How to See the Bhasm Aarti at Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar Temple
The only ash ritual of its kind in the world
Mahakaleshwar temple at Ujjain , in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh , is an important pilgrimage place for Hindus as it's said to be one of the 12 Jyotirlingas (most sacred abodes of Shiva). It's also regarded as one of the top 10 Tantra temples of India , and has the only bhasm aarti (ash ritual) of its kind in the world.
What Is the Ash Ritual?
The first thing you hear when you tell locals that you’re planning to visit the Mahakaleshwar temple is that you must attend the bhasm aarti. The bhasm aarti is the first ritual conducted everyday at the temple. It's performed to wake the god (Lord Shiva) up, do shringar (anoint and dress him for the day), and carry out the first offering of fire to him (by circulating lamps, incense, and other items).
The unique thing about this aarti is the inclusion of bhasm, which is ash from funeral pyres, as one of the offerings. Mahakaleshwar is a name for Lord Shiva and means the god of Time or Death. This may be one of the reasons for the inclusion of the funeral ash. You will be assured that this aarti is something that you shouldn’t miss, and that until fresh ash is not brought in the aarti cannot start.
Things to Know Before You Go
The bhasm aarti begins at 4 a.m. and if you want to offer your own puja (prayer) separately, you'll have to do it after the aarti and you might spend a couple of hours waiting. The aarti is extremely popular and bookings need to be made to see it. This can be done online a month in advance and is recommended. There's no cost. Bookings can also be made at the dedicated counter at the temple entrance the day prior. However, places fill up fast.
Do note that there's a dress code when attending the bhasm aarti if you wish to go inside the inner sanctum and participate in the jal abhishek ritual (offering water to the god) before the aarti starts. Men have to wear a traditional dhoti and women must wear a sari . People start lining up at the temple from around 1 a.m. to gain entry, so you'll need to arrive early and wait.
Cell phones and cameras are not permitted to be taken inside the temple premises, and security checks are conducted. There's a storage counter where you can leave your belongings.
Where to View the Bhasm Aarti
The bhasm aarti commences shortly after the jal abhishek ritual. There are four halls outside the temple's inner sanctum from where the aarti can be observed, some of which have been newly constructed to accommodate more devotees. The differences are in their size and location. Allocation is based on availability when booking. Nandi Mandapam is the preferred hall to be in, as it's smaller (fits only 100 people) and closest to the temple's inner sanctum. The larger Ganpati Mandapam is situated beside Nandi Mandapam and is the next best option, with stairs to sit on for an uninterrupted view. It can fit 400 people. Kartikey Mandapam is a new hall above Ganpati Mandapam. Bhasmarti Mandapam is another new hall located the furthest away. The aarti is telecast onto giant screens while it's being performed.
During the Ritual
The entire aarti lasts for about 45 minutes to an hour. The first part of the aarti, while the shringar is done, is sublime and well worth the scramble. However, the actual bhasm part — which is often hyped to no end — lasts only about a minute and a half.
During this crucial minute and a half that you wait to watch from 2 a.m., women are asked to cover their eyes. It's important to note that the bhasm being used is no longer from funeral pyres but actually just vibhuti – the sacred ash used in most temples, sometimes made from powdered cow dung.
After the Lord is adorned in the bhasm, the actual aarti begins, with the offering of the lamps. The aarti is usually accompanied by chants of praises to the Lord.
Paid Darshan Tickets
After the bhasm aarti is over, devotees may go inside the inner sanctum and offer their personal prayers to the Lord. Paid Darshan tickets are available for those who don't want to stand for a long time in line. These tickets can be booked online or purchased at the temple.

