Cruise ships are back in the water, and travelers couldn’t be more delighted. Travel advisors also have unprecedented opportunity to sell cruises, but there is a lot of noise in the marketplace. Distinctive Voyages gives them a can’t-get-it-anywhere-else opportunity to sell to their clients. It turns a cruise into an elevated river or ocean vacation. Roger Block, President of Travel Leaders Network

Unique hosted sailings offer exceptional shipboard and shoreside experiences

ALEXANDRIA, VA (October 19, 2021)  – Travel Leaders Network’s popular Distinctive Voyages Hosted cruise program is returning to the seas, with some new additions. Distinctive Voyages is a Travel Leaders Network exclusive hosted cruise collection of sailings that features complimentary added amenities, including the expertise of a Distinctive Voyage Host on board each sailing.

Bringing an intimate feeling to even the largest of ships, Distinctive Voyages cruisers will also be offered a private welcome reception (based on social distancing measures) and an amenity only for Distinctive Voyages passengers.

“Cruise ships are back in the water, and travelers couldn’t be more delighted,” said Roger Block, President of Travel Leaders Network. “Travel advisors also have unprecedented opportunity to sell cruises, but there is a lot of noise in the marketplace. Distinctive Voyages gives them a can’t-get-it-anywhere-else opportunity to sell to their clients. It turns a cruise into an elevated river or ocean vacation.”

Distinctive Voyages’ first sailing since the pandemic left on September 26, 2021, and 19 Distinctive Voyages sailings are scheduled before the end of the year. Passengers on these cruises will have a host, receive a shipboard credit and be given a bon voyage bottle of wine in lieu of a welcome reception due to social distancing regulations.

In 2022 and 2023, there will be 578 Distinctive Voyages going to 30 countries and 47 ports of call. Distinctive Voyages’ cruise partners are:

  • AmaWaterways
  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Crystal Cruises
  • Cunard Line
  • Holland America Line
  • Oceania Cruises
  • Princess Cruises
  • Regent Seven Seas Cruises
  • Silversea Cruises
  • Windstar Cruises

Additionally, passengers on these cruises will be able to take part in curated shore events on 10 of the cruise partners and receive shipboard credit on select lines.

“Because of Travel Leaders Network’s deep relationships with our cruise partners in Distinctive Voyages, passengers on these sailings get to experience some very special things,” said Block. “For instance, in 2022, we are offering a ‘Husky Homestead’ excursion as part of the land portion of a Princess Alaska cruise. Distinctive Voyages passengers can get up and close with sled dogs and really get to know the culture of Alaska on a deeper level. And of course, excursions like this are a very attractive selling proposition for our travel advisors.”

In 2022, Distinctive Voyages’ popular Private Car and Driver option will be offered on 16 Distinctive Voyages sailings. This exclusive amenity puts the services of a driver at the disposal of a traveler for one day. The passenger can use the driver for a guided tour, or simply be driven around as they wish.

Travelers interested in booking a Distinctive Voyages sailing should visit  www.travelleaders.com  to find a Travel Leaders Network advisor.

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS

CUSTOMIZED JUST FOR US We knew a Caribbean cruise would be an amazing vacation, but this truly exceeded our expectations. Traveling with a son with special needs, we were really concerned about accessibility, but we were taken care of from the moment we landed in Miami throughout our entire cruise. The attention to detail was incredible, our agent really thought of absolutely everything so we never had to worry about a thing. Being able to relax and seeing our son smile was worth every penny.

A BANG FOR OUR BUCK If you’ve never used an agent before, I HIGHLY recommend starting now. We actually SAVED money and because our agent has VIP status with the cruise line, we ended up being upgraded to a suite on the opposite side of the ship so we had amazing views of the coast every single time we pulled into port. We should have been using an agent long ago. After sipping our coffee in our pajamas watching the sun rise over the Mediterranean from our veranda, we will never go back to booking on our own ever again.

CRUISING SPAIN, FRANCE, ITALY & GREECE My husband and I really wanted to do a Mediterranean cruise for our honeymoon, but we really had no idea where to start and researching options was so overwhelming. We had never used an agent before, but we will never go back to trying to plan our own vacations after this. Our agent knew the perfect cruise right away. She arranged a three-day tour in Barcelona before we departed on our cruise and it couldn’t have been more perfect. From sending us all our documents in advance to staff knowing our names as soon as we showed up, our agent made it all so easy.

—Christine B.

