2. E.T. Adventure

Opened in 1990, E.T. Adventure is a dark ride based on the Steven Spielberg film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. The ride is notable for its historical significance as being the only remaining opening day attraction at Universal Studios and thus the oldest at Universal Orlando Resort.

3. Fast And Furious – Supercharged

Fast & Furious – Supercharged is a motion simulator ride that takes guests on a high-speed chase through the streets of Los Angeles. 7. Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl

Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl is a ride in the Springfield section of Universal Studios that features the two aliens from The Simpsons. 11. The Simpsons Ride

Guests will join the Autobots in a battle to save humankind from the Decepticons and experience the thrill of riding alongside Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.

13. Villain-Con Minion Blast

The Vicious 6 are at Villain-Con, and you’re invited to use your personal E-Liminator X blaster device to hit interactive digital targets. The ride uses a point-and-shoot gameplay mode that’s somewhat similar to Universal’s Men in Black attraction and Disney’s Buzz Lightyear ride, but these blasters are completely wireless. You’re standing — not sitting — as the ride system moves you through a series of scenes (standard wheelchairs are also welcome). Enhance your gameplay with special features on Universal’s smartphone app.

14. Trolls Trollercoaster (Opening Summer 2024)

• Location : DreamWorks Land
• Ride Type : Thrill, Kid Friendly

Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster was a junior roller coaster in the Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone of Universal Studios Florida. The coaster reached 28 feet above the ground, had top speeds of 21 mph, and was designed for younger riders.

This attraction closed on January 15, 2023 for transformation into Trolls Trollercoaster, a ride which will allow you to “hop onto the caterpillar Caterbus” and “join Poppy, Tiny and the twins Satin and Chenille as you try to make an escape from spooky spiders.”

It is widely believed that the ride profile will remain similar to the former Nuthouse Coaster. The new coaster opens in Summer 2024.

15. The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man

The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is a 3D attraction at Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida. The attraction features a motion-based ride through New York City and a simulated freefall from the top of a 400-foot building. Guests will also have the opportunity to interact with Spider-Man himself during the ride.

16. Caro-Seuss-El

• Location : Seuss Landing

Caro-Seuss-el is a unique carousel ride at Seuss Landing island. The ride features characters and sets from the famous Dr. Seuss books. Caro-Seuss-el is a fun and whimsical ride that is perfect for children of all ages.

18. Doctor Doom’s Fearfall

Doctor Doom’s Fearfall is a space shot / drop attraction located in Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Guests are seated, harnessed in, and blasted to the top of a 185-foot-tall tower. Once at the top, guests plunge back to the ground at approximately 40 miles per hour. The attraction is themed after Doctor Doom, a supervillain from the Marvel Universe, and is not suitable for young children or those afraid of heights.

19. Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls

• Location : Toon Lagoon
• Ride Type : Water Ride
• Minimum Height Requirement : 44″ (112 cm)

Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls is a log flume ride located at Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida. The ride features a series of drops, the longest of which is 75 feet, reaching speeds up to 45 mph. Riders will be sprayed with water at several points along the route.

20. Flight of the Hippogriff

• Location : The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade

Flight of the Hippogriff is a family-friendly coaster in Hogsmeade Village at Islands of Adventure. The ride begins with a flight around Hagrid’s Hut before taking guests on a journey through the Forbidden Forest. Despite some small drops and a top speed of 28 mph, this coaster is suitable for younger children.

21. Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is a highly themed and immersive roller coaster that takes riders through the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is one of Universal’s most highly themed and immersive rides. Guests board a magical vehicle that allows them to “fly” through Hogwarts Castle while experiencing the sights and sounds of the wizarding world. 23. The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train

The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train at Islands of Adventure is a family-friendly ride that takes you above the whimsical buildings and rides of Seuss Landing. You can ride along one of two tracks – one track follows the story of the Sneetches, and the second track features other Dr. Seuss stories you know and love. Along the way, you’ll get great views of the surrounding area and maybe even spot a few of your favorite characters.

24. Hogwarts Express (Hogsmeade Station)

The Hogwarts Express: Hogsmeade Station is a train station designed to look like the Hogsmeade station from the Harry Potter films. It is the departure point for the Hogwarts Express within the park’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter section. The Hogwarts Guests can board the Hogwarts Express and ride it to Kings Cross Station in Universal Studios Florida and back. A multi-park ticket is required to experience this attraction.

25. The Incredible Hulk Coaster

• Minimum Height Requirement : 54″ (138 cm)

The Incredible Hulk Coaster is a steel roller coaster that reaches speeds of up to 67 mph and features seven inversions, making it one of the most intense rides at the park. The launch tunnel further enhances the experience, which sends riders hurtling through the dark before emerging into the daylight. With its iconic green track and exciting theme, The Incredible Hulk Coaster is a must-ride for any thrill seeker visiting Islands of Adventure.

26. Jurassic Park River Adventure Ride

• Location : Jurassic Park
• Ride Type : Thrill, Water Ride

The Jurassic Park River Adventure Ride simulates rafting on a river while getting riders wet. It starts with a calm section that goes through the Jurassic Park gate and then enters a dark section with dinosaurs. The ride culminates with the 85-foot plunge, which sends riders down a flume at 50 mph.

27. Jurassic World VelociCoaster

The Jurassic World VelociCoaster is a launched roller coaster at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. The coaster drops riders from a height of 140 feet at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour. It also features a launch section where riders are accelerated from 0 to 50 miles per hour in just 2 seconds. The VelociCoaster is one of the newest and most intense rides at Universal Orlando and is sure to thrill even the most experienced coaster enthusiasts.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish is a family-friendly attraction where guests ride in “fish” vehicles through a colorful undersea world, encountering playful creatures along the way. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish is an excellent option for families with small children.

29. Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges

Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges at Islands of Adventure is a water ride where guests help Popeye rescue Olive Oyl from the clutches of Bluto. The ride features many twists and turns, as well as several surprises that are sure to leave riders soaked. Despite its lack of thrill factor, Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges is the park’s wettest water ride.

30. Pteranodon Flyers

• Maximum Height Requirement : 56″ (143 cm)

Next on our list of Universal Orlando rides is Pteranodon Flyers, a ride perfect for younger guests. Guests sit on comfortable seats that gently sway in the air, suspended from tracks above, without any sudden or frightening movements. Skull Island: Reign of Kong is a trackless dark ride at Islands of Adventure that takes guests through the island home of the legendary Kong. The ride features state-of-the-art effects and safari vehicles that transport guests into the heart of the action, making for an unforgettable experience. A ride like this may be too dark and frightening for young children and those sensitive to violent themes.

32. Storm Force Accelatron

Located in the Marvel Super Hero Island area of Islands of Adventure, Storm Force Accelatron is a tea cup-style spinning ride. The attraction features characters from the X-Men universe, including Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, and Rogue. Riders board one of 12 tea cups and are spun around a central axis, reaching speeds of up to 10 miles per hour.

Rides and Attractions at Epic Universe

Universal’s next theme park, Epic Universe, is expected to open in 2025 with multiple themed lands and attractions. There is not yet a full official list of rides at Epic Universe , but that hasn’t stopped plenty of speculation and rumors.

Theme park concept art released by Universal prominently shows a substantial rollercoaster. Aerial photos of the construction zone indicate that work is well underway on a Super Nintendo World area similar to those at Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Hollywood .

It has also been confirmed that Epic Universe will include lands and rides themed to the Harry Potter franchise, How To Train Your Dragon, and the classic Universal Pictures monster films.

