The park is also home to the renowned Mulu Caves, one of the largest and most spectacular cave systems on Earth. Set out on a night walk with our local guide to look for the park’s nocturnal wildlife, spotting blinking fireflies and luminescent fungi along the way.

Climb up a series of steps to reach the breathtaking underground river in Clearwater Cave, the longest cave passage in Asia. After a picnic lunch, walk through delightful foliage to the Lang and Deer Caves. Marvel at Lang Cave's magnificent stalagmites and stalactites, and tread with awe into Deer Cave—one of the largest cave passages in the world and home to more than three million bats. We’ll try to time our excursion to coincide with the bat exodus, when these nocturnal creatures fly out en masse to hunt for insects.

Orangutans are among the planet’s most critically endangered creatures, found only in Borneo and Sumatra. Later, head to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to meet rescued Malayan sun bears. We’ll enjoy a talk on these elusive creatures—the smallest species of bear in the world—and learn about the efforts underway to protect them. Afterward, transfer to our lodge in the small village of Kampung Bilit and embark on an evening cruise on the Kinabatangan River, seeking out monkeys, birds, elephants, and crocodiles.

Day 8 Kampung Bilit

Located along a curve on the thriving Kinabatangan River, the small village of Kampung Bilit offers a wide array of wildlife-viewing opportunities. Drive to Tabin Wildlife Reserve and check in to our rainforest lodge. This stunning reserve is home to nine primate species, three species of cat, and hundreds of bird species. Embark on a hike along an elephant trail to the Lipad mud volcano, which provides a natural mineral lick for local wildlife, and climb to the top of the observation tower for incredible views of the surrounding forest. Overview of Tour

This 5 day itinerary brings you through the exotic twin cities of Borneo – Kota Kinabalu & Kuching City – venturing into the ancient Borneo rainforest to witness the Orangutans, time-travelling to the past in an award-winning living museum, and caving through limestone caverns. We’re also throwing in a glorious dose of sun, sand and sea. An itinerary that boasts stunning natural scenery, best of Borneo’s wild wonders and cultural highlights.

We are pleased and delighted with our trip from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu. The 4-day journey there was amazing and fun. We learned a lot about Borneo tribal cultures and their way of life.

Our driver cum tour guide was a very responsible and pleasant person who was keen to share all his knowledge about Sarawak. Anthony Wong was prompt in his response and also provided great assistance in booking our land tour. All land trips and hotel bookings were arranged smoothly.

We strongly recommend ‘Amazing Borneo.

Sample Itinerary

Arrive in kuching / sarawak cultural village.

5 Days in Borneo begins with Day 1 in Kuching City, state capital of Sarawak. The beautiful friendship between you and Borneo will kick off on the cultural side of things, the first stop on the day’s agenda is Sarawak Cultural Village. Visit the award-winning ‘living’ museum that spreads over a 17-acre site at the foothills of mystical Mount Santubong. Here is where you will tap into the tribal lifestyles of the 7 major ethnic groups that makes Sarawak so culturally awesome. Discover the arts, crafts, games, tasty delicacies and also behold the architectural heritage of Longhouses representing the ethnic groups of Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu and the Melanau tall-house. Boogie down, Borneo style! Brace yourself for a multi-cultural dance performance in the village’s own theatre. After the tour, you’ll be transported back to your hotel.

Lunch Kuching 4-Star Hotel

Fairy & Wind Caves / Semenggoh Orang Utan Centre / Kuching

Wake up and pack up for a day of exploration deep into the innards of Kuching’s limestone caves! Hit the road for a 22km drive from Kuching City to a famous old mining centre named Bau where it is home to two unusual limestone caves.

First stop, Fairy Caves , where you’ll be met by a 3 storey high chamber opening. Explore the caves with a torchlight, and make your way to the main chamber where you can marvel at Stalacites and Stalagmites hanging tight from the cave ceilings. Look out for a formation deemed ‘The Goddess of Mercy”, three meters in height and resembling a women dressed in classical Chinese robes. Also another formation that looks like an old man crouching down.

Wonder on to the Wind Cave , named for the constant cooling breeze that blows through it. Thread along the platform and find yourself in the midst of a dark-tunnel laced with bats and black-nest swiftlets, listen closely and you might hear them echo. Shimmy through conical cavities separated by blade-like pinnacles of limestone, limestone pendants hanging from the roof of the cave passage.

After feeding your wanderlust, it’s time to feed your stomach. Lunch time.

After lunch, get acquainted with the cheeky red-haired man of the forest, orangutans! Venture out into the Semenggoh Orang Utan Centre to meet these characteristic apes in their natural habitat. You will be able to spend some-time with the elusive creature during feeding time on the platform. Visitors are also given an opportunity to further understand how the facility works as a rehabilitation centre, where most of the Orang Utans are orphans rescued from illegal animal poaching and injuries. Orangutans always steal the spotlight, but, there are also other wildlife roaming the area. Keep an ear out for the songs of wild birds and rehabilitated gibbons. It is difficult to guarantee the wildlife sightings, as they are in a vast area, however it is a sanctuary for an array of animals like porcupines, crocodiles and river terrapins

Back to your Kuching 4-Star Hotel.

Breakfast / Lunch Kuching 4-Star Hotel

[Flight] Kuching > Kota Kinabalu / Tamparuli Town / Nabalu Market / Kinabalu National Park / Poring Hot Spring

Your chapter in the Land of Hornbills ends, but the adventure continues in the Land Below the Wind, Sabah! Day 3 begins with you catching your flight to Kota Kinabalu City, locally known as KK, formally known as Deasoka (below the coconut tree), and famously known for its warm hospitality. Upon arrival, buckle up for a long drive in the morning as you will be whooshed straight into the countryside for your Kundasang tour.

