Hi, We have yet to purchase a motorhome and are currently looking around at the different makes/models. We would like a coachbuilt , 6 berth fixed rear double bed with a garage and have got our list down to 3; Burstner Levanto A 640 G Knaus Sport Traveller 700DG Dethleffs Advantage A 6971 DB Does anyone own a Sport Traveller or have any advice? Regards, Claire & Matt

No knowledge of the Sport Traveller but we bought a Sun TI from Lowdhams, Huddersfield last year and have been more than happy with it so far. The base vehicle is a Renault Master which I think is also on the Sport and it is a great drive as you will no doubt have read in various reviews. This is our 1st MH so we have nothing to compare it with but the Knaus build quality seems VG and apart from a couple of minor issues which the dealer quickly sorted it has been great. Brian

knaus for sale Hi, i have put my motorhome on the website since having been very recently widowed,, it is a Sun ti as new, please look at it if thats what you are looking for, it may not have enough berths for you though, true mileage of 8,200km! No pets very much cared for, lots of extras olav

olav I am sorry to hear of your loss

We have the Sport Traveller 605DKG (6 berth but bunks at the back) and we love it. You would not be disappointed with the quality of the fittings and the thought that has been put into the design. Lots of sensible storage, room to get around even though there are 5 of us - we're very pleased

Hello Claire & Matt We had an 02 Knaus 708g Traveller, very well built vans. Up there with all the top German built mh's.

Hi I have just picked up our Sport Traveller 700DG from Joeressens in Germany and can only echo (with all the enthusiasm of the first flushes of van worship) the quality, thoughtful design, great drive and attention to detail of it. It is our first motorhome and for us the layout is perfect (we have three kids - 5, 3 and 1). I would thoroughly recommend both the model and dealer.

mrcanny - trust you will enjoy the Knaus for a long time

mrcanny so glad you like your new Knaus - we have had our Knaus SunLiner 658LG for 11 weeks - bought from Lowdhams Nottingham. Full marks to Knaus and Lowdhams ( Especially Chris Gage, Mick and Paul in the service centre for all their help!) It has rained for 10 of the last 11 weeks and the van has been superb - no leaks and the layout makes it easy for 2 people to live in it at close quarters! The build quality is superb! We've done about 2,000 miles so far and it's great to drive. Hopefully we'll meet you on our travels - the only Knaus we've seen so far was a Swiss registered one in The New Forest. Marie and Rex

Thanks Marie & Rex. My feelings echo yours. We have just come back from Spain (we had planned to be gone for good but my wife had to return for a hospital check up so we all came back) and the van was superb throughout the whole trip. The kids had a ball and loved being in the van whether travelling or not. I'm delighted with the purchase and will now take the opportunity to read through all the manuals and find out the stuff I didn't get chance to before we left. The build quality is superb but we did have one problem whilst in Northern Spain. The Heki rooflight started leaking water. Luckily we were very close to a Knaus dealer who took the whole thing off to find the factory had not fitted sealant on a small part of the outer, leaving a gap through which water could enter. The dealer was fantastic, took everything apart, resealed it and said they would sort it out with Knaus in Germany. They were originally going to charge me and ask me to claim it back from the German dealer I bought from but with a bit of Spanish and some praise for the Basque country, I managed to get away without having to pay. Overall, a fabulous trip and the pre-purchase research was all worth it as our van is the ideal layout for us and three little 'uns. A big thanks to everyone on MHF as I wouldn't have had nearly enough info to make an informed choice without you.

2007 Knaus Sport Traveller 600 DKG - rear three-quarters view

Published: June 24, 2011

Check out Practical Motorhome's review of the Knaus Sport Traveller 600 DKG

As environmental issues and the desire to spend more time with children pressure us, such a motorhome as this provides welcome relief, offering freedom, control and that close-to-nature feel which all motorcaravanners know and love so well. This particular model is also elegant enough to fit into the iPod lifestyle without compromise, being practical and durable enough to absorb childish blows.

