Filip is an amazing tour guide. He has an insane wealth of knowledge that he loves to share about every corner you turn. He knew how to get us in and out of many crowds, and congested areas. Very professional, humorous, and friendly demeanour made this tour extraaa special. When in the Balkan’s, you should consider this tour and ask for Filip to be your tour guide. Balkan Discovery (4 Star Hotels)
The tour was fantastic! The Balkans are beautiful, the people are warm and welcoming, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of travel companions. Cheers to Boyan, our tour director, and Nico, our driver. They’re lovely people and TravelTalk is fortunate to have them!

Amazing!!! Best thing I’ve ever done
Balkan Experience – seven countries in two weeks - SMALL GROUP
I have just completed the 7 countries in 14 days tour with Victor Tours. There was a great mix of being shown the important tourist spots and giving you some free time to explore for yourself. The tour guide Theodor was a breath of fresh air. He was inciteful, helpful and knowledgeable during the tour. He answered all questions honestly, especially around some sensitive subjects. We had breakfast at all the hotels that was substantial. The accommodation, because we moved around ranged from tremendous to very good. Not one hotel was lacking. It has given me an improved understanding and knowledge of the area, their problems both past and present. The tour gives you a great start on all the 7 countries and if you want to explore them more you then have a starting point. My favorite countries were Serbia, Bosnia and Macedonia, which I will be exploring further. Alexander and his team, from Victor Tours was tremendous in his assistance both before the tour and during it. There were no 'hick ups' at all. I would recommend Victor Tours and this particular tour to anyone who want to travel to these countries. Thanks again Alexander and Theodor for the great memories.
Balkan Dreams end Bulgaria
We chose this tour as it had the most comprehensive coverage of the Balkans and were not disappointed. Incredible planning on the part of Europamundo given the modular nature of their tours. Logistically it was challenging due to the distances we had to travel everyday, but there were plenty of rest stops and the border crossings were managed well. We were only 4 English speakers on a full bus of Spanish speakers and were initially apprehensive, having read some of the reviews from English speakers who were on a majority Spanish speaking bus. It could easily have been a disaster but kudos to Europamundo for assigning to our small group one of their most capable English and Spanish speaking guides, Viktor Toshev. He went the extra mile every day to ensure that we were not treated as an afterthought (as some other reviewers have commented). He was organised, his commentary clear and thorough but succinct, and his energy and enthusiasm was infectious, making the sites come alive. Due to the level of care we were given, it often felt like we were on a private customised tour and not a big bus package tour. A good guide makes all the difference! Thanks Europamundo!
Dubrovnik to Athens: Beachfronts & Fortresses
This trip was absolutely amazing! And it was all due to our amazing guide - he was, hands down, the most knowledgeable and charismatic tour guide a person could have dreamed up! He not only made it possible for our diverse group to get to know one another, he introduced us to experiences, places and persons that a local would only know. He was meticulously organized down to a "T", arranged for upgrades at his own expense, and left the group with little to no worries about where/what would be done next. If I could book tours with this guide solely - I would. In fact, for my next adventure I do plan on booking with G Adventures and requesting his tour.
Western Balkans Uncovered
I did not know what to expect and was pleased to find it all very interesting and different from our North American standards. The kindness of the people toward tourists was wonderful to experience especially given the difficult history all of the countries visited had gone through. Food and drink were very good.
Balkan Adventure (14 Days)
An excellent trip with an outstanding tour director (Sarah Rossi) and highly skilled bus driver (Bruno). Plenty of option excursion choices along with very good included tours with knowledgeable local guides. The only down side were two of the hotels - Hotel Marinela, Sofia Bulgaria, and Mercure Belgrade Excelsior - that were in desperate need of refurbishment not to mention functioning air conditioning and bathroom cleaning. Otherwise, great trip.
- €100 deposit on some dates Some departure dates offer you the chance to book this tour with a lower deposit.
Balkan Kaleidoscope
Full of history and beautiful scenery.
Treasures of the Balkans (Classic, 16 Days)
Athens to Dubrovnik thru Montenegro A Mythic Journey through History & Beauty
Seamless planning, breathtaking landscapes, and a delightful small group experience. The team at Ajdinis made every moment memorable, and their attention to detail was impeccable. Highly recommend for an unforgettable travel adventure!
What people love about Balkans Tours
This was an amazing trip! Vojin was our tour guide; he was just excellent. Anything you wanted, pharmacy, postcards, restaurant recommendations, even taking pictures, which for me is a must, he was wonderful. I have been traveling for many years, and Vojin was the first tour guide who counted every passenger before we left the city on the bus. I can tell when a tour guide cares about his job and the traveling team, and Vojin goes beyond his comfort to take care of his travel team from Bulgaria to Macedonia. I would also like to mention the bus driver Slavče, was amazing; I am still in shock at how he managed to turn on streets with very little angle, and driving through the mountains of Montenegro and Macedonia was amazing. In most of the Balkans, everything is written in the Latin Alphabet, so it was easier to walk through the cities or restaurants and walk separately. On the trip to Greece, I was with Kostas. He did a great job, taking us to the best locations in Greece. Even a city in Greece where only Greek tourists go, no foreign tourists, was great. There was an excellent view and food. Great picture locations. Unlike the Balkans, in Greece, with the exception of Athens, everything is written in the Greek alphabet, so you need to stay together as a team so you won't get lost. I would recommend the Balkans and Greece for a tour. Besides the great and beautiful views, the wine is excellent in every country!
Fast paced, and enjoyable. Ten countries in sixteen days, organized to the point it was a pleasure to experience. Our guide Rogan kept us informed and gave great background information of things we were about to experience. I will relive this adventure many times in my head.
Excellent! Very well organised, extremely interesting and informative. The most famous ancient sites in Greece mixed with lots of cultural activities and a variety of geographical areas. Our tour director, Nikos Kontogiannis, was superb. Nikos has a great sense of humour, is extremely knowledgable and an excellent organiser. We were very impressed!

