Segway tours are one of the most popular ways to see all of the sites in Washington DC.

There are a lot of advantages to a segway tour. One of the best things about them is that you will cover a lot of ground with minimal physical exertion.

And Segway tours are just a lot of fun! What could be better than riding around the city on a quick and nimble segway?

There are several companies that offer a DC Segway tour and below we give a quick description of the cost and benefits of each.

Though all of these companies offer private group tours, we have focused the below information on their public tours.

DC Segway Tours

Rules and Requirements

All of these DC Segway tour companies require riders to wear a helmet and will not accept riders under 16 years old.

Riders must also be over 100 lbs and under 250 lbs. People with health or balance problems are encouraged not to take these tours.

While walk-ups are generally accepted at these companies, it is always better to book in advance as the tours often sell out.

The following section will cover each of the major segway tours you can take during the day in Washington, DC.

We will include information about ticket prices, tour lengths, and some of the sites you will see on each trip.

sites by segway tour in washington dc

Capital Segway Tours

This company offers a 2 ½ hour public tour that focuses on the Eastern end of the Mall and cruises down Pennsylvania Avenue.

On this outing, you will see more museums than monuments, but you can expect to learn about at least 25 historic or notable buildings.

Wireless audio headsets allow everyone to hear the guide’s narration and discover more about the history of Washington, DC.

  • $75 per person
  • Availability: Daily
  • Hours: This tour runs multiple times throughout the day.
  • Duration: 2 ½ hours
  • Purchase tickets or learn more .

Capital Segway also offers a tour after dark that you can learn about in our night tours section.

Tours for this company begin and end at their office at Franklin Square (14th and Eye St. NW).

Tour groups can include as many as 12 guests.

Unlimited Biking

Although they are definitely better known for their bike tours, this company also offers a DC segway tour.

This outing is a general overview, providing a look at the National Mall and covering locations such as the White House, the Capitol Building and the Lincoln Memorial.

Guests will be provided with all the safety gear necessary and given instruction on how to use a segway.

  • $64 per person
  • Availability: Daily (Mar - Nov)
  • Hours: 9:30 am & 1:30 pm

Much like their competitors, Unlimited Biking also offers a segway tour at sunset which runs until after dark.

Check our night tours section for more details.

There is a maximum of 8 people allowed per tour.

Their office is located near the National Mall at L’Enfant Plaza in the North Building.

This company is best known for a variety of bike tours they offer in Washington DC, but they also provide this segway tour that covers some of the most notable attractions in the area.

You can expect to visit locations such as the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and many other important historical landmarks.

Guests will receive helmets and other safety gear necessary to protect yourself and a small pouch to keep your belongings for the duration of the tour.

As with the other services, they limit this segway tour to groups of just 8 people at a time. Their offices are near the wharf just south of the National Mall.

City Segway Tours

This company is currently closed.

Each of the segway tour companies listed above also offers tours after dark, but some outings run later than others.

All tours cover the same sites as they would during the day, so there’s nothing new or different about these services.

The main advantage is the opportunity to see major monuments and landmarks lit up after dark!

Night segway Tours DC

If you’re looking for other things to do after the sun goes down, make sure to read our posts on things to do at night in DC and on  DC Night Tours .

The 2 ½ hour tour provided by this company is also available at 6:30 pm or 7:30 pm depending on the day of the week.

It's essentially the same as their daytime tour, but offered during the evening instead.

If you want to enjoy the sunset and see DC as the lights come on, this is an excellent option.

  • Ticket Prices: $75 per person
  • Availability: Most weekdays
  • Hours: 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm

This company provides their 2 ½ hour segway tour at 6 pm (ending at 8:30 pm) from March 23rd - November 2nd. Depending on when you take the trip, this may be more of a sunset tour than a night tour.

You can expect to see largely the same attractions that they cover during their daytime tours. The only major difference is that this outing is offered in the evening.

  • Ticket Prices: $64 per person
  • Hours: 6 pm

Excellent highlights tour of washington.

Using the Segway® was easier than we first thought and practicing in the park was a good way to improve our skills prior to “real” use. The tour was a good way of seeing the highlights without feeling worn out or tired. The cost was not overpriced as the whole experience was very enjoyable and worth much more. Our tour guide, Tyler, was patient, informative and an excellent resource for questions. The traffic and pedestrian interaction was not a problem, and rolling along the entire route was very smooth and easy. We would recommend the Segway PT tour as an easy way to see the highlights without the physical exertion of walking or other methods of transportation. Riding the Segway PT was enjoyable in and of itself.

  • M6154ATdavidt 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Night Bike Tour Mixed Experience Our 6:30pm night bike tour provided a mixed experience. Despite some rain showers due to uncooperative weather, we really enjoyed the sites we visited and were able to take some great photos. However, we encountered issues related to both the bikes and our guide that merit attention. First and foremost, we encountered some safety issues during the tour due to various bike-related problems. Early in the tour, my son's bike had an issue when the chain fell off the sprocket. Fortunately, we were able to diagnose and resolve the problem. However, as we approached the end of the tour, another participant's bike experienced a similar issue when the chain came off and stuck between the sprocket and the frame. It was concerning that this was the second bike in our group to break down, and also concerning that our guide lacked even basic tools, such as a screwdriver or wrench which could have corrected the issue. The guide had to request a replacement bike, but the only other staff member was already assisting another group with another broken bike. We were left with uncertainty about the duration of the delay. Eventually, one of our group members inquired with the guide and received approval for the rest of us to ride back to the store independently, which added to potential safety issues and frustration. With three bike breakdowns in one night, it raises questions about maintenance and safety protocols. Beyond the bike-related problems, the tour itself did not meet our expectations. Our guide seemed to lack the experience and in-depth knowledge that we had hoped for and his explanations of the sites we visited were too basic. Given the tour's cost and experience we’ve had on other tours, we anticipated more comprehensive and insightful information about these locations. In an effort to address our concerns, I reached out to the management and also requested a partial refund. They responded promptly with an apology and offered a full credit for another tour, which we appreciated. However, we were left disappointed that the decision seemed to disregard the safety and maintenance concerns we encountered. Read more Written 8 November 2023

It was so much fun that we took our husbands back the next afternoon/evening to do the evening tour of the monuments all lit up. It was an excellent experience. • Q5565MYsaraht 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fantastic Experience This trip was so much fun that we did it twice in one trip! Joe was the ultimate tour guide that led me and a friend around during the day to see all the sights. It was so much fun that we took our husbands back the next afternoon/evening to do the evening tour of the monuments all lit up. It was an excellent experience. Alex at the front desk could not have been nicer and they did their job with such great hospitality. You have to check this out if you are in D.C.! Read more Written 5 November 2023
