PGA Tour 2K23 brings its trademark simulation golf to consoles in October, and it includes an impressive 20 licensed official courses at launch for players to experience. Every golf course available has its own strengths and weaknesses, with each being more appealing than others depending on each player's play style when they hit the links.

Unlike other sports games like NBA 2K23 or Madden 23 where the opponent is another team or player, in golf games the opponent is the course, with each course having a unique personality and feel. While the playing surfaces in football, basketball, and hockey are all the same and the only differences are the aesthetic of the stadiums, every golf course will present a dramatically different challenge to players.

Hitting the Links in PGA Tour 2K23

HB Studios and 2K Sports have upped their game with PGA Tour 2K23 by signing Tiger Woods as the cover athlete and including courses that even the most casual fan would recognize and be excited to experience. The presence of a golf legend like Tiger Woods in the game puts more pressure on HB Studios to create a deeper PGA Tour experience than the game has ever had before, requiring more authentic championship courses and relying less on the created courses that The Golf Club was known for.

While the course list in PGA Tour 2K23 is missing some notable legendary courses like Augusta National and St. Andrews, both of which are in the upcoming EA Sports PGA Tour , gems like the Detroit Golf Club and Canada's St. George's Golf and Country Club are hidden on the list among the various better-known courses. A wide range of course types is included in PGA Tour 2K23 , with some heavy in water hazards, some demanding long and accurate drives, and others putting a priority on an accurate short game. Every course has its own appeal in terms of scenery and play style, with each of them being the location of PGA Tour events, but some stand out a little more than others.

TPC Sawgrass

Home of THE PLAYERS Championship every year, TPC Sawgrass in northern Florida was designed by famous golf course architect Pete Dye and opened in 1987. One of two courses at the complex, the championship course at TPC Sawgrass features tight fairways and water hazards on nearly every hole, requiring players in PGA Tour 2K23 to be precise and mindful of wind, lie and slope at all times.

Pebble Beach

It's not arriving in the game until a post-launch free update, but Pebble Beach is a classic American golf course that is one of the very best and toughest courses in PGA Tour 2K23 . Pebble Beach is frequently rated the top public golf course in the United States, and it has hosted six U.S. Open tournaments with another four iterations of the major tournament heading there between 2027 and 2044.

Spyglass Hill boasts stunning vistas and holes that are filled with huge sand traps and rocky terrain for players to navigate around with care. Since it is so close in proximity to Pebble Beach, players will have the same environmental challenges to work around on Spyglass Hill, meaning that there will be challenging wind gusts and inconsistent terrain, so they will have to account for things like elevation and wind in PGA Tour 2K23 by adjusting their aim or by changing the club length they are using on a shot.

Of course, if fans don't want to play on a licensed course in PGA Tour 2K23 , HB Studios' signature course designer returns in this year's game for fans to create fun, challenging, or downright crazy courses. The course designer in PGA Tour 2K21 resulted in thousands of user-made courses for players to choose from, meaning the course offerings never felt short.

10 TPC Southwind

Designed by Ron Prichard and located in Shelby County, Tennessee, TPC Southwind is the only private golf club in the state that's part of the PGA Tour. It has a total of ten water hazards and 94 bunkers, making it one of the most challenging courses in the entire tour.

The course demands perfect club selection to navigate its numerous bodies of water along with its dogleg holes. You will need to be as accurate as can be to land the first shot before the holes angle off and drastically change.

9 East Lake Golf Club

East Lake Golf Club is where the PGA Tour Championship occurs. It has been replicated in great detail in PGA Tour 2K23. East Lake was established in 1904 on the site of an old amusement park, with a layout that makes it one of the easier PGA Tour courses.

The standout hole that can give you some trouble is the 15th at East Lake. It's over 200 yards from the tee to the green, up a hill, with a lake in between. Missing the trajectory or not getting enough distance will dump the ball right in the water, taking your score down with it.

8 The Renaissance Club

The Renaissance Club is a new course in PGA Tour 2K23, but has an old-school feel to it. Residing in Scotland, the Renaissance Club is a wide-open links course with beautiful scenery. This includes a glistening ocean that runs along its outer perimeter.

There's nothing particularly challenging about this course, and it doesn't come with any special gimmicks. It is simply a modern golf course with a touch of the past that is incredible to lay your eyes upon.

7 TPC Louisiana

TPC Louisiana is known as one of the South's best golf courses. It has been a focal point of the PGA Tour since it opened in 2004. It has a treacherous amount of water hazards and bunkers, but is combined with natural flourishing fairways.

This course is home to one of the most popular features in the PGA Tour 2K series. An alligator is often seen emerging from one of the lakes, but don't worry — it won't swallow the golf ball or come after your in-game golfer. It is there to represent the location and the difficulty of the course.

