When it comes to travel, we know you need to find the perfect balance between comfort and style. After all, it’s great to look put together while hopping on a flight, but not at the cost of your comfort—especially on long-haul trips. Rest assured, we've curated a list of wardrobe essentials to achieve flawless travel and airport outfits, whether you are exploring a new destination for business or pleasure.
When it comes to the best travel outfits for women, accessories play a critical role in keeping you comfy and organized. All you have to do is remember a comfortable pair of shoes , compression socks to keep things moving, an eye mask that's an upgrade from the one the airline provides, and a chic shawl that doubles as a blanket. And of course, no travel outfit would be complete without a fashionable (and functional!) carry-on bag on your arm or atop your luggage . This bag should house all of your essentials and still level up your airport outfit. Keep reading for some of the best travel and airport outfit ideas your next trip.
Spanx AirEssentials Wide-Leg Pants
Sometimes nothing less than sweats will do, and here is where Spanx really excels. Oprah picked these for her 2022 Favorite Things , saying, “You might know Spanx for its shapewear, but it also does fantastic cozy clothes. When I tell you this set feels light as air, I’m not kidding. It’s my new leisure suit. The perfectly loose-and-lightweight fabric is like buttah!”
Missky Long-Sleeved Oversize Pant Set
You might look like you're already on vacation if you show up to the airport in this neutral pants and button-down set. Available in two bright and two neutral colors, and sizes small to 2XL.
Vuori Elevation Trouser in Midnight Heather
Vuori is celebrated for its super-cozy pieces. The best thing about these pants? They look put together while the stretch-knit fabric is as comfy as your favorite Vuori loungers. The high-rise waist and loose fit of the leg give you an effortlessly stylish silhouette.
Girlfriend Collective Compressive Pocket Legging
Leggings are a perfect choice for traveling wear. And these have Oprah's seal of approval, as they were picked for Oprah's 2022 Favorite Things list. Eco-friendly and size-inclusive (the range goes through 6XL), these compression leggings are available in a plethora of hues. Plus, they feature double-side seaming and pockets.
Dr. Scholl's Time Off Platform Sneakers
Celebrated for their consciously comfortable footwear, these sneakers from Dr. Scholl's are tricked out with tons of features for all-day comfort. Inside, anatomical cushioning and arch support keep you covered while a lightweight, anti-slip platform sole protects on the outside. This minimalist sneaker looks just as good with a matching suit as it does a low-key sweat set.
J. Crew Cashmere-Wool Travel Wrap
Let's be honest, you can't always count on the airline's blankets to keep you warm, and some even leave annoying fluff behind. Stay warm and stylish with your own wearable blanket by way of this travel necessity from J. Crew that comes in eight different colors.
Athleta Everlasting Button-Down Top
A classic button-down is a travel essential that elevates any in-transit look. Athleta's Everlasting button-down has all the details you need: a lightweight, odor-control stretch fabric and longer length for coverage. Luckily, you can cover all your neutral bases with navy, black, and white. Plus, it comes in an extended range of sizes from XXS to 3X.
Chico's Travelers No Tummy Pants
Chico's Travelers collection is made from wrinkle-resistant fabrics in comfortable silhouettes. Thanks to a pull-on waist and front darts, these No Tummy Pants are flattering and always look put together. If red isn't your vibe, they come in three other colors as well as the bestselling wide-leg Hutton pants in black.
Hoka Transport GTX Sneakers
Hoka's sneakers are cult Oprah Daily office favorites and podiatrist-approved . Not only do they look good with just about everything, but the Transport GTX also offer quick-toggle lacing for an easy on-off, as well as a full-length EVA midsole for the highest level of cushioning and arch support.
Spanx Perfect Pant High-Rise Flare
The perfect pant does not exist—wait, yes it does, and here it is. This high-rise flare option is designed with premium ponte fabric and a comfortable pull-on design for maximum comfort and easy styling on your flight. Plus, it comes in size XS to 3X, so there's something for everyone.
Spanx Women's AirEssentials 1/2 Zip Sweater
Sometimes nothing less than sweats will do, and here is where Spanx really excels. Oprah picked this top for her 2023 Favorite Things , saying, “Wow. Wow. Wow. May I tell you I got this set last year? I wore it in a photo shoot for O Quarterly and never looked back...” Why not pair it with the coordinating wide-leg pants for a full sweatsuit?
32º DEGREES Lightweight Recycled Poly-Fill Shirt Jacket
Sometimes a full on coat is not needed for travel, but you can never be quite sure of the weather. That's why a a little packable shacket—part shirt, part jacket—comes in. In black, olive green, or dark blue, the jacket will be your go-to for travel. Keep in mind, it runs slightly big in order to allow for comfortable layering of hoodies or sweaters underneath. There's a reason why Oprah tapped it on her Favorite Things list .
Dr. Motion Compression Socks with Enhanced Cushioning (3 Pack)
Compression socks are always a good ideal for traveling. We recommend these styles from Dr. Motion that offer graduated compression of 8 to 15 mmHg while providing arch support. Unlike other socks that can feel scratchy or clammy, these are soft, moisture-wicking, and subtly cushioned.
Everlane Organic Cotton Honeycomb Cardigan
This gorgeous honeycomb cotton cardigan is part of the latest iteration of Everlane Editions: The Art of Spring Layering. Crafted from responsibly sourced and lower-impact materials, this 100 percent organic cotton knit is ideal for layering before, during, and after your flight.
Original Puffer Hug Scarf
If you're traveling for business to a location that you're not thrilled about, chances are you are in need of a hug. Don't worry, this puffer hug scarf doubles as a warm wrap to keep you cozy and a hug to make you feel loved. It's fleece-lined with deep pockets so you can also store your ID and credit card without any issues.
Naadam Original 100 Percent Cashmere Sweater
Warm, soft, and chic—few things are as reliable as a plain cashmere sweater. At under $100, Naadam's perfect crewneck comes in core and limited-edition hues. Pro tip: Order a size or two larger than your usual for an ultra-cozy fit. And what's more, the sweater is machine-washable (yes, you read that right).
Frankie 4 Triple Layered-Support and Cushion Liberty Black Boots
If it's not on your radar yet, Frankie 4 is a podiatrist-designed and female-founded shoe line that offers insanely comfortable footwear. These are the perfect black boots to run around the airport and to wear on your trip as your professional or going out shoes.
JW PEI Aylin Canvas Cellphone Crossbody Bag
Making sure you have all your essentials when going through airport security can be tough, but with this crossbody, you'll have your phone and cards right at hand.
Birdies Vesper Seven-Layer Cloud Comfort Loafers
Birdies' classic loafer will elevate any airport look. They're crafted with tumbled Nappa leather, a no-slip rubbber sole, and the brand's signature seven-layer footbed for ultra-cushy support. Plus, the Vesper comes in sizes 5 to 12, and a range of colors like silver leather and cappucino with raffia accents.
Asutra Silk Eye Mask & Pillow
Oprah chose this eye mask for her 2023 Favorite Things list. "Sleeping with a mask is life-changing—I cannot tell you how much the quality of my sleep has improved," she said. "This weighted 100 percent silk one stays down and doesn’t let even a pinch of light in.” Co-owned by superstar Venus Williams, Asustra produces eye pillows that are filled with lavender and flax. Whether you want to meditate or snooze during your flight, this adjustable mask will definitely relax you.

Travel Outfits: How to Look Chic When You’re Flying
Listen—I’m all about rocking a cute travel outfit when I’m heading out of town…but I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing heels to the airport.
To be honest, I don’t even like wearing jeans on a plane (although I’ll occasionally make an exception if they’re REALLY comfortable jeans , or if my flight is under three hours.)
Usually you’ll find me rocking a head-to-toe set of my favorite affordable cashmere during the winter, and a lightweight loungewear set during the summer.
I often see pictures of bloggers at the airport posing next to their cute pink luggage wearing like…wedges and a mini-dress. HARD PASS. How is that even comfortable? When you’re en route to the airport (and your final destination) it’s all about feeling comfortable.
For this reason, I decided to put together a little guide to cute travel outfits…featuring things that you’ll actually want to travel in , whether you’re heading out for a winter getaway or a girls trip .
Because believe it or not, it’s possible to rock comfy loungewear, leggings, or a jumpsuit and still look SUPER chic, as long as you style them properly (especially my favorite faux leather leggings .)
Below are a handful of great travel outfits I found while trolling IG—and the exact things you can buy to replicate them.
(Also: if you’re also on the hunt for stylish carry-on luggage or if you need some good go-to travel toiletries…I got you covered.)
Chic Travel Outfits
Here, I’m sharing a handful of my go-to travel outfit pieces. These are all items that I think you should have in your closet regardless of how often you go on a getaway, but they just so happen to be particularly comfy choices when going on a plane.
These picks will of course depend on how long your flight is and where you’re headed, but overall, I think they’re practical for travel days.
The only caveat here is that I know a jumpsuit isn’t exactly ideal if you’re going on a long-haul flight—however—I personally don’t mind wearing them on planes because they’re so comfy and not really that difficult to slip in and out of when you need a bathroom break.
If jumpsuits aren’t your jam, there are plenty of other ideas in this post that should work for you, like a cute matching sweatsuit or leggings and a leather jacket. Without further ado, here are the staples I’d recommend having on hand for travel days.
1. An Amazon Set
2. A Comfy Jacket
3. Sweatpants
4. A Cozy Jumpsuit
5. White Sneakers (or Slip-On Sneakers)
6. A Travel Bag
Travel Outfit Style Guide
Looking for more travel outfit inspo? I put together the four looks below, which are just as cute as they are practical. I love that you can wear these on and off the plane—perfect for those days when you have to go directly from the airport to a social event or outing.

This post gave me a more clear idea of what I will wear when travelling and I especially loved the part where you mentioned the all black and all white monochromatic looks .
I do not think I would wear white on a plane. No to the belly sticking out as well. I do like the stretchy pants and sneakers.
Why would anyone wear a jumpsuit on a plane? The toilets are used by hundreds of people, now you want to pull down the top part of your clothes and have it dangling somewhere near the toilet, while you’re sitting on a toilet that exposes the part that gets wee on when the seat is up? Eeu that’s all kind of germ wrong!! But I do love the little 3/4 joggers! Def looking for some of those for my next long haul (when this pandemic is over!)

