Netflix original [ ]

On December 13, 2018, Taylor thanked everyone for her birthday wishes on Instagram and also announced that there was going to be a tour movie for the Reputation Stadium Tour that would be released on New Year's Eve, titled Taylor Swift: reputation Stadium Tour . It was filmed at the last Dallas/Arlington show, which was the final US leg date. It featured the surprise song " All Too Well ".

Taylor Swift designed her own stage, complete with an elevator, and a rapid changing room for her eight costumes.

The main screen was 110 feet tall and and made of 12 columns and 1,5OO LED tiles that split into 49 individual screens that moved depending on the song. The stage design is an X shape and it also features a B & C Stage that Taylor accessed with the floating constellation and snake gondolas during " Delicate " and the " Bad Blood "/" Should've Said No " mashup. The band played right behind the main screen and during certain parts of the show, the screen opened and the audience could see them.

During " Look What You Made Me Do ", there was a giant inflatable snake named Karyn on the stage as well as smaller inflatable snakes on the B & C Stage and for the show encore, a water fountain was installed on stage. There were also fire, smoke and fireworks effects throughout the show from the stage. The LED bracelets distributed to the attendees were interactive with the songs and stage visuals.

The Reputation Stadium Tour, Taylor Swift’s first all-stadium venture, represents a significant chapter in her illustrious career, showcasing her evolution from a small-town girl to an international icon.

This ambitious project not only highlighted Swift’s musical genius but also redefined the contours of live music entertainment . Commencing on May 8, 2018, in Glendale, Arizona, the tour embarked on an unforgettable journey that left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions.

The Genesis of a Superstar: Early Years in Reading, Pennsylvania

Taylor Swift’s journey to stardom began in Reading, Pennsylvania, where she was born and raised. From an early age, Swift displayed an uncanny knack for storytelling and melody, crafting songs that resonated with her personal experiences and aspirations. This foundation in Reading laid the groundwork for her meteoric rise, imbuing her music with authenticity and emotional depth that would become her signature.

Embarking on the Stadium Saga

The Reputation Stadium Tour marked a monumental shift in Swift’s live performance strategy. Transitioning from arenas to stadiums, Swift undertook a bold step that few artists could dream of, let alone achieve. This move was not just about the scale of the venues but also about creating a more immersive and impactful experience for fans. It was a testament to Swift’s draw as a global superstar and her ability to connect with audiences on a massive scale.

The Inaugural Show in Glendale: A Night to Remember

On May 8, 2018, the city of Glendale, Arizona, witnessed the inception of the Reputation Stadium Tour, a concert that set the tone for what was to become an epic journey across stadiums. This first show was a spectacle of lights, energy, and music, blending Swift’s new songs with her classics, and setting the stage for a tour that would be remembered for its grandeur and artistic integrity.

Paying Homage to Pennsylvania Roots: Lincoln Financial Field Performance

As Taylor Swift took her Reputation Stadium Tour across the nation, she not only showcased her musical prowess but also paid homage to her Pennsylvania roots, performing in iconic stadiums that are landmarks in the sports world.

For instance, her concert at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field was not just a musical event but a gathering place for local fans who share a love for both Swift’s artistry and the spirited competition found in sports.

This blending of music and sports culture offers a nod to the common ground shared by concert-goers and sports betting and casino enthusiasts in Pennsylvania, who revel in the excitement of a well-played game and a well-performed concert alike.

The Artistry of Live Performances: A Blend of Music and Spectacle

The Setlist: A Musical Journey

The tour’s setlist was a carefully curated mix of tracks from the “Reputation” album alongside fan favorites and hits from her previous albums. This selection ensured that the concerts appealed to long-time Swifties as well as newcomers to her music. By balancing her newer, edgier tracks with the classic hits, Swift offered a comprehensive overview of her musical evolution.

Audience Engagement: Connecting With Fans

A hallmark of Swift’s concerts is her ability to forge a personal connection with her audience, and the Reputation Stadium Tour was no exception. Swift went beyond mere performance, sharing anecdotes and experiences that resonated with her fans, creating an atmosphere of intimacy amidst the vastness of the stadiums. This personal touch made each concert feel unique and left fans with the sense that they were part of something truly special.

The Impact on Live Music: Redefining Concert Experiences

It pushed the boundaries of what live music events could be, influencing both contemporaries and upcoming artists to think bigger and bolder in their concert presentations.

Legacy of the Tour: A Milestone in Swift’s Career

The Reputation Stadium Tour is remembered not just for its commercial success but as a pivotal moment in Taylor Swift’s career. It solidified her status as one of the most influential artists of her generation, capable of pulling off an unprecedented stadium tour. Why Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ Tour Is Her Finest Yet

By Rob Sheffield

Rob Sheffield

The biggest moment in Taylor Swift ‘s amazing Reputation stadium tour turns out to be one of the quietest. Near the end of the night, Swift sits at the piano by herself to play a few elusively familiar chords. “You might be wondering why there are so many snakes everywhere,” she says. The song she’s playing ends up being the 2010 Speak Now classic “Long Live,” which she transforms into a medley with the Reputation finale “New Year’s Day” – two of her best, from very different phases of her artistic evolution, but songs with a common emotional ground, whether it’s about “fighting dragons” or snakes. She eases back and forth between the songs, from the lush adolescent romanticism of “Long Live” into the mundane domestic detail of “New Year’s Day,” right up to the hook line: “I had the time of my life … with you.” What a moment – a powerhouse performance that made all the different Taylors sound like part of the same story.

Swift kicked off the first night of her hotly awaited Reputation tour last night at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, in front of 60,000 fans, and for the most part she went epic, with giant inflatable cobras, pyro, multiple stages and hordes of dancers. As always, she leaned hard into the new material, doing almost everything on the new Reputation (the one she left out was “So It Goes”), yet with her own uniquely intimate touch. This might be her most astounding tour yet – even when she’s aiming for maximum stadium-rock razzle-dazzle bombast, she gives it all the vibe of a mass communion. She didn’t reach deep into her back catalog, beyond a few earth-shaking surprises like “Long Live” or her solo-acoustic revival of “All Too Well.” Even when she goes back to the oldies, she sticks to her fanatical commitment to making them new. No pop star goes to such absurd extremes to avoid repeating herself, even when repeating herself would be more than good enough. The girl just likes a challenge, even if that means she wants to stand under a surreal inflatable snake to sing her heartfelt confessions about autumn leaves and maple lattes.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

The theme, as she did mention a time or two, was snakes. Not since Jim Morrison was alive has any rock star gone so overboard with the herpetological symbolism. As she explained, “A couple of years ago, someone called me a snake on social media and it caught on. And then a lot of people called me a lot of things on social media. And I went through some really low times for a while because of it.” But for Swift – as so often – there was a lesson to be learned in this harsh experience. “You shouldn’t care so much if you feel misunderstood by a lot of people who don’t know you, as long as you feel understood by people who do know you, who will show up for you, the people who see you as a human being…it’s you . You did that for me.”

the reputation tour

She picked up her acoustic guitar for “Dancing With Our Hands Tied,” noting, “You guys have stuck with me through so many musical changes. You’ve let me play – you’ve let me evolve.” There were gasps through the crowd as she followed that with the opening chord of “All Too Well,” saying, “I thought I would play this song that you seem to request more than any others. It would be so cool if you sang as loud as you possibly could.” No encouragement was needed. She dashed over to the other side stage to do “Blank Space,” whereupon a male dancer in a hoodie brought her a sheer black dress and wrapped it around her. She asked the crowd, “Do you like my dress?,” which naturally led to “Dress.”

