LIV Golf's Party Plane Has Players Touring in Style: See Inside the Jet

This all-inclusive private plane shuttles liv golfers and their caddies around the globe in style with a full-stocked open bar and queen's 'we are the champions' blaring, published july 8, 2022.

Once you get a taste of the private plane life, it's hard to go back to flying economy.

Such is the case with LIV golfers who showed off the interior of the tour's all-inclusive, party jet earlier this week and showed no signs of regretting their decision to leave the PGA Tour .

American golfer Pat Perez, who recently signed with LIV Golf, sang Queen's "We Are The Champions" and raised up both his hands in a sign of true celebration.

Perez wasn't the only American golfer making the most of the LIV party plane.

In photos and video posted on social media Thursday, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson can be seen taking advantage of the private jet life -- ordering drinks at the plane's open bar.

Do LIV caddies travel for free?

LIV golfers were joined by their caddies aboard the flight -- one of the tour's many amenities.

LIV Golf covers travel and accommodations for all of its 48 players and their respective caddies.

The money train doesn't stop there, though. Agents and coaches are also covered.

And, with no cut, a golfer can shoot eight over par each round and still net around $120,000 for the week like Andy Ogletree did at Pumpkin Ridge last week.

When is the next LIV golf event?

The next stop on the LIV Golf tour is Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

The tournament will run from Friday, July 29, through Sunday, July 31, and will feature LIV's standard format -- 48 players broken down into 12 teams, playing 54 holes without cuts and starting shotgun style.

Here are some notable American golfers expected to compete in the 2022 LIV Golf Bedminster event:

  • Dustin Johnson
  • Brooks Koepka
  • Bryson DeChambeau
  • Phil Mickelson
  • Patrick Reed
  • Talor Gooch

The epic LIV Golf party plane might be the biggest reason players are leaving the PGA Tour

Obviously, we kid. These guys are leaving the PGA Tour for LIV Golf because they're being handed big bags of cash. That being said, it doesn't hurt that they're flying around on a giant party plane.

RELATED: Billy Horschel doesn't hold back blasting LIV Golf 'hypocrites'

We've heard about the amenities this renegade tour is offering for players and caddies, and we've seen some snippets. But these images (video was taken down after this post) best encapsulates what LIVing la vida loca is all about. Billy Horschel better look away:

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2022/1/image.png

First of all, you have Pat Perez dancing around this spacious cabin while "We are the Champions" plays because he pocketed nearly $1 million for being on the winning team despite shooting a final-round 80. You think anyone who shot 80 on the PGA Tour last week is doing that? Pat said signing a deal with LIV was like "winning the lottery" and it certainly looks that way.

That plane is absolutely ridiculous. It's like riding around in a luxury lounge in the sky. There's a full bar. Tables with piles of food. Plenty of room to mingle. Heck, even the ceilings look amazing!

You've got Dustin Johnson walking around/ignoring Perez. You've got Brooks Koepka and Jena Sims comfortably seated at a table. It's quite a scene. But it all goes back to the plane. Here's another look:

OK, so there are regular seats on that bad boy as well, but who needs them when you are LIVing, am I right?

LIV Golf is all about the money.

Players have received signing bonuses in the hundred of millions of dollars. Bryson DeChambeau confirmed last week that his deal with the Saudi-backed, Greg Norman-led breakaway league is north of $125 million .

The winners of their events go home with $4 million. The players who finish last still earn more than $100,000.

And it seems they aren’t closing their checkbooks anytime soon.

Video posted on social media showing the inside of a plane LIV provided to its players is absolutely insane. A fully-stocked bar, a lounge area, and enough room to get in a game of flag football.

With “We Are the Champions” blasting over the speakers, Pat Perez soaks in the lavish lifestyle he and fellow ex-PGA Tour players are living.

The next LIV Golf event is at the end of July in New Jersey.

Pat Perez celebrating his team's victory at the LIV Golf Invitational Portland

If you have been wondering why some of the best golfers in the world are signing on with the newly launched LIV Golf Invitational Series , this video that surfaced after the second event in Portland may go some way towards providing an explanation.

While they certainly won't garner any sympathy for how the game's traditional tours took care of them, the level of pampering seems to have gone up exponentially for players and caddies who have jumped ship to the Saudi-backed circuit.