Neat, easy stowage of the ladder It has a deep garage with internal and external access The vertical storage cupboard with pull-out rack The large amount of cupboard space

The gap between the lower bunk and wall (items fall into the garage) The lack of living space

The Sport Traveller is not a big ‘van, and with its permanent bunks there is little room to dance around the living area. This is a ‘van for outdoor types. You would certainly not want to have all six berths occupied on a wet holiday – there just wouldn’t be enough room. Even so, in the showery autumn weather our family testers had enough space for games, meals and reading – enough simple pleasures to keep them happy. We chose to leave the floors bare – they are attractive enough with their blond wood finish, and we didn’t have to worry about ‘wellying’ the carpet with mud.

The kitchen area is well conceived, attractive and usable, with easy access to overhead and vertical cupboards, and to the appliances, sink, work surface and table. All that the cook needs is within easy reach. The new-style three-burner hob is tucked behind a reasonably sized work surface. The deep under-sink drawer
is extremely useful and the capacious, sliding, floor-to-ceiling food cupboard is simply superb
– better than in some houses.

The washroom is simple and functional, with a powerful shower and ample storage space. The children were
able to make use of the facilities without adult assistance (thankfully). It’s not a huge area, but two large mirrors increase the illusion of space. The fixtures and fittings also look classy and feel robust – which is useful when you’re travelling with children.

The layout tested here has fixed bunks at the rear, one double bed over the cab and another in the living area.
The crucial question with this format is: are fixed bunks worth it, considering the loss of day-space? For our young family of testers, the answer is ‘yes’, for they offer four advantages. First, they provide each child with an element of privacy. Kids can be quite territorial, and they clearly enjoyed having permanent access to their own space, their own light switch, and their own storage area. Second, each bunk has a ‘fun factor’. The upper one has its own stowable ladder (endless fun), and the lower one has its
own wooden door (multiple uses, some of them not
life-threatening). Third, you don’t have to make and break the beds in the evenings and mornings
– a blessed time saver. Fourth, permanence means quality materials. Also, the bunks are sufficiently large and comfortable enough for an adult to be able to get a good night’s sleep. All in all, they were a resounding success. The overcab double bed has a neat ladder-storage system: it’s safe and quick. The bed is very comfortable although two autumn thunderstorms in one night vividly demonstrated how close the rain gets to your face before striking the overcab unit. The other double bed, although it remained unused, was easy enough to make up. This ‘van could easily accommodate six sleeping adults, though how they would make do during waking hours is another question. They would have to be very well acquainted. Overall, the Sport Traveller was a very comfortable sleeping unit. And the blown-air heating system takes the temperature in the ‘van from chilly to toasty, in minutes.

Outside, access to the Thetford cassette, gas and fresh/grey water are as easy as one could wish, and the locker doors have solid locks and fittings. Inside, there is plenty of cupboard space throughout, with multiple lockers and a deep wardrobe. The upper bunk has its own lockers, though the lower one has none, which is a shame. The deep storage pit below the lower bunk is accessible from within and without. A problem with the lower bunk, though, is that toys and other items can easily slip between bed and wall into the cavern below (if only Spider Man toys really could scale walls…) This area is accessible via an external door, or by raising the bunk but some care must be taken to pack carefully, with a view to which items will be accessed by which route, because the far corner is a long way from the exterior door.
We’d be tempted to use a range of cheap plastic storage boxes to partition some of this unit. Shelving units below the overhead lockers in the main living area were useful for storing items such as iPod docks and DVD players, which could be plugged into the mains sockets below the shelf and used either at the table or in the overcab area. The shelves above the door, and the top of the overhead cupboards, offer extra shelving space. The nearest overhead locker top and shelf can also be used by sleepers in the overcab for items such as clocks, drinks and books.

