Knowsley Safari Park

  • Read 1 Review

Situated on the Earl of Derby’s estate, just outside Prescot in Merseyside, Knowsley Safari Park offers visitors the chance to take a 5-mile drive in their cars through enclosures filled with wildlife such as elephants, rhinos, bison, zebra, baboons, wildebeest, emus, tigers, and lions.

The Walkabout Area allows visitors to see some of the animals from outside their vehicles. Animals here include elephants, giraffes, otters, and meerkats. Mizzy Lake Farm features farmyard animals such as cows, rabbits, and pigs, while the Bug House is filled with insects, reptiles, and amphibians. The Sea Lion Show features performances from the park’s resident Californian sea lions. When not performing they can be observed through a large underwater viewing window.

Knowsley Safari Park also features a small amusement park with a number of rides catering to small children and Aerial Extreme, a high ropes adventure course.

Knowsley Safari Park is open every day between March 1 and October 31. Opening times are 10 am to 4 pm. In the winter months it is open at weekends only. It opens at 10.30 am with last admission at 3 pm.

Tickets cost £15 for adults (16 and over), and £11 for children (3 – 15) and pensioners (60 years and over). Tickets cover entry to the Safari Drive, Mizzy Lake Farm, Walkabout Area, Bug House, and Sea Lion Show. Tickets for Aerial Extreme and the amusement park must be purchased separately.

Visitors buying their tickets online from the official website receive a 10 percent discount. Voucher codes giving half price entry and other deals are frequently published on the official Knowsley Safari Park Facebook page.

The Safari Drive is a drive through attraction and visitors must travel in their own vehicles. Vehicles with soft tops are not permitted to enter the lion or baboon areas of the park.