With that in mind, here are the attractions which have been confirmed and/or are considered reasonably likely to appear at Epic Universe:

• Starfall Racers ✅ Confirmed — a dual-launch 133-ft tall roller coaster boasting 5,000 feet of track and speeds of up to 62 mph. At night, the track will be completely dark, making the individually-lit cars look like comets streaking across the sky. 48″ height requirement.
• Constellation Carousel ✅ Confirmed — a unique carousel concept that goes beyond the usual merry-go-round — individual rotating animals (inspired by the constellations) whirl around and lift up to 6 feet in the air.
• Astronomica ✅ Confirmed — a dancing fountains play area.
• Hiccup’s Wing Gliders ✅ Confirmed — family-friendly roller coaster allowing you to “fly” alongside Toothless and Hiccup. 40″ height requirement
• Dragon Racer’s Rally ✅ Confirmed — A spinning, aerobatic ride anchored to a single point rather than moving along a track, reaching heights of up t0 67 feet. 48″ height requirement.
• Fyre Drill ✅ Confirmed — A wet and wild boat competition. Guest board colorful dragon-headed boats and blast water cannons at flame-like targets. No minimum height requirement, but guests under 48″ must ride with a supervising companion.
• Mario Kart:  Bowser’s Challenge ✅ Confirmed — a driving simulation based on the popular game
• Yoshi’s Adventure 🟡 Clearly Under Construction but Not Officially Confirmed — a family-friendly dark ride featuring indoor and outdoor elements
• Donkey Kong Country Mine Cart Madness coaster 🟡 Clearly Under Construction but Not Officially Confirmed — a mine cart roller coaster featuring a unique ride system which will make riders feel their coaster kart is jumping gaps in the track. A version opens at Universal Studios Japan in early 2024.
• Unnamed  Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction(s) 🟡 Land confirmed but ride details unclear — widely believed to include a ride based on the Ministry of Magic, but few confirmed details are available so far.
• Unnamed Universal Monsters roller coaster 🟡 Clearly Under Construction but Not Officially Confirmed — Universal has promised a way to experience classic Universal horror movies in a reimagined way. No real details on ride experience revealed, but aerial photos clearly show a roller coaster under construction.
• Unnamed Universal Monsters dark ride 🟡 Clearly Under Construction but Not Officially Confirmed — A large show building is being built, the type that would typically house a dark ride. Widely-accepted rumor is that this could be somewhat similar to Islands of Adventure’s Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction, in which a robotic arm allows ride vehicles to behave erratically as opposed to simply riding along a flat track.

Universal Studios Hollywood Layout

The newest attraction, Secret Life of Pets: Off The Leash! (exclusive to the Hollywood park), opened in 2021 and is a marvel of a dark ride seamlessly mixing industry-leading screen-based technology with animatronics. Located on the upper lot's Manhattan-inspired streets, the colorful area immerses guests in the loved movie franchise through playful character interactions.

On the lower lot, Jurassic World — The Ride is a water-based attraction that shines as one of the biggest thrills offered with pioneering feats in audio-animatronics since its refurbishment in 2021.

The World-Famous Studio Tour is a unique 60-minute journey that includes behind-the-scenes access to working sets while intermixing themed attraction experiences , all while sitting aboard a tram. Where to Eat at Universal Studios Hollywood

In Springfield, beloved eateries from The Simpsons come to life, including Krusty Burger and Lard Lad (serving up giant pink donuts). On the lower lot, Jurassic Café offers unique bites, like slow-roasted mojo pork, and it is steps away from Isla Nu-Bar, a tiki outpost pouring tropical cocktails.

For those looking to imbibe during their park visit, there's no shortage of highly themed bars, including Moe's Tavern, Hog's Head in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and Mulligan's Irish Pub.

Those seeking a caffeine fix should avoid Starbucks and head straight to the French Street Bistro, a charming hidden gem with coffee drinks, breakfast, and snacks served throughout the day.

Universal CityWalk Hollywood

The property's dining and entertainment district, CityWalk, is adjacent to the theme park, where you can find the destination's table-service dining options. NBC Sports Bar & Grill is your go-to spot for sporting events and offers surprisingly excellent pub food, while Antojitos Cocina Mexicano has a wonderful patio and sprawling bar with Mexican eats and handcrafted cocktails. For casual options, the recently opened Chick Chick Chicken dishes out authentic Nashville-style hot chicken while the legendary Pink's Hot Dogs has an easy-to-access outpost of their iconic eatery.

No park ticket is required to visit CityWalk.

When to Visit Universal Studios Hollywood

Given its location in sunny Southern California, visitors can enjoy pleasant weather almost year-round. Weekdays between holiday seasons are the best time to visit for shorter lines at attractions and restaurants.

Visits during the theme park's two annual events, Halloween Horror Nights and Grinchmas, tend to be the most crowded. Halloween Horror Nights, a separately ticketed event, is the country's leading haunt event where Universal's soundstages are transformed into frightening walk-through experiences themed to the biggest horror franchises. Grinchmas, included with general theme park admission, sees gleeful holiday-inspired upgrades. Universal Express proves to be invaluable during these times.

How to Get There and Where To Stay Near Universal Studios

Universal Studios Hollywood is located in the heart of Los Angeles, approximately 20 minutes from nearby Hollywood Burbank Airport and 40 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport.

Daily parking rates for theme park visitors begin at $30 if entering the lot before 5 p.m. For those visiting a full-service restaurant at CityWalk, valet parking is available for up to 2.5 hours for $10.

Unlike Orlando's version, they do not have on-site, Universal-operated hotels, but hotel partners. Hilton Universal City & Sheraton Universal Hotel are located within walking distance of the park, with guests receiving perks like complimentary shuttles and discounted ticket packages.

Entertainment at the Theme Park

It's of no surprise that entertainment is a cornerstone of the theme park, including some of the most impressive displays of free-roaming characters that interact with guests, like Beetlejuice, Dracula, and Lucille Ball.

The theme park's live shows also shine, like "Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular." Inspired by the cult-favorite film, the stunt show is celebrating over 25 years and uses actual pieces from the movie's sets along with large-scale pyrotechnics and captivating live actors. Other shows include the hilarious Universal's Animal Actors featuring real-life, Hollywood-trained pets.

Their nighttime offerings may be more scaled back than other parks, but the Harry Potter -themed evening spectacular is worth staying for. "Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle" combines music, lights, and projections all set to the stunning backdrop of the towering school of wizardry.

Many guests enter and begin their day at the upper lot's attractions. Instead, work backward by beginning at the lower lot to possibly relieve wait times.

The World-Famous Studio Tour typically embarks on its last ride of the day over an hour before park closing, so it is best to plan ahead for this experience.

I visit Universal Orlando several times a year. Here are my top 10 tips for first-timers.

I’ll never forget walking out of Universal Islands of Adventure in 2022, drenched from head to toe after riding Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barge . 

It was my first trip back to Universal Orlando Resort in years, and I learned some things the hard way, which I gladly shared with fellow travelers, hoping that they’d avoid my mistakes .

Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to visit the Florida resort several times a year. And while I stand by my earlier tips, I’ve learned a few others.

Here are my top tips for first-timers visiting Universal Orlando.

1.  Stay on property

From RV parks to vacation rentals, there’s no shortage of places to stay in Central Florida, but it can pay to stay on property when visiting Universal Orlando. Not only are prices comparable to off-property hotels with Endless Summer Surfside and Dockside starting at $99 a night, but all of Universal’s resort hotels offer 30 minutes of early entry to select parks, which vary depending on time of year. 