After a couple of pitstops for handmade folk souvenirs and perhaps a taste of some exotic fruits, you will arrive at Malaysia’s first-ever UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark, Kinabalu National Park. Set at 1,500m above sea level, this 754sq kilometre park features one the Tallest Mountains in all of South East Asia as its centre piece, Mount Kinabalu—rising at 4.095.2m with cloud-hugging peaks that catch breath, enchants eyes and shading valleys below—certainly a sight to behold from Kinabalu National Park.

Next up, a guided tour of the botanic gardens to learn more about Kinabalu Park’s biological treasure trove—from carnivorous Pitcher Plants to rare Orchid species, the garden showcases a broad collection of endemic plant species found on all four of Mount Kinabalu’s unique climatic zones.

Depart for Poring Hot Spring for lunch. After lunch, it's time for a soothing sulphur bath. Take a dip in the all-natural mineral-rich hot springs surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. There is also a cold water pool nearby for those who prefer a cold dip.

Day 3  wraps up with an immersive exploration of Mount Kinabalu’s treetops. Poring’s Canopy Walkway now invites you to witness the grandeur a hundred million year old rainforest from a 175m length walkway suspended 60 meters above lush jungly tangles. Take in the sights and sounds and discover unique rainforest creatures from a bird’s eye view. Also, keep an eye out for some rare feathered beauties.

  • Stay warm! You may bring a sweater along with you as it can get a wee bit chilly up in Kinabalu Park.
  • Everyone needs a little bit of vitamin "sea"! Islands are one of Sabah's most sought after attractions, and they do tend to get a little bit crowded during the Weekends, Public Holidays, and Peak Seasons from July - August.
  • Before going out for some fun in the sun, you may bring along some SPF50 sunscreen and an umbrella to protect your skin.
  • For any Island tour, if you're interested in water sports (ie banana boat, seawalking, parasailing, etc), be sure to bring along a little bit of extra cash as these activities are not included in our tour package.

Local Walking Day Tours

Kuching tours on foot.

Fall in love with Sarawak’s capital, Kuching, on one of our walking tours. We will guide you through the bustling streets and recount you with stories about the enchanting architecture. Get a taste for our world-class street food, explore our local produce in the exciting markets, and cruise the Sarawak River in a traditional ‘sampan’ boat. Fire up the grill, don a chef’s hat, and cook up a storm in a guided cooking class. The local guides will show you the hidden gems of this historic city and make sure you leave your tour with your taste buds tingling and your mind open to new experiences! Kuching is a convenient city to do day trips from if you choose to do it yourself. We have written an extensive article on how here .

Kuching Free Walking Tour

Kuching walking tour & cooking class, a taste of sarawak: kuching food by foot, sampan, sunset, & tuak, reviews from our previous guests, tripadvisor, april 2023.

We went to Bako National Park on a private tour. Our guide, Alex, had an encyclopedic knowledge and was able to explain a lot to us about the fauna and flora of the park. Thanks to him, we were lucky enough to be able to observe proboscis monkeys there.

Tripadvisor, may 2023.

I went on the Kampung local bike tour and had an amazing time! Great sights, cultural experience and local food! Ask for Farhah and u will be well taken care of! She is a rare gem of a guide with a wealth of local knowledge and a pleasure to hang out with.

Another wonderful cycle trip around Kuching with the very impressive Farhah. She made the trip as the guides do. She was knowledgeable, friendly, competent and made our half day very memorable. My second trip with this company; I learnt more than before. To have a local, passionate about Sarawak and her culture is priceless. Bikes were good and temp super. Finding hidden gems and eating with locals , made the experience special. Thank you Farhar and thank you to all.

TripAdvisor, December 2023

A very well curated trip planned by Paradesa, we did multi day trip with them which included cycling, speed hiking & kayaking. This was all inclusive trip with some great home stays & amazing home cooked food & wine’s.

It was a great holiday thanks to the planning & efforts of Paradesa and more importantly Farah & Lester during the trip. Farah is very knowledgeable about this region & thanks to her network of friends we had such a blast..

Will always fondly remember this experience!

TripAdvisor, January 2023

We had a great morning out riding seeing the city. We received great service, had a very friendly guide who was extremely accommodating with our young family. Would highly recommend.

Tripadvisor, june 2023.

This is my second trip to Kuching and my second time booking day trips with Paradesa and they did not disappoint. On this trip, I had my 8 year old and my 70++ parents with me and we did the Semenggoh Orangutan Sanctuary & Annah Rais Longhouse Day trip and the Wetlands Cruise. On each occasion, the guides assigned were helpful, informative and attentive to our varying needs (young and elderly both taken care of).

CanadianTraveler23

I went on a great walking food tour with Delilah, who was an excellent guide. In addition to eating all manner of interesting goodies, from restaurants, street vendors and hawker courts, Delilah gave us a great historical and cultural look at Kuching too. Highly recommended. Skip breakfast and come empty!

Anke Derks ⎥ August 2019

Google my business.

No need to have a big breakfast before you go, because you will eat plenty of food during the tour and enough water is provided. We both eat vegetarian and also that was well taken care of. Kelvin is a great tour guide. He knows a lot and could answer almost all our questions.
