Royal Canadian Mint Launches Star Trek 50th Anniversary Coin Collection

The Royal Canadian Mint , under license by CBS Consumer Products, is set to uncover a new world of collectibles celebrating the 50th anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series . The unforgettable characters and imagery of the revolutionary TV show, which has captivated legions of fans in Canada and around the world since 1966, have been captured on a stunning variety of coins devoted to the original series.

A $10 coloured silver coin picturing the commander of U.S.S. Enterprise , Captain James Tiberius Kirk , was unveiled by William Shatner , the Canadian-born actor who made this character a household name, and Mint President and CEO Sandra Hanington at an event hosted by the Canada Aviation and Space Museum .

“Through many unforgettable coins, the Royal Canadian Mint has skillfully captured the historical events and cultural experiences whose impact on Canadians continues to be felt today,” said the Honourable Bill Morneau , Minister of Finance. “On the 50th anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series, the Government of Canada is pleased that the Mint could commemorate the historic influence of this ground-breaking television series and the uniquely Canadian contributions to its enduring success.”

“For 50 years, Star Trek captured the imagination of countless fans by entertaining us while opening our eyes to the possibilities of science and the wonders of our vast universe,” said Sandra Hanington, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint. “The Mint is proud to celebrate a cultural phenomenon that has carved a space in the hearts and minds of Canadians and fellow Star Trek fans all over Planet Earth.”

The fine silver coin featuring Captain Kirk can be purchased from the Mint as of May 13 at 1-800-267-1871 in Canada, 1-800-268-6468 in the US, or online at www.mint.ca . It will also be available at the Royal Canadian Mint’s boutiques in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Vancouver, as well as through the Mint’s global network of dealers and distributors, including participating Canada Post outlets. 2016 $10 FINE SILVER COIN SERIES – STAR TREK ™ : THE CHARACTERS AND THE TECHNOLOGY (COIN # 1: CAPTAIN KIRK)

This series of four coins celebrates some of the most iconic Star Trek characters, paired with some of the technology made famous by the show. The first coin features a coloured engraving of Captain James T. Kirk, commander of U.S.S. Enterprise , which appears in an overhead view of its saucer-shaped hull and twin warp nacelles. Captain Kirk and his ship are framed by the unmistakable outline of Starfleet’s Delta Shield insignia. Retailing for $54.95 CAD, this half-ounce, 99.99% pure silver coin is limited to a mintage of 12,500.

2016 $20 FINE SILVER COIN – STAR TREK ™ : ENTERPRISE

The reverse design of this 99.99% pure silver coin features a colourful tribute to U.S.S. Enterprise which recreates a scene from the 1968 episode “I, Mudd”. Rich colour has been applied over an engraved scene of the famed star ship approaching a Class K planet, rendered in rich earth tones and set against the dark void of space. This 1 oz. silver coin is limited to a mintage of 11,500 and retails for $109.95 CAD.

2016 $20 FINE SILVER COIN SERIES – STAR TREK ™ : CLASSIC SCENES

This three-coin series captures classic scenes from the most popular episodes of the original Star Trek ™ series. Beginning with “City on the Edge of Forever” from 1967, every scene is rendered in bold colour over an engraved surface. This coin features Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock standing among the ruins before the towering, ring-shaped entity known as The Guardian of Forever. Retailing for $109.95 CAD and limited to a mintage of 11,500, this 1 oz. silver coin is available as of August 2, 2016.

2016 $200 PURE GOLD COIN – STAR TREK ™ : DELTA COIN

One of the most cherished and recognized emblems of Star Trek ™ is the Delta Shield insignia, which is celebrated in 99.99% pure gold on the world’s first delta-shaped coin. Reflecting the gold tone of the original series’ insignia, the Delta Shield featured on this 99.99% pure gold coin displays the elongated star symbol which identified crew assigned to Command. Available as of September 6, 2016, this exclusive collectible is limited to a low mintage of 1,500 coins and retails for $1,299.95 CAD.

2016 25-CENT COLOURED COIN AND STAMP SET – STAR TREK ™ : ENTERPRISE

The Mint has crafted a 25-cent face value, nickel-plated steel collector coin which is offered in a coin and stamp set retailing for $34.95 CAD and available while supplies last. The reverse design of the coin combines detailed engraving with vibrant colour in tribute to U.S.S. Enterprise . Outer space serves as the dark background in the outer ring, over which six different perspectives of Enterprise surround a central motif of a Delta Shield insignia. The stamps included in this special set feature Captain Kirk, U.S.S. Enterprise and a Klingon battle cruiser.