Towbar for Fiat Ducato Knaus Sport Traveller 1994-2006

Towbars for Fiat Ducato Knaus Sport Traveller Bj. 1994-2006 motorhomes

Welcome to X-CAMPING , your specialist in retrofitting towbars for motorhomes. In this category you will find towbars, electrical kits and even frame extensions for the Fiat Ducato Knaus Sport Traveller Bj. 1994-2006 motorhomes, whether it’s a coachbuilt or C-Class with overcab bed.

Fixed and detachable towbars

Our range includes various trailer hitches and electrics for the Fiat Ducato Knaus Sport Traveller Bj. 1994-2006 motorhome. Due to the specific design of these motorhomes as C-class with or without overcab bed and a long overhang with a deep rear garage, the towbars for the Fiat Ducato Knaus Sport Traveller Bj. 1994-2006 should be adjustable . We offer a wide range of height, width and length adjustable towbars with fixed and detachable towballs .

  • With lateral swanneck towballs.
  • With front flange towballs attached with two or four bolts.
  • Vertically detachable systems with anti-theft device.
  • Horizontally removable towballs with anti-theft device.
  • Detachable towballs with lever system (without anti-theft device).

The detachable towball systems with anti-theft protection are produced by renowned manufacturers such as ACS Towbar Systems , a member of the Brink Group, a leading supplier of towbars in Europe. All our products come from renowned European manufacturers, are TÜV-tested and approved for road use.

Fiat Ducato with load-bearing frame

Before fitting a towbar to your Fiat Ducato it is important to check that the chassis is sufficiently extended and strong. On some cars with the Knaus Sport Traveller body, the chassis of the base car is extended and prepared for the installation of a towbar. This is known as a load-bearing frame.

Read our blog to find out how to check if a frame extension is load-bearing. For vehicles that already have a load-bearing frame extension, the cost of fitting a towbar is lower as no additional extension is required.

Fiat Ducato without a load-bearing frame

If your Fiat Ducato does not have a load-bearing frame extension, you must first fit a chassis extension in order to be able to fit a towbar later. The frame extension is the base for the towbar and rear garage. It consists of frame adapters, extension profiles and reinforcement kits. The frame adapters are fitted to the original Fiat Ducato chassis and the extension profiles are screwed onto the adapters .

Our frame adapters are designed in the same way for all Fiat Ducato models so that the existing mounting points on the vehicle frame can be used and no modifications to the original frame are required. The frame extension profiles are adapted to the length of the overhang or rear garage.

X-CAMPING offers frame extensions in different lengths from 75 cm to 200 cm. You can find out which length you need for your vehicle and how to determine this in our blog .

Our frame extension for the Fiat Ducato Knaus Sport Traveller Bj. 1994-2006 can be used universally and is compatible with various trailer hitches from other manufacturers (SMV-Metall, Linnepe, AL-KO, SAWIKO, XIMPLIO). Please note that a frame extension can also be adjusted in height and width. For an example of the adjustment possibilities of a frame extension from XIMPLIO, click here.

Electric kits for towbars

In addition to towbars, we also offer suitable electrics for your motorhome . Our vehicle-specific and universal cable sets are available in 7-pin and 13-pin versions. The vehicle-specific electrics are specially designed for the Fiat Ducato Knaus Sport Traveller Bj. 1994-2006 motorhome . Please note that due to the overall length of motorhomes, extra-long cable sets of up to 9 metres in length are often required.

Knaus Sport & Fun 2016

knaus sport traveller 2001

We reckon the Knaus Sport & Fun will appeal mostly to sporty types who love a barbecue!

Published: June 16, 2016

The Knaus Sport & Fun is a quirky and clever tourer for the young, active, outdoor crowd – but will other caravanners like it, too?

If there’s a van that is designed to draw in the younger user, then the Knaus Sport & Fun is it. The styling, the storage, the social space and the minimal cooking facilities with large fridge all point to sociable, more adventurous caravanners who love outdoor activities.

