Allegiant Airlines Carry-On Rules: Everything You Need to Know

Allegiant Carry-On Rules: How to Avoid Extra Fees!

If you want to avoid extra fees on Allegiant, you need to read this

Allegiant Carry-On Bag Size

Does allegiant have a weight limit for carry-on bags, recommended carry-on bag, allegiant personal item size & examples, allegiant carry-on liquids policy, allegiant food policy, restricted items on allegiant:, conclusion: allegiant carry-on rules.

Low-cost airlines, like Allegiant Air, may have lower base fares, but if you aren’t careful, you’ll end up paying more because of all their additional fees.   These include fees for checked and carry-on bags (as well as seat assignments, beverages, printing your boarding pass, etc..).

Spirit and Frontier are the worst offenders, but Allegiant can be challenging as well if you aren’t careful.

In this article, we’ll explain everything you need to know about Allegiant’s carry-on rules. This includes Allegiant’s carry-on and personal items size restrictions, liquid policy, and other rules and restrictions you should know before boarding your flight.

Allegiant Carry-On Policy

Allegiant allows one personal item onboard at no charge, but they charge for both carry-on and checked bags.  The personal item must fit under the seat in front of you, and the carry-on bag must fit and be stowed in the overhead bin or it will have to be checked.

Allegiant Carry-On Size

The maximum size for an Allegiant carry-on bag is 10 x 16 x 22 inches (25 x 40 x 55cm)

Baggage fees apply to carry-on and checked bags and vary depending on the route and when the bag is added to your itinerary. Additional charges for sporting equipment and/or overweight and/or oversize and excess baggage may apply.

The following are the fees you will pay for your carry-on and checked bag, each way, depending on your destination.

If you want to know the exact cost for bags on your specific flight go to the Allegiant Baggage Fees Calculator and enter your travel route and date.

Allegiant does not have a weight limit for carry-on bags. Checked bags cannot be over 50 lbs., but they do not specify a weight limit for carry-on bags and personal items.

If you are looking for a great carry-on bag when flying Allegiant, I recommend the Travelpro Maxlite 5 Expandable Spinner. I have used this carry-on for years. It’s durable, reasonably priced, and holds everything I need for shorter trips.

As stated before, you will still have to pay a fee to carry this bag on an Allegiant flight, but it will cost a little less than a checked back and you won’t have to wait at the baggage carousel.

Travelpro Maxlite 5 21" Carry-On Expandable Spinner

This carry-on bag has been sizer bin tested to accommodate overhead bin space on most major US airlines.

Case Dimensions:

  • H: 21 in. W: 14 in. D: 9 in.

Note: If fully expanded it may not meet overhead bin size limits, so be careful to not overpack.

Allegiant allows every passenger to bring one personal item onboard with them at no additional charge. Your personal items must be stored completely underneath the seat in front of you.

Examples of Allegiant personal items can include a purse, briefcase, laptop computer, iPad, camera case, or a similar-sized item.  Personal item dimensions must not exceed 8 in. x 14 in. x 18 in. (20cm x 35cm x 45cm) .

Medical and assistive devices (including walkers, canes, and strollers), a diaper bag, a coat, a small umbrella, and food to be consumed on the plane do not count as personal items and can be brought on board at no additional fee.

Allegiant has bag sizers at the gate and they will double check to make sure your personal fits within their guidelines before you board your flight. If your personal item is too large, you will be charged a fee!

Allegiant Personal item sizer

The rules for carry-on liquids are set by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration), not by the airline.  Allegiant will enforce the rules and policies of the TSA.

Each passenger may include in their carry-on bag One quart-sized bag of liquids, gels, and aerosols that are in travel-size containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 ml). Common travel items that must comply with the 3-1-1 liquids rule include toothpaste, shampoo, perfume, deodorant, and lotion.

Any liquid that does not meet the TSA 3-1-1 rule will either have to be checked with your luggage or will be thrown away at the security checkpoint.

Exceptions to this rule are certain medications and baby food/child nourishment .

The TSA also sets the rules for what type of food you can bring on the plane.

When bringing food with you from home, an important thing to note is the classification of liquid vs. solid foods.   The general rule is “If you can spill it, spread it, spray it, pump it, or pour it, then it’s considered a liquid or gel,”.   This means your food may be considered a liquid.

Here’s a link to the TSA website advising what food can be brought with you on your Allegiant flight.

Prohibited and Restricted Items

Certain items are considered dangerous and classified as hazardous materials.  Dangerous goods are prohibited from both your carry-on and checked bag on all Allegiant flights.  These rules are not specific to Allegiant and are mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration.

By Federal Law, certain items are considered hazardous and are prohibited from all Allegiant flights.  Violation of Federal Law could result  in up to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 (49 U.S.C. 4124).

Items considered “dangerous goods” are prohibited under Allegiant’s carry-on policy and include the following:

  • Firearms and ammunition
  • Self-defense sprays, such as mace and  pepper spray
  • Explosives, including fireworks and flares
  • Flammable liquids, including gasoline, lighter fluid, and kerosene
  • Poisonous, infectious, or radioactive substances
  • Knives and sharp objects (pocket knives, cutting instruments,  razors , ice picks, carpet knives, metal scissors, box cutters, or similar items)
  • Hoverboards, including electric skateboards, balance boards, gravity boards, and self-balancing devices
  • Medical or liquid oxygen
  • Torch lighters , lighter fluid, strike-anywhere matches, and fire starters
  • Wet-cell batteries
  • For additional items check out Allegiant’s Restricted Articles List

It is important to note that this is not an exhaustive list and that the TSA’s rules and regulations are subject to change. When in doubt, leave it out.

Additional prohibited or restricted goods and materials can be found in the following resources:

  • IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations
  • TSA Permitted and Prohibited Items
  • FAA Packsafe List

In conclusion, Allegiant has a very straightforward carry-on policy that’s easy to understand and follow. You can bring one personal item (for free) and one carry-on bag (for a fee), with additional fees for larger bags or additional items.

It’s important to check the specific dimensions and weight restrictions before heading to the airport to avoid any unexpected charges or issues at the airport.

Allegiant Carry-On Rules (Dimensions & Weight Restrictions)

Learn the essential Allegiant Air carry-on rules: dimensions, weight limits, and fees to avoid surprises. Perfect for budget travelers flying Allegiant.

allegiant air travel rules

Budget travelers will find Allegiant Air a great option for air travel. This ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) has some of the lowest prices in the industry! If you have an upcoming flight with this airline or looking to understand their travel guidelines more, you are in the right spot! Allegiant Air has relatively standard baggage restrictions that will be familiar to regular flyers.