According to Hindu beliefs, Mahakal refers to lord Shiva as he is considered to be the destroyer of all elements, which is where the temple derives its name from. India has twelve sacred Mahakal shrines known as 'Jyotirlingas' and Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain is an abode for one of them, which places it amongst the most popular pilgrimage destinations in the country. Jyotirlingas are naturally emerging linga believed to acquire currents of shakti (creative energies) from within themselves rather than being ritually infused with mantra-shakti by priests. Ujjain temple plays host to a large number of devotees who visit it throughout the year to offer their prayers and witness the seraphic Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, and is undoubtedly of the utmost momentousness to them.
Ujjain temple has been rebuilt a number of times over thousands of years. It was destroyed by Altamish in the 13th century during his raid of Ujjain but was later restored by the Marathas some time around the 19th century. Now, it is noted to be a saintly place where one can attain absolute peace of mind and indulge in meditation. The various Aartis (Hindu religious rituals of worship) performed every day in Ujjain temple , especially the "Bhasm Aarti", are the famed and prominent rituals that one must attend while visiting. Mahakaleshwar temple with its 'Shikhar' (summit) soaring high into the sky, evokes undeniable awe and reverence with its magnificence. With its aesthetically pleasing structure and varied kinds of decorations that embellish the sancitified Jyotirlinga each day, Mahakaleshwar temple possesses the power to leave every visitor awestruck.

The grandeur of Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is indescribable. The Mahakal dominates the life of Ujjain and its residents, despite the immersing routine of modern preoccupations, and furnishes a sturdy link with ancient Hindu traditions and culture. A massive fair is held near the temple on the day of Mahashivratri (which is the most significant festival for the millions of devotees of Lord Shiva) and the devoted pilgrims continue their worship throughout the night. The immense belief in Mahakal to bless every soul that visits its abode remains unquestionable. Naturally, Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga attains the status of being the epitome of sacredness.

UJJAIN MAHAKALESHWAR TEMPLE GUIDE
Madhya Pradesh has two out of twelve jyotirlingas. One is Omkareshwar, and the other is Mahakaleshwar. I’ve already posted the Omkareshwar temple guide . Refer to it for darshan-related info, travel tips and more. And this article pertains to the Mahakal temple. The Ujjain Mahakaleshwar travel guide provides information about the temple, darshan-related details, how to get there, where to stay, places to see nearby and travel tips.
Every jyotirlinga has a history or legend. The Mahakaleshwar temple has it too. Let’s begin the Ujjain Mahakaleshwar travel guide by knowing about the temple.
LEGEND OF UJJAIN MAHAKALESHWAR TEMPLE
The Mahakal temple has numerous legends and tales revolving around it. Which one is the apt one, I don’t know. But the following story is well-known and is mentioned in the Puranas.
Ujjain is the historical city of Avantika. It was a beautiful and picturesque city and was a religious centre. In the past, devotees came here and learned scriptures.
According to the legend, the ruler of Avantika, King Chandrasena, was a devotee of Lord Shiva. One day while praying, a farmer’s boy, Shrikhar, ran over to join him. But he was removed from the temple and sent to the city’s outskirts.
The king’s enemies were planning to attack Avantika (modern-day Ujjain). The young boy overhead them. He wanted to protect the city. So, he began praying to Lord Shiva. Soon the news reached Vridhi, a priest. He started praying to Lord Shiva on the banks of the Shipra River. King Ripudamana, King Singhaditya and Dushan, a demon, attacked Ujjain and were almost successful.
Upon hearing the prayers of his devotees, Shiva appeared. He was in his Mahakal avatar, the deity of time and death. Lord Shiva then defeated the enemies and saved Ujjain.
Shrikhar and Vridhi pleaded with Lord Shiva to stay and protect Ujjain. Since then, Lord Shiva settled in Ujjain as linga formed with the powers of Shiva and Parvati.
DARSHAN-RELATED INFO
There are two types of darshan- free and VIP darshan.
The temple complex has two entrances. One is for free darshan, and the other gateway is for the VIPs. The free darshan line is long and takes 2-3 hours. But, the VIP queue is shorter and takes 20-30 minutes.
