How can I stop Firefox from automatically adding www in front of urls? Even when I try to reach an ip it tries to add www. in front of it, which results in a 404-error. I already set my config as shown in the screenshot below. Please help!

It is weird to change a string-value to 'false'... But I tried it, no result. I solved the problem now by deleting all cookies, site preferences etc. Don't know how this could be the cause, but it works now :)

Would you please try this :

Type in the address bar about:config (press Enter) (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar and look for the preference :

browser.fixup.alternate.prefix

And set its value to false

Then close and restart Firefox.

You need to reset the pref via the right-click context menu to the default value if you changed its value to false because otherwise the fixup can't work properly.

Actually, this looks like a bug. I have the same problem. There is a flag called browser.fixup.alternate.enabled that is supposed to be blocking that action. It used to work. Mine is set to false , but it is now doing the 'fixup'. The ESR version I am currently on (52.4.1) has it broken and does not seem to pay attention to the flag. It looks like somewhere along the line, a bug has been introduced to the codebase.

browser.fixup.alternate.prefix and browser.fixup.alternate.suffix are the strings that are to be applied should the 'fixup' rule be applied.

How to block a website in safari on iphone and ipad.

If you're an iPhone or iPad owner (especially one whose children use your device), you might occasionally want to block access to a specific website. Whether that website is one of adult nature or just something, you don't want your children to be able to readily access, blocking specific websites on an iPhone or iPad takes just a few taps.

We're going to run through how you can make sure a specific website isn't accessible in Safari. This process recently changed with the release of iOS 12, so if you think you already know how to block websites, you might be surprised. Apple has rolled this particular functionality into its new Screen Time feature, and while it's now hidden below a couple of extra taps, it still works like a charm.

Head into the Settings app, scroll down a bit and tap the "Screen Time" option.

Next, tap "Content Privacy & Restrictions."

If it's not already activated, flick the "Content & Privacy Restrictions" toggle on and then tap "Content Restrictions" to proceed.

On the content restrictions page, tap the "Web Content" option. You might notice that it says "Unrestricted Access," but you will be changing that shortly.

Don't worry; you're almost done.

Next, enable the "Limit Adult Websites" option, which is required before you can block specific sites. From there, tap "Add Website" at the bottom of the screen. This is where you will enter the URL of the website you are going to block.

On the Add Website page, type the URL of the website you want to block and then tap "Done" on the keyboard.

At this point, you're all done, and the website is blocked. You can test this by heading over to Safari and trying to access the website in question. If all has gone according to plan, you will see an error similar to the one we have here.

If you need to add more websites, return to the same place and keep adding. If you decide to remove one at a later date, swipe on the URL and then tap "Delete."

If you prefer to use Chrome instead of Safari, there are some workarounds for blocking websites in Chrome even though there's no built-in feature for it.

Disable automatic www insertion in Firefox

If you type the URL http://xyz.example (even with explicit http:// ), Firefox will redirect you to http://www.xyz.example , even if that site does not exist. It's a really annoying behavior.

How can I turn it off?

However , Firefox may not be doing this.

In the case where you navigate to a web address (e.g. example.com ) but are redirected to a different URL (such as www.example.com ), the redirection can be performed by the website's owner, not the browser.

There are two ways this can be done:

• URL 301 redirect on the web server
• CNAME record in DNS

Both methods are under the control of the owner of the example.com domain and cannot be defeated by changing settings in your browser.

Hopefully everyone knows about this DNS server hacking scheme that is able to hack a DNS server and send millions of unwitting web surfers to cloned websites. A hacker could potentially clone a bank's website to perfection except for the login frame which would then send the hacker your user name and password and then forward you to the actual website unknowingly. The browser would just assume that they typed their name or password wrong. This could net a hacker millions of bank account logins in a matter of the first hour. This appears to me to be the MOST DANGEROUS exploit of the internet in history. WHAT IS THE SOLUTION? It would seem that the solution, barring a DNS server side fix, is to type in the actual IP address (ex. 159.53.64.54) for the secure sites that you wish to visit instead of using a URL "chase.com" The problem with this is that Safari always adds an * http://*159.53.64.54 to the beginning of the address disallowing you to use direct IP addresses. *How can I type in a direct IP address into Safari, Firefox etc.?* Please let there be an answer.