What is LIV Golf?

Despite shooting 80 in the third and final round, Pat Perez could be seen celebrating on LIV Golf's incredible private jet to a backdrop of "We Are The Champions" by Queen, after he and his fellow members of the 4 Aces GC team all pocketed a share of the $3 million first prize.

In total, Perez left Pumpkin Ridge $900,000 better off despite finishing in a tie for 29th in the 48-man individual event, 19 shots behind winner Branden Grace .

Perez was one of a number of players to join the Greg Norman-fronted venture before the second of eight events on the 2022 schedule. Ahead of his debut, the 46-year-old compared it to "winning the lottery", with last place guaranteed at least $120,000. By comparison, that is more than a 24th-place finish is set to pay out at next week's Open Championship at St Andrews.

In addition to the money on offer, players and their teams are all treated like royalty. Ashley Perez, Pat's wife, gave an insight into the scene on-board the LIV Golf private jet that left Oregon.

LIV golf truth exposed as 'absurd' private jet footage emerges

Stunning new footage has emerged of the ‘absurd’ private jet being used to transport players on the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour.

The video, posted on the Tik Tok account of South African golfer Michael Farley, shows LIV players Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Pat Perez among others, enjoying the opulent surrounds of the luxury plane.

Ironically, Perez shot a final round 80 as he finished 29th out of 48 players at the second LIV Golf event at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Oregon last week.

Despite a sub-par individual performance, the 46-year-old still walked away with the tidy sum of USD $900,000 by virtue of being on the winning team alongside Johnson, Patrick Reed and Taylor Gooch.

Farley included text on the video, which has since been removed, stating that the private jet was for LIV Golf players and caddies. PGA Tour golfers have traditionally paid for their own travel, as well as that of their caddies, for Tour events.

LIV Golf series sparing no expense

With exorbitant signing bonuses (Johnson alone was reportedly paid USD $150 million to join LIV Golf), minimum prize money of $100,000 for each LIV event and travel costs covered, it appears there is no expense being spared on the rebel tour.

Some LIV caddies are reportedly earning even more than most professional golfers, while flying around in what is essentially the equivalent of a luxury lounge in the sky.

A lavish dining area and fully-stocked bar are among the visible features of the plane’s cabin shown in the footage.

Reports suggest the aircraft is a USD $320 million Boeing 777-200 LR equipped with seven-foot ceilings, game tables, reclining leather seats, USD $500 Italian-made pillows, cashmere blankets and 24-inch Panasonic HDTVs for each passenger. It costs USD $50,000 an hour to rent.

The LIV Golf Tour has been mired in controversy since its inception, with accusations of ‘sports washing’ being directed at its Saudi backers.

However, Saudi Arabia’s questionable human rights record has not stopped some of golf’s biggest names leaving the PGA Tour in favour of the new venture.

Phil Mickelson was reportedly paid about USD $200 million to join, while Bryson DeChambeau is said to have picked up USD $125 million.

Not everyone has succumbed to the Saudi’s riches, however, with Tiger Woods apparently turning down an eye-watering sum in the region of USD $1 billion to come on board.

The PGA Tour has since taken action against those who made the switch to play on the LIV Golf Tour, suspending them indefinitely from all PGA events.

Video has emerged from inside the 'absurd' private jet being used to fly players on the LIV Golf tour around the world.

The video, posted to TikTok by South African golfer Michael Farley, shows LIV players Dustin Johnson , Brooks Koepka and Pat Perez swanning around the jet, which reportedly costs $73,000 an hour to hire.

The focus of the video is Perez' rousing rendition of Queen's classic We Are The Champions.

Despite shooting 80 in the final round at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club last week, Perez's teammates Johnson, Patrick Reed and Talor Gooch played well enough to carry him to victory in the teams event. He pocketed more than $1 million.

In the original video, Farley included text saying the jet was for both players and caddies on the LIV Golf tour. Players on the PGA tour have traditionally paid for their own travel, as well as that of their caddies.

Some LIV caddies are reportedly making more than players on the PGA tour.

A fully-stocked bar and dinging area are among the features of the plane's cabin visible in the footage.

