Amber Cove on a Cruise: Things to Do, Prices, Map, and More

Headed to the eastern Caribbean on a Carnival or Princess cruise? Chances are that it may include a stop in a port known as Amber Cove.

Amber Cove sign with a ship behind it.

This port — located about six miles west of Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic — is a dedicated area for passengers of Carnival Corporation ships. So if you’re sailing a Carnival brand and headed to the area, then this is where you’ll stop.

You can think of Amber Cove much like a private island, only it is still part of the mainland. But here you’ll find all kinds of amenities for cruise passengers, from a pool area to shopping to restaurants. And while it is a jumping off point for seeing Puerto Plata, the truth is that you could spend all day inside the port area if you wanted and have plenty of fun.

So what exactly is there to see, do, and know about Amber Cove? We recently visited to give you all the ins and outs about the spot.

Location & Layout of Amber Cove

Map showing location of cruise ports in Puerto Plata

First things first, it’s nice to get a lay of the land with the port, its location, and what’s around.

Amber Cove sits in a small inlet, about 10-15 minutes by taxi from Puerto Plata. Around the port there is very little, although there is a resort right next door. Apart from that, it’s largely open space with hills and pastures. As a result, if you want to go anywhere outside the port, you’ll need some sort of transportation. Walking outside the port isn’t really feasible.

As for the layout of the port area itself, it’s fairly easy to navigate. First, your ship will dock at the pier, and then it’s a short walk to Amber Cove. You enter through the duty-free store. Once through, straight ahead will be the meeting points for booked shore excursions. To the left are a number of restaurants, shops, and the way to exit the port and grab a taxi. To the right is the “Aqua Zone” that’s complete with a huge pool, waterslide, cabanas, and much more (more on this below).

You can get an idea of the layout via the map below:

What Is There to Do at Amber Cove?

This port area is custom made to entertain cruise passengers. In many ways you can think of it as an extension of the cruise ship. Below we cover all the things to do in port. If you plan to go explore nearby Puerto Plata, then we have a complete guide of things to do here .

Need a souvenir? Or maybe to pick up something from the pharmacy? Or jewelry? Or alcohol? No matter what’s on your shopping list, there will be a store in Amber Cove that sells it. The shopping area takes up one entire side of the port, giving you plenty of options to choose.

Get a Picture in Front of the Ship

As you get off the ship, take a left and then head to the end of the port area. At the far corner of the port is a perfect spot to get a picture in front of your ship. There, you’ll find a large display writing out “AMBER COVE!” with a spot in the middle that shows the ship perfectly. Step up and get a souvenir photo to remember your trip.

Grab Something to Eat

Want to eat? Remember that you can just head the short walk back to the ship and eat for free, or you can grab a bite in port. There are a couple of sit-down restaurants serving casual fare. One is right by the pool and the other at the opposite end of the port near the “AMBER COVE!” sign. There’s also a Nathan’s hot dog trailer by the pool. Just know that unlike some private ports, the food isn’t free here. You’ll have to pay out of pocket.

Enjoy a Drink (or Three)

What would a Caribbean port be without something to drink? There are bar stations around the pool, as well as the large Coco Cana (a restaurant by the pool with a swim-up bar) serving libations. But perhaps the coolest place to have a drink is Sky Bar — a bar sitting on a hill that overlooks the port and offers cool views of the ship and surrounding area.

Hit the Pool

dominican republic carnival excursions

If you’re going to stay in port, then by far the big attraction is the pool area. The pool here is large, with tons of loungers all around. It’s broken into different areas that are connected with bridges so even though it can be busy, it can still make the spots seem more private. The main portion of the pool near the swim-up bar gets pretty lively. Head around from there and you can find a calmer vibe.

