cruise boarding pass tui

Marella Cruises has revealed details of its new hub designed to make customers cruise experience even easier.

According to the TUI-owned brand, Cruise Control is the perfect cruise planner with everything all in one place, to get customers from their coach to “sipping a cocktail onboard simpler than ever before.”

Chris Hackney, Managing Director of Marella Cruises, said: “We’re pleased to be rolling out our online hub Cruise Control for our customers. We’re committed to making the customer experience as enjoyable as possible whilst being personalised for each guest, and our new hub makes it even easier. Customers have the ability to complete pre-travel requirements quickly allowing them to spend more time onboard, sailing to incredible destinations.”

Guests will be encouraged to use the hub to provide API, complete their online check in and their pre-travel medical screening.

Cruisers will also be able to print their cruise boarding pass and luggage labels, register a card to their onboard account, provide medical details for their cruise and book onboard extras such as excursions and tables in the stunning a la carte restaurants.

Operating in a slightly different way, Cruise Control is the hub for customers to simplify the pre-travel element of their cruise and book ahead, whereas the onboard app Navigate is designed purely for onboard purposes such as finding out entertainment schedules and complete the new video-based emergency passenger safety drill – MyMuster.

Hi LC as no one has replied I can tell you how the system worked in pre covid times, you received your labels at airport check in and your boarding passes at ship check in. It all works well.

Enjoy your cruise.

Thanks

Miller Cruiser

LC, Luggage labels are normally available to print two weeks before you board if you have pre booked your cabin. Ships paper boarding pass is normally available a couple of days before you depart, again if you have pre booked your cabin. When you have completed safety drill, you receive your onboard passes.

This may not apply if you have not pre booked your cabin.

Our luggage labels are ready to print 2 weeks before as said by Miller Cruiser. We have not prebooked our cabin. Hope you get it all sorted,as it is stressful when you cannot contact them. Have a great time!

Oh really?? I might try and ring them again 🙈 . Thanks you too!

Got through on phone, apparently there is a technical issue with the app so have told me to get to the airport really early and go to help desk. Thanks for your help.

Glad to hear you got it sorted. You can relax now 😃 Have fun!

I hadn't booked cabin but just checked and our tags are ready to download for our 8th October cruise.  I did see a couple of days ago our cabin had been allocated

Hi Dinglebert,

I could see it on the booking and then on the luggage label as you say.

tickets - check in and boarding passes if booked through TUI store - plus b2b cruise questions

By BABBY , June 23, 2022 in Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson)

Cool Cruiser

We have booked through a tui store and think we used to collect our tickets etc 14 days before -  but has this changed to 48 hrs before now?

We're also assuming that store will print off boarding passes/labels etc for us being as booked in store as no access to a printer.

We've also had a look and can't see that we have to fill in any PLF etc for the countries below, and that if this is required Tui help us on board?

Croatia then Italy, Turkey, Greece, Slovenia, Montenegro

We are just checking we are doing all that is required to go 🙂

obviously then got the test to do which i am assuming is still required at the present time?

We're on a 14 night one, so has anyone returned from a 14 night cruise where they have had to test half way through?

Many thanks for all your help and advice

We have done that cruise 3 weeks back.  No PLF now and they have stopped the half way through tests. And pre-departure tests still to be done.

Hopefully you'll get the tickets through soon Jim & can look forward to your cruise.

Thanks for the info, trust you enjoyed your cruise RR

Oh thanks Babby and the same to you

cruise boarding pass tui

I am going before you so if you don't get any further replies I will update here and let you know how we get on when I'm back.

' class=

I phoned P&O this morning and they explained how it works. Our outbound flight is with TUI, and P&O said we can't check in online, we just have to check in at the airport and will get our boarding cards then.