Look: LIV provides golfers with incredible private airplane

Pat Perez on a LIV Golf private plane

Several of the top golfers in the world have left the PGA Tour to sign with the new LIV Golf series, and there is one primary reason they all made the jump — money. The Saudi-backed league has seemingly endless financial backing. There may be no better example of that than the private jet LIV has provided for its players.

A video that surfaced on social media this week showed the inside of the plane LIV golfers and their families have been using to travel the world. If not for the windows, you would probably think they were inside some sort of exclusive nightclub.

In case you are wondering, that was Pat Perez strutting around like he was on his own planet enjoying Queen’s “We Are the Champions.” Dustin Johnson was the person who walked in front of Perez.

Perez has perhaps been most outspoken when it comes to admitting he followed the money. The 46-year-old wore a button-down shirt with dollar bills all over it to the LIV Golf pro-am party in Oregon last week. He just earned $900,000 by tying for 29th place in the most recent LIV event.

We have seen some PGA Tour players blast their peers for the way they went about joining LIV Golf , but Perez and others don’t seem to care. Now that you have seen the inside of their private plane, you probably have a better understanding of why that is.

Talk about living the lavish life.

New video footage appears to show Dustin Johnson and Pat Perez aboard LIV Golf’s luxury private jet, which includes a lounge area and a fully-stocked bar. Normally, players fly to tournaments on their own, but LIV Golf has been providing luxury travel to its tournaments.

In the clip, shared to Instagram on Thursday by Zire Golf, Perez can be seen walking around, holding his cap while the song “We Are The Champions” plays.

Perez was likely celebrating his $900,000 payday, despite shooting an 80 in the final round to finish T-29 at 8-over-par last weekend. But his team, which included Johnson, Patrick Reed and Talor Gooch, finished in first, which netted them $3 million split between the four players in the second tournament of the LIV Golf season at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon.

The 46-year-old pro signed a four-year deal to play with LIV Golf after more than 20 years on the PGA Tour, and said it was like “winning the lottery.” Perez also sported a collared shirt with $100 bills on it at LIV Golf’s welcome party prior to the tournament.

Johnson, meanwhile, was filmed walking past Perez on the plane, while Brooks Koepka and others mingled by the bar and sat at dining tables. Johnson reportedly received $125 million to leave the PGA Tour for LIV.

The aircraft, which features cream-colored interior, also includes snack tables and large screens on the back of each spacious seat.

Footage from inside the extravagant Boeing 777 Crystal Skye party plane emerged via a TikTok video.

The LIV's controversial stars enjoyed a party on-board the tour's lavish private jet

It operates charter flights for the controversial LIV Golf series - and last night a host of stars got to party on it.

The rebel tour has sparked civil war in the sport, with players who have signed up facing PGA sanctions after accepting the huge sums of money to switch.

However, a host of the tour’s golfers, caddies and companions did not seem to have a care in the world as they were captured enjoying all the jet had to offer.

They were even filmed singing Queen's hit song “We are the Champions” to leave social media followers in shock.

Jena Sims, who is married to Brooks Koepka, was spotted partying with her fella in the clip.

The American, a two-time US Open winner, agreed to join the LIV circuit last month.

Dustin Johnson , 38, was also on-board for the bash as Pat Perez celebrated being a part of the Saudi-backed tour.

The 46-year-old was caught belting out the Queen anthem as the camera panned around the aircraft.

How the PGA Tour, LIV Golf shockingly came together to change pro golf

Editor’s Note: This story is included in The Athletic’s Best of 2023. View the full list .

In the end, after all the talk, from all the voices, all around the world, the future of professional golf was decided by two men measuring each other’s leverage.

There’s perhaps never been a more jarring clandestine affair. Who could’ve seen this coming? About two months ago, PGA Tour policy board members Jimmy Dunne and Ed Herlihy began speaking with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the Governor of the Saudi Arabian government-owned Public Investment Fund . After those initial conversations, Dunne and Herlihy connected Al-Rumayyan with PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan. The two spoke. Then they met in Venice, sitting down together in northern Italy, perhaps on a gondola. Monahan began trusting al-Rumayyan “10 minutes after sitting down with him,” the former later recalled. Soon after, the two met again in London, this time for lunch and golf.

A deal was struck.

It all happened so fast.

So fast that, they forgot to tell anyone.