Try the Waterslide

dominican republic carnival excursions

One fun feature is a pair of waterslides that circle around near the edge of the pool. The twin slides spin around several times before dumping you into a dedicated splash pool. The entrance can be a little hidden, but it’s along the back of the port area and up a hill. You’ll be able to see the slides from the pool — just head over to figure out where to go. There is a 230 pound weight limit, and you must be at least 4 feet tall to ride.

Sail Across the Port on a Zipline

Head to the pool area, and you’ll likely hear the zipline before you actually see it. The lengthy run heads straight over the entire pool area, letting out a high-pitched whine as people go over. The cost is $28 for unlimited rides while you are in port.

Live it Up in a Cabana

dominican republic carnival excursions

To be sure the port area can get busy. When we visited, two of Carnival’s largest ships were in port, making it crowded. If you want a little more elbow room, then there are cabanas that you rent out. There’s a group of them that sit out over the bay and others that sit overlooking the pool. Rates start at $340 per day and most are in this range, except for the Grand Cabana, which runs a pricey $1,170.

Kids Water Park

dominican republic carnival excursions

Are you sailing with little ones (about five years or younger)? If so, then there is a splash area designed for smaller kids. It features a small slide, a tree that sprays water, and a large fish that kids can climb in. If you have kids that aren’t ready for the pool, it’s a fun spot for them to get wet and enjoy themselves.

Feeling a little more active? If you want to shoot some hoops, there is a basketball area. It’s located at the far end of the port, past the pool and the kid water park. It’s not much — just a hoop and a half-court area, but it’s a fun option if you want to do something other than lounge by the pool.

Kayak/Pedal Boat/Paddleboards

If you want to get out on the water, then there are plenty of rentals to choose from. Cruisers visiting Amber Cove have the option of renting kayaks, paddleboards, pedal boats, and more. The fees are a bit steep — starting around $35 per hour — but some of those can be split by multiple people such as the pedal boats that carry four. Half-hour rentals are also available.

Price List for Amber Cove

We’ve mentioned several things to do that come with an extra charge. Below is the pricing from a recent visit to give you an idea of what things cost.

Tips & Things to Know

Before you visit, there are definitely some things to know about the port that will make your trip go smoother.

Taxis are Expensive

dominican republic carnival excursions

Amber Cove sits about six miles away from Puerto Plata. You’d think that getting back and forth would be cheap, but think again. Taxi rates from the port to town are sky-high, costing $70 round trip according to the rates seen posted. With that in mind, it’s likely worth it to book an excursion instead if you want to go to town, which will include transportation.

There’s a Charge for Most Extras in the Pool Area

If you want to spend the day at the pool, access is free, as are loungers. Most other things will cost money. Everything from umbrellas to pool floats to lockers cost extra, as do certain “VIP” areas. You can see a list of the charges in the “Price List” section above.

Drink Packages/Wi-Fi Don’t Work in Port

While Amber Cove might have the vibe of a private cruise line island, it’s actually not. And that means unlike some private islands where drink packages and wi-fi service bought on the ship also extend to the port, it’s not the case here. Instead, if you want to drink then you’ll have to pay bar prices. And wi-fi service is available in the port area for $8 per day.

Free Wi-Fi at Stores

dominican republic carnival excursions

As we just said, the wi-fi from the ship doesn’t work in port. And while you can pay the $8 for all-day access while visiting, there is also a free option. Check out the stores in Amber Cove. You’ll find that some offer free wi-fi access as an incentive for you to visit the shop. It can give you the opportunity to check in back home if you only need the Internet for a short bit.

Check Out the Sky Bar for Great Views

If you want the best view in Amber Cove, then check out a spot called Sky Bar. It sits at the top of a hill that overlooks the port. You can’t miss the large white-roofed structure that’s visible from nearly everywhere. Head up here for a tropical drink and a unique spot to relax while in port.

Be Sure to Bring a Towel From the Ship

Spending the day at the pool? If so, you’ll want to be sure to bring a beach towel from the ship. All cruise ships offer towels to passengers (typically there is a station by the pool). You can bring these into port with you. There are no towels available in the port, so if you forget yours, then you’ll have to air-dry.

