EVANESCENCE Australian Tour
- May 24, 2023
Multiple Grammy wins and two decades on, the debut album Fallen from American rockers EVANESCENCE remains one of the most influential albums of the turn of the century. A critical and commercial triumph, fans can now witness highlights from the gothic beauty of the 2003 debut release and a career spanning set of fan favourites this year, with EVANESCENCE thrilled to announce their return to Australia this August and September celebrating 20 years of Fallen.
Starting life when EVANESCENCE vocalist Amy Lee and co-founder Ben Moody began writing and recording songs in the mid 90s, 2003’s Fallen would go on to score five nominations at the 2004 Grammy Awards, winning Best Hard Rock Performance and Best New Artist, with the album’s symphonic and delicate ballad My Immortal also scoring an additional nomination at the Grammy Awards the following year.
Hitting the top 10 charts in multiple countries upon its release, including Australia and a #1 in the UK, Fallen sold 10 million copies in the US alone, with over 17 million copies sold worldwide and officially reaching diamond certification in late 2022.
Fallen’s lush and gloomy beauty memorably blended symphonic elements with goth, rock, metal and hooks aplenty, while also garnering significant attention for lead singles Bring Me to Life, Going Under, My Immortal and Everybody’s Fool. And while the album has gone on to be included in the likes of Rolling Stone’s ‘The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time’ and praise lauded for Lee’s macabre tinge that set the band apart from their nu metal contemporaries at the time, Fallen also ultimately set the scene for a long-term legacy from the Arkansas-hailing group, who are now in command of five studio albums including 2021’s powerful and intimate outing The Bitter Truth which debuted at #3 on the ARIA chart, which marked the band’s highest debut in 15 years.
Following multiple worldwide tours, The Open Door followed Fallen ’s footsteps, going on to sell more than five million copies, before the self-titled Evanescence in 2011 debuted at #1 on the ARIA album chart and Billboard Chart. EVANESCENCE went down both very new and familiar paths for their fourth and most ambitious release to date, Synthesis, in 2017 alongside a worldwide Synthesis Live tour combining their intense live performances and timeless songwriting with a powerful live orchestra, before unveiling The Bitter Truth in 2021, hitting the top 10 of multiple international album charts and marking itself on multiple Best of 2021 release lists worldwide.
Renowned for their enamouring live show as much as they are for their haunting, potent and visceral material, this marks the band’s first Australian tour since their sublime run with local symphony orchestras in 2018 so get set to revisit the album that started it all and beyond when EVANESCENCE return to our shores to celebrate 20 years of Fallen.

[Review] Evanescence @ Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney 26/08/2023
Review By Raelee Atkinson
After a long wait outside Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park, the crowd finally made their way to their seats as the support band entered the stage. Melbourne all-female band, The Beautiful Monument put on an energetic and entertaining performance, which included their popular tracks, Give Up, Stay, Deceiver and Hellbound . The Beautiful Monument warmed up the winter-chilled audience and are clearly fans of and inspired by the main event - Evanescence .
After a short break to reset the stage, it’s 9pm, and the arena lights dim and Rage Against The Machine classic Killing in the Name played followed by The Bitter Truth opening track, Artifact / The Turn the stage lights came up and Evanescence took the stage to the excited roar of the crowd. Opening with Broken Pieces Shine , flowing into What You Want , then the opening track from Fallen, Going Under , and The Bitter Truth’s, Take Cover are played before the first medley for the evening. Lose Control / Part Of Me / and self-titled’s Never Go Back amalgamate into one song. Then it was time for The Open Door hit single (and my personal fave), Call Me When You’re Sober.
Amy Lee chatted to the audience between songs and introduced their “new” bass guitarist, from Sick Puppies, Australian, Emma Anzai saying this felt like a “hometown tour” with an Aussie now in the band. The crowd cheered loudly then they played The Bitter Truth single, Wasted On You with Emma singing background vocals, blending beautifully with Amy.