The newest edition of the Mint’s popular fine silver $20 coins, which are sold at face value as an affordable introduction to coin collecting, also celebrates U.S.S. Enterprise . This ¼ oz. silver coin features the famed star ship in attack mode, with her two phasers blasting into space. The scene is enhanced by a stylized Delta Shield incorporating the number “50” and coin lettering rendered in a Star Trek’ font. A total of 300,000 of these coins are being minted.

The obverses of all these coins feature the 2003 effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II , designed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt .

New Commemorative Coins from Perth Mint

The Perth Mint will honor Star Trek with a pair of limited-edition silver commemorative coins, the first in a new collector series set to launch on February 16. The 1-oz. silver proof coins depict Star Trek: The Original Series -era Captain Kirk and the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. The reverse of the Kirk coin features a color image of William Shatner as his iconic screen character, while the reverse of the Enterprise coin depicts the United Federation of Planets logo and a color image of the starship flying through space. The inscriptions CAPTAIN JAMES T. KIRK and STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES U.S.S. ENTERPRISE NCC-1701, respectively, complete each design with the Perth Mint's traditional "P" mintmark. The obverse of each coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and the 2015 year date.

No more than 5,000 of either coin and 1500 of a two-coin set will be issued. Each coin is available individually for $115.00, while the two-coin set, presented in novel, light-up "Transporter" packaging, costs $230. These coins are the first in a planned two-year series of releases. Fans in Australia can purchase the coins at the Perth Mint Shop in East Perth and at leading coin dealers and Australia Post outlets. All fans can purchase them from the Perth Mint online shop.

Interactions with star trek productions [ ].

In the episode " Peak Performance ", Michael Dorn 's Worf character kept a metallic model of a D7-class Klingon battle cruiser in his quarters. This model was used again as a background prop in Drafting Room 5 on Mars Station in the " Booby Trap " episode. The model was actually an unmodified nine-inch 1989 evaluation prototype from The Franklin Mint's pewter Star Trek starships line.

Wil Wheaton 's Wesley Crusher character kept a metallic model of a Constitution -class vessel in his room at the Starfleet Academy campus in " The First Duty ". This model was actually an unmodified ten-inch pewter USS Enterprise model (#810) released by The Franklin Mint in 1988 .

In " The Visitor ", Tony Todd portrayed an elderly Jake Sisko who existed in alternate reality's mid-25th century. A Franklin Mint Deep Space 9 model can be seen as a set decoration in the living room of Jake's Louisiana home.

The Franklin Mint's " Zefram Cochrane 's Phoenix " pewter replica was utilized in three episodes as display models seen in Admiral Maxwell Forrest 's office. The Phoenix also appeared as one of Travis Mayweather 's childhood models which were kept aboard the ECS Horizon .

Star Trek Coin Pusher – Card Collecting Strategy Guide (2021)

The Star Trek coin pusher at Dave and Buster’s can be super addicting. It’s fun to try and collect the full set of cards and turn them in for massive amounts of tickets.

This complete strategy guide will give you the most important information on this classic arcade coin pusher that you need to know. All the cards will be revealed, along with some simple, helpful tips to win the full set of cards.

How many cards are in the Star Trek coin pusher set and what are they? 

The old set from 2016 and 2017 has 8 cards, with Tribbles being the rare one. There are regular cards and holographic cards that you can find within the coin pusher machines. You can still come across these cards if the arcade has not updated them yet. 

Pictured below are all the cards from this Star Trek set. 

There is another old set from 2018 that has 8 cards with Borg being the rare one of the bunch. Here it is below.

The new updated Star Trek card set (as of 2019) still has 8 cards and the rare card is Mugato. Again, there are both regular cards and holographic cards of the same Star Trek characters to collect.

The rare card is in the bottom right corner of each of these pictures.

It seems that they change the Star Trek cards sets every year or so. This could be because it makes it harder to turn in sets of the old cards that you have gathered over the year if you can no longer find them in the Star Trek arcade machines. 

How many tickets can you win for the turning in the Star Trek card set? 

• Turning in a full set of 8 regular Star Trek cards will get you 2500 tickets . 
• Each individual regular card will only get you 50 tickets per card .
• Turning in a full set of 8 holographic cards will get you a whopping 5000 tickets !
• Each holographic card is worth 100 tickets when turned in on its own.

You can also win tickets by collecting blue or orange chips that fall in the coin pusher. These chips can be turned in for tickets. They used to be worth 20 tickets but they are now worth 15 tickets for every blue or orange Star Trek chip.  

Is there a Star Trek coin pusher hack? 

There is no way to cheat the system to easily win at the Star Trek coin pusher. It will take time to practice and get used to how the coins drop and where you should aim them. It also requires knowledge of the cards and the right timing to win.

These Star Trek coin pusher tips will give you the best shot at collecting all the cards and getting the most tickets. 