A single VIP darshan ticket costs Rs. 350 . The price doesn’t include abhishek. If you add an abhishek or puja, a VIP ticket costs Rs. 750 .
The Mahakaleshwar temple is renowned for the Bhasma aarti and the Sandhya aarti. Bhasma aarti takes place at 4 am. It is God’s awakening ceremony. And the Shayan aarti takes place at 10:30 pm.
There are two queues for Bhasma aarti, free and VIP lines. Devotees start lining up at 1 am for Bhasma Aarti. So if you don’t want to queue up so early, purchase the VIP ticket. A single Bhasma Aarti VIP ticket costs Rs. 1500.
You can book your tickets online or offline at the ticket counter near the front gate.
If you miss out on the Bhasma and Shayan aartis, don’t worry. Four more different aartis take place during the day. There are aartis at 7 am, 10 am, 5 pm and 7 pm.
TIP:- Pre-book tickets for Bhasma Aarti. The hall can contain up to 500 people, so tickets get sold out within minutes.
BHASMA AARTI
The Bhasma aarti takes place at 4 am daily. However, devotees start lining up hours before. So, what exactly is the Bhasma aarti?
Bhasma aarti is the first aarti of the day. It is Lord Shiva’s awakening ceremony.
According to legend, Dushan, a demon, terrorised Ujjain. The people prayed to Lord Shiva to destroy the monster. Lord Shiva defeated Dushan and turned him into ash. After the battle, the devotees covered Lord Shiva’s body with human ash. From that day, the Bhasma Aarti used human ash.
One day there was no funeral. As a result, there was no ash for the Bhasma aarti. So, a pandit sacrificed his son and used his ashes to perform the ceremony. Lord Shiva was pleased by his devotion and proposed using cow dung or wood ash instead of human ash.
MAHAKAL CORRIDOR
The Mahakal corridor is a recent addition bordering Rudrasagar Lake. It is a 900 m road with sandstone statues, pillars and murals. The structures depict scenes of Shiva from the scriptures.
Mahakal Corridor is a beautiful place and I recommend visiting it.

Mahakal Corridor Ujjain : Full Travel Guide
The city of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh is popular for the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple. Now there is good news for all Shiva devotees. The devotees who earlier had to pass through a congested area can now enter the temple through the newly inaugurated Mahakal Lok Corridor.
Recently, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Rs 856-crore Mahakaleshwar Temple corridor in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The event was accompanied by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Madhya Pradesh chief minister, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union minister. The newly constructed corridor at the temple has been named ‘Mahakal Lok’. The length of the corridor is almost 900 meters and it has a colonnade of 108 ornate pillars made with carved sandstones and gushing fountains. The running panel of more than 50 murals depicts the stories from the ‘Shiv Puran’.
Before inaugurating the grand project, the honorable Narendra Modi performed ‘Puja’ at the Mahakaleshwar Temple. After that, he moved towards the main gateway of the corridor, known as ‘Nandi Dwar’ to inaugurate the corridor. The corridor is being constructed around the centuries-old Mahakaleshwar Temple, which is known to be one of the 12 existing ‘jyotirlingas’ in India.
On this grand occasion, Kailash Kher sang a special anthem honoring Lord Shiva, who is worshiped in Ujjain as Mahakal. The new anthem, known as ‘Jai Shri Mahakal’, marks the creation of the new corridor, ‘Mahakal Lok’.
Ujjain Mahakal Corridor Attractions:
- Mahakal Plaza
- Mahakal Corridor
- Mahakal Theme Park
- 200-meter-long walkway
- Grand statue of Nandi
- Night Garden
- 108 Shiva pillars depicting Shiva in different poses, etc.
