Kanye West THE YEEZUS TOUR with Kendrick Lamar

kanye 2013 tour

The November 7 and 9 Kanye West shows at the United Center have been postponed. The shows have been rescheduled to occur on December 17 and 18.

Fans should hold onto their tickets, as tickets for the November 7 show will be honored on December 17, and tickets for the November 9 show will be honored on December 18.

Refunds are available within the next 7 days at the original point of purchase.

THE YEEZUS TOUR is Kanye West's first major itinerary since his WATCH THE THRONE tour with JAY Z in 2011 - the highest grossing tour in hip-hop history - and his first solo tour since 2008's critically acclaimed GLOW IN THE DARK tour. Recently, the Washington Post hailed West as "a visionary who's managed to tweak the serial rhythms that dictate so much of our pop culture diet. He doesn't do cliffhangers. He jumps off...We gasp, gawk and wonder, 'Where will he land?'"

West's recent effort YEEZUS has been hailed by critics as the album of the year; The New York Times raved "the album is one long, efficient, inventive kick in the head," while the Daily News agreed that YEEZUS was "punk in attitude, genius in execution." Rolling Stone argued the album was "a brilliant, obsessive-compulsive career auto-correct...This isn't just a way to stay ahead of the competition; it's a way to stay ahead of himself." The New Yorker echoed the sentiment, proclaiming YEEZUS as "technically breathtaking...Twenty years from now, West's previous records will remain important, but a new generation may first gravitate to the lean vibrancy of this one." USA Today weighed in with "...a polarizing, multi-layered body of work that probably will be debated all summer. Who does that besides Kanye West?" Entertainment Weekly summed things up with "Kanye West has gone rogue again. Did you expect anything less? The job of an innovator, of course, is to keep innovating...he pushes the envelope aesthetically."

Kanye again pushed the envelope at the 30th anniversary 2013 MTV VMAs, with his visually stunning, silhouetted performance of "Blood On The Leaves," from YEEZUS.  The performance made VMA history, marking Kanye's seventh showcase at the awards spectacular, tying him with Madonna as the two artists with the most number of VMA performances.  Kanye West has delivered some of the most visually stunning and memorable - and controversial - performances in the annals of the MTV VMAs.

West now readies his powerful, innovative live performance for his first major solo tour in 5 years.

Kanye West announces 2013 Yeezus tour, featuring Kendrick Lamar

Kanye West announces 2013 Yeezus tour, featuring Kendrick Lamar

Yeezus is hitting the road. In support of his latest opus ,  Kanye West will embark on his first solo outing in five years this fall, and he’s bringing along Kendrick Lamar for the ride.

The tour kicks off October 19th in Seattle and stretches through early December. The itinerary includes a stop in Kanye’s hometown of Chicago, two dates in New York City (one at MSG, another at Baryclays), and even a pair of shows in Florida. Check out the full docket below.

Tickets for a majority of the dates go on sale Friday, September 13th. Visit Kanye’s website for more info.

News of Kanye’s tour is a bit surprising given the recent birth of his child with Kim Kardashian, and the fact that he didn’t tour behind his last solo album, 2010’s  My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy .  At the time, he  claimed  corporate sponsors viewed him as too radioactive to fund a tour.

In 2011, Kanye did tour with Jay Z behind their joint album, Watch the Throne , but this marks Kanye’s first solo jaunt since his Glow in the Dark tour in 2008. He and Lady Gaga were to embark on the Fame Kills tour in 2009, however, it was canceled after Kanye took a hiatus in the wake of the debacle at the VMAs. Since then his live performances have come in the form of one-off dates and festival appearances .

