Cruise ships are wonderful vacations for the whole family. However, just like a hotel, it’s often impossible to fit everyone in a single room. Many hotels offer adjoining rooms which make it easy to go from one to the other without ever going out in the hallway. Cruise ships offer similar rooms, but there can often be an upcharge for rooms with adjacent doors. Did you know there’s a secret way to get adjoining rooms for your friends and family without paying any extra? It’s all about the balcony.

How Can I Get Adjoining Rooms on a Cruise Ship?

Call Guests Services once on board to have them remove the divider

Those paying a little more for a balcony room are in for a fantastic view no matter where they’re cruising. If you’re traveling in a group and your rooms are next to each other, did you know that it’s actually possible to remove the divider in between the balconies to create a much larger space? The partitions are there to give people privacy, but they are easily removed with a call to the cabin steward or guest services who have all the necessary tools to get the job done quickly and easily.

There’s no charge for removing the balcony partition, but always make sure you ask about it AFTER you get on the ship. If you call ahead of time, chances are the cruise line will try to sell you on the rooms which adjoin on the interior. If you’re already spending a fair amount for the ocean view, the thought of paying more when you don’t have to is downright crazy.

Save Money on a Cruise

For veteran cruisers, the balcony divider secret is old news, so the sooner you can make the call or stop by guest services, the sooner you’ll be connected to the room next door. They generally work on a first come, first serve basis, so don’t be worried if they can’t come right away to make the change for you!

I worked on cruise ships for 6 years. Here are the 5 best and 5 worst rooms to book for your trip.

• When I worked on cruise ships , I learned that choosing the right cabin can make a big difference.
• Staterooms vary in view and location, and each cruiser should select the best one for their needs.
• Avoiding certain staterooms can minimize outside noise, extra fees, and other inconveniences.

During my six years working for two different cruise lines, I learned how much a cruiser's cabin can affect their onboard experience.

Although I ultimately ended up as an entertainment host, I started my career in guest services, where I frequently dealt with passengers' room complaints .  

Here are what I consider to be the best and worst staterooms to book on a cruise.

BEST ROOMS TO BOOK ON A CRUISE

Ocean-level cabins.

• If you're prone to seasickness, the center of the ship, also called the midship, is the place to be. It's the closest you can get to water level, where you'll feel the least amount of rocking . 
• The smaller the ship is, the more movement you're likely to feel, so those who feel queasy on the water may want to consider booking one of these rooms on a mega ship, which is a vessel with at least 1,500 cabins. 
• Passengers who suffer from seasickness should avoid sailing during hurricane season, which loosely runs from June to November, or traveling on rough bodies of water, such as the Drake Passage.

Studio rooms 

• Certain cruise lines — such as Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and Virgin Voyages — offer single-occupancy staterooms. 
• In the past, cruise lines expected solo cruisers to pay a single supplement , a surcharge for individuals staying in staterooms designed to accommodate more than one person. I've never seen a single supplement required for those staying in a studio or solo cabin, which are intended for one person. It's always a good idea to check for extra fees ahead of booking though.
• Some cruise lines, like NCL , have lounges near these cabins that are only accessible to people staying in single-occupancy rooms. There, solo cruisers can mingle and enjoy social events hosted by the entertainment staff .

Port or starboard staterooms

• You might want to consider your ship's route before booking a stateroom with a window or balcony.
• If you're going down a scenic coastline in one direction, know which side of the ship will face it. That way, you'll know whether to choose a port room, which is on the left side of the ship, or a starboard room, which is on the right side of the ship, to get the best views.

Cabins close to popular attractions

• If you expect to spend a lot of your time in one place — such as the spa, pool deck, or casino — you may want to book a nearby stateroom, or at least one that's on the same side of the ship.
• As an entertainment host who was often running around the ship to host different activities, I found that it was a lot easier to move around vertically than horizontally. 
• Having a cabin on the same side of the ship as your favorite attractions will save you a lot of time, especially on bigger vessels.

