Day Trips: a convenient way to see Bali!

Bali is a large island. Depending on where you stay, you can find beaches, cliffs, rice fields, volcanoes, temples, lakes, hot springs or waterfalls in your proximity. The many options can be overwhelming. By booking guided tours in Bali, you will be able to see different regions across the island without switching accommodation all the time.

Starting point: your hotel!

Most tourists stay in the South of Bali, relatively close to the airport. The Bali tours below can pick you up in your hotel in Canggu , Seminyak , Nusa Dua or Ubud and drop you back home at the end of the day. Some of the options listed below can start from Uluwatu as well, but Uluwatu is further south, resulting in a longer drive to most nature sights in North and Central Bali.

Private Tour or Group Tour: We’ve listed both group tours and private day trips below. On your honeymoon, you might prefer a private experience with your partner. However sometimes it might as well be fun to meet other travels. Group tours are more economical , as you share your guide and ride with fellow travelers. Private tours can often be customized a little bit if you ask nicely, allowing you to have a personalized experience.

2. Ayung River Rafting Tour

Explore Bali from a river! A raft takes you down Ayung River, through rice fields and jungle in some of the greenest parts of Bali. You'll pass waterfalls and have the opportunity to swim in crystal clear waters. These are places that are not reachable any other way than by raft!

While there are definitely a few rougher parts, this is a beginner-friendly raft experience. A guide will join you on your boat and life vests are provided. Hotel pickup can be arranged, and a buffet lunch on the river banks is included in the price.

3. Day Trip to Nusa Penida Island

Visit Nusa Penida in a day! Nusa Penida is a tranquil island with spectacular cliffs and beaches, located in the Lombok Strait off the West coast of Bali. Reaching the island takes one hour by fast ferry from Sanur Harbour.

This convenient organized tour will pick you up and drop you off at your Bali hotel. Two-way ferry tickets are included, as well as a tour visiting the most spectacular sights on the island.

Highlights include the famous cliff overlooking Kelingking Beach (see picture), the clear perfect swimming waters at Angel's Billabong and the picturesque Crystal Bay, where white cliffs meet the rough Indian Ocean.

4. Mount Batur Sunrise Hike + Hot Springs

Hike up to Mount Batur for a spectacular sunrise with breakfast, and enjoy a well-deserved hot spring swim after your climb. An early wake-up, but well worth it!

To make it to sunrise at Mount Batur, you will be picked up at your hotel a few hours after midnight (depending on your start location). After a one-hour relatively easy climb, helped by an experienced guide and a flashlight on the helmet provided to you, you will reach the top of the volcano. On the top, a spectacular sunrise awaits you: slowly the sun will rise and reveal a spectacular landscape overlooking the Batur crater, Mount Agung, the Lombok Sea, and (on clear days) even Lombok Island and Mount Rinjani. After the climb, enjoy a well-deserved relaxation at the natural hotsprings bordering Batur Lake.

The region Kintamani, where Mount Batur is located, is famous for it's coffee plantations. On the way back, the tour will make a stop at a coffee plantation before dropping you back to your hotel.

5. Explore Ubud in a Day!

It is possible to see the best of Ubud and its surroundings in single day! This is a convenient way to see Ubud if you decide not to stay there overnight, but also a convenient option if you are actually staying in Ubud!

The list of included activities is really impressive. You will visit a spectacular waterfall and a traditional Balinese village near Ubud where traditional crafts are still practised. The famous Sacred Monkey Forest is part of the itinerary too, as well as the Tegallalang Rice Terraces. Finally, some spots in central Ubud are visited: the art market and Ubud Palace.

6. Instagram Highlights Tour

The Instagram Highlights tour is an amazing choice for (aspiring) influencers, but don't worry if you and your partner prefer to live a more private life: it is a great opportunity to see the most scenic parts of Bali and get some memorable pictures of your honeymoon regardless. You can choose between a small group tour and a private tour.

Highlights include the Lempuyang Temple (also known as Gate of Heaven) in East Bali, as well as the Tirta Gangga water palace. In Central Bali, the tour will pass the Tukad Cepung Waterfall and Tegallalang rice fields, where it is possible to take pictures on while riding a spectacular "Jungle Swing". 7. Munduk & Bedugul Day Trip

Ulan Danu Temple is the first picture that shows up if you Google Bali. It might be the most iconic sight on the island, situated against Lake Beratan in the Bedugul region of Bali. But this region has more to offer than just the temple, and this PRIVATE TOUR is a great way to explore it!

