Table of Contents
Why choose a combined trip with jordan and egypt.
A combined tour of Jordan and Egypt It’s a natural proposition for all kinds of people. These are some of the reasons that will convince you to visit both countries on the same trip:
- Great tourist proposals: both countries stand out for their extraordinary monuments, their rich history and their suggestive natural landscapes, among which the desert stands out… and many other surprises
- Proximity: Jordan and Egypt are part of the same geographical area, which is commonly referred to as the Middle East. Specifically, they share a coastline on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba
- Cultural similarities: both are Arab countries, with common characteristics in aspects such as gastronomy, language, crafts and folklore. But an observant traveler will also appreciate the subtle differences between the two
- Good transport connections, with each other and with other foreign countries: this makes it possible not only to travel from Jordan to Egypt and vice versa, but also to return home from a destination other than the one of arrival, so that the circuit does not need to be circular
Air connections between Jordan and Egypt, and with other countries
Given its tourism potential, transportation options are very varied in the combined circuits between Jordan and Egypt . To travel between the two countries, the most common thing is to take a flight between the two capitals: from Cairo International Airport to Amman Queen Alia Airport, or vice versa. It is a direct journey that takes just an hour and a quarter, approximately.
Cairo – Amman is the most used air route on our combined tours between Jordan and Egypt , but it is not the only one that exists: the Jordanian capital is connected to other Egyptian cities, some of them very touristy, such as Sharm el-Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula (Red Sea) or Alexandria, on the Mediterranean Sea. Sohag and Assiut are also other airports that usually have direct traffic to Jordan.
In addition, Jordan’s second airport, King Hussein Aqaba, also usually operates direct flights to Egypt, mainly to Cairo or to other cities such as Assiut. In any case, you can check the air routes available at any given time.
And when it comes to international flights at the start or end of the circuit, the options are no less numerous. As we tell you on this page on How to get there, Jordan receives flights from numerous cities in Europe, North America, Asia and Africa, especially through its Amman Queen Alia International Airport, while domestic flights from Europe or the aforementioned from Egypt land at Aqaba King Hussein.
Egypt, on the other hand, offers an even wider range, as Cairo International Airport acts as a major gateway for travellers from Europe, Asia, North America and Africa, but other secondary airports can also play the same role, most notably Luxor.
Other ways to travel between Jordan and Egypt
If you are not convinced by the option of flying or simply want to take advantage of other means of transport, you can contact us because we can design an alternative for your Jordan and Egypt combined : for example, the ferry between Nuweiba and Aqaba, which covers a sea distance of about 60 km in about 3 hours.
On the other hand, by road the options become more complex and tedious, since both countries do not share a land border, but are separated by a small strip of land occupied by the Israeli city of Eilat. So there would be two border crossings to cross and that usually means that this option is discarded, as it would complicate and slow down the program.
What to see in Egypt
Egypt is a country that needs no introduction: its main attractions are universally famous and our combined tours of Jordan and Egypt do not overlook them, far from it.
The great tourist icon of the country of the pharaohs are the Pyramids of Giza, promoted precisely by the great monarchs of that civilization. The three constructions of Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus form a monumental necropolis that is a must-see, as well as its nearby majestic Grand Egyptian Museum.
Giza is very close to Cairo, the capital, which is also another essential destination for those who visit this country: the mosques and the bazaar of Khan el-Jalili in the Islamic quarter or the historic churches of the Coptic quarter are some of the main surprises of this frenetic city… But there are many more.
If you are interested in a combined tour of Jordan and Egypt , you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to take a cruise in Upper Egypt, which will take you through the waters of the most mythical river in the world: the Nile. Starting in Aswan and ending in Luxor, you will travel through small towns with majestic temples such as Kom Ombo or Edfu.
Precisely in Upper Egypt, before starting the navigation and after finishing it, there are other tourist destinations of maximum interest thanks to their spectacular monuments. This is the case of Abu Simbel, next to Lake Nasser, and the eternal Luxor, with its temples of Karnak and its exciting Valley of the Kings.
And if all this is not enough for you, you can always extend the duration of your combined tour of Jordan and Egypt to add other destinations of interest in the latter country. For example, the Christian monasteries of Wadi Natrun, the sun and beach paradises on the Red Sea (Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada), the holy sites of Sinai or the oases of the Western Desert.
As you can see on this page, we already have pre-designed routes for your combined tour of Jordan and Egypt . But our agency can prepare a tailor-made proposal for your trip to Egypt and/or Jordan adapts to your preferences, both in terms of duration, destinations to visit and services to receive.

5 spectacular deserts you can enjoy with Mandala Tours
The desert is a natural ecosystem that fascinates everyone who visits it, especially if they know what to focus on and how to make the most of the experience. And that is what Mandala Tours agencies are specialized in: here we show you some spectacular deserts that are part of our circuits or that, if you wish, we can integrate into a fully customized trip.
Wadi Rum in Jordan, a World Heritage Site
We open our list of spectacular deserts with Wadi Rum, in Jordan . And we do not do it by chance: it is the only one in this list that has been declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity by Unesco . Its landscape of bare, reddish mountains, unlikely sand bridges and canyons with petroglyphs are simply unique. In addition, it is closely related to Lawrence of Arabia, which makes it more suggestive.
