Charles Esten and the ‘Nashville’ Cast Are Mounting a Reunion Tour

Five years after the series finale of the hit television show Nashville , the cast is reuniting for a tour this fall.

Singer-songwriter Charles Esten , who starred as Deacon Claybourne on the show, says that he'll be performing hit songs from the Nashville soundtrack with co-stars Clare Bowen, Jonathan Jackson and Sam Palladio. Chris Carmack will also join the tour for one date.

"Right now, it's been so long since we've done this together that we're really looking to fulfill for ourselves, what we're fulfilling for [the fans], which is 'Let's go back, let's go sit in that beautiful car we got to drive around called Nashville ,'" Esten tells People . "I get to put Deacon's boots back on again, if you will. I'll definitely be standing behind some of his guitars, as I ended up with them."

Not all cast members are confirmed to join — star Hayden Panettiere, who played the role of Juliette Barnes, isn't on the list for the reunion, though Esten has nothing but praise for her contributions to the show.

"Clearly, her acting was so great on that show. I think her voice, her performances, were just stunning and super consistent," he comments. "I'd be the first one in line to buy a Hayden Panettiere album."

Meanwhile, while the focus will be on fan-favorite songs from Nashville , Esten says that the crowds might be treated to some surprises, too.

"We're still talking set list, and we always like to have a song or two up our sleeve that you might not quite expect," he hints.

"The music is all so meaningful to us, and what we found over the years is that for people that love Nashville , that's true for them as well. I'll get to sing a couple songs with Clare that we did on the show, definitely Jonathan and Clare and Sam will do a song or two together. We're real excited because Chris Carmack will be able to join us in Chicago, so that opens up a few more of those songs that I always love so well."

Tickets for the Nashville reunion tour dates are on sale now . In non- Nashville news, Esten is preparing to release his long-awaited debut album. That project, Love Ain't Pretty , drops on Jan. 26, 2024.

'Nashville' TV show stars to play reunion concert at Ryman Auditorium

nashville cast reunion tour 2023

Believe it or not, it's been five years since the primetime TV series "Nashville" — the country music drama that helped usher in a boom of tourism and transplants in the real Music City — aired its final episode.

But here's some great news for diehard fans: "Nashville" is coming back. Not to the screen, but the stage.

Cast members Clare Bowen, Charles Esten, Jonathan Jackson and Sam Palladio will play a reunion concert at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on September 25.

The concert is part of a transatlantic reunion tour the quartet is embarking on this year. They'll also perform in Rosemont, Illinois on September 23 (with a bonus appearance by cast member Chris Carmack) before heading to the U.K. in October.

"I’m thrilled to be reuniting on stage with these wonderful Nashville friends here in the U.S.," Esten wrote on social media , also noting that the Ryman was where the show's final scene took place.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday via Ryman.com . You can find info on all the "Nashville" reunion shows at tix.to/Nashville

Some of Nashville ’s biggest stars are coming together for an upcoming reunion tour with newly-announced U.S. performance dates. The highly-anticipated shows add to a list of international appearances by some of the most beloved cast members.

Charles Esten , Clare Bowen , Chris Carmack , Sam Palladio and Jonathan Jackson are set to take the stage together at Rosemont Theatre in Chicago, Illinois. Days later, Esten, Bowen, Palladio and Jackson will perform at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The actors and artists are known for their roles as Deacon Claybourne, Scarlett O’Connor, Will Lexington, Gunnar Scott and Avery Barkley, respectively.

“I’m thrilled to be reuniting on stage with these wonderful Nashville friends here in the U.S.,” Esten wrote in an Instagram caption on Monday. “First, at Chicago’s beautiful  @rosemonttheatre  and then, most fittingly, on that historic stage where  @nashvillecmt  said it’s final goodbye and sang its last song - the Mother Church herself-  @theryman .”

Carmack added that he “can’t wait to jam with some old friends and celebrate the special show we began 10 years ago! …This is going to be a VERY special night for me! I sincerely hope there’s some big Nashville fans out there who will come share it with us!!”

Nashville followed “the lives and tragedies of rising and fading country music stars in Nashville, Tennessee.” The musical drama created by Callie Khouri premiered in 2012 and ran through 2018 on ABC and CMT. Other fan-favorite stars who appeared in the series alongside the reunion tour performers include Hayden Panettiere (Juliette Barnes), Connie Britton (Rayna Jaymes), Lennon Stella and Maisy Stella (Maddie Conrad and Daphne Conrad, respectively), and many others. Tons of superstar artists made appearances throughout the series, including Brad Paisley , Carrie Underwood , Chris Young , Luke Bryan , Trisha Yearwood and Kelly Clarkson , to name a few.

