Being a resident of Jamshedpur, I have always felt guilty that while I have visited various places in India, I have never paid a visit to Dalma Hill top in 20 years, which is just 40 km from my residence. So, it was decided that we, along with a family friend from Kolkata, would make a visit there in January 2018 and stay also at the forest rest house. Before that I thought that it would be better to have a look at the place before I book the accommodation and make a plan for couple of days. So, yesterday I decided to go there. And what a horrible drive it was!!!! It is not that I was expecting a highway; I have seen even worse and difficult roads in many of my trips to various places of Himalaya. But at the same time, you must keep in mind that Dalma Hill top is not at 10000 ft altitude, and this place is always projected as one of the topmost week end destinations. Then why should the road condition be like that? The State Govt. is collecting entry fee (Rs. 80) for vehicles, and a long stretch of 15 km is not even suitable for driving a small car!!! How many people can afford to go there with SUVs and other off-roader vehicles? If one has to hire a car for this journey, then that extra money is certainly not worth. If you go to Himalaya, you know that after a tough and troublesome journey, there is something heavenly waiting for you. But I am sorry to say that this journey is not rewarding at all. Right at the Hill top, there are couple of temples, for which one has to climb steep stairs. Near the Shiva temple, you will see a few huts of the local priests, and a few cows / buffaloes. The entire place is full of odour. The entire 15 km stretch is full of dust. How will you enjoy the nature? Not even a place for sitting with family and having picnic. Govt. is charging Rs 50 as camera fee also, but I could not even make a proper use of my camera which I carried there all the way. Please note that neither I am a mobile phone photographer, nor I started photography with the availability of some cheap and easy-to-handle digital camera. I am a serious nature photographer, and pursuing my hobby for last 30 years (long before the era of digital camera). A person like me, who carries everywhere his camera equipment bag weighing around 10 kg, and finds subjects almost everywhere and in everything (ranging from Himalaya to sea side, from birds to animals, from insects to railway engines … literally everything) could not take more than 5-6 photographs!!!! Forget about wild animals, I could not even see birds!!! A few monkeys were definitely kind enough to reveal their existence, but overall disappointing!!! The tourist rest house looks good. I was told that earlier it belonged to Tata Steel, and now it belongs to Jharkhand Forest Dept. Spending a night or two would not be a bad idea. But one has to carry all the raw material such as vegetable, chicken, fish, etc. and then get it cooked there. The cook will charge Rs 500 per day (for cooking 3 meals). An ideal example of total negligence. Hill area, green forest, etc. … ingradients are there. But Govt. is least bothered about making it a good tourist spot. If the 15 km drive is made comfortable for a pleasant weekend drive, it is fine. Otherwise it is not even worth taking the trouble. Enthusiastic people staying at Jamshedpur can go for a casual drive, but small cars like Alto/Eon etc. are not recommended. Indigo/Dzire are just OK, Bolero/Scorpio are the best options. Sightseeing from Ranchi or Ghatsila is not recommended; chance of disappointment would be too high. Forgot to mention that we met an aged gentleman, who went there with his two sons, with an aim of surveying that place before making a picnic visit with full family. They were also fully disappointed like us, and immediately dropped their plan of visiting there second time.