Rooms by elevators

• Those who don't want to walk far or are physically unable to do so may want to book a room close to the elevators so they don't have to travel far to get to the ship's public areas. 
• Even though all US-based cruises are somewhat accessible because of the US Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) , travelers with disabilities should always check each specific ship's layout, features, and accessibility beforehand.
• Potential downside: Being located near an elevator may be convenient, but the extra foot traffic in the hallway can result in noise directly outside your room.

WORST ROOMS TO BOOK ON A CRUISE

Staterooms directly above or below busy areas .

• Not every ship has noise issues, but if it does, those problems tend to originate from public areas rather than other staterooms. 
• Look at deck plans before booking to make sure your cabin isn't above or below the casino, buffet, galley, main theater, bar, gym, or pool deck. When I worked in guest services, noise complaints often came from people staying in staterooms located near these busy areas.
• Staterooms surrounded by other staterooms tend to be the quietest. If noise issues do arise there, guest services can send security to deal with noisy neighbors .  

Obstructed ocean-view rooms 

• Partially obstructed ocean-view staterooms have a window that's usually at least a little blocked by a lifeboat. 
• Although many people book these rooms because they're slightly cheaper than ocean-view rooms, the view ends up being more obstructed than expected most of the time.
• I've heard many complaints about heavily obstructed ocean-view rooms, so I suggest saving your money with an interior stateroom or splurging on an ocean-view room to manage your expectations.

Cabins near the anchor

• If your cruise goes to a tender port , where the ship anchors off the shore and transports guests to land on small boats, avoid rooms near the bow on the lower decks. 
• Crew cabins are usually located there , so I'm very familiar with the loud clunking and ticking sounds the anchor makes as it's lowered, which usually happens very early in the morning. 

Adjoining rooms with other parties 

• Some cruise ships have adjoining staterooms with an internal door separating the two neighboring cabins. This option is convenient for families or groups that are traveling together and want to feel like they're sharing one large room. 
• If you don't know the people staying next door, the conjoining door remains locked for the duration of the cruise. However, the sound may carry through it a lot more than it would through a wall.

The wrong room for your personal preferences

• Introverts and those who need their own space may find public areas crowded and overwhelming . They should consider booking balcony rooms, as having a private space overlooking the ocean provides a sense of calmness. 
• Extroverts who want to spend most of their time engaging in activities and enjoying the ship's features are unlikely to spend much time in their staterooms and might as well cut costs by getting an interior cabin . The lack of natural light may also help them sleep well and recoup for the next day's activities.

Yes. There are a limited number of connecting staterooms available on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. Because connecting rooms are a popular request, we recommend booking your staterooms as early as possible.

The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are specially designed to accommodate families and groups. Each ship has over 500 connecting doors that allow for ample connecting staterooms.

Connecting staterooms with verandahs feature a partition that may be opened to create a larger shared balcony.

When you book your cruise, you can find connecting stateroom pairs on your ship (subject to availability) by referring to the locator deck plan when you reserve your first stateroom.

We cannot guarantee the availability of connecting staterooms for Restricted-Fare reservations.

Newer Ships: Noise from Connecting Rooms?

Past threads have discussed noise coming from a connecting cabin. Some folks say, "Never again," while others say they heard nothing more from next door than they did from the hall.

I'm wondering if the newer ships have been better designed to handle sound from next door coming from the space between the stateroom doors.. Can anyone who has sailed a newer ship lately in a connecting room shed any light on this? Would appreciate the input.

In all our cruises, on both old ships & new, we've never really had much of a noisy neighbor problem.

It could be that the complainers are a little to sensitive to the noise?

I had a connecting room on the Royal and I only heard my neighbors once, and that was when we both were near the door.

We had connecting cabins on the Regal and never heard a peep.

The Royal had connecting interior doors put in recently. Don't know if they are more or less soundproof but we heard everything going on next door.

I don't think it is being sensitive when you can clearly hear private conversations over their TV playing music and our TV playing a movie.

Actually we were super careful to be really quiet. Figured if we could hear them they could hear us. They were usually in their cabin already playing the music/TV when we came in and we kept the TV volume low.