The Wait Is Over: Billie Eilish Announces New Album 'Hit Me Hard and Soft'

The far right is crawling with eclipse conspiracy theories, dream theater on emotional mike portnoy reunion, first 40th anniversary tour dates, little big town, sugarland announce 2024 'take me home' tour, all 243 of taylor swift's songs, ranked.

During a clever snippet of “Should’ve Said No” she rode a serpent back to the main stage for the home stretch. “Call It What You Want” became a moody performance with a video backdrop of news headlines – which was probably the only time all night the word “squad” came up – while “Getaway Car” became a desert-noir set piece. The end came a little suddenly, with “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things,” restyled into a medley with “We Ae Never Getting Back Together.” The song didn’t necessarily feel like a resolution, musically or emotionally, and despite how well it worked as a comic romp – all Tay’s back-up singers joining in for “therein lies the issue” – it was jarring when the house lights came up afterward. No encore, just a coda on the video screen: “And in the death of her reputation, she felt truly alive.”

Swift is always an artist who feels compelled to swerve somewhere new – even in those moments where she seems like the only one in the room who wouldn’t be delighted with more of the same Old Taylor tricks. She just isn’t content to be a More of the Same artist. In a show that was packed with highlights, “All Too Well” was the moment it was impossible to beat – it’s just the kind of song that can’t be topped, and there was something sweet about the way Swift temporarily surrendered her constant urge to remake and remodel, just playing the song on acoustic guitar. As her spiritual uncle Bruce Springsteen might say, she decided for a moment to stand back and let it all be. Everybody in the stadium was wired to her voice and guitar. The only person I noticed who wasn’t singing along with “All Too Well” was a little kid who was mesmerized by the confetti in the air, still floating to the floor from “Shake It Off” a few minutes earlier. She twirled around just grabbing each piece of confetti that floated by. She was as rapt in the moment as any of us.

“Ready For It?” “I Did Something Bad” “Gorgeous” “Style”/”Love Story”/”You Belong With Me” “Look What You Made Me Do” “End Game” “King of My Heart” “Delicate” “Shake It Off” “Dancing With Our Hands Tied” “All Too Well” “Blank Space” “Dress” “Bad Blood”/ “Should’ve Said No” “Don’t Blame Me” “Long Live”/ “New Year’s Day” “Getaway Car” “Call It What You Want” “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”/”This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”

Taylor Swift's Reputation tour lives forever and ever on Netflix

You'll want to see this movie, even if you saw the show live.

the reputation tour

To mark the end of 2018, global superstar Taylor Swift and streaming service Netflix threw one hell of a New Year's Eve party. There were snakes, there was glitter, there was confetti and there were the best indoor fireworks you've ever seen.

Didn't attend? Not to worry, there's still time.

The movie version of Swift's 53-date, award-winning, record-topping blockbuster Reputation stadium tour was released on Netflix Monday. Having attended two dates on the tour and seen Swift perform live for the first time in three years, I thought I knew what to expect from the movie. What I didn't expect was feeling equally as moved and starry-eyed while tucked up on my sofa on a cold winter's night as I did back on those warm evenings last summer. Not only did it spirit me back onto the stadium arena, but it left me with an overwhelming sense of relief that this spectacle has been committed to film I can revisit any time.

It's a smart move for Taylor Swift to partner with Netflix rather than a US-based TV network or put out a straight-to-DVD release. The streaming service is pretty much unrivalled in its ability to bring Reputation to a global audience at the same time everywhere in the world for an affordable price. For reasons of cost and geography, many fans were unable to attend the tour, which visited only five countries outside the US. But Netflix lowers the barrier to entry, making Swift's latest live performances accessible to pretty much anyone with an internet connection.

Taylor Swift reputation Stadium Tour - Tokyo

Swift fizzes with joy.

This is excellent news for fans who missed out, but also for Swift herself. The more people who see her play live -- when she's absolutely in her element -- the more likely she is to be recognised for doing what's genuinely important to her. When people think of Taylor Swift's reputation, no longer will they think tabloid headlines and unwanted scrutiny of her personal life. Instead visions of kaleidoscopic pyrotechnics will dance in their heads, while her poignant, powerful lyrics echo in their ears. It's a masterful deflection, a taking back of a twisted narrative, and perhaps most importantly in the long run, a way to establish this era as a building block in her legacy that's as integral as any that's come before it.

And it would be foolish to think that Taylor Swift isn't always, to an extent, thinking about how things like this movie play into the bigger picture. Swift knows that her reputation is a transient and ever-changing thing, but that legacy is a different matter altogether.

This particular show, with its curved stages, dancing lights, elaborate choreography and gorgeous costumes, is a work of art in itself. The live show transcends the album and serves as a reminder that no matter what else happens, Swift's stardom is perennial. Among the setlist are sure-fire crowdpleasers from earlier eras seamlessly woven into the show through mashups or B-stage performances, while fans belt out new favorites like Delicate as Swift shimmers high above the whole scene in a floating gold cage.

Taylor Swift reputation Stadium Tour - Tokyo

"1, 2, 3, LGB" -- Swift floats above the crowd.

It also allows tracks from Reputation that didn't get the love they truly deserved a chance to shine with dazzling production. One to watch out for is King of My Heart, my personal favorite from the album, which quite literally gets the full song-and-dance treatment. Another highlight, Don't Blame Me, sounds like it was purpose-written with stadiums in mind. The live version of this song is akin to a religious experience; fans call it "going to church".

That's not to mention the acoustic rendition of All Too Well -- widely considered to be Swift's best song -- which is sung both by Swift and the fans around her with such depth of emotion that it relays to viewers the truest impression of what it was actually like to attend this show in person. Swift is well known for being very much in tune with her fans , and this connection allows her to talk to the audience with heartfelt candor throughout the show, as well as to stop and blow her nose with nothing but cheering and applause.