Kanye West Announces 2013 Yeezus Tour

kanye 2013 tour

Fans who’ve hoped to see Kanye West kick off a national tour this year can breath a sigh of relief today. West announced this morning that he will embark on a 23-date tour in support of his latest album, Yeezus , reports E! News . This will be West’s first solo tour since 2008’s Glow in the Dark string of dates. In 2011, he and Jay-Z hit the road to promote their joint album, Watch the Throne . The Yeezus Tour is scheduled to kick off on October 19th in Seattle with rising star Kendrick Lamar opening most of the dates. An unnamed special guest will open a handful of shows across the nation. Although few details about the show are known, according to a press release it promises to have “state-of-the-art staging, production, and lighting design with [Kanye’s] unmatched aesthetic, visionary creative mind, and an increasingly impressive catalogue…” For most of the dates, tickets go on sale on September 13th. Although it’s unclear if West’s girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, and baby North are set to join him, there are reports the proud parents have been planning this for months.

The 11 Most Memorable Kanye Moments of 2013

By Billy Johnson, Jr.

Billy Johnson, Jr.

Love or hate Kanye West, the guy deserves some credit for knowing how to keep himself in the news. 2013 was no different.

Below, we list some of the year’s most unforgettable moments that include everything from rants to a birth and an incredible, long-anticipated humbling intervention staged at New York’s Power 105.1:

1. Feb. 23 — Disses Justin Timberlake

Even though Kanye West loves his fashion, he was not a fan of Justin Timberlake’s couture-theme comeback single. During a concert at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, Kanye unleashed his fury on the former ‘N Sync singer, saying, “And I got love for Hov but I ain’t f–king with that ‘Suit & Tie.'” By the end of the night, Mr. West screamed into the mike and threw it onto the ground. When J.T. played “Saturday Night Live” the following month, he shrugged off ‘Ye’s diss , singing, “My hit’s so sick, got rappers acting dramatic.”

2. May 17 — Finds New Video Outlets for “New Slaves”

It’s quite possible that Kanye asked himself What would Jesus do? when determining how he would premiere the video for “New Slaves,” the first single from “Yeezus.” Instead of securing a rollout with a major video platform like Vevo, MTV, or BET, Yeezus took his music directly to his followers. And what was his unorthodox strategy? On a Friday night, he projected the video onto the sides of buildings in 66 locations, including the Chanel Boutique on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Northwestern University in Chicago, and Bondi Junction in Sydney, among others.

3. June 15 — Lands New Job: Baby Daddy

Kanye and Kim Kardashian welcomed their precious baby girl, North , in Los Angeles. Kanye announced Kim’s pregnancy on Dec. 30, 2012, during a concert in Atlantic City, boasting, “Stop the music and make some noise for my baby mama.”

5. Sept. 9 — Finally Reacts to Ray J’s “I Hit it First”

Ray J, the co-star of the Kim Kardashian’s 2007 sex tape, is likely the person who irritated Kanye the most this year. In April, the R&B singer, who is also the younger brother of pop star Brandy, released the song “ I Hit it First .” Though Ray J denied the song was about Kim, the single artwork included a pixelated image of the reality star and the video featured a lookalike. In September, five months later, Kanye fired back . During a performance on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” Kanye dissed Ray J by changing lyrics in his song “Bound 2.” The Yeezus rapper said, “Brandy’s little sister lame and he know it now.”

6. Sept. 27 — Defends the Leather Jogging Pants

Weeks later, Kanye found himself in a feud with late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who made fun of an interview the rapper gave to the BBC. To emphasize the ridiculousness of Kanye’s rant about his idea for leather jogging pants, Kimmel had children re-enact an excerpt of the interview. In a series of obscene tweets , Kanye said that Kimmel was out of line. Kimmel said Kanye called him and demanded an apology. During an Oct. 10 appearance on Kimmel, the two squashed their beef .

7. Oct. 19 — Reveals the Ultimate Face-Off

Though Kanye has been wearing various masks during his stage shows for years, he took the fashion trend more seriously during his Yeezus tour. His four face coverings are from Parisian fashion house Martin Margiela. The styles range from bejeweled to reflective to rectangular beads. While some, including this writer, consider the pieces creepy, ‘Ye describes them as “freshness.”