I am not sure why someone would say that 'complainers' are the only ones that would mention that the noise from another room would bother them.

I've been in rooms where we've heard the steward vacuuming and even heard people snoring, amongst all sorts of other noise from the room next door in a connecting cabin ... and yes, that sounds like inadequate soundproofing to me. Celebrity has done a great job with how they've designed their connecting rooms ... not so on many other cruis elines.

The ships with connecting rooms are a little more susceptible to allowing noise from the adjoining room. The sounds travel around & under the connecting doors.

On one of our trips I recall the people next door keep their balcony door open often which caused a whistle of air being sucked out of our cabin.

a simple rolled up towel helped a bit.

I now try to avoid booking these rooms whenever possible.

Thanks for your thoughts. Any more? We plan to sail Majestic Princess next year and are interested in one of the angled/extended balconies under the Sea Walk. We enjoy time outside, and the extra space would be great.

I was on the Royal in January. We did not have connecting rooms but I could hear my neighbors loud TV a lot. They were older so maybe had some hearing issues.

We had a connecting room on the Royal and the door was added during a drydock. The big gap on the bottom allowed all kinds of sounds into our room including our neighbors sneezing, talking at normal volume, etc. The steward knew all about it and gave us extra towels to stuff under the door which helped somewhat but it was still noisier than being in a cabin without the adjoining cabin door. Although the soundproofing is likely better when the door is installed during the initial build, we do check for whether or not the cabin is connecting when booking.

Probably due to all the extremely loud music in the show lounge & piazza. :rolleyes:

Only my opinion, but connecting rooms on any ship or hotel room are always more noisy. Because of past experiences, I will never again book a connecting room. And, a rolled up towel does nothing to help.

If you’ve seen all the shows on a particular ship, a connecting room and the free provided entertainment can be quite enjoyable. I suggest stopping to get some popcorn before heading to your stateroom for the show. :cool:

I've never heard anything from any adjoining cabin (connecting or otherwise) except once when 2 young women were having a cat fight! It was so loud the steward had to go check on their welfare! After he had a talk to them never hear another peep.

And, sound goes both ways....

I would hate to think that my husband and I are the the ones providing the entertainment!!!

I think it's best to simply click on the cabin on the deck plans. If it connects to another cabin then look elsewhere. It's not difficult to do and it avoids any possibility of noise through the connecting doors.

The only time we heard noises consistently from an adjoining cabin (no connecting doors) was when a person in the next cabin had a bad cough and would be caughing all night long.

Jhannah, I haven't looked at these specific deck plans on the new ship. But, yes, I am thinking that for specific cabins, in specific areas, non-adjoining might be harder to find. On the Princess web-site, I think you have to click on the specific cabin(s) and look at the 'details', which will say "adjoins with xxxxxx".

Also, as mentioned, they have actually added some adjoining doors on some ships. And, I am not sure the Princess web-site shows this. I do think that there is the one membership deck plan web-site that has went in and added the little adjoining symbol onto their deck plans.

I've stayed in 3 types of rooms on cruises, and the cheapest was never worth it. Here's what to book instead.

• I'm a frequent cruise traveler who's stayed in a variety of onboard accommodations.
• The least expensive rooms have no view and are usually cramped, especially if shared by a family.
• Splurging on a higher-category cabin on my last cruise was the best decision I made.

Automatically booking the cheapest room on a cruise ship without doing proper research first can ruin a trip. 

As someone who's been going on cruises for over 10 years, I've learned that the price tag for these vacations can vary based on a number of factors — from cruise line to trip duration to room category.

Staying in the most standard-level cabin seems like an obvious way to keep costs down. But after trying out three different room categories, both with and without my kids, I've found that a ship's least expensive option is almost never worth it.

Based on my experience in three different cruise-room categories, here are the ones I recommend skipping and the ones I recommend splurging on.

Interior staterooms are limited in space and privacy

The standard (and least expensive) room on any cruise ship is typically called an inside or interior stateroom.

These cabins often sleep three to four people and are located in the middle of the ship, with no exterior view of the vessel's surroundings. 