Be Early or Be Late to the Pool

Obviously the pool area is a big draw at Amber Cove, and during the peak of the day (between around 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.) it can get pretty crowded if you are in port with large ships. If you are the only ship docked, then it’s not as big a deal. But if there are multiple ships, then it’s smart to arrive early to stake out a prime spot. As well, going later in the afternoon also sees smaller crowds as many head back to the ship despite all aboard not usually being until the evening.

  • WisconsinMamasita 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Simply AMAZING!! I highly recommend booking your Saona Island adventure with SeavisTours Bayahibe. We just went with them on a tour on March 27th and had an amazing day. Seavis does small group, speedboat tours and the tour guides are the best! Our first stop of the day was to the small fishing village of Mano Juan. Here were we able to explore the village and shops and visit the Sea Turtle Project where we learned about the efforts being done to increase the survival of the sea turtles on Saona Island. The season for egg laying and hatching typically runs June to November but it was still neat to see and hear about what they are doing. Next we went to my favorite beach of the day, Canto de la Playa. This beach was incredible!! The bay is protected by a reef barrier which made for some awesome snorkeling. The final beach was Catuano Beach where we stopped to relax and enjoy lunch. There were hammocks and tons of beach chairs to just sit and enjoy the beauty. It was perfect. On our way back to Bayahibe, we passed near the mangroves and saw a sting ray and a couple sea turtles and then on to the natural swimming pool to view the starfish that call this area home. The beaches of Saona Island are truly stunning. I feel like so many of our pictures look like postcards! Seavis Tours did a fantastic job of making this day unforgettable. I can't wait to come back some day and will definitely be booking again with Seavis. Read more Written April 6, 2024
  • D9522YQcolleenb 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Day full of fun and learning the culture in the D.R. This tour provided an exceptional experience. We embarked on a jungle trek, exploring several caves, one of which offered a unique swimming opportunity. It is advisable to be in good physical condition for this excursion, as reaching the swim cave can be challenging. Following our jungle adventure, we enjoyed a serene boat ride down the river to the farm. The farm's owner graciously engaged me in conversation while the rest of the group embarked on another walk. He provided fascinating insights into the sourcing and preparation of our delicious boat lunch, which showcased authentic Dominican Republic cuisine. Additionally, he shared insights into cocoa bean cultivation and more. While my family indulged in kayaking and river rope swings, I opted to observe, but they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I highly recommend this tour for an enriching and enjoyable experience. Read more Written April 2, 2024

