Explore Bath's Architectural Marvels

Perfectly preserved, cream-colored Georgian buildings will signal you’re arrival in the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath. Home to a natural hot spring, this ancient enclave was put on the map thanks to Roman ingenuity with the construction of the impressive Roman Baths in A.D. 60. By the 18th century, it had transformed into an opulent and relaxing spa destination for England’s elite. Enjoy a visual tour of the city’s elegant architecture from the comfort of your coach. You’ll have free time to set out and explore other highlight’s on your own, such as the 2,000-year-old Roman Baths, the Abbey Tower,or the the Jane Austin Museum. Windsor and its Royal Elegance

Saving the most regal destination for last, you’ll end the day with a visit to the town of Windsor. This historic market district is nestled next to the River Thames, but it’s probably best known as home to the magnificent Windsor Castle. This towering residence has served as one of the official homes of the monarchy for over 1,000 years. Your ticket includes access to the state apartments, reception rooms, and the Royal Chapel of St George, the final resting place of many famous English monarchs.

Windsor Castle is a working Royal residence, and as such can be subject to last-minute closures. Please be aware there will be a walk of approximately 15 minutes from the coach park to Windsor Castle. Parts of the walk are uphill and may not be suitable for passengers with mobility issues.

St George’s Chapel is closed to visitors on Sundays as services are held throughout the day so you will not be able to enter the chapel. Access to St George’s Chapel may be limited on busy days and during service.

On Tuesday & Wednesday, Windsor Castle does not open. On these days we will still visit Windsor Town but entry to the Castle will not be possible. We will include entry to the Roman Baths instead, and then when in Windsor your guide will conduct a walking tour of this beautiful, historic town which will include photo opportunities of the Castle. (applicable to Tuesday & Wednesday only)

The Castle is built high above the River Thames, and on entering the Castle, you will head straight to the majestic State Apartments and witness the famous art collection on show; the apartments are used today by the Queen for Royal receptions and important State occasions. You will also be allowed to explore the magnificent Castle grounds, including seeing the medieval St. Georges Chapel, which began construction in 1475 by Edward VI (please be aware that, unfortunately, viewings are restricted on Sundays due to Sunday Service). St George’s Chapel is the where the Queen and Royal Family go for worship, it is also where King Henry VIII is buried along with other royals. It is also thought of as the first and most impressive example of medieval church architecture found in England. It is also the place where many English Kings and Queens are buried, this includes the very famous Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour.

Stop Number Two – Visiting the stunning City of Bath

As part of this most popular of tours, you will visit the City of Bath, famed for its Roman-built Baths – but did you know it was also at the epicentre of the wool industry in the middle ages? While driving around Bath, you will be given a panoramic tour of Bath; you will see some of the most extraordinary and unique architecture in the UK and across Europe. You will visit the magnificent Bath Abbey, the Circus, the Royal Crescent, Assembly Rooms and of course the Pulteney Bridge. You will be shown the Roman Baths which are built around the thermal springs; these springs have been providing water for over two thousand years. Going back to Roman times, a great Temple was erected next to this sacred spring; it was believed that the water from it had healing properties and therefore, it attracted visitors from all across the Roman Empire.

Stop Number Three – The wonder that is the ancient stones of Stonehenge

One of the leading UK Attractions, the UNESCO Worrld Heritage Site of Stonehenge is shrouded in mystery, it is a fantastic feat of engineering and is defined as one of the most important prehistoric sites in England. Stonehenge is not only highly significant in terms of archaeology, it is also believed to have an astronomical role and is also a place of significant spiritual importance. It will always be clouded in mystery, and early legends link Stonehenge with Merlin and King Arthur. Still, more recently, in the last hundred years, the midsummer sunrise has brought pagan groups and followers of the Ancient Order of Druids.

Tour End Point – London Victoria Train Station

The tour will finish back outside of London Victoria Train Station; this gives you easy access to National Rail and Underground trains, enabling you to get to where you need to be in the evening. You can expect the tour to arrive back at the station at approximately 8:30 pm, but this can change depending on weather, traffic and other factors.

Important Info: Why should I pre-book my tickets or tours?

You may be unable to reserve tickets for Stonehenge on the day! Therefore, if you want to book a place, you need to pre-book tickets the day before.

Very few tickets are made available on the day at the destination, so you wouldn’t want to travel all the way to Stonehenge and find that all the tickets have gone – which they often do.

Tickets booked in advance mean a discount price often, especially if booked as part of a larger group.

All tickets give you an allotted time to go in and see the Stones; therefore, if you do turn up on the day, you could get a ticket for Stonehenge – but it could be for a much later time slot.

Finally, all our  tours are fully refundable,  so as long as you cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice before your tour starts! So you can book your tour with peace of mind if your plans change and with no charges.

Marvel at the splendour of the State Apartments, the grandest apartments in England, where paintings by Van Dyck and Rubens hang from the walls and the ceilings are painted with elaborate, magnificent murals. Set within the grounds of Windsor Castle, St George's Chapel is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England. Construction of the present Chapel began in 1475 under the reign of Edward IV. When visiting, make sure you look up and admire the stone ceiling, which was added by Henry VII. The Chapel has been the location of many royal weddings, including TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and HRH Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank. Within the Chapel are the tombs of 11 monarchs, including Queen Elizabeth II, George VI, Henry VIII and Charles I. Don’t miss a colourful display of typical British pageantry that takes place on select mornings at the Changing the Guard ceremony, where the handover of duties between guards to The King takes place. If His Majesty is in Windsor during your visit, you may be lucky enough to see the Royal Standard flying on the flagpole of the Round Tower.