I've stayed in interior staterooms on a Carnival Cruise Line ship and a Disney Cruise Line ship . Aside from different decor styles and a few small touches, this room category is fairly standard across the board. 

When I'm on a cruise, I like to wake up and open my curtains to look at the ocean or the port where the ship is docked , which isn't an option in these inward-looking cabins.

Apart from having no view, interior staterooms are very small. The exact square footage varies but, for reference, the Disn ey Fantasy cruise ship's interior stateroom is 169 square feet and a Royal Caribbean ship's version is around the same size at 164 square feet .

To put those numbers into perspective, standard hotel rooms in the US are, on average, around 330 square feet , almost double the size of the entry-level cruise accommodation.

I want to be able to maneuver around without tripping over luggage, accent furniture, or my own family members. And because of the lack of space in interior staterooms, that's a challenge.

This category is definitely the most economical option, making it ideal for travelers on a budget .

However, if families, especially ones traveling with teens, can swing an alternative, they should steer clear of cramming into an interior stateroom and opt for a category with more space and privacy.

Ocean-view staterooms provide slightly more space but can still feel cramped

The next category up is usually an ocean-view stateroom.

With an outward-facing window, ocean-view staterooms are a solid mid-tier option for travelers who want more space than an interior stateroom offers but don't want to spend extra for a balcony room.

Their exact size and capacity range from ship to ship, but Disney Fantasy's ocean-view staterooms are 204 square feet , and Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas' version is 179 square feet .

Many of these accommodations fit up to five people. If you have more than four family members (yes, infants who are six months and older are part of the headcount), making the jump from an interior stateroom to an ocean-view stateroom is absolutely worth the extra money.

Some cruise lines sell ocean-view rooms as the entry-level category for families of five or more travelers , simply because many interior staterooms can only accommodate a maximum of four guests.

My top pick is balcony staterooms, which offer privacy and plenty of space 

Balcony staterooms, also known as veranda staterooms, are usually the largest accommodation option you can get without concierge service or extras.

I recommend this category to all travelers setting sail in the future for one reason: the private balcony.

You can open your curtains and enjoy the sights outside, similar to the experience of staying in an ocean-view stateroom. But in this room type, you can step out onto a balcony and take in the sounds and smells, too. 

The rooms' sizes and capacities depend on the ship, but balcony staterooms are usually larger than ocean-view staterooms and tend to sleep up to five guests . Even if the rooms' living spaces aren't substantially bigger, they have the added space of the veranda. 

Including the terrace, balcony staterooms on the Disney Fantasy are 246 square feet and are between 214 square feet to 279 square feet on Princess Cruises' fleet.

When my family stayed in a balcony stateroom on a seven-night cruise, we made great use of the outdoor space. On a shorter cruise, where the balcony itself might not get as much use, I would still book this category for my family.

The upgrade was completely worth the price increase, especially because we were traveling with two sets of grandparents .

To make the most of the balcony staterooms, we even turned our individual verandas into one large terrace by having our steward remove the partitions between rooms.

8 things that happen when you have a cruise ship (almost) all to yourself

Have you ever wished you could have your own private cruise ship? I've felt that way, especially after sailing on vessels at just 25% capacity following the COVID-19 industry shutdown. Something special happens when you're one of only a few passengers on board — something you can experience by staying on the ship during port days.

It might sound counterintuitive, especially if you cruise to see new places. After all, you don't have to take a voyage to lie in the sun, read a book or sleep in; you can do that at home for free. However, if you find yourself in a port you've already visited, and you're craving some relaxation, I highly recommend hanging back while most of your fellow passengers head ashore.

If you're skeptical, here are eight things, both good and bad, that happen when you skip port days and have a cruise ship almost all to yourself.

There are no lines

On a recent sailing, I waited 20 minutes one sea day afternoon to grab a slice of pizza by the pool. It was delicious and worth every second I stood in line, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have liked the wait to be shorter.

The following day, I stayed on the ship when it docked in a port I had been to several times before, and I was able to walk right up to the counter at lunchtime and snag a pie without any wait time at all.