Ingrid, Antonio and crew were top-notch tour guides treated us like family. The snorkeling, lunch, tour of the village and turtle sanctuary, as well as everything about the day was amazing. I would go back in a heartbeat & would recommend this company to anybody wanting to see Saona. The speedboat was the way to go, less time on the water meant more time on the island. • WHB70 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Saona Island VIP tour. A big disappointment. Not as advertised. We did the Saona Island VIP tour with Seavis Tours from Bayahibe. We were disappointed with the experience. After gathering at the Seavis premises along with people for two or three other tours we were ushered to a boat. Except the staff didn’t seem to know what boat or where it was. After a lot of shouting a speedboat was squeezed through other boats to the shoreline. The staff were excellent at helping everyone safely on board. Expect an exciting bumpy ride (as indicated) on a cramped boat. At times we were literally racing other speedboats and at no time did we visit places of interest “away” from thousands of other tourists. The places we visited were crowded with other boats and visitors. The tour we did did not follow the itinerary as advertised on the Seavis website. We arrived at Mano Juan village (don’t expect a “picturesque fishing village”). There was no guided tour just a route march to a turtle project shed where there were no turtles but tables of stuff for sale. We learnt nothing about the turtle project as the talk had started before we got there and was very garbled. Throughout the day the guide was so rushed and just went through his spiel switching from one language to the next. We saw some rocky coastline but no wildlife on it. We saw a mangrove area - again no wildlife. We stopped at the end of a long line of boats on a beach and were told that we could snorkel from one end of the beach to the other immediately behind these boats that the guide told us would be leaving. Yes, he was advising us to snorkel immediately behind boats backing out from the beach - clearly very unsafe. There were some fish to see but the current was very strong so most people were unable to snorkel. We then went to our second beach area for lunch. Whenever we stopped our guide did not indicate how long we would be there so it was difficult to know if you had time for a swim, walk, eat etc. The lunch was put out after a bit of a wait. The food was then descended upon by flies and many birds so you had to be quick if you wanted anything. You certainly wouldn’t want to go back for anything else. Apparently we had 1.5 hours at this stop. We were harassed by ladies wishing to sell massages. On our return home we stopped at a shallow area (along with lots of other boats) and saw 5 starfish. We saw one turtle during the trip. We didn’t stop at 3 beaches as indicated on the itinerary. There was no “private beach” as advertised. On the whole the trip was not ecologically positive as we learnt little, saw very little wildlife and were racing around on a speedboat. We were not hassled by the trip photographer after we made it clear we didn’t want our photos taken. Others that had been photographed were hassled for payments with constant tapping on their shoulders during the return trip. At the end of the trip the guide was very insistent on a tip thrusting his hat on everyone and actually inspecting the amounts given. Read more Written March 7, 2024

  • 423lindies 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great day for Saona with Seavis! We did the Saona VIP tour. Keep in mind that we’ve done the Saona tour with other operators about 10 times. The Saona VIP with Seavis is nothing like the others. Our tour guide, Ingrid, was a gem. She is very knowledgeable and told us so much about the environment and Mano Juan. We visited 3 beaches, the village of Mano Juan, the natural pool, the mangroves and turtle sanctuary. Our family had lots of fun. There is shade on the boat. It’s a small group, and it’s not a party boat, so that was really fun for us. Our captains Antonio and Kaki also did a great job. Thank you Laura and Ingrid, this was definitely our best Saona tour. We highly recommend and we’ll be back! Read more Written March 6, 2024
  • MisterAndry987 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles SPECTACULAR experience! What an amazing experience. I strongly suggest this excursion. If you are looking for a more relaxed and close-to-nature experience, you must avoid catamarans and go with speed-boat, just like the one SeaVis offers. They will take you to MORE beaches than the catamaran do, and you will avoid large crowds and relax in the amazing sand beaches of Saona. Also, speed-boat gets you to Canto de la Playa Beach, a magical place that catamarans wont reach. Our guide Roberto really made our day unique. We stopped at the Manu Juan, Canto de la Playa, Catuano Beach, Piscina Natural, mangroves, turtle santuary. Food and drinks were included. It was just amazing. Roberto gave us interesting informations and guided on our journey with carisma, energy and exceptional personality. I strongly reccommend this tour! • Kittygangar 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Excellent trip for the physically fit An excellent trip to the most beautiful place. Ingrid our guide clearly loves the Dominican Republic people and lifestyle, and she shares her knowledge and experience with the max 26 people on each trip. You stop by boat at rocks where you might see giant iguanas, snorkel in clear Caribbean waters, visit Uncle Negro’s turtle hatching project and buy delicious honey and coconut oil from him to support his work. Then a simple but filling lunch, rum aplenty, shallow Pirates of the Caribbean swimming with starfish, and back. However, a word of warning, it’s a small speedboat and the jarring bumps as you crash over the waves are no good for those with bad backs. It’s also not easy to get on or off, but the crew are always happy to help. Read more Written January 24, 2024

Amber cove shore excursions to the dominican republic.

Amber Cove is located on the Dominican Republic's north coast (Caribbean Sea), just outside of Puerto Plata. Puerto Plata is a historical town discovered by Christopher Columbus. Amber Cove encompasses 30 acres of waterfront property and the port was named "Amber Cove" after the rich amber mineral reserves found in the region.

