Booking a Helicopter Ride Helicopter flights range from the adventurous to the romantic, from quick joyrides to comprehensive tours. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect, what you can see, and what style of helicopter flight might suit you best. How much is a helicopter ride? Helicopter rides vary in price depending on the amount of time you want to be in the air and the type of helicopter used for the tour. No matter how much are helicopter tours, they are the best way to view sites unobstructed.
What to wear on a helicopter ride? Dress according to the season. In the summer months, it is best to wear sunglasses and sunscreen.
What to Expect on Your Helicopter Ride After arriving at the heliport, you’ll be briefed on safety protocol before buckling up and readying for take-off. Photographers might want to ask about wearing a harness instead of a traditional seatbelt in order to capture shots from as many angles as possible (be advised, not all flight offer this option). As you soar through the skies, information about the sites below will be provided either through prerecorded headset narration or live by your pilot. Some tours even feature a landing, giving you photo ops from all angles. One great advantage of a helicopter tour is the ability to sightsee from many viewpoints in the space of minutes. Feel like circling directly above the Statue of Liberty? Or getting up close to her torch? Or swooping low over the water to snap a shot from below her feet? It’s all possible on a helicopter ride. How Many People Can a Helicopter Ride Accommodate? It depends largely on the model. Capacity ranges from the slick Robinson R22, which can only take one passenger, to the luxurious EcoStar that can accommodate up to seven. Most helicopters used on tours can seat three to five people. Some tours even offer the opportunity to sit next to the pilot. It is worth pointing out that not all tours are private, and that passenger seating is usually determined by weight. Therefore, you’re not always guaranteed a seat next to friends or family. To play it safe, book a tour on a chopper that you know you can fill (also, keep your eyes peeled for private flights, available in most major cities). Flying with the Doors Off A doors-off flight is the helicopter ride of choice for any serious photographer. And even if you’re not a pro photographer, let’s be honest—could anything be more heart-pounding than soaring with only a seatbelt separating you from the open sky? While these flights do require some extra precautions, your pilot will brief you on all steps necessary to secure your items and ensure a safe ride. Many helicopter models including the Robinson R22 and R44 accommodate this type of adventure. What Do You See on a Helicopter Flight? A helicopter ride is an exhilarating way to learn the geography of a new place. It’s also the perfect chance to revisit beloved landmarks from new vantage points. For shutterbugs, capturing photos from the air is infinitely more rewarding than sending up a drone and tapping buttons on a remote. There are more than 5,000 operational heliports in the United States. If you have a specific location in mind, chances are there’s a tour available for you! Grand Canyon Helicopter Flights Spanning almost 2,000 square miles, the Grand Canyon could take a lifetime to explore. Fewer than thirty people are known to have hiked all the way through it, a feat requiring many months and extreme planning. Luckily, you can experience the canyon’s sheer vastness with far fewer mosquito bites on a Grand Canyon helicopter flight. There are two major take-off points to choose from: the South Rim and the West Rim. If you’re already vacationing at the Grand Canyon, lift off from the convenient airport near Tusayan on the South Rim to see the canyon’s most iconic scenery. Those staying in Las Vegas, Boulder City, or Phoenix can be picked up directly from their hotel and shuttled to an airport on the west side of the canyon, from where you fly over the Hoover Dam before heading to the West Rim. Tours from both airports range from a quick 15 minutes in the air to all-day excursions that include canyon landings, Wild West performances, or pontoon boat rides. Helicopter flights are available year-round, which is especially interesting given that the road to the North Rim is closed to the public during the winter season (up in the air is the only way to see it!). Grand Canyon helicopter rides generally take place in an EC130 EcoStar, which features sightseer-friendly wraparound windows. Flights are also available on an ultra-quiet H125, a chopper specially engineered to withstand extreme environments. Hawaii Helicopter Rides Take in the stunning scenery of America’s 50th state. Cruise over Maui or Oahu Island and see volcanoes, waterfalls, white beaches, and the incredibly blue ocean from the most dramatic of viewpoints. Maui Island is composed of two shield volcanoes connected by a low isthmus. A Maui helicopter ride can fly you over all the island’s must-see landscapes such as Haleakala National Park, home of the world’s largest dormant volcano; Iao Valley State Park, once forbidden to all but Hawaiian royalty; and the lush jungle and rocky cliffs of the island’s 100+ miles of coastline. A helicopter flight over Oahu showcases a combination of landmarks both natural and manmade. Soar over the rim of Diamond Head—the extinct volcanic crater that looms over the city of Honolulu—and swoop into “Jurassic Valley” before you fly past Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. For the daring, Oahu helicopter experiences include a few doors-off options. NYC Helicopter Flights The Big Apple has it right there in the name: it’s big. When considering its five sprawling boroughs, notoriously unreliable public transit, and reputation for heavy