Step back 5,000 years in time to prehistoric Britain as our guide helps bring the history of this fascinating monument to life.

Who built Stonehenge? Why was it built?

Discover the answer to these questions and the monument’s fascinating link to the Summer and Winter solstice. Come face-to-face with a 5,500-year-old man and visit the world-class exhibition centre, with 250 ancient objects on display.

Home to Britain’s only natural thermal hot springs, Bath is a delightful city where the ancient meets the contemporary world. Travel through thousands of years of history in one city and marvel at its unique honey-coloured Georgian architecture.

At the end of your Experience, you will be driven back to your selected drop-off point.

Windsor Castle, Stonehenge & Bath Tour

windsor castle stonehenge bath tour

Itinerary so far...

Our experienced tour guides will help you tailor your day to get the most from your Windsor Castle, Stonehenge & Bath Tour, find you a great place for afternoon tea or the best shop for souvenirs. Travel in air-conditioned, chauffeur-driven comfort through the beautiful English countryside. We can pick you up from your hotel, the airport or port.

You start your tour with a stop off at Eton—home town of the renowned school with the same name. Famous Etonians include Prince William, Boris Johnson, George Orwell and Hugh Laurie.

Exterior stone walls and round tower.

Your next stop will be Windsor Castle, a royal residence that embodies almost a thousand years of historical architecture. The original castle was built after the Norman invasion in the tenth century as a strategic part of the River Thames. The castle has been modified over the years and in recent history has been used for state vists. The Castle was the main residence of Queen Elizabeth II in the closing decade of her reign. So it's cucumber sandwiches in the vehicle and off to the main attraction—the megalithic circle at Stonehenge.

Before the main event we'll take you to see Woodhenge where you'll see pillars marking the positions of Neolithic wooden posts which have long since rotted away. It's an important World Heritage Site and consists of six concentric ovals of standing posts, surrounded by a bank and ditch.

Tour guide Dave Stubbs between two giant sarsen stones.

Stonehenge began as a burial area over 4500 years ago and has changed many times during this period, with stones being added and the site being reformed several times. Part of the changes made to the site were the addition of the bluestones. These stones which were mined in Wales and were dragged to Stonehenge using the limited technologies of the era. This would have taken a large number of people and tremendous organisation.

On site is the fabulous Stonehenge Visitor Centre where you can further explore the mysteries of the ancient stones. Here you'll enjoy world-class exhibitions and multi-media displays. Outside there are reconstructed Neolithic houses—where if you're lucky—you might see ancient crafting demonstrations and bread-making using prehistoric techniques.

Curved Georgian facade from the ground beneath a blue sky.

Then we take you through the beautiful English countryside to the Roman city of Bath. Here you can wonder at the splendor of the Georgian Royal Crescent consisting of 30 pristine town houses built between 1767 and 1775. Then step back in time a further 1,700 years or so with a visit to the Roman Baths—a well preserved thermae built around the site of a temple when the town was known as Aquae Sulis. Find out more about the baths in the on-site museum. Then after a fun and fact-filled day, it's back to base.

†Please note that Windsor Castle is not open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Due to time constraints we suggest eating lunch in the vehicle whilst on the move. If you would rather have a pub or restaurant lunch we would need to extend the tour by 2 hours at an extra cost of £100.

  • Pick-up at 8.30am
  • Windsor Castle
  • Sandwich lunch on the go*

Please will you clarify this “I cannot need to see more estate or Manson. “

Where are you staying? Is this just a day trip?

This post was determined to be inappropriate by the Tripadvisor community and has been removed.

I don't think you should combine this with a trip to Stonehenge as it is at least an hour away from what you want to see within Castle Combe, but I know that people more knowledgeable than I will jump in to advise.

You would be spending 6 hours of your day, perhaps a bit more in transit...

Still not sure I fully understand what you want.

If you must see Stonehenge and Castle Combe and maybe some other villages in that area then yes, you would have to be prepared to pay $$$.

I am open to the suggestion of other picturesque towns. Thank you!

Just do Stonehenge & Salisbury. Although it is a city the city centre is small & old. It’s built on a grid system & easy to navigate. The Cathedral is magnificent as are all the buildings around the Close. Walk around the back streets away from the shops, pop into the tourist office & get local information. I live near for years & always find something new I had previously never know.

Many from UK hate the use of ‘cute’. What defines ‘cute’. Salisbury may not what you define ‘cute’ but it has a wealth of interesting architecture.

Stonehenge is easy to do from Salisbury station, just catch the Stonehenge tour bus which will then drop you off in the city centre on your was back.

CC has become over ridden by tourists.

The shuttle bus from Salisbury to Stonehenge stops at Old Sarum for the ruins of the original cathedral and Bishop’s Palace.

Honestly, don’t choose Castle Combe just because Instagram or TikTok have for some bizarre reason latched onto it as the perfect Quaint English Village tm. (Unless you like fighting for space with every other American tourist in the country.)

It’s a nice enough town, but there are hundreds of equally nice, historic, “quaint” towns which are easier to get to and don’t have 50 coaches disgorging American tourists every day.

St Albans is a good choice and is a short distance on the train and will probably cost you both 30 pounds return.

The adjoining village of St Michael's is accessible through the historic Verulanium park where remains of a roman wall are.

St Michaels is very pretty and walkable in 10 minutes from the centre of St Albans.

Alternatively, we love Arundel, about an hour(ish) on the train.

Castle combe in my opinion is a long and possibly expensive trip from the capital should you opt for a tour.

If you were 100% about visiting the Cotswolds and pretty villages, perhaps taking the train to Moreton in Marsh, taking the bus 801 to Bourton and then walking to The Slaughters?
