they would have red carpets and decorations Galore. It was really wonderful to come here. We took some great photos of the orchestra pit and different areas at this event but the app is not allowing me to get to my phone deep enough to pull those pictures so I'm sorry I can't put pictures of what we saw maybe I'll figure it out later but this was just a magnificent theater with several levels of seating and balconies just gorgeous..
I experienced an amazing display of Mexican culture at the annual Folklorico festival. The weekend was full of 3 hour shows with groups of dancers of all ages from various parts of Mexico. The sound in the theater was great. The seating allowed for great views of the stage. I would definitely visit this theater for other types of performances.
We went to the Johnny Cash tribute It was amazing! The venue was beautiful, plenty of air circulation, the sound was amazing. Overall very nice. I love the Escondido performing arts center. I grew up in Escondido.

SAN DIEGO CHILDREN'S DISCOVERY MUSEUM REVIEWS

This place is awesome! First time here with my 3 year old daughter and it was a blast. Very manageable size. Great indoor and very relaxing outdoor play area with plenty of shade and picnic eating areas. I enjoy the Children's museum in downtown San Diego, but that can be a little overwhelming for little kids. I am very pleasantly surprised with this great little museum. Returned her with my 7 year old son. He really enjoyed the museum, especially the outside area. I find this museum very pleasant. It’s across the street from a recently renovated playground, easy to make a day out of the whole area. We actually saw a performance at the Escondido Performing arts center, also across the street, then walked from there to the museum and back to the park.
Found this gem while on vacation while our toddler was going stir crazy. By the time we left it was getting very busy and a little cramped, but getting there at opening gave us a good two hours of play (both inside and out) that our daughter absolutely loved (as soon as you thought you saw everything, you found another little area that had more to do). As a three year old, her one complaint was that she was too big for the toddler area and thus couldn't go use the slide in that gated off area. She definitely has been begging to go back, though!
So many interactive projects. My grandson had a wonderful day here. Many activities help your child learn new things while playing. Best way to learn.