A grand piano was then wheeled onto the stage and Amy Lee sat and began to play Lithium , from The Open Door. The audience sang along loudly to this fan favourite. They followed with Far From Heaven, Better Without You both from The Bitter Truth, then as the band played Fallen’s Imaginary a video montage played on two large screens, commemorating 20 years of debut album, Fallen. Lee’s voice soared as she sang End Of The Dream from the self-titled album, then it was time for another medley - Haunted / My Last Breath / Cloud Nine / Everybody’s Fool / Weight Of The World / and rounded out with Whisper .
Lee stopped to introduce the next song telling the audience that no one can speak for us only we can speak for ourselves, and that we aren’t just one small voice, that we are stronger together, the speech received a rousing applause and segwayed into Use My Voice , and Blind Belief from The Bitter Truth. The grand piano is wheeled back onto the stage and as Lee played the opening notes from My Immortal , the audience, cheered, sighed, applauded loudly, and sang along, lighting the torches on their mobile phones. It was an incredible sight to see the large arena filled with what looked like thousands of fairy lights as Amy's lush voice filled the auditorium.
Saving the best till last, it was finally time to hear the song that started it all for Amy Lee and Evanescence , Bring Me To Life . As Lee begins singing the haunting, opening notes,
"How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core where I've become so numb…”
I could feel the excitement and anticipation from the audience. It's the one song we've all came to hear. Love it or loathe it, it's just not an Evanescence concert without it! Everyone came here to sing along to this classic song and when the chorus hits, I could hear people around me singing the male vocal part, originally performed by 12 Stones vocalist / rapper, Paul McCoy.
During the song, Lee encourages everyone to join in as this is “(y)our last opportunity to be part of it this evening”. By the bridge, the audience are practically shouting and many have stood up from their seats and are dancing.
It finally feels like a celebration of a milestone as a “cannon” shoots out purple and mauve streamers overhead. As the streamers fall, the song finishes and the band come to the front of the stage to toss picks, a guitar pick guard and a drum head into the GA (General Admission) audience in front of the stage. They pose for the obligatory end of show band pic and the band left the stage with waves goodbye, and the house lights came up. I turned to my brother and said “what? no encore?” This seems to be a trend we are seeing, though.
So, in summary, I loved the Evanescence concert. It was a long 20 years of waiting to finally see this much loved band perform some of my favourite songs live, but so worth the wait. Sharing the experience with my brother was the icing on the already delicious cake. The band were tight and professional, entertaining the audience without overly drawing attention away from Amy Lee. The sound was a bit muddy at times, but I’m thinking that is the venue, not the band. Cameras filming the show and projecting onto 2 large screens either side of the stage meant that whether you were front row on the rail or back row in the nose bleeds, you had some kind of view of the band and as a shorty, that gets bonus points from me! I loved seeing Emma Anzai play - one of my highlights. Amy Lee is beautiful and charming, she chats with the audience, is gracious and expressed her gratitude for the 20 years of “love and support” for her music career. Her vocals are stunningly on point and it’s my opinion that she has improved with age as a vocalist and a performer. First album, Fallen is a gothic, emotional album and latest album, The Bitter Truth has a more current, political vibe to it, so it is no surprise that the audience was a veritable melting pot that varied in age, gender, ethnicity and socio-economically. It was heartwarming to see mum, dad and the kids all enjoying the concert together. I highly recommend that if you enjoy Evanescence’s music and don’t already have a ticket for the remaining dates on this tour, that you do so forthwith - it’s totally worth it!

Evanescence (formed in 1995) is an American gothic influenced rock/metal band, best known for their breakthrough single “Bring Me to Life” and accompanying album “Fallen”, hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, U.S.
Formed by lead singer Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody in 1995, the duo had met a year earlier at a youth camp in Little Rock, Arkansas. Lee and Moody subsequently began writing and recording songs together, which included the early tracks “Solitude”, “Give Unto Me”, “Understanding”, and “My Immortal”. A couple of these songs found their way onto local radio, following which the pair performed their first live show and settled on the name Evanescence. In 1998 the band released their debut self-titled EP, limited to a hundred copies, followed a year later by the EP “Whisper”.
Later in 1999 Evanescence invited keyboard player and drummer David Hodges to expand the lineup, who recorded on the band’s debut album “Origin” in 2000. Evanescence subsequently signed with Wind-up Records, who relocated the band to Los Angeles and gave them living and rehearsal space on top of vocal and acting classes. After two years, in which time drummer Rocky Gray, rhythm guitarist John LeCompt, and bassist Will Boyd were added to the lineup, the band completed their label debut.