We wonder whether the Knaus would also suit the less-mobile caravanner. There’s an option to increase the chassis weight to 1700kg and that huge garage will take a mobility scooter.

With a little adaptation, the back door would be wide enough for a wheelchair ; remove the table and the interior would be wide enough, too. The high bed might be an issue, but a little design nous would find a way around it.

Natural light is an issue, which the optional rooflight can improve. If the next version of the Sport & Fun has glazed doors, the problem will be solved.

The lack of an oven will be a problem for some, but you could lose a kitchen locker in favour of a microwave. Still, we reckon this is a breakfast van; all other cooking will be on the barbecue.

Room for bikes and surfboards Eyecatching design Stylish and practical lounge Surprisingly good bed sizes Could be adapted for wheelchair access

Small washroom Make-up bed cushion slides No oven

If you’re looking for a head-turner on site, you could do worse than the Knaus Sport & Fun, just as long as you can live up to the credentials of its target market: people of action with a youthful outlook on life. It may be hard to believe, because the model is uncommon in the UK, but this brightly coloured sporty caravan has been around for nearly 20 years.

Its raison d’être is that it has a vast amount of storage for carrying bicycles, surfboards and so on – therefore, sport and fun. A quick search of online ads reveals that some, with reinforced floors and roofs and uprated payloads, have been used to carry small motorbikes.

“In a caravan?” you ask incredulously. “How?” At the back of the van is a 920cm-wide door with a low sill, over which a ’bike can be lifted, and the van’s nose functions as a garage, accessible from either side. Plus there is the option of increasing the MTPLM to 1700kg.

The latest incarnation is a little longer – around 0.5m (20in) – than its 1997 three-berth predecessor, and the interior styling is much more fluid. Both versions come from the same designer, Manfred Lang.

The ethos hasn’t changed though; it’s all about youthful style: white, dimpled aluminium sidewalls are decorated with swooping, bright blue-and-green graphics bearing the legend, ‘Sport & Fun’. Light clusters are set in blue moulded bumpers at the front and back, and blue mudguards frame the wheels. The front and back panels are smooth metal sheeting.

On the inside, the curved furniture opens up the interior, making it feel spacious.

We used the Sport & Fun on a recent trip to Brittany, towing it behind a Škoda Yeti Outdoor  2.0 TDI. The recommended 85% compatibility figure was more in tune with the Sport & Fun’s MiRO weight, which wasn’t a problem because we weren’t carrying any heavy gear.

The drive was stable and smooth on straight roads, thanks to the Sport & Fun’s aerodynamic shape and the AKS stabiliser, but the Škoda needed a little more oomph to eliminate the slight tugging from the S&F on hills and corners. You will need a bigger tow car than our Škoda, especially if you cart bulky sports equipment.

At the back of the van is a 920cm-wide door with a low sill, over which a small motorbike can be lifted, and the van’s nose functions as a garage

Pitching & Setting-up

Our test model came with the Plus Package, which includes heavy-duty steadies; in either case, the front ones are easily accessed, but you’ll have to bend down to find those at the back. The steady winder has a dedicated fitting in the gas locker, which is on the offside wall in the nose of the van. The offside is also home to the toilet cassette hatch, access to the garage and the two-piece, unglazed entrance door, which has an awning light above it and a waste bin on the inside.

The van is equipped with a 45-litre fresh-water tank; its water inlet is on the nearside. Next to it is a socket for an electric pump, so the tank can be filled from a 40-litre Aquaroll. It’s a thoughtful addition that will be even more useful if you add the optional shower. Also on the nearside is the electric hook-up point and a large door to the garage space.

At the front is the long A-frame, two small grabhandles and a single vertical window towards the nearside. At the back of the van is a second, large entrance door and an aluminium ladder that leads to the roof rails, which will take up to 75kg of weight.