Allegiant Air carry-on bags must not exceed the dimensions of 22" x 14" x 9" or 45 linear inches. The carry-on bag and personal items are free of charge. Your carry-on must weigh less than 50 pounds. You are allowed one personal item, such as a purse or backpack, and one carry-on item per person.

Budget airlines tend to have more restrictive rules when it comes to baggage in order to keep the plane light! You will face steep fees if your carry-on bag is too big or too heavy. It is best to fully understand the set measurements of Allegiant before you leave for your flight to avoid complications! For a smooth travel experience, follow along to get a clear understanding of Allegiant carry-on baggage rules in preparation for your travels.

What Are Allegiant Air's Baggage Restrictions?

allegiant air travel rules

When you fly with Allegiant you get to bring a carry-on and a personal item free of charge!  As long as these items are within the airlines' size limitations, you can bring these two items on without issue. If you need assistance devices or child-care items, those you can bring on without them counting towards your carry-on allowance.

Exceeding the sizing limitations for Allegiant means you will be charged a fee or denied if they are too large.  To make sure you do not run into this problem ,  measure your luggage before going to the airport.

Your checked bags should not exceed 62” linear inches (157.48 linear centimeters) in their dimensions. Otherwise, they will be considered oversized. These bags should also not exceed 40 pounds (22.68 kg), or they will be overweight.

To quickly summarize Allegiant's baggage restrictions, you are allowed a free personal item and the option to pay for a carry-on bag with each ticket. Your carry-on must not be larger than 22″ x 14″ x 9″.  Otherwise, you will have to pay between $18 and $50 to check it under the plane.

Checked bags must not be larger than 80 linear inches or 40 pounds, otherwise, you will face steep oversized fees. And if your checked bag is over 80 linear inches or 100 pounds, it will not be accepted at all.

What Are The Size Limitations For Allegiant Air?

Sizing standards for Allegiant are very standard for the industry and can apply to pretty much every airline. You will see the phrase 'linear inches/centimeters' a lot when reviewing sizing limitations so different kinds of bags can be used for travel.

Linear inches or centimeters are found by adding up the length, width, and height of your bag. As long as the sum of these numbers doesn't pass the linear limit, it is allowed!

Personal items are less regulated on airlines as the primary rule is they should be able to fit underneath the seat in front of you. If you are worried about your personal item being too big, measure it!

A personal item on Allegiant should generally not exceed the measurements of 17″ x 13″ x 8″ or 38 linear inches.  Typically a standard backpack, purse, briefcase, or laptop bag can fit in these dimensions without a problem.

Your carry-on should not exceed the measurements of 22″ x 14″ x 9″ or 45 linear inches altogether.  There will be measurement bins around the airport to make sure your bag can fit, but it is best to measure beforehand to avoid any issues.

Carry-on size limitations are quite strict on Allegiant Air. An oversized carry-on can take space away from other passengers and cause problems for the flight.

What Are The Weight Limitations For Allegiant Air?

There is no official carry-on weight limit for Allegiant Air! However, the general rule of thumb is to keep the weight under 40 pounds. This is because you will need to live your carry-on over your body to place in the overhead bins.

It is best to keep the packing light so there is no struggle during boarding. You will not run into any scales before going onto your flight. But if you pack the typical clothes and toiletries you are unlikely to get near this weight.

What Is Not Allowed In a Carry-On For Allegiant Air?

allegiant air travel rules

Allegiant Air follows the TSA restrictions for carry-on liquids, gels, and aerosols. These substances are only allowed in containers with a maximum size of 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). All containers also must fit into a single, sealable clear quart-size plastic bag. Anything over these restrictions is not allowed in their carry-on.

Drugs such as tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, or e-cigarettes are not allowed in your carry-on. Other more obvious items such as firearms and explosives will not make it through TSA and onto an Allegiant Air flight.

Some lesser-known items you can not bring are pepper spray, hoverboards, lithium batteries, bleach, or any form of lighters. Since these items are not allowed in your carry-on, they are also not allowed in your personal item.

It is always best to make sure your liquids are in TSA-approved bottle sizes and there are no hazards in your luggage. Items such as a corkscrew or a screwdriver can be flagged, so be thorough!

If you happen to pack one of these banned items, you will likely get flagged at TSA and they will confiscate the items. Allegiant Air baggage restrictions align with those of TSA.

So even though the airline itself does not take these items from you, TSA will do so on their behalf. Accidents do happen, so if you forget one of the minorly banned items in your bag you will likely not be punished.

How Strict Is Allegiant Air About Carry-Ons?

Much like other budget airlines, Allegiant is relatively strict about its carry-on rules. When it comes to items allowed in carry-ons, those restrictions come from TSA and not the airline.

Those rules are for safety and can not be exempted. However, in terms of size and carry-on allowance, Allegiant has full control over this division. And the purpose of keeping these rules strict is because it keeps the tickets cheap!

If you are caught with an oversized carry-on or more than one, you will have to pay roughly double that you would normally. Following the sizing restrictions and carry-on allowance will make sure that you are not forced to pay more money, and that your flight is smooth and stress-free! T he restrictions can be frustrating when discovered too late so it's best to be prepared!

How Many Carry-Ons Can I Bring On Allegiant Air?

allegiant air travel rules

Regardless of your ticket, you will only be allowed to bring on a single carry-on item with you onto the Allegiant Air plane. Too many carry-ons stuffed into the overhead bins on the plane could cause them to suddenly open during the flight and fall onto the heads of other passengers. So never plan to bring more than one carry-on item per passenger.

Beyond the carry-on item and personal item, you will not be allowed to bring anything else onto the plane. If you have special items like strollers or wheelchairs, those may need to be checked. There are some items you are allowed to bring on that will not count towards your carry-on allowance.

Regardless of its special status, you can often check these items at the gate rather than at the ticket counter so you can use them at the airport. Be sure to communicate at the ticket counter or review the Allegiant website to understand these special cases better.

You are always allowed to bring a personal item on the plane. This includes items such as backpacks, purses, pillows, laptop bags, jackets, and other small items. The personal item must be small enough to fit underneath the seat in front of you. Meaning it can not be another small suitcase.