Star Trek Coin Pusher Tips on How to Win

Know what the star trek rare card is and be on the lookout for it when it is close to the edge of the coin pusher.  .

The most important information to know to win tickets on the Star Trek coin pusher is that Mugato is the rare card in the current set. Mugato is a yeti-looking creature.  

Tribbles or Borg were the rare ones in the old sets but can still be seen in some Star Trek arcade machines. 

If you play Star Trek, you will most likely get tons of repeat cards from the set other than this one rare card. You will get multiple Mirror Spocks or Klingons, but almost no Mugatos. This is how they limit the number of sets that players can finish to turn in for the large ticket value. 

It is fine to play normally and for extended periods of time if you are just starting out and have no cards or if you just need to replenish your supply of common Star Trek cards. If you have a lot of common cards (which does not take long to get) then I would start to only search for the rare Mugato card.

You can do this by checking Dave and Buster’s or your local arcade weekly to see if the rare Star Trek card is in the machine or even better if it is close to the edge of the coin pusher. 

If you don’t see the rare card then don’t waste your tokens or chips playing the Star Trek coin pusher that day. Come back another time to keep checking on if the Mugato card is present. 

This is the most important strategy for most card collecting arcade coin pushers. The same is true for the SpongeBob coin pusher and the Despicable Me coin pusher.   

Learn these tips and tricks for dropping the coins in the Star Trek coin pusher. 

You control where the coins drop in the back of the machine, so use these tips to help get the coin dozer to push them where you want them. 

If you want to push off cards or tokens on the side of the machine then use this tip: aim the coin shooter at the far back flat side of the wall, about an inch away from the angled wall.

Do not just push the arm all the way to the side. This will cause the coins to bounce off the angled wall and end up more towards the middle than you want if you are going for cards on the sides. 

Keep the arm angled toward the side you want but bounce off the flat wall. This will be a better way to push the coins onto the far side of the machine. 

Another simple tip is to spread out the shots of coins. Do not just keep the arm in one area.

A lot of times a large stack of coins on the edge needs pressure from another side to give it the oomph it needs to fall off. 

If you want a stack on the far right side of the machine to fall then start with putting coins on that far side by using the first tip mentioned above. Once you use 10 or so coins and you do not see as much movement then aim an inch further towards the center of the coin pusher. This should help move that far right stack of coins off quicker and using less coins/chips.  

Wait to turn in a full set. Do not turn in individual cards unless you have to. 

You will get the most tickets when turning in the full sets. So wait until you have the set until you redeem them. 2500 tickets for the regular set and 5000 tickets for the holographic is a ton of tickets. 

It is almost a waste to only get 50 tickets per card….but if you know for some reason that you will never play the Star Trek coin pusher again (I don’t know why you would do this) then you could turn in your remaining cards just to get the tickets that would have just gone to waste. 

Play on Half Off Wednesday at Dave and Buster’s.

Obviously the best time to play is on Wednesday when the games cost half of what they normally do. You can get in twice as many attempts at collecting the cards.

But remember the tip that you want to watch for the rare card to be in the machine. Wednesdays are usually the busiest day so more people will be playing the Star Trek coin pusher. 

Not only will it be hard to find an open game to play on this day, but also the people playing will most likely play until they push the rare card off or until there are no cards close to the edge. 

Continue to check the arcade on days other than Wednesday to find that elusive rare card!

The most fun part of the Star Trek coin pusher is the excitement of seeing the rare card or a card you need to complete your collection. I love that feeling of finishing the set and turning them in for tons of tickets.

Star Trek is a relatively simple arcade game. The only thing you control is the angle and when the coins drop. It does not take a lot of skill or mental energy. This can be boring to some but it can also be relaxing. 

When I go to Dave and Buster’s I will see the same “regulars” sitting at the Star Trek coin pusher and they always seem super chill. It reminds me of people who play slot machines at the casino.

'Star Trek: The Next Generation': Where Is The Cast Now?

"Space... the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship 'Enterprise'. Its continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before!" Wow! What an amazing cult classic! "Captain Picard" and his crew, consisting of both human and alien beings, traveled the galaxy on mysterious adventures audiences had never seen before! Since the series ended in 1994, the franchise and the original crew itself have changed a lot! Let's take a look at the crew members and what they're up to today!

"Deanna Troi"

"Deanna Troi" was a half-human, half "Betazoid" being who served under "Captain Picard's" command aboard the 'USS Enterprise-D' and 'USS Enterprise-E'. She served as the ship counselor, helping her fellow crew members with their various problems.

Marina Sirtis

After the series ended, Marina Sirtis moved on to star in all of the Star Trek spin-off films including Star Trek Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek: Nemesis. Much like the other stars on this list, Sirtis also starred in dozens of series later on in her career, such as NCIS, Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and Grey's Anatomy. She is currently married to rock guitarist Michael Lamper.