As it happens, we are on an Easyjet flight coming home and can only check in online for that one 7 days before, by which time we will be on the ship. P&O told us to go to the helpdesk on the ship and they will check us in for the Easyjet flight home, as we need a booking reference number for the flight and that hasn't been issued yet. Presumably they will print our boarding cards as well. Or I think the P&O helpdesk on board can give us the reference number and we can go online ourselves and download the Easyjet boarding cards to our phones, whenever we can get internet access.

' class=

Can’t say I’m happy with the drip feeding of information from P&O.

cruise boarding pass tui

Both Outward and Return flights (East Midlands Airport -Tenerife) were with Jet2.

We could only access P&O’s Boarding Passes and Luggage Labels prior to our holiday. We were unable to access our Boarding Passes via the Jet2 website because we didn’t have a Jet2 account/password. Therefore, we were unable to take our Jet2 Boarding Passes to the airport. I was able to discover the seats Jet2 had allocated to us for both legs of the flights a couple of weeks ahead of our holiday.

On presenting at Jet2 check-in desk, the Jet2 rep asked for our Boarding Pass. I gave her a print out of Jet2’s confirmation of seating arrangements. She asked for our P&O Boarding Passes and was able to print our Boarding Passes for us, thankfully,

The passengers on our flight comprised of P&O Cruise customers and those taking holidays on Tenerife.

Three days before our flight home, we received a letter (posted to our cabin) in which we were informed that Jet2 were waiting for us to check in for our Return flight . This was an impossibility given that we were unable to access either our P&O Account by this time, nor the Jet2 Check-in link on its website. The letter advised us to contact Azura’s Reception Desk if we were experiencing any problems.

On visiting the Reception Desk, the crew member used our Booking Reference details I had printed, asked for names and DOBs and was able to print off our Jet2 Boarding Passes for us.

This bizarre practice is unhelpful and could be disconcerting for some passengers. Why doesn’t P&O arrange links between their passengers and Air Carriers is beyond me.

We have another P&O cruise booked in a few weeks time. Next flights are with TUI from Birmingham and I am expecting a repeat of the same.

My advice is to copy (print/screenshot) ALL documentation ahead of flights / cruise in case you need to produce them.

Introduction

Welcome aboard! If you’re planning to embark on a cruise ship adventure, you may have come across the term “boarding pass.” Similar to an airline boarding pass, a cruise ship boarding pass is a crucial document that allows you to board the ship and provides essential information for your journey.

In this article, we’ll explore what a boarding pass for a cruise ship is, its purpose, the information it includes, the boarding process, requirements, different types of boarding passes, and the benefits they offer. So, grab a virtual seat and let’s dive in!

Embarking on a cruise is an exciting experience filled with anticipation and wonder. As you prepare for your trip, it’s essential to have a clear understanding of the boarding pass and its significance in ensuring a smooth and enjoyable journey.

Whether you’re a first-time cruiser or a seasoned traveler, understanding the boarding process and the role a boarding pass plays is crucial. So, let’s set sail on this informative voyage to discover all you need to know about cruise ship boarding passes!

What is a Boarding Pass?

A boarding pass for a cruise ship is a document that serves as your ticket to board the ship and gain access to all the amenities and activities available during your cruise. It is a vital piece of documentation that ensures a smooth embarkation process and allows the cruise staff to identify and assist you throughout your journey.

Think of a cruise ship boarding pass as your passport to paradise, granting you entry into a world of relaxation, entertainment, exquisite dining, and breathtaking destinations. It is issued by the cruise line and contains essential information about your reservation and itinerary.

Unlike an airline boarding pass, which is usually obtained online or at a ticket counter, cruise ship boarding passes are typically sent to passengers via email or postal mail before their departure. Depending on the cruise line and your booking method, you may need to print out the boarding pass or display it digitally on your smartphone or tablet when you check-in at the port.

The boarding pass is a personalized document that is unique to each passenger. It contains specific details such as your name, cabin number, ship name, embarkation port, disembarkation port, sailing date, and often includes a barcode or QR code for easy scanning.