Significance of the Mahakal temple in Ujjain in Hinduism
As per the Puranas, Lord Shiva pierced the world as an endless pillar of light, known as jyotirlinga. In India, there are a total of 12 jyotirlinga sites, considered a manifestation of Shiva. Besides Mahakal, the other jyotirlingas include Somnath and Nageshwar in Gujarat; Mallikarjuna in Andhra Pradesh; Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh; Kedarnath in Uttarakhand; Bhimashankar, Triyambakeshwar, and Grishneshwar in Maharashtra; Viswanath at Varanasi, Baidyanath in Jharkhand, and Rameshwar in Tamil Nadu.
Mahakal is the only jyotirlinga facing the south, while the rest of the jyotirlingas face east. This is mainly due to the direction of death, which is believed to be the south. Many people worship Mahakaleshwar to avoid untimely death.
As per the local legends, once there was a king named Chandrasena who ruled Ujjain and was a Shiva devotee. The Lord appeared in his Mahakal form and destroyed all of the enemies. Upon the request of his devotees, Lord Shiva decided to reside in the city and become its chief deity.
One can see the narration of the Mahakal temple in various ancient Indian poetic texts as well.
900 M Long Corridor Spreads Around Rudrasagar Lake
The ‘Mahakal Lok corridor which is more than 900 meters in length is one of the largest such corridors in the country. The corridor is spread around the old Rudrasagar Lake, which has also been revived as part of the redevelopment project around the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple.
As per the development phase, two majestic gateways including Nandi Dwar and Pinaki Dwar, which are close to each other, have been erected near the starting point of the corridor, which winds its way to the temple’s entrance. The corridor provides an aesthetic view of the nearby surroundings.
Majestic’ Mahakal Lok
A majestic colonnade of 108 ornate pillars showcases amazing craftsmanship, the corridor is made of intricately carved sandstones, gushing fountains, and numerous murals depicting ‘Shiv Puran’ stories.
All the 108 murals and 93 statues at the pedestrian corridor present stories related to Lord Shiva, such as Shiv Vivah, Tripurasur Vadh, Shiv Puran, and Shiv Tandav Swaroop. Also, the people visiting the temple get access to 128 convenience points, eateries and shopping joints, florists, handicraft stores, etc. all constructed on this pedestrian corridor.
Increase Annual Footfall
As per this development plan, the Mahakaleshwar temple premises of almost 2.82 hectares are being increased to 47 hectares, which will be developed in two phases by the Ujjain district administration. The plan also includes 17 hectares of Rudrasagar lake. The project is anticipated to increase annual footfall in the city of Ujjain from the present 1.50 crore to almost three crores.
Key highlights of ‘Mahakal Lok’:
- The inauguration of the first phase of the ‘Mahakal Lok’ – an over 900-meter-long corridor, is a part of the ₹856 crore Mahakaleshwar Temple corridor development project. The total cost of the first phase of the corridor is ₹316 crore.
- The Mahakal Lok will be near the old Rudrasagar Lake, which has also been revived as part of the redevelopment project around the ancient Mahakaleshwar Temple.
- Two majestic gateways – Nandi Dwar and Pinaki Dwar are separated by a short distance and are located near the starting point of the corridor, which is the temple’s entrance and presents a mesmerizing view along the way.
- Many religious sculptures are crafted in the corridor which depict the life of Lord Shiva.
- The redevelopment plan lays emphasis on the beautification, expansion, and decongestion of Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar temple and nearby areas.
- As per the media reports, the Mahakaleshar corridor redevelopment is 3X larger than the redevelopments in the Kashi Vishwanath temple premises.
- Mahakal police station will be shifted to a different location. A parking area with the capacity to park 180 cars will also be constructed along with a tourist information center, e-vehicle docking station, and hawkers’ zone
- The old pedestrian walkway between the Mahakal temple and Ramghat will remain as it is. Also, a garden will be constructed between the two points
- To ensure cleanliness inside the temple, separate sewer and stormwater pipes will be laid.