I saw no lines for the usually popular waterslides, and trivia wasn't standing room only as it had been the day before.

You can find quiet spaces

As libraries become a relic of the past on many new vessels, it's increasingly more difficult to find quiet spaces outside of your cabin to read, do puzzles or simply take in the scenery — especially on crowded megaships and on sea days.

When most passengers are on land, many of the public areas transform into quiet spaces by default. Lower decibels make for a more soothing, peaceful atmosphere that lends itself to relaxation. Although certain bars might be closed, their adjoining lounges offer respite from the usual ship hubbub.

You'll never fight for a deck chair

As any avid cruiser knows, it can be downright impossible to snag a sun lounger near the pool on busy sea days. Each morning, some people rise early, slink from their cabins and claim prime poolside real estate by placing their belongings on deck chairs in the most sought-after locations. Then, they return to bed.

These passengers, known as chair hogs , have caused cruise lines to instate time limits. If a chair isn't actually occupied by a person for a certain amount of time, crew members are allowed to remove any items placed on them in order to free up space for other people to use.

You'll never run into this problem when a ship is in port, even on the nicest of days. Most passengers will leave the vessel in search of a beach on which to hog loungers instead; this leaves the pool nearly deserted for anyone who stays on board to enjoy.

Spa appointments abound

You must book certain activities and experiences before you board your sailing if you have your heart set on them. Spa treatments aren't generally one of them.

However, if you find that you're having trouble with the availability of certain treatments after you board or you're looking to score a discount, schedule something on a port day. With fewer people on the ship, more appointments are available; onboard spas and salons will often knock a percentage off the cost of services to entice people to show up when business is slow.

You can peek behind the curtain

One of the most interesting aspects of staying on board when most other cruisers don't is the chance to see some of what the average passenger misses when they're ashore.

Although you won't be able to directly participate in crew drills, you'll likely hear them announced during port days. If you're in the right place at the right time, you might be able to watch from your cabin balcony or an upper deck as lifeboats are launched and tested.

If you're listening closely, you might hear announcements directing the crew to a particular restaurant, bar or public space for faux medical or fire emergencies. If you just so happen to make your way to that area after the call (while staying out of the way, of course), you could see mock CPR rescues or fire responses; some of these practice scenarios are conducted on dummies like Ryan, pictured pre-rescue on Norwegian Viva .

On other ships, you might also be able to catch members of the entertainment crew as they rehearse for that night's show. Theaters are often closed to the public during rehearsals, but sometimes, you can quietly sneak in on the top floor and sit in the back to watch.

On some ships, such as the ones in Carnival Cruise Line 's new Excel Class , the secondary theater is open, and rehearsals can't be blocked off from passenger view. Royal Caribbean 's AquaTheater (on Oasis and Icon Class ships) is also in public areas that guests can access at all times. Grab a coffee or a cocktail, find a seat and get a preview of the show.

You'll miss a day in port

Obviously, if you stay on the ship in port, you won't be ashore, which means you'll miss one of the places on your itinerary. That's why I only recommend skipping port days in places you've already visited.

It definitely can be a bummer when you stay on board only to have your travel companions return to the ship at the end of the day and gush about what a fantastic time they had on a shore excursion or exploring on their own.

Of course, you can always spend part of your day on board before heading to land. Perhaps you sleep in, order room service or have brunch in the dining room, then hit the gym or have a spa treatment. Afterward, you can disembark to enjoy a bit of beach time or a tasty early dinner. That only works if your ship is docked for a significant chunk of time, but it's a nice compromise that won't make you feel like you missed out. It can also help your day to feel less exhausting.

You'll have limited food options

On port days, you won't find as many daytime food choices on board as on sea days. That's because many passengers will take all-day excursions or opt to dine ashore instead of on the vessel, so the ship doesn't need so many eateries to be open for lunch.

On port days, you're likely to be limited to the buffet and a handful of other casual choices like grill fare or pizza. The main dining rooms and specialty restaurants are likely to be closed; if you're hoping for a nicer sit-down lunch, you'll want to plan that for a day at sea.