They also provide free resort transportation, so you can get back to your room fairly quickly after a long park day or for a midday break. That free transportation can be clutch in the mornings, particularly at pricier Loews Sapphire Falls , Loews Royal Pacific , Loews Portofino Bay , and Hard Rock Hotel , which offer water taxis that drop you off closer to the parks than you can get arriving by car or bus. Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Aventura Hotel guests can walk over to Sapphire Falls for water taxis, but the extra time and steps added may make it not worth skipping the resort shuttle bus.

Walking paths are also available to the parks from every resort hotel except the Endless Summer ones. Cabana Bay guests also have a dedicated walking path to Universal’s Volcano Bay water park.

Guests staying at Royal Pacific, Portofino Bay and Hard Rock also get free Universal Express Passes , which dramatically cut waits for most rides and normally start at $79.99 per person. Free package delivery is also available to all resort hotels, if guests don’t want to lug park purchases around all day.

2. Buy a popcorn bucket

Snacking at the parks can get expensive. Guests are welcome to bring their own snacks, but there’s one crowd-pleaser that won’t break the bank. 

A plain popcorn bucket costs a little over $12, and you can keep getting refills throughout your trip. Refills cost around $2 each, making popcorn among the cheapest, most shareable snacks on property. On our last trip, my family and I got multiple refills for the price of one pretzel with cheese dip.

3.  Bring a light, refillable water bottle

Staying hydrated is always important, particularly on hot park days. 

You can fill water bottles with free ice-cold water at any of the many Coca-Cola Freestyle machines across the property. Cups of ice water are also available for free anywhere dispensed soft drinks are sold.

Leave big double-walled stainless steel tumblers at home. Not only will they feel heavy, carrying them around all the day, but if they aren’t leak-proof, they’ll make a mess when you tip them on their sides to fit in lockers for thrill rides.

4. Bring a medium-sized bag to carry your stuff

Numerous attractions, from Jurassic World VelociCoaster to Men in Black Alien Attack , require guests to store loose articles in lockers provided for the duration of the ride. 

I previously recommended keeping most of your things together to avoid having to empty every pocket each time. That’s still true, but I want to add a caveat on size. 

The free lockers aren’t very big. They can fit a Loungefly-style mini backpack or empty popcorn bucket, if you squish them down, but they’re not large enough for packed full-size backpacks. Keep that in mind unless you want to pay for larger lockers.

5. Bring ponchos

Ponchos don’t take a lot of space and can save you from getting soaked like me on Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barge, Dudley Do-Right’s Rip Saw Falls , and Jurassic Park River Adventure .

Even if you skip water rides, ponchos are good to keep on hand for rainy park days.

6. Use single-rider lines 

Many attractions have a single-rider lane. If you’re traveling alone or don’t mind your party being split up, you can save time using the single-rider lane, if it’s open. They’re not always offered.

It doesn’t guarantee a short wait, but it’s usually shorter. On our latest trip, my middle schooler still waited at least 45 minutes for The Incredible Hulk Coaster and an hour for Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit . That was about as long as the regular standby wait for Hulk but shorter than the standby wait for Rip Ride Rockit.

The following attractions have single-rider lanes, though availability varies.

7. Use child swap 

If someone in your party doesn’t meet ride requirements for an attraction or simply wants to sit it out, you can ask for a child swap. It’s particularly helpful for families with young children because it allows parents and caregivers to take turns riding the ride and staying with whoever is sitting it out.

On our most recent trip, my youngest didn’t want to ride Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure , so we all waited in line together, but then she and I peeled off to a designated waiting room while my middle schooler and mother-in-law went on the ride. When they were done, my mother-in-law stayed with my youngest while I went on the ride. My middle schooler lucked out, getting to ride it twice.

Not all attractions have waiting rooms, but they all offer swaps. Just let team members know you need one.

8. Take breaks

Theme parks can be exhausting. Not only are you on your feet all day, but they can be loud, crowded and overstimulating. 

When possible, I like to plan for at least one sit-down meal in the day. This way, I can take my time and recuperate in air conditioning away from crowds. I’ll typically splurge on one table-service meal, but there are several medium-priced, quick-service restaurants across both theme parks where you can grab a lighter snack and relax.

Really, any cool spot where you can sit down works. Knockturn Alley in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida is always refreshing, though dark. Jurassic Park Discovery Center in Islands of Adventure is a great place for kids to explore while adults unwind. 

9.  Watch the shows

Rides get a lot of the love, but Universal Orlando’s live entertainment is top tier. You can find showtimes on the free resort app or simply stop to watch performances you stumble across while roaming the parks.

The only year-round shows with dedicated seating are at Universal Studios Florida: Animal Actors On Location! , The Bourne Stuntacular , and Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show, which is more funny than scary.

10. Let little ones stretch their legs

There are several play areas across both theme parks for little ones to burn off energy.

This summer, a new DreamWorks Land will open at Universal Studios Florida with a “Kung Fu Panda”-themed play area.

At Islands of Adventure, kids can explore Camp Jurassic in Jurassic Park, If I Ran a Zoo in Seuss Landing, and Me Ship, The Olive in Toon Lagoon. There are also splash pads and water features across Toon Lagoon; just make sure to either bring swimsuits or backup clothes for those.

Bonus: Don’t sleep on Volcano Bay

You’ll definitely want to pack swimsuits if you’re heading to Volcano Bay, which regularly ranks among the best water parks in the country and adds a completely different experience to vacations.

It’s themed like a tropical paradise, with plenty of trees and an iconic volcano that houses multiple water slides. The water park can get crowded, but you never spend too much time standing in line because every guest gets a Tapu Tapu wearable bracelet that lets them join one virtual queue at a time. 

Single-day tickets start at $80, which is considerably less than the $119 starting price for guests age 10 and up at Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure, but still not cheap. However, if you’re already planning to buy multi-day tickets for both theme parks, tacking on Volcano Bay is not much more.

The options for rides and attractions at Universal Orlando Resort ’s various parks — including Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay — are extensive.

“Universal is the king for multisensory rides,” said Jason Mayhew, owner/site administrator of OFF On The Go , a website that highlights fun things to do in Central Florida and beyond.

Indeed, it’s nearly impossible to define what constitutes a ride at these parks. Multisensory experiences abound at all Universal Orlando theme parks, and the fun isn’t just for thrill-seekers.

“They have a lot of fun attractions for kids," said Matt Roseboom, editor/publisher of Attractions Magazine .. "In fact, just about every area has something for the smaller ones to enjoy.”

Whether you’re seeking an adrenaline rush or kid-friendly fun, here’s a breakdown of rides and attractions at Universal Studios and other parks at the Universal Orlando Resort.

●       The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride: This elevated, slow-moving trolley includes a retelling of the Sneetches.

Universal’s Volcano Bay  

If water rides are your thing, then Universal’s newest paradise is sure to make a splash.

●      Kopiko Wai Winding River: Take it easy in a tube on the lazy river as it meanders through Volcano Bay’s tropical surroundings. There are life jackets for small children and non-swimmers.

●       ika Moana of the Honu ika Moana: Hold onto your five-passenger raft as it twists and turns over bubbling geysers.

●       Ko’okiri Body Plunge: As the name implies, this ride is not for the faint of stomach. Participate in the ancient tradition of honoring the volcano God, Vol, by braving this 70-degree, 125-foot fall.

●       Honu of the Honu ika Moana: If you have a need for speed, then hop onto a four-passenger raft and zip down this open-air flume.

●       Kala & Tai Nui Serpentine Body Slides: Grab your BFF and plunge together down side-by-side clear tubes before you’re reunited in the turquoise waters below.

●       Ohno of Ohyah & Ohno Drop Slides: Keep your wits about you as you climb across the chasm and navigate the rope bridge before plunging into the blue waters below.