The Bedugul region can easily be spotted on any map: it's where you see the 3 lakes towards the north of the island. These lakes are part of a massive volcanic crater region at high altitudes. This results in very distinct vegetation and a much cooler climate than you will find in most of Bali. A great place to escape the heath!

One stop during this tour is the Handara Gate, which is a great spot for memorable Bali Honeymoon pictures. The pretty Banyumala Twin Waterfalls are next, there is opportunity to swim at these.

Finally this tour will stop at a very romantic spot: an amazing viewpoint on the ridge of the crater from where you can see two lakes at once. We love this area a lot, and would even recommend you staying here for a few days (see our Munduk Honeymoon Guide ), but this tour is also a great way to get to know the area!

8. Private Uluwatu Sunset Tour

Convenient option with hotel pickup. A private driver will pick you up at your hotel with his air-conditioned car, and show you around Uluwatu Temple overlooking the Indian Ocean and the traditional Balinese Kecak fire dance show (performance tickets not included). The stage and temple are located on a beautiful cliff from where you will experience one of Bali's best sunsets.

After sunset, the guide will drive you to Jimbaran Beach, a beautiful beach next to the fishing village of Jimbaran. This place is known for the freshest and tastiest grilled fish on the island. You will have time for a romantic dinner on the beach, before the driver will return you back to your hotel.

9. East Bali Waterfall, Beach and Canyoning tour.

A lot of water fun in a single day in the off-the-beaten path East Bali region. That is what this small group tour offers. You will be visiting a beautiful waterfall which is great for swimming (Tegenungan Waterfall), the scenic Blue Lagoon beach famous for snorkling (but also known for the monkeys roaming around), and a hidden canyon through which a river flows.

At the canyon, you will participate in canyoning activities, and at the Blue Lagoon Beach you will have the opportunity to snorkel with gear provided. Blue Lagoon Beach, near Padang Bai where the ferries to Lombok depart, is a fairly small beach, but we love it as it's surrounded by greenery and not very crowded.

10. Iljen Crater in Java (24-hour tour!)

The Iljen Crater is one of the most magical places we have ever visited, and a great trip for couples that love nature and hiking and are keen to explore a different island beyond Bali. The volcano is located on the east tip of Java Island (Indonesia's capital Jakarta is on that island too). Java can be reached by a 4 hour drive and 1 hour ferry from most tourist destinations in South Bali. It is the most populous island in the world with roughly 150 million inhabitants - but still it manages to offer amazing nature like this volcano!

The Iljen vocanic crater is famous for a blue fire that lights for a few hours in the middle of the night, followed by a spectacular sunrise overlooking the Java Sea and Bali a bit later. This tour will pick you up from your Bali hotel in the afternoon. You will arrive in the early evening and will be offered a room to sleep for a couple of hours (you will need that rest!). In the midst of the night you will start your ascent up to the crater's edge (this took us around 1.5 hours). If you want, you can then ascent into the crater (30 mins down and 30 mins up again) to get closer to the blue fire. This requires you wearing a gas mask that is provided by your tourguide. Later the sun will rise, revealing a spectacular landscape that was not visible during your initial ascent. After walking down again (way faster than the way up) you will enjoy a healthy Javanese breakfast before returning to Bali.

11. Plan your own tour with a private driver

Do you know exactly what you want to explore in Bali? Just hire a car with a private driver for a day and plan your own private tour. This is very easily arranged! Let a trusted driver with many 5-star reviews on GetYourGuide take you around the island.

You can choose a custom trip duration between 6, 8 and 10 hours. This will cost you between 48 to 80 USD for the entire group. This is an affordable option to explore the island. However, do note that while most guided tours are more expensive, these usually include amenities like entrance fees and lunch. When you plan your own tour, you will need to buy entrance tickets and lunch yourself!

TIP: This "tour" can start and end in any Bali location. You could even choose to start your day in one hotel, explore the island, and get dropped off at a new location, saving you additional taxi fees!

A trip to Bali is not complete without visiting Nusa Penida Island. Are you wondering how to get from Seminyak to Nusa Penida if you want to escape the bustling streets of Seminyak and have an amazing adventure?

Well, there are a few choices, but the best one is to go on a day trip to Nusa Penida, a beautiful island off the coast of Bali.

With its beautiful cliffs, white-sand beaches, and clear, blue waters full of sea life, Nusa Penida is a tropical paradise.

I hope this post will help you make the most of your day trip from Seminyak to Nusa Penida by taking you through the highlights of this fascinating place.