You'll have fewer choices of onboard activities

A port day is a fantastic time to stay on board and avoid crowds in places like the gym, minigolf course, basketball court, pools and waterslides; these tend to be open regardless of the day. However, you can't avoid lines for every activity — largely because many onboard experiences aren't open on port days (or have limited hours starting in the afternoon).

Closed attractions or ones with reduced hours might include the go-kart track , ropes course, rock-climbing wall, roller coaster or surf simulator . Additionally, you might find yourself out of luck if you were hoping to grab a port-day slot for a hard-to-book escape room or test out a virtual reality ride.

Your options for crew-led events will also be limited, with fewer activities on the daily schedule. The number of trivia sessions might be cut from five or six to two, and you won't find daytime jewelry or spa seminars or art auctions. The ship's bands won't be playing music live by the pool or in the bars, and you're unlikely to find pool deck activities like bellyflop contests scheduled because not enough people are around to participate.

The same applies to the onboard kids club . Although it might be open, the scheduled events will likely be less structured (think movies, video games, and arts and crafts). Keep that in mind if you're cruising with kids and planning not to disembark.

Bottom line

If you're on a cruise and feel drained or sick of the crowds on board, it's OK to skip a port day in favor of resting, relaxing and enjoying a vessel that will make you feel almost like you're the only person on a cruise ship. This is especially true if you hang back in a port you've already visited.

When you stay on board as others disembark, you'll experience a quieter atmosphere, fewer crowds and more opportunities to take advantage of activities and amenities — such as spa treatments, trivia and waterslides — that can be crowded or difficult to book on busy sea days.

Built in 2023, the MSC Euribia cruise ship spends much of the year in Northern Europe.

The newest cruise ship in the MSC Cruises fleet sails Northern Europe itineraries for much of the year. There’s lots to see and do between port calls, so Euribia is a great choice for families, young couples, or groups of friends who don't mind a lively, pan-European onboard atmosphere.

Unlike the line’s other recently-launched ship, MSC World Europa , which was the first in a new class of vessel, the design of Euribia is based on the tried-and-tested ‘Meraviglia Plus’ class.

So, if you’ve sailed on Grandiosa or Virtuosa , the focus on indoor spaces such as the iconic two-deck interior promenade will feel instantly familiar.

The cruise ship, designed to accommodate almost 5,000 passengers at double occupancy, can reach full capacity at 6,327 guests, but this typically happens only during vacation periods when many more children are on board.

'Galleria Euribia' is the venue for many of MSC Euribia's restaurants, shops, bars and parties.

Euribia can feel crowded at popular times, such as pre- and post-dinner on sea days. That’s especially true when adverse weather drives everyone indoors—common in Northern Europe throughout the year.

However, it’s worth taking the time to fully explore the ship on embarkation day , as there are quieter spots to be found. The Carousel Lounge is open throughout the day, and there is a lot of seating around the atrium.

Entertainment For All On Euribia

MSC Cruises is known as a lively cruise line , and Euribia certainly lives up to that reputation, with multilingual, family-friendly activities throughout the day and late-night parties for adults.

The ship’s central feature is the three-deck central atrium and ‘Galleria Euribia’, a visually stunning two-deck interior promenade with a curved LED roof, home to specialty dining, shops, bars, and lounges. It’s a venue for both organized and spontaneous parties, including the captain’s welcome. At one end is the atrium, home to the famous Swarovski staircases .

The ship boasts a spacious rooftop pool deck and a tiered aft sundeck. Key attractions like waterslides, a ropes course, and top-deck waterpark are all popular spots when the weather is favorable. Should that not be the case, there is sheltered seating on the main pool deck.

Inside, the fun keeps going with a covered swimming pool, more hot tubs, a sports court and a vast arcade. Kids clubs are available for various age groups, giving parents a few hours of peace especially on sea days.

Evening entertainment includes three seatings for the main show in the Delphi Theater, which is bookable using the ‘MSC for Me’ app. Although there is no theater bar, the ship’s 21 bars and lounges mean you’re never far from a drink, although be prepared to wait a while at busy times.