10. Nov. 26 — Gets Reprimanded During Radio Interview

I would personally like to thank whoever convinced Kanye to commit to doing this no-holds-barred interview with Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club” just a few days before Thanksgiving. Morning show co-host Charlamagne the God ripped Kanye to shreds, calling him out on all of his nonsense — terrible “Bound 2” video, out of control ego, and handlers who clearly don’t know how to tell him, “No.”

11. Nov. 26 — Screams at MTV’s Sway

Though Kanye managed to maintain his composure during his interrogation on “The Breakfast Club,” he had very little patience when he sat down with Sway for an interview on “Sways Universe.” When his old friend asked him why he didn’t use his own resources to fuel his fashion pursuits, Kanye lost it, screaming , “You ain’t got the answers, Sway,” prompting the normally calm veteran radio personality to lose his cool. The following week, Sway responded by selling tees with the tag “ I Got The Answers .”

Kanye West is a complete visionary who has shifted the course of pop culture time and time again, first as a producer and then as a rapper and fashion mogul.

Kanye was born in a middle class household in Chicago and was a creative from an early age, often writing poetry and becoming part of the city’s hip hop scene at a young age. He briefly attended college but dropped out when it became detrimental to the creation of his music.

He began producing beats for local artists, developing a signature style that utilized sped-up soul samples and before long he received his first big break when he became an in-house producer for Roc A Fella Records and was responsible for the now classic Jay Z Album ‘The Blueprint’.

Despite his production success, Kanye had maintained a desire to make it as a rapper but due to his unconventional style and background had struggled to secure a deal. Dame Dash reluctantly signed Kanye to Roc A Fella however Kanye was involved in a car accident which he was lucky to survive. With his jaw still wired shut, Kanye channeled his emotions into ‘through The Wire’, a single which would appear on his debut album ‘The College Dropout’ in 2004. The album is considered one of the most important Hip Hop debuts and had a lasting effect on the genre.

With each subsequent album Kanye changed up his sound and broken new ground. On 2008’s ‘808 and Hearrtbreaks’ for example, he embraced auto-tune singing and, although many were unsure at the time, it influenced the future sound of Hip Hop and Rnb (laying the framework for the likes of Drake to become huge stars). In 2013 he stunned fans again with the jarring ‘Yeezus’, which, with its industrial minimalism, shocked the genre to its core and won praise from critics in the process.

Live reviews

I gotta give it to Yeezus. He's still got the juice and for him to pack the 'Bowl' while performing a seven year old album is a testament to that fact. Show started an hour late and I had the feeling there would be some tech glitches, but you definitely couldn't hate on the effort. There was a small orchestra section stage right and on stage left what appeared to be a few DJ's and dudes on drum machines. The center of the stage featured 3 grand white staircases that were reconfigured between songs. There were fireworks at times which didn't quite fit the tone of the album, but who doesn't like fireworks. It was a party atmosphere and I felt a real connection with other fans simply based on the fact that WE LOVE THIS FUCKING ALBUM. We sang, we yelled, we danced, we laughed, and we reminisced about a Kanye that took us back to bring us forward.

Most memorable moments:

Staircases rotate to reveal 60 or so black men in rags and covered in dust. Very striking visual that reminded me of a slave ship. He used what I'll call "human props" throughout the show, but I felt like this moment resonated most.

Jeezy came out for Amazing, but the tech was ALL CHEWED UP. Sound was cutting in and out, poor lighting, pianist was even confused at one point.

At one point Kanye states that this performance is actually more of a dress rehearsal. I figured as much and even debated going to the Saturday show, but there was something about the rawness of an opening night that I wanted to be part of. I'm sure Saturday's show will be way more on point.

I have never been a person who could pinpoint a moment in which divine providence had played some role in my life. That is, until I saw Kanye.

Watching Kanye West perform is a wholly religious experience. Someone you don't know and can barely see is instructing you to complete strange actions which seem nonsensical, like throwing your hands in there or singing lyrics or pointing your middle finger to the sky. Yet, you follow along. You are surrounded by thousands of people who share similar beliefs and interests as you. Everything is ridiculous expensive and you must pay your way in.