"William Riker"

"William Thomas Riker" is probably most known for his longest campaign as an officer under "Captain Jean Luc-Picard" aboard the 'USS Enterprise-D'. Later on in the series, he accepts the promotion as Captain aboard the 'USS Titan'. "Riker" is romantically linked to "Deanna Troi," the starship's counselor.

Jonathan Frakes

Johnathan Frakes played the role of "William Thomas Riker" on the hit series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Before he went to space, he had already starred on a few popular shows like Hart to Hart, Highway to Heaven, The Fall Guy and many more. After the series ended, he moved on to star in several different television and movie productions such as well as all of the Star Trek feature films all the way up to 2002! He also hosted the show Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction. Frakes is currently married to actress Genie Francis whom he met on the set of the TV mini-series North and South. The couple have two children.

"Lt. Commander Data"

"Lore" and "Data were both "Soong-type" androids created by "Doctor Nooniain Soong" and "Juliana Soong" at the Omicron Colony. "Lore" was the pure embodiment of A.I. having the first successful positronic brain. Due to his robotic nature, he had abilities the rest of the crew did not possess such as super strength and speed. "Lore" began feeling superior to his fellow crew members leading to him trying to destroy them. After a long and bitter conflict, "Lore" was eventually shut down and replaced by his brother "Data".

Brent Spiner

After The Next Generation, Spiner also went on to star in all of the Star Trek feature films. Since then, Spiner has starred in a number of different animated TV series such as Family Guy, The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Star Wars Rebels. Brent has also appeared in smash hit series like The Big Bang Theory and Criminal Minds.

"Dr. Beverly Crusher"

"Dr. Beverly Crusher" is the crew's doctor aboard the 'USS Enterprise-D', and later 'USS Enterprise-E'.

Gates McFadden

Gates McFadden wasn't as active in show business as the rest of her co-stars after Star Trek: The Next Generation ended. However, she did star in all of the Star Trek feature films up until 2002. Over the course of her career, she also starred in a few other TV shows such as The Cosby Show, The Practice, and Mad About You. She is currently married to John Cleveland Talbot, and they have one son.

"Worf"

"Worf" is a Klingon (a fictional alien species) and is a Starfleet officer aboard the 'Enterprise-D', as well as the ships that came afterwards.

Michael Dorn

After the show ended, Michael Dorn moved on to star in several minor roles, like most of his co-stars. He also starred in all of the Star Trek films as well as numerous other movies such as Ali, The Santa Clause 2, Heart Of The Beholder, and Ted 2. As far as television goes, Dorn has made a name for himself in the animated TV show scene starring in series such as Family Guy, Winx Club, Transformers: Titans Return, Adventure Time and many more.

"Geordi La Forge"

"Geordi La Forge" is the pilot and chief engineer of the 'USS Enterprise-D' , and later the 'USS Enterprise-E'.

LeVar Burton

LeVar Burton hosted and produced the PBS kids show Reading Rainbow in 1983, before Star Trek: The Next Generation. Afterwards he starred in several different shows such as Murder, She Wrote and has also lent his voice to several different animated shows such as Family Guy, Batman: The Animated Series and Gargoyles.

"Wesley Crusher"

"Lieutenant Wesley R. Crusher" was the son of Lieutenant Commander "Jack Crusher" and "Dr. Beverly Crusher". After a long career on the 'USS Enterprise-D', he decided to leave the crew and join "Tau Alphan The Traveler" on his journey through space.

Wil Wheaton

Wil Wheaton was on Star Trek: The Next Generation for three and one-quarter seasons before leaving the show to pursue other projects. He made occasional appearances on the show, but eventually decided to attend acting school full time. He currently lives in Arcadia, California with his wife and two sons.

"Captain Jean-Luc Picard"

"Captain Jean-Luc Picard" is a Starfleet captain, archaeologist, and diplomat. During the series, he captains the 'USS Enterprise' (NCC-1701-D) with the help of his intergalactic crew! "Picard" himself played a large role in the series galactic history, discovering over 27 alien species throughout the entire franchise.

Sir Patrick Stewart

Sir Patrick Stewart's life was changed after playing the role of "Captain Jean Luc-Picard" in the hit sci-fi series. He would play the role of "Captain Picard" ever so often in spin-off movies like Star Trek Generations, Star Trek: Insurrection and Star Trek: First Contact. Stewart has also played a large part in the X-Men franchise as "Professor Charles Xavier". Because of his unique voice, he has been able to star as a voice actor in dozens of animated series and movies such as Family Guy, American Dad, Chicken Little, and Ice Age. Patrick currently live in Brooklyn, New York with his wife Sunny Ozell.
