Discover The Benefits: Why You Should Try Cruising

An image showcasing a picturesque sunset at sea, with a cruise ship gently gliding through calm waters

I have always had a deep love for exploring new places, but sometimes, the process of planning and handling the logistics can be overwhelming. That’s exactly why I became so thrilled when I discovered the simplicity and comfort that come with cruising.

Imagine this: no need to worry about booking hotels, restaurants, or rental cars. Everything is taken care of for you, from transportation to and from the cruise port to the onboard experience itself. And let me tell you, the onboard experience is incredible. You have the freedom to spend your days as you please, whether that’s lounging by the pool, trying out exciting activities, or simply enjoying the breathtaking views.

Plus, the sense of community on a cruise is amazing. You get to meet new people, make friends, and socialize with like-minded individuals. But perhaps the best part of cruising is the unique experiences it offers. Sailing through fjords, exploring exotic locations, and even visiting places in Asia or the Middle East that may be difficult to reach otherwise.

So if you’re looking for an affordable and accessible way to see the world, I highly recommend giving cruising a try.

  • Cruises are easy to plan and convenient, with online portals and assistance from travel agents.
  • The onboard experience offers flexibility, the option to stay onboard and enjoy activities with fewer people, and a friendly environment and sense of community.
  • Cruising allows for unique experiences not found on land, such as sailing through fjords or visiting exotic locations, and makes it easier to visit and explore places in Asia or the Middle East.
  • Cruising is an affordable and accessible way to see the world, with the added benefit of expert advice from someone who has been on numerous cruises.

Planning and Convenience

Planning a cruise is so convenient because I can easily book everything online and get assistance from travel agents if needed. With the help of online portals, I can plan my entire cruise right from the comfort of my own home.

I can browse through different cruise options, compare prices, and choose the one that suits my preferences. If I have any questions or need additional help, I can always reach out to travel agents who are knowledgeable and experienced in the cruise industry. They can provide valuable insights, recommend the best cruise lines, and help me find the perfect itinerary.

The combination of online portals and travel agent assistance makes planning a cruise a breeze, ensuring a stress-free and enjoyable experience from start to finish.

Onboard Experience

Onboard, I can indulge in endless activities, from lounging by the pool to trying out thrilling waterslides, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Here are four reasons why the onboard experience on a cruise is truly remarkable:

Flexibility options: One of the best things about being on a cruise is the freedom to spend your days however you want. Whether you prefer to relax and soak up the sun or get active with sports and fitness classes, the choice is yours.

Socializing opportunities: Cruises offer a unique opportunity to meet new people and make lifelong friends. From organized social events to casual encounters at bars and restaurants, there are plenty of chances to mingle with like-minded individuals. Whether you’re traveling solo or with a group, the friendly atmosphere and sense of community on a cruise ship make it easy to strike up conversations and form connections.

Option to stay onboard: If you’re looking for a more intimate experience with fewer people, you can choose to stay onboard while the ship is docked at a port. This allows you to enjoy all the amenities and activities without the crowds, making it a perfect option for those who prefer a more relaxed and peaceful environment.

Easy to make friends: On a cruise, you’ll be surrounded by fellow passengers who share similar interests and a sense of adventure. This makes it incredibly easy to make friends and socialize throughout your journey. Whether it’s joining a group excursion or simply striking up a conversation at the pool, the friendly and inclusive environment onboard a cruise ship fosters connections and creates lasting memories.

Unique Experiences

Exploring new and exotic locations is an unparalleled adventure that can only be experienced on a cruise. One of the unique experiences that cruises offer is sailing through fjords, which are breathtaking natural wonders found in countries like Norway and New Zealand. Imagine gliding past towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and serene lakes, all from the comfort of your cruise ship. It’s a truly awe-inspiring sight that cannot be replicated on land.

Another advantage of cruising is the opportunity to explore Asia. With a cruise, you can easily visit multiple countries in this vast and diverse continent, such as Japan, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. From bustling cities to ancient temples, serene gardens to vibrant markets, Asia has so much to offer. Cruising allows you to immerse yourself in the rich cultures, sample delicious cuisine, and witness stunning landscapes that make Asia such a captivating destination.

Worth It? 15+ Questions & Answers About the Carnival CHEERS! Drink Package

If you’re taking a cruise aboard a Carnival ship, then chances are that you’ve seen mention of the CHEERS! beverage package. And you’re likely wondering if it’s worth the money.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Put simply, this package is an “all-you-can-drink” plan that covers alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages purchased aboard the ship. So instead of having to pay each time you get a beer or a cocktail from the bar, you simply pay one flat rate, and your drinks are included.

While the price may seem high to some (nearly $75 per day in some cases before gratuity), it easy to see that it could also offer a lot of value to those who plan to drink regularly on their cruise.

Still, there is a lot of fine print that comes along with the CHEERS! package and many people have questions about whether it’s a good deal for them. Below, we run through more than a dozen of the most important questions regarding CHEERS! and help you decide whether it is worth it for your next trip.

In This Article...

What is the Carnival CHEERS! package?

carnival cruise drink package on board

As mentioned above, the beverage package is like a buffet for drinks on the ship.

The “regular” way to purchase drinks is to buy them individually — so you pay the menu price for every beer or cocktail or soda that you drink. Given the cost of beverages on a cruise, the price can quickly add up. For some people, worrying about the cost can put a damper on the fun. Instead of enjoying their drink, they are thinking of the bar tab that awaits their account at the end of the cruise.

CHEERS! allows passengers to instead pay a flat daily fee per person to enjoy all the drinks they would like. They pay the same amount each day whether they have two beers or if they have ten cocktails. It makes it much easier to budget for the cruise and enjoy yourself without worrying about how much you’ve spent. And if you drink a lot, it can save you considerable money.

The package covers a wide variety of drinks, including everything from bottles of water to sodas to energy drinks to beer and cocktails. Basically, if you can drink it, it’s likely included in the CHEERS! package.

How much does CHEERS! cost?

The price for Carnival’s CHEERS! package varies based on the length of the cruise and when you buy.

As of this article’s publication date, the CHEERS! package aboard Carnival costs $59.95 per person, per day — if bought ahead of time. If you wait to purchase the beverage package until you board the ship, the price rises to $64.95 per day.

On top of that, the cruise line charges an 18% gratuity fee. Therefore, the actual total cost is $70.74 if bought ahead of the cruise or $76.64 per person, per day for those waiting to purchase until on the ship.

But there is another twist. Carnival recently bumped up the price of the package on shorter cruises of five days or fewer. In this case, the price is $69.95 per day (plus gratuity) if bought ahead of time or $74.95 per day (plus gratuity) if you buy on the ship.

You are charged this amount every day you are on the cruise — no matter if you are in port or at sea. It also doesn’t matter if you drink nothing on a certain day, or have 15 drinks. Each day is charged.

Is gratuity included in the price?

The “headline” price that’s advertised doesn’t include gratuity, but it will be included on your final charge.

Carnival charges an 18% gratuity automatically on the value of the package. Therefore, if you are sailing on a weeklong cruise and buy the package ahead of time, the cost is $59.95. But you’ll actually be charged $70.74 per person, each day.

Since you pay gratuity on the cost of the package, when you get a drink from the bar you are not charged an additional gratuity.

How old do you have to be to buy the CHEERS! package?

Passengers must be 21 years old to buy the package. Even though the drinking age may be lower in the ports you visit, Carnival goes by the 21 year age limit on the ship if sailing from North America.

Does everyone in the cabin have to purchase the package if one person does?

Yes. All adults over 21 in the cabin must purchase the beverage package if one person does. This requirement is likely to help stem the incentive for people to share drinks by only purchasing one package and then giving them to others in the cabin.

We’ve heard stories of Carnival relaxing this requirement if there is some sort of extenuating circumstance (such as the other person in the cabin is pregnant). However, if the other person doesn’t drink or simply doesn’t want the package, the rules say they still have to buy it if someone else in the cabin does.

Even so, it’s worth a few minutes to call before your cruise if you have a person in the cabin that doesn’t want the package.

How do I buy the CHEERS! package?

The easiest and cheapest way to purchase the package is to book it online through the Carnival Funshops after you’ve booked your cruise. You can also call Carnival and request the package be added to your account. Remember, booking the CHEERS! package ahead of time gives you a cheaper rate, so you want to book before you board.

If you wait until you board the ship, you can head to a bar and request to purchase the package. There are also tables set up the first day advertising the package.

What’s included in the package?

carnival cruise drink package on board

The good news is that most drinks served on the ship are included in the beverage package.

According to the cruise line, all “spirits, including cocktails, cognacs, whiskies and other spirits, as well as beer (including self-serve beer stations – PYOB) and wine and champagne by the glass, with a $20 USD or lower menu price per serving” are eligible. In our experience on the cruise line, that covers just about anything you could want.

In addition, you can drink the following with your package:

  • Virgin frozen cocktails
  • Sodas and juices
  • Specialty coffees
  • Energy drinks
  • Bottled water

There is also a 25% discount off the menu price for wine and champagne by the bottle and drinks over $20 per serving.

What’s NOT included?

While pretty much any drink from a bar is included, there are some exceptions that you will still be charged for, even if you purchase the CHEERS! Package:

  • Drinks in souvenir glasses
  • Alcohol by the bottle (except beer)
  • Drinks offered at the gangway (welcome beverages)
  • Room service alcohol or mini-bar drinks
  • Shareable drinks like buckets or pitchers
  • Fresh-squeezed orange juice served in the Havana Bar or dining room.

In other words, stick with drinks served at the bar if you want to keep from spending extra.

What if I order a drink over $20 per glass?

The Carnival CHEERS! package gives you the run of beverages from the ship’s bars for up to $20 per glass. If you order a drink that’s more than $20, the fine print says that you receive a 25% discount off the menu price. So a $30 drink would be charged at $22.50.

Truth is, you’d be hard-pressed to find a beverage above $20 unless it’s made to serve multiple people.

What about liquor rules in Texas and New York?

If you are sailing from Galveston or New York, you might have heard there are strange laws affecting alcohol sold on cruise ships. Due to state laws, Carnival can’t activate the CHEERS! package until the second day of the cruise.

If you purchase the package when sailing from one of these ports, you won’t pay for the package on the first day of the trip, but you also will have to purchase drinks instead of having them included. The package will activate at 6:00 a.m. on the second day of the cruise. For more on alcohol rules on a cruise from Texas, click here .

Can I share the package?

No. Sharing of the package is expressly prohibited. In fact, stopping passengers from sharing of the package is likely why Carnival requires all guests in a stateroom to purchase the package if one person does so.

If we’re honest, however, unless you’re being blatantly obvious in front of a bartender, it’s unlikely anyone would know that you shared a beverage bought with the package.

Do I have to buy the package for the entire cruise?

Yes. The package is sold only for the entire trip. You can’t pick and choose dates that you want to purchase nor can you purchase it halfway into the cruise.

That means you will pay for the CHEERS! package even if you are in port or don’t feel like drinking one day.

How many drinks can I buy at one time?

You can only purchase one beverage at a time. There is a five-minute waiting period between drinks.

If you want to purchase more than one drink, you can charge one to your drink package and simply pay for the others as normal on your onboard account. Or just wait five minutes to get another beverage included with the package.

Is there a daily limit to how many drinks you can have?

Yes. Carnival allows up to 15 alcoholic drinks per day (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.). After that, the guest will not be served any additional alcoholic beverages.

There is no limit on non-alcoholic drinks, however, so drink all the bottled water and sodas that you want!

Can I order a “double”?

Want to spice up your drink with an extra shot? You can’t do it on the beverage package. According to Carnival, a double shot is the same as ordering two drinks and is prohibited.

How will the bartender know I have purchased the CHEERS! package?

When the bartender swipes your card, your account will let them know that you’ve purchased the CHEERS! package. As well, they place a sticker on your card when you activate the package at a bar once onboard that identifies you as having purchased the package.

Does the drink package work on Carnival’s private islands or in ports?

No, the package only works for beverages served on the ship. Even though Carnival has private destinations for its guests like Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays, the drink package doesn’t work there. It also doesn’t work in regular ports of call like Cozumel or Nassau.

But that doesn’t mean you are out of luck on port days. As long as you are on the ship, you can use the CHEERS! package from the ship’s bars. So if you decide to hang out on the ship during port days (or when you return to the ship after visiting), you can still get drinks, even though the ship is docked.

Is the CHEERS! drink package worth it?

Carnival bar scene

If the package is worth it depends on your personal preferences.

Remember that the CHEERS! package from Carnival has to 1) be purchased for every day of the cruise and 2) be purchased by every adult member of the cabin. Including 18% gratuity, the price per day is more $70 per person at the cheapest.

Meanwhile, you can only use the package on the ship, so if you are out exploring ports of call, you’ll need to pay for drinks out of pocket.

For reference, the price of alcoholic drinks on the ship are roughly:

  • Beer: $6-8 per drink
  • Cocktails: $10-14 per drink
  • Wine: $8-14 per glass

So a person would have to drink about 8-10 beers per day or about 4-6 cocktails each and every day. Those figures get even bigger if sailing a cruise of five days or fewer, which sees a higher cost for the package.

How much you plan to drink will help you decide if the CHEERS! package is right for you. If you’re the sort of person who always enjoys a drink in their hand, then you could do well purchasing the package. Costs for individual drinks can quickly add up if you drink regularly.

But those that drink moderately or like to take breaks on some days may not get their money’s worth — especially on shorter cruises.

One other thing to factor is the convenience of having a set price. Some people may not come out ahead with the package based on how much they drink, but like not having to worry about what the bill will be at the end of the cruise. Drink packages allow you to better plan your costs and budget given that the cost is the same each day. It also lets you try new drinks without worrying about wasting money if you don’t like it.

To help you figure things out, we’ve put together the Drink Package Calculator to make it easier to estimate whether you should purchase the package.

I get drinks free anywhere on the ship promotion, but my spouse doesn’t have that offer. Do I just have to pay for his drink package only.

Hello, Are mocktails (virgin daquiri, virgin pina colada, ect.) in the soda package? can those be bought with the soda package?

No, it is no included in the soda package.

Traveling with teenagers, can I purchase this package for them simply for the energy drinks, coffee drinks, milkshakes and smoothies. They don’t drink soda.

Good question. The CHEERS! package says you have to be 21 to purchase, but the Bottomless Bubbles doesn’t have the items you mention. Looks like you’ll have to purchase individually. To be honest, it’s doubtful they would get the money’s worth anyway if they could purchase the alcoholic package and only bought non-alcoholic drinks.

The Cheers plan DEFINITELY would be a no-go for my wife and I. She rarely drinks if at all and I like to drink, but not as much as it would make it worth it. The next cruise we take was discounted due to my casino play and it includes the “Drinks On Us” promotion, so we will get free drinks while we play.

Just wondering if you can use non alcoholic drinks such as specialty coffees and milkshakes the first day on cruise if you have the cheers package..

Yes, you can!

If you are getting the drink package from a casino offer was the gratuity still paid for them. I know when they comp 555 Steakhouse I was told the gratuity was included so I’m just checking. This is just a question in no way does it mean I’m not tipping them. I may just tip a bit more if it’s not included.

If I buy travel insurance and the Cheers pkg,What happens if for some reason I have to cancel my cuise? Do I get my money back on the Cheers pkg?

Yes, gratuities, taxes/fees, and onboard purchases are refunded in the event of a cancelled cruise.