Kanye comes out pretty much an hour late, just because he can. When he finally emerges, it is on a platform suspended in the air. The platform rocks to and fro during the concert, bouncing right above the general admissions mosh pit. It is those in the mosh pit who are the most blessed. They seem positively energized by Kanye, dancing and thrashing for two hours straight.

When Kanye finishes his act, he performs "Ultralight Beam". Towards the end of the show, his platform lowers and he steps down onto the ground, showing us that the man we had seemingly worshiped with our screams and our expressions of adulation walks on the same ground we do. And maybe it was the weed smoke, or maybe the sheer excitement, but as I was swaying to the music, I felt a connection to a higher power, something greater than myself. It was a moment of absolute perfection where I didn't feel alone and hopeless in the world.

Whether his messianic stature is bona fide or self-professed, one thing’s still for certain: an evening with Kanye West will blow your freaking mind.

Love him or loathe him, there are number of things we say about ‘Ye for certain. The guy boasts a repertoire of hits hotter than Seth Rogen’s motorcycle seat. This is a guy with the talent to dethrone his mentor, with the vision to produce the totally unexpected, and with the ego to say and do exactly what he wants. All in all, those ingredients synthesise to produce the greatest live music experience on offer in the modern age. Hands down.

However it’s what we can’t say for certain about West that polarises crowds the world over. The rants, the fights, the Jesus lookalikes; to some extent, it’s no great surprise that the rapper has found himself at loggerheads with audiences on multiple occasions.

But if that’s the price we have to pay to accept this visionary into our lives, then show me where to sign. When Kanye delivers, he arrives first class. “One of the greatest hip-hop sets of all time”, so said the Hollywood Reporter of Coachella 2011. “I am so credible and so influential and so relevant that I will change things”, so said Kanye of himself. Hear, hear, Mr. West.

The sounds of hydraulic machinery filled Oracle Arena, as the stench of dirt weed mingled with the faux fog that had been pumping into the air over the past two hours. The opening samples of “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” were slowed down and turned elastic, thus leaving alien chemtrails of sound in the wake of the shadowy figure tethered to the hovering spacecraft. With heads upturned in anticipation of first contact, the crowd was lost in darkness. Chants of “Kan-ye! Kan-ye!” filled every empty space, until the object of their affection shone his light down on the chosen few.

The party-sized hoverboard had traversed the entire length of the arena (from a height of about 10 feet above the tallest head), before blasting spotlights on those below; instantly creating the largest circle pit a hip-hop tour has ever seen.

“Just wanna feel liberated, I, I, I…”

Kanye West had arrived in Oakland, and while many outside the venue failed to understand the appeal, those who had been waiting patiently (well past start time) were losing their collective mind.

Kanye was a lot more humble than I expected. I've always loved a lot of the lyrics of his songs as they speak about real stuff that's going on, like the media covering up on what's actually important and people higher up trying to make everyone conform. His concert was better than I thought it would be. He was entertaining, interactive with the crowd, tried to get the people on the floor to start a mosh pit (haha) and he talked about some shit in the media against him that wasn't true. The massive screen thing he had happening put an interesting twist to seeing Kanye as it was done in like negative colouring and you could only half see him a lot of the time, which was a bit frustrating but also added to the drama of him. I LOVED the freaky masks he wore half the time, very Kanye- all that bling. He played a good mix of his music from a bunch of new stuff right back to the older stuff. Almost the whole seated crowd were standing the whole time (something I've NEVER seen at a concert) I have a newfound respect for Kanye West and am really happy I finally got to see him. I'd definitely go back

it was fucking horrible as shit like really kanye?

i, as well as everyone else who came to see your show in sacramento, were so hyped. it was literally going to be the highlight of my thanksgiving break. i bought your tickets for $70 as well as a shirt for $20, only for you to show up AN HOUR AND A HALF LATE, perform three songs that you didn't even finish, and to listen to your inaccurate rant about politics. honestly man, i respected you so much as an artist; you were and still are a musical genius and i will forever support your music career, but i lost all respect for you as a person yesterday. you disrespected your fans last night, who have been nothing but loyal to you throughout your career. that was a real shitty move, and to be honest with you man, i feel sorry for you. the money so up in your mind that you don't know who you are anymore.