“All Too Well” was never a single, and it always blows my mind that it is consistently one of the loudest songs the crowd sings when I play it. Moments like this defined the Reputation Stadium Tour for me, and I can’t wait for you to see it in full starting at 12:01 AM 12/31 PST pic.twitter.com/wgcV3oumje — Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) December 29, 2018

Hardcore fans will tell you that floor seats, particularly if you're in the pit, are the only tickets worth having. But the show is so spectacular and carefully designed that it's worth viewing from every angle. Each perspective brings with it a new experience, and thanks to Netflix, you get access to all of them for the price of a month's subscription. In fact, you get money-can't-buy views of the action: Swift smiling winsomely down the lens as she dances towards the camera, and ethereal slow-motion of the most dramatic moments.

For me, the camerawork and closeups brought new insights into a show I've thought about every day since I first saw last year. It's a divine showcase of the costumes, the dancing and especially Swift's own barely-contained effervescent joy at being on stage. And all in glorious high-definition detail, with the HDR and Dolby Atmos sound on point throughout. Even the less ardent fans among my own NYE party guests were bowled over by the production, both of the show and the movie itself, as my friends had to think hard to compare it to the best stadium rock gigs they've attended. Each of them left with a party favor in the form of a new favorite song, as the movie trained a light on Swift's artistry even when bringing lesser-hyped album tracks to the fore.

If you had any lingering doubts about whether Swift is still an artist at the top of her game, the Reputation tour movie will allay your concerns. Perhaps she's no longer America's sweetheart or the darling of the recording academy, but you don't become the world's greatest show-woman by always colouring inside the lines.

When Swift puts pen to paper for a new album, it's her fearless disregard of the traditional parameters of genre and subject matter that spin individual thoughts and feelings into showstoppers. The Reputation era culminates in a live event absolutely worth capturing and watching over and over again. It's a music event for the new year -- and for the history books.

The 1989 World Tour is shook...

Taylor Swift tours may be most famous for their inspirational speeches and chart-topping hits but in recent years they've become notorious for something else: celebrity guests.

📸 Follow us on instagram at instagram.com/popbuzz 📸

It all started on the Speak Now World Tour when Taylor invited the likes of Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber to perform with her and since then the impromptu duets have quickly become a Taylor staple. The Red Tour saw the 'I Knew You Were Trouble' hitmaker sing with everyone from Ed Sheeran to Jennifer Lopez and on the 1989 World Tour we were treated to surprise appearances from stars including Justin Timberlake, Serena Williams, Mick Jagger, Julia Roberts and Mary J. Blige.

The celebrity cameos became so notorious that they resulted in this incredible parody.

PLEASE WELCOME TO THE STAGE...

All jokes aside though, Swifties and casual Taylor fans alike are always eager to find out which budding young stars and iconic legends will be joining the 'Blank Space' popstar on stage and The Reputation Stadium Tour is no different.

Here all of the infamous guests that have joined Taylor on her latest world tour so far.

Hayley Kiyoko

UM @hayleykiyoko THAT WAS INSANE!! Thank you so much for coming to surprise the crowd tonight at @gillettestadium - THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!! So stoked this was your first stadium performance, and you absolutely killed it 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on Jul 26, 2018 at 10:24pm PDT

Taylor Swift has long been supportive of Hayley Kiyoko. The 'Delicate' hitmaker often features Hayley's music in her Spotify playlists and last night the rising superstar joined Taylor on stage in Foxborough, Massachusetts to sing her critically acclaimed 2018 hit 'Curious' together. Amazing.

Robbie Williams

Still processing how special last night was, thank you London for two incredible nights at Wembley Stadium. I’ll NEVER forget the sound of the crowd when Robbie Williams showed up to sing Angels, that was UNREAL!! Thank you to Robbie, that was such a spectacular moment and it meant so much to so many people, including me. 😇😇😇 @robbiewilliams 📷 @GarethCattermole @hogieaaa @GettyEntertainment A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on Jun 24, 2018 at 7:26am PDT

Robbie Williams? At a Taylor Swift gig? Who would have thought. It's no secret that Robbie Williams is a household name in the UK but his success never ever transferred properly to the US. The fact that Taylor knows and loves his music is crazy though. The two performed 'Angels' together at Taylor's second Reputation show in London and Robbie even wore a Taylor Swift t-shirt.

Taylor and Niall have always had kind words to say about each other before but have never actually shared a stage. When Taylor performed in London though that changed. The two superstars wowed Wembley with a surprise rendition of Niall's monster hit single 'Slow Hands'. Incredible.

Selena Gomez

To the person I could call at any time of day, who has been there no matter what... you absolutely KILLED IT tonight and everyone was so excited to see you. I love you, and 60,000 people at the Rose Bowl loved you too. @selenagomez 📷: @Polkimaging @GettyEntertainment A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on May 20, 2018 at 2:15am PDT
I mean, I could but why would I want to? @selenagomez A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on May 20, 2018 at 2:18am PDT

Selena and Taylor have been BFFs for years so it's no surprise that the 'Bad Liar' singer has taken part in multiple Taylor Swift tours. On the Speak Now World Tour they performed 'Who Says', on the 1989 World Tour they performed 'Good for You' and now they've joined forces to sing 'Hands to Myself' in Pasedena. Not only that but Taylor also shared an adorable Instagram post about their friendship mere hours later. No. We're not crying. You are.

Troye Sivan

My my my... @troyesivan 📷: @Polkimaging @GettyEntertainment A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on May 20, 2018 at 2:20am PDT
Troye absolutely owned the Rose Bowl 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 @troyesivan thank you so much for coming!!! A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on May 20, 2018 at 2:22am PDT

Troye and Taylor have always stanned each other from afar on Twitter so it's a joy to see them finally collaborate on stage in Pasedena. Not only did they wow the crowd with an impeccable rendition of 'My My My!' complete with superstar strutting but they also revealed the release date of Troye's highly anticipated sophomore album Bloom . The LP is dropping August 31st and features a duet with Ariana Grande called 'Dance to This'. We cannot wait.

Shawn Mendes

Thank you @shawnmendes for surprising the Rose Bowl crowd tonight. YOU ARE THE GREATEST and I’m obsessed with everything I’ve heard from your new album. My 1989 tourmate came back!!!! 📷: @KevinMazur and @GettyEntertainment A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on May 18, 2018 at 11:19pm PDT
Thank you @shawnmendes and the 60,000 people who came to the Rose Bowl show tonight! YOU WERE MAGICAL 🌹 A post shared by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on May 19, 2018 at 1:17am PDT

Shawn and Taylor have a long history together. Shawn opened for Taylor on the 1989 World Tour and the two have often spoken about how much they admire each other so a Reputation guest spot was inevitable. Shawn joined Taylor in Pasadena for a rousing rendition of 'There's Nothing Holding Me Back'. To make things even more exciting, Taylor teased that she's heard some of Shawn's new album and she's "obsessed" with it.