Creating Chic Travel Outfits
Who doesn’t love going on vacation and traveling to a new destination? I know I definitely do!
But while I love exploring new places, I also know that travel days can be pretty hectic! It’s important to be prepared with comfortable outfits you can easily spend the day in while navigating airports or sitting in rental cars.
If you’re in need of fashionable and functional travel outfits, you’ll love my looks below. I have airport outfits for every style and season, so whether you’re traveling to a tropical paradise or a winter wonderland, you’ll be set!
denim jacket + a puffer vest
get the look:
Layers are a must if you’re traveling in the fall or winter! I love starting my travel ensemble with basics like my Lululemon Align leggings and oversized Jil Sander tee (more affordable option here ) , then layering as needed.
Above, I added my Madewell denim jacket and Quince puffer vest to keep me warm and cozy both on and off the plane!
leggings+ a bomber jacket
An oversized tee and black leggings are the start of my airport outfit here as well, but this time, I’m staying warm with a sleek and modern bomber jacket .
I recommend choosing an outfit like this when it’s a little warmer out. The jacket is perfect for staying warm in a cold airport but can easily be removed as needed. And, these New Balance 574 sneakers are so comfortable!
linen pants + a denim jacket
Drawstring linen pants are an absolute essential in my spring and summer wardrobe! They are so comfortable and easy to wear during a travel day, and the denim jacket is stylish and adds a layer of warmth – airplane AC is always so intense!
I love this Quince phone crossbody for convenience (it fits a passport too) . And I always recommend wearing sneakers or other comfy footwear when traveling – bonus points if your shoes can be easily slipped off and on when going through security!
wool coat + Ugg slippers
Looking for the ultimate cozy travel outfit?
Leggings and Ugg Tasman slippers are definitely my go-to for comfort in the cooler months (the Uggs have been selling out constantly, so here’s a perfect high-quality Tasman dupe ) . And a long wool camel coat is not only chic but also perfect for layering – it doubles as a blanket on the plane!
I also love this long knitted coatigan from Mango as a great travel piece.
travel in neutrals
I love simple, neutral outfits because they always look effortless and stylish. A plain white tee and black linen drawstring pants are ultra-comfy but still have a chic, put-together aesthetic.
This outfit is great for summer traveling, but I always bring a sweater with me so I don’t get too cold on the plane.
bomber jacket + joggers
This is another cold-weather travel outfit that I love! Lululemon fleece joggers and a crewneck sweatshirt are great base layers and the bomber jacket adds an extra cozy feel.
And if you ask me, this ensemble has a laid-back, sporty feel, making adidas Samba sneakers and a baseball cap the perfect finishing touch!
More Comfy Airport Outfits
I’ve stalked my favorite fashion influencer and have found even more comfy travel airports that are modern and chic. I think you’ll love them too!
trench coat + trousers
You don’t have to be traveling to France to dress like a Parisian while on vacation!
A trench coat is a classic piece in French fashion, and with good reason. It’s lightweight, versatile, and oh-so chic – what more could you want for an airport outfit?
I recommend using a trench coat to layer over other pieces when traveling in cold weather or to stay dry while out and about on rainy days. A trench coat can also be used for a modern and refined look, making it perfect for any occasion!
matching sweat set
I think a matching sweatsuit set makes a perfect travel outfit because it’s comfortable and versatile. You can wear a sweatsuit set to stay warm while traveling in the fall or winter, and you can wear it as is or add layers if needed.
And I love that you can double up on a matching set by using it to build other outfits during your trip.
try (comfortable) denim
Jeans are a must to bring along when traveling, and you can’t go wrong wearing it as part of your airport outfit, so long as your jeans are comfortable and not too snug !
One thing I love about jeans is how easy they are to care for. Jeans can be worn days in a row before needing to be washed (especially in cold weather) , so being a low-maintenance and versatile piece makes them great for traveling in my opinion.
cozy shearling coat
A warm coat will keep you ultra-comfy as you fly. And if you ask me, a shearling coat or shacket is a travel piece you can’t go wrong with! This piece will keep you warm even on the coldest days, and it’s also fashionable and versatile enough to wear with so many outfits.
Such a chic and neutral-toned coat is a must if you’re traveling to or from somewhere chilly. And this coat will look great while keeping you cozy everywhere from the airplane to local cafes to must-see landmarks!
leggings + a denim jacket
If you want to know one of the best things to wear while traveling, look no further than a classic pair of leggings.
Comfortable and stretchy leggings are a perfect piece to wear, whether you’ll be walking through an airport or sitting on a plane. I suggest searching for a pair made of breathable material and one with pockets for easy access to your phone and other essentials.
a long, cozy coat
If you plan on traveling in the fall or winter ( or maybe your destination will have chilly weather ), bringing a coat is a no-brainer. And I think a long coat like this is an easy way to add a stylish and modern aesthetic to your outfits.
A piece like this will keep you nice and cozy during a busy day of traveling, and you’re sure to use it when trying local cuisine or attending a wine tasting. I love that it adds an elegant touch to a simple outfit like this, so you know you can pair this with any look, both casual and refined.
What should I wear to an airport in the summertime?
If you’ll be spending time at the airport in the summer, you will want an outfit that is both comfortable and cool. Choose lightweight and breathable pieces such as:
- Short-sleeved tee or tank top
- Lightweight leggings
- Flowy dress
- Midi or maxi skirt
- Cotton button-up shirt
- Linen blazer
- Sandals or sneakers
Comfy Airport Outfits for Summer
There are tons of cute airport outfits that are perfect for hot summer days. I’ve got my favorite comfy airport outfits for summer below, so you don’t have to sweat it when packing or traveling!
a maxi dress
What would the summer be without gorgeous flowy dresses to spend your days in? This breezy piece will keep you comfy and cool throughout your day, and it will definitely be comfortable to wear while sitting on a plane.
And in my opinion, a dress is a great piece to bring along on your vacation. You can style it casually as you travel or when checking out local spots at your destination, and it can easily be transformed into a chic date night look with a high-end handbag and some gold-toned jewelry.
linen trousers + a tank
Next on the list of comfy airport outfits for summer are flowy, linen pants. These are another fantastic travel piece you can wear for any occasion, from laid-back to classy and refined. So whether you plan on exploring tourist hot spots or dining on gourmet cuisine, these pants will fit into your vacation looks effortlessly.
I also think that crisp light-colored pants are perfect for a summer outfit, and the relaxed fit also makes them comfy enough for long travel days. They’ll fit easily into your luggage, and these lightweight trousers will definitely be a staple in your vacation wardrobe.
oversized blazer + bike shorts
I know I’m not the only one who loves layering an oversized blazer over any outfit!
Adding a blazer to an outfit is a great way to elevate your look when it comes to comfy airport outfits for summer. A blazer instantly adds a stylish and modern vibe to any ensemble, so it’s a perfect styling piece to bring while traveling.
oversized button-up
Cotton button-up shirts are a great way to feel comfortable and look chic in the summer. I suggest wearing this versatile piece over a crop top and black leggings, like in the outfit above, or keep it buttoned and tied in the front for a cute and casual aesthetic.
A button-up shirt is also another perfectly versatile piece for an airport outfit. I love that you can wear it out for a fancy dinner, pair it with jeans for a casual look, or layer it over a bikini during a tropical vacation.
matching skirt + tank
Go for maximum comfort and style in a stretchy, ribbed midi skirt and a matching top! A skirt and top set like this are lightweight and breezy but still offer plenty of coverage while traveling.
You’ll also have a perfect piece to wear for anything from sightseeing to a night out. And, my favorite thing about a matching set is that it can be kept together or mixed and matched with other pieces in your travel wardrobe. So you’ll have plenty of outfit options to choose from while on vacation.
bike shorts + hoodie
In my opinion, running shorts and a hoodie are great for casual and comfy airport outfits. The biking shorts are very travel-friendly since they’re easy to spend a whole day in and won’t take up much space in your bag. Plus, you can wear them as part of other laid-back outfits or if you plan to stay on top of your workout routine on your trip.

A Travel Editor's Best Travel Outfits for Long Flights
@sophiemiura / Instagram
There's a certain art to building the perfect travel outfit. Last year, I spent 203 hours on airplanes jetting from New York to Tahiti, Australia, Finland, Japan, and more as part of my job as an editor and travel writer. When I'm not reviewing new hotels and airlines for work, I try to squeeze in the odd trip to explore under-the-radar vacation spots at my own pace. So trust me when I say, I've had enough practice refining the best travel outfits for long flights.
I have two rules when it comes to dressing for a long-haul flight : It has to be comfortable and something I wouldn't mind being seen in if I bumped into a coworker. With that in mind, I think I've found the best travel outfit formula. Here are the exact items I mix and match on a flight, depending on my mood and the destination. Every item ticks the boxes: They're incredibly well made, stretch, don't rub, are casually stylish, and stand up to the rigors of flight after flight.
Keep scrolling for my must-have travel and airport outfit essentials—accessories included—for the next time you take to the skies.
Holdall Duffle
This is my go-to carry-on for weekend trips. I love the leather straps, waterproof material, and the fact that I'm never asked to check it in if the overhead bins are full. Made out of 14 upcycled plastic water bottles and natural cotton, it gets bonus points for being eco-friendly too.
Durable Carry-On
A recent trip to L.A. revealed that the entire MyDomaine team swears by Away luggage . The carry-on features a hidden laundry bag, not to mention, the hard shell means I never think twice about bringing a bottle of wine back from vacation.
Enclosed Lace-Up Shoes
I prefer to wear these Thousand Fell sneakers if I'm traveling for work and want to look a bit more polished. Lace-up sneakers are a must at airports: I can loosen the laces when my feet swell midair and don't feel gross in socks when I have to take them off to pass through security.
Leather Jacket
I always travel with a leather jacket because it makes my outfit look cool and styled, even if I'm wearing sneakers and leggings. This jacket by Topshop has been on my wishlist for months.
Loose-Fitting Top
We all love Madewell's relaxed basics for traveling. This scoop-neck T-shirt is loose and layers well with a leather jacket and cardigan. The price tag might sound steep for a basic tee but the supersoft Peruvian Pima cotton is worth the splurge.
No-Frills Leggings
These shape-sculpting leggings are my travelwear go-to. They are comfy, silky soft, and have a flattering high waist. Best of all, the fabric is quick-drying, which comes in handy when you spill a drink due to unexpected turbulence—or maybe just clumsiness.
Black Jeans
I prefer to wear leggings, but if I'm lucky enough to be flying in business class, I try to look a bit more presentable. Topshop's Jamie jeans are the only ones I wear on a flight. They have so much stretch and a high waistband that's comfortable even if I feel bloated midair.
Quality Headphones
Screaming babies, loud talkers, and a plane's white noise are no match for these B&O Play over-ear headphones. Not only do they muffle noisy passengers and vessels so that I can enjoy my in-flight entertainment in peace, but they look super stylish while doing so. I don't fly without them.
Opt for noise-cancelling headphones to ensure a stress-free flight.
Parachute's Merino Travel Kit makes coach feel like first class. I find the warm blanket makes it easier to get quality sleep on a flight and sometimes wrap it around myself like a scarf when the cabin is cold. Plus, it comes in a zip-up wool bag that is the perfect travel pillowcase.
Waterproof Tote
I've had this Longchamp tote for over five years, and it's lasted countless flights and adventures. The waterproof outer casing means that the contents are protected from any spills, and it folds up into a flat package to be stored in my luggage when I arrive at the destination.
Personal Handbag
This is the perfect crossbody bag for travel: It's small, but still fits a phone and passport, zips up for safety, is made from durable leather, and can be monogrammed so you'll never mix it up with a stranger's bag.