Is it 15 drinks per day per person? I.E. you have two adults in a cabin paying for the cheers program, each adult can have 15 alcoholic drinks?

Since we don’t drink much can we purchase the drink package RU2. What exactly is included in that package.

Do you have to finish the drinks where you’re served or are you able to freely roam with your drinks? Or even take it back to your stateroom?

You can take drinks anywhere with you around the ship. Feels strange at first, but you quickly get used to it!

Do you get charged the day of departure which in my case us 7am?

No. The day you leave is not included.

We’re considering purchasing the Cruise Cash Bar instead of the Cheers! Package since we don’t think we’ll drink that much. Is the Cruise Cash Bar, and the Cruise Cash, reloadable?

Are bottles of liquor included in the 15 drink limit or can I buy a bottle and still enjoy 15 drinks ?

Liquor from the duty free shops shouldn’t count toward the 15.

What are the prices of the non alcoholic drinks (i.e. milk shakes, energy drinks, etc.)? Wife isn’t a big drinker but would enjoy the drinks.

Depends on the drink. Sodas are around $3 per glass. Expect energy drinks, coffees, etc. to be in the $4-7 range.

What does “Alcohol by the bottle” mean? Do they sell bottled alcohol in a store on the ship?

In the duty-free shops there is alcohol for sale. You can’t buy that with the drink package.

But it’s my understanding they don’t let you DRINK those bottles on the ship either, right? Don’t they keep them until you disembark?

So my wife and I booked a cruise and in the deal she got the cheers package included but just for 1 person which will be for her. Now that I will be in the same cabin and I want the cheers package, can I just pay for myself while I’m on the boat?

It’s usual that all passengers in the same cabin need to get it. If you want the package anyway, I’d suggest buying it online before you cruise as it is cheaper this way.

i am curious about the cheers package one thing i have not read or seen explained is if you decide to get cheers WEEL in advance ((I.E. 1 year away)) does it just get the total price added to your total cruise cost and payable over time like the cruise cost or is it a lump price paid in full at one time?

Can I buy a fish bowl first, and then have my fifteen drinks on the Cheers package? I’m not sure I’ll make all those, but if I buy one first, does it count toward the drink maximum?

Not sure. I’d guess that any drink you buy — package or otherwise — would count toward a 15 drink limit per day. I’ve never even been close.

Hi! If I have a gift card, cruise cash or cruise cash bar. What about the gratuities? they discount it from that card? I prepaid the gratuities, but I don´t know if they charge it again.

That, I’m not sure! If you’ve prepaid gratuities, that doesn’t apply to bar drinks.

However, if you’ve bought the drink package, then the gratuities are already included in the cost of the package.

Do they have a package that includes all the non-alcoholic drinks, but not just sodas? We have teenagers and they like to drink virgin frozen drinks (i.e. pina coladas) and specialty coffee.

Oddly enough, they don’t. There is CHEERS!, which has virgin cocktails included and then Bottomless Bubbles, which is soda and juice. There’s nothing in between.

I understand that adults over 21 cannot share one CHEERS! package. However, can I share with my child? For example, can I get my 8 year old a milkshake? Thanks!

Carnival says “sharing is not permitted.” So technically, no. However, I think it would be surprising for them to be too upset about giving a kid a milkshake!

With the Cheers beverage package, I noticed that it includes specialty coffee. Can I use this in the RedFrog Rum Bar and the Coffee Bar? Or would it need to be paid for out of pocket?

Yes, it should work there.

Is it 15 drinks per person in the cabin per day or 15 drinks per the entire stateroom per day?

It’s per-person. Remember that non-alcoholic drinks don’t count toward the total.

Cancelled cruise had drink package for 4 people for 7 days. 1700.00 how long does it take to get reimbured?

That’s a question best left to the cruise line. Give them a call and they should be able to help you out.

Does the price go down the closer to sail day or is it the same price no matter when you buy the package

No, Carnival keeps the prices steady. There’s the discounted rate before you sail and then the higher rate on the ship.

Hi, when having purchased the Cheers package – can we then go directly to the bar after bording? Or do we have to wait until the ship has left the port? Thank you in advance. Otto

Depends on where you sail from. For most ports you can use it on the first day while the ship is in port (but you will be charged state tax if still ported). Texas and New York don’t allow drink packages, so your package will start the second morning.

Do you know il sparkling water is include in cheers package? Like perrier, lacroix or san pallegrino?

Yes, it will be included. The last bar menu we saw had San Pellegrino and Perrier aboard, but that was before the switch to Pepsi. You can also bring a dozen cans of anything non-alcoholic if you have a favorite brand.

Can we use our Cheers Program in all areas such as all restaurants, pool, casino, bars? We went on Oceana and restaurants weren’t included.

Yes, you can on Carnival.

I have a question about the one drink at a time purchase rule.

Does that apply to the non alcoholic drinks as well? Or would I be able to go up to a bar and get a frozen alcoholic drink and a coke at the same time without being charged?

Only one beverage can be served at a time. That includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Is the Cheers package good for drinks at ALL bars on Carnival Liberty?

Yes, for all drinks under $20

BY Chance does anyone have a working promo code for the Cheers package? there is a space to put a code in but not sure if they even have one. would be awesome if someone could hook it up with a discount code.

Just wondered if you are on a cruise that embarks 3/21 and disembarks on 3/29 – are we charged for 8 days of Cheers or only 7 – as you miss a lot of drinking on the first day you board the ship.

So it’s listed as an 8-day cruise? In that case, it’s a charge for eight days. The first day counts. The day you get off the ship does not.

Do you have to purchase cheers prior to boarding? And do you pay for it prior to cruising or once you disembark the ship at the final destination you pay your final provisions?

You can buy it cheaper if you buy online ahead of time. It’s slightly more on the ship to purchase. If you wait to buy it on the ship, you’ll pay for it at the end of the cruise.

I’m very picky about what wines and liquor I will drink. Is there a way to see which liquors and wines will be in the bars? For liquor I’m specifically wanting to know if amaretto is available and for wines I’m wondering which if any moscato’s (undeveloped palate) they have? Thanks!!

What’s available can vary from bar to bar and there are lots of choices. We don’t have a list of every alcohol served, but it’s likely they will have something you’ll like!

How much is soda pckg? And do they limit the amount you can have? Can you not purchase alcohol pckg and pay for drink? What if the people in cabin want 2 different packages?

Will the Cheers pkg be available to use as soon as you board in Florida?

Yes, it should be.

How big are the cocktails, are they typical “bar size”, where they are gone in about 5 drinks? Will they fill your cup you bring with you, like a yeti?

No, the cocktails are full-sized. They come in full-sized glasses. We’ve never seen them fill passenger’s cups, likely due to health rules. There’s nothing stopping you from pouring it from the glass they serve into your Yeti.

Great article, thank you! 2 questions- do you get a “soda cup” if you buy the Cheers program and does anyone know anything about taxes charged per drink on an Alaska sailing from Seattle?

Will alcoholic drinks at dinner be covered by the Cheers! package? We purchased Bottomless Bubbles last year and sodas at dinner were NOT covered by the package and we ended up paying extra for them, even though we’d paid about $10/day for the package.

That’s surprising to hear about the soda not being covered. Your dinner drinks should be covered. If you are worried about it, stop at a bar on your way into dinner just to be sure.

Can my friendAnd I pay for one cheers package together seen that we are not heavy drinkers And won’t be drinking every day. Please let me know thank you

No, that’s not allowed.

Departing Galveston, why does the Cheers program activate until day 2? What is the reason behind that? Just curious.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) has some rules regarding “all you can drink” offers. You can read more here: https://cruzely.com/answered-first-day-drink-packages-and-alcohol-on-galveston-cruises/

How serious are they about this whole room has to purchase the cheers package? We are going on a bachelor party soon and I wanted To get it but two other guys in my room don’t? If I wait To purchase it when I board Will they sell me the cheers package to just me?? How will they know how many people are in my room and how many don’t purchase the cheers package? Can or will they look it up before they sell me the package? Thx

It’s always worth a shot. We haven’t tried to purchase in the different scenarios that you’ve mentioned.

They should be able to tell how many people are in your cabin when they scan your card.

They know how many people are in your room and they know who they are so they will charge you that way. If you have a couple of other buddies who DO want to purchase the package, you should room with them, that way you’re all covered/paying for it and the other guys aren’t. Otherwise you won’t be able to cover the price of the whole package unless you either A. Pay for everyone else in your room to have it too, or B. Force them to pay for it, even if you don’t.

Hi I got the bottomless bubbles and someone said this is a better deal – can I change and get the cheers card and pay the difference in price – I thought you could only get alcoholic drinks that’s why I went with the other card

We’d need to know more details for your specific situation. The CHEERS! package includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. If you aren’t going to drink alcohol, then we’re not sure how it would be a better details because the CHEERS! package is much more expensive.

If I don’t buy the cheers program is there a limit to what drinks I buy. ie can I buy 16 or 17th drink if I get to that number or is 15 the maximum package or no package

We’re not 100% sure, but we’d expect you will be cut off after 15.

Can you bring more than wine unboard? Does the Sunrise Cruise offer a soda package? I drink about 2 drinks a month, cheers not for me but it would be for my husband.

Wine, champagne, and a small amount of non-alcoholic drinks are allowed. No beer or hard liquor. Carnival does have a soda package as well.

Daughter is 20 she plans on drinking after we leave port , do I have to get her cheers package, she is in same room as wife and I whom do have cheers. 2nd if I dont have to get it for her can I?

Passengers have to be 21 years old to drink.

Do drinks (beer, wine, etc.) ordered during dining form part of the package? Or only those ordered at the bar?

Yes, the drinks at dinner are part of the package. Not room service, however.

If I reach my 15 drunk limit can I pay out of pocket for another drink? Or pay out of pocket before I hit 15?

No, they have a 15 day limit, with or without the card.

what i’ve been told recently is if you think you’re going to hit the 15 limit, buy OFF the package. ask to be charged for it, order from room service and pay for it, or order a bucket of beer (NOT ON THE PACKAGE).

Does the drink package include the last day? Day of departure?

We don’t believe it does. In fact, we’ve never noticed a bar be open on debarkation morning. You also don’t pay for the debarkation day in the package price.

We’ve always gone into the Main Dining Room for breakfast on departure and have been able to order mimosas and bloody marys for breakfast without paying anything other than the tax (just like the first day of the cruise).

Does my 87 year old parent who’s going on the trip have to purchase a package also?

According to the rules we’ve seen, yes — if another adult in the cabin buys the package. Even so, we suggest giving them a call and seeing if they might give you a break given the age.

I did not feel drinks were watered down and I also found I could request wine by the glass of better wines (not layer cake, etc). Also, there is value in being able to get bottled water at every meal and coffee, iced coffee, spiked coffee :). I feel it work for us. Thank you,

Are the drinks watered down for this program? We just went To an all inclusive in Mexico and the drinks had little to no alcohol in them. Is it the same on this cheers program?

We’ve never experienced watered-down drinks… but we are also lightweights!

NEVER . . and we’re NOT lightweights. they take care of you. we usually find our favorite bartender, tip them well, and we’re taken care of the whole time.

This article is incorrect. You cannot even purchase a double even if you want to buy it. You cannot purchase a bucket of beer even if you elected. This is not allowed with the Cheers package. It was extremely frustrating and felt like we dis something wrong by buying this package.

Right, there is a five-minute wait between ordering drinks.

Can I get myself and my wife a drink if we both have the package and I bring her card with me? Or would each of us have to go to the bar?

Not 100% sure, but we’d guess yes. At worst you’d have to wait 5 minutes for a second drink or both go to the bar. We’re sure it happens all the time, however.

they never would let us bring two cards up. we switched to another cruise line and they would let you bring up 4 if you could carry them. we’re in havana this year so i’m hoping we can do it cuz they should be able to see us!

If I share a room with another person who is an alcoholic they must purchase a Cheers package also?

(recovering alcoholic)

Give the cruise line a call. While you’re supposed to, they can sometimes work with you in certain situations.

Where can I take my personal bottle of wine I bring on board with me? Do I have to stay in my room with it or may I take it on to the deck?

If you take it in a restaurant, the rules state that you will be charged a “corking” fee. We suggest enjoying it in your room or simply carrying a glass with you around the ship.

The Cheers package the $51.95 a day is that Canadian or American money?

That’s USD.

Is there a soda and bottled water package? We are not drinkers

There is a soda package. Bottled water is available for about $4 for a dozen bottles. You can have it delivered to your stateroom before you embark.

Do they give you cups when you buy the drink package for soda and other drinks

  • The stated prices do not include the additional 18% service charge which is added when purchasing the package. Additionally, applicable state and local taxes will be applied to purchases made in U.S. waters once onboard the ship.

Carnival Cruise Line Beverage Packages

What drinks do you get for free on Carnival?

Some beverages are included in the price of your Carnival cruise fare and are available 24 hours a day in the Lido Marketplace. They are also free while dining in the main dining rooms. These options are non-bottled water, lemonade, iced tea, hot chocolate, and non-specialty coffee and tea. There are also complimentary juices available in the morning such as apple, orange, and cranberry.

How do you purchase drink packages on Carnival?

You can purchase drink packages on Carnival online pre-cruise or once onboard the ship. Purchasing your beverage package pre-cruise will save you 10% off the onboard prices.

The cut-off for pre-purchase is 11:59 PM the day before embarkation.

If you pre-purchased a Carnival drink package, it will be activated upon boarding the ship. You should head to a bar once onboard the ship for a sticker which will be placed on your Sail & Sign card.

Due to state laws, the Cheers package cannot be sold on the first day of the cruise on departures from Texas, New York, or Virginia. If you have pre-purchased a package, it will only be activated at 6 AM on the second day of the cruise. Drinks purchased on the first day of the cruise will be charged to the guest’s Sail & Sign card in the usual manner.

Can one person get a drink package on Carnival?

Of course, it is never mandatory to buy a drink package. The drink packages on Carnival are add-ons to your cruise vacation. However, there is no sharing of the package or using your package to order drinks for other cruisers.

So, if one guest in the stateroom wishes to purchase a beverage package, each adult in the cabin that’s old enough needs to purchase one as well. Cruisers must be 21 years of age or older to purchase the Cheers program (alcoholic beverage package).

What are the drink packages on Carnival cruises?

Carnival Cruise Line offers two drink packages. There is the alcoholic drink package, also known as the Cheers! Beverage Program. There is also the unlimited soda program, called the Bottomless Bubbles package.

How much is the drink package on Carnival?

  • Cheers Package: Starting at $59.95 per person, per day
  • Bottomless Bubbles: Starting at $6.95  per child or $9.50 per adult, per day

How do you get the best deal on a Carnival drink package?

You can save 10% on your Carnival drink package by purchasing before you sail. If you wait to get the package once on board, it costs $74.95 per person, per day.

How many drinks do you get with the Carnival drink package?

Soda and other non-alcoholic beverages are unlimited; however, you can not consume more than 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hour period (6 AM to 6 AM). This does not just apply to the package; even if you want to buy additional drinks a la carte, you will not be permitted to within that 24 hour period.

No matter what package you choose, you can only get one drink at a time with a five minute wait time between orders. There are no double shots as that is considered ordering two drinks at once.

Carnival Cruise Line Beverage Packages

If guests purchase drinks for friends, one drink will count towards the Cheers package and the remaining drinks will be charged to the guest’s Sail and Sign account.

Of course, staff do have the right to refuse you bar service if you are intoxicated. Knowing your limits is just as important on a cruise ship as it is during your regular life!