WHY TRAVEL WITH FUNKY TOURS
10 Reasons to Travel Balkans with Funky Tours
We perfectly know that the idea of traveling to the Balkans triggers tons of questions. What is there to see, is it safe, how to get there, and many more?
In the past 15+ years, we have been answering these questions theoretically and practically, and today we know exactly what travelers need and how to deliver it.
1. Breaking prejudice
Funky Tours simply exists with purpose to break the prejudice about the Sarajevo, Bosnia and rest of Balkans.
Our “1st prejudice breaker via travels” philosophy ensures our guests to get amazing, fair, unbiased and “off the search engine” experiences.
2. Real life experiences
We know that travel experiences that only focus on places without proper attention at local people’s real life experiences are not complete.
That is why our trips are are perfectly balanced and aside of visiting amazing places, always offer insight into how locals experience life.
3. Responsibility
We take every guest equally and for every and each one we provide fully customized travel experience. Our top priority business culture is to be responsible – always think in advance and adjust ourselves to our guests needs.
We never take travelers for granted and never look them as “numbers”. If we make unintentional mistakes, we make sure they are responsibly resolved.
It is just that we don’t make mistakes. Yeah.
4. Stunning value for money
Most of the Western Balkan countries (except Croatia and Slovenia) compared to rest of Europe are in the mid-low range income.
It simply means when you travel around here, you don’t have to think about “money” too much.
You can simply relax as in most cases value you receive for your money is amazing. Same is for travel companies. Funky Tours experiences are worth every penny invested.
5. Our leaders, tour guides and drivers are "outta" this world
At Funky Tours we know that local touch is what makes travel experience “bad” or “outta this world”. Our guides are the best on the market, and knowledge they posses is unrivaled.
Either if you have tons of questions, or if you are looking for hidden off the beaten path attractions, galleries, cafes, or else, rest assured, with smile, our guys cover it all.
6. Unbiased stories
In the Balkans, due to complicated history, everyone have their own understanding of the events from the past.
Being born and raised here, and having survived the 1990ies wars, we can’t allow ourselves to be biased and one sided.
Regardless of who we and you are, our stories are first-hand experiences backed with judicial facts, aiming to help travelers explore Balkans better, and in the same time empower peace and reconciliation.
7. Small group travel
Ever-since Funky Tours philosophy were small groups, maximized experiences. It continues to be so today.
We believe that small group adventure travels enable travelers to easily engage with locals, hassle-freely reach places off the beaten path and in the same time preserve a feeling of traveling independently.
8. Responsible as a business
Sustainable tourism is one of the guiding stars at Funky Tours. Our tours are crafted to give back to the local community.
Either if we are supporting local family businesses in remote parts of Bosnia and Balkans, organize youngsters charity excursions , promote shared tours to kill CO2 emissions and empower climate change awareness, promote gender equality by being woman-led organization, we strive to be as much as possible responsible company, and still are able to create stunning travel experiences for our guests.
9. High safety standard
We pride ourselves that one of the most important aspects of our business is safety for us, our guests and all stakeholders in travel industry we deal with.
For example: When we organize long day tours or multi-day package tours even for small group size of 2 to 6 travelers, we always arrange driver and a guide. Why do we seriously kill company earnings like that? Simply because there is no compromise in sense of tour quality and safeness.
Balkans are yet to catch up in road development and lower their traffic accidents in compare to rest of the Europe.
That is why Funky Tours makes sure driver watches the road and guide watches our guests, while working as a team.
10. Always exceed expectations
Being blessed to work in an amazing region of Balkans, and being blessed with amazing natural and cultural diversity, we already have great head start.
Later just by adding special “Funky travel sauce” we are creating experiences that always exceed our guests expectations.
Simply by reading tons of Funky Tours reviews online, travelers satisfaction speaks a lot about us.