Even though I like to feel comfortable in my clothing during flights, I don’t want to necessarily throw away style either. Check out a few airplane outfit ideas to feel relaxed but still look chic when traveling!
Best Real People Airplane Outfit Ideas
Table of contents.
Mastering the right outfit to wear on an airplane is no easy feat. You have the plane climate and destination climate to consider, and you want to still look stylish while feeling comfortable.
One of the key ways I come up with flight outfit ideas is by creating an interchangeable capsule wardrobe . Not only does it help with simplified packing, which can easily fit into a carryon suitcase, but I can revolve what I wear on the airplane to sightseeing, nature excursions, and even nights out on the town.
A travel capsule wardrobe should be composed of soft, yet packable fabrics that can compress and be organized into packing cubes . And each item should mix and match with each other, be super versatile, so that means I can pack less but still cover all my activities. And, of course, have nice styling details too!
Anyway, recently I felt moved to think about the best airplane outfit ideas due to people-watching at the airport and noting some real-life travel looks that fit well in capsule wardrobes. (They basically rocked!)
Regardless of your style, we’ve recreated these looks that may spark something in you as well:
- Easy Comfort
- Glam Globetrotter
- Easy Breezy
- Rocker Chic
- Pretty in Pink

Now, check out some of the best airplane travel outfits for each of these looks, along with my own!
Best Airplane Outfits for Women
Cardigan | V-neck | Leggings | Boots | Duffel
Easy Comfort Airplane Outfit
This by far is the easiest airport outfit for anyone to duplicate. Easy to wear basics in neutral interchangeable colors plus a few stylish accessories – simple flight fashion!
The perfect formula for an easy to wear comfortable airplane outfit is a classic combo of fitted tee plus leggings. Pair with a cute yet cozy layer such as a long cardigan and shoes that are easy to remove to go through security.
Button Up | V Neck | Jeans | Boots | Earrings | Jacket | Suitcase
Editor’s Tip Pick for an Airplane Outfit
This look is definitely for the ultra-glam jetsetter. I saw this airport outfit on a woman as she went through security and I couldn’t help but stare in awe at her elegance and designer style. I’m not sure I could pull this off but cheers to you if you can!
Dress | Scarf | Sandals | Handbag
Airplane Outfit for a Beach Vacation
One of the loveliest airplane travel outfit ideas—what a great look if you’re headed to a warm destination! I’d definitely carry a cardigan with me in my personal item for the in-flight chills but this is sexy, sophisticated, and a cool take on this season’s neutral – military green.
Boots | Pants | Shirt | Jacket | Bag | Carry-On
First Class Airplane Outfit
This outfit is definitely more up my alley, at least when traveling to cities. The one issue is the metal on the jacket and boots but they’re easy to take off as you go through the security line. Totally worth a little effort.
Trench | T Shirt | Denim | Trainers | Purse
Casual yet Chic Airplane Outfit
Understated elegance, this classic look seems to be a timeless airport outfit in Europe since I saw women of all ages sporting an ensemble such as this. The trench was EVERYWHERE at Heathrow airport in November and rightfully so. It’s an investment piece that’s sure to stand the test of time. Seriously, one of the top outfits to wear on airplane trips!
Boots | Sweater | Jeans | Coat | Handbag
Feminine Airplane Outfit
I absolutely love this airplane style outfit and can imagine an epic picture in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The neutral wardrobe is offset by the bold statement coat which is a great travel strategy when traveling in the winter. After all, your pictures will mostly be of you in a coat, why not make it a great one?
Trousers | Top | Boots
Boho Cozy Airplane Outfit
This look took me by surprise but I really like the unexpected combination. Easy to wear, comfortable pieces with weather-friendly boots , and a few key boho pieces that exude editorial-worthy confidence. Love it!
My Best Airplane Outfits
Now that we’ve given you some real-people inspiration, check out some of my favorite flying outfit ideas from yore, along with the seasons I wore them!
Wearing my All Saints leather iacket with Delsey Suitcase during my flight to Thailand
Fall can be a tricky time of year. I try to avoid going full-on winter and in this case, I was traveling to Thailand during October, so knew I’d shed things like scarves for an airy tank top upon landing.
I love this look because it’s clean and easy to put together. The pants have a give and the coat is fitted but I can move my elbows and arms with ease. A scarf is particularly topical for fall because when there’s a slight chill it instantly warms me up.
My flight from US to England with All Saints leather jacket , | Ankle Boots ( similar ), Delsey suitcase and Rebecca Minkoff backpack
While I tend to wear simple colors, I still like a bit of rock n’ roll edge to my look every so often!
For this airplane outfit, I was traveling during the wintertime from the US to England and wanted some warmth, so I wore a leather jacket and layered a shirt underneath that. I then put on my fave jeans and then slid in some funky low-heeled ankle boots. I was comfy and cozy I tell you!
Blouse | Spanx Leggings | Tory Burch Flats | Longchamp Tote | Delsey Suitcase
This beauty is my new fave airplane outfit that’s awesome for spring (or early fall)!
The look is super stylish but seriously comfortable. I prefer movement and stretch in my pants when I fly and these Spanx faux leather leggings have give in the elastic waistband and knee area. They’re kinda my go-to’s now!
Spanx Moto Leggings | Ankle Boots ( similar ) | Delsey Suitcase | Nomad Lane Bento Bag
Good flight shoes are a must so I seek out flexible flats, comfy boots, or slip-ons that don’t pinch my feet and can be easily removed through security. These Tory Burch Minnie flats were a new buy and so surprisingly comfy and I walked from terminal to terminal with no problems!
Check out reviews for both the Tory Burch Minnie flats and the Spanx faux leather leggings !
Wearing Spanx leggings and black ankle boots as my favorite airplane outfit
Editor’s Winter Favorite: All-Black Chic Airplane Outfit
This is by far, my FAVORITE and best outfit for airplane travel during the winter! It’s warm and layered, so I can take things off/on when needed, and I still feel fashionable.
I was actually going from cold to warm weather, so I wore my heaviest items on the plane and changed once I arrived at my destination of Bonaire. And when I say “heavy” that refers to my coat and boots.
The secret to a capsule wardrobe is to include packable items. My coat is Anatomie, it’s well made and can compress down fairly well, and my boots were a little bulkier but I always look for ones that are as lightweight as possible. And these ones are waterproof so it can handle the elements and still look cute!
Feel free to check out the best waterproof ankle boots for more inspiration!
Jacket (similar) | Top (similar) | Pants (similar) | Slip-ons (similar) | Messenger Bag
I wore this when I hit Europe in the summertime and it was a durable, adorable ensemble I remember fondly!
For me, it’s important to have a comfy flight outfit, and I usually re-wear the same outfit for travel days thereafter, whether I’m flying or taking a train. If I’ve really nailed down an outfit that works for me, then it’s a keeper!
I swear by using lightweight pants and jacket . It has lightweight fabrics that don’t retain moisture so I feel airy in hot climates. For a top, the sleeveless blouse comes with me for every summer trip! It’s comfortable and breathable, and I can layer it with a cardigan or light jacket if need be.
Again, shoes need to feel right, on or off a flight, and I discovered these Skechers Mary Jane slip-ons ( which are now sold out but here’s a similar one ) because readers raved about them for years! Their memory foam insole means my feet feel cushioned all the time!
More of My Airplane Outfits
I hope you found these cute airplane outfits motivating to begin piecing together your own personal capsule wardrobe that can move from “up in the air” to “on the ground!”
Aside from the wardrobe choices above, what stood out above all was that all these travelers had freshly styled hair and makeup, which really adds the finishing touch to even the most casual of airport ensembles. Don’t forget that a good blow dry and mascara goes a long way!

