Deep sea fishing

well this is a nice boat ride. fishing tho was interesting. Lines got tangled most of the trip. also snagged on the bottom~there was more time spent on untangling everyones lines then fishing. I liked it because we actually caught fish, no keepers.

Morning ride on the 11th on an excellent boat with a wonderful and knowledgeable crew! Saw lots of whales and other great scenery! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a whale watching tour.

This was a fantastic experience! The naturalist on board was excellent! The crew is on constant lookout for whales and other marine life. The naturalist explained all the behaviors of the whales and lots of facts about marine life, as well as information about the harbor while motoring in and out.. The boat got as close to the whales as legally possible and is in communication with the other boats in the area. Just remember, that for any "attraction" that is dependent on the weather and the behaviors of wildlife,,. there is no guarantee. We have been on whale watches in Canada and in the Azores where we never saw a whale. The two times we went out of Plymouth we saw lots of whales. The boats go out to Stellwagen bank which is a prime feeding area for the whales. It is a matter of luck sometimes, the time of year, and so on. NOTE: at times a discount Groupon deal is available, so check Groupon before buying your tickets and check on how to redeem the Groupon.

An amazing experience of a lifetime these creatures are simply majestic. Trip was informative, fun and worth every penny. Photos don't even do it justice. We got great footage and everyone in our group from 9 to 70 yrs old enjoyed it!

This is a must do experience! We had a great naturalist explaining the harbor and marine life! The whale watching was phenomenal. .. really close with great photo opportunities! We highly recommend this trip!

Went to P-town for the via via Capt. John's ferry. Great way to go. No parking issues, not hassle with traffic, just sit back and relax with a drink and a fantastic view.

Captain Ed Kislauskis has been fishing in the waters off of Plymouth for over 40 years. Ed has expertise in catching fish throughout all seasons and absolutely loves what he does.

Cuz charters offer a 4 hour, 6 hours, and 8-hour fishing trip. You have the option to combine your fishing trip with a whale watching and sightseeing tour as well.

You’ll be traveling in a 29’ Shamrock vessel that can comfortably fit 7 anglers. The boat is fully rigged for fishing and all equipment is provided.

At the end of the trip Captain Ed will take you to a local restaurant on the dock where chefs will expertly prepare your food for a post-trip meal.

Captain John Boats is a larger operation than the charters discussed so far. They have a fleet of five boats and several captains to staff their fleet.

Their boats are rather large so you will be fishing with other guests. However, if you are looking for a private charter you are able to contact them to discuss renting out a boat for just you and your crew.

They offer a cheaper alternative to renting an entire boat for the day, but you will have to pay a $10 fee to rent and use their fishing equipment.

We ended with 217 Bluefin Tuna from 53 days with the biggest estimated approx 700lbs and the smallest estimated around 150lbs.

The waters off the coast of Plymouth are home to some of the fastest species of fish on the planet, the Giant Bluefin Tuna. These powerful beasts can grow up to 12ft long and weigh in at over 600kg. Despite their size, they can take line off your reel at 46mph making them one of the most exciting and magnificent fish to catch on UK shorelines.

How It Works!

Bluefin tuna data collection programme.

The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) has selected Mark Jury of Fortuna Charters as one of the 25 skippers in the CHART programme to take out paying customers to catch Atlantic Bluefin tuna in English waters for 2022. The fishing season will run between 15 August and 11 December 2022.

Fortuna II is a 12m powerglide catamaran with a 5.1m beam, very stable. Our History

Captain John Boats was established in 1946, running daily fishing trips. Captain John Boats now runs whale watching trips, deep sea fishing trips, a fast ferry run to Provincetown, harbor cruises, and private charters departing from the historic waterfront on both the Town Wharf and State Pier in Plymouth, MA, as well as the MacMillan Pier in Provincetown, MA.

KENNY HYSLOP

Kenny Hyslop has been working at Captain John as a deckhand since the age of 13 after a field trip sparked his interest in fishing. When he turned 19 years old, he received his 100-ton Captain’s license and has been fishing the waters of Cape Cod Bay ever since. Kenny grew up in Plymouth, where he still lives now. When he is not out on the water, you can find him hanging out with his 4 kids or fishing with friends. Kenny is certified in CPR and primarily runs the Captain John & Son.

Jack Gould grew up in Sandwich, MA and has wanted to be a captain since he was young. He grew up sailing and fishing. Jack graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 2020 and has had his license since 2018. Jack is First Aid and CPR certified. Outside of work, Jack likes to spend time fishing with friends and family.

JACK PANZERA

Jack was born and raised in Plymouth, MA. At the age of 15, he began working at Captain John as a deckhand as he has always had a love for the ocean and fishing. When he turned 21, he received his 100 ton Captain’s license. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Jack is certified in CPR and primarily runs the Capt. John & Son and the Pilgrim Belle.

MIKE HICKEY

Mike Hickey has been working on the water for the majority of his life. He is also a Registered Maine Guide, and when he is not operating vessels at Captain John Boats, you can try to find him in the woods of Maine. He is First Aid and CPR certified. Mike operates any one of our boats on any given day, so if you see him on board, feel free to stop by the wheelhouse and say hi!

Lisa Burke started with Captain John Boats as an intern in 2012. She graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 2015 with a Bachelors of Science in Marine Transportation. In 2017, she was promoted to Captain and has been running the Pilgrim Belle ever since. She holds a 2nd Mate Unlimited Tonnage USCG license as well as a 100-ton Captain license.

LINDSAY HIRT

Lindsay Hirt, a Plymouth native, loves her salty hometown so much she decided to make a full circle back here to work after about a decade of academic study and field research along both poles of the eastern seaboard. Lindsay is a marine biologist with a focus on wildlife emergency management and a fondness for teaching others, especially kids, about environmental conservation. She is trained in wildlife rescue for both land and marine species. Over the course of her career, she has interned, volunteered, or worked directly with a wide range of conservation groups, including the National Marine Life Center, International Fund for Animal Welfare, Whale and Dolphin Conservation, New England Aquarium, and the Goldenrod Foundation. The deciding factor for becoming a marine biologist was one Lindsay will never forget- seeing her first whale on a Captain John Boat at age five! She hopes you’ll be just as inspired after an amazing day on the water watching whales.

MICHELLE COLLINS

Michelle Collins comes to us from the fine state of Illinois. She graduated in 2012 from the University of  Illinois with degrees in Integrative Biology and Psychology. Just after graduation, she came to Plymouth as an intern on Captain John, started working on the whale watches and has been onboard every season since! After spending almost a decade working in marine mammal conservation,  Michelle now works in science communication for the Commonwealth. When she is not onboard, you can find Michelle with her two favorite dogs, crafting, and trying to keep up with Taylor Swift. Michelle loves seeing whales every summer and is excited to see what the next season whale watch has in store!