●       TeAwa The Fearless River: Strap on a life vest and leave fear behind as you embark on this water slide full of fierce rapids and intense waves.

●       Krakatau Aqua Coaster: You’ll be glad to have company on your four-person canoe as it ticks upward into the dark mist of the volcano before plummeting into a roaring waterfall.

●       Waturi Beach: You’re in for more watery fun as you swim, splash or just relax in this lagoon at the foot of Universal’s iconic volcano.

●       The Reef: Looking for some R&R? This leisure pool is the perfect place to cool off in peace.

●       Punga Racers: It’s a slippery slope once you hop aboard a manta ray and race your companions through the underwater sea caves. First rider to the finish wins a celebratory spray of water, courtesy of the legendary hero Punga himself.

●       Tonga of Taniwha Tubes: Hop into a tube and careen down one or both water slides, but watch out for tiki statues that spray water.

●       Ohyah of Ohyah & Ohno Drop Slides: Drop in for some fun on this thrilling water slide that twists and turns before letting you off four feet above a whirlpool.

●       Puihi of Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides: Hang onto your multi-person raft as it lunges into a dark, winding cave, sends you through a funnel and deposits you safely at the bottom.

●       Raki of Taniwha Tubes: Ride one or both of these twisting twin water slides, but watch out for playful tiki statues that spray jets of water.

Ideal for kids and the young at heart:

●       Tot Tiki Reef: If your little ones aren’t ready for raging rapids, they’ll enjoy this tot-sized splash pad that’s just their speed.

●       Puka Uli Lagoon: This leisure pool is perfect for the entire family, with bongo drums, spraying jets of water and a great view of nearby water rides.

Tips for visiting Universal Orlando Resort 

●       Splurge on a Universal Express Pass for shorter wait times at most of your favorite rides and attractions.

●       Better yet, stay at a Universal Orlando Resort Hotel . You’ll get to enter the theme parks an hour before the general public, and guests at select hotels get free Universal Express Unlimited to Universal Studios Florida and Universal's Islands of Adventure. Mayhew advises heading to the Harry Potter attractions first, before the lines get too long.

●       At Volcano Bay, you can use your waterproof TapuTapu band to hold your place in the Virtual Line for one attraction at a time.

●       Ask if the ride you’re interested in has a single-rider line. “The single rider lines are usually much faster than the regular lines. You can always meet up after the ride and discuss your favorite parts,” Roseboom said.

●       “ Park to Park passes are needed in order to ride the train back and forward from Diagon Alley to Hogsmeade,” Mayhew notes. “Without this ticket you cannot experience the train! Make sure you use those tickets.”

Best Universal Studios Florida Attractions & Ride Guide

Our Universal Studios Florida ride guide reviews the park’s top attractions, with numerical scores for every show, roller coaster, simulator, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. If you’re planning a trip to Universal Orlando, it’s a great place to start when making a rough roadmap for the best things to do–and what’s appropriate for your family.

To that later point, we’ll focus on height requirements, scare-factor, intensity, and motion sickness. These are all common concerns among Walt Disney World fans and frequently questions we’ve received from readers. Sarah has issues with almost all of these things (save for height, but at least that’s objectively measured), so we can offer a subjective assessment of what might present problems. We’ll also try to compare each attraction to a counterpart at Walt Disney World.

If you’re wanting to know how we would spend an ideal day in USF, read our 1-Day Universal Studios Florida Itinerary . We could spend much of the day simply wandering around the park, doing only a few attractions while enjoying the entertainment and seasonal offerings, both of which are not covered in this ride guide. That touring plan covers an actual, substantive day in Universal Studios Florida, whereas this guide gives you the info you need about each attraction to determine whether to include it in your day.

Numerical scores are on a scale of 1 to 10, and only take into consideration overall quality relative to that specific type of attraction. Dark rides are judged against other dark rides, roller coasters against other coasters, and so on, to create a relatively level playing field. There are a few 9 or 9.5/10 attractions below that probably could’ve been given 10/10, but just aren’t quite on par with their gold standard counterparts.

Regardless, this guide to Universal Studios Florida’s attractions should give you an idea of which attractions are must-see for you, and which ones you won’t have time to do. Note that this list only covers USF; we’ll have another one for Islands of Adventure soon.

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem (8/10) – This is like a typical 3D/4D theme park movie theater meets a motion simulator. The ride moves in sync with a movie, which features the daughters of Gru and the Minions while touring and partying your way through Gru’s lab. It’s cute, funny, and endearing, a lot like the movies themselves.

Being a film with motion simulator components, there’s obviously the potential for issues there. Calling it a tour of Gru’s lab undersells the action, as it’s fast-paced with drops, twists, and turns. However, it’s relatively mild as compared to pretty much everything else at Universal and it now is a 2D film that doesn’t require the 3D “minion goggles.” Moreover, it’s one of the newest attractions utilizing some of the newest tech, which makes it pretty smooth. In terms of a Walt Disney World comparison, think Star Tours meets MuppetVision with Minions instead of Muppets. Guests must be at least 40″ (102cm). Children between 40″—48″ (102cm-122cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion. Persons under 40″ (102cm) must experience this attraction from an adjacent stationary seat.

Shrek 4D (3/10) – This 3D movie features the adventures of Shrek and his Donkey friend as they attempt to rescue Fiona. It’s awful and often has long lines. If your comedic sensibilities are trapped in the early-aughts and you still find the novelty of animation with self-aware and semi-satirical “humor” to be funny, you might enjoy it. Everyone else should stay far away.

It’s a typical 3D film in a theme park, with antiquated projection and glasses. Shrek 4D also has moving seats and in-theater effects like squirts of water. It’s comparable to MuppetVision 3D at Walt Disney World, minus the humor. Kids might be scared of the dark or startling effects; everyone else might be scared by how bad it is.

Transformers: The Ride 3D (9.5/10) – In this action-packed thrill ride, a bunch of talking, shapeshifting cars fight over a spark plug. It’s either a stand-in for the Holy Grail, the One Ring, or Rosebud. Honestly, I’m not sure–I’ve done this ride dozens of times and still have no clue what’s happening at any given moment. Lots of stuff, all of it awesome. The chaotic energy suits Transformers: the Ride. I struggle to come up with a good Walt Disney World comparison…Flight of Passage mixed with a portion of Star Wars Rise of the Resistance, maybe?

Transformers: the Ride 3D is (obviously) an attraction requiring 3D glasses, and also with fast and intense movement, sharp turns, and a mild drop. If you’re susceptible to motion sickness, avoid Transformers. (It’s too intense for Sarah.) Guests must be at least 40″ (102cm) to ride. Children between 40″—48″ (102cm-122cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (7/10) – Let’s start with the Walt Disney World comparison here: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is like an outdoor Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith. It’s an un-themed roller coaster that leans heavily on thrills and a fun soundtrack (in this case, you choose the music). In terms of fundamentals, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is a sit-down X-Car roller coaster on a 3,800-foot steel track, with 17-story vertical ascent and a top speed of 65 miles per hour.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is fairly intense–a coaster enthusiast’s ride. At least, it was when it debuted. Even though it’s relatively new (debuting a little over a decade ago), it feels older. It’s now jarring and bumpy…sort of like Space Mountain. Guests must be at least 51″ (130cm) and no more than 79″ (201cm) to ride Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.

Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon (5/10) – Housed in the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza, this is is a loving tribute to the Tonight Show and its legendary hosts over the years, plus Jimmy Fallon. Race Through New York highlights the show’s humor and some recurring gags while offering an exhilarating race through New York City (hence the name) on Fallon’s custom Tonight Rider vehicle. What you think of it will largely depend upon your fondness (or lack thereof) for Fallon’s incarnation of the Tonight Show. I prefer the waiting area to the ride itself.