traffic, the savvy tourist quickly realizes that the best way to see the highlights of New York City is by air. Moreover, New York City is the most photographed city in the world. Treat yourself to a fresh experience by choosing a helicopter tour. Sure, you know what the Statue of Liberty looks like, but can you imagine what it’s like flying past her crown? And no matter how much time you spend wandering Central Park, you’ll never get the full sense of Frederick Law Olmsted’s master design like you would from the air. NYC helicopter tour highlights normally include the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, and Brooklyn Bridge. Longer tours go deeper into Manhattan and around Governor’s Island. Both daytime and nighttime flights are available, each with their own pros and cons. A daytime flight offers the best views of Central Park and a chance to see more details of the city in general whereas a night tour lets you see Lady Liberty all lit up against the electric skyline. Whichever you choose, your NYC helicopter flight lets you witness a unique side of the City that Never Sleeps. Las Vegas Helicopter Rides It’d be easy to spend a whole weekend (if not longer) in Vegas and never stray from the short path between your hotel, your luckiest casino, and your late-night haunt of preference (they might even be one and the same place)! But the next time you’re in Sin City, shake things up on a Las Vegas helicopter tour. No need to brave the sweltering desert heat: Las Vegas is the rare destination that is definitively best viewed at night, so leave your sunglasses in the hotel room. Naturally, everything done in the city of glitz and glamor is done in style. You’ll be chauffeured from your hotel to the heliport in a limousine and offered a glass of Champagne before you lift off on your helicopter flight. Your tour takes you over all the massive hotels, each competing for the most grandiose display of neon lights. See scale-model reproductions of world landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Luxor Pyramid. Witness the dancing waters and colored light display of the Bellagio Fountain. In a town as wild as Vegas, a chance to rise above and see the city in her full splendor is an opportunity not to be missed. Flights All Across America Of course, lots of other destinations offer helicopter tours, too. Los Angeles is a popular spot with its dazzling combo of mountains, desert, and beach. So are cities like San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Chicago (great for architecture buffs). If you’re keen on natural splendor, check out a helicopter tour over Sedona, Hilton Head, or Niagara Falls. Should you find yourself in Anchorage, there are even helicopter tours over glaciers paired with dog sled rides! Pilot Your Own Helicopter Aspiring aviators, you’re in luck. Get behind the controls on an introductory helicopter pilot lesson—no prior experience required! These adventures are offered in many major cities including New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Cruising through the air in a helicopter is a feeling unlike any other. When piloting a plane, you feel the forward momentum. A helicopter, by contrast, gives the uncanny sensation of floating in the air. You have total control in all dimensions. It’s a serious rush. A helicopter pilot lesson begins with a safety briefing and a session in a flight simulator. Once you feel confident in your navigational skills, it’s off to the tarmac. All safety precautions are taken as you lift off under the watchful eye of an FAA-certified pilot. As you soar through the sky, your co-pilot is there beside you to take control of the aircraft in the event you’re unsure of anything. Helicopter flight lessons generally last around 30 minutes. A Wide Variety of Flights You’ll find different styles of helicopter flights at just about any destination. Helicopters are versatile creatures: they can offer adventure or romance, total exhilaration or luxury and comfort. Sunrise or Sunset Flights? Photographers looking to capture dramatic lighting (or anyone who appreciates the beauty of a picturesque golden hour) should consider a sunset or sunrise tour. These tours uniquely offer the opportunity to shoot during a variety of lighting conditions, broadening your chances of nailing the perfect shot or perhaps creating a compelling photo series. Thrilling Joyrides or Romantic Outings? Some helicopter tours are geared to the adventurer: doors-off and hurtling through the sky. Others (especially private tours) are all but designed to end in a marriage proposal, diamond ring not included. To ensure a romantic mood, choose a private VIP experience. And pay attention to the parameters of your tour to make sure you don’t end up drinking Champagne on a mountaintop with your daredevil buddies or screaming for your life above a volcano with the girl of your dreams—unless, of course, that’s your thing. Quick Excursions or Full-Day Tours? No matter your budget or how much time you have, there’s a helicopter ride for you. A quick 15-minute jaunt offers a chance to get the lay of the land and experience the thrill of flight. Longer tours let you do some serious sightseeing and often include a landing and photo op mid-flight. Full-day experiences are generally packaged with another activity like a picnic lunch, a Jeep tour, or a horseback ride, depending on what area you’re travelling. A Flight to Remember A helicopter flight is often the centerpiece of a long-planned vacation. It can also be a chance to celebrate a special moment in style, or an opportunity to see familiar sights with fresh eyes. Whatever your reason for flying, no matter the destination, you’re in for a treat. The sheer joy of hovering hundreds of feet above the ground in a tiny machine is likely to be the highlight of your year.