What drinks are included in the Carnival drink packages?

When it comes to a Carnival drink package, cruisers can select from a number of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. Below, we detail what is included in the drink packages on Carnival.

Cheers Program

Carnival Cruise Line offers only one alcoholic drink package, known as the Cheers Beverage Program. Many cruisers refer to this as the unlimited drink package, as it includes essentially all alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for a flat daily rate.

The pricing of this package starts at $59.95 per person, per day (plus gratuity).

This plan covers all alcoholic beverages including beers, wine, and champagne by the glass, as well as cocktails and spirits worth up to $20. This also includes the self-serve beer stations.

Further, this Carnival drink package also includes soda, virgin cocktails, juices, specialty coffees and teas, milkshakes, energy drinks, Powerade and Vitamin Water, and 500 ml bottled water.

The Cheers Program also entitles cruisers to a 25% discount off of any drink costing more than the $20 allotment, wine and champagne by the bottle, and beverage seminars and classes.

Carnival Panorama Ship Scorecard

However, there are some exclusions to the Cheers Program. This includes beverages sold in souvenir glasses and bottles of liquor. Also, drinks sold at the gangway, through room service, or the mini-bar are also not included in this beverage package. Sharing cocktails, pitchers, tubes, and buckets are not included either.

While there is a limit of 15 alcoholic drinks with this Carnival drink package, soda and other non-alcoholic beverages do not count towards this limit.

Summary of what’s included in the Cheers drink package:

  • All spirits, cocktails, beer, and wine by the glass with a $20 or less menu price
  • Sodas, zero-proof frozen cocktails, energy drinks, specialty coffee, hot tea, 500 ml bottled water, and other non-alcoholic bottled beverages
  • Packaged water in the main dining room and specialty restaurants
  • 25% discount off the menu price for any spirit or wine by the glass above $20
  • 25% discount off the menu price for wine and champagne by the bottle
  • 25% discount off beverage seminars and classes

Bottomless Bubbles

Bottomless Bubbles is Carnival Cruise Line’s unlimited soda package. For one flat fee, cruisers can enjoy all the fountain soda and juices they want with this package.

The pricing of this package starts at $6.95 per child (17 years of age and younger) or $9.50 per adult (plus 18% gratuity).

Like the alcoholic drink package, you can only order one drink at a time, either a 16 ounce glass of soda or a 10 ounce glass of juice. Soda choices include Pepsi products. For juices, cruisers have the option of orange juice, cranberry juice, tomato juice, pineapple juice, and grapefruit juice.

Carnival Cruise Line Beverage Packages

Again, like the Cheers Program, this package does NOT work off the ship, even at Half Moon Cay or Princess Cays. Bottled water and specialty coffee are also not part of this package. Other exclusions include beverages sold at the gangway and room services orders.

Summary of what’s included in the Bottomless Bubbles drink package:

  • Soft Drinks/Soda (Pepsi products)
  • Juices: orange juice, cranberry juice, tomato juice, pineapple juice and grapefruit juice

Carnival Drink Prices

Below are a list of the sample drink prices on Carnival Cruise Line. You can also check out our bar menus from a recent Carnival Celebration cruise to determine the cost of your favorite beverages.

  • Beer: starting at $6.50
  • Wine by the glass: starting at $9.50
  • Mixed Drinks: $7.50 – $20.00
  • Specialty Cocktails: starting at $10.50
  • Soft Drinks: $2.75
  • Specialty Coffees: $2.50 – $4.25
  • Energy Drinks: $4.95
  • Water: $1.50 – $5.00

Is the Carnival Drink Package Worth It?

This brings us back to the original question, are Carnival drink packages a good value? Essentially, the question is whether you will consume enough beverages to make the purchase “worth it.”

Below are the average costs of the different beverages within each category. Using this chart, you can do the quick math to see if you would routinely hit the daily drink costs of the above packages.

Ultimately, you need to know your own habits to determine if the drink packages on Carnival will be a good value during your cruise.

Other considerations include the length of the cruise and how many ports of call are on the itinerary.

For instance, will you be able to sustain the same drinking pattern over the course of a 10-day or 14-day cruise? If your cruise is port intensive, will you be on the ship enough to make good use of your Carnival drink package?

Carnival Celebration Bars

The drink packages on Carnival certainly do offer convenience, as you never have to worry about the bar tab at the end of the cruise! They also make your cruise feel more all-inclusive.

While we don’t go overboard with alcoholic drinks, we do consume plenty of bottled water, specialty coffee, Vitamin Water/Powerade, and the occasional soda. Combining our alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink purchases, we usually recognize a cost savings with the beverage package.

Other Considerations

Of course, if you wish to forego a beverage package, you can always pay a la carte for your drinks purchased on the ship. You can also purchase items, such as packs of bottled water, pre-cruise via your cruise planner to be delivered to your stateroom.

Further, on embarkation day, guests are allowed to bring onboard a maximum of 12, 12-ounce cans/cartons of non-alcoholic beverages per person in their carry-on luggage. Guests 21 years of age and older may also bring onboard one 750ml bottle of unopened wine or champagne in their carry-on.

Thanks for all of this info. My wife and I will be taking our first cruise on the Carnival Panorama in May.

I like the drink package but do not agree with the pricing structure. For instance on a five day cruise you are charged for the day you leave the ship and you must leave by 8 A.M. why are you charging for that day? In addition the first day you don’t board until lunch so half that day is gone. I think a 5 day cruise should be based on a 4 day pricing structure, a seven day cruise should be a six day pricing structure, etc.

On a 5day cruise you only use for 4 days, so why do we get charged for 5 days.

Our first cruise (4ngt/5 day) we kept a conservative tab on drink expenditures and did not buy the package. We ended up spending between $80.00 -100.00 more then the unlimited Royal Caribbean Drink Pkg. This trip booked for 21 we have bought the DP for 50% off which means we should be $180.00 ahead-roughly speaking. In our case the UDP is a great bargain.

It’s infuriating to me that Carnival does not have a non-alchoholic refreshment package like Royal Carribean. I would love to not have to pay the more expensive price for a drink package that includes alchohol that I will not be consuming! Royal carribean offers this exact package and I love it. It’s a bit more than the soda package but obviously isnt as much as the packages that include alchohol. It’s about $25 a day and you can actually use it on their private island. Come on Carribean!!

They do. It’s called “Bottomless Bubbles” and its $8.50 a day. “Enjoy ice-cold refreshments during meals, during shows, during, well… anytime you want with Bottomless Bubbles. This unlimited program lets you indulge in all-you-can-drink soda and juice for the full length of your cruise. Sweet! Bottomless Bubbles is available for purchase at the Lobby, Casino and Pool Bars. Restrictions apply.”

But the BB package does not include the mocktails, eg virgin mary. Other cruise lines offer soda, juice and mocktail packages.

oops, sorry. I meant, come on Carnival.

Is carnival “considering” allowing the Cheers package on the private island (Half Moon Cay) for 2021 cruises? We have booked the Christmas Bahamas cruise on the Dream in December 2021. BTW- can’t wait to get back cruising again!!!!

Hey we are on the same cruise . It’s our first time cruising.

Do they have non-alcoholic beer on board? If so, is it included in the Cheers package? I can’t find any info on it and I’ve been on hold for over an hour with Carnival Customer Service.

Yes. They have Buckler and O’Douls.

does carnival offer seltzers (trulys, white claw, high noon, etc…) on board?

Interesting… If I purchase the BB package (for 4nights/5days), I am losing out. I cannot board the first day until after 12pm, I cannot take advantage of my BB purchase on either private island, and the cruise is over at 8am the fifth day. Right?

This info is not correct. if there are more than one person in the cabin that wants the cheers package everyone has to purchase it. Not available for only one person. Unless the person is underage. They do this so no one will share drinks. However we all know it is all about the money.

Why wouldn’t it be “All about the money”? It’s a business, not a charity.

Well on a 5-day cruise you actually only get 4 days use of drink pkg but get charged for 5 days. Doesn’t make sense. We disembark on 5th day.

Carnival drink plan

Understanding the Basics

Alright, before we dive deep into the nitty-gritty of each drink plan, let’s take a moment to understand the foundation of these offerings on fun cruises .

Why do cruise lines, particularly Carnival, offer drink plans, and what’s in it for you as a traveler? Let’s unpack this.

Why Drink Plans Exist in the First Place

At its core, drink plans provide cruisers with both convenience and predictability.

Rather than opening up your wallet every time you fancy a mojito or a soda, a drink plan allows you to make one upfront payment, granting you access to a range of beverages throughout your cruise.

It streamlines your experience, letting you indulge without constantly thinking about the tab.

Enhancing the Cruise Experience

Imagine this: You’re lounging by the pool, the sun warming your skin, and you fancy a refreshing drink.

With a drink plan, that cocktail, soda, or mocktail is just an order away, no need to worry about the individual costs. It’s about enhancing your onboard experience, giving you the luxury to enjoy without the interruption of monetary concerns.

Economic Sense for Both Cruisers and Carnival

From the cruiser’s perspective, a drink plan can offer genuine value for money, especially if you have a decent beverage consumption habit.

Instead of paying premium prices per drink, a plan can level out costs and even offer savings. For Carnival, it ensures a steady revenue stream and aids in managing inventory and service expectations.

Not a One-Size-Fits-All

Drink plans are diverse, each catering to different needs. Whether you’re looking for alcoholic beverages, specialty coffees, or just unlimited soft drinks, there’s a plan for you.

Recognizing the differences is key to maximizing both your experience and your investment.

Port Days vs. Sea Days

Remember, your drinking habits might differ on days when the ship is docked versus days spent entirely at sea. Drink plans can be especially valuable on sea days when you’re making the most of the ship’s amenities.

In a nutshell, the essence of Carnival’s drink plans revolves around enhancing your cruise journey, allowing you to immerse fully in the relaxation and fun, sans the constant worry of costs.

Now that we’ve laid down the basics, let’s set our sights on the specifics of each Carnival drink plan. Ready to explore? Let’s dive in!

Tips for Choosing the Right Carnival Drink Plan

Hey there, cruise aficionados! With the vast ocean of drink packages that Carnival offers, you might feel a tad overwhelmed. But fear not, for we’re here to anchor your decisions to find the perfect Carnival drink plan.

Choosing the right drink plan can make your cruising experience more fluid (pun intended), cost-effective, and utterly enjoyable. Ready to set sail on this decision-making journey? Let’s dive right in.

1. Evaluate Your Drinking Habits:

  • Frequent Sipper? If you find yourself frequently reaching for a drink throughout the day, a package might offer better value.
  • Occasional Indulgence? If you’re more of an occasional drinker, the ala carte option might be more fitting.

2. Consider the Cruise Duration: The length of your cruise can influence your choice. On shorter trips, you might splurge more, making packages worthwhile. On longer voyages, you may pace yourself differently.

3. Do the Math: Break down the daily cost of the package versus the average cost of drinks you’re likely to consume. Sometimes, even if you drink just a bit above average, a package offers a clear saving.

4. Think Beyond Alcohol: Remember, it’s not just about cocktails and beers. Consider your consumption of non-alcoholic beverages like sodas, specialty coffees, bottled water, and juices.

5. Account for Port Days: On days when you’re exploring off the ship at your cruise ports , you might not use your drink package as much. Factor these days into your calculations.

cruise deck Carnival Magic

6. Check for Promotions: Carnival often runs promotions or discounts on their beverage packages. Keep an eye out for these, especially if you book in advance.

7. Factor in Convenience: Packages offer the luxury of not having to sign a bill with each order or constantly track your expenses. For many, this hassle-free experience is worth the price.

8. Weigh Family Needs: If traveling with family, especially kids, consider their beverage needs. Packages like Bottomless Bubbles can be great for younger members.

9. Don’t Forget the Fine Print: Each package comes with its terms and conditions. Some might have a drink limit per day, restrictions on sharing, or specific drink choices. Ensure you’re okay with these details.

10. Ask Around: Engage with fellow cruisers on forums like Cruise Critic or social media. Their experiences can offer insights and recommendations.

11. Stay Flexible: Remember, you’re not locked into a decision. You can often adjust or change your drink package once onboard, especially in the first day or two of the cruise.

12. Balance Budget with Experience: While being budget-conscious is wise, also consider the overall experience. Sometimes, spending a tad more provides peace of mind and enhances enjoyment.

For certain packages, like the CHEERS! package, if one adult in a cabin purchases it, all adults (21 years and older) in the same cabin must also purchase it.

Are there any daily limits on the number of drinks I can order with the CHEERS! package?

Yes, the CHEERS! package typically has a limit, which as of the last update was 15 alcoholic drinks per 24-hour period. This resets each day at 6 a.m.

Can I share my drink package with someone else?

Are there non-alcoholic options included in the CHEERS! package?

Absolutely! The CHEERS! package also includes sodas, juices, energy drinks, specialty coffees, teas, and bottled water.

I’m traveling with kids. Is the Bottomless Bubbles package suitable for them?

Definitely! Bottomless Bubbles is a non-alcoholic beverage package that includes unlimited sodas and select juices. It’s great for kids and adults alike.

How does the pricing for ala carte drinks compare to the drink packages?

Ala carte drinks are priced individually. Depending on your consumption, a drink package might offer better value. It’s a good idea to compare the cost of the package with your expected daily consumption.

Are gratuities included in the drink package price?

Typically, a set percentage of gratuity is already included in the price of Carnival’s drink packages. However, any additional gratuity for exceptional service is at your discretion.

Can I switch between Carnival drink plans during the cruise?

Generally, changes can be made during the first day or two of the cruise. After that, modifications might not be allowed. It’s best to check with the guest services once on board.

Are there any exclusions or drinks not covered by the drink packages?

Yes, each package has its terms and conditions. For instance, the CHEERS! package may exclude beverages priced over a certain limit, and it might not cover drinks from the mini-bar or room service.

I don’t drink alcohol. Is there a package tailored to my needs?

Absolutely! Carnival offers packages like the Bottomless Bubbles for unlimited sodas and juices, as well as the Specialty Coffee & More Plan for coffee enthusiasts.

I’m considering the Specialty Coffee & More Plan. Is it available on all ships?

Most of Carnival’s fleet offers this package. However, availability might vary. It’s wise to check the specifics for your ship before purchase.

Are drink packages refundable if I change my mind?

If you’ve pre-purchased a package and wish to cancel, there is usually a window (e.g., 48 hours) before your cruise’s departure to do so for a full refund. Once onboard, the terms might vary, so always check with guest services.

Are Carnival drink plans available for purchase on the day of boarding?

Yes! While you can pre-purchase drink packages prior to your cruise, they are also available for purchase on boarding day and often for the first day or two once you’re onboard.

Can I use my drink package on Carnival’s private islands or ports of call?

Generally, the CHEERS! package can be used on Carnival’s private islands, like Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays. However, it’s not valid at other ports of call. Always check specifics for your itinerary.

Do drink packages cover tasting events, like wine tastings?

No, special events or tasting sessions usually have separate charges and aren’t covered under the regular drink packages.

I’m a part of the VIFP (Very Important Fun Person) Club. Are there any exclusive drink offers or discounts for members?

The benefits for VIFP members may vary, and while they receive various perks, exclusive drink offers are not typically a standard benefit. However, it’s always good to check any promotional material or communications in case there are limited-time offers.

What happens if I reach my daily alcoholic drink limit on the CHEERS! package?

