  I.Visa Types and  Required Documents

  Annex 1  Important Tips for online COVA visa form filling

(1) Please carefully read the prompts and requirements of the COVA form system, and complete the entries of the visa application COVA online form step by step, making sure that the information is true, accurate and complete. Please note: Once the application form has been submitted, it cannot be modified in any way.

(2) The " location " option  for submitting the visa application should be in line with the consular jurisdiction.

(3) Basic personal information. Surname, given names, gender, date of birth, nationality, passport number, passport type, etc. must be exactly the same as those on the passport information page, otherwise your visa application will be returned.

(4) If you were born in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), please note:

1. Application form 1.1D The Chinese name (if applicable) must be entered in Chinese with the Chinese character input method, please do not fill in "Chinese", "Chinese", etc.

2. In the application form 1.6G, select "Yes" for "former nationality", and then select the nationality information.

3. Item 1.6H of the application form is required. If the applicant is applying for a Chinese visa for the first time, this entry will be automatically generated during the form filling process; but if the applicant has previously applied for a Chinese visa, this entry will not be displayed when filling in the online form, and the form must be printed out and supplemented by hand-written Chinese name and other information. This Item cannot be empty.

(5) Fill in the work experience and educational background

1. Please fill in the work experience in the past 5 years.

2. The “position” and “duty” of the application form 3.2D and 3.2E must be filled in completely.

3. Please fill in the highest diploma/degree in 4.1 , and the diploma/degree and major in 4.1B and 4.1C must be completed.

(6) Completely fill in each address

The address of the spouse in 5.5A of the application form must fill in the address of the current location, not the address of the place of birth. The address must be filled in completely, including street, city, state, and country.

(7) If you choose "not applicable" for any entry in the form, you need to state the reason for “not applicable”.

(8) Printing and signing. After completing the COVA online form filling, you must print out a full set of application forms, including the "Confirmation of Online Visa application" and "Visa Application Form of the People's Republic of China" (depending on the individual filling situation, a total of 8 to 9 pages will be generated). All the pages of the forms must be printed to turn in, the signature and date on the Confirmation Page and the 8th page of Visa Application Form of the People's Republic of China must be handwritten by the applicant him/herself. Visa applicant under the age of 18 is signed by their guardian, and meanwhile add a handwritten signature in the "For person filling in the application on the applicant’s behalf".

  Annex 2  Contents of S1, S2, Q1, Q2 Visa Invitation Letter

Inviter’s name XX, gender X, date of birth: XX, Chinese ID number XXX (or foreign passport number XX, Chinese permanent residence card number XX), current address in China is XX, contact phone number XX, email XX.

I hereby invite the following relatives to visit China for a short-term visit/long-term residence. He/She plans to go to China on XX, and stay in China for XX days.

(1) Personal information of the invitee: name, gender, date of birth, passport number, etc.

(2) Information about the invitee’s visit to China: reason for coming to China, date of arrival and departure, place of visit, relationship with the inviting unit or inviter, who will pay for the travel, etc.

(3) Inviting party information: inviting party name, address, tel e phone number, official seal, legal representative or inviter’s signature, date, etc. (the information must be included in the text of the invitation letter)

II.Process of Visa Application

The  consular jurisdiction   of the Embassy  of the People ’ s Republic of China   includes : Washington D . C . , Delaware, Idaho, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Puerto Rico.. Please confirm that the applicant lives in the above-mentioned states before submitting the visa application.

(1)Visa applicants   need to   log on   to   the website   “ China Online Visa Application (COVA) ”   to fill in the COVA   forms .

After completing the COVA forms as required, please   make sure to  print the full set of COVA forms (8-9 pages)  and  sign   on the Confirmation Page and the 8 th   page .   If the COVA forms   are   not prepared   as guided, the application will not be accepted.

(2)   The physical application documents   can be submitted to the Visa Office within the office hours   by the visa applicant or by an agent .