The new “Nashville Reunion Tour” dates in Chicago and Nashville are set for September 23 and September 25, respectively.

Nashville Live In Concert Reunion 2023 UK Tour: Line-Up, Dates & Tickets

By Maxim Mower

Around five years since the characters of Nashville hung up their cowboy boots and put their simmering feuds aside, the stars of the hit TV are returning to the UK for a long-awaited tour.

It marks the first time Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Sam Palladio and Jonathan Jackson will be performing together in the UK since 2018, which saw them embarking on a sold-out arena tour.

The new run of dates will take the cast of Nashville across Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, London and Cardiff, with the Live In Concert Reunion Tour set to kick off on October 11.

Due to high demand, an additional show has been added at London's Eventim Apollo.

Esten, who played the recovering alcoholic and legendary guitarist, Deacon Claybourne, has a new range of solo singles under his belt, with the Outer Banks star currently readying his debut album.

He'll undoubtedly be performing an assortment of these alongside a slew of hits from Nashville , including the heartwarming ‘A Life That's Good’ and ‘Sanctuary’.

Attendees will be hoping Clare Bowen, who appeared in Nashville as country prodigy Scarlett O'Connor, will play her dark, ominous anthem, ‘Black Roses’.

She'll also be expected to take the stage alongside Jonathan Jackson and her on-screen songwriting partner, Gunner Scott (Sam Palladio), to perform their much-loved track, ‘My Song’.

Both Palladio and Bowen have continued to release music since Nashville ended, with the latter dropping a couple of new singles alongside her husband as Bowen Young.

Completing the quartet of Nashville stars that'll be heading across The Pond in 2023 is Jonathan Jackson, who played the fan-favourite songwriter and producer, Avery Barkley.

Barkley was championed by viewers for his rollercoaster of a character arc.

Jackson releases music with his band, Enation, with the group having put out their most recent project, Ultraviolet Empire in July 2022.

He'll bring a number of these tracks out on the road with him, along with hit Nashville songs such as ‘Everything I'll Ever Need’.

Nashville star chris carmack gets concert ready in new video ahead of reunion tour.

Nashville star Chris Carmack gets ready to join his former co-stars for the upcoming reunion concert tour in a video bringing him closer to Will.

  • Nashville star Chris Carmack joins his former co-stars for a reunion concert tour, marking the first time the cast has played together in 5 years.
  • The TV show Nashville , known for its gripping stories and stellar music, spawned successful careers for its cast members and had sold-out shows at concert halls.
  • The reunion tour will feature performances of songs from the show as well as new material from each artist, with the first show taking place in Chicago on September 23.

Nashville star Chris Carmack preps to re-enter the arena in a new video shared on Instagram ahead of the show's reunion tour. The TV show, which aired first on ABC for four seasons and CMT for two more from 2012 to 2018, spawned successful careers for multiple actor-musicians depicting fictional characters dealing with the real-life ins-and-outs of Tennessee's country music scene and balancing family, artistic struggle, and personal relationships. American Horror Story 's Connie Britton and Scream 6 's Hayden Panettiere led the star-studded Nashville cast alongside Clare Bowen, Eric Close, Charles Esten, Jonathan Jackson and Sam Palladio, among others.

Just over five years after the show came to an end, Palladio and Will Lexington actor Chris Carmack have shared a joint Instagram video announcing the latter's involvement in the Nashville concert reunion.

The humorous video, as seen above, finds the Gunnar actor Palladio calling a haggard Carmack about the concert and inviting him to join his former co-stars. The actor must be persuaded to get off his couch and return to his place in the concert spotlight, with Palladio reminding Carmack of the success he had as Will and encouraging Carmack him to truck on, resulting in a major makeover.

New Tour Marks The First Time Nashville's Stars Play Together In 5 Years

The last concert tour for the show wrapped in March 2018 as a lead-in to its final season. Nashville 's gripping stories , beloved characters, and stellar music spawned international acclaim and sold out shows at concert halls. In the vein of a Monkees -esque transformation from screen to stage, the upcoming reunion tour will see the first time the cast has played together since their farewell show at the Grand Ole Opry, appropriately in the show's title city.

Each of the players has progressed in their own individual rights since Nashville ended, including actor Will Chase, who most recently appeared in Tom Holland's divisive Apple TV+ show The Crowded Room , and then-newcomer Odessa A'zion, who later starred in 2022's Hellraiser . The show served as a launchpad for new talent, and the reunion of the stars half a decade later is already proving to be another exciting venture for the passionate fans of the show who helped petition its survival when CMT picked it up.