Once you’ve reached your daily limit, you won’t be able to get any more alcoholic drinks as part of the package that day. However, you can still purchase additional drinks ala carte.

Are drink packages available on all Carnival cruise durations?

Mostly, yes. However, on certain short-duration cruises (like 2-day cruises), the availability of certain packages might differ. Always check before booking.

Do the drink packages cover drinks at specialty dining venues onboard?

Yes, if you have a drink package like CHEERS!, you can use it at the onboard specialty dining venues. However, there might be exceptions or exclusions for certain high-end drinks or bottles.

Can I buy a drink package as a gift for someone else cruising?

Absolutely! You can purchase a drink package as a gift for someone else. Ensure you have their booking details, and you can make the purchase through the Carnival website or over the phone.

What happens if I don’t use all the benefits of my Carnival drink plan during the cruise?

Drink packages are sold as an all-inclusive deal, and there isn’t a refund for unused benefits. It’s essential to gauge your likely consumption and choose the best value package for your needs.

Are mocktails and virgin versions of cocktails included in the drink packages?

Yes, most drink packages, including CHEERS!, cover non-alcoholic beverages, which means you can enjoy mocktails and virgin versions of popular cocktails without any additional charges.

Can I bring my drinks from the ship to the ports of call or vice versa?

Typically, guests aren’t allowed to bring drinks from the ship to the ports or from the ports back to the ship. There are specific policies about bringing alcohol onboard, which usually requires it to be checked and returned at the end of the cruise.

Are drink packages prorated if purchased partway through the cruise?

Yes! If you decide to purchase a Carnival drink plan partway through your cruise, you’ll typically pay the daily price.

Choosing the right drink package is a mix of understanding your personal preferences, doing a little math, and considering the added convenience.

Carnival Cruise Line Drink Packages: The Ultimate Guide (2023)

Carnival Cruise Line Drink Packages: The Ultimate Guide (2023)

Mainstream cruise lines, including Carnival , don’t offer many complimentary drink options on the ship. So for many cruisers, the bar bill ends up being a large portion of their vacation budget. If you’re cruising on Carnival, a Carnival Cruise Line drink package lets you pre-plan your drink budget so you’re not hit with a huge bar tab at the end of your cruise!

carnival cruise drink package on board

Carnival offers drink packages for all ages, at various price points. But is a Carnival beverage package worth it? I’ll help you decide if you should buy one and which drink package is right for you .

Carnival last updated its beverage package pricing in May 2022, and also made some small changes to the program in 2023. I’ll explain what each package currently includes and how much it will cost for your cruise.

Carnival Cruise Line drink packages available for 2023 and beyond

Although Carnival offers a small selection of complimentary beverages around the clock (tap water, non-specialty coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate, lemonade or juice drinks, and iced tea), you might want to expand your drink options without having to pay each time you order.

Unlike some cruise lines that offer a wide range of drink packages, Carnival makes their prepaid beverage packages simple. There are only two options: one for soft drinks only, and one for both alcohol and soft drinks.

Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles

Bottomless Bubbles is Carnival’s prepaid soda package, available for both children and adults. This option includes all-you-can-drink fountain soda, sparkling water, and fruit juices.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The cost for Bottomless Bubbles is $6.95 per day for children under 18, and $9.50 per day for adults age 18 and up. An 18% gratuity is added to the price at the time of package purchase.

Back in January 2020, Carnival began the switch from serving Coke products to Pepsi products. Today, all of Carnival’s fleet exclusively serves Pepsi products.

Tip: If you’re a die-hard Coke fan, you can always carry on a limited amount of your favorite Coke products in cans. Learn more in How to Bring Your Own Drinks on a Cruise .

Carnival’s Pepsi lineup is as follows:

  • Pepsi Zero Sugar
  • Caffeine Free Pepsi
  • Diet Pepsi Caffeine Free
  • Sierra Mist
  • Sierra Mist Zero Sugar
  • Mug Root Beer
  • Mountain Dew
  • Diet Mountain Dew
  • Bubly Sparkling Water (Lime, Grapefruit, or Orange)

Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper are also usually added to the list for cruises departing the ports of Galveston and New Orleans.

Tip: You can also buy a reusable Carnival soft drink tumbler for $5.95 with Bottomless Bubbles ($9.95 without the program). Consider waiting to buy your soft drink tumbler once the ship is in international waters to avoid paying sales tax at the embarkation port.

Fruit juice options include:

  • Orange Juice
  • Cranberry Juice
  • Tomato Juice
  • Pineapple Juice
  • Grapefruit Juice

For a 7-day cruise, Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles drink package would cost $57.41 for a child and $78.47 for an adult, including gratuities.

Note: Bottomless Bubbles is not always available on European itineraries.

Carnival’s CHEERS! Beverage Program

CHEERS! is Carnival Cruise Line’s all-inclusive beverage package. Available for guests age 21 and over, CHEERS! includes a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, mocktails, and an expanded range of non-alcoholic drinks compared to Bottomless Bubbles.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The cost for CHEERS! when you pre-purchase before your cruise is $59.95 per person, per day, plus an 18% gratuity.

If you purchase CHEERS! on board, the cost is $64.95 per person, per day, plus an 18% gratuity.

Carnival’s CHEERS! package includes:

  • All cocktails, spirits, and beer and wine by the glass with a menu price of $20.00 or lower
  • Soda, mocktails, energy drinks, specialty coffees and teas, 500ml bottled water, and other non-alcoholic bottled beverages
  • Self-service beer stations
  • Large bottles of water in the dining rooms and specialty restaurants

CHEERS! also includes all soft drinks in the Bottomless Bubbles package plus:

  • Pure Leaf Unsweetened Black Tea
  • Pure Leaf Sweet Tea
  • Gatorade (Lemon-Lime or Fruit Punch)
  • Propel (Berry, Grape, or Kiwi Strawberry)
  • Starbucks Frappuccino
  • Starbucks Double Shot Espresso

Guests with the CHEERS! package also are eligible for a 25% discount off spirits or wine by the glass above $20.00, wine and champagne by the bottle, and beverage seminars and classes.

For a 7-day cruise, Carnival’s CHEERS! drink package would cost $495.19 if you pre-purchase it, and $536.49 if you buy it on board (I’ve included gratuities in this calculation.)

FAQ about Carnival Cruise Line drink packages

If you’ve never cruised with Carnival before, or it’s been a while since your last cruise, you probably have some general questions about how the Carnival Cruise Line drink packages work.

I’ll answer the most common ones here. If you have a question that I haven’t answered, just drop it in the comments and I’ll be happy to answer it.

Do you need to tip for drinks purchased with a Carnival beverage package?

All Carnival drink packages have an extra 18% gratuity on top of the list price. So, you won’t need to tip your bartender or server each time you order a drink with your beverage package – you’ve already pre-paid your tips.

However, you can always add an extra tip for your favorite bartenders, if you choose.

Do you need to pay tax on your drinks?

When you’re out at sea in international waters, you don’t need to worry about paying tax on any of your drinks. But when you’re in port, some local authorities require cruise lines to collect tax on the menu price of any beverages you buy.

Taxes will be charged to your on board account if you buy drinks one-by-one or use a beverage package.

The tax percentage varies by port, but it’s never a huge amount—generally somewhere between 5-10% of the cost of each drink. If a jurisdiction charges tax, it will be charged on each drink when the ship is in port and in its territorial waters.

Do Carnival drink packages work on their private islands?

Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles and CHEERS! packages can’t be used to order beverages on the private islands of Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays .

How old do you have to be to buy an alcoholic beverage package on Carnival?

You must be age 21 or over to purchase or use the CHEERS! package on all Carnival cruises, regardless of the legal drinking age at any ports you might visit.

For those turning 21 during the cruise, you’ll be able to purchase alcohol à la carte with a valid ID starting on your birthday. You won’t be able to purchase a CHEERS! package in the middle of the cruise.

Can you share your Carnival beverage package with another guest?

Carnival issues a sticker for each guest that purchases a beverage package, and the sticker goes on your Sail & Sign card. Only one beverage per sticker will be served at a time.

Carnival (like most other cruise lines today) requires that if one person buys the CHEERS! package, every person 21 and older in the same stateroom must also purchase the package. Cruise lines have implemented this policy to crack down on beverage package sharing.

Many cruise lines will waive this requirement if you don’t drink because of pregnancy, a medical condition, religious beliefs, or if you’re in recovery from substance use disorder. However, Carnival is known to be very strict with this policy. You can try reaching out to Carnival to ask for an exemption, but it’s not very likely that they’ll budge.

How do you buy a Carnival Cruise Line drink package?

Before your cruise, you can pre-purchase Bottomless Bubbles or CHEERS! online at www.carnival.com/Funshops or by calling (800) 522-7648. The cut-off time for online pre-purchase is 11:59 PM EST the day before embarkation. The call center closes at 9:00 PM EST, so their cut-off time is a bit earlier.

Both packages will also be available for purchase on the ship on embarkation day and the first full cruise day. You can get Bottomless Bubbles at the lobby, casino, and pool bars.

Tables will be set up around the ship on embarkation day and the next day where you can buy the CHEERS! package.

Can you buy a Carnival drink package for certain days of the cruise?

It would be nice to pick and choose which days you have a drink package (like sea days only, please!), but once you buy a package you need to buy it for each remaining day of your cruise. Take this into consideration if you have a lot of longer shore excursions when you won’t be on the ship to use the package.

In order to minimize your costs, consider waiting until the second day of your cruise to buy a beverage package. You’ll just need to pay for any drinks you consume on embarkation day.

But, remember that you save 10% if you pre-order the CHEERS! package before your cruise. Do the math to see which option saves more money for your situation.

Does Carnival ever offer a free drink package?

Outside of comped cruises through the casino, I’ve never seen Carnival offer a free beverage package as a perk for booking a cruise. That’s not to say it will never happen, but it’s pretty unlikely. Carnival’s business model is to keep prices low, and for guests to pay for any extras on an à la carte basis.

If you’re looking for a low-priced cruise line that offers free drink packages very consistently, Norwegian is your best bet. Or, if your budget is a bit higher, consider an all-inclusive cruise.

How much are drinks on a Carnival cruise if you buy them individually?

If you’re considering buying a drink package for your first Carnival cruise, you’re probably wondering what the menu prices are if you buy drinks individually.

Here are typical menu prices for a variety of drinks on Carnival:

  • Beer: $6 – $8 per glass
  • Wine $8 – $14 per glass
  • Mixed drinks: $7 – $20
  • Soft drinks: $2.50
  • Specialty soft drinks: $2 – $5
  • Bottled water: $1.25 – $5

Is there a limit to how many drinks you can get per day with a Carnival beverage package?

You’re allowed to drink an unlimited amount of non-alcoholic drinks with both Bottomless Bubbles and the CHEERS! package. (You do need to wait five minutes between drink orders, except if you’re ordering bottled water along with your drink.)

However, you can only have 15 alcoholic drinks per day. That sounds like a lot, but lots of cruisers can (and do!) reach that cap. Bartenders and servers track drink orders on their POS system, so you can always ask how many drinks you’re up to if you lose track!

Once you hit the 15 drinks, you’re not allowed to order more alcohol, even if you try to pay out of pocket. The 24-hour period resets every morning at 6 AM.

Are there any restrictions on where you can use a Carnival drink package?

You can use your Carnival drink package for onboard purchases only. When you’re in port, you can’t use the package off the ship, even on a Carnival-sponsored shore excursion.

Carnival Cruise Line drink packages also don’t apply to drinks ordered through room service or the Interactive TV system, or for beverages from your stateroom’s minibar.

The CHEERS! package also can’t be used for the following alcoholic drinks:

  • Drinks in souvenir glasses (but you can ask for the same drink in a regular glass)
  • Bottles of liquor
  • Drinks offered at the gangway
  • Cocktails meant for sharing
  • Floaters, pitchers, tubes, or buckets
  • Wines from the enomatic wine machines

If your cruise departs from Galveston or New York, the CHEERS! package doesn’t go into effect until 6 AM on the second day of the sailing.

Is it worth it to get a drink package on a Carnival cruise?

When deciding if it’s worth it to buy a drink package on Carnival, it all depends on how much you think you’ll be drinking. If you’re sure you’ll only have a couple of drinks each day, it’s a far better deal to just pay as you go.

For the average cruiser, five alcoholic drinks per day is about where the break-even point is for the CHEERS! package. If you like to drink higher-end wines or spirits, your break-even point could be lower. Remember, the package includes drinks that normally cost up to $20 each!

Your soft drinks, bottled water, and specialty coffees are also included, so factor those costs into your decision as well. Those little purchases can add up over the length of your cruise.

But if you have a cabin-mate who doesn’t drink much, it might not be worth having to buy an expensive package for someone who won’t get their money’s worth.

If you’re a soda drinker, Bottomless Bubbles can be a money-saver. Know you’ll have at least three soft drinks each day? Then it really makes sense to buy this package.

Hi Karen, Carnival holds very firm to their drink package policy, and very rarely makes exceptions. Your best bet is to reach out to Guest Access at 1-800-438-6744 x 70025 and explain the situation. Hope this helps!

Wednesday 19th of May 2021

Hi Tammy, great question! Beverage packages are charged to individual passengers, so you won't be forced to pay a double charge if you're a solo traveler in a double-occupancy stateroom. You'll only need to pay for a single CHEERS! package. Happy sailing!

Thank you for a very informative article. Just wondering how Cheers compares to pre-purchasing and having a liter (or two) delivered to the cabin. Also, where could I find a list of higher end spirits available?

Friday 4th of September 2020

Hi Sean, great question! It's definitely cheaper to pre-purchase a bottle, especially if you're drinking basic mixed drinks with one shot and a mixer. If a liter of liquor has 22 shots, and it costs $50-100 per bottle, you can definitely save money. I've never gone this route myself, because I don't spend much time in the stateroom and it's way more convenient to grab a drink from a bar. (You could make yourself a drink in your room and walk around the ship with it, but you'd have to go back to the room each time.) For a list of spirits that Carnival offers, go to https://www.carnival.com/in-room-food-beverages and click on "liquor" on the left. Happy cruising!

Hi Great article and some really good tips but I did read somewhere drinks packages are not available in Europe - Is that correct?

Hi Ally, I'm so glad you liked the tips! I reached out to Carnival just to make sure that nothing has changed. They told me that yes, the Cheers! package is available on European itineraries. I believe that at one point the package couldn't be sold in Europe, so you may have read an article somewhere with that older information. Happy cruising!

Jen, it definitely is! Most cruise lines also sell a similar package (Disney Cruise Line is one of the majors that doesn't). Also, many luxury cruise lines include cocktails, wine and beer in the cruise fare. (My post Which Cruise Lines Are All-Inclusive? covers which luxury lines do and don't include alcohol.) Packages are a great way to save some money and remove the stress of a bar bill at the end of your vacation.

Cool Cruiser

Does Carnival ever offer a discount on the drink package onboard? I am debating on getting it but am still trying to figure out if it will be worth it or not.

I believe it's actually 10% MORE expensive on board.

The only time I've ever seen the drink package "discounted" was when it was offered as a package with the cruise rate, either an RU0, RU1, RU2 etc. rate.  And I haven't seen any of those offers in quite a while.

Never!  But save 10% over the on-board price by buying prior to your cruise.

Other than the 10% "discount" by purchasing it before sailing, this.

I've got one of these offers right now, but I just can't sail when it would be valid.  So there is  some hope of it appearing.