BUCKET LIST AFRICAN SAFARI I can’t recommend our agent enough!! We just returned from a two-week safari in Africa. We visited three countries with ten different stops like Masai Mara National Reserve, Serengeti National Park and more. Considering all the planning that went into this trip for transfers and accommodations in each stop, our agent didn’t just pull it off, she made it a bucket list trip we will never forget. We couldn’t have done this without her and will definitely be using her again. We can’t wait to start planning our next trip!

DREAM WEDDING IN MEXICO I’ve always wanted to have a destination wedding, but I never thought it would be possible. Our agent made that dream a reality and we got married on a picturesque secluded beach in Riviera Maya with enough of our budget left over to plan a separate honeymoon. I was SO impressed with everything she did. Not only did our agent get a special rate for our family members to stay at the same resort, she also surprised us with a special sunset catamaran cruise as a wedding gift and even sent little gifts for the bridal party! All the personal touches made it really special.

Worried the cruise ship will leave without you? Keep these things in mind

Determining how and where to get back onto the ship is important.

Tens of millions of people take cruises each year, and they often go without a hitch and create great memories.

Some cruisegoers may, however, be familiar with the worry in the back of their mind that the cruise line might leave without them if they don’t return to the ship on time if something goes awry. That fear often doesn’t become a reality, but it can when, for instance, a private tour or excursion goes late.

"It’s always an unfortunate circumstance when this happens, but it actually happens a little bit more than you would think," Travelmation President and founder Adam Duckworth told FOX Business.

Eight passengers taking a Norwegian Cruise Line trip recently found themselves facing such a situation while stopped in Sao Tome off the coast of Africa.

AMERICANS STRANDED BY NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE AFTER ISLAND EXCURSION, LEFT WITHOUT MONEY, VITAL MEDS: REPORT

Jill and Jay Campell of South Carolina told ABC 15 News and other outlets they became stranded after a delay with their private tour resulted in them not returning to the ship by the designated time and not being able to get onboard.

The situation became more complicated after the tides at the next port in Gambia prevented the ship from docking, according to reports. They then had to deal with logistics and head to a port in Senegal, where the cruise was scheduled to dock on Tuesday, ABC 15 reported.

The eight guests have since gotten back on the ship, a spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Line told FOX Business.

Norwegian "provided them with authorization to rejoin the ship at Dakar, Senegal, on April 2, 2024," the spokesperson also said. "Despite the series of unfortunate events outside of our control, we will be reimbursing these eight guests for their travel costs from Banjur, Gambia, to Dakar, Senegal. We remain in communication with the guests and are providing additional information as it becomes available."

Being careful about timing is one way cruisegoers taking private tours or excursions can help prevent getting into a situation where the ship departs without them, Duckworth told FOX Business.

"You want to make sure to check the time before you book your private excursion," he said. "You want to see what time this ship is scheduled to depart and then ensure your private excursion is not booked longer than that."

Preparation, the Travelmation president and founder said, is also very important for cruisegoers.

"You really want to make sure to be prepared when you’re traveling in a place that you don’t know, that’s a foreign country," Duckworth said. "So you want to make sure to take those essential items with you, whether that would be water or medication or necessary travel documents."

In the event of getting left behind by a cruise ship, there are steps travelers can take. Stranded cruisegoers will need to determine how and where they can reunite with the ship.

Having a travel adviser can be helpful in such a scenario and, according to the Travelmation founder, they can arrange travel to reach the ship’s next destination.

"If you’re not working with a travel adviser, you’re going to want to work with the cruise lines directly or the local authorities to get those resources in your back pocket to get to the next port of call for the cruise," he said.

Duckworth emphasized the importance, "especially if you’re going to take the risks to go out with a third-party private tour operator, to know your surroundings and where you’re at and to do your homework" in case things go awry. For example, some places may have limited daily transportation options.

NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE INTRODUCING TONS OF SOLO ROOMS FOR TRAVELERS

Private excursions not booked through cruise lines have seen a rise in popularity, he said, as they sometimes offer more unique experiences.

The cruise industry overall has been continuing to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, when it had to deal with low passenger counts and restrictions.

More than 36 million people are expected to partake in ocean-going cruises this year, the trade group Cruise Lines International Association has forecasted.

Fox News Digital’s Chris Eberhart contributed to this report.

House Republican impeachment leaders sound alarm on possible DOJ probe of IRS whistleblowers

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Leaders of the House Republican impeachment inquiry into President Biden fired off letters Tuesday to officials at the Justice Department and Internal Revenue Service, demanding answers about “serious allegations of whistleblower retaliation” targeting two IRS agents who have accused the agencies of mishandling a five-year investigation into the president’s son Hunter.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.) revealed in the letters that the IRS whistleblowers may be under federal investigation themselves.