Where Do We Go in the Balkans?
Our Balkans tours generally focus on the Western Balkans, including countries of ex Yugoslavia with a particular focus on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Those three countries are so closely connected but, on the other hand, so different, and work best when combined.

What our travelers say about our Balkans tours
Why go on a guided tour of the balkans.
The history Formerly one country known as Yugoslavia, the Balkans dissolved into 11 independent nations in the 1990s. Today, you'll find unique history, culture, and food to experience in every land.
The wine The Balkans are the fifth-largest producer of wine in the world, and this region is well known for bold, interesting reds. Be sure to visit the Zivanovic Wine Cellar in the wine region of Sremski Karlovci in Timisoara, Romania—their honey and wine are indescribably delicious.
The views Lakes, seas, landscapes, and incredible architecture put a tour of the Balkans on the top of many photographers’ to-do lists. Have you ever heard of Lake Ohrid? It’s on the border of Macedonia and Albania, and it has some of the most incredible views in Europe.
Travel tips for Balkan trips
The Balkans make up the easternmost peninsula in Europe and include the countries of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia, Romania, and parts of Greece and Turkey.
Some of the most iconic landmarks you can visit on tours of the Balkans include:
- The People’s Palace in Romania
- Nis Skull Tower in Serbia
- “Dracula’s Castle” in Transylvania
- Mostar’s Old Bridge in Bosnia and Herzegovina
- The Blue Mosque in Istanbul
- Dubrovnik’s fortified walls in Croatia
While peak travel time for the Balkans tends to be in the summer, we believe the best time for Balkans tours is the shoulder seasons—April to June and September to November. During these times, the weather tends to be milder, and you’ll find fewer crowds. Check out 5 reasons to travel in the off-season .
When you choose one of our Balkans tour packages, you’ll go with knowledgeable guides, free time to explore, and all the benefits of traditional group travel, too. Learn more about the Go Ahead Tours difference .

- Kwaku A 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing Experience I really enjoyed this tour, one of the best I’ve done. Budva and Kotor are beautiful towns and the scenic drive to Montenegro displayed the beauty of the country. We had a private tour, our Tour guide was Fabio, he is the absolute best. It is a long day, 12 hour round trip, but Fabio made the experience amazing. He was flexible, so the tour felt customised. He was very informative, but was also light hearted as well so we ended up talking throughout the drive. Great thing about Fabio is that if you want to talk he is available to chat, if you want to sleep he will leave you to sleep. I would highly recommend having him as your tour guide for any of the tours provided. I must also add that the car we used was brand new electric car, was clean and tidy and perfect for the journey. - B3198OInatashap 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best way to see the north of Albanian! Amazing 3 day, 2 night hiking trip run by Daniel this past May. Daniel was an amazing guide and has extensive knowledge about Albania, the Balkans and hiking. On the drive to Theth he made sure we had everything we need and answered all of our questions. The two hikes on the trip were so beautiful and worth the hike to get there (even in the rain!). The home stay we stayed at in Theth was cozy, friendly and a perfect place to share stories over a traditional Albanian dinner. Only thing I’d note is that there are some discrepancies on the distances and timing (day 1 pickup) from the review and the PDF provided upon booking. Other than that - could not recommend this trip more and request for Daniel if you can! Read more Written May 6, 2024

There were consistent, helpful updates leading up to our departure which left us reassured that everything would be ready to go the day of the tour. The tour guide Ilir arrived on time and found us without issue, allowing us to promptly begin our tour. He was incredibly knowledgeable and provided a wonderful discussion of the sites we saw as well as the history of the countries. He provided ample amount of time for us to enjoy the various locations we stopped at and truly made us feel like we had the opportunity to take part in various activities throughout the day without feeling rushed. The car was clean and comfortable and we were dropped off and picked up exactly from our hotel with no hassle involved. We cannot recommend this tour enough, especially for those with limited time in Tirana! Read more Written May 5, 2024