(3)  In addition to the printed   and   signed   COVA forms, visa applicants also need to prepare the physical   Required Documents (include   "A.Basic Documents"   and   "B.General Documents")    to   submit   on-site   to   the   Visa   Office. If the physical documents   do not meet the requirements   or not sufficient, the application may be returned, and the applicant   may need to fill in the COVA forms  again .

(4) Please check all the information on the visa is correct when picking up. If there is any inaccuracy, please tell the staff immediate ly in case inconvenience brought by the incorrect information. Credit card (Master or Visa card only), money order or cashier's check are accepted for on-site pick-up.

The Chinese Embassy in India has announced that they have implemented temporary changes to the country’s visa for inbound travellers, offering greater flexibility.

According to a statement shared by the Embassy on X (formerly Twitter), eligible applicants seeking a visa for various purposes, including tourism, business, short-term family visits and transit, will no longer need to provide biometric data. This will let Indians complete the application for their China visa without submitting fingerprints. The changes will remain in place until December 31, 2023.

The move is expected to benefit many, especially those aged below 14 and above 70 years, people whose fingerprints have recently been collected by the Chinese Embassy as well as individuals whose fingerprints are deemed ‘uncollectable’, writes The Economic Times .

The Embassy stated in their post that applicants can get in touch with the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Delhi for proper guidance and to learn more about the updates. They have established direct communication channels for this purpose, adds the report.

Travellers can apply online for the visa. Additionally, they need to ensure that their passport is valid for at least six months and has a minimum of two blank pages. Applicants will also have to provide photocopies of relevant passport pages, passport-sized photographs, and proof of residence and employment status, states the ET report. 1. Find out if you need a visa

The first thing is to check whether you need a visa or not. You usually need to apply for a Chinese visa unless you meet one of China's visa-free policies . 72- and 144-hour visa-free transit offer great convenience if you have a layover in China.

2. Find out which visa you need.

There are many types of China visa. Choose a visa type that applies to your situation. If you are planning to go on a vacation in China, apply for a Tourist Visa (L Visa).

3. Prepare the required documents.

The following list of documents are required for any China visa application:

• A valid passport. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months when you enter China.
• A complete visa application form (The visa application form can be downloaded from the Chinese embassy website or from our website. You complete it by computer, print and sign it. In some countries such as UK you should complete an online form . On the form, you might find an item "Serial number of invitation letter of the authorized organization", you may skip this item if you don't have an invitation letter, or the invitation letter is not of this type.)
• A recent passport-type photograph (head and shoulders only, front view, with a white background, approximately 48mmx33mm)

Along with the aforementioned generally required documents, several additional documents are required depending upon the type of China visa applied for.

For instance, if you are applying for a tourist L visa , you need to prepare an air ticket booking record (round trip) and proof of a hotel reservation OR an invitation letter issued by a Chinese travel agency. ( An invitation letter could be provided by us without extra charge if a China tour of 3 days or more is booked .)

An invitation letter can replace the air ticket and hotel booking if you are planning to stay with friends or family who live in China and can't provide the hotel confirmation, or if your travel is being organized by a travel agency (or other duly authorized organization) in China . We can provide you with the invitation letter if you book a tour with us.

4. Submit the application.

You may submit the application to the Visa Office at Chinese embassies or consulates, or China Visa Application Service Centers (also called CVASC) if they are operating in your country.

Starting from 2018, visa applicants from more and more countries (including the U.S., the UK, and Canada) have to make their visa application in person and have their fingerprints collected .

The regular service processing time is 4 days, and the rushed service takes about 1 day. The latter is only available in extreme emergencies pending a consular officer's approval.

5. Pay the fee and collect your visa.

Go to the place where you apply for China visa, pay the fee and collect your visa.

Chinese visa for Indian citizens resumes today after a 3-year gap

After a three-year hiatus, China has announced the resumption of all types of visas for Indian travellers, including those for tourism purposes. “The Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in India will resume issuing various types of Chinese visas, starting March 15,” it announced Tuesday.

With this, China has resumed all types of visas for foreigners, including tourism visas, port visas, and multiple visa-exemption policies, as a move to reopen its borders for the first time after the coronavirus pandemic struck in early 2020. However, inbound travellers have been advised to consult with their local China embassies or consulates for more detailed requirements and procedures.

