Turkish operator Fibula turns to Peakwork to offer more dynamic range of trips
Eastern Europe travel specialist opts to invest in its future during the COVID-19 crisis
Turkish tour operator Fibula Air Travel is to use Peakwork technology to offer a more flexible range of packages and single component products.
The Eastern Europe specialist is poised to roll out its new product in multiple markets both B2C and B2B.
The firm operates in six countries including Romania, Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey as a tour operator, as well as a Destination Management Company and a hotel operator.
Peakwork said by adopting its ‘player hub’ platform Fibula will be able to offer dynamic packages containing own and third party hotel content, charter flights and Sabre GDS fares.
Frequently searched flights will come from the Peakwork cache while long-tail flight offers will be requested from Sabre.
Fibula will oversee the B2B and B2C frontends which will be developed by Peakwork distribution partner for Benelux, Netmach.
Ayhan Mavisu, chief executive of Fibula Air Travel, said: “Amid the C0VID crisis, we decided to invest in the Peakwork system as we trust it’s the best way to connect with all the major companies that already use their technology and network.
“We are delighted with our new partnership and look forward to launching the new solution, as well as the flexibility to react to rising demand across our various sales markets.”
Ralf Usbeck, Peakwork chief executive, added: “This project is a very new and modern set-up.
“Fibula will be able to rapidly react with highest flexibility to current market requirements – independently in all countries where the tour operator is active.
“We very much appreciate this initiative in these challenging times and will strongly push forward this project and future oriented strategy.”

Turkish tour operator Fibula invests in flexible new technology based on Peakwork
With its new IT solution based on Peakwork, Fibula will be able to offer dynamic travel packages containing both own and third party hotel content, combined with its own charter flights and flights from the Sabre GDS.
DUSSELDORF / ANTALYA – Major Eastern European tour operator, Fibula , uses the current market situation to relaunch its tour operator system on Peakwork technology. Fibula will flexibly offer dynamic packages in numerous markets as well as accessing single travel components, such as accommodation and flights, for B2B and B2C sales.
Fibula, headquartered in Antalya, Turkey, operates in six countries as a tour operator, as well as a DMC agency and running its own hotels. Countries include Romania, Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey.
With its new IT solution based on Peakwork, Fibula will be able to offer dynamic travel packages containing both own and third party hotel content, combined with its own charter flights and flights from the Sabre GDS. The first hybrid connectivity will be implemented where frequently searched flights come from the Peakwork Player caches and long tail flight offers will be requested in the Sabre inventory, ad hoc, in line with customers’ online demand. Fibula will implement the B2B and B2C frontend which will be developed by Peakwork’s distribution partner for Benelux, Netmach.
Ayhan Mavisu , CEO of Fibula Air Travel, explained: “Amid the Covid crisis, we decided to invest in the Peakwork system as we trust it’s the best way to connect with all the major companies that already use the Peakwork technology and network. Drone attacks in Moscow’s glittering business district leave residents on edge
- Show more sharing options

The glittering towers of the Moscow City business district dominate the skyline of the Russian capital. The sleek glass-and-steel buildings — designed to attract investment amid an economic boom in the early 2000s — are a dramatic, modern contrast to the rest of the more than 800-year-old city.
Now they are a sign of its vulnerability, following a series of drone attacks that rattled some Muscovites and brought the war in Ukraine home to the seat of Russian power .
The attacks on Sunday and Tuesday aren’t the first to hit Moscow — a drone even struck the Kremlin harmlessly in May. But these latest blasts, which caused no casualties but blew out windows on a high-rise building and sent glass cascading to the streets, seemed particularly unsettling.
“It’s very frightening because you wake up at night hearing explosions,” said a woman who identified herself only as Ulfiya as she walked her dog, adding that she lived in a nearby building. Like other Muscovites interviewed by the Associated Press, she did not identify herself further out of fear of retribution or for her personal safety.
Another resident, who gave her name as Ekaterina, said Tuesday’s blast “sounded like thunder.”
“I think for the first time, I got really scared,” she said. “I don’t understand how people in a war zone can live like this every day and not go mad.”