To summarize, you are only allowed a single carry-on and a personal item on Allegiant Air unless you have a special item that qualified otherwise.

Can I Bring a Purse and a Backpack On To Allegiant Air?

Generally speaking, you can absolutely bring a purse or backpack onto an Allegiant flight! These items tend to usually qualify as your personal item. Which makes it easy to keep at your feet during the flight. So long as the bag is not too large that it will not fit under the seat or bigger than 38 linear inches, you can certainly bring these bags along with you.

A traditional school backpack or simple purse fits perfectly in this space. You will run into problems if your backpack or purse is too large to fit under the seat in front of you. If you are looking to bring an extremely large backpack, such as one made for long hiking trips, that should be checked.

If you are looking to bring a traditional purse or backpack with you onto an Allegiant Air flight, you will have no need to worry. Even larger than average backpacks and purses as be brought as personal items. But if it gets too large you could use the bag as your carry-on item or check it under the plane.

Does Allegiant Air Charge For a Carry-On?

allegiant air travel rules

Allegiant Air is a budget airline and therefore does charge for carry-ons. The prices for carry-on range from $10 to $50 depending on the length and route of your flight. There is no set carry-on price, but the length of your trip should give you a hint about its range. Carry-ons with Allegiant must not be oversized and stay below 45 linear inches.

However, if you are caught with an oversized carry-on it will be checked at the same price as a larger bag. If you find yourself needing to check your Allegiant carry-on last minute, the bag will be around $50 when checked at the ticket counter. This is why it is best to carefully measure your bag to avoid the extra fees!

What Are Allegiant Air Checked Baggage Policies?

For checked bags, you want to make sure the luggage does not exceed 80 linear inches (157.48 linear centimeters).  You will likely face steep oversized fees if your bag is larger than this.

It is best to be safe and measure your luggage before you leave. These limitations are very strict with Allegiant Air. It is better to be safe than sorry and take the time to measure your luggage!

With checked bags, you can not exceed 40 pounds (22.68 kg) in weight to only pay the basic fare. Even if your luggage is 41 pounds, you will have to pay an extra fee of $50 to check the bag. If your bag is over 100 pounds, it will not be checked onto the plane at all. So if you are worried about the weight, simply measure the bag with a scale at home.

If your checked bag is too big in dimensions you will have to pay a $50 - $75 fee.  The oversized dimensions are those over the linear measure meets of 80 inches or 203 centimeters.

Overweight bags are those between 41 and 99 pounds. If the bag weighs more than 100 pounds it will not be excepted onto the plane. Additionally, if your bag is overweight and oversized, you will need to pay both the overweight fee and the oversized fee

What to Know Before Flying Allegiant Air

Don't book your ticket without understanding the basics first.

Since 1971, Travel + Leisure editors have followed one mission: to inform, inspire, and guide travelers to have deeper, more meaningful experiences. T+L's editors have traveled to countries all over the world, having flown, sailed, road tripped, and taken the train countless miles. They've visited small towns and big cities, hidden gems and popular destinations, beaches and mountains, and everything in between. With a breadth of knowledge about destinations around the globe, air travel, cruises, hotels, food and drinks, outdoor adventure, and more, they are able to take their real-world experience and provide readers with tried-and-tested trip ideas, in-depth intel, and inspiration at every point of a journey.

Ever consider flying with Allegiant Air? The airline currently flies within the U.S. and is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada. Allegiant often adds new routes at impressively low fares (think: $39 tickets ). The drawback, however, is that you have to pay for every extra imaginable, from water on the plane to a full-size carry-on bag. If you're wondering whether or not to hop on an Allegiant Air flight, know what you're getting yourself into.

We've tracked down all the latest info on Allegiant Air and browsed Allegiant Air reviews to find out what passengers had to say about the airline. Here's everything you need to know before you fly.

Fare Classes

Ticketing with Allegiant Air is straightforward. If you buy a ticket without purchasing any extras, you do not get an assigned seat — instead, the airline will randomly assign a seat to you. The other option is to purchase a specific seat before you fly. This will cost more, but you get to choose where in the aircraft you'd like to sit, which is useful if you are traveling with a friend, partner, or family members. Finally, you can purchase seats with extra legroom on select airplanes. This is called Allegiance Extra, and the seat provides an additional six inches of legroom.

Allegiant offers a bundle system to help make purchasing flight extras easier, but you will also have the option to not select a bundle and fly sparsely with only one personal item and an unassigned seat. There are three classes of Allegiant bundles: Basic, Bonus, and Total.

  • Allegiant Basic: Seat selection, one personal item, and a carry-on bag
  • Allegiant Bonus: Seat selection, priority boarding, one personal item, and a checked bag
  • Allegiant Total: Seat selection, priority boarding, one personal item, a carry-on bag, a checked bag, and priority boarding

All bundle classes include Trip Flex, which allows you to change or cancel your flights without having to pay extra fees.

Flight Change and Cancellation Policies

If you don't have Trip Flex and you need to change or cancel your flight on Allegiant, the fee is $25 . That fee applies to each leg of your itinerary (i.e., if you're flying round-trip, direct to a destination, you'll be charged the fee twice). The $25 fee will be charged each time you change or cancel your flight, and you'll be responsible for paying the difference in fare. Any change or cancellation must be made at least seven days before your scheduled departure.

Note that Allegiant's relatively low change fee of $25 was first instated as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic when the airline reduced the fee from $75. It was not intended to be a permanent reduction, so the price could go back up in the future. You can also purchase Trip Flex for your ticket, which allows you to change or cancel your flight with no fees up to an hour before your departure time. However, if you purchase a bundle, Trip Flex will be included automatically.

Baggage Policies and Fees

Every passenger, in booking their standard ticket, is allowed to carry on one personal item, free of charge. Allegiant recommends a purse, briefcase, or small backpack. It must be able to fit under the seat in front of you and be no larger than 8 x 14 x 18 inches. It's unlikely that you'd be able to bring a suitcase or a weekend bag as your free personal item. However, every passenger can pay for one carry-on bag that can be stowed in the overhead bins. The dimensions for this bag are slightly larger than your personal item (10 x 16 x 22 inches). You can also purchase checked bags — up to four per passenger. These bags can be no more than 50 pounds and 80 linear inches.

Fees for each of these options vary — if you pay when booking your ticket, the fee will be less than if you're paying for them at the airport. Your carry-on bag can cost from $10 to $75. Fees for your carry-on and checked bags vary in a similar realm. Often you're looking at $20 to $35 if purchased at the time of booking, $45 if purchased just before departure, and $50 if you're paying for the bags at the airport.