Tuesday was unlike any other in golf history. In a snap, without warning, the entire professional sport changed both structurally and fundamentally. The PGA Tour is partnering with an entity it once stood in proud contrast to. The PIF (and with it, the Saudi Arabian government) is investing in the PGA Tour , pumping multiple billions of dollars into the tour’s coffers, and forming a new partnership with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, a partnership that will end golf’s multi-year turf war.

Read more: The LIV Golf, PGA Tour merger and the craziest day in golf history, explained

No one outside of the initial parties knew what was coming. That includes LIV Golf frontman Greg Norman. That includes PGA Tour loyalists Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. When Monahan spoke to reporters on Tuesday night, roughly seven hours after the original news break, Monahan said: “Now that we’re in a framework agreement. I look forward to talking to all of our players, including them, to make certain that this comes off the right way.”

Monahan used that expression repeatedly. Framework agreement. A means to say nothing is final, nothing is official, but we’re definitely seeing each other.

And no one has any idea how to make any sense of this.

Was it all fake? Or is this all just evidence that money can dissuade any principle? On the shock of Jay Monahan and the PGA Tour merging with LIV, the hypocrisy involved and the reminder that money always wins. https://t.co/Kep8kfZE92 — Brody Miller (@BrodyAMiller) June 6, 2023

Be clear: The PGA Tour needed money. Lots of it. Money to boost tournament purses and bonus money to compete with what the PIF pumped into LIV for its players’ guaranteed contracts. Money to employ an army of lawyers to battle LIV in court and counter an ongoing DOJ investigation. Money to subsidize its partners at the DP World Tour and their legal fees.

As things stood, after tapping into reserve funds to survive the pandemic, then rebuilding those funds, the tour, Monahan said, “had to invest back in our business through our reserves” in 2023 and was set to do so again in 2024 to survive. A precarious situation. The PGA Tour’s most recent television contract was signed in 2020, before golf’s turf war arose, and could never have been projected to account for the soaring costs. The deal was believed to be worth about $700 million per year and roughly $2.7 billion between 2022 through 2030. Those look like paltry figures in a post-LIV world.

Nevertheless, the tour continued to leverage its product, creating elevated events and bonuses to funnel more money to its biggest stars. It also postured itself as being well-equipped to both attain sustainability and, following LIV’s initial blitz of acquiring stars like Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson, survive a cold war and wait out LIV’s demise.

Perhaps lost in the shuffle was how anyone was going to pay for that survival.

The PGA Tour’s talking point now is that the PIF is neither merging with the PGA Tour, nor buying the PGA Tour, but investing in the PGA Tour.

Critics will say that, when it comes to the Saudi’s human rights record, it doesn’t make a difference.

And PGA Tour players will tell you, they were clueless that any of this was coming, and feel betrayed.

go-deeper

Power, privilege and risk: The life of golf's most powerful man Yasir Al-Rumayyan

Monahan says, essentially, there was no other choice.

“The PIF was controlling LIV, and we were competing against LIV,” Monahan said Tuesday. “I felt very good about the changes we’d made and the position that we’re in, but ultimately to take the competitor off of the board, to have them exist as a partner — not an owner — and for us to be able to control the direction going forward, put us in a position as the PGA Tour to serve our members, and at the same time, get to a productive position for the game at large.”

Monahan argued that the “much bigger play here” is creating an entity that reinvests dollars in growth businesses, something the tour had been unable to do as a 501(c)(6) tax-exempt organization. That is, even as the tour itself will remain tax-exempt.

You read that right. While the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and the PIF’s golf-related holding (i.e. LIV Golf) work together in a new, collectively owned, for-profit entity, the tour plans to do this all while retaining its not-for-profit, tax-exempt status. Whether the federal government agrees with that remains to be seen.

In theory, the tour gets to maintain control and attain absolute financial security.

But at what cost? Much of the reaction around the tour Tuesday was of surprise that things were at a point where this was necessary. Many were under the impression that the tour was winning the fight with LIV both in the legal system and as a product. LIV departures had dwindled and rumors of the venture’s dire financial picture have swirled. The legal battle between the tour and LIV was creating additional headaches for the PIF.  The Saudis claim in court that al-Rumayan was a “sitting minister of government with sovereign immunity” triggered the English Premier League to re-examine the PIF’s ownership of Newcastle United .