With the first performance kicking off in Chicago on September 23, the Nashville reunion concert tour will see Bowen, Esten, Jackson, and Palladio take stage to sing some of the tunes from the show, as well as new material from each of the artists, with Carmack now joining for the initial show. The remaining foursome will then travel across the United States and the United Kingdom throughout the year, doing what they do best, singing and playing music together.

Charles Esten, Sam Palladio and Jonathan Jackson on stage in Nashville The Reunion Tour

If you're looking for an evening of feel-good fun, I'd wholeheartedly recommend heading to the Nashville Reunion Tour. It's hard to believe the TV series Nashville is 13 years old. I found myself singing along to songs I thought I'd forgotten long ago tonight at Resorts World Arena (October 13) as stars from the hit show took to the stage.

The Emmy and Golden Globe award-nominated show followed the lives of Clare Bowen as Scarlett O'Connor, Jonathan Jackson as Avery Barkley and Sam Palladio as Gunner Scott as up-and-coming singer songwriters trying to get a break in the music business with the help of country music superstars like Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne.

I went to see the Nashville in Concert tour at Birmingham Symphony Hall back in 2018 and loved every minute of it. Having since re-watched the series with my kids - who are musicians in a band - I was keen to see my youngest son's reaction. And he thoroughly enjoyed it too.

Poll: Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?

Unlike the previous tour, this wasn't so much about the cast members singing classics from the series as them showcasing their new material. We both wished they'd have played more of the old songs but we loved their new material too.

Charles Esten, Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen on stage in Nashville The Reunion Tour

Highlights included Cornish-born Sam Palladio's new songs Meanwhile in London and Tennessee plus a song he wrote about his grandad falling for an American girl called Wake Me Up in Nashville. Charles Esten got everyone up on their feet with his catchy new song Down the Road, all about the fact you never know what's down the road and the thrill of being open to new experiences.

Clare Bowen performed an emotional version of Black Roses from the TV series, backed by the full band rather than just the piano, and Jonathan Jackson received a standing ovation for hitting the high notes perfectly in his version of Unchained Melody. We also loved his new song Hymns of Divine Eros. The show's main musician Colin Lindon was incredible to watch on guitar too.

The crowd was delighted by classics Borrow My Heart and Fade into You, and it was fun when 'Deacon' and 'Scarlett' went into the crowd to high five lots of the audience in Hand to Hold. There were lots of anecdotes and 'gratitude for the high energy in the room' throughout. And there certainly was lots of energy, with people up on their feet dancing, waving the flashlights on their mobiles and singing along to the songs.

The encore hit the button just right as they returned to stage singing the much-loved 'Juliette' song Telescope blending into Get By with a Little Help from My Friends. But it was the final number - A Life That's Good - that created an electric moment when the whole arena sang an entire verse back to the cast. It had everyone smiling as they made their way out of Resorts World Arena, cowboy hats and all.

You can still relive all the drama of Nashville as all seasons are currently streaming on Channel 4 . The tour continues tomorrow at Manchester 02 Apollo, London Eventim Apollo on Monday October 16 and Cardiff International Arena on Wednesday October 18. Find out more and book tickets via the Ticketmaster website . Go see it if you can!

Charles Esten Breaks Debut Album News, Talks Eric Paslay Collab and Upcoming 'Nashville' Reunion Tour (Exclusive)

The 'Outer Banks' star's long-awaited debut album 'Love Ain't Pretty' is due Jan. 26, 2024

nashville cast reunion tour 2023

Charles Esten 's debut album has been a long time coming.

While playing Deacon Claybourne — the loyal, brooding songwriter and guitarist struggling with addiction — on the country soap Nashville for over six seasons , music became an integral part of the role. Naturally, his real-life began to somewhat parallel that of his on-screen alter-ego, and in 2016, Esten, 57, began releasing music of his own — allowing him to pursue a longtime passion properly.

"They call this a 10-year town, Nashville, and it's definitely been slightly over 10 years since I got here to shoot the show Nashville, " Esten told PEOPLE over the phone from Nashville. "And it's hard to overstate the impact it has had on my life."

The Outer Banks star continued: "Music was always my first love and I never stopped playing it and I never stopped writing it. But the character of Deacon Claybourne opened up this opportunity to jump back in and I did fully and instantly."

Two years later, he had released 54 singles in 54 weeks, setting a Guinness World Record for the title of "the most consecutive weeks to release an original digital single by a music act."

Now, he's set to release his long-awaited debut album Love Ain't Pretty on Jan. 26, 2024.