Finally, there are additional fees if your checked bag is larger than 80 linear inches and over 50 pounds. Depending on the size and weight, you'll add $50 or $75 to the checked bag fee for an overweight or oversized bag. If you have to check your bag at the gate, you may have to pay a fee of up to $75, but this does not apply to car seats, strollers, mobility aids, or other assistance devices.

Boarding Order

Allegiant Air has four pre-boarding zones, followed by six general boarding zones. Here's how pre-boarding looks:

  • Pre-boarding: Passengers that require additional time or assistance
  • Priority boarding: Passengers who have purchased Priority Access in advance or have an Allegiant World Mastercard
  • Military boarding: Boarding reserved for active military personnel
  • Family boarding: Specifically for passengers traveling with young children and accessories like car seats and strollers

After these zones have concluded, Allegiant will move into general boarding with six zones. The first zone is the exit row. The next five zones are each associated with the planes numbered rows.

Seats and Legroom

The standard seats on Allegiant offer less than 30 inches of seat pitch, minimizing legroom for passengers. However, their larger seats deliver an additional six inches of legroom and 34 inches between seats. To grab the extra legroom seats, you'll select an Allegiant Extra seat when booking your ticket. Scott of Sanspotter says the width of the Allegiant Air seats is about 17 inches. He says that "legroom is increased to 34 inches in a 'Legroom +' row towards the front of the aircraft," and concludes, "the bottom line is, if you want a more comfortable seat, fly Delta, American, or United instead."

Amenities and Entertainment

Food and beverage service.

Food and beverages are available for purchase on Allegiant Air flights. Waters and sodas are $3. Beers and hard seltzers are between $4 and $9. You can get La Colombe and Dunkin Donuts iced coffees for $5. In addition to individual snacks and drinks, available a la carte, you can buy snack packs starting at $11 to have a mixed assortment.

Customer Service

Among Allegiant Air reviews, customer service quality is up for debate. While their planes are well-staffed, some reviewers point out that trying to work with staff on the phone or online before a flight (on a change, cancellation, or special request) can be challenging. "I have been trying to contact customer service for weeks now to obtain information about a return flight. It has been impossible," says Martin B. on TripAdvisor . "Allegiant's online chat and phone number are always busy. They have failed to answer multiple emails. I finally decided to book the return flight with another airline. I doubt that I will use Allegiant again in the future."

Wi-Fi is not currently available on Allegiant Air flights.

In-flight Programming

There is no in-flight entertainment on Allegiant. You will not find magazines or in-flight movies, TV, or music onboard.

Allegiant Air Credit Cards

Allegiant Air has one credit card offering, in partnership with Bank of America. It's called the Allegiant World Mastercard . With the card, holders earn points that can be used toward Allegiant Air flights, as well as priority boarding and one complimentary beverage per flight. The annual fee is $59 and upon sign-up, cardholders get 15,000 points (which is equivalent to $150 redeemed with Allegiant).

Allegiant Air Covid Rules

What measures has allegiant air taken to ensure a safe flight.

Allegiant Air has taken important measures, both on the ground and in the air, to protect the health and safety of passengers and crew . Working closely with the CDC, WHO, and other experts and based on their direction, Allegiant Air’s actions not only follow but exceed the recommended standards.

Dedicated to making air travel and your trip as safe as possible,  Allegiant Air continues to enhance services and develop new ways to address current COVID-19-related issues. Allegiant Air’s comprehensive Going the Distance for Health and Safety program is an integrated approach that includes:

  • Cleaning and disinfection procedures.
  • Face covering policy.
  • Low-touch service.
  • Travel flexibility.

Cleaning and Disinfection Procedures

Allegiant Air’s aircraft are cleaned and disinfected utilizing state-of-the-art cleaning and disinfection technologies to the highest possible standard, exceeding CDC and Airbus guidance. The cleaning and disinfection program includes a regular schedule of deep-clean and standard cleaning procedures for every aircraft.

Regularly, all aircraft are disinfected using electrostatic sprayers and an advanced antimicrobial protectant that together create a colorless, odorless protective barrier on all surfaces and kills viruses and bacteria on contact for 14 days. Also, all touch surfaces , tray tables, seatbelts, lavatories, etc., are sanitized and thoroughly disinfected during every cleaning .  On all aircraft, disinfectant wipes are available by request.

In the cabin, air flows continuously and is completely changed every three minutes. The cabin air is made up of fresh air and VOC-filtered air . VOC filters exceed HEPA standards, removing additional, even smaller contaminants. When cruising, the air flows down into the cabin from vents near the ceiling and exits through floor-level vents. Air does not flow to the front or back of the plane. The flow keeps the air fresh and sanitary.

Face Covering Policy

Following the latest TSA guidance, wearing a mask is not required on board Allegiant Air flights . However, passengers and crew members may still choose to wear masks if they want to. Also, some airports may still require wearing a mask, so you should be prepared to follow local mask regulations in the airport.

Low-Touch Service

Allegiant Air introduced new service practices to limit personal contact and provide additional distancing whenever possible :

  • Allegiant Air operates only nonstop flights . This means you travel on a single aircraft, avoid crowded hubs, and spend less time in airports, all of which minimizes contact.
  • Inflight service has been reduced to once per flight . To make additional service requests, passengers can use the Call button.
  • All food and beverages served onboard are pre-packaged and factory-sealed for your safety.
  • The inflight menu and magazines have been removed from all seatbacks. Now, the inflight menu is available on the Allegiant mobile app and the magazine online .
  • Passengers are encouraged to check in online and scan their boarding passes . As part of the Online/Mobile Check-in process, you must complete a health acknowledgment certifying that you will wear a face covering at all times while traveling,  no household member has exhibited COVID-19-related symptoms, you will not travel if you have a fever, and you will wash/sanitize your hands before boarding the flight.
  • Onboard, crew members may reseat boarded passengers to provide additional distancing when possible.

Travel Flexibility

Allegiant Air allows you to cancel your reservation within 24 hours of purchase for a full refund as long as your scheduled departure date is at least one week (168 hours) away at the time of booking. After 24 hours, purchases are non-refundable. A credit voucher for future travel within one year from the initial reservation will be issued for qualifying changes or cancellations.