Monahan, meanwhile, has always preached the long game. In a conversation with The Athletic last August at the Tour Championship, he repeated an idea he’s long said to tour players: “Things are not won in soundbites. Things are not in individual moves. You win over the long haul. You win by keeping people inspired, learning every step of the way, and understand you don’t have every answer.”

Many were trying to square words like that with what was said Tuesday.

Late in the day, Monahan addressed tour players during a contentious meeting at the Canadian Open. One agent with multiple players in the room described there being “varying degrees of confusion and anger and sadness.” The anger was directed at Monahan, squarely. Tour players declined lucrative offers from LIV Golf while being sold on the ideals of loyalty to the PGA Tour. It’s unclear if those individuals will be compensated in any way. Many in the room were most angry by the idea of defectors to LIV being granted reentry to the tour, something Monahan previously vowed to never allow.

“It probably didn’t seem this way to them, but as I looked to our players, those players that have been loyal to the PGA Tour, I’m confident that the move that they’ve made the right decision,” Monahan said to reporters after the players meeting. “They’ve helped rearchitect the future of the PGA Tour. They’ve moved us to a more pro-competitive model.”

Players in the closed meeting were told the tour is receiving upwards of $2-3 billion, all litigation ending and LIV likely going away, according to an industry source briefed on the matter and granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

While some inside the tour spoke Tuesday of a measure of survival, others wondered if the tour’s deal with the Public Investment Fund is, in fact, the opposite. A move of aggression, not desperation. With billions of new dollars flowing in, the tour is now in a position to grow and perhaps become an even more centralized force in golf, whether that’s by acquiring an entity like the PGA of America (and full control of the Ryder Cup) or the LPGA Tour. In its previous financial state, such ideas were an impossibility.

Was this the play or a forced hand?

Was this done out of fear? Fear of the tour having to open up its books in the discovery process in the courts? Fear of financial instability? Fear of what was coming next?

Or was it an act of survival? Why fight a rival when you can take its funding?

Or was it simply the oldest love story there is? How the rich get richer.

The reality is that, no matter what Monahan says, this is a different PGA Tour. There’s no turning back from this. Al-Rumayyan will join the PGA Tour Policy Board and has already stated that more billions of investment will be available. No one will say no to that money. The players will get paid, maybe even get a taste of revenue sharing — make more and more. In time, the more the PIF invests, the more it will control. In more time, leadership will change, board seats will change. More control. Eventually, this will be what the Public Investment Fund wants.

A natural question in the aftermath of all this has been what will become of LIV.

The question feels irrelevant because what’s the difference anymore?

The PGA Tour, after a seven-week dalliance, has become something else. Something it once desperately wanted not to be.

The LIV Tour's Party Plane Looks Like An Incredible Way To LIV It Up

I completely understand you're sick and tired of LIV Tour posts, but, because I've spent nearly 15 years blogging on the Internet, I know you want to see how the players are LIVing now that they have that Saudi golf league money. You loved MTV Cribs back in the day. You click on Athlete Real Estate posts that I pump out. And now you're here to see inside the private jet that is flying LIV Tour players and caddies -- and wives/girlfriends -- around the world while burning through that Saudi jet fuel, that Saudi liquor bill, and that Saudi food tab. Yep, these guys are LIVing large. Confirmed.

Instagram aviation experts say this is a Boeing 777-200. It's unclear if this is from Saudi's fleet of 777s -- they reportedly ordered seven 777-300s in May to fly freight -- and it doesn't matter, but it's interesting to see these monster planes that are now flying guys around with the intended purpose of crushing the PGA Tour. The political nerds have their eyes on Russia-Ukraine while those of us who love sports, partying and fun are at full attention when the LIV Tour plane is pumping "We Are The Champions" through the speaker system and Pat Perez is walking around looking for someone to congratulate him on securing a monster bag of cash. Rory McIlroy can scold the young golfers who took the LIV money all he wants, but there are very few early 20-somethings who are turning down crushing vodka cranberries on a pimped-out freight plane to slum it in a Buick driving between Illinois and Kentucky. LIVing the crazy life with Dustin Johnson walking around ignoring Perez while Brooks and Jena chat on a jumbo jet with an open bar or Cracker Barrel stops on the way across America? The 30 for 30 on this era of professional golf better be a 45-part series. I want the DVD box set.