IRS supervisory special agent Gary Shapley and special agent Joseph Ziegler had lawfully made protected disclosures to Congress last year about federal prosecutors covering up damning evidence gathered during the Hunter Biden probe , according to the committee leaders.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) speaks during a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing as part of the House of Republicans' impeachment probe into U.S. President Joe Biden, on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., March 20, 2024.

“Any and all attempts to intimidate or retaliate against Mr. Shapley and Mr. Ziegler for their protected disclosures to Congress must stop,” they wrote to Attorney General Merrick Garland, IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel and special counsel David Weiss.

The impeachment investigators pointed out that Weiss asked for a federal judge to seal a March 11 court filing that revealed “a potential ongoing investigation” by the special counsel’s office connected to Hunter’s case.

“The redacted portion of the Department’s brief is in a paragraph about guidance from the IRS on whistleblowing options distributed to IRS employees, ‘including Shapley and Ziegler,’ suggesting that the whistleblowers may be subjects of the purported ongoing investigation and that the IRS may be involved in it,” they said.

Jim Jordan (R-OH) speaks to reporters as he arrives for a House Republican conference meeting on Capitol Hill on March, 6 2024 in Washington, DC.

Comer, Jordan and Smith demanded that Weiss turn over an unredacted version of the brief and asked Garland and Werfel to hand in all records potentially relating to an internal investigation of the whistleblowers.

The filings, the Republicans say, would shed light on the degree to which the DOJ and IRS have been involved in an “intimidation campaign” waged by Hunter’s defense attorney Abbe Lowell, who has accused Shapley and Zeigler in earlier court filings of “ outrageous misconduct ” for disclosing some of the evidence from their tax investigation.

Lowell and the first son’s former defense lawyer Chris Clark had also previously written letters to Justice Department officials that called for an investigation of the whistleblowers’ conduct.

Supervisory IRS Special Agent Gary Shapley and IRS Criminal Investigator Joseph Ziegler talk with each other as they arrive for a House Oversight Committee hearing related to the Justice Department's investigation of Hunter Biden, on Capitol Hill July 19, 2023 in Washington, DC.

Last year, Shapley and Ziegler testified to Congress that Weiss was initially barred from charging Hunter — and they had been blocked from interviewing first family members or pursuing lines of questioning that could lead to Joe Biden.

They also claimed the Justice Department tipped off Hunter Biden’s attorneys about a planned search of the first son’s storage locker that may have contained evidence — and that DOJ personnel sabotaged a planned in-person interview of the president’s son in late 2020.

The alarming allegations of political interference, which were first made during closed-door interviews with the House Ways and Means Committee, are at the center of House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into Biden, 81.

Special Counsel David Weiss leaves a closed door meeting with lawmakers surrounding the investigation into Hunter Biden during a break at the O'Neill House Office Building on Tuesday November 07, 2023 in Washington, DC.

Hunter Biden initially entered into a probation-only plea agreement with Weiss’ office for alleged tax and gun crimes, but his legal team walked away from the “sweetheart” deal, as critics called it, last July over concerns it would not shield the first son from future prosecutions.

Prosecutors for Weiss, then the Delaware US attorney, revealed in a court hearing that month that Hunter was still the target of an ongoing investigation — potentially for violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act — causing Clark to declare the plea agreement “null and void.”

Following the collapse of the plea deal, Garland elevated Weiss to special counsel, and the Delaware prosecutor indicted Hunter Biden in September 2023 on three counts of lying about his crack cocaine use on a background check form when purchasing a gun in 2018.

Attorney General Merrick Garland

The special counsel also indicted Hunter, 54, in December on nine counts — including three felonies — of evading $1.4 million in tax payments and filing false returns with the IRS between 2016 and 2019.

Lowell earlier this year filed eight motions to dismiss the case, arguing Weiss had caved to political pressure — spurred on by the improper leaks from the IRS whistleblowers — in his “selective and vindictive” prosecution of the first son.

On Monday, Los Angeles US District Judge Mark Scarsi rejected all those motions, and Hunter Biden is scheduled to head to trial on June 20 in the tax case. He is also set to stand trial on June 3 on the gun charges.

Weiss’ office declined to comment. Reps for the DOJ and IRS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Why cruise line Norwegian Dawn did the right thing by ditching passengers

Eight people have accused Norwegian Cruise Line of abandoning them. Now, one cruiser said the ship’s captain did the right thing.