I love these travel outfit ideas! I want to be comfy when I travel, but I also want to look cute and not lazy or sloppy. These outfit ideas are just what I need to help me put together the perfect travel outfit for myself!
Wait! Thanks so much for sharing these outfit ideas, it feels so easy to recreate when you have it with pictures like this. I travel a lot and my outfits can be hit or miss haha
Love these polished yet comfy outfit suggestions. So key to be comfortable yet still stylish even when traveling on those long haul flights. Love them all.
Most of my flights are between the US and Southeast Asia – so I’m usually just focused on how to be as comfortable as possible for 30+ hours. I love Vuori joggers (so soft!!) and a tank top for if I get hot with a jacket for if I get cold. I do need to step up my game when I fly in the States so I appreciate all the stylish ideas!
So many cute options. Thank you for sharing both the suggestions as well as some personal examples. It’s always fun to get new ideas of combinations that will look cute and travel well.
Luv this article! I have followed travel fashion girl for several years. I found a video on U-tube on how to pack for 10-days in Europe using a carry-on bag. Guess what? It worked. Have been using capsule wardrobe concept ever since. I use solid hair products at home too. Always great to see the latest thoughts on fashion forward looks.
This is so helpful! I am very impressed by those that can wear upscale, polished blazers, jeans and dresses when traveling. I appreciate that you have practical but stylish options for us leggings and cardigan sweater gals! Wish the Skechers slip ones were still in stock.
Love wearing my go-to and heavier items on the plane – jean jacket, white tennies for spring/summer, and Chelsea boots for fall/winter. Always bring a layering piece in my personal bag, and tie a scarf on my personal bag too. The temp always seems to fluctuate between boarding and in flight, so it’s nice to have options.
My go-to outfit is leggings and a merino wool t-shirt – super casual, but I want to step up my airport outfits so this post was super helpful with ideas!
I love all of these outfits! To me, the airport is one of the best things about travel and I look forward seeing, walking, exploring as much of it as I can. Therefore, the most important part of the travel outfit are the comfortable shoes!
I’m all about comfort on an airplane. These suggestions are great!
Taking my first International trip in a few months. I’ve never taken a night flight and didn’t know what to wear since we arrive in the morning and will be on the go right away! These choices are all so helpful! Now to only decide, I love them all!
I recently bought a couple of pairs of Old Navy high waisted power soft wide leg pants in navy and in black. These have been perfect for travel. Super comfy on the plane, and they look nice enough for conferences. I love all your looks here!
So many great tips! I’ve used your packing lists to successful pack for a two week Italy vacation in a carryon. I was able to put together plenty of fashionable interchangeable outfits and I’m so grateful that I packed light! My red eye travel outfit was perfect and included layers. A tank, lightweight linen tee, scarf that doubled as a blanket, and a pair of athleta Brooklyn heights joggers. Their joggers and trousers are perfect for flying.
Love seeing all these options! Such variety for any style of airline travel and any type of style. Great inspiration.
Thanks for this article! Having had flight cancellations where I ended up in the same clothes for a couple days, I always think about what outfit would serve me well – versatile, comfortable, and will look okay a bit mussed or wrinkled… These outfits look chic and fit my style, too. Thank you!
Thank you for this article, super helpful and I completely agree! More and more I’m learning about capsule wardrobes and how important they are!
Great ideas for travel outfits…comfort and style. Using a lot of these ideas for my Fall European trip! Appreciate all the great tips
I love all of these ideas for outfits to wear when flying on a plane. Two of my favorite pairs of pants to wear for flying are a pair of Quince linen pants which I purchased upon recommendations from readers of Travel Fashion Girl and also the Eddie Bauer Departure pants. I get so may great ideas for clothing and what to pack, etc. from these blogs.
I love all these options. I struggle with choosing an airport outfit with pieces I can wear again. Thank you!
Love all these great options!
I’ve learned so many great tips from TFG as well as the TFG Facebook group. Thanks so much for all that you do.
Great ideas. I always layer because I am always hot, but then it can get cold in the airport or plane!
What to wear on the plane, especially a long haul vacation, is always a challenge. Stylish yet comfortable, easy to wear yet not sloppy, arriving at your destination not looking like you have spent hours in the plane. Loved the outfits by season! This site never disappoints! What a gem 💎 ✨️!
I love all of these, especially the understated elegance. You have such beautiful taste and have inspired me, not only with my travel wardrobe, but also in my everyday wardrobe!
I love this blog post and go back to it often depending on where I am going. You make planning for travel so much fun, and a different sort of adventure for certain. I also love spotting fellow TFG travelers by their airplane outfits as well.
Love these ideas!! I am traveling out of the country for the first time next month and, thanks to TFG, I have put together my perfect outfit! I will be comfortable and well put together. Ordering the last piece today (also a TFG recommendation). Love this site!!
Love these ideas. Always looking for ways to be comfortable flying, while also looking stylish.
What fantastic ideas! I always struggle the most with plane outfits because I want comfort but don’t want to look sloppy or old! Thank you for doing all the legwork for us!
Love these ideas! Thank you for sharing.
It’s always a challenge finding items that travel well, are comfortable, and leaving you looking “pulled together” after a flight. These are great ideas – thanks!
Loved all of your airplane outfits. Going to South Africa and looking for comfy outfits for 15 hour flight. Great ideas. Thanks.
You ROCK! This ‘1-stop’ travel trove of wisdom, REAL-life help, and tips is a God-send! I’ve ordered many items you & other readers recommend (espec. on major holidays/Black Fri. sales). As a woman on a budget it’s a bit tough w/ all the expenSive sites (Nordstroms, JC Crew) so I appreciate you adding “Quince” as they seem to cut out the middleman/advertising. As the founder of a charity every dollar counts, thus a $340 trench coat is out, yet on Quince it’s much much less (& they have free returns!) I just ordered my 1st item from Quince & looking forward to wearing it as you highly recommended it! Thanks for ALL you do, Cathleen (RN)
Love all the outfits! Is there an updated plus size article for the over age 60 group.
I have my favorite airplane outfit: long pants (lightweight for summer, heavier for winter), sleeveless top, cardigan, tennis shoes with low rise socks.
This is a post that I keep coming back to again and again every time I travel. I have recommended this blog and Facebook group to many of my friends. I consider the Facebook group to be the single most helpful group that I am in. Of course I do live and love to travel lol.
I’m always looking for airport outfit ideas! Love all the different options and styles. Thanks for sharing!
I love the variety of options too as well as the total look that includes everything to create the outfits even lipstick.
I love this post. Especially the black and blue with leather jacket. I love options for women of all ages and sizes. I can never color coordinate, so I appreciate the ideas!!
I honestly think the “airplane” outfit is the hardest one of all – LOL!! Since I’m west coast based all my flights to Europe are 10+ hours so… a VERY long day of travel! The Easy Comfort” outfit is definitely my style – cute, comfortable and practical since it features two bulky and hard to pack wardrobe items – a long cardigan and boots! A variation of this look is going to be my choice when traveling to London and Croatia next spring!
Always love your ideas! I find that my travel outfits change based on where I’m going and what I’m doing once I arrive. But often some iteration of what you’re showing.
I travel in Athleta Brooklyn pants that I found because of this site. They dress up or down and are super comfortable and also can be washed in the shower and dry overnight. Awesome travel staple
While I have yet to do a carry-on-only trip, I’ve learned so many valuable tips from your site! I now have the best travel pants and a wardrobe capsule that mixes and matches beautifully! Thanks for all you do!
All of these are great options, thank you! Soooo much nicer looking and just as comfy as some of the traveling outfits I see at my job as a flight attendant! Love your ideas!
I love these outfit options! I usually wear a short DVF wrap dress with leggings and shoes that are easy to slip on and off for travel. But I definitely want to try a few of these amazing looks.
I have followed Travel Fashion Girl for some time and I cannot even tell you how many times I have read about the best shoes for travel and the best bags (handbags, backpacks) that are secure and stylish. It is because of you that I discovered Travelon. This post about what to wear on the plane with accompanying photos really hits home. We are traveling to Europe at the end of this week and I had vacillated between wearing stretchy Ponte pants that unfortunately have not pockets and blue jeans. After reading some posts on Facebook and seeing these pictures (and knowing how much I rely on pockets), the jeans have won out. Plus, not having to pack them will reduce the weight in my suitcase. Please know that even those of us who are not very chatty usually are reading and enjoying TFG and are very thankful for this resource. May all your journeys be happy ones.
I’ve been following Travel Fashion Girl for some time and love all the tips and real life scenarios. I’m in my 60’s and am mostly into being comfortable with some fashion thrown in. I love that the styles shown are for the younger women all the way up to us traveling seniors! I can always find something here that works for me.
I bought the tee and joggers from Sexy Modest Boutique. I have traveled in them for the past year. They are comfortable, breathable, and I can create different looks with jackets, shoes, scarves, etc…I have black in both pieces. When worn together it looks like a jumpsuit which I like, but I also use each piece with my other clothing to create outfits, so they are part of my capsule. I just recently traveled to Europe and was very comfortable on the long flights (felt like pjs).
I’ve been looking at these. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on wearing for travel.
I love this post! So informative and the photos make such a difference in seeing how it all works together.
I tend to wear long dresses on flights. That way my legs are covered if it’s cold but also, I’m not too hot when I get off the plane. My go to has Spaghetti straps that I paid with a cardigan or jean jacket. That is the ultimate in comfort for me!
I’ve been following Traveling Fashion Girl for the past year. Joined the group after my husband surprised me with a trip to Italy. Love to travel but struggle with overpacking and never seeming to be able to put together an outfit. Your blog has been soooo helpful and I’ve learned so much! Thank you for all the interesting information and truly helpful advice!!! Love it!
I love everything about Travel Fashion Girl! The tips on packing and clothing are spot on. So glad to have found you. Keep traveling!
Your blogs and fb group have helped me be a better Travel Fashion Girl, thank you so much for your advice and suggestions! I love this community.
I wear a lounge set from Duluth Trading Co. on long-haul flights. It’s a tank top with a built-in bra, it’s very comfortable! It’s a monochromatic look so it looks chic.
Such cute outfits! I am inspired to get some new travel outfits!
I’m definitely an easy comfort kind of traveler, haha. My go-to’s are either Fabletics leggings or Anatomie pants (always stretch!) with 2-3 layers on top, typically a tank or tee with a long sleeve shirt or sweater over and optional scarf because I am always cold on the plane but hot in the airport. I’m an options girl for sure! I do try to style up with my tops though so I look put together vs frumpy.
So many good ideas. I love having a pulled together travel look, rather than just any old sweats and t-shirts that I see so much of. That way I can hit the ground running when I arrive and not have to change.
I have read and re-read so many of the blog posts. I have purchased a few items from the FB group and the TFG favorites…and I had considered myself a well seasoned frequent travel expert!
The easy comfort type is the way to go for me. I mostly travel with kids si ability to be comfortable is key. Joggers, loose T-shirt, cardigan or jacket and running shoes.
Every year I fly at least once to Europe and once to Hawaii from KY. At 72, I’ve discovered that my favorite flying outfit is is midi length sleeveless black jersey dress with knee length slits on both side seams. Flexible enough to wear as a jumper, or wear it with a scarf, add a sweater, or a jacket, or a pull over sweater. It’s easier to use the toilet on an airplane but pulling something up then pulling down pants and attempting to keep them off the bathroom floor.
Wish more of the travel clothes came in tall.
Thank you for elevating the idea of what’s appropriate for travel. With so many options, it’s possible to be comfortable and pulled together. It always amazes me to see what fellow travelers wear to board an airplane….and not usually in a good way 😞 Those who take the time to look nice stand out in a positive way, and that’s what I aspire to. So grateful for all of the resources here!!
As someone who wears skirts 300 days of the year, I always have trouble with my airplane outfit- how to style pants?! Thanks for the inspiration!
Love these tips plus all the others you post!
Where is that chunky silver necklace from?
Hi Nikki, it’s from By Aris. I loooooooove their metal jewelry so much!!!! And they evenmade this custom necklace for me and named it after me. 😊 The “Alexandra” necklace: https://byaris.com/products/alexandra-necklace/
Love your blog and all the Facebook group ideas and recommendations!!
Great suggestions. After many years I have finally come up with my go to airport outfit. Long sleeve or short sleeve stripe tee, cardigan or blazer, black comfy pants and loafers with a scarf!
Hello – Thank you! Trying to figure out exactly which long grey cardigan that is in first pic…the Amazon link shows several.
Hi Catherine, I have had a look for you but unfortunately it looks like this cardigan is sold out.
We do have more options on this post which you might like: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/best-cardigans-for-women/
I am flying Tuesday night to Sweden for a 2 week road trip. Your article helped me choose my “flying” outfit from my Classic 12 piece capsule. Thanks to you and all your readers for taking the anxiety out of packing for my first trip since before Covid.
Love the Casual and Chic look featured above. Comfort with a pop of color!
Thank you for giving me inspiration for my airplane outfit. I have been working on it for the past month or so . . . I like to be stylish, yet comfortable. Since it will be a long 36 hours of flying/travel time, I will be changing to some comfy wide leg pants for the overnight leg, but plan on being more stylish for the first part wearing my EB black Ponte pants, Departure 2.0 long sleeve white shirt, and jean jacket. Still deciding on which shoes to wear!
Jeans are not the best thing to wear on a plane. There are lots of comfy trousers with flexibility and look a heck of a lot better. Open toes is a no-no, loafers or boots better choice for footwear. Otherwise, thanks for posting cute travel outfits for all of us!
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us Christina! ?
I love all of these ideas. I do not know if I am just old-school or still believe in fairytales, but I always try and be comfortable while chic. Using my Delsey Chatelet bag ( recommended by TFG) and a faux leather backpack, I keep thinking I will be invited to First Class for a glass of champagne. lol
I found scarves to be a TSA tag. They ask me to remove, so they know you’re not carrying something around your neck. Even a bandanna.
Thank you for sharing your travel experiences with us!
I like the boots in the Editor’s Tip Pick for an Airplane Outfit. They are black with buckles. Can you send the exact link to find these?
Hi Natalie, I am sorry about this but unfortunately the boots featured were the Ugg Simmens boots which have recently become unavailable. They are similar in style to the Ugg Wilde boots featured here: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/best-waterproof-boots/ We are looking to update many of our articles so thank you for bring this to our attention. I am sorry we could not have been of more help ?
Thank you for the other options. Going on an Alaskan cruise and I was told to have waterproof shoes due to the fact it rains a lot.
Hi Natalie, so pleased I was able to help! ? If you need any more tips to help with packing for your cruise, we also have this article: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/what-to-pack-for-alaska-cruise-in-august/ Have an amazing time! ?
Do have any suggestions/articles for international (long haul flights) fashion?
Hi Mary, have a look at our guide for what to wear on a flight for some ideas: https://www.travelfashiongirl.com/what-to-wear-on-a-plane/ I would also highly recommend that you join our TFG facebook group and post your question there: https://www.facebook.com/groups/travelfashiongirls/ Its a fabulous community of helpful female travelers that have the best advice and recommendations to share. Happy travels! ?✈️
Thank you for keeping us updated on the latest and greatest travel styles and your recommendations for all climates and destinations! Can you suggest a great travel 2-piece dress for our warm Texas climate? Would love to mix and match prices while traveling. Thanks!
Thank you for keeping us updated on the latest and greatest travel styles and your recommendations for all climates and destinations! Can you suggest a great travel 2-piece dress for our warm Texas climate? Would love to mix and match pieces while traveling. Thanks!
I love sleeveless, soft cotton midi dresses with a cardigan or blazer and sneakers. We fly to Italy often, so I like to look decent. I learned my lesson about wide leg pants: They touch the floor when using the bathroom! For that reason, when wearing pants, it’s best to wear skinnies or leggings.
Hi there, thank you for sharing your go-to travel outfit with us, sounds comfortable and stylish!!! Happy travels ?
Thanks for that nugget about the wide leg pants. Will save them for a night out for our trip.
Agree about wide leg pants. Slim or regular leg pants work for flights too.
Loved the article, always looking for ways to add a little style to my airplane standbys. Whose says you can’t look good and fly?
Exactly 😉 Thanks Patti!
Thank you for the wardrobe inspo. The air travel outfit ideas are brilliant!
I always travel in quality knits that will keep their shape. The picture at the top of the article looked very unrealistic. If I was wearing that tucked-in cloth blouse, I’d be a wrinkled, sloppy, uncomfortable mess at the end of a 7+ hour flight. Short hops are one thing, but I’ve yet to see someone look so fresh after a trans-continental flight.
Great point Dot! These outfits are only based on people I saw in London so I can’t really be sure of how long they were traveling. Thanks for the feedback!
Nice!! I loved every one of these outfits.
Thanks Linda!
love the military green outfit! so chic and looks comfy..
Awesome! Glad you found one you like!
My favourite! I always wear a dress…mid calf next time. Cardi, trench, rope low wedge sandals. Soo comfy, smart for any age! Dress is always loose fitting.
Any suggestion on where to get the striped wide-leg pants? The link isn’t working.
Hi Wendy! How about these? http://bit.ly/22T8DMk
Love the pictures of you at St. Pancras Station in London. Love all the outfits but especially the pink ensemble for Paris.
Thank you Claire! 🥰
Can’t wait to get ready and travel light for my upcoming trip to Croatia. Thank you for all the great tips!
I’m definitely a cross between easy comfort, french and rocker chic when I travel. Comfort if key, but I would prefer not to look like a slob.
There are so many comfortable clothes available, no need to go to the airport in sweats 😉
Since I don’t check luggage, my first rule is to wear the heaviest clothes. So for my flight from US to Europe in a few weeks, that means jeans, a sweater, and boots. I wish I could wear yoga pants to facilitate sleeping on the overnight flight!
Why not carry your yoga pants in your carryon and change out of your jeans before you board the flight? Or wear leggings under your jeans and then remove them? 😉
I’m traveling from Alaska to Spain and I would shoot myself if i had to travel in tight uncomfortable, deep vein thrombosis inducing jeans 🙂 Pack lighter and leave your jeans in the carryon. Wear leggings on the plane. The difference in weight is minimal.
Hi Irene, do you dive in Alaska? I ask because of your email 🙂 I love scuba diving so that sounds incredible!
Some lovely outfits esp like the pink. But, I wonder how did they manage , fine on the way out, but what about when they arrived….have you seen how small the plane cubicles are, and how long the impatient queues on board can be when travelling ‘cattle class’?
With the exception of the Glam Globetrotter they all seemed pretty easy to get in and out of. They’re all mostly just a nicer version of jeans and tee 😉
I love to ear comfortable but classy outfit in the plane. I have scored some upgrades a. Because I asked nicely and b. Because I looked like I was a perfect fit for Business or First Class. White London shirt and blazer or trench. Black pants and either nice loafers or boots. A scarf or pashmina. Fresh make up and hair coiffed.
Sounds like the perfect first class look!
LOVE the ideas! The military green outfit is tres chic and I can’t get over that pink coat. <3
-Sara http://www.coveritgirl.blogspot.com
Thanks Sara!
I’m the Easy Comfort type, although I really enjoy being all dressed up (especially for short trips). But on a flight, especially a longer one, I prefer to be comfortable…
It would be nice to travel in glamorous outfits like celebrities but how do they deal with the lack of comfort?
Maybe they change into pyjamas for the actual flight?! Not to mention the use of stylists before getting to the arrivals hall of the airport!
My recent autumn/winter travelling outfit of choice is a grey marl jersey dress with 3/4 length sleeves, which I wear with thermal tights (from Marks & Spencer’s) and a merino wool cardigan or sweater. I don’t bother with many accessories when travelling, apart from a scarf – and obviously a coat and gloves/hat if I’m outdoors! This outfit has really worked well for me, even on an uncomfortable overnight long haul flight that was delayed by 3 hours!
Most of the outfits looked pretty comfortable…with the exception of the “Glam Globetrotter” outfit that is! The jewelry, hair, and makeup made the biggest difference from casual to chic. Sounds like we have a similar winter travel outfit – comfortable dress plus tights!
Wish I could find the ARMY Green Dress for the Beach Vacation. It’s EXACTLY what I’ve been lookn for.