That door at the back of the van is ideal for loading large items and, if you’re touring somewhere warm, you can throw it open for wonderful views. Three quarters of the door is covered in fabric, but we can’t understand why it isn’t glazed to bring much-needed light into the rear of the van. It also isn’t that easy to open from inside. You must pull a lever at the top of the door and at the bottom of the door at the same time, and you need long arms to do it. It is much easier from outside. Fabric loops on the inside are for pulling it closed.

The simple rocker-switch control panel, just inside the side entrance, activates the water pump and mains lighting, and indicates the water and battery levels. Two large switches are inside the door, one for the awning light, the other for the single mains fixture.

Step inside to a very different layout from the norm. Curves are the order of the day here. At the front of the van, in the nose, is a fixed double bed, set high – it’s above the garage – and curved at the door end to join the L-shaped sofa’s base. In front of that is a long, tapering table. It creates a curved walkway into the centre of the van and, with no hard corners to manoeuvre around, a feeling of space.

Set in the base of the sofa are two cubbyholes for keys, phones and the like. If you don’t have springs in your feet, you can use them to step up onto the bed.

The squab cushions are upholstered in peacock-blue, while the seat backs have a zigzag in the same blue, yellow and brown. The cushions aren’t particularly thick but they’re fine for flopping onto after a hard morning’s kite-surfing. We used it for relaxing with a book and could have invited another two people to join us to dine; the long L-shape easily seats four, and a fifth can be accommodated on a wooden storage box that doubles as a seat, with a firm, square cushion on top; it is stowed under the fridge. The long, not-quite-rectangular table stands on one leg and its height can be altered to use for dining, as a coffee table or as a base for a double bed in the lounge.

A single large rooflight illuminates this area by day, and it saves the van from being gloomy – the two sidewall windows are small and the front window is narrow; glazing in both doors would have been a huge help here. An overhead mains light and two swivelling spotlights illuminate the area at night. Rather than being fixed, the spots are attached to a horizontal track under the roof locker and a vertical track beside the bed and can be slid along into the position that best suits you. Cleverly, the spots can be detached and clipped onto whichever track you wish.

The two peacock-blue-coloured shelved roof lockers curve upwards towards the ceiling, so the lower shelf is shallower than the upper one.

The Truma blown-air heater under the wardrobe is gas-only, though electric back-up is an option – as is a heated floor!

The kitchen is narrow nearest the side entrance door and curves towards the back of the van. Its wider end abuts a tall, narrow, shelved cupboard that separates it from the washroom.

Kitchen kit comprises a longitudinal, three-burner gas hob with a glass lid towards the back of the worktop, a circular sink and, across the gangway, a tall slim fridge with a removable freezer compartment and bottle storage in the base.

There is no oven, grill or microwave and none is offered on the options list; because of the curved design of the lockers, there is no obvious space to fit them. The circular stainless-steel sink is perfectly adequate, and boasts a domestic-style mixer tap. However, there is no space for a draining board, so you’ll have to dry as you wash.

Beneath the sink is a cutlery drawer, which is also where the gas inlet controls are located. Below this drawer is a second one for pans and, under that, locker space. A large two-door cupboard below the hob offers plenty of space for groceries and crockery on its shelves.

Above the hob are three sloping, shelved roof lockers. The middle one has three hinges, while those on either side have two each; all are very robust. Beneath the wider middle locker is the window and, on either side, are two open bins rather than shelves, which could be used for vegetables.

A covered socket is fitted to the ceiling of the right-hand bin. Under both are LED lights that provide the only illumination in the area. Worktop space in front of the hob is quite narrow.

Behind a large door on the rear offside is the washroom. It’s large because the washroom is very shallow; everything is set in a line. It has an electric-flush, swivel toilet, a basin and a vanity unit, with a mirror-clad corner cupboard above and a small, shallow cupboard below. Under the shelf is a covered mains socket to plug in a shaver or hair dryer, and above the mirror are two LED lights. There is a toilet-roll holder but no towel hook, which could easily have been accommodated on the vast door, as could a full-length mirror.