A Day Trip to Nusa Penida from Seminyak

To fall in love with Bali, you must leave the dirty beaches and touristy streets of places like Kuta and explore the (kind of) untouched nature of the islands in the middle and out to sea.

The best way to do that is to take a day trip to Nusa Penida. A day trip can be planned from most of Bali’s beach suburbs on the main island, like Kuta, Seminyak, and others.

Alternatively, you can book online at least one day ahead of time. You can make reservations online with a different of ferry companies.

It might not be the cheapest day trip in Bali, but it might be the most memorable. I would recommend booking through Klook . We never had any issues, and you can trust them.

How to Get to Nusa Penida from Seminyak

Most boats leave from Sanur Harbour, which is the best place to start your trip to Nusa Penida. Private and public boats look alike, so if you don’t have time to stay on the island for a few days like we did, I suggest you go on an epic day trip. It looks like there are two main-day trips.

BEST NUSA PENIDA DAY TRIP TOURS

These are the two most well-known Nusa Penida tours. We took the Bali Nusa Penida Tour, meeting at Sanur Harbour.

Please keep in mind that this only includes the ferry ride from Sanur to Nusa Penida. You will need to rent a motorcycle or private car to get around the island on your own.

• Nusa Penida Tour from Bali (Meet Up at Sanur Harbor). It is a popular day trip from Bali to Penida, with all the highlights.
• From Bali: Swim with Manta Rays in Nusa Penida. The most incredible experience was swimming with giant mantas.

The first tour is called the BEST Nusa Penida Tour from Bali (Meet Up at Sanur Harbor) , and it essentially covers all of the most famous beaches and viewpoints on both the Nusa Penida East Tour and the Nusa Penida West Tour in a single day, along with snorkelling opportunities. This is the one we took.

A DAY TRIP TO NUSA PENIDA: THE DETAILS

As long as you get to Sanur Harbour on time, getting on the ferry is pretty quick. We reserved our ferry tickets two days ahead of time, so we didn’t have to worry about finding the right tour on the spot. Instead, we went straight to the tour company to get our tickets.

(This tour did not operate in the same manner as other locations where you had to present your QR code before proceeding.) You will need to get a bracelet or ticket in person, and you will need to keep it safe until you get back to Sanur.

Otherwise, you might not be able to get on the ferry. Make sure you remember this, even if you book ahead of time.

Taking a Day Tour to Nusa Penida from Bali

Also, please remember that the Nusa Penida day trip tour we booked did not include getting to and from our hotel. Those things will need to be arranged separately. I suggest taking a Grab taxi or a scooter to get to Sanur Harbour.

The boat ride from Bali’s Sanur Harbour takes 30 minutes, so if you’re staying in Canggu, Seminyak, or Kuta, getting to Nusa Penida quickly for a day trip is easy.

We stayed in Ubud during our day trip to Nusa Penida, so we left our villa an hour early and got to the harbour by 8:45 am.

EXPLORING NUSA PENIDA: What you can expect to see on a Day Trip to Nusa Penida

We arrived early and reached Nusa Penida island by 10:15 a.m. You’ll have to explore the island on your own using a motorcycle or a private car once you get there.

Just keep in mind where the tour company spot is, and pay close attention to the time when you need to return to board the boat to return to Sanur Harbour.

The Best and cheapest way to have a great day trip on Nusa Penida

To get a better bargain, move a little further towards the waterfront boat stalls from the tour companies’ booths. Most importantly, you should know which side of Nusa Penida island you want to explore: the east or the west.

This will tell you how much a taxi or scooter ride will cost. If you don’t have experience riding, I don’t suggest getting a scooter because the roads on the island are a bit bumpy.

Do not think you can see both sides of the island in one day; that is impossible on a day trip. If you genuinely want an entirely immersive experience, you must choose one or the other. Most importantly, bring cash because Nusa Penida doesn’t have many ATMs.

Natural attractions of Nusa Penida

Kelingking beach.

You have probably seen a lot of pictures of Kelingking Beach on Instagram, even if you don’t use it. When you visit the viewpoint above the beach, you will understand why it’s a travel blogger’s dream location on Instagram.

However, it’s also a great place to visit for those who don’t feel the need to make their friends envious of their beautiful travel photos. It’s pretty amazing to look at, even in real life.

The path down to the beach wasn’t very safe, but most people, including my husband and me, were happy with the view from above. I wouldn’t suggest going down unless you are a fitness expert. It’s not for everyone.

After enjoying the breathtaking views of Kelingking Beach, we had lunch at one of the eateries that are close to the cliffs that overlook the shore.