Without a valid and up-to-date boarding pass, you may encounter difficulties during the boarding process, and your access to the ship and its amenities could be restricted. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that you have your boarding pass ready and easily accessible when arriving at the cruise terminal.

Purpose of a Boarding Pass

The primary purpose of a boarding pass for a cruise ship is to provide a seamless and efficient boarding process for passengers. It serves as a means of identification, verification, and validation of your reservation and helps the cruise staff efficiently manage the embarkation process.

One of the key purposes of a boarding pass is to ensure that the right passenger boards the correct ship and occupies the designated cabin. The personalized information on the boarding pass, such as your name and cabin number, helps facilitate a smooth check-in process and ensures that you are directed to the appropriate areas of the ship.

Additionally, the boarding pass acts as a security measure, helping to maintain a safe environment aboard the cruise ship. The barcode or QR code on the pass is scanned during the check-in process, allowing the cruise line to verify your identity and ensure that only authorized individuals are granted access to the ship.

Furthermore, the boarding pass contains important information about your cruise itinerary. It includes details about the embarkation port, disembarkation port, and sailing date, helping both you and the ship’s crew stay organized and on schedule.

Another purpose of the boarding pass is to serve as proof of payment and reservation. It contains essential information that confirms your booking, such as the cabin category, number of guests, and any additional amenities or packages you may have purchased. This helps prevent any confusion or misunderstandings during the embarkation process.

The boarding pass also acts as a handy reference document throughout your cruise. You can easily refer to it to find your cabin number, dining reservation times, and other important details. This ensures that you make the most of your onboard experience and stay informed about the various activities and events offered.

In summary, the purpose of a boarding pass for a cruise ship is to streamline the boarding process, verify passenger identities, ensure safety and security, confirm reservations, and provide essential information for a smooth cruise experience.

Information Included on a Boarding Pass

A boarding pass for a cruise ship contains vital information that is essential for a smooth embarkation process and ensures that you have a seamless cruise experience. While the specific details may vary depending on the cruise line and itinerary, here are some common pieces of information you can expect to find on a boarding pass:

  • Passenger Information: Your boarding pass will include your full name, as well as the names of any additional guests listed on your reservation. This helps the cruise staff accurately identify and assist you throughout your journey.
  • Cabin Number: The boarding pass will indicate the cabin number where you will be staying during your cruise. This information ensures that you are directed to the correct area of the ship and facilitates a smooth check-in process.
  • Ship Name and Identification: The name of the cruise ship you will be sailing on will be prominently displayed on the boarding pass. Additionally, you may find the ship’s identification code or number, which helps distinguish it from other vessels in the cruise line’s fleet.
  • Embarkation and Disembarkation Ports: The boarding pass will indicate the port where your cruise journey begins (embarkation port) and the port where it concludes (disembarkation port). This information is crucial for planning your travel logistics and ensuring a smooth transition between ship and shore.
  • Sailing Date and Itinerary: The specific date and time of your cruise departure will be clearly stated on the boarding pass. Additionally, if your cruise includes multiple ports of call, the itinerary will outline the destinations you will be visiting and the dates of each visit.
  • Barcode or QR Code: To expedite the check-in process, many boarding passes feature a barcode or QR code that can be scanned at the cruise terminal. This allows for quick verification of your reservation and helps ensure a seamless embarkation process.
  • Important Notices and Instructions: The boarding pass may include any important notices or instructions that the cruise line wants to communicate to passengers. This could include alerts about governmental regulations, safety protocols, or any changes to the itinerary.

It’s important to review the information on your boarding pass carefully and ensure that all details are accurate. Any discrepancies or errors should be brought to the attention of the cruise line before your departure to avoid any issues during the embarkation process.

With all the necessary information readily available on your boarding pass, you can embark on your cruise adventure with confidence and anticipation, knowing that you have everything you need for a memorable experience on the high seas.