Under its zero-Covid policy, China had imposed strict travel restrictions on international arrivals starting March 28, 2020, to stop the spread of coronavirus disease cases from abroad. In addition to the reduced frequency of international passenger flights, the restrictions included limited visa availability – including a suspension of tourist visas – and strict Covid-19 testing and quarantine requirements before and after arrival in China.

However, late last year, the country had shifted from a “zero-Covid” policy to “living with Covid”, with the removal of centralised quarantine for inbound travellers. Gradually, they reopened visa applications for most types of visas, even as visa applications for tourism and medical treatment were still on hold.

Now, “with the latest policy adjustment” announced by the embassies across the world – including in Canada, France, Kuwait, Malta, New Zealand, Thailand, the US, and the UAE – these restrictions will finally be removed.

In August 2022, the Chinese embassy had resumed services for 10 types of ordinary visas for Indian citizens, including long-term study, business, work, family visits, personal visits, and talent introduction, among others. However, applications for visas to China for travel, medical treatment and other reasons remain suspended.

Even as the number of Indian citizens entering China with visas for business visits, family visits are also expected to rise significantly after this move, experts in the travel industry say this may not mean much till direct flights to China are resumed. Currently, China and India are said to be negotiating details for the resumption of direct flights, which were curtailed during the pandemic.

• The Chinese visa photo size must be 48mm in height and 33mm in width, with a width of the head of 15mm to 22mm and a height of 20mm to 33mm.

• The applicant has to be easily identifiable from the photo;
• Facial features should be complete and visible, with the head centered in the photo;
• Eyeglasses are allowed except thick-rimmed, tinted, or glare glasses;
• Hat or other head wears are only permitted due to religious reasons, but any facial features should not be obscured;
• There should be no damage or impurities on the photo, no permeation or shadow over the face;
• The photo should be in a natural tone but not over or under-exposed, red-eyed, or distorted;
• The background should be in white or off-white and with no edge frame
• The photo should be printed on glossy finish photo paper, not matte finish paper or plain paper, and should be stainless, scratchless, or without any crease.

1. Do Indians need a Visa for China?

Yes, any Indian visiting China either for tourism or transit, will need to apply for the relevant visa. There is no visa-on-arrival for China.

• For Single entry Tourist visa – 30 days.
• For Transit visa – 7 to 10 days.
• For Q2, S2, J2 & X2 – Maximum of 180 days.
• For Q1, J1, S1, Z or X1 Visa, your duration of stay is given as 000. Which means you need to apply for a temporary residence permit from a local entry and exit administration within 30 days after you enter China. During this validity of the residence permit, you can stay as long as you wish. 
• In case you wish to extend your stay, you must apply at the Exit and Entry Administration of the local public security 7 days before your allowed stay duration expires. 

4. Do you need a Visa for Tibet?

Yes. You will have to apply for a Tiber Visa which is also called as Tibet Permit or Tibet Travel Permit. Based on your trip plan, you will be categorized into 3 types.

• Indian citizens who wish to travel to Tibet to visit places other than Mount Kailash or Ali prefecture.
• Indian citizens who wish to travel around Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar for pilgrimage purposes.
• American Indians with US passport. Though you won’t be treated as a pilgrim even if you’re an Indian.

As of March 15, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in India will adopt the following new measures for Chinese visa application.

1. Application Procedures

1.1  Visa applications are processed in accordance with respective consular jurisdiction areas of Chinese Embassy and Consulates-General in India. For applicants who reside in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chattisgarh, and West Bengal, their visa applications are processed by Chinese Consulate-General in Kolkata. For applicants who reside in Maharashtra or Karnataka, their visa applications are processed by Chinese Consulate-General in Mumbai. For applicants who reside in areas other than those mentioned above, their visa applications are processed by Chinese Embassy in India.