we miss the old kanye

The Saint Pablo Tour was by far the dopest energy in one place that I have felt at a venue the size of Verizon Center. The stage was suspended in air and the attendees with floor seats were actually a mosh pit! They stood the entire time fueling the energy as he floated above their heads and out stretched arms. Everyone in the building stood the entire concert. Everyone. Though the lights were dim and the big screen had an hallucination type effect, the lyrics and his movement came thru with Kanye precision. I had the time of my life at this concert. The cherry on the top was that I was invited as a surprise from my love. The hands down best surprise I've ever received!! I love the old Kanye. I love the new Kanye. I love Kanye. Period.

Best of 2013: from one direction to kanye west, why grandiose tours ruled.

Looking back on a year when pop, rock and hip-hop acts turned to ultra-expensive stage production to redefine themselves and connect with fans.

Best of 2013: From One Direction Kanye West, Why Grandiose Tours Ruled

One Direction Stage Still - H 2013

Year-end lists — most of which have already emerged — generally calculate the best in recorded music, celebrating the albums and songs critics deem most innovative and most skillful. But in many ways, it’s the live performances of these recordings that tell us the most about both the artists making them and the fans consuming them. A One Direction show reveals far more about the community of people invested in the British boy band and their present cultural impact than one of their albums, because a live performance is entirely contingent on the relationship between the artist and those who adore them.

VIDEO: Best of 2013: Top 10 Music Collaborations

The past 12 months were defined by grandiose tours, those featuring expensive production, extensive tour dates and artists looking to define themselves visually as well as musically. Everyone from Taylor Swift to Rihanna to Kanye West to Nine Inch Nails invested in the aesthetic marriage of visual production and expressive music, their choices guided by the premise that experiencing something on multiple sensory levels can truly augment a song. For West, whose Yeezus Tour was one of the year’s biggest and most involved, the stage production took on a theatrical quality, employing a massive set and multiple backup dancers to create a mood that suited the artist’s dark, angry album. West donned masks for almost the entire set each night, revealing himself only late in the show when a Jesus figure literally unmasked him.

Drake represented the alternative side of hip-hop, presenting himself on a modernly stark stage in equal sized venues (both artists headlined the Staples Center in L.A. this year). For Drake, the performance was about his connection with the audience, something he spent a large portion of each show actively cultivating. It’s an aesthetic that resonates with his emotionally driven, deeply personal music. Jay Z, who toured both individually and on a co-headlining summer run with Justin Timberlake , cultivated a similar tone onstage, allowing the music and its relationship with the fans to be the primary motivator of his production and self-presentation.

The pop stars focused on glamorized, exciting ways to bolster their radio singles, with Rihanna relying on sex and drugs to sell her music onstage and Lady Gaga resorting to bizarre theatrics. Artists like Selena Gomez and Swift kept things simpler, perhaps because fans feel more in tune with them on a personal level, whether that connection is manufactured or not. Where Gaga faltered, caught up in an overwrought onstage narrative and too many self-important speeches, the more personable pop stars prevailed, most notably Swift, Beyonce , Ellie Goulding and Paramore.

LIST: Best of 2013: Top 10 Movie-Music Moments

The most fascinating of all tours this year was One Direction’s run, which held court at the Staples Center for numerous nights in 2013 (the band will return to L.A. next year). For someone who is largely not a fan of the music, the performance was more about the fans than it was the band’s songs. Talking to the teenage girls in attendance offered a sincere understanding of the band, who are worshipped in a way exclusive to them. One Direction fans, as it turns out, are rarely fans of other musicians; they are fans of One Direction — and anyone who tours with 1D — alone. The band members, adorable in their feigned innocence, embrace this adoration onstage, delivering a solid performance every night.