This is an excellent weekend destination. The rest house on top (Pinderbera) is remotely located .. and we avoided the stay there becasue we had children and mainly because we had to carry the ration and food for the cooking. The rest house do not maintain the necessary stocks for the guests. So we preferred the Makula Kocha cottages at the bottom. The cottages are beautiful with garden and play area for children. Really enjoying and in the middle of silent nature. The servicing stuffs are also very helpful. Food were good and cheap with limited options. Nearby deer park is also awesome. But there are some administrative problems which need attention from the govt or the forest department before getting worse. As we entered the cottage, there was no electricity. Inverters got discharged and the stuff said there is no oil in stock for the generator. Hence the trouble started .. no hot water for bath in winter or for making baby food. (We carried the immersion rod and electric kettles and thise are now of no use). So we had to request hot water from kitchen and it took long time. We were bit suprrised to see the electricity in nearby village and the found the game between govt departments .. some fault at site .. no one to fix for few days. Finally all the boarders paid the equal amount to buy the oil to run the generator for the night. The frustrated and irritated caretaker did his best to escalate, he was looking for local electritians to get it fixed and pay from his own rather than waiting for officials to visit and get it sorted. The escalation worked as the fault was fixed next day. The other evening the cook reported the LPG is finished and requested if we can help with our car to bring the cylinder .. otherwise it would be difficult to prepare the dinner. Again they left us with no options. We were 3 families together in 3 cottages with 4 children. There were no provision for extra pillows or quilts. So we had to manage again ... And the most annoying thing as we found there are more than 18-20 boarders in nonAC rooms whereas officially they can accomodate only 12 in 6 nonAC rooms. They continued playing loud music using car music player even well past midnight ... made the environment totally chaotic. When asked the head caretaker next morning he said ...what can I do sir, how can I fight with this is entire gang? Lliterally the stuffs were helpless and not sure why the govt is not paying more attention to protect such a beautiful property. Still I would say this is a pretty nice destination and hopefully things would improve and everybody will not face the same odds together. Just we had the tough luck in all senses 😢. We took a guide for the safari from Pinderbera. He guided us through the jungle roads and took us to the waterlands where the animals usually come to drink and play generally in summer. We did not see any animal but the ride was very charming. Again we found some local people were doing picnic and cooking inside which was "strictly prohibited" and illegal. So this tells story of the administration. But yet it is worth to spend couple of nights. Based on the preference or convenience you can either choose the top or bottom guest house. But a simple drive through to Dalma Top is just worthless. Nothing to see if you are not too religious to pay puja to shiva and hanuman temples. Overall 5⭐ for location, ambuence, stuffs and food. All the negatives for the government/ administrative ignorance and mismanagement related to the facility ... for which probably we have no one to blame!!!

Its large forest near jamshedpur. You go for safari. Elephant you see here. You may do night stay. Rooms are avilable.

We visited dalma wildlife sanctuary last week . We took gitanjali express from howrah and arrived tatanagar at 5.45 pm. We took a auto from there and as expected auto driver charged almost double to their normal fare. Normal Auto fare is rs 10/ person from station to bistupur. We had our reservation in Hotel Boulevard. But truly speaking thats a mistake one should stay in the guest house near dalma. I got a number of Mr Debu Ghosh (9852025400) from fb group. He is most helpful person from the whole trip. He arranged the car also lunch in guest house. One should contact him while going there. And about the Dalma we did not saw any wildlife there except lots of monkeys. But the view was spectaculars from the top of the hill. Lots og greenery.Must visit for nature lovers.

Trip To Dalma Hills

Photo of Sahil Sharma

Photo of Trip To Dalma Hills by Sahil Sharma

We grow up and enter the professional phase of lives with our head held high. All the enjoyments, belly laughs, hours long gossips with friends at tea stalls become outwardly things to do. Our plans for travels and adventure fade away with the increasing pace of life and all we are left with boring days, doing same outdated tasks again and again and making boss happy.

To get rid of the hangover of Professional life, we need to learn the art of disengagement. This Art of Disengagement lies on one simple thumb rule, viz taking break from our regular lives and disengaging ourselves from monotonous way of life.

Thus, to break the monotony I too decided to pack my bag, kick start my bike and get lost in panoramic beauty of nature which I had always wished for. I got convinced to this resort because with the monotonous way of life I was feeling like a passenger in moving bus who sits in and let himself be driven away with the pace of the bus. Moreover, the lucrative week offs were being spent by either washing the clothes or by lying on the bed whole day and doing noting productive. So here I begin to narrate a bike trip to exotic Dalma Hills along with my pal mate Deepak Singh.

Description of the place: The awe-inspiring Dalma Hills, with the elevation of 3000 feet above sea level, are located at the short distance of just 13 KM from the main city of Jamshedpur. Luxuriant and dense green forest of Dalma hills is a treat to eyes. The most attractive centre of Dalma Hills is a Dalma Wildlife sanctuary with its rich flora and fauna. Dalma wildlife sanctuary is a place for many spices of wild life like Barking Bears, Leopards, Elephants Tigers etc. At the top most point of Dalma hills and right at the middle of Wildlife Sanctuary, lies two temples; one of Lord Shiva and another one of Lord Hanuman. These two temple hold high importance for locals as a religious point of view. Even devotees from all over the state often pay their visits and seek divine blessings of Gods. Dimna Lake is one of another tourist attraction of Dalma hills which is located to the eastern side of Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary. The lake is surrounded by hills all around which makes is more attractive for the travellers. Panoramic views of Sunrise and sunset between the hills bring the shines in the eyes of viewers. Dimna Lake also has the provisions of boating and offers water sports like Rowing and Jet Skiing. A dam has also been built on the one side of lake and further attracts tourists when water of lake overflows and turns the dam into a waterfall during rainy season.