1.2  For applicants residing in the consular jurisdiction area of Chinese Embassy in India, please submit visa application documents through Chinese Visa Application Service Center in New Delhi. First of all, please visit the website of Chinese Visa Application Service Center in New Delhi (https://bio.visaforchina.org/DEL2_EN/), fill out visa application form and confirmation page online，make an appointment, print out the confirmation page and full form, and sign name. Then at the appointment time, submit the application in person with materials (please see Part 2 for material requirements) at Chinese Visa Application Service Center in New Delhi and retain ten fingerprints.

1.3  The following applicants can be exempted from fingerprint collection: those who are under the age of 14 or over the age of 70; those who already had fingerprints collected within the past five years at Chinese Embassy in India or Chinese Visa Application Service Center in New Delhi using the same passport; Applicants with all fingerprints uncollectable.

2. Material Requirements 

2.1 General Documents

(1) Chinese Visa Application Form and Confirmation Page of Online Visa Application.

(2) Original passport still valid for at least 6 months, with 2 or more blank visa pages, and the photocopy of relevant passport pages；and expired passports within 5 years and the photocopy of relevant passport pages.

(3) Two recently-taken color passport photos (full face, front view and bare head，size: 48mm×33mm，within 6 months).

(4) Original and photocopy of the proof of legal stay, residence, employment or study status or valid visa (applicable to applicants of non-Indian citizens)

2.2 Category Documents

In addition to the general documents in 2.1, the following supporting documents for respective visa categories must be submitted:

2.3 Relevant Reminder

(1) The invitation letter may be in the form of fax, photocopy or computer printout, but consular officers may require the applicant to submit the original invitation letter. The invitation letter should contain following information: information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.); information on the visit, such as purpose of visit, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, intended arrival and departure dates, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures; information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of legal representative or the inviting individual, etc.)

(2) Consular officers may require the applicant to provide other supporting documents, or require an interview with the applicant. Consular officers will decide on whether the visa should be issued and on its validity, duration of stay and number of entries in light of specific conditions of the applicant.

3. Cases Not Needing To Apply For A New Visa

(1) Foreign nationals who subject to mutual visa exemption agreements. 

(2) Valid permanent resident permit ID card.

(3) Valid residence permits.

(4) Holding valid APEC Business Travel Cards  (please note: To further facilitate business travel, APEC Virtual Cards holders will also be accepted for entry from 1 May 2023. As transitional arrangement, APEC Virtual Card holders who need to apply for a visa before 1 May 2023 will be facilitated by the Embassy, please contact the consular section of the Embassy for details).

(5) Transit Visa Exemption Program.

(6) Hainan visa-free policy; Visa-free policy specified for foreign cruise-group-tour through Shanghai Port; Guangdong visa-free policy specified for foreign tour groups entering from Hong Kong SAR or Macao SAR; visa-free policy specified for foreign tour groups of ASEAN countries entering Guilin, Guangxi province (For details, please contact the immigration inspection authorities of the intended destination).

 4. Submitting Channels for Visa Application

Please submit visa applications to Chinese Visa Application Service Center in New Delhi, or in Kolkata or in Mumbai, according to respective consular jurisdiction area. For details of visa process, requirements, time limit and fees, please contact relevant visa center or refer to their websites.

5. Applications For Diplomatic And Service Passport Holders And Diplomatic, Service And Courtesy Visas

Please fill out the visa application form online (https://bio.visaforchina.org/DEL2_EN/) (no online appointment is required), print out the confirmation page and full form, sign name, and submit visa application with original passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages, a photocopy of the passport’s data page and the photo page if it is separate, one color passport photo and an official note to the Consular Section of Chinese Embassy in India. Diplomatic and Service Passport holders and Diplomatic, Service and Courtesy Visa applicants are exempted from fingerprint collection. For relevant questions, please directly contact the Consular Section of Chinese Embassy in India.

W hen you are planning your next vacation, make sure to research to see if the country you plan to visit requires a visa of any sort and which visa services are quickest and cheapest. 

The list of countries that require visas for Americans includes some travel hot-spots, including; Australia , China , India , and Kenya . Even though holders of a United States passport can currently travel to 183 countries and territories without a travel visa, or with a visa on arrival according to Wikipedia.org it’s vital to know if you need to arrange for a visa quite a bit in advance.