Both if the hip-hop and pop tours focused heavily on production, choreography and ensuring that the fans felt their connection, real or staged, the best rock shows of the year were about genuine rawness. Nine Inch Nails celebrated the release of their latest album with a concert at the Troubadour, eschewing traditional production and light shows for an almost punk rock vibe that involved only Trent Reznor , his band and the extreme pummel of the music itself. The band’s subsequent arena tour, which hit Staples Center in November, involved a light show second only to the one Muse hauled around earlier in the year, removing the band from the audience with a transparent curtain of lights.

Queens of the Stone were perhaps the best live rock band of 2013, perpetually extending their tour in support of new album …Like Clockwork due to popular demand. But it was it was Paul McCartney who was hailed as one of the best performers of the year, largely thanks to his set at Bonnaroo in June, a performance that embodied the vigor of a much younger musician, circumnavigating his entire musical career.

If, at the end of a year, you find that you’ve experienced nearly every major tour of the past 12 months and attending almost every notable performance and festival, it seems like an opportunity to take stock, to determine what connects those live experiences in an overarching way. In 2013, that connector seems to be artists searching for ways to truly connect with their fans onstage. While that may seem reductive and hardly revelatory, there is a sense that musicians must embrace every possible way of audience relation, from social media to revealing interviews to 3D movies and biographical TV specials, to keep from falling out of the zeitgeist and losing coveted album sales. So it makes sense for Drake and Lady Gaga and One Direction to plot their set lists around planned moments of recurring fan engagement in a way they might not have in years past.

PHOTOS: Best of 2013: The Year in Concert Pictures

Kanye West, critically, had one of the most impressive and interesting releases of 2013, however, his tour felt notably overwrought. The music sounded good, sure, and it’s always entertaining to see what West will do next, but having the album of the year doesn’t mean the tour in support will be the comparable best.

My favorite live moments of the year aren’t necessarily represented on the critical year-end lists: Baroness’ aggressively heavy set at Bonnaroo during an oddly appropriate thunderstorm, Fall Out Boy’s unabashed enthusiasm during their performance at the Roxy just after reuniting, Phoenix’s standout set during the two-day iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas and Explosions In the Sky opening for NIN at Staples Center. In all these moments, I felt connected to the musicians onstage and the music they played, each for various reasons and in various ways. The best live performances are those that allow you to transcend the moment itself, whether by the merit of impressive pop production, a sincere delivery of the music, or some combination of the two. A live show lets you experience the music in its most expressive, genuine form alongside others in equal rapture. In this way, it’s no wonder that the most instructive tour on fan unity in 2013 was that of One Direction.

Kanye West points to the audience from the stage.

Against all odds, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign have extended their 2024 tour.

The controversial pair booked additional ‘Vultures 1 Listening Experience’ arena concerts all over the U.S. from April 7-14 in support of their recently released album.

Stops on the brief run include Nashville (April 7), Pittsburgh (April 9), Washington, D.C. (April 11), Charlotte (April 12) and Tampa (April 14.)

According to a press release, fans can expect to be treated to the duo’s controversial, chart-topping “Vultures” album “in a high-fidelity audio and visual showcase, crafted by Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign.”

Fans should be aware that West has delivered offensive lyrics at recent shows.

While wearing a Jason Voorhees mask onstage, West rapped “And I’m still crazy, bipolar, anti-Semite. And I’m still the king,” which led to the event’s livestream being cut off.

For fans that want to catch the listening party live, tickets are available for all five gigs as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Tuesday, April 2, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

About “Vultures, Volume 1”

West and Dolla Sign’s 16-track debut collaboration is classic Kanye; lush arrangement along with juvenile lyrics.

The album’s lead track, which features a gorgeous orchestral beat is undercut by off-putting lines like “Keep a few Jews on the staff now/ I cash out.”

You can listen to the sonically adventurous yet lyrically immature “Vultures”  here .

Kanye West controversy

Over the past few years years, the 46-year-old Chicago native has generated quite a bit of ire.

His most notable recent dustup took place in late 2022 when he made a number of anti-Semitic statements which led to many companies he partnered with — including Gap, Adidas, and Balenciega — dropping him from their labels.