Damajagua Waterfalls

Experience an eco-adventure like no other. Damajagua, or "27 Charcos" (27 Pools), is a hidden treasure nestled in the rolling hills of the Northern Corridor mountain range. Completely immerse yourself within this tropical rainforest that offers captivating views and some epic waterslides. Or, ditch the waterslides and jump down to get back to basecamp. Just be careful - waterfall jumps can be up to 25 feet high!

Watersports Galore

There are several beaches worth checking out near the cruise terminal, from Playa Dorada to Grande. Get wet and wild with all the watersport activities Amber Cove has to offer. You can rent many different types of equipment, such as stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, hydro-bikes, pedal boats, and solar catamarans. Snorkeling and scuba diving equipment rentals are also available. Prefer to stay dry? Book a deep-sea fishing charter boat instead.

Explore Puerto Plata

Hike your way up or hop on the only cable car to the summit of Mount Isabel de Torres, located in the city of Puerto Plata, and just a quick 20-minute car ride from Amber Cove. The summit is 2,555 feet above sea level and offers prime Puerto Plata sightseeing. Once at the peak, hike the beautiful botanical gardens filled with local flora and caves, or get some photos of the Christ the Redeemer Statue (a smaller version of the one in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). Ocean World Adventure Park is located in Puerto Plata too. It's a must-see attraction if you're in the Dominican Republic. Here you can have close encounters with dolphins, sea lions, and sharks that kids will surely enjoy. Adults can keep the fun going at night. With the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop, Ocean World also offers an entertaining nightlife option for grown-ups. There are a ton of things to do inland as well, from cigar factory tours to local marketplace shopping. Again, there is simply too much to list. But that is what makes Amber Cove a great vacation destination. Shore Excursions offers nothing but the best excursions and tours in the Caribbean and beyond! Make the most of your cruise ship experience with us.

Carnival in the Dominican Republic

Enjoy one of the most original festivals and with the greatest traditions of the dominican republic..

Carnival in the Dominican Republic

The Carnival is a very rooted tradition for the Dominican people and a true expression of their identity.

The first Carnival celebrations in the island date back to 1520, Colonial time. During the Haitian occupation, the costumes were let apart until again, from 1844 and on, the Dominicans came back to the streets, although without the association of the Carnival to religious festivities, but making it a true festivity which was celebrated three days before Ash Wednesday. This is why the month of February has been since then the month of the Carnival in the Dominican Republic .

Every Sunday of the month, different cities organize their parades. Although beauty is around each of one of these exhibitions, the worldwide known Carnival is the one celebrated in La Vega and, as it was expected, the one organized in the capital, Santo Domingo , usually celebrated between the last Sunday of February and the first of March. In this last one, the Ministry of Tourism and Culture gives awards to the best costume, groups, etc., divided in different categories.

The distinctive about the amazing Dominican Carnival is the influence of different cultures on its evolution. In addition to the undeniable Spanish presence, it counts with a great variety of characters coming from the African cultures or the traditions of other countries, such as the ‘Diablo Cojuelo’, the ‘Califé’ or the ‘Roba la gallina’, among many others which, by the rhythm of the dance and music, blend into and mix up with the colourful parades.

Regarding the crafter and flashy masks, on their beginnings, they followed the traditional technique original from Spain but bit by bit they evolved thanks to the contribution of slaves coming from Africa and the free men whom, with their work, gave the place the famous handicraft tradition of the well known ‘ Careteros ’, the craftsmen who make the Dominican masks. These are elaborated with papier machê, feathers, newspapers, banana leaves, a painted pumpkin, top of little bottles or clothes, among many other recyclable materials which are harmonized and complement in a process made up by sequential steps and which, sometimes, turn to more advanced procedures and materials.