30+ Cute And Comfy Travel Outfits
Outfits , Style
Traveling is composed of different mini-adventures: going to the airport, waiting for the next layover, going to brunches, dinners, field trips, night markets, museums, and more. No matter where you are going on a vacation, you want to make sure that you’re dressed comfortably and are ready to travel.
Two crucial factors that you must remember when you pick outfits for travel are context and appropriation. Some places (e.g synagogues, temples, museums, etc) may require you to dress modestly, so doing a brief research on the place you’re visiting is important.
Comfort is also something you should consider when picking an outfit. When you travel, it’s best to keep it on the comfy and safe side. Wear clothes that you have already worn before or try doing a “dress rehearsal” for your new clothes before your trip so you don’t end up with a piece of clothing that’s uncomfortable once you’re already stuck on a plane. You would want to wear something that you know works.
And, of course, you can’t forget about style. Adding a bit of style and thought into your outfit will not hurt unless you take away the comfort from the equation. Always pick your pieces with both comfort and style present.
I’ll share some of my favorite outfit pieces and outfit combos next. Otherwise, scroll ahead to check out 30+ travel outfits for inspo!
Invest in Basics:
Investing in basics can give you the opportunity to pack light on your trip. Bring a couple of “repeatable” pieces that are not easily spotted. It doesn’t mean that you will be wearing one boring outfit the whole way, it just means packing something versatile and something you can mix and match.
This is particularly important if you’ll be traveling a lot. For example, you might be flying a few different times during your trip and taking a train. You don’t need tons of different outfits just to get from one point to another!
Of course, bring in some trendy pieces to combine with your tidy whities and your sleek blacks.
1. Leggings
Leggings are kind of a travel staple. I literally never get on a plane without them. If you’re on a trip, especially a tour or an airport layover, you would want to keep it flexible but stylish. Instead of a dress, wear a cute but casual top (like a crew neck sweatshirt or sweater) over leggings.
2. White/Black Sneakers
Classic white/black sneakers are a travel must-have. You just can’t go without them, especially on a plane or in a car. A pair of classic white/black sneakers are the epitome of comfort and style. Plus, these sneakers can definitely be used during the rest of your trip.
And besides, tired feet are the ultimate spoilsport. Wearing pretty but uncomfortable shoes may cause blisters, keeping your head out of the fun. A snug pair can keep your feet in the best condition.
3. Classic White Tee
An all-around white tee is another wardrobe (or suitcase in this circumstance) must-have. It is as versatile as it can get! Once you’re at your destination, you can wear it with a maxi skirt, tailored pants, shorts, and culottes — the possibilities are endless. Plus, when in doubt, you can always throw on a white tee for your plane ride or road trip.
4. Denim Jacket
No matter the season, a good ol’ denim jacket is the best lifesaver. It is stylish, comfy, and thick — perfect for warming up for a quick nap at the airport. It looks great with black, white, gray, and beige. Pairing it with a floral ensemble is also a good idea as it balances the elements present by adding a classic and neutral show.
5. Lightweight Jacket
Alternatively, you can bring a lightweight jacket to the airport during the summer. The sun may be up and about, but surely, you can’t survive in the airport or the plane with a crop top without catching a bit of a cold. Choose a comfortable but still cute jacket to dress up a pair of leggings.
On the other hand, if you like to keep a light suitcase during colder months, a pocketable down jacket is your best bet.
6. Leather Jacket
A leather jacket is the best alternative to a denim jacket if you’re looking for something thick, stylish, and durable. If your style is edgier, a leather jacket is the best travel companion.
This can also elevate your outfit pretty quickly.
7. Crew Neck Sweatshirt
I’m loving the crew neck sweatshirt right now. It can be layered with so many different outfit pieces (jacket, leggings, etc.) and is so comfy but trendy.
Comfy And Cute Outfit Ideas
Here are my favorite cute and comfy outfit ideas for your road trip, plane ride, or general day of travel.
Denim Jacket + Crop Top + Sweats + White Sneakers
Crop top and sweats? Sloppy. Add in a nice denim jacket and a pair of sneakers? Super stylish. Traveling with comfort and style just takes a little statement piece to stand out!
Black Hoodie + Black Pants + Blazer + Black Sneakers
Want to make an edgy street style appearance as soon as you get to your destination? Adding a little unique twist can make up for it. You’ll be ready to rock the streets when you land.
White Collared Blouse + Knit Sweater + Black Leggings + Black Sneakers
Going on a business trip? You don’t have to wear sweats to stay comfortable during a long trip. Wear a nice knitted sweater over a white collared blouse for a presentable, stylish, and comfy fit. You’ll never have to worry about seeing a client on your flight.
Crop Sweater + High-waist Leggings + Sneakers
Want to keep it simple? You don’t have to make a lot of fuss – especially if you’re rushing about or if you’re just trying to keep it a hundred percent comfy.
Oversized Sweater Dress + Sneakers
Traveling in the cold seasons? An oversized sweater dress and a pair of sneakers can keep you snug and cozy in one go. This is one of my favorite looks for a road trip or train ride during the fall/winter.
Knit Crop Sweater + Black Biker Shorts + White Sneakers
A carefree ensemble. Put on a nice knit crop sweater and a pair of biker shorts so you can move swiftly and freely during long waiting times. I would bet for a Kim Kardashian-inspired ensemble (beige crop sweater + black biker shorts + bulky sneakers).
White Shirt + Ripped Jeans + Jacket on waist + White Sneakers
Don’t know what to wear? Wear what you already have! With an all-around white tee paired with distressed jeans, you can easily come up with a complete stylish fit. For an added accent, you can put on a jacket or sweater on waist that can come in handy when it starts to get cold in-flight.
Black Sports Bra/Crop Top + Leggings + Oversized Coat + Sneakers
Going on a quick trip? A sports bra top underneath a nice oversized coat can give you a chic on-the-go aura – like you’re waiting to get on the next plane for a yoga session in a different city. Love the vibe!
Grey Shirt + Denim Jacket + Black Pants + White Sneakers
You can never go wrong with monochrome. Black pants and a nice loose grey shirt can make a nice outfit for quick coffee trips during a layover. A denim jacket can keep you warm when the A.C. is on high!
Striped B&W Tee + Silk Scarf + White Pants + White Sneakers
Want to travel like a Parisian? A striped tee and a printed silk scarf can give you a classy, chic, and sophisticated aura. Personally, the best outfit to get croissants with.
Vintage Rock Band Tee + Leather Jacket + Washed Denim Pants + Sneakers
If your style is more hipster-like, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t rock a vintage band tee on your trip. The best example of this ensemble would be one of Kendall’s favorite fits. For the jeans, I would prefer to wear distressed black than dyed denim. But it’s all up to you!
White Tee + Black Jeans + Grey or beige Cardigan + Sneakers
Wearing a cardigan is like wearing a blanket. If you’re dreaming of a comfy, cozy trip, you should get invest in a high-quality cardigan.
Where To Buy Comfy Travel Pieces:
Converse is one of the best cult classic brands out there. Starting out as a basketball shoe, it has grown into a stylish wardrobe must-have. No matter what your personal style is, a pair of Chucks can seamlessly blend into it. Plus, they have a variety of colors to choose from. Personally, I would pick their Black All-Star Chucks , but playing with colors is a fun way to add spark to your outfit.
Alternative to the classic All-Star pair, Vans play a healthy competition with Converse. It started out as a skate shoe, eventually growing into a must-have pair in hipster communities. If your style is composed of rock band tees, distressed jeans, plaid — Vans is a good brand to consider.
If you have a bit more budget, a pair of classics from Nike is a great addition to your travel fits. My favorite is a pair of white Air Force casual sneakers that I usually pair with neutral ensembles, monochrome outfits, and printed dresses! It is a bit bulkier than a pair from Converse and Vans, but it balances the volume in some of my outfits.
If you’re a sneakerhead, there are a lot of other choices from Nike as well – a pair of Jordans look good with any comfy travel outfit as well.
American Apparel
American Apparel is good at providing high-quality basics and stylish clothing. A lot of their pieces are inspired by trendy silhouettes, but they are all grounded in versatile and classic elements. Crop tops, skirts, and denim are some of my favorites from them. Plus, they’re a hundred percent American-made!
Uniqlo is a home for affordable high-quality, technical, comfy, and stylish pieces. This is the haven for people who are passionate about packing light. Find pocketable down jackets, windbreakers, vests, and Airism (lightweight) technology tees that are guaranteed accessible — no matter your budget.
H&M has everything for the trendy traveler. Find rock band tees, distressed tops, cut-out crop tops that look laid-back and fashionable. They also have the best selection of sweaters in my opinion. From knits, crops, cotton, and more!
If you’re a fan of DIY-inspired clothing, you can find a lot of distressed jeans and cut-out shirts from the store. I’ve always loved DIY, but being able to buy clothes that are close to my imaginings always comes in handy. And H&M almost always gets what I have in mind
Along with H&M, you can mix up your travel wardrobe with classy and “trendy basics” from Zara. I particularly love their neutral and classy palettes (beige, cream, black, gray). And their coats are always on point!
Nordstrom is home to luxury brands like Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga, Bottega, Veneta, Coach, Burberry, and Jacquemus. I love bringing a small belt bag that can fit my travel needs (passport, ID, wallet, keys, etc) along with a tote where I can fit a book to keep me company but I don’t keep important belongings in a tote where I am most likely to replace. In that way, you don’t end a trip empty-handed.