Above the toilet is a frosted window. There is no shower, but a shower ‘cabin’ can be optioned. A drawer below the washroom can be fitted out as a shower tray.

The fixed bed is, unusually, front of the van, but it works. It’s slightly tapered at the foot to take in the curve that leads into the van, but it’s a good size – 6ft 4in x 4ft 8in at the head, narrowing to 4ft 1in.

Because it is above the garage, the bed is as high as the top of the sofa’s backrests; you will either have to step on the sofa base, where the cubbyholes are, or on the sofa to climb in. However, it is supremely comfortable and has its own sliding reading light, on the vertical track; there’s just the one, but you could steal a spot from the lounge and set it higher for the further occupant. The removable headboard sits in front of the larger garage door; one of our testers complained of a draught coming from the door.

A small triangular shelf behind the curve in the sofa and next to the bed is ideal for resting a cuppa or a book. Another shelf is higher up, to the side of the roof locker, and has a mains socket.

The person sleeping towards the front end of the van is stuck with the acute angle of the ceiling and nowhere to put a book or glass of water.

The sofa can be made up into a narrow double – 6ft 3in x 4ft, tapering to 3ft 3in – by lowering the table and bringing an extra cushion into play. It’s not ideal, because the cushion slides around on the table; Velcro or studs sewn in place would stop this. The sofa backs can be stored in the garage.

Storage is where the Knaus Sport & Fun really excels. We’ve already discussed the variety of places to stow kit in the kitchen, which is as much down to the lack of oven or grill as anything. The tall cupboard is divided into two sections; the top one is smaller and houses a pull-out TV bracket, two mains sockets and an aerial point. In the lower section are three shelves and plenty of space for groceries or anything else.

For outdoor types, the large garage is ample for bikes, fishing tackle, a kayak or skis; for those who prefer to relax, the space works just as well for picnic chairs and table, a portable barbecue and an awning. Beef up the chassis weight and option the lashing eyes and you can take a motorbike or mobility scooter.

To accommodate taller items, lift the bed on its hinges; this is also the way to access the area from inside, which is made easier by removing the headboard. Otherwise, it fouls the sloping ceiling and interferes with the hammock shelf above. Replacing the headboard can be fiddly; it is easier to put it back in place from outside.

The wardrobe is large with plenty of hanging space and room for a suitcase. That sloping front has put paid to any overhead lockers around the fixed bed. Instead there is a removable storage hammock that runs the width of the van and is in the same material as the sofa’s backrests. It’s a great solution for light items, but it may get in the way if you want to sit up while reading in bed.

The water tank and the electrics take up much of the space under the long section of the sofa, but there is storage in the short leg beside the bed. We like the ingenuity of the storage cube that can be pulled out to serve as a stool, rather than just using the space as a cupboard.

The covered back door – even the opening devices are covered – has a handy storage pocket and a place for magazines and umbrellas. Still, a bit of glazing would have made all the difference at the rear.

Kuznetski Most area in Moscow

Kuznetski Most is a small area between Tverskaya street, Kremlin, and Kitai Gorod (Lubyanka) and it's a downtown of Moscow. First of all, 'Kuznya' is a great place to walk: it is a real Moscow area, not a postcard at all, hectic busy streets neighbour tranquil lanes and courtyards with traditional architecture. There are also many very nice cafes, restaurants, clubs, and shops. If you want a cool place to meet people, go for a walk and to get the real feeling of the city, check out this area.