6 TPC Deere Run

Silvis, Illinois is where TPC Deere Run has hosted the John Deere Classic since 1971. Trees, trees, and more trees line the holes of this course. It is known as one of the trickiest PGA Tour courses because of its natural landscape and the twists and turns incorporated by architect D.A. Welbring.

The Rock River runs along the property and is most prominently seen near the 16th hole. The green on this hole overlooks the river, providing an amazing view. It often distracts golfers from the tough journey down the fairway, filled with bunkers and smooth hills that send balls rolling backwards.

5 Riviera Country Club

4 Quail Hollow Club

The Quail Hollow Club golf course was designed by George Cobb in 1961 to give Charlotte, North Carolina one of the finest courses in existence. Quail Hollow delivers a mix of quick holes and surprisingly frustrating fairways.

Many of its holes are straight and narrow, requiring accurate shots to stay on the path to the green. Chipping the golf ball slightly will send it right into the thick grass of the rough. 2 TPC Sawgrass

The new game, which comes in three editions , promises a ton of content – from a start-studded roster of golfing pros, including Tiger Woods, to the world’s most well known and respected gold courses.

The course designer in PGA Tour 2K21 had 288,00 courses designed by the community, and it looks like the mode will be just as popular in PGA Tour 2K23. If you did make a course in the previous iteration of the game, then don’t worry you can bring them along with you.

They won’t be published straight away though, you will have the chance to go in and make some changes and well needed updates with the new content in the game. Fortunately for players this mode is more user friendly now, according to the developers, this way it should entice new players into the course designer. 

This means making sure there are less things on a screen at a time and other quality of life improvements, as well as a detailed tutorial to ease players in. 

One of the biggest additions to PGA Tour 2K23’s Course Designer , is the focus on new flora. There has been a large focus on foliage, trees and nature in general for the new game, whilst there is scope for more content to potentially release in the future.

If you’re looking to hit the virtual links, you’ll have a hard time finding a better way to do so than in  PGA Tour 2K23 . However, no sports game is complete without a smattering of different courses to visit. Getting your friends together to hit the course in this game is easier than ever before, and you won’t need to make a round-trip flight to make it happen.

Hit the island green at Sawgrass, recreate Bryson's monster drive at Bay Hill, then a trip to Scotland for a quick 18 at the Renaissance Club!

PGA Tour 2K23 is due for release in October and this week they revealed the officially licensed courses that will be available to play in the game. No fewer than 17 courses return from 2K21 (there was no 2K22 version) while three new venues - the South Course of Wilmington Country Club, The Renaissance Club, and St. George’s Golf and Country Club, not to be confused with Royal St George’s, home of the 2021 Open Championship – will also be available at launch to keep "players swinging with swag and challenging their crews on a total of 360 unique fairways and dance floors." Erm, great!

While a video game can't compare with the magic of putting on your best golf shoes , grabbing your golf bag and heading to your local course to ’swing with swag’ with your best driver , they do allow you to play golf at some of the world's best golf courses. Places most of us will never get to experience in real life. 

In addition to the initial 20, more courses will be added post launch, including Pebble Beach Golf Club, Spyglass Hill, Torrey Pines (North and South Courses) plus new, custom courses created in PGA Tour 2K23 Course Designer feature. These will be free to all players on all platforms.

I used to play the EA Sports PGA Tour games a lot when I was younger and had more time on my hands, but it's been four or five years since I last bought one. The new trailer for 2K23 has reeled me in though. I saw Tiger sitting on an 'Iron Throne' at the end of the video and was like "ok, I'm in. Sign me up to this".

So I'm excited for the release of this game and much like if I was going on a real golf trip I already have my schedule planned. I know exactly which courses I’ll be playing and the order I’ll be playing them in. Here are the five I’m most looking forward to experiencing:

Bay Hill Golf Club & Lodge

I’ve been obsessed with this course since I was a teenager when I discovered that my favourite golfer, the late great Payne Stewart, lived adjacent to the 12th tee at Bay Hill. I’ve wanted to play there ever since and one day hopefully I will. For now though this will have to suffice.

Bay Hill is most well known for hosting Arnold Palmer’s annual tournament on the PGA Tour. ‘Arnie’ is also no longer with us but the Arnold Palmer invitational lives on and it’s a tournament I try to catch on TV whenever possible. 

I’m most looking forward to attempting the tee shot over the lake on par 5 6th hole when you have to decide just how brave a line you want to take, which depends on how far you can carry the ball with driver. Some of you may recall the iconic moment in 2021 when Bryson DeChambeau smashed one over the furthest part of the lake and then celebrated as the ball was flying through the air.

