(July 25, 2022) – Multi-GRAMMY Award winning duo for KING + COUNTRY announces its “ A Drummer Boy Christmas | The 2022 Tour Experience .” Brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone will be bringing their annual Christmas spectacle to audiences in arenas nationwide over 14 dates including a stop at T-Mobile Center on Saturday, Nov. 26, performing hits from their Top 10 A Drummer Boy Christmas album, as well as selections from their recently released Billboard Top 200 record What Are We Waiting For?

Fans will have the chance to see the duo perform their No. 1 charting, world renowned version of the holiday classic “Little Drummer Boy” as seen on ABC’s CMA Country Christmas, as well as their #1 hit single “For God Is With Us,” and many more.

During the 2021 holiday season, for KING + COUNTRY re-entered the mainstream chart with its celebrated rendition of “Little Drummer Boy” hitting No. 13 on Mediabase’s Holiday chart, and No. 21 on the AC chart.  The track also hit No. 14 on Billboard’s AC chart. Likewise, in the tradition of the duo’s once a year holiday circuit, their 2021 Christmas tour repeated history and opened to sold-old arenas across the nation. 

The 2022 tour will kick off on Nov.26 in Kansas City, MO and will visit major markets such as Dallas, TX; Baltimore, MD; and Indianapolis, IN before wrapping up with a world-wide livestream concert event at Nashville’s iconic Grand Ole Opry House.

It’s been an eventful decade since For King & Country released its debut album.

The Australian-born, Nashville-based brother duo has released four more albums, won four Grammy Awards and 13 GMA Dove Awards -- three of the latter from its latest release, “What Are We Waiting For?,” which came out in March. All of its albums and EPs have debuted in the Top 5 of Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart, with two certified gold. The group has also had some crossover success with singles such as “Fix My Eyes,” “Joy,” “God Only Knows” (a collaboration with Dolly Parton), “Together” and “Relate.”

Joel and Luke Smallbone are now in the midst of their annual Christmas tour, featuring songs from 2021′s “A Drummer Boy Christmas” album. And they’re in the midst of making a feature film, “Unsung Hero,” based on the story of their parent’s decision to move the family to the U.S. when the brothers were young and the arduous task of making life on these shores.

King & Country performs at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.

What can we expect from the holiday show compared to what you might do at other points of the year?

Luke Smallbone: I like to phrase it like this; we’ll play all the songs that are Christmas songs and then the songs we’re known for that people would riot if we didn’t play, the songs that connect with our fans the most. It’s mostly Christmas, I’d say 70-30 (percent) tilting towards Christmas, ‘cause it is a Christmas show. I think Christmas shows have replaced the church pageant or the pageant you went to see at your local theater. You want it to be a family experience, You want it to be a memory, like that picture or that Christmas card people get every year. But we’ll play the songs you’ll want us to play that aren’t Christmas songs, too.

It’s been a busy year between a new studio album, making the movie, touring. Kicking back doesn’t seem to be in your DNA.

Smallbone: (laughs) Y’know, it’s always one of those things where you never want to be too busy to where you take for granted the gift of being able to work in the creative arts, but at the same time you work in the creative arts so you can’t help but have ideas and want to see them come to fruition. That’s how Joel and I are. So you’re always toying with ideas and always thinking of different things. And, yeah, between the film and the album and doing shows, it’s a lot. But thankful in the chaos there is still some semblance of organization so you can give everything the focus it requires.

Does one project serve as a kind of palette cleanser, in a way? Does doing a film give you a chance to take a breather from music and come back to that refreshed?

Smallbone: I would say they probably do, yeah. But they’re related. Music is difficult to make, and I think everybody recognizes it’s not the easiest thing to one day come up with songs. And every film has a soundtrack. Every film has music as well, so they’re like sisters and brothers -- maybe they’re cousins now, kind of related but very different kinds of projects.

You’ve had some time to live with the “What Are We Waiting For?” album. Were you pleased with how it was received -- No. 1 on the Christian charts and the Dove Awards?

Smallbone: I think you take those as a little bit of an encouragement. You don’t do it for that -- I mean, I grew up singing in the shower, singing songs as I was mowing the lawn. To be able to be someone doing this as a living is a gift. You want it to resonate with people, but the foundational thought of why I do what I do isn’t’ based on, “Well, if I just accomplish this I can be satisfied.” I’ve often said an award is like a little hug, a little encouragement. But it’s not why we do it.

What inspired the songs on this album?

Smallbone: I think all of us learned a lot through the pandemic. I don’t think anybody wants to hear songs about the pandemic, but I do think people want to hear songs about things they learned going through it. I think for a lot of my friends and for myself in particular, probably more personal growth and personal reflection took place in that two years than ever before. And a lot of these songs came from the idea that in that time to (reflect), people realized they had a lot of dormant dreams and dormant thoughts they realized they wanted to live out. So the question “What are we waiting for?” is intentional. It leads to bigger questions -- the meaning of life, what is my purpose, what am I doing? When you ask those questions it’s different for everybody, but it demands an answer nonetheless.

