The “Bluegrass State,” part of the upland south and the Appalachian region, may be best known for horse racing and bourbon, but it also offers some of the best hunting in the region. Here in the land of Daniel Boone, hunters can roam beautiful forests, rolling open fields, and spectacular mountains in search of deer, bear, elk, and turkeys. Kentucky boasts the largest elk herd east of the Mississippi River. Elk were reintroduced in the southern part of the state in the 1990s after an absence of 150 years, and the herd is thriving. More than 500 elk were taken by hunters last year. White-tailed deer populations are at all-time highs, with nearly a million deer roaming the state, and Kentucky produces enough trophy bucks to stay consistently in the top five rankings of the Boone and Crockett Club listings. In addition, black bear hunting opportunities are expanding as more bruins colonize the state from the southeast. Kentucky is home to a variety of smaller game, including squirrels, rabbits, quail, and grouse. Migratory bird hunting opportunities include doves, ducks, geese, sandhill cranes, and more. Wild turkeys, restocked in the state in the 1950s, are flourishing in numbers that allow them to be hunted throughout the state. Hunters in Kentucky must carry a valid hunter education card while hunting in addition to their license and applicable species permit. Hunter orange must be worn on the head, chest, and back when hunting during the rifle and muzzleloader seasons. Probably most popular for providing modern rifle hunting during the heart of the rut, Early season archery for a velvet buck, taking advantage of the October Muzzleloader hunt or chasing Pre-rut and rut whitetails in late October and November with your bow can provide some great hunting. Late season Muzzleloader hunts can also be productive on food sources when the temperatures are cold. Some of the finest Kentucky bucks are right here in the heart of Western Kentucky and the record books don't lie. George Cummins, Owner

George was born and raised right here in Central Kentucky has been hunting and enjoying the outdoors his entire life. Much of his hunting as a child happened right on the very same farms we still manage today.  He has been managing a lot of this land for almost 20 years. George is married with 2 boys, ages 12 and 7. He has had a love for the outdoors his entire life. He began hunting with his dad at a young age and he is teaching his boys the same way his dad taught him. 

Salt River Outfitters is a big family, everyone that comes to hunt becomes a member of the family. He will make sure you are prepared for the hunt, whether its your first time hunting or you are a seasoned veteran! George also loves to show people around central Kentucky while they are here hunting; from the bourbon distilleries to the horse farms and Keeneland (horse racing track), there is plenty to see and do in Central Kentucky if you have free time while you are here. The Locations

Salt River Outfitters is located on the “ Bourbon Trail .”  As an added bonus, as you stay with us, you can tour many of the bourbon distilleries on the “Bourbon Trail” that are located within 30 minutes of us.  If a tour is desired, we can arrange it for you during the day before your evening hunt. We have some very good early season velvet archery hunts and our rifle hunts are right in the middle of the rut. I had the opportunity to hunt with SRO during their late November rifle hunt. George and his guys take pride in putting guys in position to have an opportunity at bucks. I was able to take my first whitetail, an amazing 8 point, while hunting with these guys. This place is awesome. George and his crew really go above and beyond for everyone in camp. Everything from the lodge, to the food, to all the deer sightings was absolutely phenomenal. When considering ky deer hunting, it's important to look at other   Kentucky Outfitters .  Kentucky whitetail outfitters offer different types of deer hunting guide services.  You'll need to decide how much money you can spend and what type of amenities you want to pay for.   My Kentucky deer ranch is 95% wooded, which means you can get lost hunting and scouting for deer.  I've personally bulldozed in trails on my trophy whitetail property and offer maps so that this doesn't happen, but I have been lost for hours prior to the trails.  When lost ky deer hunting , get more orange out, your gun down, and flashlight on. Walk straight past deer hunters, apologize if you're that close, and walk towards any cars you hear on the road.   Kentucky outfitters try to keep it easy for hunters.  One more thing, know your hunting laws  and have your resident license or non-resident Kentucky hunting license handy. 

I don't mind rambling about food plots, best times to KENTUCKY DEER HUNT , KY deer hunting, and Kentucky trophy deer.  If you're a novice outdoorsman and want to share a ky whitetail hunt with a child, book a gun hunt.  There is a good chance you'll at least "shoot at" a nice buck.  While deer hunting in Kentucky , I sat with my niece, who is a good shot, and watched her miss a 140 inch 10 pointer by 5 feet cause she was nervous. In 2015, the same thing happened.  The Kentucky whitetail big bucks will peak out for a bit, or they'll be on the move. To stop a Kentucky trophy deer, practice on grunting, rattle your horns, or making a noise to get them to stop so you can harvest your trophy buck; otherwise, that deer will be gone. My food plots are almost "scent check proof."  This means I have a lot of "edge" around my food plots so the deer need to come out in the field a bit to visually see if a doe is in the plot.  Speaking of does, I do trap for predators / coyotes to make sure our fawns and deer herd continue to flourish and to protect our Kentucky Trophy whitetail .  Read my Kentucky hunting forum  info to learn as much as you can before paying out money.      What defines a  Kentucky deer hunting guide  or a KENTUCKY DEER HUNTING OUTFITTER?  Some Kentucky outfitters make your food , walk you to stands, and are with you the entire time; this is a great hunting guide service, but it's something we don't offer.  Your job is to hunt.  I do offer a primitive  ky deer hunting cabin  built in 2015 with gas lights,gas heat, cookstove, but it has an outhouse.   Ky deer hunts really vary, which is why I like to show people my Kentucky deer hunting lease opportunity.  Almost 100% of the people who look at my Kentucky semi-guided deer hunt book a trophy whitetail deer hunt. www.huntingkentuckydeer.com

Your deposit will be applied once you are satisfied.  Diamond Whitetails is located on over 5,000 acres of prime deer habitat in Western Kentucky, where your chances of harvesting a giant whitetail buck will be great.  Preserve hunts allow the hunter to maximize time spent in the field. How Do I Pay For My Hunt?

You can pay for your hunt in 3 equal payments or in full on our website.  The first payment is due on February 15th, the second payment is due April 15th and the final payment is due on August 1st.  You can also pay over the phone with a credit card, or by check via mail.

How Do I Book a Hunt?

To book a hunt with Diamond Whitetails, LLC, fill out our booking contract online or you can download a copy and mail it to us. Your hunt will be reserved (booked) once we receive a deposit of $500.00 per hunter. The deposit is credited towards your overall hunt price. You can pay your deposit securely on our website or by phone using a credit card, or you can mail a check.

Do I need a Non-Resident Kentucky Hunting License?

No, you will not need to get a Non-Resident Kentucky Hunting License. Diamond Whitetails, LLC is permitted by the State of Kentucky, therefore we are not required to have a State hunting license.

What is the Benefit of a Preserve Hunt?

Preserve hunts allow the hunter to maximize time spent in the field. Many private ranch hunters can attest to the fact that they spend most of the year feeding, managing property, scouting, controlling predators, keeping trespassers out, etc.

Are Children Allowed to Hunt?

Yes, children are allowed to hunt, but they must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian. We do not have a minimum age requirement.

Diamond Whitetails is located in Western Kentucky. We are approximately 2 hours northwest of Nashville, TN and an hour South of Evansville , IN.

Are your hunts guaranteed?

Yes, all of our hunts are 100% GUARANTEED! If for some reason you weren’t able to harvest a trophy buck during your stay, you will be invited back to try again. Your deposit will be applied once you are satisfied.