8 Cute Airport Outfits for Women Who Don’t Sacrifice Style for Comfort
By Jake Henry Smith
All products are independently selected by our editors. If you buy something, we may earn an affiliate commission.
Although the days of flying in your finest clothes are long gone—and thankfully so—the art of airport outfits is still just as important in the age of Instagram. It’s an imperfect science: Dressing too formally can leave you uncomfortable for hours, while going too casual can feel embarrassing. The secret? Mixing high-low staples like sweatpants , cute sweaters , white sneakers , and T-shirts into pulled-together (and extremely comfy) outfits.
Dressing to the nines is out of the question, especially if you're going long-haul, so put down the stilettos (yep, even the most comfortable heels ) and look toward your loungewear collection for inspiration. Comfort is king when it comes to cute airport outfit ideas, but with enough consideration and some creative styling, you won’t look out of place in first class or coach alike. The details— affordable designer bags , oversized sunglasses to mask the lack of sleep on a red eye, and versatile layers to keep you comfortable no matter how much pressurized air is blowing on you in the cabin—make all the difference.
From tried-and-true athleisure looks to meeting-ready ensembles that you’ll want to wear all day long, these are the best airport outfits to wear on your next flight. (And don’t worry: There are plenty of slippers and Amazon leggings to choose from.)
1. The OG airport outfit
Sometimes you can’t beat the classics. These four pieces are iconic for a reason—they each look good and play a key role in getting you to your destination as comfortably as possible. A gray sweatshirt and black leggings will always look good together without causing you to freeze or overheat. A baseball cap, meanwhile, keeps flyaways firmly in place. And sporty sneakers are easy to slip off when you’re going through security and springy when you’re getting through a seemingly endless walk to your gate. Perfection.

2. The comfort-first airport outfit
Flying is stressful enough on its own—you don’t need to make it any tougher for yourself by fussing over an outfit. This best-selling matching set from Amazon comes in 26 colors and has earned rave reviews for its soft, lightweight fabric. Pair it with slippers that are just as durable as sneakers, like Ugg’s celeb-beloved Tasmans , and pat yourself on the back for getting ready in less than five minutes.

3. The plane-to-meeting airport outfit
We’ll be the first to admit that flying in business attire sounds like torture, even if it’s a necessity when you’re headed straight to a meeting or a conference. These soft, stretchy picks, though, will change your mind. Both this relaxed blazer and these smart pants offer just enough give and are made from wrinkle-resistant materials, meaning you’ll look fresh even after sitting for hours. Paired with these comfy cult-fave ballet flats and minimal jewelry, you’ll feel (and look) like a boss.

4. The stealth-wealth airport outfit
Whether or not you’re heading straight from the airplane to a luxury hotel, you deserve to look like that person. This chic airport outfit will serve you well. Zara’s matching turtleneck vest and knit pants just look like money, even if the entire set costs less than $75. Add to the luxe vibe by way of your accessories, including don’t-talk-to-me sunglasses and slightly edgy studded flats. Mentally, we’re in first class.

5. The vacation airport outfit
If you want everyone to know you’re off to somewhere relaxing, this is the airport outfit for you. Pop on a graphic tee and some linen pants that’ll keep you cool once you reach customs—and just keep a sweatshirt or cardigan on hand if you get chilly. Accessorize with some beach-ready picks, including a woven tote bag and some cherry red shades. And while shoes are up to you, you really can’t go wrong with airport-friendly walking sandals .

6. The sporty airport outfit
If travel is your middle name, then a practical jet-set airport outfit is probably more your vibe. This one is ready to sprint to the gate when you are, complete with a sporty-cute quarter-zip, bike shorts with plenty of coverage, and extra-cushy running shoes that feel like walking on clouds. Athleisure has never looked better.

7. The inter-climate airport outfit
When your destination is at a wildly different temperature than your home, layering is your friend. Throw a bold cardigan over a white T-shirt and you should be set for nearly any climate. Meanwhile, denim should get you through most temperatures—and note that these midrise jeans have plenty of built-in stretch to keep you from feeling constricted. Top it all off with easygoing sneakers (with on-trend metallic details) and you’re set.

8. The red-eye airport outfit
Heading somewhere far-flung and catching a night flight to get there? You’ll need a warm and comfortable ensemble to snuggle up in. Instead of going straight for pajamas—a little too informal—opt for a vintage-inspired hoodie and some soft, perfectly cut pants. Fuzzy socks only add more comfort, and a silk eye mask (which offers the same benefits as silk pillowcases ) will help you get plenty of shut-eye.

1. What is the most important thing to consider when selecting a travel outfit?
Packing for a trip can be overwhelming and it’s easy to forget about your clothing choices. When selecting a travel outfit, the most important thing to consider is comfort. Think about items that you are comfortable wearing for long periods of time, such as loose-fitting or stretchy skinny jeans or leggings paired with a breathable top. It’s also important to think about the climate and environment where you’re headed––layering pieces like sweaters and jackets is an easy way to stay prepared for any changes in temperature. Finally, selecting items that are versatile and can be dressed up or down as needed will help you make the most of your wardrobe during your trip.
When in doubt, go for classic pieces that can be easily accessorized with scarves, a sun hat, and jewelry to give them a unique twist. Packing light and packing smart are key when it comes to selecting the perfect travel outfit!
2. What is the most important thing to consider when packing for a trip?
When packing for a trip, one of the most important things to consider is how much luggage you will be bringing. One response to “Fly in Style and Comfort: 10 Airplane Outfit Ideas You’ll Love”
Kevin Erickson, fantastic post as always! Your thought-provoking ideas on management styles quenched my thirst for knowledge, and leads me to ponder about horizontal management versus hierarchical structures. Is one inherently better than the other, or does it largely depend on company size and business nature?
Your section on radical transparency resonated with me. As a manager at a tech start-up, radical transparency has been a real game changer for us, improving employee motivation and decision-making.
Also valuable was your angle on values-based management. Indeed, shaping a business culture driven by shared values truly empowers the team.
To provoke thought, have we considered the effects of such management techniques on employees’ psychological safety and creativity? An interesting tangent, wouldn’t you say? I enjoyed the reading and looking forward to your thoughts. Regards, Ally 😊