India is famous for its old cities and unchanged culture which continues back centuries. One such city which we will talk about in the blog is Ujjain. Ujjain is another old city in India like Varanasi which is famous as a religious place for Hindus. Situated on the banks of river Shipra, this city was once ruled by the great king known for his judgmental decisions Samrat Vikram Aditya. Though, there is another thing for which this city is famous. This is the great and ancient Mahakaleshwar Temple situated near the river Shipra. The Mahakaleshwar temple is the temple of Lord Shiva and is part of the famous 12 Jyotirlingas in India.
People mainly visit Ujjain to worship their Lord in this ancient temple. In this guide, we will talk about every minute detail you need to know before planning your trip to Ujjain. This blog includes everything from budget, places, lodging, food, temples, and much more. So if you are planning a trip to Ujjain, this is your one-stop destination to get the best knowledge of the city.
How to reach Ujjain?
Situated at the center of India, Ujjain is a part of the state of Madhya Pradesh. The city is well known throughout India and thus has availability of trains from almost every part of India. The nearest city from Ujjain is Indore, so you can also reach Indore by train or flight and then take a bus from Indore to Ujjain which is just 50 km away.
The cost of an AC bus from Indore to Ujjain is Rs 100.
Itinerary
Ujjain is famous for religious places only which can be covered in a single day. So the basic itinerary which you can follow when coming to Ujjain can be as below.
Mahakaleshwar Temple
Kaal Bhairav Temple
Mangalnath Temple
Siddhwat Ghat
Bhrithari Gufa
Isckon Temple
Dwarkadheesh Temple
GadhKalika Temple
Har Siddhi Mata Temple
Hotels, Lodging, and Food
The most famous spot of the city is the Mahakaleshwar temple which is just a distance of 2 km from the railway station. If you are coming to Ujjain, this will be the prime spot you will be visiting in this city. Also, all the other famous spots are near the temple only.
If you are coming to Ujjain by train then you can reach the Mahakaleshwar temple by auto which will only cost Rs 30.
Thus, it is best to take a hotel near the Mahakaleshwar temple.
The cost of hotel rooms near the Mahakaleshwar temple can range from Rs 700/night to Rs 1500/night for 2-3 adults.
Talking about the food in Ujjain. For breakfast, Poha is a pretty famous meal that is easily available anywhere in Ujjain. The cost of the post is just Rs 15 and you can have it along with a cup of tea. Talking about the main course for lunch or dinner, there are many restaurants available near the Mahakaleshwar temple from where you can enjoy a meal for Rs 200 to Rs 250 per person. There are also much cheaper Dhabas available where you can get a Thali for just Rs 60 but the food might not be of good quality.
Timings of Mahakaleshwar Temple
The Mahakaleshwar temple is generally less crowded as compared to temples like Shri Mata Vaishno Devi or Tirumala Tirupati. Thus, the temple opens and closes at fixed times.
The timings for darshan at the temple are from 4:00 am to 11:00 pm.
In addition to this there is aarti which happens four times a day at the times mentioned below:
Bhasma Aarti -> 4:00 am to 6:00 am
Naivedya Aarti -> 7:30 am to 8:15 am (In summer -> 7:00 am to 7:45 am)
Sandhya Aarti -> 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm (In summer -> 7::00 pm to 7:30 pm)
Shayan Aarti -> 10:30 pm
So, if you want to witness the aarti at the temple make sure to reach at these times to be a part of it.
How to visit Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ujjain
One of the first places to visit in Ujjain is the Mahakaleshwar Shiv Temple. A famous spot for Hindu devotees, this temple is often crowded. You can reach the temple in the morning as soon as possible.
There are three categories of darshan at the Mahakaleshwar temple. One is the free darshan and the rest two are paid.
The cost of these paid darshans is Rs 250 and Rs 750.
If you are going via free darshan then you need to stand in queue for 10 to 15 minutes before you can get the darshan of Lord Mahakaleshwar. Also, there are fixed timings for free darshan. The timings are from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The free darshan queue is generally crowded a lot and it can be even more crowded at the time of Shravan. In the free darshan category, you can get the darshan of Lord Mahakal from a distance whereas the paid category is a bit different.