West has since apologized for his unfortunate comments on Instagram, although that post is no longer available to view on his account at the time of publication.

Following his statement, he made a number of anti-Semitic remarks at his inaugural ‘Vultures Listening Party’ concert in Chicago, according to the  New York Post .

Kanye West ignored Diddy after a concert and refused to meet with him in Los Angeles

Their feud dates back to 2022.

Diddy reportedly sought a face-to-face conversation with Kanye West at a recent L.A. concert, but Ye allegedly showed little interest in engaging. Diddy , accompanied by his entourage, attended Rolling Loud in Los Angeles with the intention of personally greeting Kanye backstage.

However, according to TMZ, Kanye seemed uninterested or indifferent to the proposed meeting. Despite Diddy 's apparent support for Kanye at the festival, bringing his children to watch the performance, their history of discord adds intrigue to the situation.

The tension dates back to 2022 when Kanye accused Diddy of making threats on behalf of unspecified Jewish individuals. This animosity intensified when Diddy criticized Kanye for selling controversial "White Lives Matter" merchandise.

Facing sex trafficking allegations

The apparent snub from Kanye comes amid a turbulent period for Diddy , with federal agents recently raiding his homes in Los Angeles and Miami in connection to sex trafficking allegations. Diddy spoke with authorities in Miami while one of his entourage members faced drug-related charges.

"Yesterday, there was a gross overuse of military-level force as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs ' residences," Diddy 's attorney Aaron Dyer said in a statement on Tuesday.

"There is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated.

"There has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations . Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name."

Diddy has denied any wrongdoing, labeling the raids as excessive and likening them to a "witch hunt." Despite their past clashes, Diddy 's gesture of attending Kanye 's concert hinted at a potential reconciliation, but Kanye 's apparent disinterest suggests unresolved tensions may still linger.

Kanye west avoided diddy meetup during rolling loud performance, kanye west avoided diddy meetup at rl ... no interest in chatting.

Diddy wanted a word with Kanye West at an L.A. concert this month, but Ye ended up ducking the convo -- which is interesting, considering what's gone down in the Bad Boy mogul's world since then.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ ... Diddy was hanging out backstage at Rolling Loud in Los Angeles a couple weeks ago ... he and his entourage had rolled up to watch Ye's performance, and he told people close to Ye he wanted a face-to-face to say what's up, personally.

However, we're told Kanye had no interest in the proposed meeting when it was brought to his attention -- or at the very least, we're told he wasn't champing at the bit to meet up.

In any case ... our sources tell us the meet and greet Diddy wanted with Ye didn't go down.

As we reported ... Diddy appeared supportive of Kanye at the festival, and even brought his kids to the show to watch. A picture of Diddy with a man -- who appeared to be his son, Justin -- at the side of the main stage circulated widely online.

It's interesting ... the two had beef dating back to 2022, when Kanye very publicly accused Puff of threatening him on behalf of unnamed Jewish people -- and all that came after Diddy called out Ye for selling "White Lives Matter" shirts .

That's why Diddy showing up for Ye was fascinating ... on its face, it would seem they'd put their differences aside -- or, at least Diddy had -- but based on Ye's non-interest, maybe he isn't ready to forgive and forget.

Also, in the heat of their feud, Ye posted one of their text exchanges, where he flat-out accused Diddy of being a "fed."

Cut to 18 months later, and the feds are all over Diddy -- as we reported, Dept. of Homeland Security agents raided his homes Monday in L.A. and Miami, seeking evidence to support allegations he engaged in sex trafficking.

Diddy spoke with agents himself Monday, on a Miami airport tarmac, as a member of his entourage was arrested on drug charges -- and, a short time later, he was seen pacing around outside the airport.

Diddy's denied all wrongdoing thus far, and his attorney called the raids a gross show of excessive force, as well as a "witch hunt."

We obtained footage showing the inside of his L.A. home -- after the feds' search -- and it was torn to shreds, with the place turned upside down.

Hard to tell exactly how Kanye's feeling about Diddy these days, but it sure seems icy.