Sahara Desert, Morocco
The Sahara Desert is the largest desert in the world and crosses many countries in Africa. With Mandala Tours you can discover some of its most beautiful fractions, in the south of Morocco . In particular, its ergs or dune fields, such as Erg Chebbi (Merzouga desert) or Erg Chigaga (Zagora desert) . Overnight stays in the Berber tented camps are an experience, as well as reaching them by camel or 4×4. In its surroundings, it is also possible to learn about the life of semi-nomadic families or even witness live performances by Gnawa musicians, a folklore that is also protected by Unesco.
The Negev Desert, Israel
Located in the Southern District, in the south of the country, this desert is a pleasant surprise, especially for geology lovers. Among its main attractions are its three craters, especially the makhtesh Ramon, considered one of the largest non-meteoritic crater formations in the world . It is also one of the most accessible deserts for all types of people, thanks to its good signage and other support resources, even for people with reduced mobility.
Western Desert (and its colors), Egypt
Egypt is one of the countries in the world with the most desert terrain, as it extends on both sides of the Nile, this river being the exception (despite concentrating almost all of its population in its valley). The Western Desert is the largest in the country, and is dotted with several oases of great interest: Bahariya, Siwa and Farafra , among others. In this desert there are several areas of great interest, marked by their color: the White Desert and the Black Desert . The first, dominated by white limestone, with formations in the form of natural sculptures due to the effect of erosion. The second, for its volcanic stone.
Sinai Desert, Egypt
Another of Egypt’s great deserts is the one that extends along the Sinai Peninsula: it is actually an extension of the Arabian Desert of the neighboring peninsula of the same name, and is striking for its mountainous character . This, together with the sacred sites it houses, make for a unique visit. In particular, climbing Mount Sinai (Mount Horeb for the Jews), where Moses received the Tablets of the Law. Or visit the nearby monastery of Santa Catalina, with monumental architecture and places full of symbolism, such as the Burning Bush of Moses himself.
As you can see, no two deserts are alike and all of them hide spaces full of great interest. If you want to discover them or practice fascinating activities such as yoga or stargazing, just contact us to set up a tailor-made trip.

Visiting Spanish cities in northern Morocco
For non-Spaniards, it may be surprising (and therefore interesting) that there are two Spanish cities in northern Morocco, that is, on African soil and bathed by the Mediterranean Sea . In these lines we tell you what they are and why this situation occurs. And if you are a curious traveler, we explain why it is worth visiting them and what you should take into account to be able to do so.
Ceuta and Melilla, the Spanish cities north of Morocco
The two Spanish cities north of Morocco are Ceuta and Melilla . The first has about 85,000 inhabitants and is located relatively close to Tetuan and Alcazarquivir. The second has a similar population and is located a few kilometers from Nador. Between one and the other there is a distance of almost 400 km.
Both have the status of “autonomous city” of Spain , i.e., a status similar to that of the autonomous communities (regions) into which this country is administratively divided. Spanish law is applicable to all effects and purposes, with the only exception of the ambiguous situation of its military protection under NATO protection The scope of this defensive alliance, in its Treaty of Washington, mentions the territories of Europe, North America or insular zones covering the Atlantic to the north of the Tropic of Cancer as its sphere of action. And that, theoretically, excludes Ceuta and Melilla, although certain experts and recent positions within NATO do point to the military coverage of this territory.
On a social level, the most outstanding and interesting aspect for the traveler is its multicultural atmosphere , since Spaniards and foreigners of different faiths, both Christians and Muslims and even Jews and Hindus, live together.
Ceuta, an enclave in a privileged position
Ceuta extends mainly over the Tingitana peninsula, as well as another portion of inland, totaling just over 18 km2. It has been Spanish since the end of the 16th century , when the territories of Portugal (including Ceuta) came under Spanish sovereignty, remaining so decades later by their own decision, when the rest of the formerly Portuguese territories separated from the Spanish.
Morocco’s claims to sovereignty and the strategic position of the enclave, in the Strait of Gibraltar, have led to the main historical constructions having a defensive-military character, such as the imposing Royal Walls . It also has an interesting modernist heritage religious temples such as the Parish of Santa María de África leisure facilities such as the Mediterranean Maritime Park and an iconic green space: the Mount Hacho According to tradition, it is one of the famous Pillars of Hercules, which the Greco-Roman hero placed here to delimit the known world.
Melilla, an ‘old’ but modern city
Melilla, like Ceuta, has a surprising historical and artistic heritage. But in this case, its link with Spain dates back to 1497 , when the troops of the Duke of Medina Sidonia took this enclave and incorporated it into the Crown of Castile, in a context of Castilian maritime expansion.
In its old town, called Melilla la Vieja , are concentrated its main military and monumental buildings, such as its fortified enclosures and the hospitals of the King and San Francisco . In addition, in its widening it is possible to admire interesting modernist buildings from the 20th century, such as the Antiguo Economato Militar (Old Military Commissary).
How to visit Ceuta and Melilla
If you want to visit these two Spanish cities in North Africa, you should be aware that you will need to complete additional bureaucratic formalities , as you are traveling to a third country. Therefore, you should check what requirements Spain requires from citizens of your country of origin and whether there are additional requirements at the border posts, as this border is subject to bilateral (or unilateral) decisions that may change over time. For example, for cross-border workers.
Therefore, if you want to visit Ceuta and/or Melilla, we recommend that you consult a specialized agency about this possibility. Chic Morocco, which is part of the Mandala Tours group of agencies with extensive experience on both sides of the border, will provide you with an agent who will advise you on the matter.