The next category to get the darshan of Lord Mahakaleshwar is the Rs 250 paid category. Although this is a paid category, it is not much different from the free one. The reason is that in this category as well, you will not get to go near the Shivling of Lord Mahakaleshwar. Thus, it is not recommended to pay for Rs 250 category, you can get the free darshan instead in the same manner.
The last one is the Rs 750/person category. This is the category in which you can do the darshan of Lord Mahakaleshwar by going near the Shivling inside the “Garbh Grah”. If you are going through this category then you need to wear a pair of Dhoti for men and Saree for women, after which you can go near the Jyotirling.
The Dhoti for men is available at the temple itself completely free of cost. So you will have to change your clothes and then do the darshan.
Cameras and other electronic items are not allowed inside the Garbh Grah. Although you can take your mobile phone with you. When going through the paid category of Rs 750, you can get access to a particular section of the temple which is unreachable if you are doing free darshan. In this section of the temple, there is also a pond or Talab which is a sight to watch.
After you have the paid darshan you can also do the free darshan if the temple is not crowded which could take another 10 to 15 minutes.
Bada Ganesh Temple
Just after you have visited the Mahakaleshwar temple you can now visit the Bada Ganesh Temple. Since Lord Ganesh is the son of Lord Shiv, a temple is built for him just outside the Mahakaleshwar temple.
Just near the temple where the river Shipra flows is a famous ghat called Ram Ghat. Many of you might not know but Ujjain is also among the cities which host Kumbh Mela like Haridwar and Prayagraj. Ram Ghat is the place where the great Kumbh Mela also known as the “Singastha” Kumbh in Ujjain takes place. Thus, this place is another great place to visit where you can also take a bath at the Shipra river if the water level is low and suitable for it.
How to visit the Kaal Bhairav Temple?
After visiting the nearby place from the Mahakaleshwar temple, you can next visit the famous Kaal Bhairav Temple which is at a distance of about 5.5 km from the Mahakaleshwar temple. You can take an auto-rickshaw to reach the Kaal Bhairav temple.
The cost of the auto-rickshaw will be between Rs 200 to Rs 250 to reach the Kaal Bhairav Temple.
The Kaal Bhairav Temple is another famous temple where you can easily do the darshan of Lord Kaal Bhairav. The temple is not much crowded and you can easily get darshan in a few minutes only.
The Managalnath Temple
While going to the Kaal Bhairav Temple from the Mahakaleshwar temple, on the way falls the mangalnath temple. This is one the most ancient temple where people come to do pooja for the welfare of themselves or their loved ones. You can also arrange for a Pooja immediately by coming here.
Vikramaditya Singhasan
Ujjain was once ruled by a great king named Raja Vikramaditya. He was known as a king who would never give a wrong judgment ever. There are many other stories related to his life for which Ujjain is famous. There is also a temple built in his name in Ujjain which is another great sight to visit. Along with this, there is also the place where Vikramaditya sat and gave the correct decisions for every case in his court. This place is called the Vikramaditya Singhasan Battisi and can be visited in Ujjain.
Other Famous Places to Visit
All the main places of Ujjain have been mentioned above which are a must-visit when coming to this city. Although there are still many other places which you can visit if you have got some extra time. These places are also a famous part of Ujjain’s heritage but are not so famous. So, you can keep them as an option to visit if you are staying in Ujjain for more than two days. The list of these places is given below:
Har Siddhi Mata Mandir
Chinta Madi Ganesh Mandir
Gad Kalika Temple
Siddhiwat Ghat
Shani Mandir
Jantar Mantar
Although you can visit Ujjain via auto or other public transport still if you there is another way to save a lot of your money on transport. This could be done if you choose to travel by bus which costs just Rs 100 to take through all the famous places of Ujjain. This bus service is provided by Ujjain Darshan Samiti and can be booked at the Mahakaleshwar Ujjain Dharamshala.