- madstig 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles An absolutely exceptional day! An absolutely exceptional day! (I do not use that term lightly). I was picked up from my AirBnB in Tirana at 8.50am. I had the privilege of being toured by Genti. We spent 2 hours talking about the history and politics of Albania on the drive (in a very comfortable electric car) to Berat. We did a beautiful walking circuit of the town, took some brilliant photos, and then enjoyed a nice cold diet coke each. We then drove up to Berat castle with its stunning views and incredible Byzantine church. One of Genti's friends is the caretaker of the church and he very kindly gave me some more insight into the history of the building which is really quite special, the original frescos are extraordinary. We then walked through the old castle town and concluded with a coffee and small glass of Raki (for me only) overlooking the landscape. We then drove to Belsh Lake, again supplemented by Genti very kindly giving me some more insights into life in Albania, including his memories of the fall of communism in 1991, which I found fascinating. We then hopped on it back to Tirana so I could visit a couple more attractions on my final day. Genuinely, an incredible refreshing day, I probably haven't done it justice with the review. Before my trip, I went through and meticulously researched all the tours from Tirana on Tripadvisor. Let me save you that research time, because you've just found the best day trip from Tirana! (Yes, I didn't go on any others, but let's not get caught up with technicalities). Read more Written April 29, 2024

- thegeode 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles I had high expectations. They were exceeded by a huge measure! Highly recommend Choose Balkans... My adult son and I wanted to see surrounding countryside outside Tiranë and decided to try this tour. It was fantastic! Far better than described and worth both th time and cost. Our driver and tour guide was Juli, a native Albanian from Elbasan, just outside Tiranë. He was knowledgeable, a great driver (we were his only passengers), and knew the answers to all of our questions. At each destination, we walked and he pointed out interesting sites and described their history. He was amazing, and I highly recommend this tour! As amazing were Sirma, Suzy and Bato. Sirma and Suzy work for Choose Balkans, and while I expected a typical tour operator, they acted more like an exclusive concierge. They were with us every step of the way – not in person but through phone and message app – to make sure everything was perfect. From pickup to drop-off, these women made the tour experience phenomenal, exceeding all expectations. Then there was Bato. Choose Balkans selected him as our private driver when we wanted to travel to Sarandë, a 4-5 hour drive south. We planned to stay a few days then wanted a driver to take us back to Tiranë. Of course, Choose Balkans delivered beyond our expectations! Bato, while not speaking English, found ways to communicate none the less, and when we paused at a rest stop along the way, we used our phones' translation apps to share stories of our families and get to know one another. In the end, while I expected another driver to pick us up to return to Tiranë, Bato wanted to do the trip and we were delighted to have him as our return driver (this meant he had to travel first to Sarandë, then back to Tiranë - a very long day!). To summarize, we are deeply grateful to Sirma, Suzy, Juli and Bato for sharing their hospitality, their beautiful country and their care to make sure we had the best possible experience. I am looking forward to my next trip to Albania and my next tour with Choose Balkans! Read more Written April 20, 2024

Could not recommend BN Adventure highly enough! Me and my partner completed the 10 day hiking tour through the peaks of the Balkans and it exceeded our expectations. With guides Gezim and Artan we were well looked after, with them going above and beyond to cater to the group. The hikes were challenging yet extremely beautiful, with amazing scenery surrounding you on every walk. Highly recommend if you are interested in hiking, getting to know good people and challenging yourself! LINK

My son and I just completed the “10 Days self-guided Peaks of the Balkans tour” (which includes 9 days walking) from Balkan Natural Adventure (BNA). Some of the walks were on the “official” Peaks of the Balkans Trail, some were not, and all were excellent. Our two favourites were climbing Gjeravica, the highest Peak in Kosovo, from Doberdol and the walk to Taljanka from Grbaja Valley (neither of which are “official”).
The GPX tracks BNA provided for our self-guiding were good. BNA were a delight to deal with throughout; always responsive, friendly and helpful. I would be very pleased to visit the Balkans with BNA again and am happy to recommend them. LINK

We went on a full 14 days tour of the POB. A group of 5 friends with our fabulous leader Alb. The tour was amazing and sights, sceneries, mountains, lakes, rocks were astonishing and stunning. Despite the tough climbing and knees breaking descending paths it was awesome. BNA took care of everything we needed and solved any problems or difficulties rising up through the trek. We could focus on the trip and have great fun due to excellent logistical care. Virtyt ,Anila and all stuff were extraordinary helpful and kind. We highly recommend planning your trip with BNA.

I cannot express how excellent and professional this company is; they really care about their customers’ experience, they listen, and adapt to the customer’s needs immediately.
They responded to all my questions across 50 + emails and they were happy to address all my concerns.
They supplied me with an impressive amount of information on the region and hike which was extremely useful.
This claim was tested during my hike with my son, I wanted to make a special bonding experience and go on an adventure as a team of father and son. It is my son’s first long hike. They arranged for everything, and everything was perfect.
They even responded to my wife’s calls when she got a bit worried since she didn’t know that we didn’t have cell coverage during the hike!
I needed to change my itinerary between the hiking days, and they responded beautifully.
This is the reason why I am considering returning to the region and exploring it further as I know I can rely on Balkan Natural Adventure. Go ahead and book them, you will not regret it.

LINK