I bought it twice and maybe they know I only ordered a drink or two a day. I get cheers and wifi non stop. It ends and is replaced. Lol in fact the wifi offer is more per days than the cheers rate. They know I'm not a big drinker?

Never say never...IIRC, there was one time, maybe right when the industry thought the pandemic pause was going to end after just a few months (but they were wrong, oh so wrong), when it was on special?

But that special rate evaporated along with the bookings when the pause kept going, and going...

And those special drinks-included rates that certain cruisers were offered right at the start-up.

But in general, "never" is a pretty good approximation!

CruizinSusan70

OP....either buy it beforehand with the 10% discount or punt.  You get up to 15 alcoholic drinks per day plus unlimited non alcoholic drinks.

OP - and even then, it might not be the best deal.  I've paid for my cabin and Cheers separately because it was cheaper than their "free" Cheers offer.

Or cruise NCL.  They are always "giving" away drink packages.   🤣

Where "free" is expensive. No thanks, free is often a scam, I prefer "included", nothing is free, well, except advice.  😁

46 Carnival Cruises and Sept will be 1st Cheers package!  Only because I got the special deal with my booking and it was literally less than $200 more total for 2 of us... and hubby's bottomless bubbles costs 1/3 of that much difference.  Then add in the occasional drink I do get, and the milkshakes and coffees and it was totally worth it.

I simply could not in a million years drink that much to cover normal prices.  I would spend the entire cruise passed out on the floor.  Have younger brother and girlfriend and mom and dad coming this time, and figure we will be "partying" a bit more with the younger group so figured a few more drinks and they will be free to me.  Especially when one drink is $15 now, and one milkshake was like $7 almost!  OMG!

20 bucks per day on NCL to cover tips, versus 70 bucks per day on Carnival.

We also are getting cheers for the first time since Carnival offered the cheers to you for our upcoming cruise.

It's the first time I've seen them offer a discounted drinks rate with a booking and if we bought 2 decent drinks per day without the rate it would be the same cost.

I think the cheers package is over priced in its normal state and would not buy it on its own.

Talking of NCL, we got a great rate with them that included drinks and alsorts. Loved it.

They have resurrected the RU1, RU2 and RU3 rates as target marketing to spur sales to those cruisers that have never purchased Cheers in the past.  It sucks for those who pay the regular rate, but when you buy it for all of your future Carnival sailings before the price increase from a few months ago, combined with the 10% pre-cruise rate  and then combine it with 10% off gift cards, it makes it a bit more palatable.

Here's a tip for you.  Go to Java cafe and get a double espresso.  Then go to the Alchemy Bar and have them turn it into two espresso martini's you can enjoy before dinner.

Oh I can't have too much caffeine! Unless they do good decaf?

Might put rum in my milkshakes. 😄

The newer ships in the fleet have spiked milkshakes on the java menu.  And I belief they can do decaf espresso.

Yeah we had them on the Vista

Could I please add a question to CHEERS topic... I have a final payment due on Aug 12 next week, to get the discount, do i have to add that and pay everything by that date... Or could I add it later, thanks

You don't need to add it before final payment, you can add it later.

Things to Know Before You Cruise

Carnival Cruise Drink Packages: Cheers Or Bubbles? Plan Now For 2023 Sailings!

Ahoy, matey! Are you ready for a cruise adventure with Carnival Cruise and looking for info on Carnival Cruise Drink Packages? If you’re like me, you want to make the most of your vacation and indulge in all the food and drinks the ship has to offer. That’s where the Carnival Cruise drink packages come in handy. But with two options to choose from, Cheers and Bottomless Bubbles, it can be tough to decide which one is right for you.

Well, I’m here to help you navigate through the sea of options and figure out which drink package will give you the most value and freedom on your voyage. As someone who has sailed with Carnival Cruise multiple times, I’ve tried both drink packages and have some insider knowledge to share with you.

Whether you’re a cocktail connoisseur or just looking for something to quench your thirst, we’ll explore the inclusions and restrictions of each package, the prices, and even a value calculator to help you make an informed decision. Plus, I’ll let you in on some free drink options and the refund policy in case you change your mind.

So, grab a drink (or two!) and let’s set sail on this journey to find the best drink package for you.

  • Carnival offers two drink packages: Cheers and Bottomless Bubbles
  • The Cheers package includes almost all drinks up to $20 and gives a 25% discount on drinks priced above $20, bottles of wine and champagne, and drinks classes and seminars
  • Carnival’s Cheers drink package limits guests to 15 alcoholic drinks per day
  • The Bottomless Bubbles package includes only sodas and juices

Carnival Cruise Drink Packages

Types of Carnival Cruise Drink Packages

I’m learning about the types of packages available for Carnival cruises, including the Cheers and Bottomless Bubbles options.

The Cheers package is the more comprehensive of the two, offering unlimited access to almost all drinks up to $20, as well as discounts on drinks priced above that amount, bottles of wine and champagne, and drink classes and seminars. However, it does have some limitations, including a daily limit of 15 alcoholic beverages, and exclusions for certain types of drinks, such as those in souvenir glasses or purchased off the ship.

In contrast, the Bottomless Bubbles package only includes soda and juice, but it is significantly cheaper and does not have any daily limits.

To choose the right package, it’s important to compare the benefits and limitations of each and consider your own drinking habits and preferences. If you plan to indulge in more than five alcoholic drinks per day, the Cheers package may be worth the investment. However, if you prefer non-alcoholic beverages or only plan to have a few drinks, the Bottomless Bubbles package may be the better option.

Inclusions and Restrictions

It’s amazing how many drinks aren’t included in the package, even though it’s supposed to be ‘bottomless’ bubbles.

While the Bottomless Bubbles package offers unlimited soda and juice, it doesn’t include alternative drink options like coffee or Gatorade. Additionally, non-alcoholic beverages other than soda and juice are not included either, such as bottled water or hot drinks.

On the other hand, the Cheers package comes with a wider range of drink package benefits, including almost all drinks up to $20 and a 25% discount on drinks priced above $20, bottles of wine and champagne, and drink classes and seminars. However, it’s important to note that the package has restrictions, such as not including drinks in souvenir glasses, bottles of liquor, or drinks purchased off the ship, including on private islands.

Overall, while both packages offer benefits, it’s important to consider alternative drink options and restrictions before making a decision.

Drink Prices

Looking at the average cost of beverages, I can see that cocktails on Carnival cruise ships range from $10.50 to $12.50, while beer costs between $7.00 and $8.50 for a 16oz serving.

Wine by the glass is priced between $9.50 and $14.00, and spirit and mixer drinks range from $7.50 to $15.00.

Soft drinks are priced at $2.75, while specialty coffee and energy drinks cost between $2.50 and $4.95, respectively.

Smoothies are priced at $6.50, and bottled water costs between $1.50 and $3.95.

When budgeting for drinks while on a Carnival cruise, it’s important to keep in mind that the cost of beverages can add up quickly.

Comparing drink prices between Carnival and other cruise lines can also help in deciding which cruise line to choose.

It’s important to consider factors such as the types of drinks included in drink packages and any restrictions that may apply.

Ultimately, it’s up to each individual to decide if purchasing a drink package or paying for drinks individually throughout the cruise is the better option for their budget and drinking habits.

Value Calculator

Calculating the value of purchasing a beverage package can be helpful in deciding if it’s worth it for me to pre-purchase or buy drinks individually on my upcoming Carnival cruise. To determine which package is worth it, I plan to use Carnival’s drink package calculator which compares the cost of purchasing drinks individually versus purchasing a package. The calculator considers factors such as the type of drinks I’ll be consuming, the number of drinks per day, and the length of the cruise.

Comparing drink package costs can help me save money and avoid overspending on drinks. The table below shows an example of how the Cheers package can be worth it for someone who drinks five alcoholic drinks per day, while the Bottomless Bubbles package can be worth it for someone who drinks four sodas or juices per day. However, there are factors to consider when deciding on a package, such as the cost of drinks on the ship, the length of the cruise, and the type of drinks I’ll be consuming. Ultimately, I’ll need to weigh the pros and cons and decide which package, if any, is right for me.

Free Drink Options

I’m excited to learn about the free drink options available on my upcoming Carnival cruise. While the Cheers and Bottomless Bubbles packages offer great value for those who plan on drinking a lot of soda or alcohol, it’s good to know that there are also free drink options available on the ship.

Here are some of the options I can enjoy without having to pay extra:

  • Water: Staying hydrated is important, especially on a cruise where the sun can be intense and dehydration is a risk. Drinking plenty of water can help prevent headaches, fatigue, and other symptoms of dehydration. Luckily, Carnival provides free drinking water on their ships, so I can stay hydrated without worrying about the cost.
  • Lemonade and Fruit Juice: If I’m looking for something more flavorful than water, I can also enjoy free lemonade and fruit juice on the ship. These drinks can be a great alternative to soda or juice for those who want something sweet and refreshing without the added sugar.
  • Coffee and Tea: For those who need a caffeine fix in the morning, Carnival provides free coffee and tea. I can start my day with a hot cup of coffee or tea without having to pay extra. Plus, there are plenty of options to choose from, including decaf and herbal tea.

Overall, there are plenty of free drink options available on my upcoming Carnival cruise. By taking advantage of these options, I can stay hydrated and refreshed without having to spend extra money on drinks. Plus, I can enjoy a variety of flavors and options without having to stick to soda or juice. Benefits of hydration and alternatives to soda and juice are important to consider, and I’m glad Carnival offers free drinks to help me stay on track.

Alcohol Limits

When it comes to drinking on my Carnival cruise, I need to be mindful of the alcohol limits set by the Cheers package. The package includes up to 15 alcoholic drinks per day, which may seem like a lot, but it’s important to remember that drinking culture can vary from person to person.

It’s crucial to listen to your body and make health considerations while enjoying your drinks. While the Cheers package is a great way to save money on drinks, it’s important to be responsible and not exceed your limits.

It’s also worth noting that the package does not include drinks in souvenir glasses, bottles of liquor, and certain other types of drinks. If you plan on drinking more than 15 alcoholic beverages per day, it may be worth considering purchasing individual drinks or opting for the Bottomless Bubbles package instead.

Ultimately, it’s up to personal preference and being mindful of your own drinking habits.

Purchase Options

Now that we know about the alcohol limits of the Carnival drink packages, let’s talk about the different purchase options. When it comes to buying a drink package, there are a few things to consider.

Firstly, if you plan to drink alcoholic beverages frequently throughout your cruise, purchasing a drink package can save you money in the long run. Secondly, it’s important to note that pre-purchasing the package can save you $5 per day compared to buying it on board. And finally, it’s worth comparing the drink package with the cost of individual drinks to determine which option is best for you.

Here are some benefits of pre-purchasing a drink package on Carnival and how they compare with other cruise lines:

  • Pre-purchasing a drink package on Carnival saves you money compared to buying it on board.
  • Unlike some other cruise lines, the Carnival drink package includes almost all drinks up to $20, including bottled water and wine by the glass.
  • Carnival’s drink package limits guests to 15 alcoholic drinks per day, which is higher than some other cruise lines.
  • Carnival offers a drink package calculator to help guests determine whether purchasing a package is worth it for them.

When it comes to purchasing a drink package, it’s important to do your research and compare the options available. By pre-purchasing a drink package on Carnival, you can save money and enjoy a wide variety of beverages while on board.

Refund Policy

To receive a refund for the drink package, it’s important to note that the package must be canceled by 9 pm ET on the evening before departure. This gives guests the opportunity to change their mind and opt out of the package if they decide it’s not worth it for them.

The cancellation process is straightforward and can be done by contacting Carnival’s Guest Services or online through the Manage My Booking portal. If you cancel before the deadline, you’ll receive a full refund of the package price.

However, if you cancel after the deadline, you won’t be able to receive a refund and will be charged the full package price. It’s important to keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase a drink package and to make sure you cancel before the deadline if you change your mind.

Overall, Carnival’s refund policy for drink packages is reasonable and gives guests the flexibility to change their plans without being penalized.

Bringing Your Own Drinks

Well, look at me, trying to be all sneaky and bring my own drinks on board like some kind of rebellious teenager. But hey, sometimes you just want to enjoy your favorite wine or soda without having to pay extra for it.

Before you start packing your cooler, there are a few things you should know about bringing your own drinks on a Carnival cruise.

First of all, make sure you check the customs regulations for the ports you’ll be visiting. Some countries have strict rules about bringing alcohol or other beverages into their territory, and you don’t want to end up with a hefty fine or worse.

Secondly, keep in mind that there is a corkage fee of $15 per bottle if you wish to drink your own wine or champagne in a bar or restaurant. So if you’re planning to bring a few bottles, factor in this cost as well.

Overall, bringing your own drinks can be a good way to save money, but make sure you do it in a smart and legal way.

Other Information

I found it interesting to learn about the customs regulations and corkage fees associated with bringing your own drinks on a Carnival cruise. As a seasoned cruiser, I know that it’s tempting to bring your favorite beverages on board to save money, but it’s important to be aware of the rules.

According to Carnival’s policy, each adult is allowed to bring one 750ml bottle of wine or champagne and 12 cans or cartons of non-alcoholic beverages such as water, soda, energy drinks, juice, or milk on board. However, there’s a corkage fee of $15 per bottle if you wish to drink your own wine in a bar or restaurant.

In addition to the corkage fee, it’s important to note that Carnival’s ships serve Pepsi products, not Coke. So if you’re a die-hard Coke fan, you may want to bring your own supply on board.

On the bright side, if you’re a gambler, you can earn casino points that can be redeemed for free drinks while playing. And if you’re looking to save money on drinks overall, be sure to check out Carnival’s new cruise offers and consider purchasing the Cheers package or using onboard credit to do so.

It’s important to be aware of the limitations of the unlimited soda package offered by Carnival. While it’s a great value for those who enjoy drinking soda and juice, it doesn’t include non-alcoholic beverages other than those two options. This means that if you’re looking for coffee or bottled water, you’ll need to purchase those separately or consider upgrading to the Cheers drink package.

To help you weigh the pros and cons of each package, I’ve created a table below. This is based on my personal experience and may vary depending on your individual drinking habits, but it should give you a good idea of what to expect. Remember, the key to maximizing your value with either package is to ensure you’re drinking enough to make it worth the cost. Happy cruising!

Can you purchase a drink package for only a portion of the cruise?

Looking for partial drink package options? Unfortunately, Carnival requires the package to be purchased for the entire cruise, except for NY or Texas departures. Pre-purchasing saves $5 per day compared to onboard pricing.

Are there any restrictions on the number of alcoholic drinks per day for the Bottomless Bubbles package?

The Bottomless Bubbles package includes unlimited soda and juice, but there are no restrictions on the number of alcoholic drinks per day. However, it may be more cost-effective to consider alternative non-alcoholic packages or individual drink purchases.

Can you use onboard credit to purchase the Bottomless Bubbles package?

Yes, onboard credit can be used to purchase the Bottomless Bubbles package on Carnival cruises. However, it cannot be used for the Cheers package or specialty dining. Onboard credit can also be used for excursion options.

Are there any restrictions on bringing non-alcoholic beverages on board?

Looking to bring non-alcoholic beverages on your Carnival cruise? Alternatives to bringing your own include purchasing the Bottomless Bubbles package, which offers unlimited soda and juice, or ordering free drinks like water, lemonade, and coffee. Benefits of non-alcoholic drink packages include convenience and cost savings.

Is there a limit to how many drinks can be purchased with onboard credit?

