🚌 Public Transport

🚌 city centre bus service (sheffield connect), 🚴 cycling 🚶‍♀️ walking 👩‍🦼 mobility support, 🅿️ car parking ⛅ clean air zone, public transport - travelling to the city centre  🚌.

Choosing to use the bus, tram or train can be a quick and convenient way to get into the city centre. Plan ahead and use the  Travel South Yorkshire  website to find the right service and ticket for you.

Planning ahead also means there may be a ‘better’ time to undertake your journey using public transport, particularly if you would like to travel at a quieter time. Local bus operators, such as First and Stagecoach , have capacity checkers on their apps so you can track where your bus is and see how many seats are available on your next service.

If you are planning on using your car to visit the city centre, have you considered incorporating public transport as part of your journey?

There are eight Park and Ride sites outside Sheffield city centre that offer a convenient way to combine using your car and public transport. And, before you set off on your journey, why not see how much your journey will cost you using this handy little fuel price calculator .

If your journey means that you will use more than one bus operator, or you will also use Supertram or even the train, you may want to have a look at multi-operator tickets that are provided by TravelMaster . Options include tickets for 1 day, 7 day and 28 day travel and there is also a 'Flexi-5' ticket which enables a holder to travel on five separate days in any one month.

Fare information

  • Adult fares for one-way journeys by bus are capped to a maximum £2 . The £2 fare cap has been in place since 1 November 2022,
  • Using Supertram? There's a 10% discount on some tram-only fares until 30 June 2024. The discount applies to 1, 5, 7 and 28-day tickets, purchased onboard the tram or via the new  Travel South Yorkshire app .
  • Further information on tickets options can be found on the  Travel South Yorkshire website .

Travelling by train or coach?

Trainline is Europe’s leading train and coach app.

Sheffield city centre's Clean Air Zone and changes to traffic permissions along Arundel Gate  ⛅

📖  Information correct at time of publication.

Clean Air Zone (CAZ)

At the end of February 2023, Sheffield City Council introduced a 'class C chargeable zone' for the most polluting heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), light goods vehicles (LGVs), vans, buses, coaches and taxis that drive within the inner ring road and city centre .

Private cars and motorbikes are not subject to any charge.

Further information on the Clean Air Zone is available from the Sheffield City Council website . You can also use this handy vehicle checker to see if your vehicle would be charged for entering the CAZ.

Arundel Gate

A bus gate was introduced on Arundel Gate in March 2023, aiming to reduce the number of vehicles travelling along this stretch of road. The bus gate applies northbound only and restricts traffic from travelling beyond the Novotel Hotel access point, by the Millennium Gallery, when coming from the Furnival Gate direction. Only buses, taxis and other authorised vehicles are able to pass through the bus gate on Arundel Gate without incurring a penalty.