HTTP is, as the name suggests, the protocol required to use the site you're attempting to visit. If you wanted to access an FTP IP, you would have to type ftp:// The addition of "http://" is not a problem. Oh, and that IP you showed doesn't actually work for anything.  

Don't do this. Virtually every enterprise on the planet uses load balancing devices to ensure that each of their Internet facing servers does not become overloaded. Therefore when you type a URL it is quite legitimate to receive different IP addresses on different occasions, with only open SSL sessions retaining IP persistence. The window of opportunity to exploit this issue with the DNS has mostly passed already. All vendors have now issued patches for their software (including, finally, Apple, who were the last major vendor to do so), and due to the severity of the issue patching DNS servers was given major priority. The sky is not on this occasion falling.  

I just read and heard differently I have heard and read that the patches applied are only temporary fixes at best until another exploit occurs. It would seem that direct IP addressing is the only certain way to reach your destination with utter assurance. Thus, I am merely trying to setup some bookmarks for the most important sites I visit such as banks and credit cards with direct IP addresses. So am I to understand that there is no way to directly access pages within a website (ex. https://chaseonline.chase.com/Logon.aspx ) using an IP address (xx.xx.xx.xxx. ~whatever) using the locations toolbar even though this is the most secure way to get anywhere. Anything else leaves me with a sense of vulnerability and subservience to hackable DNS servers.

Block pop-up ads and windows in Safari

Avoid interacting with pop-ups

Unless you’re confident that they are a legitimate ad, avoid interacting with pop-ups or webpages that seem to take over your screen.

If you see an annoying pop-up ad in Safari, you can go to the Search field and enter a new URL or search term to browse to a new site. If you don’t see the Search field on your iPhone or iPad, tap the top of the screen to make it appear.

Update your software

Always install the latest software updates for all of your Apple products. Many software releases have important security updates and may include improvements that help control pop-ups.

The safest way to download apps for your Mac is from the App Store. If you need software that isn’t available from the App Store, get it directly from the developer or another reliable source, rather than through an ad or link.

Check Safari settings

On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Safari.

Turn on Block Pop-ups.

Turn on Fraudulent Website Warning.

On your Mac, open Safari and choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences) from the menu bar.

In the Websites tab , you can configure options to allow or block some or all pop-ups .

In the Security tab , turn on the setting to warn when visiting a fraudulent website.

If adware or other unwanted software is installed on Mac

If you see pop-ups on your Mac that just won’t go away, you might have unintentionally downloaded and installed adware (advertising-supported software) or other unwanted software. Certain third-party download sites might include software that you don’t want along with the software that you do.

If you think that you might have malware or adware on your Mac:

Update to the latest version of macOS. If your Mac is already using the latest version, restart your Mac. macOS includes a built-in tool that removes known malware when restarting.

Check your Applications folder to see if you have any apps that you don't expect. You can uninstall those apps .

Check the Extensions tab in Safari settings to see if you installed any unnecessary extensions. You can turn extensions off .

ISTANBUL− Turkey will not resume trade with Israel, worth $7 billion a year, until a permanent ceasefire and humanitarian aid are secured in Gaza, it said on Friday, the first of Israel's key partners to halt trade over the conflict .

Israel's "uncompromising attitude" and the worsening situation in Gaza's southern Rafah region - where Israel has threatened to launch a new offensive - prompted Turkey to halt all exports and imports, said Trade Minister Omer Bolat.

Israel's Foreign Minister Israel Katz criticised Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's move, announced late on Thursday, saying it breaks international trade agreements and was "how a dictator behaves".

The militant group Hamas, which rules Gaza, praised the decision as brave and supportive of Palestinian rights.

Top Turkish exports to Israel are steel, vehicles, plastics, electrical devices and machinery, while imports are dominated by fuels at $634 million last year, Turkish trade data show.

Turkish exporters look for a way around the Israel ban

Turkish exporters with firm orders are looking at ways to send their goods to Israel via third countries after Turkey halted bilateral trade, four export sector sources told Reuters.