Total Cost/Budget
Ujjain is a cheap city and there are only religious spots to visit which wouldn’t cost much. If you are planning to save a lot of money on this trip, it is recommended to take the Bus Service available at the Mahakaleshwar Ujjain Dharamshala which is the cheapest way to explore Ujjain. Although, even if you don’t take the bus service, Ujjain can still fit into your budget quite easily.
The total expenses calculated per person can be as mentioned below:
Hotel: Rs 750 (per Day) Meals: Rs 1500 ( per Person) Transport: Rs 500 (Sleeper Class) Total: 2750
Although the prices considered above are the maximum that can be spent on anything. Thus, you can easily visit Ujjain for Rs 1800 per person excluding the cost of a train or flight.
Ending this guide with the hope to have helped you in planning your trip to Ujjain, this guide is a free source of information. At last, Ujjain is not a big city with many famous tourist attractions and thus just one day is enough to visit all the major places in this city if you start your day a bit earlier. Although if by any chance you are planning to stay in Ujjain for more than two days then you can try visiting other places mentioned in the list above.
Though the Mahakaleshwar Temple is open to darshan 12 months a year still monsoon can be the best time to visit Ujjain since the days here are very warm in April to July. Also, try visiting the Mahakaleshwar temple during weekdays to avoid the crowd. If you are coming in the month of Shravan, then you might have to spend quite a long time before getting the darshan of Lord Mahakaleshwar.
We wish you a safe and exciting journey to Ujjain and hope to have helped you in planning this trip to a major extent.

- jr4seasons 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Holidays At aka Yatra Exotic is a fantastic tour company ! I recommend booking a tour to do the Golden Triangle sights in India. The company I chose was perfect in every way. You are assigned a Tour Manager (ours was Amit Tomar who has 15 years experience in coordinating all the people and drivers and details so much so that you don't have to do anything except show up in the hotel lobby at the time they say) who customizes your choices for either 3,4,or 5 star hotels. You have one driver for your group (2-10 people) and a very comfortable car. You are basically chauffered around to the various cities to which you meet your guide (different in each city as they are locals that have been trained for a minimum of 1 month ea year to get their liscense to be a professional tour guide representing the country. The driver and tour guide was always on time and their one goal was to answer a zillion questions from us about Indian customs and culture, history, and today while presenting the current site/city in great depth and with enthusiasm. No worries throughout and tour was actually better than we anticipated. How often does that happen! The company (Holidays At aka Yatra Exotic) is experienced (in biz since 2009), has a great website with every kind of tour in India you can imagine for almost any number of days and combinations. The price was reasonable and worth 10x more. They are very interested in detailed feedback about each guide and hotel in each city and the driver, vehicle, services to make sure their folks are performing as requested. I would take another tour with this company in a second. They seem to do India only-but I wish they did tours in other places. Read more Written November 25, 2022

- Laura043 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Absolutely amazing An absolutely fantastic experience Amit and his team were professional and friendly the whole time. We are from the UK - mother & daughter and travelling through India after for 3 weeks. We had some particular requirements and alterations such as hotels we wished to stay in etc and they could not be more accommodating with our requirements. So much so I was a little worried at something going wrong. But I need not have worried at all as from beginning to end the whole tour was fantastic without a single glitch. Our main organiser Amit rang us at each new stop to check that we were ok - with our driver and where we were meant to be. We always felt comfortable that the eating / shopping establishments we went to were clean a perfectly safe. My main tips would be don’t be afraid to ask for a nicer hotel or room prices are so competitive it really makes the trip special to have a better room/hotel to stay in. Also, do a bit of research around seeing the Tigers, you need to be in the right zones to see the tigers. But as far as the Tour Operator is concerned a fantastic trip and won’t be using anyone else when we go back to India. Finally our driver Rakesh was absolutely lovely and so helpful.