TPC Sawgrass

Ok, this is not exactly an original choice as Sawgrass one of the most famous courses in the world and has been a staple course for gamers since the early days of golf video games. The short 17th hole is one of the most famous in golf. When you look at this hole it doesn’t look especially difficult and it always surprises me when I see some of the world’s best golfers dumping one (or more) in the lake on such a short hole.

I’d love to play there in real life to see if I could hit that island green and - I’ll be honest - I strongly fancy my chances of doing it (even as a 12 handicapper!) but until that day arrives I’ll have to settle for attempting it from the comfort of my home on my xbox.

The Renaissance Club

One of the rare courses on 2k23 that is not in the US. The Renaissance Club is the home of the Scottish Open and while it is far from being one of the best courses on offer north of the border (it’s not ‘linksy’ enough for me) it offers something different to most other courses on the game. The 18th is the hole I’m looking forward to playing as it’s a long par 4 where you need to carry your tee shot over an old drystone wall.

Riviera Country Club

It’s a favourite course among players on the PGA Tour but Riviera does not have the global clout of a Pebble Beach or a Pinehurst. It isn’t a course the casual fan will be aware of but it’s a true test of golf. Johnny Miller described Riviera as "Definitely one of the greatest, no-nonsense golf courses in the world! It requires a player to play every club in his bag and every shot in his game."

Riviera is the home of the annual Genesis Invitational event on the PGA Tour which. is another tournament I enjoy watching, so this is a course I definitely want to play.

East Lake Golf Club

The home of the FedEx Cup PGA Tour Championship, where Rory McIlroy recently pipped Scotty Sheffler to this year’s crown, walking away with $18m in the process. I won’t be winning a penny when I play this course from my sofa but it will be good experience for the day when I make it as a pro and I play there with the Tour Championship on the line. What? It could happen, I’m still only 49 years old. I’ve got time.

So there you have it, that’s my schedule all sorted for when the game hits the shelves in a few weeks time.

PGA Tour 2K23 Deluxe Edition and PGA Tour 2K23 Tiger Woods Edition are set for release on 11 October, followed by PGA TOUR 2K23 Standard Edition on 14 October, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam.

Keep in mind a few things about this current list. First, there will be more courses made available to PGA Tour 2K23 after launch. 2K has stated that additional courses that are officially licensed, including Pebble Beach Golf Club, Spyglass Hill, and Torrey Pines North and South Courses, will be made available post-launch as free DLC.

Second, there will be a number of notable courses that will not be officially licensed for PGA Tour 2K23. This will almost assuredly include the courses for the four Majors, as EA Sports has an exclusive agreement for the licensing rights for those events. Those events will be a part of EA Sports’ upcoming golf game, EA Sports PGA Tour, which is slated to go live in the Spring of 2023.

Headlined by the South Course of Wilmington Country Club, The Renaissance Club, and the St. George's Golf and Country Club – the full PGA Tour 2K23 Licensed Course list has just been revealed . With 20 total licensed courses, players will be able to enjoy PGA Tour 2K23 to a tee with full immersion and authenticity.

On top of the seventeen courses returning from PGA Tour 2K21, PGA Tour 2K23's full course list gets three new licensed courses, as mentioned above. This completes a round of twenty total courses for PGA Tour 2K23 – each one licensed so that 2K could recreate them with utmost faithfulness, authenticity, and accuracy. All twenty courses for PGA Tour 2K23 were created by 2K and HB Studios using a combination of aerial drone footage, lidar data, high resolution photography, and supporting assets provided by each course's management to ensure that each one is true to life from its measurements, buildings, signage, hazards, and climate. This ensures that the authentic PGA Tour experience would be replicated in the game down to the smallest detail.

The complete PGA Tour 2K23 licensed course list is as follows:

• Bay Hill Golf Club & Lodge (Arnold Palmer Course);
• Copperhead (Innisbrook);
• Detroit Golf Club;
• East Lake Golf Club;

• Wilmington Country Club (South Course).

These twenty will compose PGA Tour 2K23's launch licensed courses. Meanwhile, the Pebble Beach Golf Club, Spyglass Hill, and the Torrey Pines North and South Courses will be added to the game post-launch. After going through PGA Tour 2K23's 23 courses post-launch, players will also be able to make use of the Course Designer that will arrive later on, free to all players on all platforms.

Fallout 76, PGA Tour 2K23, and Classified France ‘44 join Xbox Free Play Days this weekend

Microsoft's Free Play Days promotion is back with another round of titles for Xbox Game Pass Core and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to try out. While two of the three available games this weekend, PGA Tour 2K23 and Classified France '44, are for those subscription holders , Fallout 76's offer is available to any and all Xbox players for free.