Camila Cabelllo

what was going through my mind at this moment : I remembered when i came to school one day (I think I was in 9th grade but could be wrong) and my friend Mariana had just seen Taylor on the speak now tour and told me she touched her hand and i was like when am I ever gonna be able to afford to go to a Taylor swift concert and touch her hand during speak now, and I just had a moment of "if you would've told me then what was gonna happen I wouldn't have believed it" and I had such an intense gratitude for everything I'm experiencing right now. I love you @taylorswift and @charli_xcx A post shared by camila (@camila_cabello) on May 9, 2018 at 2:49pm PDT

Camila has been close friends with Taylor Swift ever since her Fifth Harmony days (Taylor even hosted an epic 18th birthday party for her) so it only seems fitting that Camila is now opening for Taylor on her sold out stadium tour. As well as performing her hit singles ('Never Be the Same', 'Havana') to warm up Taylor's crowd, Camila has also joined Taylor on multiple nights to perform 'Shake It Off' with Charli XCX too.

omg guys this place is fucking huge!!!!!!! fingers crossed i don’t fall over on stage/do something dumb 🤞🏽💕 also can’t wait to watch these 2 kill it tonight 💗✨ i’ll be out in the crowd ready to party with u guys after my show!!! I play at 7pm!! let’s gooo Arizona!!!! 💕💜 A post shared by CHARLI XCX (@charli_xcx) on May 8, 2018 at 5:03pm PDT

Speaking of Charli , she is also one of Taylor Swift's supporting acts on The Reputation Stadium Tour. Charli was one of the special guests on the 1989 World Tour (the two stars performed 'Boom Clap' together) and now she is wowing Swifties night after night with all of her hits from 'Fancy' to 'Boys'. Oh and as mentioned she is also every now and then performing 'Shake It Off' with Camila and Taylor as well.

‘Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour’ Leaving Netflix Globally in December 2023

The concert, which is labeled a Netflix Original, will depart at the end of December.

Kasey Moore What's on Netflix Avatar

Picture: Netflix

Swifties will be disappointed to hear that the Netflix Original labeled concert Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour has been announced to be leaving Netflix at the end of December 2023.

Directed by Paul Dugdale, the Taylor Swift concert recording was produced by Den of Thieves and Taylor Swift Productions and was first released on Netflix globally on December 31st, 2018. It’s a recording of a concert she performed in Dallas, Texas.

As of the time of initial publishing, the concert doesn’t yet have a removal notice within the app or on the page for the movie. Instead, Netflix confirmed its removal in its “New on Netflix” newsletter to various publishers and outlets online. A removal notice will begin to be displayed around a month before its departure. The removal applies to all Netflix regions.

Why is Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour ?

You may be thinking, “why is a Netflix Original leaving Netflix?” and you’d be right to question it. However, as we’ve covered relentlessly over the past few years, Netflix has been removing dozens of its Original titles.

The reason why some Originals have been removed often comes down to ultimate ownership of a show or movie and that Netflix has licensed (albeit exclusively) for a fixed period.

That does appear to be the case here, with the concert licensed to Netflix for a five-year fixed window, and that window is now coming up.

Of course, other theories are floating around about why the Reputation tour could be leaving Netflix.

We spoke to Andrew Roth , a concert photographer and journalist for the likes of Detroit News and Flint Beat, who told us there are growing theories that Reputation could be the next album that Swift re-releases under her own banner. “It’s a whole thing,” Roth tells us, “but the leading theory is there is an announcement soon and [the rereleased album] will be released in February [2024].” Roth told us a bunch of other theories on why it was on the horizon, such as February aligns with when “they’re in Tokyo, which is where the Reputation Stadium Tour ended,” but that’s not the point of this article, so we’ll leave that rabbit hole for others to fall down.

Will Miss Americana leave Netflix?

No is the short answer.

Following news getting out of the concert leaving Netflix, some Taylor Swift fans posted online that they’re also seeing Miss Americana set to leave the service too. They’re managing to get that up in their search results after searching “leaving soon.”

MISS AMERICANA TOO?2?3!$:$:$:$3$2&$:$/);72):$2?:? https://t.co/tjX0PJdMkh pic.twitter.com/UgmEcGwXZ1 — dom ☆ (@ev3rhaze) November 22, 2023

Thankfully, we can clear this up: Miss Americana: Taylor Swift won’t be leaving Netflix anytime soon. In fact, our understanding is that Netflix owns the rights to that documentary in perpetuity, so it will be streaming for many more years to come.

Of course, we’ll keep you posted on our leaving Netflix soon hub page if that changes.

Many Taylor Swift fans recently headed to theaters to watch The Eras Tour concert, which has yet to find a streaming home. A report from Puck in September suggested Netflix did not engage with any of the bidding on the movie ahead of AMC distributing, and it’s unclear whether they’ll want Eras Tour when its streaming window comes up early next year. As of October, reports suggest the concert had yet to be sold to a streamer .

Will you miss Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour when it leaves Netflix globally in December 2023? Let us know in the comments below.

Big 'Reputation!' See All the Photos from Taylor Swift's Tour Kickoff

The "Look What You Made Me Do" singer kicked off her massive Reputation Stadium Tour on Tuesday

Dave Quinn is a Senior Editor for PEOPLE. He has been working at the brand since 2016, and is the author of the No. 1 New York Times best-selling book, Not All Diamonds and Rosé: The Inside Story of the Real Housewives from the People Who Lived It.

THE REDEMPTION KICKOFF

Taylor Swift returned to the stage Tuesday night at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona to kick off her massive Reputation Stadium Tour .

SINGING IN SEQUIN

The singer, 28, wore a black sequin bodysuit with a removable hood and sleeves.

BOOTS MADE FOR WALKING

She paired the outfit with knee-high black boots and sheer, textured stockings.

GOLDEN LOCKS

As for her bangs and hair, Swift kept it down and wavy — reminiscent of the 'do she wore during the "Look What You Made Me Do" video.

THE SET LIST

Swift sang 24 songs total in the show, with a set list that included nearly all the songs off her latest album reputation .

Fan favorites like “All Too Well” (off her Red album) and “Shake It Off” and “Style” (off her 1989 album) were also performed as well.

CHANGING IT UP

As teased by the Grammy winner over the last couple weeks, Swift had plenty of costume changes and surprises in store for her loyal Swifties.

CALL FOR BACKUP

"At least 15 dancers have joined Swift on the tour."

THE REDEMPTION SQUAD

Singers Camila Cabello and Charli XCX opened for Swift, and also joined her on stage.