Kuznetsky Most area - photo by Sergey Rodovichenkov @FlickR

Long time ago there were only half-broken low wooden houses in Kuznetski Most area, and it was the place where poor blacksmithes lived. Blacksmith is 'Kuznets' in Russia, hence the name. In the beginning of the street (on top) there was a bridge over a small river, later this river was put underground, so there's no bridge anymore. About 200 years ago there was a rich Moscovitan noble buying this area. He immediately put away all the blacksmiths' houses and started to build a fancy new district. Just in few years he built up beautiful houses, with impressive ornaments, rich decoration, pools in the courtyards. Also, he opened some French boutiques in the area. That's when Kuznetski Most started to become fashionable. In a short time all the elite moved to this  area, and those who wasn't so fast were coming here to make some shopping and to sit in many of the restaurants and cafes around.  In the 20th century, when the communist times arrived, most of the buildings were given to government offices, some were given to soviet shops. The area became boring, the architecture was slowly deteriorating , but nobody seemed to care. In the beginning of the 90s  the area was revived again: the buildings were  restored , there was many new cafes being opened, boutiques, and shops. One important landmark of Kuznetsky Most is that it's home to FSB (Federal Security Bureau - former KGB) offices, and if you walk along Kuznetsky Most street you can get to the FSB reception, which is open 24 hours (in case you have something to report).

Moscow City is a multifunctional complex in the west of Moscow, which has come to represent the booming business of Russia’s capital. Its skyscrapers enrich Moscow’s skyline, contrasting the medieval cupolas and Stalinist high-rises. Visitors to Moscow City can enjoy entertainment high in the sky, as the complex is home not just to offices, but to restaurants, cinemas, viewing platforms, and museums.

History of Moscow City

Moscow City was first conceived in 1991 by honoured Soviet architect Boris Tkhor, who proposed to construct a business center in Moscow. It would be complete with gleaming skyscrapers rivalling those of New York and London, to reflect the new life and growing ambitions of post-Soviet Russia.

The chosen site was a stone quarry and disused industrial zone in western Moscow, in between the Third Ring Road and Moskva River. Initially, the territory was divided into 20 sections arranged in a horseshoe shape around a central zone. The skyscrapers would increase in height as they spiralled around the central section, with shorter structures built on the waterfront to give the taller buildings behind a view of the river.

Architect Gennady Sirota, who contributed to iconic projects such as the Olympic Sports Complex on Prospekt Mira, was selected as the chief architect, and many other world-famous architects were attracted to Moscow to realise their visions in Moscow City.

What can you see and do at Moscow City?

Where Moscow’s cityscape was once dominated by Stalin’s Seven Sisters skyscrapers , this is no more. Moscow City is home to eight of Russia’s ten tallest buildings, six of which exceed 300 metres in height. More buildings are still under construction there today, including the One Tower (which will be Europe’s second-tallest building). Once completed, Moscow City will comprise more than 20 innovative structures.

Each of Moscow City’s skyscrapers was designed by its own architect, lending the cluster of skyscrapers a unique appearance. Aside from being a site of architectural wonder, Moscow City is a place for leisure and entertainment with over 100 cafes and restaurants, exhibition spaces, cinemas, viewing platforms, and more.

Federation Tower

  • East Tower: 374m, 97 floors; West Tower: 243m, 63 floors
  • Completed in 2017
  • Architects: Sergey Tchoban and Peter Schweger

The East Federation Tower is the tallest building in Moscow, and the second-tallest building in Europe after the Lakhta Centre in St Petersburg. Visitors can enjoy a luxurious meal of seafood, truffles or steak at restaurant ‘Sixty’ on the 62nd floor of the West Tower, or visit Europe’s highest observation deck, ‘Panorama 360’, on the 89th floor of the East Tower.

Did you know? The ice cream and chocolate shop on the 360 observation deck are the highest in the world!

  • South Tower: 354m, 85 floors; North Tower: 254m, 49 floors
  • Completed in 2015
  • Architect: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP

The South OKO Tower is the third-tallest building in Russia and Europe. Here, you can visit ‘Ruski’ to dine on hearty Russian cuisine cooked on a real Russian stove, and have a drink in the ice bar. Alternatively, visit restaurant, nightclub and performance space ‘Birds’; the restaurant is the highest in Europe, situated on the 86th floor roof terrace alongside an observation deck. The OKO Towers are also home to karaoke club ‘City Voice’.