In terms of Walt Disney World comparisons, the closest attraction is Star Tours. Race Through New York uses a Virtual Queue and boarding group system instead of a traditional line. The attraction itself is a 3D motion simulator, albeit with crisp visuals and only mild intensity–but at a high speed and with sharp turns. It’s not recommended for those who easily get motion sickness (Sarah didn’t have issues with it, but YMMV). Must be at least 40″ (102cm). Children between 40″—48″ (102cm-122cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion.

Revenge of the Mummy (9.5/10) — Based on the film franchise, this is a thrilling roller coaster with show scenes and great special effects. But there’s more to it than exhilaration and impressive technical effects. Revenge of the Mummy’s central conceit is silly, with a mockumentary vibe that you’re on set with Brendan Fraser who really needs his cup of coffee. It’s hard to explain, but the attraction works on multiple levels, with a tongue-in-cheek pre-show followed by a slightly darker ride. Revenge of the Mummy is a cult classic attraction among Universal fans, and for good reason.

Guests must be at least 48″ (122cm) to ride Revenge of the Mummy. It’s not overly intense–anyone who can do Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster or Expedition Everest will be totally fine. As far as the Walt Disney World comparison goes, it’s also like a mix of those two; probably a bit closer to Everest but totally indoors.

Fast & Furious Supercharged (3/10) – Adapted from a stop on the tram tour at Universal Studios Hollywood, this ride features hydraulic platforms and colossal screens to simulate a high speed chase through Los Angeles. Fast and the Furious is one of my guilty-pleasure movie franchises, but this ride is idiotic beyond belief. It’s one of the worst major theme park attraction I’ve ever experienced. Other fans of the popcorn flicks might like it–what do I know.

While it’s fast-paced and chaotic, Fast & Furious – Supercharged is relatively mild in terms of movement. The speed of the visuals might cause motion sickness, though. Sarah is usually fine with it, although she closes her eyes for the high-speed portions. (Probably a good idea for everyone, regardless of motion sickness.) Guests must be at least 40″ (102cm). Children between 40″—48″ (102cm-122cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion.

The Simpsons Ride (8/10) — This “theme park within a theme park” attraction that spoofs other parks while taking you and the Simpsons to Krustyland via a motion simulator. It’s fun for everyone, but more so for longtime fans of the Simpsons who will appreciate the many characters, in-jokes, referential humor and gags, and that trademark Simpsons humor.

The ride system is recycled from Back to the Future The Ride, and sometimes that shows its 30-year old age. Guests suffering from motion sickness report this as one of, if not the, worst rides at Universal Orlando. It’s similar to Star Tours, but with smaller ride vehicles situated in front of a larger screen (somewhat like Soarin’ on that front). Guests must be at least 40″ (102cm) to ride. Children between 40″—48″ (102cm-122cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion.

Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl (4/10) – It’s a spinner. Like Dumbo except with the cynical aliens from Treehouse of Horror episodes of the Simpsons.

Harry Potter And The Escape From Gringotts (10/10) – This attraction is an experience from start to finish. Entering through the opulent lobby, you meet animatronic goblin bank tellers. From there you enter a security checkpoint and have your photo taken, then pass through an area that sets the stage for the 3D track-based motion ride-through. Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is my favorite of the Wizarding World attractions in both parks. I prefer Escape from Gringotts because it offers a linear narrative that’s also thrilling and varied, leveraging an array of technologies along with physical environments. This is one of the best theme park rides in all of Orlando.

While very different in both style and substance, I’d call Star Wars Rise of the Resistance the closest Walt Disney World comparison. The key differences here are that there are more screens, 3D glasses, and it’s more thrilling. Not quite on par with Revenge of the Mummy or Transformers in that regard, and worth the gamble if you’re on the fence (in large part because it’s such a good attraction, which skews the “risk/reward” calculus). Guests must be at least 42″ (107cm). Children between 42″—48″ (107cm-122cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion.

Hogwarts Express via King’s Cross Station (8/10) – A relaxing train ride between London and Hogsmeade (in Islands of Adventure) with screen-based scenery of the countryside, etc. It’s a clever way to park hop between the two parks, while remaining immersed in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. However, and perhaps unpopular opinion here, but I don’t think the technology utilized has aged particularly well. It’s not all that old, but suspension of disbelief can be a challenge with the tech.

There’s nothing like Hogwarts Express at Walt Disney World. The obvious comparison would be the various trains and railroads, but this is more screen-based attraction than leisurely transportation. Anyone should be able to ride Hogwarts Express without issue.

Men In Black: Alien Attack (9/10) — Sorry Walt Disney World, but this is the best shooter ride in Orlando. It’s similar to Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin or Toy Story Mania… but better . You’re the newest Men in Black recruit, on a mission to shoot as many aliens as possible. The attraction features a variety of scenes and sets with physical props. While the franchise that inspired it is arguably dated, the ride itself is top-notch.

Guests must be at least 42″ (107cm) to ride. Children between 42″—48″ (107cm-122cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion. The attraction has a few sudden turns, but no worse than Toy Story Mania.

E.T. Adventure (9/10) — I could go on and on about the greatness of E.T. Adventure. While the exterior and outside queue are straight out of the 1980s, the interior queue and ride portion of E.T. Adventure are still fresh. The ride introduces zany characters that are unfamiliar to most but equally as bizarre as ET. This makes it feel a bit campy, but the whole of the experience holds up well and is fun. None of this should come as any surprise given that E.T. is national treasure that will be cherished by future generations of Americans for billions of years to come.

E.T. Adventure is the best Fantasyland-style dark ride in Orlando. It’s like Peter Pan’s Flight at Magic Kingdom, but with more fluidity and a better movie ( that’s right! ) as its basis. It’s appropriate for guests of all ages and there should be no issues with its movements or scare-factor, although E.T. and the alien inhabitants of the Green Planet are admittedly a bit creepy looking. Guests must be at least 34″ (87cm) to ride. Children between 34″—48″ (87cm-122cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion.

Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-up Show (9/10) – A behind the scenes look at how monster-movie special effects are created and brought to life. Universal’s Horror Make-up Show features onstage demonstrations that deconstruct effects including blood-spurting fake knives, facial prosthetics, mechanical effects, and artificial limbs.

For the most part, Universal’s Horror Make-up Show is more sarcastic than it is scary, with humor leveraged remarkably well to diffuse any tension. There are a couple of shocking moments, but quickly devolve into laughs. Very young children might be scared of this, but that type of thing is difficult to predict. No older kids or adults should have issue. It’s mostly good-natured dad jokes with an interesting and engaging presentation of monster movie effects. As for a Walt Disney World comparison, it’s sort of like Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, but minus the action and with a behind the scenes look at a different type of movie-making.

Animal Actors on Location! (6.5/10) – Live outdoor stage show featuring dogs, birds, pigs, and other animal performers and their trainers as the actors do gags and tricks. Some of the animal actors have appeared in high-profile films and since “retired” to Universal Orlando. If you’ve been to a major zoo, you’ve probably seen a show like Animal Actors. This one is more polished and has higher production quality.

Animal Actors is like UP! A Great Bird Adventure Show at Walt Disney World, minus the meet & greet characters and plus other critters. If you’re afraid of birds, you might want to sit off to one side. Otherwise, there should be no issues with this show.

The Bourne Stuntacular (9/10) – This live action, indoor stage show features actors engaging in stunts, with special effects and music. The Bourne Stuntacular’s twist on this familiar theme park concept is that it utilizes a truly massive digital screen to instantly transport the show and audiences to any setting around the world.