There aren’t many restaurants around, so this is an excellent place to eat if you want to see the highlights of the side you’ve selected and save time. Naturally, Kelingking Beach is the first thing you see when you get there.

The next stops on our tour were Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong, located on the western side of Nusa Penida island (since we only saw this side of the island, I can only speak for the side we did visit, if that makes sense).

Our driver took us there. The fact that these two are in the same place and can be reached in five minutes is fantastic. There’s no reason to worry about driving in a hurry.

You would probably need an hour to see both and enjoy the incredible natural formations.

BROKEN BEACH

When you get to the places where Broken and Angel’s Billabong are, it’s up to you which one you would love to see first—they are 5 minutes apart! Broken Beach is on your left.

It looks like a round pond with the ocean rushing below a rock bridge.

The name comes from the way the rocks around this beach are shaped, which looks like an arch.

This arch-shaped thing looks like a hole in the wall at first glance, which makes it look like it’s broken.

It’s a great place to stroll around, but if you want to see more of the ocean, make sure to stroll around the nearby rocks.

You should know that there might be other tourists there depending on when you get there, so be ready to wait a little while to take pictures.

ANGEL’S BILLABONG

To the right of Broken Beach, around the coast, is Angel’s Billabong, a beautiful natural feature on Bali, Indonesia’s island of Nusa Penida.

This one-of-a-kind rock formation on the southwest coast of the island forms a peaceful natural infinity pool with a view of the huge Indian Ocean.

The pool’s clear water makes it a safe and peaceful place to swim at low tide, revealing a fascinating underwater world.

CRYSTAL BAY

Our day trip to Nusa Penida ended with a visit to Crystal Bay Beach. It looks like this is where most tours end, whether they are private or with a group.

If I’m being honest, though, this beach wasn’t very interesting. As you might guess, it was very crowded, and we didn’t like it at all.

There was no shade at all, but they did have sunbeds with umbrellas that I think you could rent.

At this point, though, you won’t have time to rest because you need to get back to where the tour company is on the harbour so they can take you back to Sunar.

We did go swimming, though, because it was too hot and we needed to cool off. They also have some simple shower rooms that cost less than £1 or $1.

This island, Nusa Penida, is one of the most beautiful spots in Bali. If you’ve read this far, you probably already know why you shouldn’t miss this place.

If you choose to go, you should know that it is a fantastic location for unwinding and taking in Indonesia’s breathtaking scenery.

To be allowed on the tour you must have travel insurance for the time you are on the trip. You will be asked for a printed copy of this by your group leader on arrival. You will not be permitted on the tour if you cannot produce a printed copy.

The size of our groups vary, but on will be no bigger than 10 people, aging from between 30 - 50. Exceptions can be made on request. Our tour encourages solo travellers as well as groups and couples so there is a good mix on our tour.

Yes, airport pick up can be arranged free of charge for those arriving on the start date or 1 day before. If you need to be picked up before this date this can be arranged. This will need to be paid locally to our driver and will be 250,000 IDR. How do I get back to the airport? You can catch a ferry back from Nusa Lembongan, the first ferry leaves at 8am and your ticket also includes a taxi to the airport once you get off the boat. Don’t worry though; your Group Leader can organize this.

All breakfasts and 1 dinner. The dinner is the food you cook at the cooking class – hope you are a good cook!

The tour finishes in Nusa Lembongan but we provide transport to all the main tourist areas in Bali including Kuta, Seminyak & the airport.

On the last day you can get the first boat back from Nusa Lembongan which goes at 8am. After the boat there is a car journey of maximum 1 hour. Taking into account you must be at the airport 2 hours before your flight we suggest no flights before 2pm.

No, unfortunately not, however we are happy to help you with advice on what flight you should get.

What Visa do I need? Pretty much all nationalities are granted a FREE 30 day tourist visa on arrival. If you wish to stay longer you will need to extend your visa at the local immigration office. To have this option you must pay for the VOA(cost $35 USD) and then ask an agent to extend. We can assist you with this. Do not overstay your visa as you will be fined 1 million IDR each day you overstay. The visa is 30days not one month. All the accommodation is handpicked upscale Resorts. We frequently check all accommodation to maintain the highest of standards.

All of the accommodation we stay in and restaurants we visit along our tour have access to good Wi-Fi. Although, there may be certain areas where Wi-Fi is slow, mainly on the islands (Gili T, Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Penida)

• For any tour departing before 7th May 2024 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after 7th May 2024, a minimum payment of €55 is required to confirm your booking with Bali Bucket List Tours. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 30 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