I learned that Carnival Cruise allows me to use onboard credit to purchase unlimited drinks, but there are alcohol limits to be aware of. Understanding the rules for drink packages is important for maximizing my experience and freedom on the ship.

Carnival Cruise Line 2024 Drink Menus and Pricing

Last Updated on March 10, 2024

In the past, embarking on a cruise meant encountering the same routine selection of beverages across all venues. Your options typically included classics like daiquiris, pina coladas, and, if the menu dared to be bold, perhaps a mojito. Today, the drink landscape has undergone a significant transformation. Cruise ship bars now boast a diverse array of choices, featuring craft beers, premium spirits, and meticulously concocted cocktails. It’s an entirely new experience.

Carnival Cruise Line, in particular, has taken this evolution to heart, revolutionizing its drink offerings with a tailored menu for almost every bar on their ships. This accomplishment is noteworthy, especially when considering that a single ship can host between 10 and 15 bars.

Carnival will be increasing drink menu prices in the first part of 2024. The new menus are already in place on the Carnival Jubilee and we expect other ships to follow in January and February.

See a new menu on your ship? Email it to us so we can share with everyone, [email protected]

Below you’ll find the bar menus found on the Carnival Cruise Line’s ships. Carnival has a pretty robust beverage program and usually has different drinks available at nearly every bar on a ship, so you’ll see a ton of drink options below. For drinks offered at multiple venues, the prices are consistent (i.e., a Coors Light and the Atrium Bar will cost the same as a Coors Light at the Pool Bar). When looking at the prices, remember to consider gratuities. Carnival automatically adds an 18% gratuity added to all beverage purchases.

It’s located outside the new specialty restaurant and around the corner from the Gondola Lounge (Ocean Plaza on Vista-class ships). It offers bubbles, spritzes, and draft beers. Throughout the day, it also offer specialty coffees and biscotti.

carnival frizzante bar menu page 1

This bar may be confusing because Carnival uses odd naming for their venues. While many ships have “Guy’s Pig & Anchor BBQ,” few have the actual Smokehouse and Brewhouse, which has cocktails. The Smokehouse/Brewhouse is a sit-down restaurant with a large bar serving some great cocktails. They even have a brewery right inside this bar where they make their own beer! You can find it on the  Carnival Celebration ,  Carnival Horizon , Carnival Jubilee ,  Carnival Mardi Gras , and  Carnival Panorama .

Carnival Legend

Carnival Cruise Line announced that it will not be able to provide its drink packages on the first day of Carnival Legend’s sailing that departed on March 31, 2024 from Nofolk, according to a company statement.

Carnival informed its guests of the change via a statement on its website stating that the Cheers package begins on Day 2 for ships sailing from Texas, Norfolk and New York and that activation will occur at 6:00 a.m. on the second day of the cruise.

The Legend embarked on its seven-night Eastern Caribbean voyage from Norfolk after temporarily relocating there due to the bridge collapse in Baltimore.

Carnival’s Cheers program offers unlimited water, soda, juice and specialty coffee as well as 15 alcoholic beverages for $59.95 per day on sailings of six days or more when purchased in advance.

Carnival Jubilee ship review: A guide to Carnival's third Excel Class cruise ship

Ashley Kosciolek

Editor's Note

When Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Jubilee debuted in December 2023, it became the third ship in the line's Excel Class , closely mimicking sister ships Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. Although there are more similarities than differences among the three, Carnival has still found a way to make Carnival Jubilee innovative and fun by tweaking a few of the offerings.

The ship shares Carnival's "zone" concept with its two older sisters, meaning it has dedicated areas for dining, drinking, entertainment and outdoor fun, including Bolt, a top-deck roller coaster. The biggest differences on the newest iteration are in two reinvented zones, Currents and The Shores; respectively, they take the place of The French Quarter and La Piazza on Mardi Gras , and The Gateway and 820 Biscayne on Carnival Celebration .

carnival cruise drink package on board

On my voyage, the ship carried 5,676 passengers, plus crew. This meant it wasn't at capacity, but it still felt loud and crowded, and often was fraught with lines. However, the service was generally excellent, with an exceedingly friendly crew.

The vessel is also a ton of fun, featuring two new shows (one with a football tailgate theme and the other with an onboard wedding plot), plenty of daily activities and so many fantastic dining options — many of them free — that it'll make your head spin.

Here's the rundown on what you can expect on board so you can determine if Carnival Jubilee is right for your next sailing.

Carnival Jubilee overview

carnival cruise drink package on board

Carnival Jubilee is a megaship, coming in at 183,521 tons and carrying up to 6,631 passengers at full capacity. It's tied with Carnival Celebration for the title of the largest ship in Carnival's fleet.

The vessel offers weeklong Caribbean voyages on a regular rotation from its home port in Galveston, Texas, meaning you'll find a healthy dose of Texas-style fun on board (more on that later). In fact, Carnival is so dedicated to keeping the ship in the Lone Star State that it had a Texas star painted on the ship's hull.

Carnival Jubilee's demographics run the gamut from families with young kids or extended family groups to groups of friends, couples and even solo cruisers (even though it doesn't have any cabins for singles). True to the rumors about Southern hospitality, the people on my cruise were some of the warmest and most polite I've ever encountered; fellow passengers were saying "excuse me," allowing others to go first in line and generally being more courteous than I've found on sailings from other places.

The ship is divided into six zones, where passengers can find a mix of bars, restaurants, live performances, water-filled fun and exhilarating activities like a ropes course, minigolf and, of course, the Bolt roller coaster . Here's a bit about each zone.

Carnival Jubilee zones

carnival cruise drink package on board

Grand Central: This bustling area rises up three decks — decks 6, 7 and 8 — and replaces the traditional atrium found on older Carnival vessels. The focal point is Center Stage, a starboard-side (on your right when facing the front of the ship) secondary theater that's home to events like bingo during the day and song-and-dance performances at night.

Surrounding the stage are tons of seating options, as well as JavaBlue Cafe, which serves coffee and snacks; Cherry on Top candy shop; the Center Stage and Grand View Bars; and Bonsai Sushi and Teppanyaki. It also serves as an access point for the onboard shops, Piano Bar 88, The Punchliner Comedy Club and the Jubilee Casino.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Currents: Currents is one of the other main social hubs on Carnival Jubilee. It starts on Deck 6, just aft of Grand Central and features two new bars. The Golden Mermaid has gilded decor and a custom-designed mural depicting mermaids and lots of hidden Easter eggs (look for SpongeBob SquarePants references). Meanwhile, Dr. Inks, Ph.D., is a bar based on the fictional character Dr. Inks — an octopus with academic credentials. Both bars have excellent drink menus.

Also in the space is Emeril's Bistro 717, a New Orleans-style, for-fee eatery developed by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse.

On the wall above Dr. Inks, window-shaped screens provide a show for anyone passing through the length of the Currents promenade area. Programming rotates between underwater adventures, nature scenes and even artwork produced by passengers and kids from St. Jude's Children's Hospital. For a better view, head up one deck to the Alchemy Bar.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The Shores: If the Currents zone is the underwater-themed area of the ship, The Shores on Deck 8 is what you get when you pop your head above the metaphorical surface. Inspired by boardwalks and beaches, The Shores offers two walk-up food counters: Beach Buns (Carnival Deli on other ships) and Coastal Slice (the equivalent of Pizza Pirate or Pizzeria del Capitano). Offset by colorful, blinking carnival-style lighting, the venues all but scream, "Step right up!"

Other venues in the area include the Marina Bar for cocktails and coffee, complimentary Italian restaurant Cucina del Capitano and for-fee seafood eatery Rudi's Seagrill, created by food pop artist chef Rudi Sodamin.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Summer Landing: From The Shores, continue aft on Deck 8 to reach Summer Landing. It's an indoor space that encompasses Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse, a Guy Fieri barbecue joint with its own microbrewery and live music; the Heroes Tribute Lounge, which honors members of the military; and soft-serve ice cream.

Outside, the area continues with The Patio, which features a pool and hot tubs, and neighboring The Watering Hole, a bar that serves the space.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Lido: A mix of food and fun, the Lido zone fans out on decks 16 and 17 around the ship's main Beach Pool, which serves as the center of the action. Around and above it, you'll find outdoor movies, dedicated teen hangouts, a video arcade, a two-story version of the RedFrog Tiki Bar, cruiser favorite BlueIguana Cantina, extra-fee Seafood Shack and Street Eats street food.

On the upper deck is the popular Guy's Burger Joint, which is oddly set a bit farther away from the action on Excel Class ships. Farther afield on Deck 16, passengers can check out Shaquille O'Neal's Big Chicken restaurant or venture to Lido Marketplace, the ship's complimentary buffet.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The Ultimate Playground: If you're looking for alfresco thrills to keep you busy, The Ultimate Playground is the place to be. It comprises a miniature golf course, a basketball court, a ropes course and the line's signature WaterWorks water park, all of which are free.

Of course, the highlight of this zone is the Bolt roller coaster. It's an added-fee experience during which passengers (one to two people per ride) zoom twice around the track on a motorcycle-style vehicle that allows you to throttle up or down to a speed that suits you.

What I love about Carnival Jubilee

Grand central.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Grand Central is one of my favorite spots on board. Although it's often loud, busy and difficult to navigate, especially on sea days, it's a prime place to sit and people-watch. I found myself gravitating there repeatedly to enjoy coffee or a snack from the nearby JavaBlue Cafe while watching the cast from that night's show rehearse at Center Stage — something you can't usually do on other ships.

Plus, the space is a bit of a throwback to the days when interior designer and architect Joe Farcus was responsible for Carnival's ship decor. The decor is midcentury modern style meets '80s quirk, featuring a pink and teal color scheme, fun light fixtures and a bar with colored mirror accents.

carnival cruise drink package on board

I'm not generally someone who cares about alcohol. Give me one or two pina coladas on a weeklong cruise, and I'm good to go. However, the massively creative options on the menus at both the Golden Mermaid and Dr. Inks, Ph.D., bars are absolutely worth a shoutout.

For the wow factor, the best drink I had was A Pearly Bubble. Found on the menu at the Golden Mermaid, it's a mix of gin, St-Germain liqueur, white cranberry juice, dragon fruit and lime juice. It was a bit too dry for me, so I didn't care for the taste; however, you won't want to miss the presentation, which involves a giant bubble atop the drink. It pops when you poke it, leaving behind a tiny poof of smoke.

For taste, which I know is subjective, my favorite is the Crimson Catch (Swedish Fish candy-infused vodka, lime juice, pomegranate liqueur, white cranberry juice and Swedish Fish candy). I prefer sweet drinks, and this hit the spot.

carnival cruise drink package on board

It's not unusual for the line at JavaBlue to snake around the corner and down the hall at peak times. The staff members try their best to keep things moving, but if you don't feel like waiting 10-15 minutes for a cuppa, head upstairs to Deck 8's Marina Bar instead.

There, you can order any of the same coffee beverages you'll find at JavaBlue but in far less time. If you're feeling more like a cocktail, you can grab one of those, too. On my sailing, the bartenders were phenomenal and even remembered that I prefer non-dairy milk with my lattes.

Bolt roller coaster

carnival cruise drink package on board

Cruise fans know that Carnival brought Bolt, the first-ever roller coaster at sea, to Mardi Gras in 2021. Carnival Jubilee offers the same ride — the third of its kind on a cruise ship — in the deck 18, 19 and 20 Ultimate Playground area.

Pay a fee to ride, and you (or you and a friend) can navigate two laps of twists and turns around the ship's funnel as you use the throttle and hyper-boost buttons to try to break the day's speed record. (Yes, you'll be timed, and don't forget to smile for a photo.) The ocean views from above are totally worth the cost.

What I don't love about Carnival Jubilee

carnival cruise drink package on board

There's no easy way to say this: The ship almost always feels crowded. If you want to enjoy it when it's not, you'll have to stay on board during port calls just to find some space to yourself. Many restaurants and walk-up counters have near-constant lines, particularly at the complimentary venues during peak dinner times every evening.

It's so common for JavaBlue to be backed up throughout the day that an easy-to-miss sign directs passengers to other locations where they can grab a cup of coffee. Meanwhile, lines at the onboard deli and pizzeria counters frequently snake so far down Deck 8 that they block the entrance to seafood restaurant Rudi's Seagrill. One night, as I was dining at Rudi's with some of my travel companions, we joked that the lines were dangerously close to melding with the line for the nearby guest services desk.

And it isn't just a problem with dining. I arrived 15 minutes early for a magic show at the Punchliner Comedy Club, and I couldn't find a single available seat in the entire place. On another night, I showed up on time for Family Feud Live in the ship's theater, and it was a standing-room-only situation. The sizes of the performance venues are generally way too small for the number of passengers wishing to watch the shows.

carnival cruise drink package on board

My cabin had some of the best soundproofing I've experienced on a new ship in a long time — I had balcony accommodations near an elevator bank and heard nothing when I was in my room. However, a couple of passengers told me they could hear noise from Bolt in their balcony cabin on Deck 15.

Most other places on board seem to be excessively loud. Even on port days, when most passengers are ashore, the public areas are filled with loud music that makes it hard to find a quiet escape. Some of it is understandable. After all, Carnival vessels are known as the Fun Ships, but some of it seems unnecessary.

One example is the Dr. Seuss-themed Seuss-a-palooza Parade that makes its way through the Currents zone once per sailing. I happened to be sitting at a table in the area when the festivities kicked off. I decided to stay to see what it was all about, and I'm sorry I did. As costumed Dr. Seuss characters arrived, Carnival staff asked the children to scream solely for the sake of screaming. Ear-piercing shrieks reverberated throughout the space, which was also blocked off to passengers trying to pass through.

The excessive upselling

carnival cruise drink package on board

Combining noise with the annoyance of hawking alcohol, the roving waiters visited every table at Chibang! — the ship's hybrid Mexican-Asian restaurant — one night while I was having dinner there. Their goal was to push Rumchata shots on everyone. Whenever somebody bought one, the waiter would demand that they yell "Shot, shot, shot!" before downing it. This was extremely disruptive and added to the already loud atmosphere.

One afternoon later in the sailing, two different crew members approached me a total of six times in less than half an hour while I was having lunch on the Lido deck. The first five times, I simply said, "No, thanks." After the sixth time, I had enough and told them nicely but firmly to stop asking me. I found the high-pressure sales tactics excessive and irritating when all I wanted to do was eat my meal in peace.

The inconsistencies

carnival cruise drink package on board

Oddly, there were some discrepancies on board that I was surprised to see on a ship that's been sailing for several months.

The first couple had to do with differences between the Carnival HUB app and the daily Fun Times printed schedule. On one occasion, the app said Seafood Shack opened half an hour earlier than it did, while the paper version of the daily schedule had the correct information. Another time, the printed daily had the wrong theater show listed for that night; the correct one was posted in the HUB. On another day, the printed schedule was missing part four of a four-part show, which did show up on the agenda in the app.

In terms of food and drinks, I had a strange experience at Chibang! when I ordered spring rolls. Usually, they don't have meat in them, nor was meat listed as an ingredient on the menu. When the waiter took my order, he said, "Spring rolls with chicken." When I asked him about it, he said he could request for them to be made without it, but that doesn't explain why something with meat in it wouldn't have meat in its list of ingredients. If I were a vegetarian or vegan, it would have concerned me.

As for drinks, I ordered a Snapping Pop at Dr. Inks., Ph.D. It was completely different — different color, different taste and different presentation — from what I received when I ordered the same drink on a sailing two months prior. I was told the drink had to be changed for several reasons. However, the old ingredients were listed on the menu, meaning passengers weren't getting what they thought they ordered.