The Boarding Process

The boarding process for a cruise ship is a carefully orchestrated procedure designed to ensure the smooth and efficient embarkation of passengers. It involves several steps and procedures that passengers must follow before stepping foot onto the ship. Let’s take a closer look at the typical boarding process:

Step 1: Arriving at the Cruise Terminal: On the day of embarkation, passengers make their way to the designated cruise terminal. Depending on the size of the ship and the port facilities, there may be multiple check-in areas or terminals. It’s important to arrive at the assigned check-in time provided by the cruise line to avoid long waits or delays.

Step 2: Check-In Process: Upon arrival at the cruise terminal, passengers will proceed to the check-in area. Here, they will present their boarding pass along with a valid passport or other identification documents. The cruise line’s representatives will verify the information, complete necessary paperwork, and issue key cards or wristbands that serve as access passes throughout the cruise.

Step 3: Security and Baggage Screening: After completing the check-in process, passengers will proceed through security screening, similar to airport procedures. All carry-on bags and personal belongings will be scanned, and passengers may be required to pass through metal detectors. This is done to ensure the safety and security of all passengers and to prevent any prohibited items from being brought onboard.

Step 4: Boarding the Ship: Once through security, passengers will proceed to the designated boarding area. The boarding process is typically organized by groups or zones, which are indicated on the boarding pass. Passengers will be called to board the ship in an orderly manner, usually starting with priority guests and guests with specific needs. Passengers will present their key cards or wristbands for scanning, and they will officially step onto the cruise ship.

Step 5: Ship Orientation: Upon boarding the ship, passengers may be greeted by the ship’s crew, who will provide directions to their cabins and offer assistance, if needed. It’s a good idea to take a moment to familiarize yourself with the ship’s layout and amenities during this time. Ship orientation sessions may also be provided to help passengers navigate the various facilities and activities on board.

Step 6: Settling into the Cabin: Once onboard, passengers can proceed to their assigned cabins to drop off their belongings and settle in. Cabin stewards are usually available to assist with any requests or concerns. It’s a good practice to review the information provided in the cabin, such as dining times and safety procedures, to make the most of the cruise experience.

The boarding process may vary slightly between cruise lines and depending on the specific itinerary, but the overall goal is to ensure a smooth and organized transition for passengers from the terminal to the ship. By following the instructions provided and having all necessary documents ready, passengers can make their way onboard and begin their cruise adventure with ease.

Boarding Pass Requirements

When embarking on a cruise ship, it’s important to ensure that you have the necessary documentation and meet the requirements for obtaining a boarding pass. While the specific requirements may vary depending on the cruise line and itinerary, here are some common boarding pass requirements:

  • Valid Identification: Most cruise lines require passengers to present a valid passport as the primary form of identification. Some cruises that sail within certain regions may accept other government-issued identification, such as a driver’s license or birth certificate. It’s crucial to check the requirements with the cruise line before your departure.
  • Visa and Immigration Documents: Depending on your nationality and the countries your cruise will visit, you may need to obtain visas or fill out immigration forms. It’s essential to research and obtain the necessary travel documents well in advance to avoid any complications during the boarding process.
  • Completed Online Check-in: Many cruise lines require passengers to complete online check-in before their departure. This involves providing necessary personal information, travel details, and emergency contact information. Online check-in helps expedite the boarding process and ensures that your boarding pass is ready for printing or digital display.
  • Printed or Digital Boarding Pass: Depending on the cruise line’s policies, you may need to present a printed boarding pass or display it digitally on your smartphone or tablet. It’s important to check the specific instructions provided by the cruise line to ensure that you have the proper format for presenting your boarding pass.
  • Proof of Medical Insurance: While not always required, some cruise lines may require passengers to provide proof of medical insurance coverage. This is especially true for cruises to remote destinations or those that involve high-risk activities such as adventure excursions. It’s recommended to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers any unforeseen medical emergencies.
  • COVID-19 Testing and Vaccination: In response to the ongoing pandemic, many cruise lines have implemented additional requirements, such as COVID-19 testing or proof of vaccination. These measures are put in place to ensure the health and safety of all passengers and crew. It’s crucial to stay updated on the specific requirements set by the cruise line and adhere to any testing or vaccination protocols.