The trio looked close as can be as they embraced on stage.

BACKSTAGE BFFS

That love carried backstage too! Before the show, Cabello, Swift, and Charli XCX posed together in the empty University of Phoenix Stadium.

A SPECIAL SOMEONE

Swift’s boyfriend Joe Alwyn was spotted by fans in the crowd, and Swift pointed at him while singing her hit “Gorgeous.”

A HUGE AUDIENCE

A record-breaking 59,157 fans came to see the show, many excitedly sharing photos and snippets of the superstar on stage.

SNAKES ON HER SET

Snakes flanked her set, which Swith said before singing “Long Live” came from a “low” point in her life “a couple of years ago” — alluding to her feud with Kim Kardashian West , who leaked a phone call between the singer and her husband Kanye West in 2016.

“A couple of years ago, someone called me a snake on social media and it caught on. And then a lot of people called me a lot of names on social media,” Swift told her audience. “And I went through some really low times for a while because of it. I went through some times when I didn’t know if I was gonna get to do this anymore and I guess the snakes … I wanted to send a message to you guys that if someone uses name calling to bully you on social media and even if a lot of people jump on board with it, that doesn’t have to beat you. It can strengthen you instead.”

MULTIPLE STAGES

"On the tour, there will be three stages," Swift previously said. "The reason why I want there to be three is because I want to be able to get as close to you as possible."

The stage is also the “biggest” stage Swift has ever had on tour. “It’s got a video screen wall that’s pretty seamless,” she said about the 110 ft. stage . “It’s kind of like you’re walking on an optical illusion.”

SWIFT'S EXCITEMENT

A source close to Swift told PEOPLE exclusively that "Taylor couldn’t be more excited about the tour."

"She has been rehearsing nonstop and perfecting everything," the source added. "She can’t stop talking about it. It’s so fun to see her this happy and excited."

SURROUNDING HERSELF WITH THE BEST

"The team that she hired for the tour is equally excited," the source continued. "It’s the best to work for Taylor. She is demanding and wants everyone to give 100 percent, but she is also very appreciative and takes amazing care of her team. The tour will be a really fun experience for everyone."

JUST THE BEGINNING

Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour will see her play dates across North America, Europe and Oceania through November.

Taylor Swift built an empire on relatable lyrics. Will her billionaire status change that?

Taylor Swift leans back and closes her eyes on stage in an orange dress as lights blur around her

For Swifties, it was never a matter of if Taylor Swift would become a billionaire, but when.

In its  latest rich list, Forbes estimates Swift has a $1.1 billion fortune and says the megastar is the first artist to achieve billionaire status solely from songwriting and performing.

Other artists who have hit the milestone – including Rihanna and Jay-Z – earned their massive wealth in part thanks to fashion and cosmetics brands, alcohol companies or entertainment holdings.

In mere weeks Swift will treat her fans to yet another album – The Tortured Poets Department – which will fuel another merchandising spectacle.

But by building an empire on her vulnerable lyrics and "big sister" persona, will Swift's new billionaire status impact how Swifties relate to their idol?

The (super rich) girl next door

Taylor Swift smiles and clasps the hands of a fan at one of her shows.

"Taylor has an amazing relationship with her fans, or at least an amazing illusion of a relationship with her fans," says Georgia Carroll, who holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Sydney where she specialised in fandom.

"It's something she's cultivated since the earliest days of her career, where she's really presented herself as not quite a girl next door, but kind of as the aspirational big sister or cool friend who is going through the same things as you are."

Swift's sprawling discography captures the plethora of emotions and experiences, from the giddiness of first love (Fearless, Speak Now) to the rollercoaster that is your 20s (Red, 1989) to darker, more adult themes (Reputation, Midnights).

"She's taken her fans on this lifelong journey where it does feel as though you're kind of getting this peek into her life and her diary, which really builds a connection with her fans," Dr Carroll says.

This all feeds back into the concept of parasocial relationships, which is, as Dr Carroll explains, "anytime a fan feels as though they know a celebrity because of messages through the media, from social media and, in Taylor's instance, through her music."

"So you feel as though you actually know her even though she's a stranger."

'You can see those dollar signs rolling in'

Since 2019, Swift has released eight albums – four being re-releases – and her next album is due out this month.

In 2023 her Eras Tour hit the $1 billion mark after selling a staggering 4.35 million tickets across 60 tour dates, according to the Associated Press.

Taylor Swift sings over her shoulder into a microphone as her hair blows around her against a fiery back drop

To add to its success, the concert film grossed a further $261 million worldwide and secured the highest opening weekend for a concert film.

For Dr Carroll, "nobody is surprised" about Swift's new billionaire status.

"It's been something that has been on the cards for quite a while especially with the Eras Tour and the Eras Tour film making her so much money and all of the stories around the records that they've broken and her economic impact," she says.

"In the last five years she's released this crazy amount of content which obviously has multiple album versions, multiple vinyl versions, merchandise alongside it.

"It's been this trajectory in the last five years, but especially the last 12 to 18 months, where you can see those dollar signs rolling in for her."

Swift's strategy of releasing limited edition versions of vinyl albums – each with a different cover, colour or bonus track – has drawn criticism over the years.

The debate fired up again this week when Billie Eilish expressed her frustration at overconsumption in the music industry.

"It's some of the biggest artists in the world making f**king 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more. It's so wasteful," she told Billboard .

Eilish later clarified her comments and said she wasn't singling anyone out.

'Do I need to give a billionaire more of my money?'

Dr Carroll says while Swifties have a strong connection to their idol, it's the current economic environment that may have them pausing for thought rather than Swift's billionaire status.

Young women dressed in purple and sparkles line up at a merchandise booth where Taylor Swift shirts are sold

"We have The Tortured Poets Department coming out in three weeks so that's going to come with a new wave of merchandise and then the Eras Tour is starting up again in Europe," she said.

"I think we are reaching the point where fans are kind of like, 'The cost of living is going up, my rent is increasing, my mortgage is increasing, do I need to give a billionaire more of my money?'"

"But at the same time, her fans are so connected to her and so willing to support her that they see it as their choice."

"The argument I make is that the way her marketing is structured, they are in a way manipulating the fans, but it is the fans' choice at the end of the day and the fans can say, 'You know what, I can't afford this.'

"The argument the fans make is that it makes them happy and they like supporting her."

Dr Carroll adds the biggest impact Swift's billionaire status will have is by giving critics "more of a provable backbone."

"I think it's going to just give legs to any critiques and arguments that exist and the discussions that are had by people who aren't necessarily in the fandom."

But Dr Carroll says when it comes to fans spending money, "not so much [do] they see it as supporting A Billionaire with a capital A-B".