Carnival Jubilee cabins and suites

carnival cruise drink package on board

Carnival Jubilee offers cabins in the usual varieties: insides with no windows or balconies, ocean-view accommodations with windows, balcony cabins with outdoor veranda space and suites that include additional perks. These include priority check-in, boarding and disembarkation; preferred dinner times in the main dining room; pillow-top mattresses; two large bottles of water and bathrobes; and extra square footage.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Within those categories, Carnival Jubilee offers three types of special cabins. First is Family Harbor, which offers nautically themed cabins that sleep up to five people and rooms that can be connected via an interior door. Families booked in Family Harbor cabins have access to a dedicated Family Harbor Lounge, which offers daily breakfast, snacks and drinks, as well as board games and TVs with a selection of movies and video games. They also receive a free night of babysitting in the kids club so parents can enjoy some alone time.

The second special cabin type is the Havana Cabana. Done up in bright, tropical colors, these rooms offer extended outdoor lounge space and private access to the Havana Pool and Bar area.

The third type is Cloud 9 Spa cabins. With calming seafoam green and yellow decor alongside extras like Elemis toiletries, bathrobes and slippers, these are some of the most relaxing cabins on any ship. These guests also receive priority spa appointments and free access to fitness classes and the onboard thermal suite.

Suites in all three of these special accommodation types also give passengers the suite perks mentioned above.

Excel Suites, Carnival Jubilee's highest-level accommodations, receive all standard suite perks plus additional ones. These include complimentary access to the private sun deck at Loft 19, priority cabana reservations at Loft 19, concierge services, guaranteed reservations at most extra-fee restaurants, free room service, upgraded toiletries, fruit and sparkling wine upon embarkation, a free soft drink package, free in-room movies, an in-cabin coffee machine and complimentary laundry service .

Standard amenities in all rooms include a queen bed that converts to two twins on request, bedside shelving with reading lamps and USB outlets, a desk and vanity area, a sofa or chair, a closet and drawers for storage, a safe for valuables, a house phone and a hair dryer.

Bathrooms feature a toilet, sink and shower with a door instead of a curtain. Complimentary toiletries are basic: bar soap for handwashing and dispensers of shampoo and shower gel mounted on the wall in the shower.

On my sailing, I stayed in a balcony cabin, which was elegantly decorated in neutrals with blue accents. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of storage space. I appreciated touches like ample vanity mirror lighting, adjustable shelving in the closets and a surplus of USB outlets throughout the room, including near the vanity and beside the bed.

Speaking of the bed, it was exceptionally comfortable, and I was excited to find that the TV across from it had a sizable selection of free movies (as well as newer releases for a fee). The TV also allows you to watch select live channels and shipboard programming and to check your onboard bill.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Dislikes for me include a shower door that opens toward you instead of into the shower, making the already tiny bathroom even tighter. I also didn't like the "SNOOZIN'" door hangers, which often got caught in my door when I closed it; I would've rathered a "do not disturb" button like many other new ships have.

I also would have liked a taller table on the balcony, but it only had room for two chairs (not lounger-style) and a small drinks table.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Carnival Jubilee offers 82 accessible cabins in a mix of types and categories: inside, ocean-view, balcony and suite, as well as rooms in the Family Harbor, Havana Cabana and Cloud 9 Spa categories.

Within those 82 options, there are fully accessible accommodations with access to both sides of the bed and rooms that are fully accessible with single-side access to one side of the bed, which work well for passengers who use wheelchairs and scooters. Ambulatory-accessible rooms provide accommodations for people who walk with the help of assistive devices like canes or walkers.

Fully accessible rooms are stair-free, flat-threshold cabins, which offer wider (32-inch) doorways, turning space and bathrooms equipped with grab bars and shower seats.

There are no solo cabins on Carnival Jubilee.

Cabin cleaning is limited to once per day. Unless you specifically request your cabin steward to come at night for turndown service instead of earlier in the day, your room will be made up in the morning. Hang the "SNOOZIN'" card on the outside of your door, and no one will bother you — but your room won't be cleaned that day.

Carnival Jubilee restaurants and bars

Carnival jubilee food.

carnival cruise drink package on board

One of the best ways Carnival provides value to its customers is through its food offerings. Complimentary dining abounds on Carnival Jubilee, and the variety of cuisines is impressive. You'll find more free options on Carnival ships than on just about any other fleet's vessels, and they're actually tasty. It's entirely possible to eat only food that's included in the cruise fare and not feel like you're missing out.

Excellent added-fee options include steak, seafood and teppanyaki, which might be worth trying if you're celebrating a special occasion or feeling like a splurge.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Dinner reservations are recommended for many eateries, even the main dining rooms. You can make them by visiting your restaurant of choice or by using the HUB app. If you don't make one, you might find yourself waiting 20 minutes or more for a table at peak times. If you make a reservation through the app, you'll receive a notification to report to the host stand when your table is ready.

In my experience, waiters were diligent in asking about dietary requirements and restrictions. However, it was disappointing to see that many menus weren't marked with specific options for vegetarians, vegans and people who can't eat gluten.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The ship has two main dining rooms: Atlantic Restaurant (Deck 6, mid) and Pacific Restaurant (decks 6 and 7, aft).

One of them is dedicated to passengers who select Your Time Dining, which lets you eat anytime between 5 and 9 p.m. (The dedicated YTD restaurant can vary by sailing, depending on how many people choose that option.)

Both serve the same menu for dinner, but only the larger Pacific Restaurant is open for Sea Day Brunch on sea days and breakfast (but not lunch) on port days.

carnival cruise drink package on board

I very much enjoyed an omelet with hashbrowns at Sea Day Brunch and salmon during the formal night dinner in the Pacific Restaurant. I also had a wonderful time at two special events — complimentary afternoon tea and an extra-fee Dr. Seuss-themed Thing 1 and Thing 2 Birthday Breakfast — held in the Atlantic Restaurant.

Tip: If you're a vegetarian or a fan of Indian food, don't miss the daily Indian dish on the main dining room menu.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The buffet is the other free food option that's a staple on just about any cruise.

On Carnival Jubilee, the Lido Marketplace on Deck 16 is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, but I found it largely uninspired and lacking in variety. The French toast I had for breakfast and the mahi mahi I had for dinner were tasty, but there are definitely better no-charge venues on board.

carnival cruise drink package on board

A little-known fact is that, at least for the inaugural season, passengers can dine at Mexican-Asian restaurant Chibang! and the Italian Cucina del Capitano, both on Deck 8, for free. Cruisers with YTD can eat there for dinner anytime; those with set seating can dine there after 7:45 p.m.

carnival cruise drink package on board

At Cucina del Capitano, I was exceptionally pleased with the spaghetti carbonara I ordered. The nachos and spring rolls are don't-miss items at Chibang!

Unfortunately, both the service and atmosphere at Chibang! are lacking. The space is simply packed with tables — so much so that there were only about two inches between my table and the one next to me, even though I was dining alone. It then took nearly 10 minutes for a waiter to bring me water and another 10 before someone came to take my order.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Also on Deck 8 are Coastal Slice and neighboring Beach Buns, which respectively replace the pizza and deli counters found by the pool on most other Carnival ships.

The former bakes several different types of pies nearly around the clock, and they're scrumptious. The latter whips up hotdogs, soups and a variety of sandwiches. (I was pleasantly surprised by the grilled ham and cheese.) Lines for both counters are often long, but I promise it's worth the wait.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Two great staples in the ship's outdoor Lido zone are the BlueIguana Cantina (Deck 16), where you can find yummy tacos and burritos throughout the day, and Guy's Burger Joint (Deck 17), which is the place to grab some of the best burgers at sea via Carnival's partnership with chef and TV personality Guy Fieri.

The breakfast burritos at BlueIguana are fantastic. My pick from Guy's is the Chilius Maximus — an 80/20 ground chuck patty with cheese, chili, onion rings and barbecue sauce.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Guy Fieri isn't the only celebrity affiliated with Carnival's free food.

Shaq's Big Chicken , a restaurant backed by basketball great Shaquille O'Neal (who is also Carnival's CFO, chief fun officer), is perfect if you have a hankering for some fried chicken. In addition to chicken strips, sandwiches and fries, the counter-service venue also serves breakfast. Do yourself a favor and try the chicken and biscuit combo with fries.

If you're seeking a between-meal snack or light bite, try the JavaBlue Cafe on Deck 6 in Grand Central. The cafe offers a sizable menu of specialty coffee beverages and tea, as well as free and for-fee snacks.

Breakfast pastries, bowls and English muffin sandwiches, as well as all-day options like salads, sandwiches, wraps, empanadas and calzones, are complimentary; cookies, doughnuts, cupcakes and cheesecake cost extra.

As a sucker for soft-serve ice cream, I was a frequent visitor to the three soft-serve ice cream and frozen yogurt machines on decks 8, 16 and 17. At some point, I lost count of how many cones I ate.

Since there are no toppings, I recommend you snag a bowl of dry Froot Loops from the buffet during breakfast, and stash them in your cabin to mix with your ice cream later. Or grab cookies from the buffet for a DIY ice cream sandwich.

Carnival Jubilee has so many places to eat that I ran out of time to try them all on my weeklong sailing.

I missed Fresh Creations, a salad station in the adults-only sun deck area on Deck 18, and Street Eats, a set of three street food-style walk-up windows on Deck 16 near the main pool. The walk-up windows include Steam Dream, which serves dumplings; Time Fries, offering creative takes on french fries; and Sizzle, a grill that specializes in kebabs and other dishes.

Extra-cost food

My favorite onboard dining experience of the whole sailing was at Emeril's Bistro 717 in the Currents zone on Deck 6. A version of this chef Emeril Lagasse-affiliated spot is on each of Carnival's Excel Class ships, bearing the hull number of the original vessel for which the new one is named. Simply walk up to order at the counter, have a seat and a waiter will take over from there.

During my visit, I ordered a pound of stone crab claws in garlic butter (market price) with red beans and rice ($3) and a brie bowl ($6). The food was fabulous, and the service was friendly. My only complaint is that, apart from a claw cracker, there were no other tools available to get to the crab meat. (I asked.) My waiter had no bibs or wet wipes to offer, which left me a bit messy afterward.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The food item I most recommend you try when sailing on Carnival Jubilee is an order of beignets at Emeril's. Pillows of soft fried dough coated in powdered sugar with chocolate and strawberry sauces for dipping are $5 for an order of six.

My second favorite experience was a calm, quiet and uncrowded lunch at Bonsai Sushi on Deck 8. I partook in edamame ($3) and a California roll ($8). It was fresh, tasty, filling and reasonably priced.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Another excellent dinner during my voyage occurred at Rudi's Seagrill (Deck 8), an upscale seafood restaurant named for chef and pop artist Rudi Sodamin. The lobster macaroni and cheese was the perfect indulgence to start my meal, and I followed it up with a delicious crab cake.

I wasn't overly hungry when I sat down, but the $49 cover charge ($15 for kids) would also have included a soup or salad and a dessert if I had wanted them.

carnival cruise drink package on board

No Carnival sailing would be complete for a carnivore without a visit to Fahrenheit 555, the onboard steakhouse . On Carnival Jubilee, it's adorned in neutral tans, dark browns and red tones.

The menu has several types of meat — including steak, of course, as well as lamb chops and chicken — and seafood items like fish and lobster tail. I went with a 9-ounce filet mignon, which was cooked to perfection. It came alongside several sauces and sides of broccoli and crinkle-cut fries for $49 ($15 for kids).

carnival cruise drink package on board

My two most disappointing extra-fee food encounters on Carnival Jubilee were Seafood Shack (Deck 16, in the Lido zone, near the pool) and room service.

The first one opened late, and despite my order being the first one of the day, it still took more than 20 minutes to be served. I chose a single crab cake for $15. When I received it, the bun was soggy, and no garnishes or sauces were offered until I went back to the counter to ask for coleslaw and tartar sauce, neither of which helped the flavor.

It didn't hold a candle to the crab cake from Rudi's, and I ended up abandoning most of it.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Room service, which comes with a la carte fees (except for free Continental breakfast), set me back almost $20 for a chicken quesadilla, chicken fingers with curly fries and a chocolate chip cookie, which I ordered sometime around 2 a.m.

Everything arrived quickly and at the right temperature. The fries and cookie were great, but the chicken fingers were rubbery and full of gristle. When I tried to order the quesadilla without chicken, I was told they were already made, which seems strange. Shouldn't room service be made to order?

carnival cruise drink package on board

Again, I couldn't fit every single restaurant into my time on Carnival Jubilee, so I missed out on Bonsai Teppanyaki, where chefs grill your food right in front of you, complete with corny jokes. I also missed Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse, another Guy Fieri creation that serves barbecue fare, wings and microbrewed beer made right on the ship (lunch is free). I couldn't make it to Chef's Table, an exclusive multicourse small-group dining experience that's the most pricey meal on board, either.

Carnival Jubilee bars

Drinks are priced individually unless you have a Cheers beverage package that includes alcohol.

carnival cruise drink package on board

My favorite bar on Carnival Jubilee is the Marina Bar in The Shores zone on Deck 8. It offers a menu of adult beverages, but it also serves the same specialty coffees you'll find at JavaBlue, which often has a long line.

This nautically themed outpost is next to a popular access point to the outer decks, so the only downside is that you might be blasted with hot air while your drink is being made.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Unique to Carnival Jubilee are two new bars in the Deck 6 Currents zone.

The Golden Mermaid is a nod to treasures one might expect to find under the sea, and a mural on the opposite wall depicts underwater scenes, including mermaids. (For some "Where's Waldo"-style fun, try to spot a miniature likeness of the ship, a pair of custom sneakers and references to SpongeBob SquarePants.)

carnival cruise drink package on board

The menu of drinks is noteworthy, too, featuring names like From Far Seas and Atlantis Potion. My favorite, though, is A Pearly Bubble — a blend of gin, St. Germain liqueur, white cranberry juice, lime juice and dragon fruit that's as much for show as it is for taste.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The second new bar is Dr. Inks, Ph.D. In addition to a fun selection of cocktails — some of which involve candy — the bar's theme is tied to an animated octopus named Dr. Inks. She has a Ph.D., pet butterflies and extensive collections of both books and fashionable eyewear. Every so often, she'll appear on the screens above the area to chat.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Cruiser-favorite Alchemy Bar — where white-coated apothecaries prescribe drinks to heal what ails you (try the Cucumber Sunrise) — and the bar at Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse returned to Carnival Jubilee after finding success on other Carnival ships.

Besides beer that's brewed right on board — which you can order by the glass, flight or growler, or in cocktails — you can snag one of several whiskies or interesting cocktails like a smoky watermelon margarita and a black bourbon fizz. I tried a bacon Manhattan, but the taste wasn't my favorite. I also wasn't impressed with how long it took a bartender to ask for my order, especially since it wasn't particularly crowded.

carnival cruise drink package on board

I'm not a huge drinker, so I didn't personally try cocktails from the Center Stage Bar (Deck 6) or Grand View Bar (Deck 7) in Grand Central. The former features a bit of a retro vibe, and the latter is backed by a giant light-up wall that looks like wave.

carnival cruise drink package on board

I also missed out on the RedFrog Tiki Bar, a two-deck (decks 16 and 17), hut-style setup that replaces the RedFrog Rum Bar found on many other Carnival ships' pool decks. It's where you'll find the most quintessentially tropical menu of mixed drinks on board.