Arrange A Helicopter Charter with ACS
With more than 30 years of experience, our teams of charter experts around the US are available 24/7 to organize your helicopter charter from start to finish, ensuring everything is tailored to your unique requirements.
What Helicopter Charters Have to Offer
Helicopter charters offer a level of flexibility not commonly found with fixed-wing aircraft. From point-to-point city travel to direct access to remote areas, helicopter charters can cater to a range of travel requirements.
Fly when you need to: Just like our private jet charters, your helicopter charter is organized around your schedule and unique preferences.
Access to remote or difficult-to-reach areas: A helicopter has the ability to land at helipads, hotels and even private properties, making it possible to quickly reach remote areas or specific locations that would otherwise be inaccessible by private jet or even by car.
Save time: If you need to reach multiple locations in a day, a helicopter is a point-to-point travel method that can pick you up and get you to your destination quickly.
Versatility: Whether you are traveling for your vacation, have an important business meeting, or transporting medical supplies in a crisis situation, a helicopter charter can provide the quickest and most direct charter solution.
Why Charter a Helicopter with ACS?
Experience: With more than 30 years of charter experience, we are specialists at arranging private helicopter charters for a wide range of clients and situations, including VIP transport and emergency rescue situations.

HELICOPTER CHARTER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What’s the process of chartering a helicopter.
The charter process begins with you being assigned a personal charter expert who will put together and send you a selection of available charter helicopters and quotes based on your requirements. Each quote has a clear breakdown of all aspects of the charter flight, such as the selected aircraft and departure and arrival locations, and why they have been chosen. Once you have decided which option works for you, your personal charter expert will book the helicopter flight and send you all the necessary flight information.
If you have any other queries or requests prior to the flight, you will be able to contact your account manager 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Which Helicopter Should I Charter?
Your dedicated account manager will provide you with a suitable range of helicopters based on your requirements and will assist you with making your final decision. View our aircraft guide for more information on the helicopters that we can source for charter.
Where Can Helicopters Land/Take Off?
Helicopter charters provide an unrivaled level of flexibility in regard to take-off and landing locations since they require far less space than fixed-wing aircraft. A helicopter can arrive and depart from remote helipads, hotels, yachts and even private properties, allowing you to get closer to your desired destination. There are certain factors that need to be taken into consideration when arranging a take-off and landing location, however, our experts will discuss all of the necessary details with you when organizing your helicopter charter.
How Much Luggage Can I Take On A Helicopter
The amount of luggage you can take will depend on the size of the hold and the number of passengers flying. As a rule of thumb, we advise one 10kg soft-sided bag per person. This can be increased if, for example, you have a six-passenger helicopter with only one passenger. If a suggested helicopter doesn’t suit your luggage requirements, an alternative will be arranged.
How Many Passengers Can Travel In A Helicopter?
The maximum number of people we recommend for a helicopter charter is typically nine. If you have more passengers than that, we’ll arrange for multiple helicopters to fly the same route. View our aircraft guide for further information
Can a Helicopter Fly in Bad Weather?
Helicopters are subject to weather but they aren’t just for sunny days. Their ability to operate in adverse weather depends on several factors, including the severity of the conditions and the type of aircraft. Our team will keep you informed of weather conditions in the days leading up to the flight and will work with you to rearrange if necessary.

Hear Why Sightseers Love Us on TripAdvisor
On our holiday to New York City it was on our list to have a helicopter ride! What a fabulous experience! I was very fortunate to sit with the pilot, Andrew from Dublin (I am from Wales so it was a great connection instantly), and he gave me one of the best life experiences. It was amazing!! Between the Statue of Liberty, the NYC skyline, and the bridges, I can’t recommend it enough!