You can also find the ‘ Diablos cojuelos ’ which wear a whip or the ‘vejiga inflada’ with which they flog the peasants to eliminate the negative energies and purify them, in order to let the positive energies flow.

All out, there are different organized tours by some of the agencies to enjoy the Carnivals, discovering the meaning and symbology of the characters, costumes or actions, just as tasting the most customary dishes of the area or even visiting the La Vega caves , from where the ‘Diablos Cojuelos’ come from.

Carnival in the Dominican Republic

Dominican Carnival– carnaval dominicano –is the most vibrant celebration of Dominican culture and identity. It’s a time when Dominicans of all ages and from all regions take to the streets, at home or in neighboring carnival cities, to enjoy parades with their families and loved ones.

Every Sunday during the month of February, colorful parades take place in every major city and region around the DR–some extending through the first week of March. La Vega Carnival is the oldest, largest, and most popular of all, followed by Santiago. Other cities hosting unique parades include Santo Domingo, Montecristi, Bonao, Puerto Plata, Río San Juan, and Barahona. Costumes, masks, and mystical characters are distinct to each area and reveal Dominican folkloric traditions and beliefs, as diverse as the country’s population.

The season usually launches with a vibrant indoor carnival gala show held in Santiago and culminates with Independence Day celebrations on February 27. The most colorful event of all is the final National Carnival Parade–held the first Sunday of March in the capital of Santo Domingo, it brings together carnival groups and characters from around the DR for one last, big carnival hurrah along the city’s Malecón waterfront boulevard.

While you can head to any carnival town or city on your own, several tour agencies also organize carnival day trips during the month of February, particularly to La Vega Carnival.

Carnaval Bonao

ORIGIN & HISTORY

Carnival in the Dominican Republic dates back to 1520, during the Spanish colonial times. Some researchers say the first carnival events took place as a celebration of a visit by Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, when inhabitants disguised themselves as Moors and Christians.

Between 1822 and 1844, the tradition of wearing costumes during religious festivities almost disappeared during the Haitian occupation. But it returned immediately when the country achieved its independence on February 27, 1844. Costumes were then no longer associated with religious celebrations, and evolved into actual carnivals, celebrated during the three days prior to Ash Wednesday. February was then established as the month of carnival in the Dominican Republic.

To fully enjoy and understand Dominican carnival, familiarize yourself with the main characters, and their significance in Dominican folklore.

El   Diablo Cojuelo   is carnival’s leading character. This “limping devil” wears a colorful cloaked suit adorned with small mirrors, rattles, ribbons, and cowbells, as a parody of Spanish medieval knights. A mask with large horns covers the devil’s face, as he carries a round whip or  vejiga –made from a cow’s dried and cured inflated bladder–and goes along the parade route surprising distracted onlookers with a lash on their buttocks.

Roba La Gallina ,  or  “the hen robber,” is a man dressed up in an extravagant, layered dress, with large-sized breasts and exaggerated posterior, and carrying an oversized purse. She parades in the streets with an open parasol, stopping at the “ colmados ” or bodegas begging for his chicks–the town’s young people–who follow along behind him in the parade.

Los Lechones  are the city of Santiago’s main carnival character, and are also a form of limping devil. They distinguish themselves with their masks–representing the face of a pig, with a long snout and tall horns–and their elaborate costumes featuring a colorful, beaded romper encrusted with bells and bows. Their role is to maintain order in the streets during festivities, which they attempt by swinging their fouet in the air.

Los Taimáscaros  are Puerto Plata’s main carnival characters. They are a version of the  diablo cojuelo , mixing three cultural influences in their outfits: a mask to represent the Taino gods, blouses and coats representing Spanish heritage, and handkerchiefs that symbolize African deities.

Guloyas  are from San Pedro de Macorís, and their striking beaded costumes and tall feathery hats are impossible to miss. They represent Afro-descendants from neighboring English-speaking Caribbean islands who migrated to the DR in the early 20th century to work in the sugar industry. Their unique African-influenced music and dance was proclaimed a UNESCO Masterpiece of Intangible and Oral Heritage of Humanity in 2005.