In terms of a Walt Disney World comparison, it’s like Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular meets a behind the scenes Disney+ special about the Mandalorian. (That’ll only make sense if you know how the show is shot.) Should be good for all audiences that are down with action movies.

Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster (4.5/10) – A short “rite of passage” roller coaster for small children. Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster is incredibly similar to Magic Kingdom’s Barnstormer, just swap Goofy for Woody Woodpecker. Guests must be at least 36″ (92cm) to ride. Children between 36″—48″ (92cm-122cm) must be accompanied by a supervising companion.

Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration (9/10) – This is Universal Studios Florida’s nighttime spectacular that features music, water, and light. Cinematic Celebration features pulsating scores from Universal’s most iconic movies (Jurassic World, Fast & Furious, E.T., Harry Potter, etc.) with dancing fountains erupt and scenes are projected onto mist screens. There are also spotlights, pyro, and projections on the buildings that form the backdrop.

It’s Universal’s take on World of Color at Disney California Adventure. We don’t think it’s quite that good, but perhaps that’s our bias towards Disney intellectual property. (In my view, Universal leans a bit too heavily on recent hits over classics, which invariably makes things feel dated after a few years.) Nevertheless, it’s a stunning nighttime spectacular, and a satisfying end to your day at Universal Studios Florida!

Hi Mr. T! Luv you Dude, ’cause you keep us comfortably current! So, I gotta ask, what are the actual horizontal test seat widths (in inches) for rides like the Mummy & HP rides? I hear “healthy” folks(like me) with 40″ waists (notable hips and medium belly) will find rides challenging to enjoy or even do. Yet, we see videos of “heftier” folks implying they had fun on the same? Would you continue to be so kind and let us know, before we go, what to expect? Appreciate ya, Bro!

I also feel like your ride scores would benefit from a ‘moderator’ to reflect the similarity between so many of Universal’s rides:

Yes F&F is, at best, a 3/10 ride (and for that’s mainly for the queue), however, if you ride Kong first I would say the F&F score drops to -1 i.e. you walk off feeling you have wasted your time (in fairness there’s every chance you feel that anyway). Riding Transformers after Spiderman is a let down. Riding Gringotts after Transformers or Spiderman is a bit of a let down. It’s the same tech just with more track and an actual drop. Minions, Simpsons, Fallon and Shrek – they are all basically the same. If you ride Minions you will miss nothing positive by skipping the rest. ‘The rest’ therefore merit minus scores. And do you really gain from riding any of them after riding Spiderman, Transformers and Kong (I feel I am being generous including Kong here)? I would say ‘no’. You will have more fun at the raptor encounter!

Yes Disney has some similar rides, but (as a whole) they have so many more rides than Universal, and their similar rides are generally located in different parks, which combined make them less likely to be done on the same day.

I like Universal, but it’s an upscale take on the basic ‘rollercoaster’ theme parks that are all over the country–with the exception of the Harry Potter areas in both parks. Those are stunning and really make me wish Universal had planned the entire park with that level of detail.

I agree on most of the ride reviews with the notable exception of the Mummy–that restraint system is by far the most uncomfortable that I have ever experienced! I’m 6’2″ and average weight, and that bar constantly pushing HARD directly into my stomach was extremely painful. I honestly thought I would vomit at one point (of the many sudden stops on that ride). I couldn’t enjoy it or really even pay attention to the story thanks to that. I wish they could figure out a safe way to reconfigure that bar, as I won’t ever ride it again.

Finally went because I was sad about fast passes and while it was fun it wasn’t the same :/ also I agree with you their food is SO subpar compared to Disney! ALL of the food was two thumbs down except Mythos which was amazing. Also enjoyed the drinks and beer but def not Disney. Found the trick to getting motorbike tickets was watching for the drops during the day which a lot of the people who work there will actually tell you the times. Another thing I noticed was the customer service was blah as well compared to Disney, that should be obvious but I was still pretty shocked

We love both Uni and WDW, but I think that the best thing that Uni/IoA has going for it is that if you stay at one of their higher tier resorts like HRH you get unlimited fast pass all day for nearly everything. This means you don’t have to plan. You don’t have to choose where you want to eat three months in advance. I love this aspect.

How does the Attraction Assistance Pass Universal Studios Hollywood work?

The AAP is a paper card with the date, the name of the visitor, and the total number of visitors on the front. A barcode is also present for scanning. 

Some lines are on the back side for receiving return times as needed. 

Keep the card and show it to the attendant when you enter a ride or the Universal Express queue. 

The attendant will record your arrival time, the wait time currently in effect for the ride, and the time you can return to ride (equal to the wait time now in effect). 

Only one active return time may be held at any given time. 

The attendant will cross off the return time when you show up to ride the attraction so that you may get a fresh one.

The attendant will scan your card and direct you to the appropriate queue if the wait is under 45 minutes without requiring you to return. 

You can also use the pass to enter seated performances like WaterWorld. 

The attendant will direct you to a different waiting area, where you can arrive early and select the ideal seating for your party.

This outstanding, Venetian-inspired property, built mainly in the mid-1920s, consists of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, the Circus Museum, the Ca' d'Zan, and gardens.

The Circus Museum celebrates the history of this unique form of performance. It displays all kinds of circus costumes, props, posters, and other memorabilia, and features exhibits on the history of the famous Ringling Bros. One of the highlights is a massive scale model of the circus as it approaches, sets up, and leaves a location.

The Ca' d'Zan was the residence of John and Mable Ringling. Their inspiration for this waterfront Venetian-style mansion came from their travels in Europe and the great palaces of Venice. The 36,000-square-foot home was completed in 1926 and is an architectural masterpiece in southern Florida.

A visit to the art museum, housed in a stunning pink palace, is almost jarring after you view all the relatively low-brow circus memorabilia. It showcases the Ringling's extensive art collection, which includes classic pieces by Velazquez, El Greco, Van Dyke, Veronese, and Rubens. It may seem to the casual visitor like John and Mabel Ringling were trying to overcompensate for their humble beginnings by collecting and showcasing these pieces.

The Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg is located on the city's impressive waterfront and housed in a unique modern building designed to match the creativity of the artist himself. Curving glass appears to envelope the otherwise box-like structure, giving the building a very striking appearance.

Inside, the museum showcases pieces from throughout Dalí's career, providing a complete overview of his development as an artist. Even those with little knowledge of his mind-bending art will find this museum interesting and thought provoking.

The beaches on Florida's Gulf Coast are some of the best in the entire United States. Unlike their counterparts on the Atlantic Ocean, the water here is warm, generally calm, and often shallow. Beach resorts along this section make popular holiday destinations.

Of all the beach areas up and down this coast, some of the finest are located in Naples. Powdery sand, crystal-clear waters, and lots of room to set up your umbrella and chair are what you can expect. One of the liveliest areas is right near the historic Naples Pier, where you'll find volleyball courts and the greatest concentration of sunseekers.

Naples' beaches have a laid-back atmosphere and are rarely crowded outside of holidays. You can access the main stretches of beach from town, or for a more natural experience, visit one of the state or local parks up and down the coast. Florida's unique ecosystems, with the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, The Everglades, and the swamps and bayous of its northern portion, attract a wide assortment of birds. Starting in Pensacola, and winding its way all across the state, the trail lists 510 birding hot spots, divided into four regions: East, Panhandle, South, and West. Many of the sites are located in state, county, local, or national parks and are always identified with a distinctive brown sign with a bird flying through a stylized O.