Here’s what you need to know about a few of the more frequently visited countries that require visas from U.S. citizens upon arrival.

One of the last things you might think about is visa requirements when planning your next vacation. 

Visa Requirements

Knowing which countries require a travel visa for U.S. citizens and understanding specific travel visa requirements for the country you plan to visit is of utmost importance. Unfortunately, there is not a set of travel visa rules that apply across the board. Each country that requires a travel visa will have its own requirements, so make sure to do your research and acquire all the documents needed prior to your visit. 

While there are many countries that don’t require a visa for a short stay (usually between 30-90 days), they may require a visa for a longer visit.  

How to Apply for a Travel Visa

For short-term travel, there are a couple of ways to secure a visa. For some countries, you can obtain a visa upon arrival by paying a fee at the airport, which is called “visa on arrival.” Some nations, however, require a visa application and approval before travel. For either scenario, the safest and smartest decision is to secure your visa in advance! There are many services that offer help with securing a travel visa and knowing how to get a visa for any country   can be a long process, so my suggestion is to start early! 

Visa Application Form

Each country has different requirements and their own visa application form. Some visas can be obtained on arrival at the airport, while some visas must be applied for in advance. 

Some visas take just a few days to receive after submission, while others can take several weeks. Again, begin your visa process as early as possible to assure you have no hiccups in your vacation plans.

Check the visa requirements for your nationality for every country in the world and discover the visa information you need for your chosen destination and then simply apply for an online visa directly with the country embassy or a company such as onlinevisa.com .

Indian Visa

You need a Visa to travel to India from the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia (as well as many other countries). Check the rules for your country, but U.S. citizens who want to travel to India for tourist purposes, and who plan to stay no longer than 60 days, may apply for a visa electronically. When I applied for my visa, the system was fairly clunky and I needed to upload a photo and a copy of my passport. I received my Indian visa within two days of applying.

Note, that India’s visa application process changes frequently, so the Indian embassy in Washington, D.C. suggests travelers to their website for updates before planning a trip. As things can change, do up to date research, but as of the writing of this article; a U.S. citizen can apply online for an electronic travel authorization referred to as an “e-Visa” up to four days before arrival in India, but no more than 30 days before travel. The e-Visa costs $100 and is valid for 60 days upon entry to India. (Be prepared to present a printed copy at customs in the international airport.)

Australian Visa

To apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) you must have a valid passport and apply for your ETA with the passport and passport number you will be traveling to Australia with. You can purchase an Australian ETA no later than 24 hours in advance of your departure. Electronic tourist visas are valid for one year and permit multiple stays of up to 90 days in Australia. They currently cost $20 per person.

Russian Visa

To enter Russia, residents of most countries, including the US are required to obtain a visa in advance. In order to get a Russian visa , the first thing you need is an invitation (also known as visa support letter). After that, you can apply for the visa at a Russian consulate, a travel agent or with a visa service company. U.S. citizens can apply for as long as 36 months with a tourist visa.  

Additional Required Paperwork

If you’re planning an international trip with a U.S. passport, be prepared with all of your paperwork. Although each country has different requirements, there are some general rules to observe when planning an international trip:

• Your Passport must be valid for at least 6 months to travel to most international locations and must have at least two blank pages available in your passport.
• You may be asked for  proof of onward travel , which is not a problem if you have a return ticket. If you plan on country-hopping, you’ll need to have proof of your travel plans. You may be refused to board on a flight if you cannot satisfy immigration that you plan on leaving their country. If you’re not sure when you plan on leaving, you can buy an onward flight that is refundable and re-book later.
• Some countries require that you have  adequate medical insurance to cover your stay. Regardless of whether it is mandatory, we highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance .  
• It is rare, but you may be asked for  proof of funds and will need to satisfy immigration that you can support your travels. This can catch you off guard, and trying to log in to your internet bank on airport Wi-Fi can be a bit frantic. To be prepared, make sure you have a copy of a bank statement or a screenshot on your phone.
• Regardless of whether a country has visa-free access, there are still requirements that need to be met if you’re going to travel abroad. We recommend that you confirm with the relevant embassy before making any travel plans.