Ironically many of the people who own and travel on these planes constantly lecture us serfs about the need to reduce OUR carbon footprint. As we pile on a jammed packed, 2-hour delayed, single aisle plane with 150+ of our fellow plebs. Maybe hypocritically instead of ironically.

Inside lavish LIV Tour private jet for mega-rich golfers with Jena Sims on board and star singing ‘We are the Champions’

' src=

GOLF fans were given an inside look inside the incredible LIV Tour’s private jet last night.

The footage emerged via a TikTok video of the extravagant Boeing 777 Crystal Skye plane.

The LIV’s controversial stars enjoyed a party on-board the tour’s lavish private jet

Jena Sims and Brooks Koepka were both on board the flight

liv tour jet

It operates charter flights for the controversial LIV tour – and last night a host of stars got to party on it yesterday.

The rebel tour has sparked civil war in the sport, with players who have signed up facing PGA sanctions after accepting the huge sums of money to switch.

However, a host of the tour’s new golfers, caddies and companions did not seem to have a care in the world as they were captured enjoying all the jet had to offer.

And they were even filmed singing Queen’s hit song “We are the Champions” to leave social media followers in shock.

Jena Sims, who married Brooks Koepka, was spotted partying with her fella in the clip.

The American, a two-time US Open winner, agreed to join the LIV circuit last month.

Dustin Johnson, 38, was also on-board for the bash as Pat Perez was also celebrating his new role in the Middle East.

The 46-year-old was caught belting out the rock anthem as the camera panned around the aircraft.

He pocketed almost £750,000 after finishing in a joint 29th place at Pumpkin Ridge last time out.

As the footage continued to roll, a passenger was heard saying “Holy smoley” as they entered the deluxe lounge area and bar area on-board.

And the clip ended with the same person saying: “What a plane!”

Beminster’s The Trump National Golf Club will host the third event on the LIV tour on July 29.

It comes after Rory McIlroy slammed players who have joined the controversial LIV Series for fuelling “resentment”.

The four-time major winner has been continually vocal in his support for the PGA and DP World Tour.

However, six-time Majors winner Phil Mickelson – who has been paid a staggering £160m to play – defended his participation in the breakaway tour after previously branding the Saudi backers “scary m***********s.”

Golf’s civil war: the antitrust lessons to learn from the pga tour’s rivalry with liv golf.

Posted by berryht1 on Monday, May 6, 2024 in Issue 3 , Notes , Volume 26 .

Nick Vandeventer | 26 Vand. J. Ent. & Tech. L. 585 (2024)

The regulation of professional sports leagues under the Sherman Act presents a unique and, up to this point, unsolved problem. Increased regulation of the United States’ beloved sports is not something that many US citizens would necessarily welcome. And yet, courts are consistently confronted with the dilemma of checking competition “off the field” while attempting to leave unaffected the competition “on the field.” In doing so, courts must reconcile the principles and objectives of the Sherman Act (the Act) with the restraints necessary for the success of sports as an enterprise. While mirroring some of the aspects of traditional trade and business usually subject to the Sherman Act, the inescapable fact is that sports leagues are unique entities and, as such, require different perspectives in the application of governing law.

Using a now-resolved lawsuit filed against the PGA Tour as a case study, this Note explores the application of the Sherman Act to professional sports leagues and how the results have led to an inconsistent, noncommittal string of decisions, leaving the state of the law in flux. Furthermore, this Note addresses the proposition of a more consistent application of the Sherman Act and its intricacies, comparing economically grounded goals of preserving “on the field” competition with the Act’s inherent goals of promoting a competitive “off the field” marketplace.

'Like hitting the lottery': Canton's James Piot reflects on time with LIV Golf, future

liv tour jet

Last month, playing on a mini golf tour in Florida, James Piot took home the title, and a first-place check for $2,500. That's a long way from his days with LIV Golf, with whom he was guaranteed six-figure paydays at every tournament, even if he finished last.