One of Florida's hidden gems, Pensacola Beach and the Gulf Island National Seashore are home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the state. Blindingly white soft, squeaky sand is lapped by the green-blue crystalline waters of the Gulf of Mexico. You may bring a bestseller to read under your umbrella, but chances are you'll just end up gazing out at the amazing view.

Unlike beaches along Florida's East Coast, the beaches here are protected in many areas by the Gulf Island National Seashore Park. As a result, they have limited development, allowing for you to experience the seashore in its natural environment.

That isn't to say they are all natural. Pensacola Beach is one of the Panhandle's top beach destinations for its fun vibe, great restaurants, and affordable accommodations. While you are visiting, if you hear a roar in the sky, it's the Navy's Blue Angels aerial acrobatic team performing death-defying maneuvers.

Florida wouldn't be Florida without its weird and wonderful assortment of tourist attractions. Ask yourself, where else in the world can you go and see a live mermaid swimming in a freshwater spring?

Although it may seem a bit over the top, the show is actually quite entertaining and well worth a visit. Mermaids have been performing here for over 60 years, and a trip to Weeki Wachee is almost a rite of passage for many tourists. Grab one of the 400 seats in the underwater theater, and settle in for a show unlike anything you've ever seen.

The mermaid show is actually located in Weeki Wachee Springs State Park . Other things to do include slipping and sliding on the waterslides at Buccaneer Bay, or taking a river boat tour.

Wondering when it's best to go south? Depending on where you're headed (i.e. the Florida Panhandle and northern, cooler part of the state or the sunny Florida Keys) and what you're hoping to do during your vacation (i.e. soak up warm rays or ride roller coasters), the best time to visit Florida is twofold: between February and May and October and December .

If you've ever been unlucky enough to be in Florida when it snowed (yes, that's actually happened), you'll understand why it's important to get your vacation timing right. Let's face it, most of us head to the Sunshine State for, well, sunshine. And we're not looking for that cold bright sun that sometimes peaks from a winter cloud. We're talking about luxuriously hot rays that warm our bodies from the outside in. With that in mind, the best month to visit Florida is any month between February and May. At this time, you'll avoid the coldest months of the year (November through January), as well as those which are so stifling you'll wish for a blizzard (namely July and August). Oh, you'll also miss out on hurricane season, which runs from June to November (peaking between mid-August and mid-October). Here's a rundown of why you should visit during these months:

February: This early month sees highs that average around 75 degrees Fahrenheit in Miami and its lows dip to about 61. These temperatures will, of course, get warmer the farther south you go and colder for those heading north. The sun will shine on average for eight hours a day, and the sea temperature will be a refreshing 75 degrees. Rain only falls about six days of the month, so it's pretty dry and mild in February.

March : The highs are higher during this popular travel month, hitting about 77 degrees with lows of 64. Again, you won't see much rain, but you'll get an extra hour of sunshine over that found in February. Tourist numbers are on the up and up during this Spring Break month, which means you'll see more crowds. The popularity of March vacations in Florida also means you should be prepared for higher prices on everything from flights to hotel rooms to restaurants to attractions, especially if you're visiting during a school break.

April : This beautiful month offers warm temps (a high of 82) and even less rain (about 5 days) than its two predecessors. It's a busy travel month due to Easter, but once that's over, you'll see the crowds and inflated prices dissipate.

In terms of tourists, you won't have to fend them off since this is a shoulder month (a.k.a. that time between peak and off-peak seasons). In the case of Florida, the shoulder seasons can be found between April and May and September through November .

May : If you're looking for warmth, soak it up with the average highs of 87 degrees during this low-key month. You can enjoy low prices, lots of hotels to choose from, and much shorter lines at attractions, not to mention plenty of unimpeded space to stretch out on the silky soft beaches.

LOS ANGELES - Universal Studios Hollywood celebrates the Studio Tour's 60th anniversary this season with a new, "experiential" addition to their popular Los Angeles back lot tours. 

While guests are normally confined to keeping their arms and legs inside their vehicle during the tour, beginning April 26, Universal Studios Hollywood is flipping the script. The park invites guests to get off the tram to pose for photo opportunities in front of some legendary movie scenes, like Universal's "King Kong" and "Jaws" sets.

For a photo opportunity like never before, the anniversary event will also feature the first-ever original replica of the Hollywood Sign situated along the iconic back lot for guests to get up close to the iconic landmark.

During our SCRAPPED series, we have explored the different Walt Disney World attractions and resort hotels that sadly never came to be. This time we are going to journey over to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure to see what might have been, but we are going to do things a little differently. Back in 2014, Theme Park Tourist published an article going over 18 attractions at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure that never came to fruition. We are going to re-evaluate that list and see which attractions have seen new life and which attractions are still just what-ifs 8 years later. You can read the original article here .

18. Batman Island

Before Marvel Super Hero Island came to be, there were earlier plans to incorporate a Batman-themed land called Gotham Island into what was originally going to be Cartoon World (the original concept for Islands of Adventure). The immersive land would have included many rides themed around the caped crusader including the Batjets suspended coaster, Joker’s Madhouse wild mouse coaster, a Batcar dark ride, and even the iconic Batcave.

Unfortunately, it came down to money when Universal was negotiating with Warner Bros. to obtain the rights to the DC characters and Looney Tunes and Universal reportedly wasn’t offering enough so the plans fell through. The rights to those characters eventually landed with Six Flags and you can now find several Batman-themed rides across all their parks.

17. Batman vs. Penguin

The original concept for what would later become Dueling Dragons. The coaster would have featured two suspended coasters dueling. Although Batman vs. Penguin would have featured suspended jet-like ride vehicles.

16. Rocky the Flying Squirrel Coaster

This family coaster would have been incorporated into what is now Toon Lagoon. Not much else is known, other than it would have been themed around Rocky from Rocky and Bullwinkle.

15. Otto’s Bus Ride

It is rumored that Universal originally wanted to incorporate the famous Simpson family in Islands of Adventure rather than Universal Studios where they now reside. However, at the time the park was being developed, Universal was unable to obtain the rights to use the characters. This incorporation into Islands of Adventure would have included a simulator ride adventure where guests would board Otto’s school bus. We later got a different iterations of a simulator ride with The Simpsons Ride.

14. Simpsons Dark Ride

Around the time when Islands of Adventure was getting ready to open, Universal wanted to open a new attraction at the original park so that guests would still be drawn to Universal Studios too. Several ideas were floated, a few of which we will touch on later. One concept was a Simpsons dark ride. This would have seen the family taking a trip to Orlando and would have featured satirical depictions of many of the local parks and tourist spots. The ride they chose to build at the time ended up being Men in Black: Alien Attack and of course we got a whole Simpsons land several years later.

13. Apollo 13 Roller Coaster

Another attraction that was considered to draw people to Universal Studios was the Apollo 13 roller coaster. Allegedly, Universal liked the idea of a coaster because Islands of Adventure was set to feature three, Dueling Dragons and The Incredible Hulk. The indoor coaster would have been housed in a replica of the Kennedy Space Center Vehicle Assembly building. They also considered a disaster concept for the coaster but ultimately, it never came to be. The disaster concept was utilized in the retheming of the Earthquake attraction when it became Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride…Starring YOU, which is sadly now closed.

12. Jurassic Park Helicoptours

The Helicoptours was meant to be a simulator ride that reportedly would have introduced technology similar to Disney’s Soarin', but before Soarin’ even opened. During a tour of the dinosaur-infested land, riders would have been attacked by Pteranodons.