It’s important to note that boarding pass requirements may change, and it’s essential to stay informed about any updates or changes communicated by the cruise line. By ensuring that you have all the necessary documentation and meet the requirements, you can board the ship smoothly and embark on your much-anticipated cruise vacation.

Cruise ship boarding passes come in various types, each serving a specific purpose or offering certain benefits. The specific types of boarding passes available may vary depending on the cruise line and the nature of the cruise. Let’s explore some common types of boarding passes:

  • Standard Boarding Pass: The standard boarding pass is the most common type issued to cruise ship passengers. It includes basic information such as the passenger’s name, cabin number, ship name, sailing date, and embarkation and disembarkation ports. This type of boarding pass grants access to the ship’s facilities, amenities, and activities.
  • VIP or Priority Boarding Pass: Some cruise lines offer VIP or priority boarding passes to certain guests who book higher-tier cabins or have loyalty program status. These boarding passes provide added benefits such as expedited check-in, priority boarding, and access to exclusive lounges or amenities. VIP or priority boarding passes enhance the overall boarding experience, allowing passengers to embark on the ship with minimal wait times.
  • Group Boarding Pass: Group boarding passes are issued to passengers traveling as part of a large group booking, such as family reunions, corporate outings, or special interest gatherings. These boarding passes often include additional information specific to the group, such as group identification numbers or special group activities and events.
  • Multi-day Boarding Pass: For longer cruises that span several days or have multiple legs, multi-day boarding passes may be issued. These passes provide detailed information about the different segments of the cruise, including embarkation dates, ports of call, and disembarkation dates. They help passengers track their itinerary and ensure they are in the right place at the right time throughout their voyage.
  • Special Event Boarding Pass: Some cruise lines offer themed or special event cruises, such as holiday cruises, music-themed cruises, or culinary cruises. Passengers on these voyages may receive a special event boarding pass that incorporates the theme or event branding. These boarding passes add an extra level of excitement and commemoration to the overall cruise experience.
  • Day Pass: In some cases, cruise lines offer day passes to individuals who wish to experience a brief visit to the cruise ship without booking an entire cruise. These day passes provide limited access to certain amenities, such as the pool, restaurants, or entertainment venues, during a specified time period. Day passes allow non-cruisers to get a taste of the cruise experience and enjoy some of the ship’s amenities without committing to a full voyage.

It’s important to note that the availability of specific types of boarding passes may vary depending on the cruise line, ship, and itinerary. Some boarding passes, such as VIP or group passes, may be available by invitation or special arrangement. It’s always recommended to check with the cruise line or your travel agent for the specific types of boarding passes available for your chosen cruise.

Regardless of the type of boarding pass you receive, each offers a unique experience and ensures that you have access to the amenities, activities, and services available on the cruise ship.

Benefits of a Boarding Pass

A boarding pass for a cruise ship not only grants you access to board the ship but also offers several benefits that enhance your overall cruise experience. Let’s explore some of the key benefits of having a boarding pass:

  • Smooth Boarding Process: Having a boarding pass streamlines the boarding process, allowing you to proceed through check-in and security quickly. This means less time spent waiting in line and more time to embark on your cruise adventure.
  • Personalized Information: Your boarding pass contains personalized information such as your name, cabin number, and sailing date. This makes it easier for the ship’s crew to assist you throughout your journey and ensures that you are directed to the correct areas of the ship.
  • Access to Ship’s Amenities: With a boarding pass, you gain access to all the amenities and facilities onboard the cruise ship. You can indulge in delicious dining options, relax by the pool, enjoy live entertainment, partake in exciting activities, and take advantage of the various services and features provided.
  • Ease of Identification: The unique information on your boarding pass, such as a barcode or QR code, serves as a means of identification. It allows the cruise staff to verify your reservation quickly, ensuring that only authorized individuals gain access to the ship. This adds an extra layer of security and ensures a safe environment for all passengers.
  • Stay Informed about Itinerary: The boarding pass includes information about your cruise itinerary, including embarkation and disembarkation ports, sailing dates, and any ports of call. This keeps you informed about the sequence of destinations and helps you plan your activities and shore excursions accordingly.
  • Special Privileges: Depending on the type of boarding pass or your loyalty status with the cruise line, you may be entitled to special privileges and benefits. These can include priority boarding, access to exclusive lounges or amenities, faster disembarkation during port stops, and personalized services from the ship’s crew.
  • Convenience and Organization: Carrying a boarding pass ensures that all your important cruise information is readily available in one document. You can easily refer to it for details about your cabin assignment, dining reservations, embarkation times, and other pertinent information. This adds convenience and helps you stay organized during your cruise.