Did you know? Underneath OKO Towers is the largest underground parking in Europe, with 16 levels and 3,400 parking spaces.

Mercury Tower

  • 339m tall, 75 floors
  • Architects : Mikhail Posokhin, Frank Williams, Gennady Sirota

Another multifunctional skyscraper, which was designed as the first truly ‘green’ building in Moscow. The Mercury Tower has a distinct geometric shape and copper-coloured glazing, and was the tallest building in Europe upon completion. Visit ‘More i myaso’ (Sea and meat) on the first floor of the tower to enjoy European and Mediterranean cuisine whilst surrounded by greenery. On the 2nd and 40th floors a modern art gallery, the ‘ILONA-K artspace’, has just opened.

City of Capitals

  • Moscow Tower: 302m, 76 floors; St Petersburg Tower: 257m, 65 floors
  • Completed in 2009
  • Architect: Bureau NBBJ

The unique geometric design of the City of Capitals towers resembles stacks of rotating blocks, and is rooted in Constructivism of the early Soviet period (many Soviet Constructivist buildings can be found in Moscow). Visitors to the Moscow Tower can enjoy a range of cuisines – traditional Italian dishes on the summer terrace of ‘Tutto Bene’, Panasian cuisine in the tropical luxury of the ‘Bamboo Bar’ on the 1st floor’, and poke or smoothie bowls at ‘Soul in the Bowl’ cafe on the 80th floor.

Tower on the Embankment

  • Tower A: 84m; Tower B:127m; Tower C: 268m, 61 floors
  • Completed in 2007
  • Architects: Vehbi Inan and Olcay Erturk

After completion, the Tower on the Embankment was the tallest building in Europe, and is now the 13th tallest. It houses the headquarters of several large Russian and international  companies, including IBM and KPMG. There are two cafes located on the 1st floor of Tower C – self-service café ‘Obed Bufet’ (Lunch Buffet) and Bakery Chain ‘Khleb Nasushchny’ (Daily Bread).

Evolution Tower

  • 255m tall, 54 floors
  • Architects: Philip Nikandrov and RMJM Scotland Ltd

Evolution is Moscow City’s most recognisable tower, and the 11th tallest building in Russia. Its façade is a true architectural marvel, comprising continuous strips of curved glazing spiralling high into  the sky. According to the architect, Philip Nikandrov, the spiral shape of the tower honours centuries of architectural design in Russia, from the onion domes of St Basil's Cathedral to Vladimir Shukhov’s Tatlin Tower, a masterpiece of Constructivist design. Outside the Evolution tower is a landscaped terrace and pedestrian zone descending to the Presnenskaya Embankment, which was also designed by Nikandrov.

Did you know? Moscow’s largest wedding palace was supposed to be built on the site of the Evolution tower, though the project was abandoned.

  • 239m tall, 60 floors
  • Completed in 2011

Imperia’s interesting design has a curved roof and an arched glass façade. Inside the tower are various cafes including ‘City Friends’ for all-day breakfasts and light lunches, ‘Mama in the City’ for simple meals of Russian cuisine, and ‘abc kitchen’ for European and Indian-inspired dishes. Alternatively, visit ‘High Bar’ on the 56th floor for cocktails with a view. In Imperia you’ll also find the Museum of High-Rise Construction in Moscow (suitably located on the 56th floor), and the Camera Immersive Theatre.

Did you know? Inside Vystavochnaya metro station is the Metro Museum , dedicated to the history of the beautiful Moscow Metro!

  • 130m tall, 26 floors
  • Completed in 2001
  • Architect: Boris Tkhor

Tower 2000 was Moscow City’s first tower. It stands on the opposite bank of the Moskva River, and houses a viewing platform from which visitors can admire an unparalleled panorama of Moscow City. The Bagration Bridge reaches across the river from the tower to Moscow City, and underneath are piers from where you can take boat trips.