In response to the continued flexibility need due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Allegiant Air charges a temporarily reduced change fee of $25 per person per segment (one takeoff and one landing) for change or cancelation of itineraries booked after May 1, 2021 . Unless you have purchased Trip Flex, no credit will be issued for date changes or cancellations made within 7 days of departure. Trip Flex allows you to make one change or cancel your reservation without fees up to 1 hour before departure.

Thinking about booking a flight with Allegiant Air but confused by the add-on fees? You’re not alone: Ultra-low-cost carriers like Allegiant are built around the “a la carte” model, where the base airfare doesn’t include basics like bags, seat assignments or a pack of crackers.

Allegiant also carries loads of “gotcha” fees for unaware passengers. For example, failing to print your own boarding pass (or use the Allegiant app to get a digital pass) will incur a ludicrous $5 “boarding pass printing fee.” And paying for a checked bag at the airport can cost 100% more than paying during booking. Knowing about these fees can save you a headache and a bunch of money.

It’s also important to keep in mind that most of these fees apply to each leg of a journey, so a round-trip flight on Allegiant can end up costing much more than the advertised price. On the other hand, savvy Allegiant travelers can avoid these dodgy fees and reap lower fares.

The airline offers three fares:

Since these fees vary from flight to flight, we’ll look at a real-world round-trip flight from Austin, Texas, to Las Vegas. The base price of this ticket was $74.

allegiant air travel rules

This represents only a fraction of the total potential cost of the ticket. The “Bundles” section below breaks down whether it’s worth paying for these fees together in Allegiant’s preselected bundles.

The two bundles are Allegiant Bonus and Allegiant Total. The main differences between Allegiant Basic and Allegiant Bonus boil down to luggage allowance and seat selection. The Allegiant Bonus bundle includes a back-of-the-plane seat assignment and a carry-on bag or checked bag (depending on the flight). The Allegiant Basic fare price includes neither.

Now, take a look at the various types of fees you may encounter during your Allegiant process.

Baggage fees

Seat selection fees

Bundles — are they worth it?

All domestic airlines except Southwest charge for bags, but Allegiant has one of the most expensive and confusing baggage fee systems. There are two pieces of this system that are crucial to keep in mind:

Allegiant charges for overhead carry-on bags, without exception. The cost of these larger carry-ons is usually the same as checked bags.

Allegiant charges far more for bags paid at the airport than online. Paying for a checked or carry-on bag at the airport usually costs $50 each, which would total $200 for a round-trip ticket if you had one of each. Avoid these fees at all costs.

» Learn more: Which airlines have the best (and worst) fees?

Checked bags

Allegiant charges for checked bags, and the cost per bag depends on the route flown and when the bag is paid for. Paying for these bags at booking is cheapest, paying “pre-departure” (online but not during booking) is more expensive and paying at the airport is always $50 per bag.

Here is an example one-way fee breakdown for a medium-length route from Austin to Las Vegas:

It’s much more cost-effective to pay during checkout. However, many travelers don’t know this far ahead of time whether they will be checking a bag or not. This creates a dilemma, which is exactly what Allegiant is banking on. When in doubt, either pay for bags ahead of time or plan to travel light.

» Learn more: Airline credit cards that offer free checked bags

Carry-on bags

Passengers are allowed one free personal item that fits underneath the seat. All roller bags and other larger carry-ons carry a fee, and these fees follow a similar structure to checked bags: They vary by route and cost more when paid closer to the day of the flight.

Here is the carry-on bag fee for the same example as above, Austin to Las Vegas:

The only difference between this and the checked bag fees is that paying for an overhead carry-on at booking costs $5 less. Paying for the same bag at the airport still costs a whopping $50 each way.

Circling back to the “$74” round-trip base fare, you can see that bringing a carry-on and checked bag, even when paid in advance, would add $90 ($25 x 2 + $20 x 2).

Base fare: $74.

Baggage fees: $90.

Total cost: $164.

Seat selection

Many airlines now charge for seat selection, which means you either have to pay extra to secure a decent seat or roll the dice and let the airline assign your seat at the last minute. Allegiant makes this process especially confusing by the way it prices individual seats.

During checkout on allegiantair.com, you’ll see a standard seat selection screen like this:

allegiant air travel rules

However, there’s no way to see the cost of a given seat without selecting it. In this case, the “extra legroom” seats in the front of the cabin cost $24 each way, while the regular economy seats cost $10-$19, depending on their location.

The strategy here is simple: Either pony up for a decent window or aisle seat if the benefit outweighs the price, or skip seat selection altogether. There’s no reason to pay $10 for a middle seat.

For the purposes of the overall price analysis, assume selection of a window seat near the front for $19 each way, adding $38 total.

Seat selection: $38

Total cost: $202.

Change and cancellation fees: $75 per segment (each way)

Technically, changes are not allowed on base Allegiant fares, and the airline charges $75 per segment for cancellations, so $150 for a round-trip fare.

Ready for another complication? Allegiant lets you buy “Trip Flex” protection for $75 each way, which effectively renders the fare fully refundable. Yet, since the cancellation fee is the same as this “Trip Flex” fee, the only added benefit is the ability to change the flight for free. In our example, adding $150 in trip protection to a $74 fare doesn’t make sense — it would be cheaper and easier to simply buy another ticket.

Boarding pass printing: $5

As mentioned, Allegiant will charge you to print your boarding pass at the airport. You can either get a mobile boarding pass or print your own at home to avoid this fee.

Food and beverage: $2-$7

If you’re used to flying full-service carriers, you may be surprised to learn that Allegiant does not offer complimentary nonalcoholic drinks or food. Expect to pay a few bucks for snacks.

Phone booking fee: $14.99 per segment

Booking over Allegiant's ticketing phone line will set you back $14.99 for each flight segment (i.e., for each stop). In other words: Don’t book over the phone.

Pet fee: $100 per segment

Allegiant allows pets in soft-sided carriers, and charges $100 per segment.

Since these are all optional or easily avoidable fees, we won’t include them in our overall price total.

Adding one final twist to this confusing maze, Allegiant offers “bundles,” which effectively pay for several of these fees together at a discounted rate. For this Austin to Las Vegas flight, this included a “bonus” and “total” option.

allegiant air travel rules

For comparison, here’s the breakdown:

Seat selection: $38.