"A little different than those LIV paychecks, absolutely," Piot said, with a laugh. "But it doesn't really matter what I'm playing for. I want to win. I've never really checked the paychecks or anything like that. It's really all about competing. Money makes it sweeter, when you're on top, but it's about competing and winning.

"That's why you play the game. You can't put a price on trophies."

In the literal sense, that's plenty debatable. In 2021, Piot, while at Michigan State, parlayed an amazing week of golf at storied Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania into a U.S. Amateur championship — which led, at first, to some good NIL money, in the early days of NIL, and eventually, a two-year deal with LIV Golf, the upstart rival of the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf was, and still is, steeped in controversy, given where the money comes from (the Saudis, with their atrocious human-rights record), but it set up Piot, at the time just out of college with no status on any professional tour, for years to come. He made $6 million, including a signing bonus and nearly $4 million in on-course earnings.

Piot, a Canton native, bought a condo in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he spends about nine months of the year, and still has a good nest egg left to continue financing his golf dreams. And, yes, he still has ambitious dreams, even as he's starting from square one.

'Moving in the right direction'

That's what made that mini-tour win, in Stuart, Florida, so special. While he owns the most prestigious trophy in amateur golf, the mini-tour win was his first professional victory. Piot hopes that showing is a springboard to get him back to where he wants to be, playing on the biggest stages, against some of the best golfers in the world. Piot recently spoke to The News for the first time since he joined LIV Golf in June 2022, as LIV Golf eventually dictated what press he spoke with, and when, while he was under contract.

"It's good," Piot said, when asked about the state of his golf game. "I feel like it's moving in the right direction. I'm getting better every year. I'm still young. This is Year 3 of being a pro. It's funny to think about that.

"I am super blessed to be in the position that I am."

Piot, 25, is planning for another busy summer, after being relegated along with three other players from LIV Golf after some struggles to make traction during his two years on the tour. He's in Michigan now, and competed in a local U.S. Open qualifier at Muskegon Country Club on Monday. He shot 70, but lost out on the final spot for sectional qualifying after he lost in an eight-hole playoff to Grosse Pointe's Patrick Sullivan (Drew Cable, of Lake Orion and Grand Valley State, and Beau Breault, of Hartland, also advanced to sectionals out of Muskegon; Jake Kneen, of White Lake and Oakland, and Joe Juszczyk, of Dearborn Heights, advanced out of qualifying in Sylvania, Ohio).

Piot will play a hefty schedule on the Asian Tour, in a bid to earn back some status on LIV Golf, as the tours have teamed up to allow for an opportunity for promotion. And this fall, Piot will head to Qualifying School, in a bid to earn status on the Korn Ferry Tour, and eventually the PGA Tour. The PGA Tour remains a top goal for Piot, and it's achievable. He joined LIV Golf without status on any other tour, meaning he's not subject to any penalties, unlike those who left the PGA Tour or DP World Tour (European Tour) to join LIV Golf. Those players earned bans.

Because of LIV Golf, Piot has the bankroll to fund his golf escapades, without having to grovel for sponsors, like so many players toiling on the mini-tours. (One of those players, by the way, is former Michigan State golfer Donnie Trosper, the Canton native who made an ace in the mini-tour event Piot won — and tied for 17th, for all of $275).

Money management remains key, of course. The expenses add up when you consider travel, usually airfare, and hotels and meals and the caddie. Former MSU assistant Dan Ellis was Piot's caddie for the U.S. Amateur, and resigned from the school to become Piot's full-time caddie with LIV Golf.

"My parents keep me humble," Piot said of Glenn Sr. and Judith. "I'm not into anything super fancy.

"I'm still driving the same car since college."

Help from Lefty

Piot was in college just three years ago; now, he's played all over the world, forming friendships with some of the biggest names in the history of the game. No. 1 on that list is World Golf Hall of Famer Phil Mickelson, who was Piot's team captain in 2023 , and made himself accessible for anything Piot needed, on the golf or mentorship front.

Piot even made multiple trips to Mickelson's home in California, where they would work on their games together. Anytime Piot has a question, or needs to talk, he can text Mickelson. Mickelson has provided a lot of chipping instruction, and some swing tips, too.

And, yes, of course, when they played practice rounds together, there were stakes, but Mickelson, Piot said, always stated on the first tee that they'd only play for whatever Piot was comfortable with. Mickelson usually won the match, but Piot said he got him a few times.