‘I cried’: Bali disaster over tiny passport issue

Eight people have accused Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) of abandoning them on a tiny island in Africa after a private tour ran late and the group missed the embarkation cut-off time.

Four of the group are elderly and another is pregnant , and though the ship was still at anchor, they were denied boarding.

The ship, the Norwegian Dawn, set sail without them – and it was right to do so.

US couple Jay and Jill Campbell as well as Australians in Norwegian Cruise Lines nightmare trip

Once, I was late to check in for a flight. I jumped out of the taxi, sprinted to the counter (which is no mean feat when you’re hauling luggage) and arrived at the desk sweating bullets, prepared to get on my knees and grovel if it meant I’d be allowed through. I began to tell my sob story to the lady at the desk, heart hammering and lungs gasping for air, when she politely interrupted and shook her head.

In the nicest way possible, she said this: “Stiff bickies.” (OK yes, I’ve paraphrased.)

Sure, the plane was still at the airport, no more than a few hundred metres from where I was standing. However, the luggage had already been loaded, the manifest had already been finalised, and the other passengers were already boarding. There was no way they were going to let me board, nor should they have.

Some agree that the ship did the right thing by not letting passengers on board.

You see, I had been on a whale-watching tour about two-and-a-half hours south of the airport – hey, it was my last day, I wanted to make it count. I planned it to perfection, except for one detail: we spotted a playful pod right at the very end, so the captain offered to give us some bonus time to enjoy the view.

With one eye on the magnificent mammals, and another on my watch, I held on to a flicker of hope that I might make it. I jumped on the bus back to town, flagged down a cab, and asked the driver to hurry. I launched out of the car like a 100m sprinter launches out of starting blocks and ran into the terminal.

Alas, my proverbial ship had sailed.

Was it a bummer? Absolutely. But imagine delaying the other 158-or-so passengers scheduled to depart on the Boeing 737, asking the crew to extend their shifts, or holding the plane and disrupting airport traffic … all so little old me could drop off my bags, scurry through security, and find my gate.

Imagine the awkwardness if I stepped onto that plane. What do you say? “Sorry guys, my bad, lol.”

There’s a good reason why the Norwegian Dawn left when it did. Picture: Michel Verdure

That doesn’t even scratch the surface of a cruise ship’s operations. Norwegian Dawn can accommodate 3372 people – 2340 passengers and 1032 crew – and this group of eight expected it to wait?

A ship’s departure time isn’t exactly a mystery.

I sailed on Norwegian Dawn in February and the departure time was published in NCL’s Freestyle Daily newsletter the night before and announced over the loudspeaker multiple times in the morning. It was also posted on signs at the doors where guests disembark.

The golden rule is clear: Make sure you’re back on time, or the ship may sail without you.

So what do you do if you’re left behind? Generally there are two options: either catch up with the ship at a later port or head home. If you’re lucky, you’ll have brought your essentials with you – your passport, phone, credit card, and medication – because all of your belongings will stay on board until the end.

Please don’t get me wrong, of course I’m sympathetic to the distress of those who were left in a foreign country without the safety of the ship. It would be scary and stressful to figure out next steps, especially for the members of the group with higher needs, and disappointing to miss out on their holidays.

However, the unfortunate reality is that ships can’t always wait.

The group allegedly took a private tour, that was not offered by the cruise line.

Private tours are a whole separate issue, because while the ship will wait for official tours – those which have been organised by the cruise ship operator – to return, all bets are off for passengers taking their shore excursions into their own hands. Unofficial tours can be slightly cheaper than those on the ship’s itinerary, with slightly more availability, so they can be attractive. However, while operators will do their best to stick to scheduled times, all bets are off once you board that bus and leave the port.

Think of it like booking multiple legs of a trip with different airlines. They’re not in the same network, they don’t owe each other anything, and they can’t guarantee that you’ll make your connection. Say the bus breaks down. Maybe someone wanders off and takes ages to find. Perhaps the group lingers over a delicious lunch. Someone might need to stop at an ATM or a loo. You could get stuck in traffic. Or maybe your tour will be like mine and you’ll see something incredible that simply makes you want to pause.

The blame game has begun around the passengers left behind by the Norwegian Dawn cruise ship.

And so, eight passengers were left in São Tomé and Príncipe, Africa’s second-smallest country.

“While this is a very unfortunate situation, guests are responsible for ensuring they return to the ship at the published time,” NCL said in a statement, adding that it is communicating with the guests about their next steps. It’s harsh but fair, especially since the other 3364 (or so) people on board got it right.