Secondary performance space the Carousel Lounge hosts big band concerts in a more informal atmosphere. The flexible space functions as an additional observation lounge during the day, with snacks and full bar service available.

As with all cruise ships, the casino is only open when at sea, and as a welcome plus is entirely non-smoking. Smokers are nevertheless well catered for with several outdoor smoking areas around the ship.

Accommodation Options

The 2,419 cabins on Euribia offer a wide range of choice for guests, although the brown and beige color scheme won’t be to everyone’s taste.

The 755 interior cabins offer the best value, while duplex suites with balcony hot tubs are available for those seeking the most luxurious experience.

Balcony views can be worth the extra money on Norwegian fjords itineraries.

The high number of guests typically sailing on Euribia is one of two very good reasons to splurge on one of more than 1,000 balcony cabins. The other? Northern Europe itself, especially Norwegian fjords cruises .

Such cruises are partly about the ports, but just as much about the sailaway. Having a private space from which to enjoy the scenery is worthwhile. That being said, inside cabins on Euribia are spacious compared with industry standards, and offer the best value.

Inside cabins are an economical yet comfortable way of staying on MSC Euribia.

There is plenty of outdoor space on higher decks to enjoy the scenery, although you will struggle to find a window seat in popular lounges.

Varied Dining Venues

As a line firmly in the mass-market segment of the industry, MSC is not renowned for its food offering. Yet, steady improvement has been made in recent years.

Kaito sushi bar is a speciality restaurant on MSC Euribia.

The inclusive offerings are more than satisfactory, especially the seafood, and the ship’s breads and pasta, all made on board. Also produced on board is fresh mozzarella. More than 650 pounds of it is made—and eaten—every day.

Euribia’s buffet restaurant can be hit-and-miss and does get crowded at popular times, but at least one main dining room is also open for breakfast/brunch/lunch, depending on the day.

Adding to the choice is a number of speciality restaurants, including French-themed Le Grill, Japanese grill, sushi bar, and a Mexican cantina. The latter, with authentic white corn tacos and a $20 all-you-can-eat option, is outstanding value.

Spa And Fitness

With the availability of delicious pizza almost 24/7, it’s wise to get familiar with the fitness offer on Euribia. A well-equipped fitness center with views is open from 6am, and the combined walking and jogging track on deck 16 is popular on sea days.

The Aurea Spa features a thermal area, for which day passes or cruise-long passes are available. A variety of massages and treatments are available in private treatment rooms, while a nail and beauty salon, and a barber shop rounds out the offer.

Aside from the spa, a total of five swimming pools and several hot tubs are available throughout the ship.

The Yacht Club Experience

If the Vegas-style amenities and atmosphere appeal but you want some peace and quiet too, Euribia offers the MSC Yacht Club experience.

MSC’s take on the ‘ship-within-a-ship’ concept is an access-controlled area of the ship for 100 cabins with an exclusive restaurant, bar and lounge, and an outdoor deck with pool, bar and daytime buffet.

Situated at the front of the ship, both the outside deck and observation lounge offer some of the best views anywhere on Euribia .

Unlike other line’s premium offerings, Euribia’s Yacht Club features a range of accommodation, including interior cabins, giving guests a more budget-friendly way to accessing a premium experience.

Guests staying in the Yacht Club pay substantially more, but have access to butler service, and a premium drinks package, among other perks.

A ‘Greener’ Ship

While cruising is anything but a sustainable activity, Euribia is powered by liquified natural gas (LNG), something which not all new cruise ships are.

Although still criticized by environmental campaigners, LNG is considered the ‘greenest’ fuel that’s available today at the scale required for cruise ships. LNG significantly reduces sulphur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions compared with traditional maritime fuels.

MSC also claims an advanced onboard wastewater treatment system, energy efficiency through smart HVAC systems, and the ongoing ocean conservation work of the MSC Foundation .

Euribia isn’t for everyone, but what cruise ship is? If you enjoy a lively atmosphere, a packed program of activities, and a healthy dose of Vegas-style sparkle and glamor, Euribia could be for you.