Featuring Dave Fortman on production duties, Evanescence released “Fallen” in March 2003, becoming one of the year’s most successful albums. Debuting at No. 7 however rising to No. 3 on the Billboard 200, the gothic-inspired, metal crunching, climatic-pop release secured five Grammy nominations of which the band won Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance. The record was led by the smash hit single “Bring Me to Life”, which charted in over 15 countries and secured platinum certification. The album transformed Evanescence into an internationally recognised group, and was supported by an extensive worldwide tour.
Following the supporting tour bassist Will Boyd left the group to spend time with his family, with former Revolution Smile guitarist Tim McCord taking his place. The band’s official sophomore album, “The Open Door”, was released in October 2006 and eclipsed the success of their debut by topping the U.S. Billboard 200. Led by the single “Call Me When You’re Sober”, the album earned a string of positive reviews and was once again supported with relentless touring.
In 2011 Evanescence returned from touring and time out to released their self-titled, third studio album. Once again topping the Billboard 200, the record is seen as a cohesive, creative, and progressive album for the group which lends infleunces from gothic rock, nu metal, and electro. Spanwing the singles “What You Want”, “My Heart is Broke”, and “Lost in Paradise”, the record’s supporting tour was alongside The Pretty Reckless and Fair to Midland.
Live reviews
I've been a huge fan of Evanescence since I was young, and through the changes of band members, i've remained enthused by their music and desperate to get a chance to see them live.
My friend and I were completely blown away by the performance that they gave at Wembley Arena, the dynamics and precision of the performance provided a smooth blended sound, incredibly similar to the recorded version of their music. The control of the vocals was really stunning, and Amy's ability to hold those high belting notes time after time was astounding and refreshing.
It was great to hear some of their new material alongside the classics, and they introduced and played it with enthusiasm that rubbed off to the audience, who were hearing the tracks for the first time. The way that they intertwined the new with the old worked really well, showing progression in their sound and subject matter, but the roots of their style were present and underlying in each song.
As well as the incredible performance from the band, credit must be given to the production team for the awesome lighting and costume, providing a spectacular visual experience for the audience too.
It was a great touch also that Amy Lee was given the opportunity to perform a couple of songs at the piano, showing off her beautiful voice. The entire audience seemed to be mesmarised and still. It was a magical moment that i'm extremely grateful I was able to experience.

When Evanescence took to the stage back in November 2012, Wembley Arena was ignited with bright lights and the sound of screaming fans. The show went off with a bang as the two time Grammy winners opened up with "What You Want" from their 2011 self-titled third album. Supporting acts were LostAlone and The Used who kept the arena hyped as they blazed through ten songs including the crowd favourites "Bird and the Worm" and "All That I've Got," setting pace for the explosive night to follow. Amy Lee’s vocals were exceptional. Even more so considering this was the band’s last performance in an incredible 131 show tour that began August 2011. She took to the stage with a Union Jack flag tied to her arm and a skirt made of flags to represent each of the 44 countries where the band performed during their eight leg tour. The majority of the set was of tracks from the album 'Evanescence,' but included classic hits like "Bring Me to Life" "Going Under" and a piano rendition by Amy Lee of "My Immortal’ that hands-down stole the show. The crowd held their own too by roaring lyrics and cheering the band on, feeding into the lively atmosphere. No doubt this was an unforgettable experience. It is safe to say Evanescence succeeded in ending their tour on an absolute high, leaving one fan to take to Facebook and post “It was the best day of my life, no joke."
In recent years the future of rock outfit Evanescence seemed to be relatively bleak when members announced a hiatus yet fans rejoiced across the globe earlier in 2015 as Amy Lee and co announced the reformation and return to the stage. It would seem an injustice for this well trained and well practiced band to retire from the circuit as they are one of the most iconic and recognisable outfits of the 00s.