Trip Starts: My Bike trip started around 0930 hrs. from Mango, a town at the outskirts of city Jamshedpur. Deepak and me both packed our bag pack, carried water bottles and some wafers and hurried of. We did not decide where we had to head to. The only Place we knew was a peak of Dalma hills which we daily used to watch at from the balcony of Deepak’s apartment. Exploring the lush green hills, we made our first halt at Dimna lake which was situated between the hills from all the sides. The lake was at the 10 minutes’ drive from our starting point. We both were astonished seeing the vista the lake. We parked our bike near the dam and went for a walk over it. Owing to winter season, no water was flowing over it, though it offered a firm and safe walking track to cherish the loveliness of the lake. The fishes in the lake were playing in the water as if they were welcoming the visitors. The water of the lake; pristine and fresh was acting as the mirror for the sky. The lake was large water body as it had few islands under it. One island in Dimna lake made me recall my visit to Dal Lake many years ago which also had one similar island called ‘Char Chinar’. The island derived its name “Char Chinar” from the four Chinar (famous tree of Kashmir) trees grown over it.

we spent half an hour on the lake side before hunting for other exquisite places across the hills. Our next target was to scale the highest visible peak either by hiking or by off-road biking (if possible). We first inquired from the locals if there was viable route to the hilltop but, it was still a tedious job for both of us to get the clear ideas about the track. It was only after driving aimlessly for 3 to 4 miles till Pardih (a small village) that we were shown the right road by a friendly stranger. Now, in front of us was a straight 7 KM long stretch of NH 33 up to link road to the top most point of the Hill. It took us almost 15 minutes to reach the link road and interestingly, the link road was also the starting point of the way to Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary.

The off road to hilltop was almost 21 KM long and was a kuccha road covered by the dense cover of forest on both sides.

Both Deepak and I were not aware of the other beautiful components of Wildlife Sanctuary, thus, we decided to explore other picturesque landscapes once we reached the Hilltop. Deepak was driving the bike so I had the advantage to freely capture the aesthetics of the Wildlife Sanctuary. En route, we came across real wild beauties, some careless monkeys jumping like pro from one tree to another, few shy deer trying to flee away from the eyes of the walkers and peacocks roaming all alone as well.

Within an hour we were at the top of the hill of which I wished every time I used to look at the peak from the balcony of Deepak’s apartment. The feelings of reaching at the top most point was inexplicable. We found ourselves at the top of the world as everything we could see was below to us. Even nearby imposing hills could not match our heights.

We parked our bike near Lord Hanuman temple and went to say spiritual thanks to the lord for giving us the strength to reach where we were that time. Beside the temple, a view point was erect to treat to one’s eyes by providing a platform to look all around the Sanctuary in a one go. Astonishingly there was no lack of mobile network at the peak. So we opened the Google map to look for other ethereal sites in the surroundings. From the Google map we came to know that there were three lakes and one waterfall in the Sanctuary. The three lake were named as Lower Lake, Middle lake and upper lake respectively (as shown in Google Map) and the name of the waterfall was Bijli Ghati waterfall (original Name). We did not have much time to explore all the three lakes so we decided to proceed for middle lake and Bijli Ghati waterfall. The lake was small though, it was being frequently visited by elephants for drinking and bathing purposes (as told by locals).

The next destination we were left with was Bijli Ghati Waterfall which was near to middle lake and it took us ten minutes to reach the Hotspot. Initially we couldn’t be able to dig though the waterfall but the melodious sound of water hitting the ground gave us a clear clue and we were like “yes…! We found an another party place.” The waterfall wasn’t that huge but it had carried the same soothing capacity when compared to other famous waterfalls.