PEOPLE is exclusively revealing the tracklist for his forthcoming LP and offering a first listen of Esten's new single with Eric Paslay , called " Down the Road ." In an interview, the musician opens up about collaborating with Paslay, the meaning behind his album title and what fans can expect from the Nashville Reunion tour.

Love Ain't Pretty Tracklist

  • “Love Ain’t Pretty"
  • “A Little Right Now”
  • “One Good Move”
  • “In a Bar Somewhere”
  • “Another Song About You”
  • “When Love Ain’t Love”
  • “Candlelight”
  • “Back in My Life”
  • “Make You Happy”
  • “Willing to Try”
  • “Maybe I’m Alright”
  • “Down the Road (feat. Eric Paslay)”
  • “Somewhere in the Sunshine”

Congratulations on your record. I feel like it’s been a bit of a long time coming.

It absolutely has. I started off making a whole bunch of singles, actually a world record number of singles. I put out 54 singles in 54 weeks. I think that started back in 2016. I [was] still working in Nashville and hanging out with all these incredible writers, producers, musicians, and I was finally in Music City after all these years. So I just went for it and I said, I'm going to start out putting singles. An album is more a statement on who you are at that point in time. It's more thematic or has a unified thing to it than a single needs to.

Clearly once you've done a year's worth-plus singles, you take a little break. I didn't realize it would be quite so long. I made a start at an album right before COVID struck, and I felt like between the lockdowns and the way the world changed all around us, some of the things I was thinking, saying or singing weren't quite what I was feeling at that moment.

How did you come up with the album title Love Ain't Pretty ?

It's funny. It was the last song written for the album, and it was the only song co-written with my producer Marshall Altman, and I wrote it with him and another great friend and songwriter Jimmy Yeary. And we wrote it right there in the studio, the three of us, and by the time we were done, it just instantly felt like the throughline of the album that love, like life, it’s not pretty. If you're a caring, sensitive person, it can bring a whole lot of pain. I like that because the title makes you think that it's a negative thing you're saying about love, but in the end, it's a positive thing.

Mary Hooper / Milkglass Creative

We’re offering an exclusive listen of “Down the Road,” which features Eric Paslay. How did the collaboration come about?

I wrote that one a couple of years ago pre-COVID, and Eric has been a friend for much of the time I've been here —  since I got here in 2012 to shoot Nashville . I'm such a fan of his, and I'm always blown away by his songwriting talent. By the way, he was a songwriter on the very first song played on the show in Nashville. It was not one of the many incredible originals that were to come later, but it was “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” — Eli Young Band's version of that song [that] was the first music as the credits rolled and as the camera came in over Nashville.

Over the years we kept threatening to write together as you do in this town, and then we finally got together with his friend Dylan Altman, no relation to Marshall Altman, and three of us wrote three songs in two days. We wrote one and then started another and didn't finish, came back and wrote two. I just had this feeling that this [“Down the Road”] was a special song for me and over the last couple of years, we played it live a number of times and always got a great reaction to it.

What’s the meaning behind your latest single “Down the Road”?

It's a song that takes on the notion that sometimes when things are going poorly [we think] they're going to stay that way and that we know what's coming. It's very easy to think of ourselves as being at the end of our own sad movie when things are going that poorly for us. This song just says, maybe you don't know what's down the road. Maybe there's things you could never possibly imagine. And that's how I feel. I do. I always try to remind myself that this too shall pass.

Kirsten Balani

“Down the Road” has a Bruce Springsteen-esque vibe, but how do you define the sound of the record?

Well, that was the issue when I was even considering an album. If you ask me what's the music I was raised on, what's the music I love, it's definitely a combination of country music — of Waylon [Jennings] and Hank [Williams] , Willie [Nelson] and Johnny [Cash] — and then on top of that, definitely Bruce Springsteen . There's no hiding that influence, and there's no wanting to, honestly.

Elsewhere, they all have a bit of that bluesy country soul in them. I think that's naturally a part of who I am as an artist, what I would want to bring to it is feeling that emotion. There's definitely country all over it, like “In a Bar Somewhere.” But there's definitely a range of styles as well as a range of emotions and themes. “Maybe I'm All Right” has a real bluesy soulful feel, "Back In My Life" has a little bit more of an out on the road, almost Americana thing that Marcus Hummon brought to it, my co-writer on that.

What’s the story behind the visualizer for “Down the Road”?

I love that visualizer, and I'm grateful for the folks at Quinton Digital for making that happen. I'm savvy enough to know that even as an older guy, that you gotta have that iPhone out and catch some of those magic moments. And honestly, if these videos never even got out at all, I wanted them for me. I wanted the video of what it was like to record that song.