Other outdoor bar options include The Watering Hole near Summer Landing on Deck 8, the Serenity Pool Bar on Deck 18 in the adults-only area and the Loft 19 Bar on the exclusive Loft 19 sun deck. (Access is free for passengers booked in suites or anyone who reserves a cabana for anywhere from $250 to $500 per day.)

carnival cruise drink package on board

Back inside, Deck 6's Piano Bar is where passengers can order a tipple while an onboard pianist tickles the ivories. Make your way up a deck, and you'll find the Limelight Lounge, which serves as a secondary performance space and trivia outpost.

Go one deck farther, and you can choose between the Havana Bar, which serves Latin-themed cocktails, and the Heroes Tribute Lounge, which has a special menu of drinks dedicated to military members.

Carnival Jubilee entertainment

Carnival jubilee activities.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Carnival Jubilee offers a full roundup of daily activities on each voyage.

Passengers might choose to head to the casino, play bingo, enjoy an alcohol tasting, participate in a sports tournament, go on a digital scavenger hunt, mingle at a deck party, play minigolf, take a dance class, learn towel folding, or attend a spa, jewelry or shopping seminar.

Particularly notable are the rotating animations that pop up throughout the Currents zone during each voyage.

If you show up during "Soundwaves Jukebox," you'll see synthesizer-like graphics pulsating to the music on the giant screens above the space.

"Change the Currents" will allow you to view underwater scenes from different areas of the world, including the Arctic and swampy Everglades; other experiences take you on an underwater adventure in a submarine and display ocean-themed artwork drawn by kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Some of my personal favorite pastimes on board included trivia, pool deck movies, for-fee culinary classes and a particularly relaxing massage. (Watch out for discounts early in your sailing or on port days.)

In addition to treatments, the Cloud 9 Spa offers salon services and a thermal suite — access to which is free with the purchase of a pass or a spa treatment — with a thalassotherapy pool, heated tile loungers, a sauna and two steam rooms. The adjacent fitness center is on the small side but features for-fee personal training and organized fitness classes, as well as equipment that's free for passengers to use.

If you're interested in spending time outdoors working on your tan by the pool, you can do so at one of five onboard pools.

There's the Havana Pool (private access for cruisers staying in Havana Cabanas) and the Patio Pool, both on Deck 8 (the latter with hot tubs); the Beach Pool and Tides Pool on Deck 16 (also with hot tubs); and the Deck 18 adults-only Serenity Pool (with hot tubs). There's also a hot tub at Loft 19 on Deck 19, which charges a fee for access.

Cabanas are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis. Prices vary by sailing, but on my voyage, they were $500 per day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pool lifts accommodating up to 300 pounds are available for passengers with limited mobility.

On Deck 18, you'll find Waterworks, which offers waterslides and a splash area for kids.

Kids and adults who aren't afraid of heights will enjoy the top-deck ropes course, which offers two options for different levels of skill and bravery. The Bolt roller coaster, a minigolf course and a basketball court are also found in the SportSquare area within the Ultimate Playground zone.

Additional activities for youngsters take place in Camp Ocean, Carnival's kids club , which splits children into four groups: Turtles (up to 2 years old), Penguins (2-5), Stingrays (6-8) and Sharks (9-11).

Fun pursuits on the daily schedule might include arts and crafts, themed parties, science experiments, games and story time, depending on the age group.

Camp Ocean also has an interactive space wall, where astronauts lead kids on virtual expeditions, complete with a ceiling that lights up like the night sky to show the constellations.

Kids can also attend Build-A-Bear workshops, march along in a Dr. Seuss-themed parade led by the Fox in Socks and Thing 1 and Thing 2, and listen to the Cat in the Hat read stories.

Tweens and teens have their own dedicated hangout spaces. Activities here are less structured, and participants can come and go as they please. Plus, an onboard arcade offers video games for a fee.

Carnival Jubilee shows

Entertainment on Carnival Jubilee is a combination of passenger favorites from other ships and new shows that you'll only find on this vessel.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Of the performances, I most enjoyed two main-theater shows that are also found on some other ships in the fleet. "Celestial Strings" is a mix of classical and modern pop instrumentals partnered with ethereal costumes and sets; "Soulbound" is a song-and-dance performance with a Victorian steampunk vibe, set in what feels like New Orleans, during which a soul-stealer tries to mess with a twisted love story.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Another excellent show is "Rio Carnival," which occurs at Center Stage in the Grand Central zone instead of the main theater. Although the first half felt a bit shaky and slightly boring to me, the second half redeemed it all, featuring a parade of dancers and aerialists dressed in flamboyant costumes synonymous with Rio de Janeiro's Carnival.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The ship's two new shows are just OK. The first, "Dear Future Husband," is a song-and-dance theater show with a plot that involves a couple taking their closest friends on a cruise for a combination bachelor/bachelorette party and wedding. Musical numbers befit the wedding theme and include Bruno Mars' "Marry You" and, of course, Meghan Trainor's "Dear Future Husband."

After the performance, a "reception" (read: dance party with a DJ and visits from the cast) is held in one of the ship's public areas. When I saw this show several months ago, the reception was in the Limelight Lounge. On this more recent voyage, Dr. Inks, Ph.D., served as the reception location.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The second new show is the "Lone Star Tailgate." Drawing on Texas' love for all things football, Carnival has created four indoor/outdoor "quarters" of fun to mimic the four quarters of a football game. When I sailed, the first quarter, which is all about pool deck games for kids, was held on one sea day, and the other three were held on another sea day.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The second quarter involves pool deck games where passengers have to dress up in football gear to complete team races.

During "halftime," the ship's theater singers and dancers put on a show on the pool deck, dressed in team colors to support the fictional Carnival University — the team cruisers are supposedly cheering on during the festivities.

The third and fourth quarters occur in the Summer Landing zone; passengers can rope hay bales, participate in a hot wing-eating contest at Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse and follow it up with music from a live band.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Don't miss the audience participation-style game shows like "Family Feud Live," "Deal or No Deal" and the "Love & Marriage Show." The first pits two family teams against one another to guess popular answers to survey questions; the latter tests couples to see how well they know one another, often resulting in hilarious answers.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Other entertainment during my sailing included several day and nighttime comedy acts, an absolutely phenomenal magic show (be sure to arrive at the Punchliner Comedy Club at least 30 minutes early or you won't find a seat) and "We Are One," a farewell show that focuses on togetherness.

Carnival Jubilee itineraries and pricing

carnival cruise drink package on board

Through at least April 2026, Carnival Jubilee offers two seven-night Western Caribbean itineraries out of its Galveston home port on a regular rotation. Both types of sailings begin and end in Galveston and visit Mahogany Bay in Roatan and Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico with three sea days mixed in. The only difference between the two itineraries is the order in which the port calls and sea days occur.

At the time of publication, prices started from $709 per person ($101 per person per night) for an inside cabin or $919 per person ($131 per person per night) for balcony accommodations.

What to know before you sail on Carnival Jubilee

Required documents.

carnival cruise drink package on board

If you're a U.S. citizen on a cruise that starts and ends in a U.S. port, you'll need a current passport or an official copy of your birth certificate and a driver's license or other government-issued photo identification to sail. A few other forms of identification, such as a passport card, also are acceptable.

Passports must be valid for at least six more months. For cruises from international ports, you'll need a passport. Note that it is important that the name on your reservation be exactly as it is stated on your passport or other official proof of nationality. All this said, we recommend checking Carnival's website before sailing for up-to-date requirements.

Carnival Jubilee passengers will automatically have $16 per person per day added to their onboard bills. Cruisers staying in suites will pay $18 per person per day. (Children younger than 2 are exempt from gratuities.) An 18% gratuity is also added to bar and cafe bills, spa treatments and the cover charge of the Chef's Table.

Carnival Wi-Fi is generally fast and reliable, and Jubilee features StarLink connectivity. However, don't be surprised if you find yourself repeatedly and automatically disconnected, which is annoying.

Packages have increased significantly in price in recent years, and each plan is only for one device. (You can log out of one and into another with the same account, but you can't connect more than one simultaneously unless you buy additional plans.)

Three package tiers are available: Social (access to most social media and airline websites and apps for $18 per day or $126 for a weeklong cruise), Value (same as Social, plus access to financial and news websites and apps for $23 per day or $161 for a week) and Premium (everything from the Social and Value packages plus Skype access and video calling for $25 per day or $175 for a week). Passengers can also choose 24 hours of Premium access for $35.

Carnival claims that its packages don't allow FaceTime, iMessage or streaming from popular apps like Netflix and Hulu. However, TPG writers have had success using all of those services with the Premium package.

Carnival Jubilee is also the first ship in the fleet to offer 5G cellphone connectivity, which means faster speeds when you connect using your cellphone's plan. But be warned: If you don't have a special plan that allows you to connect at sea without roaming, you could be looking at hefty fees when you return. Generally, it's best to keep your phone in airplane mode when you sail.

Carry-on drinks policy

Passengers can carry on one bottle of wine or Champagne per person (21 years and older); this will incur a $15 corkage fee for consumption in public areas. Each person can also bring up to 12 standard cans or cartons of nonalcoholic beverages like juice or soda. Alcohol-free drinks in plastic and glass bottles aren't allowed.

Related: Can I bring my own alcohol on a cruise ship?

Smoking policy

carnival cruise drink package on board

Smoking (including electronic cigarettes) is allowed but only in designated outdoor areas on Deck 8 mid-ship on the starboard side. Smoking is also allowed on the starboard side of the casino, but it's for cigarettes only. All types of smoking are forbidden in cabins and on cabin balconies.

Related: Cruise line smoking policies

Carnival Jubilee has self-service pressing rooms on decks 4, 5, 9, 14 and 15 with ironing boards and irons that are free to use. There are no self-service laundry facilities, though. Instead, passengers can send out their clothing for washing, pressing and dry-cleaning for a per-item fee.

Related: Everything you need to know about cruise ship laundry

Electrical outlets

Carnival Jubilee has standard North American 110-volt outlets in its cabins, as well as plenty of USB ports. In my balcony room, I had three standard outlets and four USB lightning ports by the vanity. There was also a USB port (non-lightning) on either side of the bed, just below the reading lamp.

carnival cruise drink package on board

The currency on Carnival Jubilee is the U.S. dollar. The ship also operates without cash. Passengers link credit cards to their onboard accounts or put up a set amount of cash to charge against, using their keycards as a means of making purchases. The only time you might want to have some bills handy is for tipping your room steward, bartenders, room service delivery people, luggage porters or shore excursion guides.

Drinking age

You must be at least 21 years old to drink alcohol on Carnival Jubilee.

carnival cruise drink package on board

Carnival Jubilee does not have a specific daytime dress code, and people dress casually. If it's a sea day in a warm-weather destination, and you're bound for the top deck, T-shirts, shorts and bathing suits (with a cover-up to go inside) are just fine.

During the evenings, the official dress code is pretty laid-back. Most nights are designated "cruise casual," which means just that — khakis or jeans, polo shirts, sundresses and the like. Super casual items such as cutoff jeans, men's sleeveless shirts, T-shirts and gym shorts are supposedly not permitted, but I saw plenty of them in the dining rooms during dinnertime on Carnival Jubilee.

Each weeklong cruise will schedule two formal nights — known as "elegant nights." If you're bound for the dining rooms, men are expected to turn up in dress slacks and a dress shirt, preferably with a sports coat or even a suit. The suggested attire for women on such nights is cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts and blouses. Passengers who wish to avoid dressing up can enjoy dinner in any of the casual eateries aboard.

Bottom line

carnival cruise drink package on board

Sure, Carnival Jubilee carries a lot of people, and it can feel crowded and cumbersome to learn your way around at first.

However, it offers new ocean- and beach-themed zones, delicious food, creative cocktails, friendly crew members, comfy cabins, outdoor thrills, Texas charm and a marquee packed with fun daily diversions and nighttime shows. You'll find it's an affordable Caribbean vacation that speaks to just about any traveler who enjoys a large-cruise-ship experience.

Carnival Cruise Line makes controversial boarding policy clear

C ruise ship passengers have to pay more attention than people taking land-based vacations. You might, for example, stay at Disney World past park closure or even after transportation stops running.

When that happens, you may need to take an Uber or a Lyft back to your hotel, but there's no fear that the hotel will not be there when you find your way back. Cruise ships. however, have set departure times and they generally leave exactly when they're scheduled to leave.

Related: Carnival Cruise Line forced to make beverage package change

That can be tricky for passengers as sometimes ship time and local time might be different. Back when people wore traditional watches, it was easy enough to simply set your watch to ship time and leave it at that.

Local time only mattered if you booked a reservation or excursion and needed to be there at the right time. Smartphones and watches, however, generally automatically update to local time (although you can set them not to).

That can lead to situations where a passenger knows they need to be back on the ship 5 p.m. but may not know when 5 p.m. is. Sometimes, of course, passengers simply cut it to close (or maybe have too much to drink) and end up being what's known as pier runners — passengers running on the dock to board the ship before it leaves.

A recent situation where Norwegian Cruise Line NCLH left some passengers behind led to Carnival Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald commenting on the issue.

Carnival will leave you behind

Carnival, and all cruise lines, pay for the time they are docked in port. In most cases, they will wait for passengers who are late that booked a cruise-line sponsored excursion (technically, Carnival and other cruise lines promise to get those passengers back to the ship, which could mean at a later port).

People who book their own excursions or simply visit the port on their own have no special protections. The cruise lines, can (and will) leave them behind. That's what happened to some Norwegian Cruise Line passengers recently and Heald commented on it on his Facebook page.

"I had to check to see if I was actually also the Brand Ambassador of NCL. I am not," he wrote. "Now I say that because I was asked, questioned, and indeed bollocked by various people about a news story that went virus or whatever it's called about some NCL guests that had missed the ship and had been 'left in Africa.'"

Heald shared that Carnival likely would have left at the appointed time as it is the passengers' responsibility to be back on the ship on time.

"Anyway, I explained that all the cruise companies make it very clear that they will wait if you’re on one of their excursions but not otherwise. These guests were told what time they had to be on board and they weren’t. It really is that simple," he added.

Carnival gets some passenger pushback

Heald shared a response from one of his followers:

"That was the basis of my reply and wow 'P' did not like that and went full Glitterknickers on me. Brilliantly though she wrote this: 'You have no heart John Heald. The passengers have been punished for having time blindness and accommodations should have been made. The ship should have waited!'" he shared.

Heald made it clear that he was not overly sympathetic to the passengers in this case.

"Can I say again that I do not work for NCL? It’s not my sodding fault. However, time blindness...ummmmm, OK. And as far as 'accommodations' being made, NCL had indeed made some. They are called 'clocks,' he wrote.

Cruise lines do sometimes stay docked past their planned time. Sometimes weather can force a longer stay while medical emergencies may also delay departure.

Heald's post garnered over 350 comments and most agreed with the cruise line.

"Time blindness is a thing, yes, but you just have to be extra aware. My husband is vigilant with the time. I with ADHD who struggle also always am mindful of the time. I hate being late so always try to be early. At what point does a ship stop waiting, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, you make an exception for one you open the floodgates," wrote Stacey Lanigan.

In addition to accruing additional costs for a longer port stay, a cruise ship may not be able to make its next stop if it is delayed too long.

"John it wouldn’t matter what time people had to be back there’s always those who are late. It’s part of the fun having a balcony, and watching them run! Just follow the rules and there won’t be a problem," Cindy Lane Sells added.