Loved every minute of this trip. It is well worth the money spent. A big thank you to the pilot - he looked after us, explaining everything whilst taking us to the heliport. The waiting area was clean and the guys were friendly. He was very friendly and chatty, wanting to know where everyone came from. I really recommend this trip if you want an unforgettable experience.
I spent a few days in New York City with my girlfriend and we did a lot of things, but without a doubt, the highlight of our trip was Manhattan Helicopters. The service was so efficient that we were flying in no time, but the best part was the friendliness of the place, especially from Santiago and Osvaldo Vigo. Those two gentlemen were amazing!! Highly recommend the tour to anybody.
I booked the VIP tour, which included 25 minutes of helicopter tour. As soon as I arrived, they got me on the flight with my 8-year-old daughter, and everything was in order and done in a very professional manner. The ride was awesome, as we got the front row, right next to the pilot so we could see the panoramic view, which was a great experience.

Thank You Wings Air Helicopter Team
We had a lot of luggage to load as well but he and his team managed to fit it all in. Our little one then started singing a nursery rhyme to keep herself calm, Anthony knew the words and immediately joined in, it was magical our daughter, now calm, and the pilot singing as we took off. And what a flight it was, over the city, all the usual sights then up sate. Thank you, Anthony, Anna and all the Wings Helicopter team for your incredible professionalism and expertise, we were safe in your hands and can’t wait to fly with you again. (TripAdvisor)
Special Surprise Trip
We arranged a special surprise trip with Wings Helicopters for our 2 young daughters on Christs Eve last. Its was to be a tour of New York City, then a short flight to our final destination up sate. When we arrived at the Heliport on East 30th and told the girls our youngest burst into tears as she was so nervous of flying. Anthony, our pilot, took her in hand and was absolutely superb. (Trip Advisor)
The Flight Was Amazing
This was so much better than I expected!! We were picked up and driven to a lovely private airport with a nice waiting area where we were greeted by our pilot and his colleague who made us feel at ease. The flight was amazing and the pictures you take are out of this world. The pilot, Nick, will accommodate you in any way he can so you get the perfect picture and he has a great sense of humor! I would definitely do this again!! Thank you. (TripAdvisor)

The World's Best Places For A Helicopter Tour
Posted: November 15, 2023 | Last updated: November 16, 2023
Earth is filled with the most beautiful natural landscapes of dazzling skylines, crystal-clear water, and majestic mountaintops. These wonders can be reached several ways, but there's something special about traveling by helicopter. Exploring the world in a helicopter gives people an amazing aerial view that can't be seen by any other mode of transportation.
Getting the chance to do this could have you riding over waterfalls, dipping past the Grand Canyon, or seeing a private view of the iconic Hollywood sign. If you're ready for the adventure of a lifetime, consider taking at least one of these scenic helicopter tours.
Fly High Above The Grand Canyon
If you're traveling around the Grand Canyon by foot or car there's only so much you can see in one visit, not to mention having to battle the crowds to get a good spot. The carved rocks were formed billions of years ago and stretch almost 300 miles along the Colorado River and the Arizona desert.
This is why it makes for a perfect helicopter tour. Not only do riders get to see the ins and outs of the canyon, but they will also get to fly over the Vegas Strip, Hoover Dam, and the Mojave Desert. Some tours have permission to land inside the canyon where guests can take a riverboat ride or trip along the Skywalk.
Escape The Tourists While Riding Around Rio de Janeiro
South America's most-visited city is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with almost two and a half million new visitors every year. The sights most people want to see are usually flooded with tourists, but taking a helicopter tour can give you a private view of this lively city.
Here, tourists can get an aerial view of Ipanema Beach, Copacabana, the Maracanã Soccer Stadium, Sugarloaf, and the statue of Christ the Redeemer. Christ the Redeemer is one of the world's most photographed manmade sites and seeing it by helicopter can give riders unique vantage points.
Climb Mt. Everest Without Breaking A Sweat
Climbing Mt. Everest in Nepal is quite a bucket list adventure, but there are other ways of reaching the top. This 29,029-foot mountain is the tallest mountain in the world, so the trek is nothing short of a challenge. The helicopter tour of the mountain will allow people to reach the top without having to step foot on the ground.
The tour starts at Kathmandu and goes upward toward Sherpa village, Lukla, Tengboche, Dingboche, Gorakshep, and the Khumbu glacier. Riders will fly though the majestic Himalayan mountain range and land at the Everest Base Camp, which is located at 17,598-feet above sea level.
