Humbly amazing!
I have seen Ben Sollee perform live twice now. And his music is a large % of my playlist because it's pure talent mixed with well thought out lyrics. Not only will the put on a great show, but they will talk to you afterward and they are all amazingly talented, yet very humble.
Ben Sollee and and Mother Falcon
The Howard theater is a nice venue. The staff is nice, the food is ok and the setting is intimate. I've followed Ben Sollee for a long time and try to see him every couple years. He is an amazingly powerful performer. However his performance was a collaboration with mother falcon. Mother falcon reminds me of a bad high school band. Almost every single instrument is played simultaneously. The band has a ridiculous amount of members 19?28? They are the epitome of "everyone gets a trophy". Their performance was horrible. Overwhelming and headache producing. Worse of all when Ben performed with them he was drowned out and overpowered by all of their unnecessary instruments. Ben should take care not to water down his power as an artist by collaborating with mediocre performers. The one or two songs Ben did solo were amazing. Mother Falcon is a joke.
Great Entertainer!
Ben Sollee is not nearly as famous as he should be. He's a wonderful entertainer. Very engaging and funny. He's as talented a musician as you're likely to see in nearly any setting. He uses the cello in unique and beautiful ways.
No one rocks the cello like Ben! Go see for yourself
Every time I think Ben can't out do his last performance, he proves me wrong! The opening performers were great, the shadow puppetry was a fantastic addition, and the music just gets better and better. He has a great group of musicians to complement his performance style and really showcase his unique sound.
Ben Sollee ROCKS!
Ben plays the cello like he's rocking out on an electric guitar. His hands move so fast and his energy is incredible! He is in the zone! Jordan Ellis on drums is a perfect match for Ben. He never misses a beat. The fiddle/violin player that played with them gave me goosebumps. The girl on bass looked like she was in 7th heaven and sounded like it too! Great group of musicians. LOVE the shadow puppets. So ingenious and went very well with the music. Only problem is the Opera House seating was very uncomfortable for me and I wanted to get up and dance to Ben's up tempo songs and couldn't!
Ben sollee was amazing

The entire family enjoyed Ben's show. He is so very talented, engaging, and fun. The opening act, Anna and Elizabeth, was great, too.
Some wonderful, wonderful talent that could be enjoyed by just about anyone who appreciates music! Venue was good setting too, overall the show was a lot of fun/super laid back!

Ben Sollee consistently performs and creates music that causes the listener to reflect and think. On his upcoming release, Ben Sollee and Kentucky Native , his curious spirit leads to further exploration about the beginnings of bluegrass and the connection to the sounds of early Irish and Scottish musicians and worldly rhythms from across the globe. As Sollee traces the origins of roots music back to the immigrants who helped shape it, he reminds us of how the immigrants of today continue to shape our music and culture.
Sollee continues to combine his environmental activism with music, demonstrating how art can help tackle challenging issues and create meaningful change. His documentary short “Ditch The Van,” which chronicles his decision to embark on a tour by bicycle, received the New Normal Award at this year’s Telluride Mountainfilm Festival. The award was created to recognize the project that best represented the festival’s climate change-related theme.