11. Jurassic Park Jeep Tour

This was supposedly going to be just like the movie where guests are taken on a tour of Jurassic Park and encounter dinosaurs along the way. It was decided that the ride was too similar to the already in-development River Adventure. It’s interesting to note, that Jurassic Park River Adventure was originally intended to be built in Universal Studios. but once the development of a new park began, they decided to move it to the new park and incorporate a whole themed land. In fact, including the Jurassic Park-themed land is rumored to be a big reason why the Cartoon World concept was scrapped.

10. Raptor Racers

The original concept for a raptor-themed coaster was for a wooden coaster. It is said it would have also featured a dark ride portion and some type of ride track movement. This idea sounds similar to what riders experience on Hagrid’s Magical Motorbike Adventure more so than the incredible raptor-themed coaster we have today. As you may know, we have finally gotten a raptor-themed coaster called Jurassic World VelociCoaster, but it is a bit more modern than the original concept and offers a fun, fast, and twisted ride.

Spiderman 3D was originally supposed to even be Batman 3D. The whole thing was designed for Batman, and they had to change it up to Spiderman when Universal acquired the rights to Marvel instead of DC. That's why there's a "Spidey Signal" at the start of the ride. There is no Spidey Signal in the movies, cartoons or comics, and that was supposed to the the Bat Signal, so they had to just make that up for the ride.

Universal Studios reveals more details over proposed new theme park in Bedfordshire

Universal Studios has begun engaging with the public over its plan to build a theme park in Bedfordshire.

T he company has purchased around 480 acres of land just south of Bedford, between the villages of Kempston, Wootton, Stewartby and Wixams.

They also have the option buy a smaller parcel of land to the southwest, taking the total proposed site to around 700 acres.

Universal Destinations & Experiences has five theme parks around the world, in America, Japan, China and Singapore.

It is now deciding if Bedfordshire could be the location for its sixth resort and its first in Europe.

Universal has suggested it will seek planning permission directly from the Government, via a special development order (SDO).

If it goes ahead, construction could take around five to six years.

A public consultation into the plans is underway, with people able to have their say until Friday 3 May.

Public engagement events are being held today in Kimberley College, Stewartby, and another will be held in Bedford College on Tuesday.

An information pack with more details about the proposal has been released to the public.

In it the firm says: "The UK is a very attractive market for a new theme park experience with its large population, creative industries, strong tourism, transportation infrastructure, and links to Europe.

"In 2023, the UK welcomed 38 million tourists, and this number is growing. These visitors are expected to spend approximately £34 billion annually, supporting a wide range of valuable employment opportunities across several sectors.

"Our parent company Comcast Corporation has a strong presence in the UK, with NBCUniversal International and Sky’s headquarters both based here."

The site includes the former Kempston Hardwick brickworks, as well as some fields to the south, none of which form part of the Green Belt.

Universal says the area is already allocated for development by the council through the proposed Local Plan.

They add that its location is convenient for fast rail links to London and London Luton Airport. It also has the flat topography that is important for a large-scale theme park resort.

The East West Rail (EWR) project also plans to deliver additional transport improvements locally, specifically improvements to the existing railway between Bletchley and Bedford.

The company added: "This project has the potential to be transformative for Bedford and deliver significant benefits for the UK economy.

"Our developments create thousands of jobs, help to drive footfall to existing local businesses, and unlock major investment into other local enterprises and infrastructure."

Universal has not commented on what rides or attractions would be at the park.

The company said: "We recognise the tremendous excitement our theme parks and developments bring, yet it is too early in the process to know the possibilities of featured attractions and experiences.

"Should we proceed with the project, we would confirm these at a later stage."

What do we know about Universal's UK plans?

U niversal Destinations and Experiences has movie-related resorts in places like Hollywood in the United States, Osaka in Japan and Beijing in China. It currently has its sights on a new theme park in Bedfordshire. What do we know so far?

Late last year it emerged Universal Destinations and Experiences had bought a 480-acre (194ha) parcel of land south of Bedford with a view to building a new theme park and resort experience there.

The firm is now carrying out four weeks of public consultation before deciding whether or not to go ahead it.

The plot includes the former Kempston Hardwick brickworks and sits near the A6 and the A421 between Stewartby to the south, Wootton to the west and Kempston to the north.

It is a tract of land that Bedford Borough Council has identified for development and Universal says it is flat enough and large enough to build a "large-scale theme park resort" on.

Stewartby is 60 miles (100km) north of London, with its own railway station and close to the M1 and Luton Airport. Universal says the plot is "well connected for travel from all parts of the UK".

If built, it would become Universal's sixth resort and its only one in Europe.

Universal says it has also acquired the option to buy another parcel of land to the south west of the main plot which, if the project moves forward, would "allow a direct link" with the A421.

What is planned?

We know very little at the moment as to what attractions and rides the resort would actually offer.

The Hollywood park offers tours of its movie studios, rides based on films such as Minions, Harry Potter and Jurassic World, and themed "lands" such as Super Nintendo World and Transformers Metrobase.

Universal itself says "it is too early in the process to know the possibilities of featured attractions and experiences" in Bedfordshire.

What we do know from the masterplan, however, is that four zones are planned - a "core zone", in which the theme park and hotel would be, a "lake zone", and two gateway zones (one to the east and one to the west).

The actual theme park would be at the southern end of the site and would arc its way around the hotel, retail and entertainment area.

Also planned is a 4,200-space car park to accommodate the expected 35% of visitors who arrive by car.

Because of the scale of the project, any planning decision on it is expected to be made by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities rather than the local council.

Could Bedfordshire's infrastructure cope?

Theme park history expert Dr Sabrina Mittermeier says Bedford will be forever changed if it is built.

She says theme parks bring considerable economic benefits to those surrounding them - but sometimes that comes at a cost.

"In the 1990s when Euro Disney was created, the French government was very interested in bringing Disney to France in terms of jobs, tourism and development," said Dr Mittermeier, a research associate at the University of Kassel in Germany and author of A Cultural History of the Disneyland Theme Parks.

"Usually, the local population supports it for the economic reasons. But you need to build a lot of infrastructure and all that comes out of state funds. France had to put in a lot of money to pay for road and rail improvements to accommodate millions of visitors."

In its information pack, Universal says if its plans went forward it would "help facilitate" a number of upgrades including:

• The construction of Wixams railway station
• The delivery of a new station on the East West Rail line near the resort
• Dedicated, direct slip roads from the A421 to accommodate circa 85% of its road traffic
• An upgraded Manor Road, to tie in with new railway bridge being delivered by Network Rail to replace the Manor Road level crossing

If building goes ahead, Universal says up to 5,000 workers would be involved.

The firm claims about 8,000 jobs would be created in the area once the resort became operational. After two decades, it claims that number would rise to 10,000.

"This project would become one of the largest single employers in Bedford, the surrounding areas, and indeed the UK," the firm says in its information pack.

"Evidence from our other theme parks suggests that for every job supported within the theme park, it can be expected that at least 1.5 further jobs would be supported across the economy, meaning a net additional 20,000 jobs would be supported by the project at its peak."

Universal says it wants to employ "local residents first" and believes 75% of its workforce would come from Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes.

What happens next?

Universal has started a 28-day period of "public engagement".

It says it wants to know what those living in the area think of the resort idea before it makes an application for planning permission.

"Collaboration and community engagement remain at the core of how we do business around the world," the firm says in its letter to residents.

"This public engagement represents an important milestone in our feasibility work; however, it will still be some time before any decisions are made on whether or not to proceed with this project."

Public exhibitions will be held on Saturday from 11:00 until 16:00 BST at Kimberley College in Stewartby and on Tuesday from 16:30 until 20:00 at Bedford College's Modern Methods of Construction building.