With the Fallout TV series on Amazon Prime Video having just launched, Microsoft is offering the Bethesda multiplayer experience for anyone to try until Tuesday, April 18. Unlike other games in the series, Fallout 76 is a completely multiplayer experience, serving as a prequel to the earlier installments.

You explore the post-apocalyptic lands of West Virginia, referred to as Appalachia in-game, engaging in quests, battling mutated creatures, and diving dungeons with help from other survivors.

Meanwhile, from the regular Free Play Days corner, arrives PGA Tour 2K23 for golfing fans. It features a hefty career mode touting the FedExCup, as well as licensed courses, and iconic pros to compete against. Players can even design their own courses and play with friends in the cross-play enabled multiplayer modes.

At the same time, Classified: France '44 is a recently released tactical strategy game where you take command of an allied special operations team in Nazi-occupied France. XCOM players should feel right at home in this entry.

Rain gave way to confounding wind, especially through Amen Corner

Bryson DeChambeau (65) and Scottie Scheffler (66) had the best opening rounds of the 88th Masters Tournament on Thursday.

The other big winner was Mother Nature.

Conditions were confounding. Players were vexed.

“It was hard to figure it out, especially down at Amen Corner,” said Lucas Glover (71). “You know, you're at the mercy of it on some of the holes, to be fair. It was a struggle out there.”

With that in mind, PGATOUR.COM found Mother Nature getting in some late reps on the range and was granted a brief interview. (Answers have been edited for clarity.)

PGATOUR.COM: Big day for you today. You had everyone talking.

Mother Nature: Thank you.

PGATOUR.COM: How good were those rounds by DeChambeau and Scheffler?

Mother Nature: Next question.

PGATOUR.COM: Sorry. Sore subject. I assume you were you most proud of the rain delay?

MN (Laughs): Please. Did you see what the storms did to Texas, Louisiana and Florida? I’d say this Masters got lucky. I didn’t even wreck many shoes. I mean, just last year the final group had to play 30 holes on Sunday. I live for that stuff.

PGATOUR.COM: But the rain – Christo Lamprecht (74) mentioned it after he spun what he thought was a perfect wedge shot into the drink on 15: “I think the little bit of rain might've softened the greens up, and I don't think I was thinking about that.”

MN (nodding): Sure, I’m aware of that.

PGATOUR.COM: You listen to the press conferences?

MN: Voices carry on the wind.

PGATOUR.COM: Wyndham Clark, who is trying to become the first first-timer to win since 1979, also spun a wedge off the front of the green and doubled 15. After signing for a 1-over 73 he said the wind was “blowing 20 (mph) and gusting” and even affected his putting. He added that (hole) 15 “really put a damper on the round.” Do you feel any remorse?

MN: Nah. He shot that course-record 60 at Pebble Beach after I’d soaked it to the bones. I’d say we’re even.

PGATOUR.COM: You had so many highlights in Round 1, but going back to my original question…

MN: You said this interview was going to be brief. (Awkward pause.) Fine. What was I most proud of? Lamprecht going bogey-bogey on Nos. 10 and 11 straight into the worst of the gale. He’d just shot 34 but came home in 40 after the bogey-bogey start on the back and the chaos on the 15th. I was feeling it. Fun stuff.

PGATOUR.COM: Not sure anyone else described 10 and 11 that way. A lot of guys went bogey-bogey there: Cameron Davis, Jake Knapp, Denny McCarthy, Justin Thomas, Grayson Murray …

MN: A few of ’em were hitting lumber into No. 11. (Slaps knee.) Classic! And don’t forget about the doubles.

PGATOUR.COM: Right. Viktor Hovland, 4-under as he came to the 10th, hit his second shot right of the right bunker, above the hole – utter no-man’s land. He made 6. Adam Hadwin doubled the 10th, too.

MN: Eh, the Hadwin double was almost a cliché, your garden-variety tee shot into the left trees. Give a guy enough of a headwind, odds are he’ll try for too much and hit a pull-hook. I respect the fundamentals.

PGATOUR.COM: Those trees left of the 10th were Rory McIlroy’s undoing in 2011.

MN: The trees, the trees. Listen, I know those guys, and the stories they could tell …

PGATOUR.COM: Speaking of McIlroy (71), who got off to a so-so start in his bid for the only major he needs for the career Grand Slam, he said, “It was a little scrappy. The conditions are tricky. Hard to fully commit to shots … to commit to where the wind direction is at times.” Can I get your reaction?

MN: Listen, I like Rory. Who doesn’t? That 2-iron he hit into the worst of it at the Genesis Scottish Open last summer – respect. But when he says it’s hard to fully commit to shots? Two words: job done.