The Morning

Interest rates and the election.

The Fed is expected to cut rates soon. Doing so could pull it into a partisan fight.

A view of screens on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.

By Jeanna Smialek

A reporter covering the Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve is in a tough spot. It expects to cut interest rates soon. But doing so before an election will yank the apolitical central bank directly into a partisan fight.

Fed officials have lifted borrowing costs to 5.3 percent, the highest level in decades, to slow inflation. Now that price increases are fading, Fed officials think that they can dial back that response starting later this year. Investors expect the first move to come in June or July — just as the election kicks into high gear.

Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, says rate cuts this year would probably be an effort to help Democrats . Lower rates can lift markets and help the economy, so politicians tend to prefer cheap money when they are in office.

Fed officials insist that rate changes would respond to economic conditions, not politics. Still, they can’t ignore the vitriol. If they ramp up during the campaign, Trump’s attacks could convince his supporters that the Fed is bending to partisan whims. And in the long run, a loss of popular support could expose the central bank, which answers to Congress, to lawmaker censure or even political tinkering.

Prized independence

The central bank sets policy without having to check its decisions through Congress or the White House.

That doesn’t mean that Fed officials are free to do whatever they want. Congress has given the Fed its goals — full employment and low, stable inflation — and it holds regular oversight hearings. The White House influences the central bank by nominating the Fed’s chair, vice chair, and other Washington-based governors.

But even if elected officials shape it, the Fed is insulated from immediate political backlash as it sets actual policy. That is because its big job — controlling inflation — can be very unpopular in Washington. Its efforts have been blamed for slowing the economy severely enough to harm or even doom both Jimmy Carter’s and George H.W. Bush’s re-election attempts. In fact, incumbent politicians used to frequently harangue Fed chairs for lower interest rates in public and in private. (Lyndon B. Johnson reportedly cornered his Fed chair against a wall at his Texas ranch.)

Such critiques stopped in the 1990s, when the Clinton administration started a tradition of not commenting on Fed policy.

Trump ended that tradition during his term in office, pushing loudly and constantly for lower interest rates to help goose the economy. He called Jerome Powell, his pick for Fed chair, an “ enemy .” He looked into firing Powell, only to learn that doing so was nearly impossible.

Now that Trump is back on the campaign trail, he’s much less welcoming to low rates, since presumably Biden would benefit from them. He says it would be political for the Fed to cut borrowing costs, and he has kept up his criticism of Powell, whom President Biden renominated.

“He’s going to do something to probably help the Democrats, I think, if he lowers interest rates,” Trump said this year .

Apolitical Fed

There’s little reason to think that rate cuts by the Fed would be a ploy to bolster Democrats.

“We’re working to serve all Americans, not any particular set of Americans or political parties or leaders,” Powell said during an event last week, one of several times he brought up or addressed the central bank’s independence.

Fed officials have been clear that they are setting policy in response to inflation data. The Fed’s favored inflation gauge has dropped to 2.5 percent from a peak of around 7 percent. Officials are now simply waiting for further confirmation that inflation is under control to make a move.

Not to mention, Fed policies take time to trickle through the economy, so it’s not clear how much a summertime rate cut would reshape the economy before November elections.

Finally, Fed officials have limited reason to cave to political pressure: They serve long terms, are difficult if not impossible to remove and don’t all come from a single political party. Transcripts and inside accounts confirm that in recent years, politics rarely come up at Fed meetings.

But even if the Fed sets policy without an eye toward politics, officials want to make sure America knows and believes that. The Fed relies on public belief to do its job. When people and companies think that the Fed is focused on fighting inflation, they expect inflation to hover at modest levels over the long run. That confidence helps to shape their behavior in ways that can help to keep inflation under control. Businesses don’t jack up prices as quickly, for instance.

“The Fed is, to me, a very important American institution that serves all Americans on a nonpolitical basis,” Powell said last week. “Integrity is everything.”

Related: An earlier Fed chair, Arthur Burns, is remembered as someone who bent to political pressure. Some say that’s not fair .