1. Application Procedures

1.1 Visa applications are processed in accordance with respective consular jurisdiction areas of Chinese Embassy and Consulates-General in India. For applicants who reside in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chattisgarh, and  West Bengal, their visa applications are processed by Chinese Consulate-General in Kolkata. For applicants who reside in Maharashtra or Karnataka, their visa applications are processed by Chinese Consulate-General in Mumbai. For applicants who reside in areas other than those mentioned above, their visa applications are processed by Chinese Embassy in India.  Please check issue place of your passport for confirming the jurisdiction areas.

1.2 For applicants residing in the consular jurisdiction area of Chinese  Consulate in Kolkata , please submit visa application documents through Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Kolkata . First of all, please visit the website of Chinese Visa Application Service Center in  Kolkata https://www.visaforchina.cn/#/nav/quickSelection?visacenterCode=CCU2&request_locale=en_US&site_alias=CCU2_EN&isAuthentication=N   

fill out visa application form and confirmation page online ， make an appointment, print out the confirmation page and full form, and sign name. Then at the appointment time, submit the application in person with materials (please see Part 2 for material requirements) at Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Kolkata  and retain ten fingerprints.

1.3 The following applicants can be exempted from fingerprint collection: those who are under the age of 14 or over the age of 70; those who already had fingerprints collected within the past five years at Chinese Embassy in India or Chinese Visa Application Service Center in Kolkata  using the same passport; Applicants with all fingerprints uncollectable.

2. Material Requirements 

2.1 General Documents

(1) Chinese Visa Application Form and Confirmation Page of Online Visa Application.

(2) Original passport still valid for at least 6 months, with 2 or more blank visa pages, and the photocopy of relevant passport pages ； and expired passports within 5 years and the photocopy of relevant passport pages.

(3) Two recently-taken color passport photos (full face, front view and bare head ， size: 48mm×33mm ， within 6 months).

(4) Original and photocopy of the proof of legal stay, residence, employment or study status or valid visa (applicable to applicants of non-Indian citizens) .

(1) An invitation letter issued by a relevant entity or individual in China. The invitation should contain:

a. Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)

b.Information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures)

c.Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual)

G  Visa

 Personal or Company's written statement (covering letter with details as follows: basic information of the applicant, visiting purpose, place to visit, name, address and contact number of the inviting / contact company or person  if applicable ).

(1) Documents on the commercial activity issued by a trade partner in China, or trade fair invitation relevant entity or individual. The invitation letter should contain:

c.Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact telephone number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative or the inviting individual).

(2) Personal or company's written statement (covering letter with details as follows: basic information of the applicant, visiting purpose, place to visit, name, address and contact number of the inviting / contact company or person).

(1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:

b. Information on the visit ( purpose of visit, intended arrival date, place(s) of intended residence, intended duration of residence, relations between the applicant and the inviting  individual, financial source for expenditures)

c. Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, signature etc.)

(2) Personal written statement (covering letter with details as follows: basic information of the applicant, visiting purpose, place to visit, name, address and contact number of the inviting person).

Holders of Q1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

(1) An invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreign citizen with a Chinese permanent residence permit who lives in China. The invitation letter should contain:

b. Information on the visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) to be visited, relations between the applicant and the inviting individual, financial source for expenditures)

c. Information on the inviting individual (name, contact number, address, signature etc.)

(2) Personal written statement (covering letter with details as follows: basic information of the applicant, visiting purpose, place to visit, name, address and contact number of the inviting person).

(1) An invitation letter from the inviting individual (a foreigner who stays or resides in China for work or studies) which contains:

c. Information on the inviting individual (name, contact telephone number, address, signature, etc.)

(2) Personal written statement (covering letter with details as follows:   basic information of the applicant, visiting purpose, place to visit, name, address and contact number of the inviting person).