Having a boarding pass not only guarantees a seamless boarding process but also grants you access to the incredible array of amenities and services available on the cruise ship. It provides peace of mind, personalized assistance, and a sense of exclusivity, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the remarkable experience of a cruise vacation.

Common Questions about Boarding Passes

As you prepare for your cruise vacation, you may have some questions about boarding passes. Here are answers to some common questions to help clarify any confusion:

1. How do I obtain my boarding pass?

Most cruise lines will send your boarding pass to you either via email or postal mail before your departure. You may need to print it out or display it digitally on your smartphone or tablet when you check-in at the port.

2. Can I board the ship without a boarding pass?

No, a boarding pass is essential for entry onto the cruise ship. It acts as your ticket and provides vital information for the boarding process. Without a valid and up-to-date boarding pass, you may encounter difficulties during the embarkation process.

3. Can I change my cabin assignment after receiving my boarding pass?

Cabin assignments are typically finalized well in advance and may be difficult to change once the boarding pass has been issued. However, in certain circumstances, such as availability or special requests, it may be possible to make changes. Contact the cruise line or your travel agent to inquire about the specific policies and procedures for cabin changes.

4. What happens if I lose my boarding pass?

If you lose your boarding pass, it is important to contact the cruise line or your travel agent as soon as possible. They will provide guidance on how to obtain a replacement or make alternate arrangements for boarding.

5. Can I board the ship early with a boarding pass?

Depending on the cruise line’s policies, certain guests may have the option of early boarding. This is often offered to guests with VIP status, suite guests, or loyalty program members. Check with the cruise line or your travel agent to see if early boarding is available and if any specific requirements need to be met.

6. Can I use a digital boarding pass on my smartphone?

Many cruise lines now allow passengers to use digital boarding passes displayed on their smartphones or tablets. However, it’s essential to check with the specific cruise line to ensure they accept digital passes and that you have a reliable method to access and display the pass at the port.

7. Can I make changes to my itinerary after receiving my boarding pass?

Once the boarding pass has been issued, changes to the itinerary may have restrictions or fees associated with them. It’s best to contact the cruise line or your travel agent as soon as possible if you need to make changes to your cruise dates or destinations.

8. Can I use someone else’s boarding pass?

No, boarding passes are personalized and only valid for the named individual(s) on the reservation. Attempting to use someone else’s boarding pass is against cruise line policies and can lead to denial of boarding.

9. Do I need to keep my boarding pass during the entire cruise?

Once you have checked-in and boarded the ship, you may not need to carry your physical boarding pass while onboard. However, it’s a good idea to keep a digital or printed copy with you in case you need to reference it for any reason during the cruise.

10. What should I do with my boarding pass after disembarking?

After your cruise, it’s advisable to keep a copy of your boarding pass along with other travel documents for future reference or in case of any post-cruise inquiries or issues.

By understanding the ins and outs of boarding passes, you can navigate the embarkation process with ease and enjoy a worry-free start to your memorable cruise vacation.

I am going before you so if you don't get any further replies I will update here and let you know how we get on when I'm back.

Can’t say I’m happy with the drip feeding of information from P&O.