Paying a la carte, in this case, adds $128 to the total fare — less than the “total” bundle and more than the “bonus” bundle. But the “bonus” bundle does not include a checked bag (only a carry on) and does include “Trip Flex” protection, which makes little sense for such a cheap fare. The “total” bundle costs only $10 more than our a la carte selections and includes priority boarding and “Trip Flex” protection.

Unfortunately, there’s no hard-and-fast rule about when and whether these bundles make sense. The bundles do reduce the cost of the fees, but they might include some fees you weren't going to pay (such as change/cancellation flexibility). The best way to check whether a given bundle is worth it is to select your seats and compare the overall costs. That said, these bundles do offer another advantage: They are simple.

The bottom line

Allegiant Air charges a lot of fees. In our example, the cost of the base airfare more than doubled once baggage and seat selection were included, and this did not include other tricky fees like higher bag fees at the airport or boarding pass printing fees.

If you don’t mind playing Allegiant’s game and paying for only the add-ons you need, you can save some cash. But it’s easy to get taken for a ride by these convoluted fees.

How to change or cancel an Allegiant Air flight

Allegiant Airbus A320 Bozeman

Booking a flight on discount carriers can save you a lot of money. But, before booking with Allegiant Air , you should understand the Allegiant cancellation policy.

Despite other airlines virtually eliminating change and cancellation fees during the pandemic , Allegiant still has very restrictive policies. Here's some helpful information to help avoid unnecessary fees.

Sign up for our daily newsletter for more TPG news delivered each morning to your inbox.

Allegiant refund policy

allegiant air travel rules

Since all of Allegiant's flights take off or arrive at an airport in the United States, the airline must offer you a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of booking and it's more than seven days before your departure.

But, outside of that, Allegiant policy does not allow for any refunds.

Related: 6 ways to improve your low-cost flight experience

Allegiant cancellation policy

You can still recover some value if you need to cancel an Allegiant flight, though. Based on the Allegiant Air cancellation policy, customers who cancel an Allegiant flight can receive a voucher to use toward a future flight. However, you must cancel more than seven days before departure and pay a fee to obtain a voucher.

Flights are normally subject to a $75 fee per segment (not per passenger) to make changes or cancellations. However, Allegiant has temporarily decreased this fee to $25 per segment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even so, you'll still incur two cancellation fees to cancel a round-trip flight on Allegiant. And the voucher you receive is only valid for travel for up to one year from your original booking date.

Avoid change and cancellation fees with Allegiant's Trip Flex

As noted above, you'll normally need to pay a change fee of up to $75 per person each way to change or cancel an Allegiant flight more than seven days before departure.

But, if you purchase Trip Flex when booking your flight, you can change or cancel your reservation once without any fees (up to one hour before departure).

Trip Flex is available as part of bundles that Allegiant sells along with your ticket, but you can also purchase it as a stand-alone option during the booking process.

allegiant air travel rules

Based on the typical Allegiant fare and the fee per segment to cancel, you'll want to determine whether Trip Flex makes sense for you. If you need to purchase other add-ons such as a personal item or a seat selection, then the additional cost to purchase a package with Trip Flex may be minimal.

Related: Allegiant used to love flying used planes; now it's betting big on new jets

allegiant air travel rules

Trip Flex allows you one free change to your trip. That means you should be able to change both segments of a round-trip flight, but you'd need to change both at the same time. Trip Flex could save you up to $150 on a round-trip flight if the airline returns to the $75 per segment price to change a flight.

One other item to be aware of is that Allegiant notes in its terms and conditions that all bundle purchases are nonrefundable. In addition, changing flights may require you to repurchase portions of your bundle.

Finally, keep in mind that the policies are different if you buy a vacation package itinerary. In particular, you'll typically need to change or cancel at least 72 hours before your scheduled departure, even if you'd purchased Trip Flex. If you change, you'll need to pay any increase in airfare, hotel and auto rental rates.

Related: Allegiant grows in Austin and Nashville with route expansion

Bottom line

The Allegiant refund policy is simple; the airline only offers refunds if you meet the requirements within 24 hours of booking. And the Allegiant cancellation policy isn't much better. The average Allegiant fare is generally under $100. So, a $75 cancellation or change fee per segment would wipe out most, if not all, of the value of your ticket.

If you think you may need to change or cancel an Allegiant flight, purchasing Trip Flex or a bundle when booking may be in your best interest. Before the pandemic, a change fee of less than $100 seemed like a deal. Now, these are some of the highest cancellation fees out there.

Can you pack your meds in a pill case and more questions answered

One of the more popular questions we get from travelers is: “Can I travel with my medication?” The answer is yes, with some qualifiers. Here are a few tips that you might find helpful.

Pills

  • Medication in liquid form is allowed in carry-on bags in excess of 3.4 ounces in reasonable quantities for the flight. It is not necessary to place medically required liquids in a zip-top bag. However, you must tell the officer that you have medically necessary liquids at the start of the screening checkpoint process. Medically required liquids will be subject to additional screening that could include being asked to open the container.
  • You can bring your medication in pill or solid form in unlimited amounts as long as it is screened.
  • You can travel with your medication in both carry-on and checked baggage. It’s highly recommended you place these items in your carry-on in the event that you need immediate access.
  • TSA does not require passengers to have medications in prescription bottles, but states have individual laws regarding the labeling of prescription medication with which passengers need to comply.
  • Medication is usually screened by X-ray; however, if a passenger does not want a medication X-rayed, he or she may ask for a visual inspection instead. This request must be made before any items are sent through the X-ray tunnel.
  • Nitroglycerin tablets and spray (used to treat episodes of angina in people who have coronary artery disease) are permitted and have never been prohibited.

How to Fly Your Kid Solo, Free of Stress

An illustration of children flying solo on the airplane.

By Alexander Nazaryan

For many parents and guardians, putting a child on a flight alone may seem terrifying. Belligerent passengers, delays, turbulence: All loom large in a caregiver’s imagination.

Life sometimes leaves no other option. Hudson Crites , 17, of Marshall, Va., was 10 when he started flying unaccompanied to visit his father in Kansas and later Georgia, said his mother, Chelsea Tippett. But the extra attention from airline staff made Hudson “feel special,” Ms. Tippett recalls. Other than a single tarmac delay, he has had no problems.

On rare occasions, children have had troubling experiences. In December, Spirit Airlines accidentally flew a 6-year-old to Orlando, Fla., instead of the intended destination of Fort Myers. Spirit apologized, fired the gate agent responsible and offered reimbursement to the boy’s grandmother for her travel to Orlando. But while the boy was unharmed, his grandmother expressed worry that he had been kidnapped .