Blending gothic rock and symphonic metal in an innovative way for the time has proven to be a formula for longevity for their career. Attracting a variety of fans to the performance this evening, the lights fall on a dramatic stage as the crunching instrumentals to 'What You Want' begin. Amy Lee is a truly phenomenal front woman managing to convey true and visceral emotion to thousands of people in an arena and make fairly individual impact to every single member of the audience. The discography may only stand at three albums yet the fans adore the music with such intensity that every song is bellowed back culminating in a singalong to the prolific 'Bring Me To Life' which threatens to break all noise pollution barriers in the near area.
The most mesmerizing, tragically, tear jerking, thought provoking, sympathetic, amazing, awesome, spectacular, and most entertaining concert of the year. Evanescence has been my favorite band when I was a high school junior in 2003. When I was watching the 2003 Daredevil film with Ben Affleck, I was hearing the songs of My Immortal and Bring me to life within the movie and those songs are so moving. Thus, I had to buy their debut album "fallen" and their later albums "The Open Door", third, 2011 self-titled album, and Synthesis. Evanescence make songs for people who have been abused, bullied, rejected, or anyone who had real tragedies in their lives. I have never been to an Evanescence concert at all but 9/1/2018 is the first Evanescence concert I have been to and I will remember it for the rest of my life and I will hopefully see another concert of Evanescence. The concert is truly a great show to go to. I am still a die hard Evanescence fan; they changed my life forever.
Amy Lee is simply amazing! We had the meet and great and I must admit, the meet and great is not quite what other bands do, and there was a lot of sitting around and nothing could be singed personally. You get a program signed by the band and shut up.
Frankly, we could have done without the Orchestra set, prior to the band coming on. It was mediocre at best. In Prague, we are used to high quality symphony music.
Once the band got on stage, WOW! Amy has a voice and transfers energy in a way I do not remember ay female vocalist since Janice Joplin. She is simply amazing touching hearts and even improving on her recordings. There is nothing like her live!!! She is a treasure and she has hired an A list band to back her up, unfortunately the attention to detail with the orchestra was not the same. In the end, you cannot miss her. I don't care if she is singing the national anthem, go see her!!!!
I have mixed feelings being a huge Evanescence fan. I had already see her last November with the symphony and it was really good. I for one like her Rock & Roll style as in all of the albums I currently have, which is all of them. All that said I thought I was going to see the other style of Evanescence which is why I spent a lot of money on the tickets for good seats. As always she is unbelievable which her voice but now I’m here and she is the opening act. I was like huh? She was listed first when I purchased the tickets so not sure what the deal was there. Now Linsey Stirling was kinda different and neat but it kinda was a Circus act and certainly not why I drive 4 hour to see my favorite band as an opening act.
Amy Lee we love lots but kinda disappointed.
They sound great live! This was a unique experience to see them perform with a full orchestra. Amy Lee's voice is hauntingly beautiful and always on point. All the instruments accompanying the band made the songs even more epic sounding! Amy Lee is a rock goddess. Also, Lindsey Sterling was fantastic as well. I like that Lindsey came out to play violin on "Hi-Lo" and Amy Lee came out to sing on Lindsey's song "Shatter Me". They complement each other very well. She can really shred on the violin! Some of her violins were very pretty and unique looking. I loved the dancers that Lindsey had performing alongside her. I thought it was funny when Lindsey showed a video of her dancing and singing to Evanescence when she was 15. Overall, a great experience.
Both #Evanescence and #Veridia rocked the Sands in Bethlehem PA and brightened my day. It was well worth my time and both bands will continue to be my #1 to see, meet, and great experience Everytime they come through. They raise my spirit, my mood, and brighten my day. Amy Lee's voice is phenomenal and unmatched by anyone and her musical talent is outstanding. It was awesome that Amy was the guest pianist for Veridia's one song that was so deep and meaningful to both singers. If you can, I recommend you go see them and once you do, you'll be hooked too. I wish then safe travels on their tour and best wishes for their future. Rock on your energy is outstanding and transfers to us.
What i love about an Evanescence gig is that Amy comes out and gives 110%. Tonight was no exception, although the sound balance was not good for the first few tracks. The day had been hot outside and the venue just got hotter as the gig went on, with stage hands passing out water. Without a new album this tour is effectively a re−run of what we had a few years ago, but no complaints from me and the good tempered heaving crowd in the stalls. Again, Amy proved she has lost none of her drive to smash out a great gig and deliver as a fantastic front woman, with a marvellous voice. Rock on with the next album!