Russia says Moscow and Crimea hit by Ukrainian drones while Russian forces bombard Danube port
Russian authorities accuse Ukraine of a drone attack on Moscow, while Russia continues barrage on ports, striking on the Danube River.
July 24, 2023
The Russian Defense Ministry said it shot down two Ukrainian drones outside Moscow and had electronically jammed another, sending it crashing into the IQ-Quarter skyscraper that houses government offices including the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications and the Ministry of Industry and Trade — the same building that was hit Sunday.
A cordon went up around the building and personnel from the fire department and the Russian Investigative Committee were at the scene. Hours later, residents strolled through the district along the Moscow River or sat on benches in the sunshine. By about 1 p.m. Tuesday, workers were already starting to replace damaged windows.
The business district, a 10-minute subway ride west of the Kremlin, is home to some of Moscow’s flashiest restaurants, offering far-reaching views of the capital and a menu of upscale fare like three types of caviar, shellfish from Russia’s Far East and French cuisine.
But there was no escaping the grim news.
While Russian state television has largely played down the strikes, one channel sandwiched a segment on how Moscow’s air defenses successfully intercepted the drones in between reports highlighting Russian attacks on Ukraine.
Sleepless in Kyiv: In Ukraine’s capital, the stress of war weighs on everyone. How do people cope?
How do citizens of Kyiv cope with the sleep deprivation and stress from Russia’s war on Ukraine? Some push it down, some try yoga or dancing.
July 5, 2023
Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to President Volodymyr Zelensky, said in Ukraine that Moscow “is rapidly getting used to a full-fledged war,” without confirming or denying Kyiv’s involvement in the drone attacks that in recent days have struck from the capital to the Crimean Peninsula.
After Sunday’s strike, the Kremlin said security would be ramped up.
Still, the size of the drone that hit the Moscow City district led analysts to question the effectiveness of the capital’s air defenses, suggesting it could have been launched from Ukraine.
“If this is the case, this would be rather embarrassing for Russia’s air defenses. If a drone has been in Russian airspace for hours, air defenses should have picked it up earlier and shot it down earlier,” said Ulrike Franke, an expert in drones and military technology at the European Council on Foreign Relations.
While they haven’t caused much physical damage, bringing the drone campaign to Moscow “blows holes in Russia’s narrative that the war on Ukraine is successful and that it is being prosecuted far away from any consequences for the Russian people themselves,” said Keir Giles, a Russia expert at the Chatham House think tank in London.
“That is something which is going to be harder and harder for Russia’s propaganda machine to explain away,” he said.
In Ukraine, a harvest of death as bodies of the fallen are returned to their hometowns
Even far from Ukraine’s front lines, military funerals set off waves of mourning. ‘You can’t see an end to it,’ one chaplain says as the war drags on.
June 26, 2023
A Muscovite who identified himself to the AP only as Eldar summed up the strikes this way: “We attack them, they attack us. And it’s obvious that they will succeed somewhere, and we will succeed somewhere. We should try to strengthen the defense.”
In Odintsovo, where some of the drones were downed about 18 miles southwest of the capital, some residents discussed the events on their local Telegram channel.
One woman talked about hearing noises that turned out to be a car or improperly closed trash containers, and seeing what she thought were drones but actually were a flock of birds, a plane and a wind-blown plastic bag.
“How is it possible to live like this?” she asked the group.
“Stop creating panic,” one member admonished her.
“If you hear a noise, be happy because it hasn’t hit you,” added another.
Burrows reported from Tallinn, Estonia.

From the capital to Siberia 30 Indian travel companies visited Moscow and Tyumen
Delhi, India (NewsVoir) • Representatives of 30 Indian travel companies visited Moscow to learn about a new tourism project • Russian holidays: From the capital of Russia to the capital of Siberia” and establish business contacts with representatives of the Russian tourism industry The project “Russian holidays: From the capital of Russia to the capital of Siberia” was presented at a B2B session organized jointly by the Moscow City Tourism Committee and Aeroflot on 31st August 2023. As part of the project, Indian travelers will have the opportunity to discover the beautiful sights of Moscow and the mysteries of Siberia, explore the Siberian capital, Tyumen, soak in thermal springs, and try local cooking. Members of the Indian delegation participated in over 800 negotiations that took place between companies, thus significantly expanding the number of potential service providers and the range of options available for Indian tourists. Evgeny Kozlov, Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee said, “Meetings like this enable us to tell our colleagues from abroad about tourism products and introduce Indian travel companies to what the capital has to offer. Indian tour operators traditionally highlight the developed hotel and exhibition center infrastructure of the Russian capital, and consider it important that Moscow tourism operators are familiar with the tastes of Indian tourists and the specific demands of the Indian market. I am confident that the strengthening and development of cooperation between travel companies in our countries can help increase the number of Indian tourists who discover Moscow and other Russian cities. This is a fine opportunity to combine two regions that offer a wealth of sights and activities.” The representatives from Indian tourism companies expressed that their visit had opened up new avenues for bringing more Indian tourists to Russia. They expressed confidence that the number of Indian tourists would steadily increase, especially with the assistance of the new simplified visa regime. Jay Saraogi, Director of HolidayTripster said, “Until recently it was expensive and took a long time to get a Russian visa. But now our tourists can get a visa in 4 days and stay in Russia for 16 days. In the past, we worked with a small group of Russian tourism operators. In the capital, we were able to extend our contact networks and I am now sure that, whatever the client’s request, I can find a suitable tour.” Mahid Mangwani, Director of TravelCanvas stated, “We have been doing business in Russia since 2016. I always recommend my clients to visit Moscow – It has great infrastructure, spectacular buildings, a highly developed and convenient public transport system, clean roads, and high standards of driving. And I am glad that now Indian tourists will be able to learn more about both Moscow and Siberia. I am sure that these destinations will be popular with our tourists.” Indian tourism operators pointed out several advantages of Moscow as a destination, including its high standards of hospitality and safety, one of the world's most beautiful metro systems, a diverse cultural scene, vibrant nightlife, and delicious cuisine. Pankaj Sharma, Branch Manager at Akbar Group said, “Since food holds significant importance for Indian tourists when traveling abroad, it's worth noting that Moscow boasts a wide array of Indian restaurants that serve authentic cuisine. I highly recommend our tourists to consider visiting Russia for this reason.” Moscow provides visitors with numerous opportunities for cultural tourism and the chance to enjoy nature as well. The capital has over 10,000 theatres, museums, libraries, parks, cinemas and concert halls. In the last 10 years, around 900 parks and green spaces have been modernized. The city also has a whopping 18,500 cafes and catering establishments, including Indian restaurants. For those seeking cityscape views, there are several options in Moscow, including riding the Moscow cable car, visiting the observation decks of skyscrapers, exploring the hanging bridge at Zaryadye Park, and checking out viewpoints in the city center and other areas of the capital.