If you decide to fly your child unaccompanied, you’ll discover that each airline has its own procedures, fees and routes open to children. While some may find the process complicated, flying alone may be exciting for your child, instilling some independence. Here’s what you need to know.

Before you book, know the process

Regardless of the airline or route, flying an unaccompanied minor differs from an adult or a family catching a flight. Airlines require a trusted pre-authorized adult to be at the departure and arrival gates, and will ask you at booking to provide contact information for those adults. They will also need to present identification at the terminals.

The journey begins at the originating airport’s airline ticket counter. There, airline staff will check your identification and check in the child, perhaps handing them a lanyard or wristband to wear. The agents will provide you with a pass to get through security with your child. You will accompany them to the gate, where you will hand them off to a gate agent. You must stay at the gate until the plane takes off.

In the air, the flight crew will keep watch — but will not babysit, or sit with, your child. If the flight has a connection, a crew member will walk your child off the plane and a gate agent will take him or her to the next gate.

At the arrival airport, the child will be handed off by staff to the authorized guardian or parent who should have already checked in at the ticket counter with proper identification, gone through security with their gate pass and be waiting at the gate.

To learn more about this process, read the Department of Transportation’s online guide, “When Kids Fly Alone,” followed by the website of your selected carrier.

Choosing an airline and paying an extra fee

Before purchasing a ticket, experts advise you to consider an airline’s on-time performance. “Solid on-time performance is hard-earned, and signals a carrier that has tight control of its operation,” said the Ask the Pilot author, Patrick Smith. The Bureau of Transportation Statistics has those numbers.

Booking procedures vary. Delta Air Lines and American Airlines require you to call. United Airlines allows bookings online. JetBlue Airways does online bookings, too, but asks for three printed copies of its forms upon arrival at the airport.

International flights may call for a notarized consent letter describing where the child is traveling, with whom they’ll stay and how long they’ll be there.

On top of the ticket fare, flying an unaccompanied minor can be pricey.

Southwest Airlines charges $100 one way for each child, regardless of distance. Alaska Airlines charges $50 per child if the flight is nonstop; a connection adds $25. On Delta, one $150 fee will cover up to four children, and American’s $150 covers all siblings, with no cap on number. United charges $150 for one child, or two children flying together.

Restrictions: There are plenty

U.S. carriers allow children to fly as unaccompanied minors once they turn 5 and before they turn 18. But regardless of your child’s age, make sure he or she is ready by discussing the trip details and your expectations of their behavior. No policy can replace your judgment.

The low-cost carriers Frontier Airlines and Allegiant Air don’t allow unaccompanied minors, Other airlines have restrictions that, in the broadest terms, differentiate between young children and teenagers. American and Delta restrict children under 8 from routes requiring connections. Both airlines allow children between 8 and 14 to take some connecting flights.

On American, no unaccompanied minor is allowed to take an overnight flight requiring a connection, or a flight that includes a connection on its final leg that also happens to be the last such flight that day (“unless it’s the only flight,” the company adds). Minors are not allowed on code-share flights.

United and Delta have similar rules. Southwest, JetBlue and Spirit don’t allow unaccompanied minors on connecting flights.

JetBlue prohibits minors from flying to Europe, and limits the number of unaccompanied minors in one party to three. Spirit does not allow children on flights to Central or South America. Southwest doesn’t allow children on any international flights. American, United and Delta let minors fly abroad, but restrictions on connections, code-shares and overnights limit options.

American and Delta allow children to opt out of flying as unaccompanied minors once they turn 15 — that is, the child can fly without the assistance of airline personnel. JetBlue ends unaccompanied minor service at 14, while Alaska has an opt-out option at 13. Southwest boasts the lowest opt-out age: 12.

However, you should be able to accompany your child to the gate even if they’re not flying unaccompanied. American requires that you do so for teens between the ages of 15 and 17, even if they’ve opted out.

What to pack

Have a plan to head off your child’s hunger, boredom and thirst. If they are older, make sure they have emergency money and a charged phone.

When her two daughters, then 9 and 11, flew to Denver, Joey Conover of Charlottesville, Va., had a long list for their carry-ons.

“Pack a backpack with iPad, headphones, lightweight book to read, a pad of paper and colored pencils (markers might smear), a small travel game, water bottle (bring empty and fill in airport), snacks, some kind of surprise fidget or animals to play with, hoodie, and a lovey,” she wrote in an email.

“Write your name and phone number on the inside of their arm in Sharpie and put a parent’s business card in a luggage tag on both suitcase and backpack,” Ms. Conover said. (A sheet of paper with all their identification, and their guardian’s contact information, also works. Simply stick in an easy-to-access pocket.)

What Happens If You Miss Your Connecting Flight?

There's nothing that gets a traveler's heart racing like the impeding doom of missing a connecting flight. We've all been there: wildly sprinting through the airport terminal , hoping against hope that the boarding door hasn’t closed yet. Then, the worst feeling of them all: finding the door closed shut but the plane still there—and you're not allowed on it.

At some point, every flier misses a connection, whether it’s due to airline delays, storms, or planning a layover that was just too tight. While it can certainly throw a wrench in your travel plans, there are certain strategies that will get your itinerary back on track as quickly as possible.

For anyone who finds themselves in this unfortunate, but common, travel ordeal, see below for our complete guide on what to do when you miss an airline connection.

What to do if you miss a connecting flight

First, don’t panic. Missing a connection is a fairly routine occurrence in the air travel system, and airlines are equipped to help you get back on track.

In most cases, US airlines will put you on the next available flight for free. (Even some ultra-low-cost carriers, like Spirit and Allegiant, will rebook you on the next flight for free if the missed connection is due to a flight delay.) Sometimes the rebooking process is totally automated, and you may get a text or airline app notification telling you you’re on a new flight. But that’s not something fliers can bank on. “Airlines will try to rebook travelers automatically, but it doesn't always work,” says Brett Snyder, president of Cranky Concierge , an airline assistance firm. “If there are no obvious flights available, or if the travel involves multiple airlines, it can be much harder for the airlines to auto-rebook people. And even if they do auto-rebook, it may not be an option that's acceptable to the traveler.”