Evanescence, and in particular Amy, was stellar as always. This is the second time I have seen them live and I commuted from Victoria BC Canada for the LA show. I was not disappointed.
With VIP tickets I met with Amy and saw her perform for sound check.
The entire band, as usually was flawless (Even when Amy derped one of her lines) and did not disappoint with their sound or the light show that accompanied them. And the haunting Led Zepplin cover of 'Going to California' was the cherry on top. Well done guys it was another dream come true!!!

Listen To Amy Lee Talk About The Upcoming Australian Tour:
The impact of fallen:.
Released in 2003, Fallen remains one of the most influential albums of the turn of the century. This critical and commercial triumph garnered five nominations at the 2004 Grammy Awards, securing wins for Best Hard Rock Performance and Best New Artist. The symphonic and delicate ballad, “My Immortal,” received an additional Grammy nomination the following year. Fallen soared to the top 10 charts in various countries, including Australia, and reached #1 in the UK. In the US alone, the album sold a staggering 10 million copies and achieved over 17 million copies sold worldwide. In late 2022, Fallen officially attained diamond certification.
The Enigmatic Beauty of Fallen:
Fallen’s allure lies in its lush and gloomy beauty, seamlessly blending symphonic elements with goth, rock, metal, and infectious hooks. Lead singles such as “Bring Me to Life,” “Going Under,” “My Immortal,” and “Everybody’s Fool” showcased the band’s unique style and garnered significant attention. The album’s macabre tinge set Evanescence apart from their nu metal contemporaries at the time. Its timeless appeal is evident through its inclusion in Rolling Stone’s “The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time” and the lasting praise for Amy Lee’s mesmerizing vocals.
Evanescence’s Musical Journey:
Since the release of Fallen, Evanescence has continued to create an enduring legacy. Following their breakthrough album, they achieved further success with The Open Door, which sold over five million copies worldwide. In 2011, their self-titled album, Evanescence, debuted at #1 on the ARIA album chart and Billboard Chart. The band’s fourth album, Synthesis, released in 2017, showcased their ambitious nature by combining intense live performances and timeless songwriting with a powerful live orchestra. Most recently, their 2021 release, The Bitter Truth, debuted at #3 on the ARIA chart, marking Evanescence’s highest debut in 15 years and solidifying their continued relevance and creativity.

Multiple Grammy wins and two decades on, the debut album Fallen from American rockers EVANESCENCE remains one of the most influential albums of the turn of the century. A critical and commercial triumph, fans can now witness highlights from the gothic beauty of the 2003 debut release and a career spanning set of fan favourites this year, with EVANESCENCE thrilled to announce their return to Australia this August and September celebrating 20 years of Fallen .
(Yes – Perth is included) Starting life when EVANESCENCE vocalist Amy Lee and co-founder Ben Moody began writing and recording songs in the mid 90s, 2003’s Fallen would go on to score five nominations at the 2004 Grammy Awards, winning Best Hard Rock Performance and Best New Artist, with the album’s symphonic and delicate ballad My Immortal also scoring an additional nomination at the Grammy Awards the following year. Hitting the top 10 charts in multiple countries upon its release, including Australia and a #1 in the UK, Fallen sold 10 million copies in the US alone, with over 17 million copies sold worldwide and officially reaching diamond certification in late 2022. Fallen’s lush and gloomy beauty memorably blended symphonic elements with goth, rock, metal and hooks aplenty, while also garnering significant attention for lead singles Bring Me to Life, Going Under, My Immortal and Everybody’s Fool . Renowned for their enamouring live show as much as they are for their haunting, potent and visceral material, this marks the band’s first Australian tour since their sublime run with local symphony orchestras in 2018 so get set to revisit the album that started it all and beyond when EVANESCENCE return to our shores to celebrate 20 years of Fallen . Tickets won’t last long for these incredible shows, secure your spot today!

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.
Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?
Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:
- Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
- Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
- How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
- What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
- What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
- What is the current exchange rate for rubles?
Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.
The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.
If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.
