Couples Therapy

Journey Counseling works with couples who struggle to communicate, who want to learn new skills to make their relationships flourish, and who want to find a way through a crisis. Couples therapy is a guided session to help you improve your communication with each other and to learn how to solve problems impairing your relationship.

Gail has in-depth training in couples therapy. She is a member of the Couple’s Institute under the direction of Dr. Ellyn Bader and Dr. Peter Pearson. Your sessions are customized to explore and support your change in how you relate to each other.

Marriage & Relationship Counseling

Regardless of how long you’ve been a couple, you can benefit from upgrades to your communication and negotiation skills. Don’t let complaints, old fights, and disillusionment kill off the spark of love and commitment. Marriage Prep

Getting married is an exciting time. There are many projects demanding your attention from engagement parties to finding a dress and a tux to planning the ceremony to looking forward to gathering with friends and family on that most special of days! Those are the sweet rituals that make the process of joining your lives thrilling.  

One caution is to not get so distracted with all the details that you forget to do for the most important project, emotionally joining as partners. Marriage Prep is a 3-hour customized session that gives you an overview of 12 vital topics to compare how you relate, to each other, to your families, to your dreams about the future, and how you deal with conflict and upset. Starting the process begins with a questionnaire you each complete and send back for review. Then we meet and talk about each of the 12-topics. When you finish the course, you have a certificate to give to your church or officiant. This is also a great way to work on marriage enrichment after the wedding when you could use some help working out how we talk and live together. 

Divorce Coaching

If the work you do to try to save your marriage leads you to conclude that you’d rather be “unmarried”, then Journey Counseling can be your advocate, helping you to work through the emotional issues that make divorce difficult.  This process is organized around a team who help you every step of the way.  Collaborative Divorce attorneys work together to help you work toward a settlement that meets the interests of both parties.  Partners getting divorced in the Collaborative process are more satisfied with their future relationship on the other side of marriage. Counseling is provided by Licensed Mental Health Counselors with a combined experience of over 40 years. 

An individualized approach to counseling is used with the purpose of helping clients to see themselves and their circumstances through God’s eyes. Counseling is focused on the here and now and driven by goals that are set in a collaborative process between client and counselor. Hope and compassion are the hallmarks of the counseling relationship at JCS. Our counseling fees range from $145.00 to $250.00 per session. Sessions are available by appointment only. We offer a sliding scale fee option, based on income and the number of people living in your household. We accept cash, personal checks, and credit cards. A Marriage on the Mend

“Our marriage had several problems. My wife and I suffered in silence. I didn’t want to go to a marriage counselor. I felt that my wife and I could just talk to each other about our problems and resolve them on our own. My wife felt more comfortable talking to a third-party and resolving our issues that way. Time passed with no improvement in our marriage.

Finally, I agreed to go to counseling. We didn’t feel comfortable asking friends and family if they knew any reputable marriage counselors. We didn’t feel comfortable going to our pastor for counseling. We eventually found Victor Llerena, and we are so glad we did.

Through the sessions with Victor, my wife and I learned more about ourselves and the things that influence our behaviors. He gave us the tools to work on improving ourselves.