The presence of waterfall added a lot to the beauty of forest. There was a sweet intoxication in the air which blew away our tiredness. The salubrious environment had supernatural healing powers.

We, then went little downward to further navigate other interesting components of the waterfall. What added fuel to the fire was the platform where could take bath freely. I had always liked bathing at such places so without wasting time, I took off my clothes and rushed to platform. The pleasure bathing under the waterfall was amazing. Deepak and I kept on bathing under the natural shower. We wore clothes again after getting done with bating. I started to feel hungry as it was 2 PM on the clock so we decided to move back home quickly.

Sometimes miracles happen in a most unexpected way and, on our way back, we were awestruck seeing two giant Elephants coming towards our way. They both seemed to be couple the way they were complementing each other with gestures. sometimes they were greeting each other by inter-twinning their trunks and reacting in the same way which gave me the cue that they were communicating with each other. The delight of watching wild elephants had no substitution. They quickly faded away in the jungle before we could catch them in our mobiles. We too did not chase them and decided to move back home as early as possible.

Life is full of surprises only if we give ourselves a chance. The visit to Dalma hills was a complete surprise package for both of us. All our way we were encountering with exceptional and unexpected things. First came the beautiful lake, then came the Wildlife Sanctuary and last but not the least came the Jumbo surprise Even the journey with the bike was not less than anything. The beauty of the Dalma Hills is beyond any explanation and still i tried to pen down it because I felt the urge to put forth my experience for the readers so that they get few glimpses of the hills. I suggest all of you to pay a visit to Dalma hills as it has lot more beautiful things to be explored.

I look forward to healthy suggestion from your side.

Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, Jamshedpur Overview

Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for its forest tourism, but to the residents, it is more familiar because of its wild resident elephants. 'Dalma Haathi' or the 'Elephants of Dalma' is a known and quite fearful term in the Jamshedpur-Puruliya region. Established in 1975 and inaugurated by Sanjay Gandhi, the Dalma forest is home to a horde of animals, birds and tree species as well. Overlooking the shimmering Subarnarekha River, the Dalma hills nestle the dense green forests like an offspring. This ambience of the forest and the odd chance of having a glimpse at the wild animals is what makes Dalma so special among those who love to travel around jungles.

Once an untamed natural beauty for acres after acres, parts of this wild forest got shunted when the steel plant was established by JN Tata near the Kharkai-Subarnarekha confluence. However, whatever remains is still large enough to be a paradise for all the native Indian flora and fauna you can think of. Many elephants migrate to this forest every year adding to the crowd, and sometimes they come out into the local villages and suburbs. Travellers wishing to explore a slice of one of India's most authentic forests can take a drive through or even better - spend a night at the rest houses and bamboo huts offered by the forest department. There is nothing better for a nature lover than to spend a night listening to the crickets, the distant, solitary howl of a wild creature and the otherwise overwhelming silence. Among the few true-blue forests of India, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary offers excellent bird watching experience, exciting in-jungle lodging and spectacular view from atop the Dalma peak which also has a couple of temples you can visit.

Tour location.

Dalma Hills are situated at a distance of approx 13 km from Jamshedpur and is one of the most frequented tourist destinations in the land. It is situated at an altitude of 3000 ft.  The views from the hills are breathtaking.

The dense forests, wildlife sanctuary and Lord Shiva temple attract tourists in great numbers. Trekking and rock climbing are two activities that adventure enthusiasts can engage in. Winter is the ideal season to visit.

Close to Jamshedpur, the Dalma Sanctuary is the best elephant habitat in Jharkhand. The pachyderms love to spend their summer here. Unlike Palamau that usually reels under a scorching sun, it continues to be pleasant at Dalma with temperatures mostly under 300C. Elephants migrate to this sanctuary because of the availability of water during summer. The next best choice for getting the closest possible view of elephants is the Betla National Park, and the most appropriate time for doing this would be Feb-March.

Ayodhya Hills: The Ultimate Guide to Purulia Tour

Ayodhya Hills

Looking for a weekend getaway from Kolkata? How about an untapped hill at a distance of only 250 km from Kolkata? I am introducing you to the Ayodhya Hills in Purulia, West Bengal. The Purulia tour is a great idea if you want a short road trip from Kolkata.