Can you see those ideas connect with an audience?

Smallbone: A thousand percent, yes. I’ve often said if you can write a song that comforts your own self there’s a great chance a million other people are going through the same thing as you and there’s a good chance they resonate with it. Then when we go to shows and we see people screaming the songs at the top of their lungs it makes you as an artist feel like you were right, that other people do go through these things and have had similar experiences. It’s encouraging.

Tell us about the “Unsung Hero” movie.

Smallbone: We’re thick into filming it up in Louisville, Ky., maybe about two-thirds of the way through. It’s about our parent’s migration from Australia. My dad was a concert promoter there and had a tour that didn’t go well and we lost everything we had -- the house, the car. He got a job offer in Nashville so he thought it would be a good idea to bring his six kids and wife who was six months pregnant, but he lost that job so here we were stranded on the other side of the world, no friends, sleeping on beds of clothes, not sure where our next meal would come from. The local community rallied around us, and that changed our lives. Our older sister Rebecca St. James ended up getting a record deal, and the rest is history. The film is based on that journey. Hopefully, we’ll release it next September.

Is it a different experience than “Priceless,” the film you made a few years ago?

Smallbone: One of the things we said back then is if you’re crazy enough to make a film once you need to do it again. (laughs) You learn so much, so the second go-’round is a little easier -- but not easy, ‘cause any creative project is hard. But we do know more now and we’ve got some brilliant actors like Terry O’Quinn from “Lost” and a bunch of kids who play us when we were younger. We’re excited to see how it turns out. We’ll probably have two songs on it that are For King & Country songs. My brother is actually acting in the film and co-directing as well, so we’ve definitely got our teeth sunk deep in the process.

You’re not in it?

Smallbone: One must know their limitations. (laughs) When it comes to memorizing lines and being somebody I’m not, that’s something Luke’s good at, not me. I’m one of the executive producers on the project. I’ve been telling our story in concert for years and people have said, “Man, that’s a crazy story. You should make that into a book~!” and, well, the modern-day book is a movie, so I worked on getting it made.

You won a Grammy for “God Only Knows,” your Dolly Parton collaboration. Did you send her a fruit basket or flowers for her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction?

Smallbone: We are so happy for her in anything that happens. She’s one of the nicest people ever, personable and sweet and kind. I remember we did a music video and my wife and kiddos came to the set. I introduced them to Dolly and she was, “Hey, would it be OK if I get a picture with you?” That’s just an example of her kindness. I think it’s important that when you shoot for the moon a little bit and work with these artists you actually learn from them, and we did with Dolly, she’s a giver. She wants her life to count for something, and the fact she was willing to lend her voice to a project of ours was a pretty mountaintop experience.

What Is for KING & COUNTRY’s Next Tour?

In a statement announcing the tour, brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone shared: “Yes, we might very well be in the heat of summer – but the holidays will be here before we know it… Our most elaborate, meaningful, joy-filled, and of course, rhythmic tour of the year all while celebrating the greatest news the world has ever known!”

The trek begins in Kansas City, Missouri on November 26th, followed by Dallas on November 27th. The duo then heads northeast to Lowell, Massachusetts, Baltimore, and Hershey, Pennsylvania to open December. They play Cleveland on December 4th, then fly south for three shows in Florida: Fort Myers on December 8th, Tampa on December 9th, and Orlando on December 10th.

After a stop in Greensboro, North Carolina, for KING & COUNTRY take their Christmas spirit west again to Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, Indiana, followed by Grand Rapids, Michigan. Just a week shy of Christmas, the band closes out the tour in their hometown of Nashville on December 18th.

Where should I be on Christmas Eve on 24th and suggest me some good place to be on 25th December as well..!

I want good & local Christmas experience to take home because this Christmas I’ll remember my entire life 😊😊😊

There are no celebrations of Christmas in December, as Russian church uses old Julian calendar, and Christmas falls on Jan.7th. There will be celebrational meals at (mostly hotel) restaurants, adn all streets will be decorated.

My lucky birthday is on the 23rd December, and I'm obsessed with snowy and cold destinations.

I was planning to go to Moscow this year because I always planned my lucky birthday to go to a new country and also somewhere where snow is guaranteed.

But I'm also A HUGE Christmas lover!

I know the Russians celebrate their Christmas in January, but if I go to Moscow during those dates, will I still find Christmas markets and decorations? Or will it be empty without any Christmas feeling? Thanks!

The main winter holiday in Russia is New Year, so here is more "New Year spirit" than "Christmas spirit". But yes, you can feel it 18-24 December.

Oh yeah! The atmosphere of the approaching holiday will be compulsory!
