TOUR IRELAND with DAVID FRANCEY on an Inishfree Irish Music Tour Website -  www.inishfreetours.com

Upcoming tours: june 7 - 16, 2024 oct 6 -15, 2024 april 30 - may 9, 2025 oct 18 - 27, 2025, contact vicki belinoski 512-809-1015 or [email protected], what david has to say about touring ireland:, "i love doing the irish tours. they have become one of the highlights of my year. the country is a gem a place, blessed beyond measure with beauty and culture. the trad music we encounter along the way is truly outstanding. heard live, we are treated to insights into both the musicians and their songs.  , the company i get to keep while running the roads of ireland is as enjoyable as the landscape, interested and interesting folks with eyes and hearts open to this incredible experience. i have made life long friends from around the world on these tours.   , paddy downes and stoney walls, our irish connection tour guides are a joy to spend time and miles with.  no finer friends to be found. along with the stalwart driving and historical commentary, there are many laughs. the bus we are on is always about the happiest bus in ireland on any given day. understandable, given we’re always off to somewhere great while in the best of company.   , i would love to have you see this beautiful country and hear it’s brilliant music with me.".

Read David's notes from David's first tour in 2011 - he had so much fun he never looked back! I led my first Ireland tour August 2011 with Craig Werth and was joined by friends and fans. We traveled through one of the most beautiful places on earth— the south and west coasts of Ireland where we saw rugged coastlines with crashing waves, calm beaches, roadways lined with flowering hedgerows, timeless stone walls and more. As the tour folks warned us I’ll never take the color green for granted again! Well, the tour exceeded all expectations. What a splendid tour our Enchanted Way trip turned out to be. Friends from as far away as Australia, across Canada and the US, piled on the bus and enjoyed ourselves every day. Staying at three excellent hotels in Counties Cork, Kerry and Clare, and taking three day trips from each, we wound through the country side and history of this beautiful island nation. We were never far from the sea or the past. I will write a bit more about the trip shortly, but just wanted to say that it turned out to be the best holiday I have had in years. I so enjoyed the crew on the bus, the spontaneous laughs that rolled through it daily, and the general camaraderie of being among friends. I think none of us will forget the trip or the bond we built together. Our guide and driver, Mick and Paddy were kind, patient and funny men both, playing a large part in the success of the tour. They went from hosts to friends very quickly. Each offered historical and local knowledge. Our stop at Skibbereen in Co. Cork, the epicenter of the Great Irish Famine was a tremendous revelation to me. Craig and I played and sang in the pubs at night, and heard some of Ireland's finest. Outstanding music on offer for the entire trip, and a ready-aye-ready crowd to sing along. The trip was truly unforgettable and I am already looking ahead to next year's tour. Many thanks again to Tom Piggott for his foresight and conception of these unique holidays. I am especially grateful to have enjoyed such a special time, in such a special place. Thanks again to all the boys and girls on the bus. You were a joy to spend time with. Thank you so much for joining us.

I’m just back from my fourth foray with Inishfree tours. It was my second time doing the western tour that starts in Sligo. I had a new driver, Fionan and a new guide, Elva and of course, it was the first tour back after a two year pandemic absence.  New dynamics, new jokes, new songs on the bus – it makes it all fresh.

A bus tour for people who don't like bus tours

It’s truly the bus tour for people who don’t like bus tours. It happens at a relaxed pace. We stayed three nights in each fabulous hotel, hubbing out from Sligo, Westport and Ennis.

The tour is short on twee and long on great info, food, music and stories.

The evening music sessions were great craic, and the days were filled with trips to some truly great sites. Because the coach is smaller, allowing for 23 guests, myself, Elva and Fionan we went to some great out of the way places.

inishfree music tours

It all started when...

My friend, David Francey who has been leading tours for a number of years now, encouraged me to lead one myself!

I went to Ireland for the first time as backpacker when I was 19. My dad was from Monaghan, so I had grown up with the place as stories around the table or songs he sang me to sleep with.

I’ve been going back regularly ever since, but Inishfree has given me a great window on the local music scenes in each of the counties we visit. It’s rare to be on the “inside” of a trad session, but Inishfree takes us there.

How it Works

I get to bring 22 guests along with me. By day we visit gorgeous coastal scenery, beaches, green hills and valleys, visiting ancient sites, stone circles, fishing villages, and more. Each night we return to our hotel, rest and refresh, and meet up for dinner and music with  local musicians along the way. We stay three days and nights in three adjoining counties, travelling in a luxury 25-30 seat coach with an Irish driver and an Irish guide. InishFree has been doing this for a long time. Tour leaders have included David Francey, Buddy Mondlock and Kate Campbell.

Theatres in Moscow

Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.

There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.

A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.

Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.

In August the Bolshoi is closed.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre

This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. You can check the program and buy tickets online here http://stanmus.com/ . If you are opera lover, get a ticket to see superstar Hibla Gerzmava . The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.

The Novaya Opera

“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. You can buy tickets online here http://www.novayaopera.ru/en .

Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center

The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. You can see what is on the program here http://opera-centre.ru/theatre . Unfortunately “booking tickets online” is available in Russian only. If you need help, you can contact us at and we can book a ticket for you.

Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory

These are two major concert halls for symphonic music in Moscow. Both feature excellent acoustics, impressive interior, various repertoire and best performers. You can check the program here http://meloman.ru/calendar/ . You need just to switch to English. Booking tickets online is available only for owners of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian phone numbers. If you need help, you can contact us and we can book a ticket for you.

Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)

This modern and elegant concert hall houses performances of national and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instrumentalists, opera singers, ballet dancers, theatre companies, jazz bands, variety and traditional ensembles. Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances. The President of MIPAC is People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Spivakov, conductor of “Virtuosy Moskvy” orchestra. You can see pictures of the concert halls here http://www.mmdm.ru/en/content/halls . The program is impressive in its variety but is not translated into English. You can contact us at and we can find a performance for you.