"He may be 53," Piot said of Mickelson, who's won more major championships (six) than Piot has played in (two), "but he's still one of golf's greats."

Piot also credited his other 2023 teammates, longtime PGA Tour players Brendan Steele and Cameron Tringale, for helping him make the transition from amateur to professional. Tringale and Piot live close to each other in Florida. Piot also praised Harold Varner III, a teammate of his from 2022.

But the best lessons he learned thorugh LIV Golf came on the golf course.

"It's definitely been a big step. You get to play on the biggest stage," Piot said. "I think seeing the best of the best play, that's such an advantage at my young age, to see what you have to be able to do to succeed at that level.

"I can't speak enough good things about it. The people there were awesome. ... It was kind of like hitting the lottery, with LIV Golf coming out that season (2022). It was awesome.

"I learned that even the best players in the world, they're still normal people. It was kind of cool meeting a lot of guys. ... Having Phil as a mentor was really cool.

"He did everything he could to try to make me better. ... That's a cool number to have."

A less-cool number? That would be 923rd, which is Piot's standing in the latest Official World Golf Rankings. In the grand scheme of things, with a world population of over 8 billion, that's pretty good when you think about it. But it's not where Piot wants to be, considering the white-hot buzz that surrounded him after he won the U.S. Amateur at Oakmont (where, by the way, he's now an honorary member; he went back last year with Ellis and swing coach Brian Cairns, a teacher at Fox Hills, and Ellis shot 67 from the tips to beat Piot and win a bet — Piot had to buy him a new bag from the clubhouse), and after he joined LIV Golf. He never seriously contended to win an individual title on LIV.

Still, Piot has zero regrets about his decision, which was controversial. Players who joined LIV Golf were widely criticized, though not everything was apples to oranges. Many PGA Tour players left one gravy train for a gravier train, but Piot was fresh out of college, and, frankly, looking for a job. He took the high-paying job.

He took some heat on social media, of course, though he didn't pay much mind to it. His family and friends were supportive. His best friends before he went to LIV Golf remains his friends today.

"Honestly, it didn't change much with friends and family, and that was the coolest thing," said Piot, who will play a bit of competitive golf in Michigan this year, maybe the Tournament of Champions, but he can't play the Michigan Open, because he's not a full-time Michigan resident anymore. "I've always had a pretty nice circle of friends. Everyone's still treating me the same, and I'm still the same person I've been."

Even if sometimes, particularly when he's playing over in Asia where the time difference prevents him from keeping in touch with his closest, golf starts to feel more like a job than a game.

"It's different when you're out there in your own world. It feels like a job," said Piot, a Detroit Catholic Central High School alum who still occasionally watches highlights on YouTube from his U.S. Amateur title when he needs to get some good vibes going. It was an unforgettable day, winning a USGA championship, and then learning moments later that Tom Izzo suddenly knew his name. "At the same time, I love it.

"As soon as the tournament starts, there's nothing else I'd rather be doing. It's what I love to do."

That's regardless of the numbers on the check.

What matters is the name on the trophy.

Dlala, real name Thuthuka Zindlovu, is jetting off to Europe next week and told TshisaLIVE he is excited about the shows.

“It’s a back-to-back tour between the UK and the Netherlands. It's quite an exciting journey as international enquiries  are slowly becoming a norm, which is good for me and my career,” he said.

He said he was born ready and as long as he is placed behind the decks, it doesn’t matter the crowd or place.

“The people need to have their dancing shoes ready, nothing   too complicated. Last month I was  playing in Ireland and I'm convinced I've cemented my music relevance in that part of the world.”

He was nominated in the Metro FM awards but didn't scoop an award.

“It’s a good thing to be nominated. A bittersweet experience not to have won anything after such a wonderful year. Excited for everyone who won on the night. We make music for the people. If awards come, we gladly accept and appreciate them”, he said.

TshisaLIVE has  learnt  that during the Durban July, Dlala Thukzin will host SoundLand, with top artists including Kabza De Small, Simmy and Blxckie performing,

“The official Durban July after party is called SoundLand on July 6. Also, we’ve got quite a lot of music ready for release, it’s just a matter of finalising what to release first.”