Some may argue that traveling by plane is an occasion to dress up, but for most of us at Traveler, comfort is the main priority when planning a transit day ensemble: You want something loose enough that you won't need to readjust (or worse, unbutton) a few hours into a flight or road trip, but put-together enough to feel that you've made a switch out of pajamas and into a true outfit. Luckily, there is no shortage of loungewear sets these days.
Read on for 35 of the best loungewear sets to add to your travel wardrobe , many of which are sitting in our editors' dresser drawers. From upscale sweatsuits to cozy cashmere knits, they'll keep you comfy whether you're sitting on a plane, train, or in the passenger seat, and will get a re-wear on lazy vacation days when the only item on your to-do list is lounging around the Airbnb .
This article has been updated with new information since its original publish date. Additional reporting by Meaghan Kenny.
The Aerie LumberJane collection has been one of the brand's more popular releases. The collection features breathable, lightweight waffle fabric in shirts, shorts, and now polos. The LumberJane polo and short set are perfect for lazy vacation days spent shuffling around in your slippers . Each piece has raw seams along the sleeves, sides, and back that gives it a more lived-in look.
Buck Mason is at the forefront of elevated essentials. The Vintage Interloop set features an oversized crew that has a relaxed fit all around and thinly ribbed stiching on the cuffs to give more structure to the slouchy sleeves. The French terry sweatpants are slimming and so comfortable. Each set looks slightly different than the other, thanks to Buck Mason's Venice Wash technique that creates its cool, vintage look.
We're always raving about Girlfriend Collective, a size-inclusive, sustainably- and ethically-made brand. This set is made from half recycled, half organic cotton. They're available in your classic neutral colors, as well as this rich wine hue.
Kim Kardashian's shapewear and loungewear brand Skims never misses when it comes to cozy sets. The Cotton Fleece collection is a more sporty take on classic loungewear. The soft fleece shorts have an interior drawstring at the waist for a more customizable fit.
This chic pullover and sweat shorts both don the recognizable Alexander Wang logo. While the set is one of the trendiest pieces on our list, you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how soft the heavy brushed cotton terry is. Style the set with a small crossbody bag and pair of chunky dad sneakers for quick errands or walks around the city.
You can never go wrong with a simple high-waisted pant and tank top combo. The Anrabess sleeveless set is lightweight and thin, making it supremely packable in any weekender bag or carry-on. At just $30, it is one of the most affordable loungewear sets on our list.
Is there anything easier than throwing on a jumpsuit? Spanx AirEssentials jumpsuit is one of the brand's bestsellers—and it's just been restocked in more colors. We love the drawstring tie at the waist that gives the jumpsuit a more fitted and flattering look.
Traveler 's commerce producer, Paris Wilson , swears by Roots' loungewear. “I've been raving about Roots for years. It's hard to find a brand that doesn't skimp on quality,” she says. The Luxe Crew and Pintuck pant are made from a cotton and cashmere blend. While the material gives it a more chic look, the fit of the set is more relaxed and loose. This can easily be dressed up or down, and would look great with a sleek pair of white sneakers .
The loose fit of the Ramona sweatshirt compliments the brand's drawstring waist Jane shorts. The rouched terry fabric on the inside of each garment keeps you warm and cozy without overheating. As warmer days approach, the yellow dip-dye design is a must-have for your spring and summer wardrobe .
If you're looking for a more polished look, the Malibu set is for you. The set is made up of the Frank & Eileen Audrey Capelet and the Catherine Sweatpant . Each piece is made from 100 percent cotton triple fleece, making it incredibly soft. It's the perfect set for a long road trip or a chilly plane.
The Cool Stretch collection from Pact is made from breathable organic cotton. The soft, thin layers are a go-to summer fit when temperatures are high and you just want to chill inside. The tank top and shorts set comes in seven colorways and can be paired with Pact's Airplane cardigan or a cozy hoodie .
If you prefer something a little more roomy, the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant set from This is J is for you. It’s perfect for long-haul flights and road trips where comfort is at the top of your list, but you don’t want to step out in your pajamas. The soft, moisture-wicking fabric will keep you dry and comfortable whether you’re snuggled up on a train or plane.
This set is made for cold weather. The thick fabric will keep you warm and toasty whether you’re hanging inside with friends or out sightseeing. The top has a dropped shoulder sleeve that looks more oversized while the pants feature a wide-leg with a drawstring waist.. The set comes in 10 solid colors that are easy to pair with a slip-on sneaker or Ugg boots .
The soft ribbed knit of the Muse hoodie and sweatpant offers a lot of dimension to the duo. The set is lightweight enough that it can be worn over workout clothes without any bulkiness. The high-waisted joggers pair well with the cropped hoodie and offer a more chic silhouette.
You’ll be comfortable from head to toe with this ultra-soft pullover and pant set. The pants have a classic ‘70s wide-leg silhouette accompanied by an elastic waistband, while the pullover has a polo-inspired collar and a slightly cropped hem. An all-white set never goes out of style and will look great with a white sneaker .
The name tells you everything you need to know. The Coziest Cashmere Blend hoodie and jogger are ultra-soft. The fabric is warm yet breathable and the fact that it’s a blend gives you peace of mind that it won’t be ruined in the washing machine.
Traveler editors swear by Lunya's washable silk pajamas and cashmere Travel Set . The brand’s Silksweats complete its holy trinity of comfort. With a sherpa interior and thermoregulating abilities, you'll be comfortable without overheating in this set. Bonus: Both pieces are reversible so you can have two looks for one.
There's something to be said for a zip-up sweatshirt, even if they've largely been replaced by pullovers of late. For one, if your temperature flips from chilly to warm, you can regulate without bothering your seatmate while trying to take off your hoodie. We're a fan of the sweatpants, too: the deep pockets, cuffed ankles, and cashmere fabric are all plusses.
A new addition to OV's ultra-soft, lightweight, and durable CloudKnit line-up : this boxy T-shirt with a slightly cropped fit. It comes in charcoal, navy, mocha, fog white, and jasmine blue, all of which will match your go-to black leggings or joggers .
Awarded one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2020, I was eager to put on Cozy Earth's ultra-soft joggers, and am happy to report they lived up to the hype. Made of a mix of premium viscose from bamboo, acrylic, and spandex, they're smooth and cool to the touch, and have a loose but not baggy fit. I've worn them a ton on WFH days, and would happily fly in them. Snag a matching pullover if you like the matching set look.
San Francisco–based Quince launched a maternity collection, which includes a nursing-friendly long sleeve and lounge joggers with an adjustable drawstring waistband. All of the collection's pieces are made with renewable materials like Tencel lyocell, a biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp; mulberry silk, a hypoallergenic and thermoregulating fabric; the company's SuperSoft fabric, a blend of recycled polyester and tencel; and sustainably- and humanely-sourced Mongolian cashmere.
Outdoor Voices’ All Day hoodie and sweatpants set really is made to wear from dusk to dawn. It aims to be the softest pair of sweats you will ever wear, and stacks up, with a CloudKnit fabric that feels as cozy as your most worn-in pair of pajamas. The sweatpants are high-rise and more fitted toward the bottom to give the most flattering look possible, too. The pieces can be bought individually and come in six different colors, from neutral charcoal to a rich Kalamata purple.
While former Traveler editor Jessica Puckett's favorite cashmere set has since sold out, Cuyana's Pima outfit is another great option for plane travel and lounging, particularly in warmer environments, as the material is soft, smooth, and breathable.
Former Traveler editor Corina Quinn turned us on to Vuori's DreamKnit Collection hoodie and jogger set. “The DreamKnit feels like a cloud—it's so soft and cozy, yet lightweight, so you don't get too hot or too cool in them,” she says. “On top of that, because there are a few different models of jogger pants and tops, my friends and I have all found a model that's flattering for us.” For a pair of sweats that make you feel like you’re wearing a real outfit without actually doing so, Vuori’s unbelievably soft, stretchy sets are an easy pick.
Friend + Folk is a size- and gender-inclusive brand that prioritizes a limited carbon footprint, and puts it into practice by way of free carbon neutral shipping, recyclable and plastic-free packaging, limited batch-production, and more. The Joon joggers are a favorite—the fit is roomy and comfortable yet still tailored, and the zippered pockets are ideal for stashing AirPods, lip balm, and other odds and ends without worrying they'll fall out as you dash through the airport. Pair them with the Perry pullover and you've got a new airport uniform.
Lululemon may be best known for its leggings and workout wear, but don't skip over the brand's loungewear. This set is made out of a smooth Softstreme material that is stretchy and feels smooth against your skin. It's a great loungewear set to wear if you run hot.
We love this Madewell number, made of a fleece-like Superbrushed terry fabric. Wide legs and a loose fit make it just the kind of thing we want to wear on long travel days, and the patch pockets are much appreciated. Since it does have tank top-style straps, bring a cardigan or other added layer for the plane.
Some loungewear is better suited for inside wear, like this cozy ribbed shorts set. Wear the pullover, with its bell sleeves and slit in the back, over leggings for long-haul flights. The stretchy shorts have a fairly short inseam, so they'll likely be more comfortable as a sleeping short or loungewear piece to change into when you arrive at your hotel or rental house.
This two-piece set might be the closest thing to sleepwear on this list, and yet is still cute enough to feel confident while wearing through the airport. It comes in a dozen colors, from basic heather gray to bold indigo blue, and pairs slouchy, relaxed fit pants with a scoop-neck button-up henley.
Sure, all sweatpants are designed to be comfortable, but the cotton, modal, and spandex fabric Knix uses takes things up a notch. The smooth, cooling, and slightly stretchy fabric feels fantastic against skin and looks a bit more put-together than typical sweatpant material.
Most loungewear tends to follow the same cut, so we appreciate Monos, a luggage brand , shaking things up when delving into clothing. This set is as soft as any sweatpants out there, with a mid-length wide-leg pant and a short sleeve V-neck tee that's just slightly cropped.
Anything labeled Signaturesoft nails both the rest day and flying-comfortably mood we're going for. The top and bottom have a streamlined shape and the sweatpants are tapered at the ankle. Both pieces are made of a comfortable rayon, acrylic, and spandex mix, so you’ll feel cozy while still looking put together. The sweatshirt and sweatpants can be purchased individually and come in nearly a dozen colors should you want to mix and match, and the sweatshirt passes the video-conferencing-chic test, in that it looks more like a standard sweater than workout wear.
Not a hoodie person? You might like this cowl-neck top, which comes with cropped pants, both made of a super soft jersey and spandex fabric. Shop the set in gray, sky blue, strawberry, or buttercream, and wear it on your next overnight flight to feel like you're in pajamas.
You may never want to put on pajamas again after wearing Softwear's Lounge Set. The fabric is buttery soft inside and out. Both the pullover and joggers are tailored and fitted with a clean silhouette—the top could pass for a normal sweater—while still being ultra soft. Plus, it’s long-lasting: The sustainable fabric is pilling-resistant and made to keep its shape after every wear.
Made for pregnant or nursing moms, this Everly Grey set is designed to fit a baby bump and make nursing easier with side openings on the top. Made of stretchy fabric with cuffed ankles and wrists and pockets on the hips, it's a loose, ever-so-slightly tailored look you'll wear again and again. Order it in one of four neutral colors: black, charcoal, oyster pink, or denim blue.

It's in the bag
Don't underestimate the power of a functional bag. A duffel or backpack is a sensible choice for travel, as either option is often equipped with plenty of pockets and straps for hassle-free packing and carrying. Make the most of this travel look by thinking monochromatically , adding socks and a hat of the same hue for a colour-coordinating effect—and statement-making impact.
If you're heading somewhere warm (beach holiday, perhaps?) —and you want to get out of your airport outfit after landing—consider tossing an athletic dress, a colour-coordinating cardigan and a pair of strappy sandals in your carry-on bag for a quick glow-up.

Travel + Leisure / Daisy Rodriguez
Before I became a travel journalist, I was a buyer in the fashion industry for over 15 years, working with brands such as Brooks Brothers, Michael Kors, and the former Liz Claiborne, so you can say that I have a keen eye for style, quality fabrics, and a good fit. These days, I put my former skills to work in a different way. On average, I travel twice a month and it’s not unusual for me to be zipping through the airport on any given day, so I pack light and maximize the outfits that I’m taking with me.
At first, it wasn’t easy to streamline my packing lists for each destination; I was always stressed that I had left an essential top, pair of bottoms, jacket — you name it — at home. But, with the help of my former fashion buyer brain, I developed the ultimate travel capsule wardrobe , complete with three foolproof outfits that help me create dozens of looks (without needing to check a bag , I might add). Here are my favorite mix-and-match separates that suit any type of trip itinerary — both work and play — along with some must-have accessories that'll widen your wardrobe horizons.
Duer LuxTwill Trucker Jacket
Duer luxtwill high-rise trousers, minnow navy and dusty red stripe sweater.
I’ve been a huge fan of the Canadian clothing company Duer for several years now, and its LuxTwill Trucker Jacket and matching High-Rise Trousers are one of my favorite outfits to bring on work trips. Both the jacket and pants are made of 98 percent cotton and 2 percent elastane, so the pieces have a structured look while allowing for some stretch for comfort.
While it’s a great set, I also love to wear the jacket as a separate, over dresses, leggings, or jeans. And, to save suitcase space, I'll sport it on the plane. I've found that it's a versatile essential that’s great for work and play destinations. The trousers pair well with knits as well as button-front tops. I especially love pairing it with a slouchy novelty sweater like my favorite one from Minnow ; it's an excellent transition piece for spring that works with denim, pants, skirts and shorts and is constructed of a dreamy cotton-cashmere blend, making it super soft and comfortable.
The timeless nautical pullover is also cozy, but not bulky and the dolman sleeves are fashionable and functional, allowing you to move freely when traveling. I own two of these sweaters and find myself bringing them on work trips and vacations because they match with nearly everything that I own.
To copy the look for less, pair this cropped jacket (on sale for $24) with these $40 high-waisted trousers and this nautical-inspired crewneck sweater that's currently $31 — all from Amazon.
PrettyGarden Two-Piece Sleeveless Vest and Wide-Leg Pants Set
I’m in love with Amazon's two-piece sets because not only are they available at amazing price points, but they're super sleek and can be styled in so many ways. Here, the vest is drapey and offers a sophisticated and elegant look, although it also works well with denim; when I'm home, I like pairing it with my Everlane Super-Soft Relaxed Jeans for a laidback SoCal vibe, but when I'm on the go, it goes perfectly with the Duer LuxTwill High-Rise Trousers featured above (and I can layer the brand's LuxTwill Trucker Jacket on top or pair the PrettyGarden trousers with my Minnow sweater ).
The bottoms are like palazzo pants and flare slightly, with a loose fit throughout. I like that they aren’t too tight, making them perfect for work meetings, long travel days, and itinerary-heavy days. They also have functioning pockets that are great for holding your essentials while on the move. The set comes in eight colors and sizes range from S to 2XL. Both pieces are machine washable; I’ve put them to the test in the wash several times and they come out looking just as good as new. A word of advice: Make sure you hang them to dry or lay them flat so they retain good shape.
For a more tailored look, you can get the set with a tighter-fitting cropped vest for $52. But, if this look is too business casual for your destination, I also pulled some stunning two-piece sets; check out the now-viral Anrabess Short-Sleeve Mockneck Sweater Set on sale for $40, the tropical getaway-ready Anrabess Linen Tank Top Matching Set that's currently $30, or the PrettyGarden Rib Knit Matching Set , which trades trousers for an elegant maxi skirt.
Vuori’s Short-Sleeve Lux Crew Jumpsuit
Vuori makes my favorite activewear, so it’s no surprise that this super-flattering jumpsuit is on my list of favorite travel outfits. The jumpsuit's performance knit is so comfortable, especially in the summer when it feels good to wear loose-fitting clothing, but is also perfect for travel days, road trips, as well as lounging poolside (save room in your carry-on by using it as a swim cover-up).
To make this outfit extra cool, slip the brand’s Halo Performance Hoodie over it when heading to a Pilates class or an early morning stroll. You can also wear it with a cropped jacket (like the Duer trucker jacket that I mentioned earlier) for a night out on the town. When the dress code calls for something cozier, I'll layer my Minnow sweater on top so it feels like I'm wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants — even though the combo looks effortlessly chic.
If you’re not a fan of onesies, don’t fret. Vuori's Villa Wide-Leg Pants can be paired with its Energy Top to serve a similar look. And, if you're looking for more budget-friendly jumpsuits, over at Amazon, you can get the Anrabess Short-Sleeve Crewneck Jumpsuit for $40.