"They see it as supporting Taylor Swift, somebody who has been there for them over the years and who has brought them joy and brought their life meaning and they want to kind of continue that relationship."

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Taylor Swift's net worth is now $1.1 billion, Bloomberg News reported and Forbes confirmed.

The pop star is a prolific songwriter who's amassed a significant fortune throughout her career.

Here's how Swift earns and spends her fortune, from real estate to charitable donations.

Taylor Swift never fails to impress.

At 15 years old, she was the youngest songwriter to ever sign with Sony. She now has 14 Grammys on her shelf — including four for album of the year , the most of any artist in history — several tours under her belt, 10 studio albums , a long list of chart-topping songs , and a beloved fan base who dub themselves "Swifties."

Such success makes Swift one of the world's highest-paid celebrities and one of the richest female singers. According to a Bloomberg News analysis published on the eve of her "1989" album rerelease , Swift has officially built a billion-dollar empire .

Forbes recently confirmed her $1.1 billion net worth , citing in part her massive ongoing Eras Tour and its subsequent concert movie .

Swift has been strategic and generous with her money, investing in a sprawling $84 million real-estate portfolio and often donating to causes she supports.

See how Swift earns and spends her fortune below.

Hillary Hoffower, Libby Torres, and Taylor Nicole Rogers contributed to a previous version of this article.

Taylor Swift currently has an estimated net worth of $1.1 billion.

According to Forbes, which published a series of 2024 billionaire reports on Tuesday, Swift is the first musician to reach 10-figure status solely based on songwriting and performing (rather than brand deals or business ventures).

Swift's vast fortune is primarily thanks to her valuable discography and earnings from streaming deals, music sales, concert tickets , and merchandise.

Representatives for Swift did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment regarding the Forbes report.

The pop star's record-breaking Eras Tour, which began in March 2023, propelled the singer to billionaire status.

Swift's five-continent Eras Tour has been nothing short of a sensation. It's the first tour ever to gross over $1 billion in revenue and is on track to become the highest-grossing tour of all time.

In October 2023, after Swift toured 56 dates across the US and Mexico, The Eras Tour had already generated $780 million and added $4.3 billion to America's gross domestic product , according to Bloomberg Economics.

She has since made stops in Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Australia, and Singapore, with plans to continue in Europe and North America throughout 2024 following the release of her new album, " The Tortured Poets Department ."

The movie version of the tour broke box-office records before it was even released. It grossed more than $261 million worldwide.

Worldwide ticket presales had already exceeded $100 million before the film was released (a day early) on October 12, 2023, AMC Theatres reported.

According to ticketing service Fandango , "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" set a new record for the highest first-day ticket sales in 2023. It has also become the highest-grossing concert movie of all time, surpassing "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never."

Swift, who bypassed movie studios to personally fund the concert movie, will receive half of the box office earnings for the film, which grossed $261 million worldwide .

Swift cashed in on her blockbuster Eras Tour movie again by selling the streaming rights to Disney for more than $75 million.

Once " Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour " had left theaters, Swift struck a deal with Disney+ to release the film's extended version on streaming .

According to Puck News, Disney paid upwards of $75 million for the exclusive rights.

Citing anonymous sources, the outlet reported that Disney's Bob Iger outbid Netflix and Universal Pictures (which handled VOD distribution for the film in December) for the streaming rights by offering the huge sum, which the other two streamers couldn't match.

Swift has endorsement deals and partnerships with high-profile brands.

These partnerships include Capital One, AT&T, Stella McCartney, Elizabeth Arden perfumes, American Express, Keds, Diet Coke, Walmart, and Apple.

But touring has long been Swift's biggest money maker. The 1989 World Tour grossed more than $250 million in 2015.

That figure is according to the Los Angeles Times .

She earned even more during her Reputation Stadium Tour in 2018.

At the time, the Reputation Stadium Tour broke the record for the highest-grossing US tour ever, according to Billboard . Swift earned an average of $7 million per show , more than double the US per-concert average during the "1989" tour.

But her tours don't just bring in ticket sales. Swift also makes a huge sum of money from merch.

Last April, Forbes estimated that Swift's coveted on-site merchandise — which she sells at an average price of $80 —could add an estimated $87 million in proceeds to her fortune.

Swift amassed an estimated $230 million in record sales following the release of her 2022 album "Midnights."

According to The Guardian , Swift's massive album sales for "Midnights" brought in $230 million for Swift's label Universal.

With more than 1.5 million equivalent album units earned in the US in its first week, "Midnights" landed the biggest week for an album in seven years (since Swift's own album "Reputation").

Swift made $52 million in 2021 after rerecording earlier work that was acquired (and then sold) by Scooter Braun.

Swift embarked on a mission to rerecord her first six albums after Scooter Braun, whom she accused of "incessant, manipulative bullying," purchased the legal rights to her back catalog in 2019. (He later sold the master recordings to a private-equity company .)

She released the first installment in the series, "Fearless (Taylor's Version)," in 2021. It debuted atop the Billboard 200 — indicating this would be a lucrative venture for Swift. Later that year, Swift's new version of "Red" became one of the year's top-selling albums .

The two rerecorded albums helped plant Swift on the " The Highest-Paid Entertainers 2022 " report from Forbes.

She has since released "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" and "1989 (Taylor's Version)." The latter sold over 1.6 million copies  in its first week — surpassing the original and becoming Swift's biggest debut total to date.

Swift has amassed an impressive fortune — and she knows how to spend it. Her real-estate portfolio is worth a reported $150 million.

It consists of eight properties in four different states .

In Nashville, she owns a 3,240-square-foot condo worth an estimated $3 million and a 5,600-square-foot Greek Revival estate worth an estimated $2.5 million.

The latter is the cheapest property she owns.

In LA, Swift owns a 10,982-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion worth nearly $30 million.

In 2017, she was trying to turn it into a historic landmark, according to Teen Vogue .

Across the coast, Swift owns an estate with seaside views in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, for which she reportedly paid $17.75 million.

With 12,000 square feet , it has plenty of room for parties and even inspired her song " The Last Great American Dynasty ."

But that's nothing compared to the estimated $40 million worth of property Swift owns in New York City on the same block in Tribeca.

That includes an 8,309-square-foot duplex penthouse and a four-story townhouse.

She used to rent an apartment on Cornelia Street — the famous inspiration behind her "Lover" track "Cornelia Street" — which was listed in 2023 with a $17.9 million price tag .

Swift needs a way to travel among all these homes. She reportedly owns a Dassault private jet.

The Dassault 7X is registered to Island Jet Inc., a holding company listed under the same address as Taylor Swift Productions, Business Insider previously reported.

She used to have two private jets, but quietly sold one amid criticism of her carbon footprint . ("Taylor's jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals,"  a rep for Swift said in a statement . "To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.")