From the moment we arrived the day was brilliant, on entering the Park we immediately encountered a rhino, up close to the car, we drove round saw loads of lovely animals, saw the sea lion show, breathtaking, bought tickets for the rides very reasonable and rides accessible, no queuing, lunch in the Oasis cafe although 'fast food' was tasty, plenty of it and a reasonable price, in all areas the staff were absolutely lovely and helpful... definitely one of the better family days out we have had and we will certainly be returning Read more Written April 9, 2024
  • Cooke30 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Wouldn’t advise to go!!! Very disappointed. Travelled from the midlands and will not be returning. Lots of empty fields and enclosures, managed to get a glimpse of the lions but were fenced off, the baboon enclosure was closed so couldn’t enter. Then went to foot safari and it got worse, the giraffes, bears and tigers were locked away so didn’t see them at all. Paid £100 for myself and family to see lots and lots of Deers and open fields with no animals in them. Would recommend other zoos/safari parks such as Chester Zoo, West Mids Safari Park and Longleat as all offer much better value for money Read more Written April 8, 2024
  • I9125TCsamr 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles it's a bit boring I've not been here for a few years but this visit was a little disappointing to past visits. The safari drive was awful apart from lots of deer we only saw lions and monkeys we did see a couple of rhino too but they were asleep so really only saw a horn there used to be a variety of animal we didn't even see zebra or camels on the safari so was a bit boring. They have a good selection of rides and the sealion show was OK. We went to see the tiger which we did get a glimpse of but we didnt see any giraffe or bears .The food has got a lot better but the wooden cutlery is rubbish ended up leaving the rest of my food after my forks broke twice .Overall the place needs more animals to get it back to how it used to be . • CatH1591 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Disappointing experience, boring “safari” It appears some reviews are getting hidden under an alternative name “Admission tickets” so I’m sharing my review here too… I booked a Meerkat experience for a 60th birthday present for a family member. We arrived a little early but at the check-in, the lady radioed a head to let whoever know we were here and would be waiting by the bus stop. So we waited nearly 30 minutes in the cold, that took us to the time the experience was supposed to start. Still no one came. 10 minutes later I had to ask someone who then radioed over to someone else. We were told someone would be here soon. Around 5-10 minutes later someone finally came so it started around 20 minutes late. Our host was Ben, who was perhaps the best thing about the experience as he was very friendly and great with my son who was partaking in the experience also. The experience wasn’t really what we were expecting. It felt a little rushed and only lasted around 20 minutes instead of the advertised 30 (considering it had started late too…) It was also ruined by onlookers, lots of noisy people and one particularly rude lady. I understand the park can’t control people but perhaps expensive experiences shouldn’t be able to be ruined so easily by onlookers? Overall, I feel it was a waste of money and I wouldn’t recommend booking an experience at Knowsley. We also weren’t given the advertised 10% off the gift shop and I didn’t realise this until I checked the email again post-visit. We did the Safari Drive afterwards and it was boring. I think calling it a safari drive is a stretch as it’s mostly varying types of deer. We left feeling very disappointed and certainly don’t think we’ll be returning any time soon, if ever. • 655jaymeee 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Lacking I must say I was quite disappointed with this visit. I have been a lot over the years with my growing family and this time was shocking. Not a lot of animals on way round the safari. A lot of deer and monkeys but only 1 bison 3 camels 2 giraffes 1 lion 4 lionesses.. 90% of the enclosures on the drive were just empty. Won't be visiting again as I was quite upset with the cost of entry and the lengthy travel only to be let down upon entry Read more Written March 31, 2024
  • Pijj1 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great value day out Our expectations were low given the time of year and some of the reviews we had read, so we were pleasantly surprised. There are not many places that would offer free children's tickets during half term, this made it a very affordable day out when compared with similar attractions. We got to see the tiger, the lions close up and baboons very close up! The birds of prey talk was interesting and a great experience. The rides are aimed at younger children, there was enough of them to mean that we didn't queue for any longer than 15 mins and the wrist band worked at great value. A great offer for adults to be free when accompanying a child on a ride. No charges for parking and the option to take a bus through the baboon enclosure if you don't want to risk taking your car through it. Great day out and would definitely recommend it Read more Written February 20, 2024
  • Q2023RArachelc 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Absolutely brilliant family day out What a great day out - we had a brilliant time on the Baboon Bus with Eddy, he made it such a fun experience as he told us about all the areas and animals so we could concentrate on looking out of the windows. We were so lucky with some of our experiences - with camel and lions coming right up to us. We then saw the Seal and Bird shows which were absolutely brilliant, what a fantastic day out! • G5423JYrobbiew 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Secret Life of the Safari You may be watching Secret Life of the Safari on channel 4 which is Knowsley Safari Park. Well, let me tell say how angry, let down and annoyed at our poor experience and now at the footage they are proudly showing, particularly the lions. I paid over £200 for 2 of us lion experience, special birthday, spent hundreds with travel and hotel, Just for Lion experience and we paid for private safari bus tour, ok i wasn't feeling well so i stayed by myself and let my husband just have the lion experience. As the film crew were there, which we were not informed about, the staff arrived late to pick husband up at collection point and i had to phone them twice, arrived 15 minutes late! Staff were not interested, rushed him around mostly being ignored whilst attention was on the film crew, whose presence had disturbed and unsettled the lions big time so husband was held back, dropped him off early at the waiting area for private bus tour. The monkey enclosure was shut off with some lame fabricated excuse just so their bus didn't get trashed by the monkeys and wanted to get back to the film crew! Then after paying over £600 for our whole trip, particularly just for lion experience i was offered a free ticket…you can imagine my thoughts with your offer of free ticket. Also the families chosen to go around the safari park in their cars is false and probably crew or staff members. We were raced around being told that the hundreds of deer will be culled for meat for the lions and ligers, i did not want to hear that, after a whizzed tour bus a staff members family had a giraffe experience! Couldn't be late for that now could we! Absolutely disgraceful. Grew up visiting the safari park with great childhood memories but now memories are of a badly managed park with poor customer care and attitude. Read more Written January 13, 2024

We were delighted with the experience and how well the animals appear to be treated. Despite the weather we saw many animals and were lucky enough to have a break in the rain to do the foot safari and a ride for our 3 year old grandchild. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Our grandaughter talked about the sea Lion show all the way back to our hotel. We would highly recommend this safari park Read more Written December 30, 2023