Now, when Eric [Paslay] got in there, I said, "Hold on, you're not recording yet. I got to get some video." And then, the other stuff from the studio was my wife Patty [Hanson] wandering around with the phone. I love the sound where this was recorded, and I'm super grateful to my friend Juanita who runs the place there and just to get to do it there. You can see that it's a beautiful room with a great vibe. And in fact, I think I recorded most of my Deacon Claybourne songs, not only in that studio, but perhaps in that one room.

The cast of Nashville is having a Reunion tour with Sam Palladio, Jonathan Jackson, Clare Bowen and Chris Carmack, who will play one of the dates. Any chance some other cast members will be joining — perhaps Hayden Panettiere?

First of all, I love her. Clearly, her acting was so great on that show. I think her voice, her performances, were just stunning and super consistent. I'd be first one in line to buy a Hayden Panettiere album.

Obviously you guys haven't reunited together on stage for four or five years. What can fans expect?

Well, we're still talking setlist, and we always like to have a song or two up our sleeve that you might not quite expect. Right now, it's been so long since we've done this together that we're really looking to fulfill for ourselves, what we're fulfilling for them, which is, “Let's go back, let's go sit in that beautiful car we got to drive around called Nashville .” I get to put Deacon's boots back on again, if you will. I'll definitely be standing behind some of his guitars, as I ended up with them.

This music is all so meaningful to us, and what we found over the years is that for people that love Nashville , that's true for them as well. I'll get to sing a couple of songs with Clare that we did on the show, definitely Jonathan and Clare and Sam will do a song or two together. We're real excited because Chris Carmack will be able to join us in Chicago, so that opens up a few more of those songs that I always love so well.

With the Nashville Reunion Concert tour right around the corner, Chris Carmack had to put himself through quite the mid-SAG-AFTRA strike makeover, as seen in an amusing video posted to his Instagram page.

The video (embedded below) portends to capture the moment that Sam Palladio , one of the tour’s four headliners, invited Carmack to join in the reunion — if only for two “One Night-Only” nights.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Chris Carmack (@realcarmack)

Announced back in April, the Nashville Reunion Tour is headlined by Nashville vets Palladio (who played Gunnar Scott on the six-season ABC drama), Clare Bowen (Scarlett O’Connor), Charles Esten (Deacon Claybourne) and Jonathan Jackson (Avery Barkley). The tour’s first stop is Chicago’s Rosemont Theatre on Sept. 23, where Carmack (who played Will Lexington) will join his four former castmates. Carmack will also participate on Sept. 25 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, before the four headliners head across the pond for shows in Scotland, England and Wales.

Ha ha! I would love to see this, hope it is televised someday. Along with Rayna and Juliette! What a reunion….

Wouldn’t that tour count as promoting Nashville? I thought the actors are banned from participating in things like this.

Nashville is an old show… they are the only ones really benefitting…

SAG-AFTRA say that actors should avoid talking about past work for companies they’re striking against.

I thought so too! If I remember correctly, they shouldn’t talk about past or current shows on Social Media because that would be considered promotion. Chris’ video played his character’s song, alluded to his (and Sam’s) character on the show and such. That being said, I was so happy to watch this. They seem to have a strong bond and to really like each other. I loved the show and even when the writing went downhill the cast was what kept me watching, because their chemistry was so amazing.

Wasn’t Broadway doing a Nashville musical? Whatever happened to that?

Broadway is doing a Bluebird Cafe musical.

I would’ve thought that the Strike would’ve prevented the concert in the same way that it prevents convention appearances for shows that’ve been off the air for 10+ years

Now if we can just get Sam to get a haircut and lose that mustache, we’ll be all set. (Sorry Sam… love you, you were my favorite… but not loving that mustache)

Loved loved Nashville, the music from it and these guys. I would have loved to have been able to see them in concert. Too bad Connie Britton couldn’t join them.

Connie’s a great actress and seems to be a very sweet person, but I don’t think singing is her strong suit. She sounded good on the show, but the other cast members did the heavy lifting when it came to the music.

How on earth did I miss this and why are there only 2 US shows??

I feel like the second question answers the first question, but also it’d be nice to have an answer to the second question.

The video is funny! I forgot how good Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen sang together, their songs/duets at the Bluebird Cafe were great. Would love to see the group’s concert and the Broadway Bluebird Cafe musical, hopefully one day both will be on streaming platforms.

I was just at an event a week ago at the Rosemont Theatre. What a wonderful location for this concert.