There's no word on how much she paid for these vehicles, but a brand new Dassault 900 has a list price of $44 million, according to Business Jet Traveler. Elon Musk owns a similar model that cost about $26 million.

Swift often spends money dining out with her friends and romantic partners, especially when in New York City.

In the past, she's been spotted at The Fat Radish, The Spotted Pig, Sarabeth's, L'Asso, Nobu , and Vita Carota .

But Swift has always been generous with her money, supporting causes and helping those in need.

On her 24th birthday, she donated $100,000 to the Nashville Symphony, according to People .

Swift pledged $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame to fund an education center.

Her commitment to education doesn't stop with music; Swift also donated $50,000 to NYC public schools, People reported .

She has provided support during natural disasters, donating $1 million to the victims of Louisiana floods and $500,000 to Nashville flood relief.

Swift also raised $750,000 through a Speak Now Help Now benefit concert for victims of tornadoes in the southern US in 2011, according to People .

In 2020, Swift gave $50,000 to a mother of five who lost her husband to COVID-19 days before Christmas.

She and her mom Andrea Swift quietly made the donation, according to USA Today .

She also gifted $13,000 each to two moms who were also struggling financially because of the pandemic.

And then there are the two famous checks she wrote for $1,989 — an ode to her best-selling album — sent to two fans to pay a student loan and to donate to a dance marathon benefit.

The checks were sent out in 2014, according to People .

More recently, she has been donating to food banks across America that coincide with her Eras Tour route.

Throughout the first US leg of her Eras Tour, Swift habitually made large donations to local food pantries .

She has also been known to support LGBTQ+ organizations and victims of gun violence in recent years.

She also helps out her fellow pop stars. She gave Kesha $250,000 to help with legal fees during her lawsuit against Dr. Luke.

For several years, Kesha was embroiled in a defamation lawsuit after she accused the music producer Dr. Luke , her former mentor, of "unrelenting abuse" and rape. (They reached a settlement in 2023.)

The "Rainbow" singer revealed Swift's donation during an interview with Rolling Stone in 2017.

Kesha described Swift as "a fucking sweetheart. Very, very sweet, very, very genuine, extremely generous, picks up the phone every time I call her. My mom doesn't even always pick up the phone!"

Swift has proven herself to be incredibly savvy with investments.

In 2022, Swift pulled out of a $100 million sponsorship deal with Sam Bankman-Fried's FTX after she questioned the company if it was selling "unregistered securities."

As  Business Insider reported, many other celebrities such as Tom Brady and Stephen Curry failed to do so and were subsequently sued for endorsing the now-bankrupt crypto exchange.

Russia City Breaks

Experience some of the world's most exciting cities on our guided tours of Moscow and St Petersburg. Moscow is an endlessly fascinating metropolis and a must-visit for anyone who loves the bustle of city life. It’s chaotic, diverse, enigmatic and constantly changing, with something to suit virtually any traveller’s tastes. As the scene of so many world-changing events throughout the ages, one day in Moscow is never enough in this captivating, confounding capital of contradictions.

A full-throttle city, any trip to Moscow is guaranteed to be thrilling and unique, but the most popular destination in Russia is Saint Petersburg , known as the country’s cultural capital. Great artists have flocked here for centuries, shaping the city’s sophisticated, distinctly European air. The ornate splendour of St Petersburg’s architecture has given rise to its reputation as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

Moscow and St Petersburg Holiday Highlights

  • Join a dedicated arts, history and culture tour of Moscow. Uncover the revolutionary tales behind many of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
  • First time in Moscow? In just three days on a privately guided Moscow city tour, you can visit the legendary Red Square, St Basil’s Cathedral, the Kremlin, Arbat Street and much more.
  • Tailor your free time in Moscow to suit your interests. Follow the Soviet trail to Stalin’s Bunker, or try luxury vodka tasting at Cristall Vodka Museum.
  • Discover the cosmopolitan soul of St Petersburg on a guided walking tour to Nevsky Prospekt (the city’s high street), St Isaac’s Cathedral and Peter and Paul Fortress.
  • Lose yourself in the grand halls of St Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum, home to around three million priceless works including paintings, sculptures and ancient artefacts.
  • Enjoy an elegant night out at the Russian ballet or opera. There’s the legendary Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, while St Petersburg is home to the renowned Mariinsky Theatre and Mikhailovsky Theatre.

If you can’t decide which Russian city to visit, why not see both? The high-speed Sapsan train takes just four hours to cover the 630km city-to-city journey and is our transport of choice for our combined Moscow and St Petersburg tours.

Only have time for one and not sure which city in Russia to choose? Both have absolutely stunning architecture in spades, but Moscow’s history runs far deeper. The city was founded in 1147, 400 years before it became the capital of the Tsarist Empire. The world-famous Kremlin is located in Moscow in the Red Square, along with St Basil’s Cathedral. Meanwhile, the grand palaces, monuments and cathedrals of St Petersburg’s World Heritage-listed historic city centre can be explored by boat on the city’s network of canals. St Petersburg is home to around five million residents, while the population of the greater Moscow Metropolitan Area is estimated at at least 20 million! Losing yourself (both figuratively and literally - although thank goodness for tour guides!) in the world’s largest megacities is an experience never to be forgotten. Love the nightlife? Moscow is party central, while St Petersburg makes up for its more subdued clubbing scene with a proliferation of live music venues and small bars.

Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Tour movie is leaving Netflix, but 'Miss Americana' is safe.

Taylor's Reputation Tour Movie Is Leaving Netflix At The End Of 2023

Watch it while you can, Swifties!

It’s going to be a rough New Year’s Day for Swifties. For the past five years, Taylor Swift fans were free to stream her Reputation Tour concert film on Netflix, but the streamer is removing the movie soon. Once 2023 comes to an end, Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour will leave Netflix. However, despite some online rumors, her other doc Miss Americana is not going anywhere.

Netflix released its full slate of new additions and departing content for December 2023, and one title definitely stood out among the shows and movies that would be taken off the streamer. Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour will be removed from Netflix on Dec. 30, almost exactly five years after it premiered on Netflix back in 2018.

No reason was given for the concert doc’s removal, although the timing is suspect. Some reports are theorizing Netflix had licensed the movie with a five-year deal, which would explain why it’s being removed one day before its five-year anniversary. Swifties are also curious if the move has some connection to Reputation (Taylor’s Version) , which Swift is heavily rumored to formally announce very soon .

However, the Reputation Tour movie’s removal won’t be as bad as some Swifties online are worrying. After that announcement, rumors began swirling that Netflix was also planning to do away with Swift’s 2020 documentary Miss Americana . Thankfully, that isn’t the case. Miss Americana is not mentioned at all on Netflix’s list of shake-ups for December 2023, so there’s no reason to believe it’s going anywhere anytime soon.

Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Tour movie is leaving Netflix, but 'Miss Americana' is safe.

The Reputation Tour disappearance comes in the middle of Swift’s first tour since then, her international Eras Tour . Swift spent all of 2023 touring North, Central, and South America. After a two-month hiatus at the start of the new year, Swift will tour the eastern hemisphere for the bulk of 2024 , before returning to North America for her last few dates in the U.S. and Canada in the fall.

Although Swifties won’t be able to re-experience the Reputation Tour on Netflix in 2024, it does seem likely that Reputation stans will be eating in the new year. Fans believe she’s been dropping lots of hints that Reputation will be her next re-recorded album .

Justin Timberlake ‘Afraid He’s Going to Be Hounded’ by Britney Spears Fans While on Tour

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Justin Timberlake is set to launch his first U.S. tour in five years later this month, but sources say he’s worried sick about the backlash from ex Britney Spears ’ loyal fans!

The 43-year-old “Cry Me a River” singer’s reputation took a hit after Britney roasted him in her recent memoir, The Woman in Me . She opened up about their relationship, branding Justin a serial cheater , and revealed that he convinced her to get an abortion after they unexpectedly became pregnant.

“Justin’s already faced a big backlash on social media and a blow to the nice guy reputation he’s always tried to nurture,” the source exclusively tells In Touch . “Now he’s going to put himself out there for public scrutiny, and he’s really worried this tour could turn into a disaster!”

Timberlake will try to get ahead of any potential fireworks by addressing the Britney situation at some of the early dates on the tour, which begins April 29, “in hopes it will all just go away.”

But the former N’Sync boybander has already taken a hit from the Britney Army. Shortly after releasing his new single, Selfish, her fans pushed a 13-year-old Britney song with the same title up the charts to compete with him.

Although Britney, 42, recently apologized for damning Justin and even complimented him on his new music, he still fears the impact of her rabid fans.

“Britney’s revelations boxed Justin into a corner,” says the insider. “He’s really afraid he’s going to be hounded by her fans on this tour.”

Meta's X competitor Threads invites developers to sign up for API access, publishes docs

After opening its developer API to select companies for testing in March, Meta's Twitter/X competitor Threads is now introducing developer documentation and a sign-up sheet for interested parties ahead of the API's public launch, planned for June. The new documentation details the API's current limitations and its endpoints, among other things, which could help developers get started on their Threads-connected apps and any other projects that integrate with the new social network. For instance, those who want to track analytics around Threads' posts can use an Insights API to retrieve things like views, likes, replies, reposts, and quotes.

Moscow Tries to Reinvent Itself as Financial Hub

the reputation tour

By Andrew E. Kramer

  • April 3, 2013

MOSCOW — Having tried and failed to become a major financial center, Moscow is trying yet again — only this time it finds itself competing for business with Warsaw, not London, Tokyo and New York.

Moscow wants companies to list on the Moscow stock exchange. It wants money center banks to expand here, as well as insurance companies and law firms that deal with securities, to make Moscow the hub for the former Soviet Union or Eastern Europe.

To do all that, city leaders are inviting business to glittering new skyscrapers, including the Mercury City Tower, which at 75 stories is the tallest building in Europe.

“The idea is to upgrade the position of Moscow in ratings, to become closer to the leaders of innovation and to the big boys of international financial centers,” Andrei V. Sharonov, the deputy mayor for economic affairs, who led a roadshow tour promoting the city in Asia, said in an interview.

This spring, the city government sent deputy mayors to Tokyo, Singapore, Frankfurt, London, Boston and New York to tell banks and other financial companies they should take a closer look at Moscow. The trip was the first concerted effort by the city government to woo investors as tenants for the new high-rise financial district called Moscow City.

Certainly Moscow has a lot of wooing to do. A city of traffic-clogged highways and sprawling concrete apartment blocks, Moscow is widely known as a singularly difficult place to do business. It did attract the big banking houses from New York and London after the fall of Communism. But cronyism, the lack of transparency and shady accounting gave companies pause. Weak courts and selective enforcement encouraged companies to conduct business outside Russia.

Political change in Russia further sapped enthusiasm. Vladimir V. Putin, a skeptic regarding greater integration with the West, succeeded Dmitri A. Medvedev, who was seen as a modernizing figure, as president in a switch known as “the castling” for its resemblance to the chess move.

Mr. Medvedev had named senior Western bank executives to an advisory council for transforming Moscow’s financial sector. They included Jamie Dimon, the chief executive of JPMorgan Chase; Vikram S. Pandit, the former chief executive of Citigroup; and Lloyd C. Blankfein, the chief executive of Goldman Sachs.

But the Global Financial Center Index, published in March by Z/Yen, a consulting agency, placed Moscow 65th out of 79 cities studied. London was first, followed by New York and Hong Kong. The ranking placed Moscow between Bahrain and Mumbai. A survey by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation even ranked Moscow No. 30 out of 30 Russian cities for ease of doing business.

“Moscow was never going to be an international financial center,” a Western banker working here, who was not authorized to speak for his employer on the matter, said of the effort. “That was a joke.”

So Moscow is setting its sights a little lower. Its biggest problem is to be taken seriously even as a regional center.

The midsize companies in neighboring Ukraine or other former Soviet republics are choosing to go public in Warsaw. They are hardly bothering to look at the carefully laid out welcome mat in Russia. Kernel, a Ukrainian corporate farming enterprise, and Coal Energy, a Ukrainian producer of steam coal, listed in Poland, where a policy of investing pensions in the stock market helps the local exchange.

The Warsaw stock exchange, in fact, has so many Ukrainian company listings it has a Ukraine index. Micex, the Russian stock exchange, has no such index because it has so few listings.

Moscow must compete, said Mr. Sharonov, the deputy mayor, because “there are a lot of other opportunities and competitors all over the world.”

Moscow’s roadshow was intended to illustrate the city’s efforts to become more livable for foreign executives and residents, Mr. Sharonov said. A new interchange links the financial district to nearby roads, for example, easing congestion.

Also, under the federal program to promote banking here, Russian financial regulators tied up loose ends in ways that pleased stock traders and other financial professionals, but have not been widely noticed.

Russia created a central securities depository, introduced standard accounting rules for publicly listed companies and is well on the way to consolidating nearly all financial regulatory authority in the central bank by 2015. And, without much fanfare, the government now insists that all listed Russian companies report financial results in accordance with international accounting standards.

“It’s a substantive change,” said Bruce Bower, the managing director of Verno Capital, a hedge fund that focuses on Russia. “The government realized that by doing a little work, for the first time, it could make a difference.”