Best Accessories for Travel Outfits
Now, it's time to put the finishing touches on these travel outfits. Similarly, my go-to accessories can be mixed and matched to be styled with different looks, ensuring that everything in your suitcase is functional and will get plenty of use on your trip. Below, you'll find my favorite travel shoes and travel purses to tie your outfits together.
Kizik Venice Slip-On Sneakers
A while back, I kept seeing these amazing hands-free slip-on shoes that you can put on and take off without having to bend down or fuss with laces. The Venice slip-ons are by far my favorites. They’re easy to slide right into, super lightweight, and hassle-free to pack. I love wearing them on long flights because they don’t feel constricting (plus, they make going through TSA security a breeze and I can easily slide out of them once I'm in my seat). And, when I'm at my destination, their cushy insoles and grippy rubber soles keep my feet comfy and supported when I'm on the move.
They go with everything and really elevate any outfit. I'll pair them with my Duer set for more casual affairs and use them to make my PrettyGarden vest-trouser duo more playful after work meetings. And, of course, they're the long-lost soulmate for my Vuori jumpsuit , especially on travel days.
Sapahn Jori Crossbody Bag
I used to be partial to labels and monogrammed bags, but I’m currently loving the Jori Crossbody for day-to-night use. During a recent trip to Santa Barbara, I found myself using it instead of my trusty Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag — which says a lot . Although it looks small, it actually fits everything that I need for a busy day on the go; I can store a small notebook, wallet, makeup compact, and smartphone in there without effort.
The best feature of this bag is that you can switch out the straps to give it an entirely different look, making it transitional from work to play. There are two pockets inside for organizing smaller items like lipsticks or receipts. It comes in four colors, although the khaki hue is my favorite because it’s great for spring and it goes with everything — whether I'm dressed up in my PrettyGarden vest and wide-leg trousers , dressed down in my Duer LuxTwill Trucker Jacket and matching High-Rise Trousers , or out grabbing coffee in my Vuori jumpsuit .
Amazon is filled with leather crossbody purses that are equal parts versatile, functional, and stylish — starting with the Gladdon Crossbody Bag (that's on sale for $16), the $13 FashionPuzzle Small Dome Chain Strap Crossbody Bag , and the Afkomst Crossbody Bag , which has a similar gold buckle detail in the center. For extra flair, I also spotted this on-sale Fossil crossbody that has a color-blocking print and a roomy build.
Milmo 1813 Tote Bag
Milmo's 1813 isn’t just another tote bag, it’s a lifesaver for travel. I often use it as a personal item (paired with my Vuori jumpsuit ) when flying because of its versatility and roominess. I also love that it has a removable and washable interior liner that easily comes out with snap buttons; I don’t have to over-worry about spills and messes (the company also offers a two-year warranty on any defects outside of normal wear and tear).
Its durable rope handles, which attach along the lower half of the bag, can hold up to 300 pounds, which is why it excels as a travel bag. As a tote, it's elegant, structured design is boardroom-ready (with my PrettyGarden two-piece set) , but it can also be worn as the perfect off-duty bag thanks to its convertible crossbody straps (I can sport it around town in the Vuori jumpsuit or Duer duo when I want to be hands-free). The exterior zip pockets allow for quick and easy access to your essentials while in line at the airport or a local eatery. It comes in four colors, but my choice is green.
Over at Amazon, you can replicate the look by adding the KouLi Buir Quilted Tote Bag ($40) or Missnine Laptop Tote Bag ($30) to your cart. But, if you want vast color options, I recommend the Wrangler Vintage Convertible Tote , which is available in 33 hues and is currently on sale for $49.
Everlane Day Glove Flats
While I’m a huge fan of my Mansur Gavriel flats , I usually opt for Everlane's Day Gloves when I'm traveling because they’re just so comfortable and sleek. Praised for their buttery soft leather, the shoes mold to your feet for easy movement and endless support. I can take on a full day of walking wearing them. The rubber soles create a solid foundation and provide grippy traction on uneven and slick surfaces.
Made in an Italian factory, they come in 13 colors and sizes from 5 to 11, with the option for narrow or comfort width. I own several colors and rotate them when traveling. Plus, they hardly take up any room in my suitcase, which is always a win if you're a carry-on-only traveler, and can help spruce up professional outfits like the PrettyGarden vest and wide-leg pants , or make laidback styles like the Duer trucker jacket , matching pants , and Minnow sweater dressier.
Their comfort is hard to match, but Amazon shoppers assure that the Trary Mary Jane Flats are another supportive option (and they're only $35). You can also get the Square-Toe Ankle Strap Ballet Flats , which are teacher-approved , from DreamPairs for $33. Knit flat fans can score the popular Frank Mully Pointed-Toe Flats for $36 thanks to a limited-time deal.

Below, we’re rounding up the best AirTag wallets we’ve found as well as what you should consider before buying one and why you should trust Good Housekeeping. Consult our guides to the best smart wallets , laptop sleeves and iPhone cases for more tech finds.
Featuring a pebbled exterior, this Typecase wallet is made from cowhide leather, according to the brand. What sets it apart from other wallets is it has two pockets to safely secure an AirTag : one allows you to keep an eye on the tracker from the exterior and the other is a more discrete flap if you prefer your AirTag to stay hidden. It also has two bill compartments, six horizontal credit card slots, two vertical pockets and an ID window with a thumb slot.
To feel more secure, there’s a RFID-blocking layer that claims to keep out radiowave interception of personal data without interfering with the AirTag signal. Some reviewers state that the interior AirTag compartment interferes with the room in the bill compartment, but there should still be enough space for bills. We also love that it comes in eight sleek leather colors and the bifold design makes it easy to tuck into a pocket or purse.
Coming in nine different hues, including a light blue and pink, this minimalist wallet is slim enough to fit in a back pocket. Although it’s compact, it still manages to hold one ID card, five credit cards, six folded bills and an AirTag. The built-in holder is at the front of the wallet, so you can keep an eye on it and see that it’s still there. Made of faux leather, it only clocks in at around $12 and it’s easy to wipe down clean. Although it’s not built with RFID-blocking technology, reviews say they still feel secure with it.
Designed to fit in most cardholder slots, this AirTag holder measures a svelte 0.1-inches in thickness. The holder also won't disrupt your AirTag's signal, and we like that you can use water for easy-cleaning without getting the AirTag itself wet. Although this option doesn't hold other items like your credit card or cash, it conveniently keeps your AirTag in one place so that it doesn't slip out of your wallet. It's made of durable plastic and even has a key ring hole, so you can clip the holder to your key chain.
If you only want to add an AirTag to your current wallet rather than purchasing an AirTag-specific wallet, this insert is your best bet. While slipping the tracker in a regular wallet can result in some bulging or put the AirTag at risk for falling out, this slim, flexible insert can fit in a card slot discreetly and securely hold an AirTag. It’s shorter than a credit card so it won’t pop out and is about the thickness of two cards, according to reviews.
For those worried about their AirTag slipping out of your wallet, this one is for you. With the included screwdriver, you’re able to r emove the outer plate of the wallet and securely place the tracker — plus there’s two included stickers to prevent the AirTag from scratching. Made of aluminum, it also features RFID-blocking and has the capacity to hold up to 15 cards. It doesn’t have a cash strap, but you can purchase an upgraded model if you need one.
A sleek polycarbonate exterior combined with RFID-blocking technology in this wallet will make you feel like both your money and AirTag is secure. Because the wallets itself is made of aluminum, you can feel extra secure knowing you can see the RFID-material in action. It holds up to 12 cards in the interior, and a stretchy strap over circular silicone pads holds bills in place. You can pop your AirTag in the detachable polycarbonate cover so you’ll never misplace your wallet, which is especially important considering its slim size.
A bifold wallet is great for someone who carries a lot of cash or cards, and this AirTag-compatible option allows for the tracker to slide into the front of the wallet, which also has six card slots, an ID window and a bill pocket . Some of the cards can be seen from the exterior of the wallet, but you’ll also feel secure knowing there’s RFID-blocking built-in. It’s made of a soft horse leather that comes in a rainbow of 14 colors to best suit your style.
When traveling internationally, your passport is the last thing you want to lose. This passport/wallet/AirTag holder combo is the perfect solution to calm any travel worries . Made of vegan leather, it has three card compartments, one passport pocket and one vaccine card slot. You also have two options for stashing your AirTag: a pocket attached to the snap closure or a keychain you can hook onto the passport holder — or elsewhere if you'd like. It has a slim profile too, but some reviewers state it can be a tight squeeze if you add too much.
Adventurers need to keep a hold on their wallets too! This wallet for WXM might look a bit bulky but the brand claims that it’s made of military-grade materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum alloy that makes it durable and surprisingly lightweight. Aside from withstanding a couple of drops, it can hold up to 15 credit cards, has a money clip, uses RFID-blocking technology and has a slot for your AirTag. It comes in nine different color options, including brighter ones to balance out the rugged vibe.
It's pricey, but this longer wallet is made with premium American leather, has a high-quality option feel and is available in black or brown. It features a custom pocket to tuck your AirTag into to track your wallet that adds nothing more than an imperceptible bulge. It can hold up to 12 cards, features RFID-blocking technology and has a money clip for cash. The neatest feature might be the sliding pop-up cardholder that lifts up the cards with the push of a button.
How we chose the best AirTag wallets
To find the AirTag wallets that were up to par, our editors considered a variety of sizes that would still be able to fit in a pocket or small purse. When choosing the best ones, we assessed where the AirTag was held, read reviews and looked over product claims to assure that the closure was tight and the construction wouldn’t create too much of a bulge in the wallet itself.
With about four hours of research and product consideration, there were a few key factors we looked into. While we considered all materials like leather, aluminum and polycarbonate to offer options at different price points, we favored those that were durable and high quality construction that wouldn’t fall apart. We prioritized models that feature RFID-blocking technology for an extra level of security. To accommodate for different kinds of people (cash vs. card), we choose both bifold and cardholder options.
What to look for when shopping for AirTag wallets
Before picking an AirTag wallet there are a few things to consider to best match your lifestyle and how often you’ll likely need to search for your wallet.
✔️ Material: The material you choose is both reflective of your aesthetic choice and the durability of the wallet. Leather is one of the most popular options and is quite durable, and aluminum is one of the strongest ones. For something a little cheaper, you may want to opt for synthetic materials like polyurethane, though they may not last as long.
✔️ Size: You want your wallet to easily fit into a pocket or purse, but not be too small to misplace (although that’s what the AirTag is for, right?). Thickness is also important; anything thicker than 0.5 inches might be too large to fit into a back pocket, especially after filling it with cards and money.
✔️ Security: To protect your credit card data from being stolen we recommend using a wallet with built in RFID-blocking, which uses a thin layer of carbon fiber or aluminum to block the electromagnetic signal emitted from your card. This can help you protect the personal and financial information that is stored on your credit cards from being accessed from thieves. Typically it's hidden under the leather material of the wallet or is built into the metal material, depending on the kind you choose.
✔️ Type: Some of the most popular options for wallets include bifold, card holders and money clips. If you’re someone who wants to carry cash, bifolds offer more storage for paper money. A cardholder will offer more slots for cards and some have clips to stash a few dollars as well. They might not hold as much, but they’re typically sleeker and more minimal.
✔️ Capacity: Depending on how many cards you have, card capacity for smaller wallets can be around three, while a larger wallet can hold nearly a dozen. Note that the AirTag slot can take up room where a card could be held as well.