We kindly remind you that:

Holders of S1 Visa shall, within 30 days from the date of their entry, apply to the exit/entry administrations of public security organs under local people's governments at or above the county level in the proposed places of residence for foreigners' residence permits.

(1) One of the following supporting documents is required:

a. Original Foreigners Employment Permit of the People's Republic of China issued by Chinese government authorities for Human Resources and Social Security. If the work period is 90 days or less, original Approval of Short-Term Employment for Foreigners Working in P.R. China is needed.

b.Original Permit for Foreign Experts Working in China issued by the State Bureau of Foreign Experts.

c.Notification Letter of Foreigner's Work Permit in the People's Republic of China issued by the State Bureau of Foreign Experts.

d.Registration Certificate of Resident Representative Offices of Enterprises of Foreign Countries(regions) issued by Chinese authorities of industrial and commercial administration.

e. An original approval document for commercial performances issued by the Chinese government authorities for cultural affairs. If the performance period is 90 days or less, original Approval of Short-Term Employment for Foreigners Working in P.R. China is needed.

f.Original Letter of Invitation to Foreigners for Offshore Petroleum Operations in China issued by China National Offshore Oil Corporation;

(2) Personal written statement (covering letter with details as follows:   basic information of the applicant, visiting purpose, place to visit, name, address and contact number of the inviting / contact company or person).

A holder of category Z visa must apply for a residence permit at the local public security authorities within 30 days of entry into China unless the Duration of Each Stay on the visa is marked as 30 days.

Other Important Reminder

(1) The applicant should guarantee that all information provided in the application is true and correct. Any false, misleading or incomplete information may result in denial of the visa or refusal of entry into China.

(3)  The invitation letter may be in the form of fax, photocopy or computer printout, but consular officers may require the applicant to submit the original invitation letter.

(3) Consular officers may require the applicant to provide other supporting documents, or require an interview with the applicant.  C onsular officer s  will decide on whether or not to issue the visa and on its validity, duration of stay and number of entries in light of specific conditions of the applicant.

3. Cases Not Needing To Apply For A New Visa

(1) Foreign nationals who subject to mutual visa exemption agreements; 

(2) Valid permanent resident permit ID card;

(3) Valid residence permits;

(4) Holding valid APEC Business Travel Cards  (please note: To further facilitate business travel, APEC Virtual Cards holders will also be accepted for entry from 1 May 2023. As transitional arrangement, APEC Virtual Card holders who need to apply for a visa before 1 May 2023 will be facilitated by the Embassy, please contact the consular section of the Embassy for details);

(5)  Transit Visa Exemption Program.

(6)  Hainan visa-free policy; Visa-free policy specified for foreign cruise-group-tour through Shanghai port; Guangdong visa-free policy specified for foreign tour groups entering from Hong Kong SAR or Macao SAR; visa-free policy specified for foreign tour groups of ASEAN countries entering Guilin, Guangxi province (For details, please contact the immigration inspection authorities of the intended destination).

Please submit visa applications to Chinese Visa Application Service Center in New Delhi, or in Kolkata or in Mumbai, according to respective consular jurisdiction area  (checking issue place of your passport) . For details of visa process, requirements, time limit and fees, please contact relevant visa center or refer to their websites.

5 . Applications For Diplomatic And Service Passport Holders And Diplomatic, Service And Courtesy Visas

Please fill out  the visa application form online   through website of Chinese Visa Application Service Centre Kolkata  https://www.visaforchina.cn/#/nav/quickSelection?visacenterCode=CCU2&request_locale=en_US&site_alias=CCU2_EN&isAuthentication=N    ( no online appointment is required ), print out the confirmation page and full form, sign name, and submit visa application with original passport with at least six months of remaining validity and blank visa pages, a photocopy of the passport’s data page and the photo page if it is separate, one color passport photo and an official note to the Consular Section of Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata. Diplomatic and Service Passport holders and Diplomatic, Service and Courtesy Visa applicants are exempted from fingerprint collection. For relevant questions, please directly contact the Consular Section of Chinese Embassy in India.