Didn’t know what to expect but really pleased with a super day out and reasonably priced too. The safari is a lot of fun. We paid to go on the bus after driving round so we could go in the monkey bit, they really were all over cars so glad I avoided it! Food well priced and lots of choice. Rides expensive, didn’t realise a wristband would be so cost effective wish I had been told. Really enjoyed it and would return! Read more Written December 28, 2023
  • JMX_2013 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Enchanted at Knowsley We visited Enchanted in December 23 with our 4 year old. We were around the entire thing in less than 20 minutes. My partner and I felt genuine disappointment at the end as it simply wasn't worth the visit at all. We've been to Chester in previous years and the difference is massive. No fake snow. No characters for the kids. Installations had faded paint and scratches. But most irritatingly it just wasn't long enough for £15 each. This thing is probably fine for very very young children but it shouldn't be marketed at over 3s in my opinion. And a fiver each would be pushing it. Back to Chester for me next year. • jardenep 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing Enchanted / Santas Grotto experience This was our first time and we absolutely loved it! We did the enchanted trail first and it was absolutely magical, the lights were amazing my little girl loved it. Half way through the trail there is a little part where you can roast marshmallows over a fire pit and it was included no cost for this and was so well organised the staff were brilliant! The little ones could right a letter to santa and then post this in the postbox, there were different food options and a bar for the adults! After the enchanted trail we had about 30 mins before santas grotto, so we went to the rides, we bought a wrist band which was £12 and 1 adult could ride for free with them which I think was brilliant unlimited rides, you could also just buy tokens to go on instead. We lined up for santas grotto at 18:30 our slot was at 18:45 as soon as we lined up a lady came right over and asked us what time and name, again it was so well organised! I do want to say a massive well done to the staff they where incredible with my little girl, she is extremely shy and they went out the way to make her feel at ease especially a lady who was on the door at santas grotto I think she said her name was 'twinkle' she was fabulous and really went the extra mile to make her feel comfortable! Will definitely be coming back next year! 👏🎅 Read more Written December 18, 2023
  • 576erinw 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Disappointing We were on holiday in the area so planned a day here round the safari. I read online and rung before hand to check they have kennels for our dog while we drove round and they advised they did which were secured with a padlock. When we arrived to find a container in the middle of a car park with no side on it with some wooden cages in. These were not satisfactory to leave a dog in so we couldn’t go round the safari. We walked round the zoo instead to find a lot not open and many animals not able to be seen. Really disappointing and would expect safer and more satisfactory kennel for a dog with this being a zoo or just don’t advertise this. Read more Written December 4, 2023
  • nikknox83 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Mini Sea Lion Experience As it was a special birthday for me this year, a friend paid for me to partake in the mini Sea Lion experience at Knowsley Safari park, and it was awesome. I loved every single second of it! One of the trainers, Jake, spent the time with me sharing his knowledge, and taking photos for me, and Arthur the Sea Lion spent the time with me sharing his kisses and showing off his skill! We talked about the way the sea lions are cared for, the way they learn, how cheeky and cute they are, and how wonderfully skilled they are. We later attended the first show which was presented by Lyn, who was also brilliant. It was nice chatting to her afterwards too. All in all it was just a great day, and I could not recommend this experience more. I had a fab time and I will likely book again and again! ❤️❤️ Read more Written November 29, 2023

  • GillianPassmore 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Wonderful day out!! From the moment we arrived the day was brilliant, on entering the Park we immediately encountered a rhino, up close to the car, we drove round saw loads of lovely animals, saw the sea lion show, breathtaking, bought tickets for the rides very reasonable and rides accessible, no queuing, lunch in the Oasis cafe although 'fast food' was tasty, plenty of it and a reasonable price, in all areas the staff were absolutely lovely and helpful... definitely one of the better family days out we have had and we will certainly be returning Read more Written 9 April 2024
Would recommend other zoos/safari parks such as Chester Zoo, West Mids Safari Park and Longleat as all offer much better value for money Read more Written 8 April 2024
Won't be visiting again as I was quite upset with the cost of entry and the lengthy travel only to be let down upon entry Read more Written 31 March 2024
Great day out and would definitely recommend it Read more Written 20 February 2024
Read more Written 13 January 2024
  • jackirmic 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Value for money and really educational and enjoyable We are on a holiday from Australia and visited the Safari park on a wet , cold day . We would highly recommend this safari park Read more Written 30 December 2023

Read more Written 28 December 2023
👏🎅 Read more Written 18 December 2023
Read more Written 4 December 2023
❤️❤️ Read more Written 29 November 2023