This Kauai Helicopter Tour Is Like A Scene Out Of A Movie
There's a reason why films such as Jurassic Park , Indiana Jones , and Pirates of the Caribbean shot many of their scenes against the gorgeous backdrop of Kauai. This small Hawaiian island runs along the shores of the Na Pali coastline and features secluded tidal pools, grottos, and waterfalls.
There are several helicopter tours in Hawaii that will take guests through Kauai's scenic landscape, but they don't stop there. Most tours go to other islands where guests can see other landmarks including the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the Kohala Coast.
See The Stars While Roaming Over The Hollywood Hills
Those who want to fly over Hollywood, California are in luck because there are numerous tours that will do just that. These services offer some luxury amenities including a champagne toast with cheesecake and berries, a private sunset ride, and a recording of a 360-degree virtual reality video.

Dive Above The Ocean Floor At The Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia is the world's biggest coral reef, which stretches over 1,429 miles. Many visitors go there to dive below the water, but a helicopter tour will give them an unforgettable aerial view.
Many have reported sightings of sea creatures such as sharks, turtles, and stingrays from their helicopter tours. Also, those who want to see both above and below the reef should find the tours that offer snorkel and dive stops on anchored pontoons. If you choose to take a longer trip, they stop in other areas of Australia including the Daintree Rainforest, Cairns Highlands, and the Mossman and Baron gorges.
Get Ready To View Island Paradise In Turks And Caicos
Anyone looking for a tropical getaway will get all they want and more at the British Overseas Territory of Turks and Caicos. There are swaying palm trees, bright white sand, and clear blue water throughout the 40 islands. Most tours visit many Turks and Caicos attractions including Chalk Sound National Park, Grace Bay Beach, Iguana Island, and Pine Cay.
When guests fly over the water they are sometimes able to spot sharks, stingrays, dolphins, and whales. Something helpful about the helicopter tours in Turks and Caicos is how they are very flexible and cater to visitors' time and budgets.
Catch A Glimpse Of The World's Most Majestic Waterfalls In Iguazú Falls
One of the best ways to view the famous Iguazú Falls is by helicopter. It's located on the border between Brazil and Argentina and is thought to be one of the great wonders of nature. This area has the largest and longest waterfalls in the world with over 275 drops with the deepest being 269-feet long.
When visitors fly over the falls they can get a bird's eye view of the iconic Devils' Throat canyon and the surrounding jungle. Some helicopter tours will stop near walkways where people can step right in front of the waterfalls.
See New York City From All Angles
Getting to see all of New York City by foot can take several days. It's the most populated city in the United States and not everyone has the energy to get through the crowds. Helicopter tours of the city allow tourists to see how large New York actually is, while getting a grand view of its iconic layout.
Most tours start at the southern tip of Manhattan and travel through several famous attractions including the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, One World Trade Center, Wall Street, Yankee Stadium, Central Park, the Empire State Building, and much more.
Take To The Skies At The Amalfi Coast
Italy's Amalfi Coast is nothing short of an extraordinary view. Their seaside cliffs are a top vacation spot for about five million people every year. While some may want to spend their Italian vacation lounging at the beach or exploring the nearby fishing villages, the town actually makes for a memorable helicopter trip.
Seeing Italy by helicopter allows visitors to experience the true beauty of the area. People have the option of viewing additional cities after the Amalfi Coast such as Capri, Naples, Ischia, and Sorrento. There's also an option to fly into Pompeii and explore it from the ground.
Zip Through The Sights Of Cape Town, South Africa
One of the most popular helicopter tour options in Cape Town, South Africa is the "Two Oceans" flight where riders can fly over both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. You'll also get to fly behind Table Mountain and the Twelve Apostles mountain range, which are some of the greatest natural wonders in Africa.
If you get a chance to ride above Muizenberg Beach, you might be able to see some great white sharks. Once you finish with the helicopter tours there are plenty of other ways to see Cape Town including safaris, gourmet picnics, and shark cage diving.
Soar Above The Skyscrapers In Hong Kong
Something that visitors can't miss in Hong Kong, China is their skyscraper skyline. Look Out For Wild Animals At Serengeti National Park
Safaris may be the perfect way to get an up-close view of wild animals, but a helicopter ride can allow you to take them all in at once. One of the places visitors are bound to see thousands of wild animals is the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.