Ayodhya Hills or অযোধ্যাপাহাড় are one of the most popular destinations in Purulia. It is a 700-metre-high plateau, the easternmost part of the Chhotanagpur Plateau and an extended region of the Eastern Ghats.

Being part of the Dalma Mountain Range, it is surrounded by lush green forests, beautiful waterfalls and tribal villages. The slopes have narrow streams and springs which lead to Subarnarekha in the west and Kangsabati & Kumari in the north.

This culturally rich place has preserved its natural beauty which makes it a peaceful as well as fun weekend destination for you. Let’s see what you can include in your little itinerary.

Nearby Attractions: A Purulia Tour from Ayodhya

Most tourist spots are actually near Ayodhya Pahar. These include beautiful lakes & dams, untapped waterfalls, lush green forests & hills and culturally-rich tribal villages.

So, let’s look at the best spots that can make you forget your busy life.

Waterfalls, Lakes & Dams

Among the water bodies, the following are a must-watch:

  • Bamni Falls: Located at 434 metres above sea level, this beautiful waterfall leads to a lake. However, there are approximately 800 rough steps to the lake. So, climbing down would interest you only if you love adventure!
  • The Turga Dam and The Turga Falls: This is located at 284 metres above sea level. The beauty of this spot is something you should capture in your camera.
  • Khairaberia Dam: This irrigation dam is at the foot of Chemto and Barra Hills. It leads to the Khaira river. You’ll enjoy the beauty best during spring, when the red Palash flowers bloom and surround the area.

Some other lakes and falls to look at are:

  • Tarapaniya Lake

  • Mayur Hills: Located at 605 metre above sea level, this hill has plenty of Sal, pine and silk cotton trees. If you want a panoramic view of the entire range of Ayodhya Hills, this is the right spot to visit. You should stay over to see the beautiful sunset transform to a romantic moonlit night.
  • Pakhi Pahar: Also known as the Murra Buru hill, this place is known for rock paintings of birds. Of course, there are real birds to watch too! Not only will you find peacocks, there are wild animals like deer, leopards and boars too.

You can also take a short trip to Dalma Pahar and Chamtaburu Hill.

What Should You Not Miss at the Ayodhya Hills?

While you’re at the Ayodhya Hills, there are some places you shouldn’t miss visiting:

  • The Sita Kunda: This mythological destination has an interesting story behind its beauty. It is a spring that was created by Lord Ram to quench Sita’s thirst. He shot an arrow on the earth’s crust from which water gushed out. The Santhals drink water from here every year on full moon day, followed by which they indulge in hunting.
  • Gorshabru: This is the highest peak of Ayodhya Hills at a height of 868.68 metres. Enjoy the beauty of dense forests, mesmerizing waterfalls and welcoming tribal villages here. The panoramic view of hills is something you should capture before you leave.
  • Upper & Lower Ayodhya Dam: These dams are a part of the Purulia Pumped Storage Project, set up to generate hydroelectricity. Water flows fromthe upper dam at a height of 495 metresto the lower dam at 300 metres. Its capacity is 900 MW (4 x 225 MW).

Apart from sight-seeing on Purulia tour, shopping and entertainment, this place is also very good for rock climbing, trekking and hiking. So, adventure lovers, peace lovers, nature lovers and photographers – all can have a memorable experience here.

  • Car: Of course, if you love driving, it is the best option to choose. You can take the State Highway 5 and Bagmundi via Kharagpur and Balarampur. You can even go via Durgapur.

When to Visit Purulia?

Of course, you’ll love travelling the most when the weather is pleasant and the surroundings are in their best form. Commonly, the period between September-March is the ideal time to travel.

However, if I were to shortlist even from here, there are 2 options for you:

  • Early October: That is just after the monsoon when it is greener and the Kash Phool blooms. Also, the winds are cool and pleasant which make travel even more soothing.
  • February-March: This is actually spring time, when the Palash flowers bloom and create a red carpet on the green surroundings. The sky is clear and the wind is chilly as winter is about to leave.

Purulia tour are gaining popularity among people living in Kolkata for a short tour in West Bengal. After a tiring and stressful week, who wouldn’t like such a weekend getaway from Kolkata?

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