Los Pintaos – from Barahona–parade in intricately painted bodies in various colors, from head to toe, with just a piece of cloth covering their nakedness. They represent the Maroons–escaped slaves who took refuge in the southwestern mountains of Bahoruco in the 16th century.

Los Tiznaos ,  also known as  Los Africanos  or the Africans ,  are characters whose faces and bodies are painted black with coal and burned car oil. They portray enslaved Africans, and dance along the streets.

Los Alí Babá  is a group with Oriental themes, known for performing choreographed dancing and drumming.

Interesting facts for your tours’ safety & total pleasure;

Pro Excursions sets the standards in Bayahibe in the matter of safety and reliability so that you can enjoy to the fullest your tour with us in the Dominican Republic. This is what you don’t know and that you should know so you can appreciate all the extra measures we took during your stop in La Romana…

  • There are taxis waiting at relay points. If there is a mechanical problem it usually will take no more than 5 minutes to change taxi to continue and  the drivers are always in communication. So your road trip is secured.
  • The Catamaran is inspected every morning and are is perfect working condition before starting the tour. But with mechanic, anything can happen, gas, engine, propeller etc. For this reason on that specific tour when we start the excursion, there is always a fully fueled Back-up speedboat waiting in case of emergency. The furthest point by speedboat from Bayahibe to the Beach of Saona is 30 minutes. 10 gallons more of gasoline is added in the boat, just in case.
  • The tour is scheduled to bring you back at Bayahibe 1.5 hours before ship departure. This leaves plenty of time to bring you back to port. So if any delays occur during the tour we have plenty of loose time, all events have been calculated.
  • There are life jackets for every guest
  • There is a complete first aid kit with people who know how to use it.
  • All guides are life guards and first aid attendants. (Dive masters or higher level)
  • A tour will be cancelled in case of bad weather forecast. No fun going out on a boat on a rainy day & no un-necessary risks to be taken.
  • If a tour is cancelled for other reasons you will be notified at least before your Cruise vacation starts.

This tour is offered to you to enjoy a beautiful day at one of the most beautiful beach of the Island of Saona in the DR. We are in the Dominican Republic and here you are not in the U.S. with American standards. The Locals speak Spanish not English. You need to be willing to live the adventure & fun of discovering a new country & culture while believing you are in good hands with us! Get ready for a great day in La Romana!!

Best Time to Visit the Dominican Republic

Deciding on the best time to visit the Dominican Republic depends on your preferences and what kind of experience you seek.

Peak Season (December-April): This is the peak tourism season because many people head to the Caribbean during the winter months to escape the typical cold weather experienced in the United States, Europe, and many other countries.

During peak season, you can expect weather ranging from highs in the low 80s and lows in the  mid-70s, making it an excellent time to relax on the Dominican Republic beaches, hit the links at one of the phenomenal golf courses in the area, or enjoy the warm Atlantic ocean water. However, you can also expect higher prices for flights and accommodations due to the popularity of the Dominican Republic during the peak season.

Shoulder Season (May-June and September-November): These months are a great time to visit the Dominican Republic due to fewer crowds compared to the high season and less humidity and heat during the season. You can typically expect highs in the mid-80s and lows in the low 70s, making it a great time to visit for those looking for warm weather, enjoy the Caribbean beaches, and experience warm waters outdoors.

Off Season (July-August): July and August are considered the low season in the Dominican Republic. Many people avoid traveling to the Caribbean during these months due to the high heat and humidity. Highs in the upper 80s and lows in the mid-70s with significant humidity. Due to July and August being the off-season, you can typically expect more accommodation and flight deals!

There is never a wrong time to visit the Dominican Republic. However, May-June and September-November are optimal for those looking to escape to the island with warm weather and fewer crowds.