If an airline can’t rebook you automatically—or you don’t like the flight you’ve been placed on—you’ll have to speak to a customer service agent either in person at the airport, on the phone, or online. Head to a customer service kiosk in the terminal or call your airline’s customer service number. “Try everything,” Snyder says. “Get on the phone with reservations, stand in line at a desk to see an agent, send a tweet, try chat. Whatever options the airline gives, the traveler should take advantage and use the first one that comes available.”

It’s a good idea to also be looking at flight options while you wait to speak with an airline representative. This will help move things along faster and ensure that you’re prepared with your ideal scenarios.

If you booked your airline itinerary through a travel specialist , you’ll definitely want to reach out to them for assistance. “If a travel agent has made the booking in their system, they can often just put the travelers on the next connecting flight if they miss it,” Snyder says. “It saves a great deal of hassle. Even if that can't be done in the system, agents can be watching and helping while the traveler is stuck in the air or in an airport. It helps take the pressure off, and it can end up getting the problem solved earlier.”

What if you miss the last connecting flight of the day?

If the next available flight isn’t until the following day, most airlines will provide you with hotel and meal vouchers. This is especially true if the missed connection was a result of airline error (also called a “controllable flight delay.”) Some ultra-low-cost-carriers are more stringent with compensation. Spirit won’t provide a meal voucher if a delay isn’t their fault; Frontier doesn’t ever offer hotel vouchers.

If you’re unsure of your airline’s policy, you can check the contract of carriage agreement, which spells out all of an airline’s rules and policies. (Simply search online for “airline name + contract of carriage,” and scroll to the missed flights section.) The Department of Transportation has a dashboard of what amenities and compensations every major US airline offers to fliers during a controllable flight delay, which is usually the cause of most missed connections. The dashboard also links out to each airline’s corresponding customer service policies.

How to avoid missing a connecting flight

The best way to avoid missing a connecting flight in the first place is to plan a layover with enough time to get through the terminal. But how should travelers calculate this? “There is no fixed answer,” says Snyder. “It depends on the airport and terminal configuration. If someone is flying in the morning via a smaller airport, they might not need more than half an hour. But if it's an inbound international flight landing at JFK that requires changing terminals, then two hours might make sense.”

A good benchmark is no less than an hour layover for connecting domestic flights and no less than a two-hour layover for international flights . However, even those guidelines could be too short for certain large airports or international hubs—like London Heathrow , for instance—that have additional security screenings for connecting passengers whose travels originated outside the UK. Do as much research as possible on the layout of the airport and any regulations you might need to meet during your layover.

During peak travel seasons, you may want to pad those estimates even further. “There are more people traveling and especially during the summer , there is a higher chance of thunderstorms that can disrupt travel more,” Snyder says. “But it really is up to individual preference.”

If you find yourself on board a plane that’s running behind and your next flight is with the same airline, speak with the cabin crew on board. They may be able to help you get off the plane faster by asking non-connecting passengers to stay in their seats, and help find out key information—like the departure gate for your next flight—so you can hit the ground running once the plane lands.

Rating Report

Allegiant Travel Company

Fri 19 Apr, 2024 - 12:22 PM ET

The Negative Outlook reflects Fitch Ratings’ expectation for gross EBITDAR leverage to be above 5x through 2025, driven by weaker-than-expected profit margins and material near-term financing needs for upcoming aircraft deliveries. Fitch believes Allegiant’s high leverage may be temporary, driven by its heavy capital expenditure cycle. However, the company faces execution risk towards its goals to restore margin performance, which could keep leverage elevated for longer, pressuring the rating. The rating is supported by Allegiant’s insulated business, with 75% of its routes having no competition, its profitable operations and an expectation for healthy leisure demand. Allegiant also has adequate financial flexibility, with EBITDAR fixed-charge coverage at 2.5x–3x in the forecast horizon and sizable liquidity.

Allegiant Flight Attendants Agree ‘Game-Changer’ Labor Deal, Wages to Rise up to 41.2%

Gordon Smith , Skift

April 17th, 2024 at 6:50 AM EDT

Union bosses have said the agreement sets a new benchmark for U.S. flight attendants across the industry.

Gordon Smith

Flight attendants at Allegiant Airlines have agreed to a “game-changer” new labor deal. The breakthrough will see 1,700 crew members receive immediate wage increases.

The average pay rise is 25%, however the exact amount varies. While the minimum is 20%, Allegiant staff with the longest tenure and who have reached the top pay rate under the current contract will get up to 41.2%.

The new agreement is the result of intensive negotiations that started more than 18 months ago. It represents the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) Local 577’s second deal with the Las Vegas-based low-cost airline.

Alex Garcia, TWU International Executive Vice President described the new contract as “a game-changer.” He also suggested it could have an impact across the wider sector, arguing that it “sets a new standard for flight attendants at other low-cost carriers like Spirit and Frontier.”

The agreement covers five years and makes Allegiant crews some of the best paid among U.S. ultra low-cost airlines. In addition to the headline pay rises, the deal also includes what the TWU describes as “wage enhancements.” For example, there will be greater ‘duty rig,’ which increases the amount of time flight attendants are paid for being on duty.

Airline ‘Pleased’ With Deal

Allegiant President Gregory C. Anderson said he was “pleased” that the proposals had been ratified. “This contract is structured to meaningfully improve [flight attendants’] experience and better recognize their vital role as part of Team Allegiant,” he added.

Along with the average 25% wage increase upon ratification, other changes are also in the pipeline. All flight attendants will get an hourly pay rise of 3% each year for a combined 41% average increase over the life of the contract.

The company has credited its “strong positive working relationship” with the TWU for helping reach a deal, which was ratified through a conclusive vote. The TWU reported that 90% of votes were in favor with 97% of eligible voters having their say.

It represented the second phase of the current round of negotiations. An earlier tentative agreement reached in June 2023 was voted down.

Union members are also in line for a combined $10 million bonus. Flight attendants will receive whatever is greater between a minimum $1,500 lump sum or approximately $1,013 per year of service. Full terms of the deal are on  the TWU website .

Labor Unrest Among U.S. Flight Attendants

Allegiant management has not been alone in navigating intensive labor talks . Flight attendants at American Airlines and Alaska Airlines are among those currently negotiating new deals.  Strike action at Alaska is a possibility  if progress is not made in the dispute.

Just last week, flight attendants at United Airlines  picketed the carrier’s major hubs and bases  in the U.S. and U.K. The recent disclosure of United CEO Scott Kirby’s pay sparked the protest — he made close to $19 million in 2023. The airline said it was continuing negotiations with the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) union.

In other developments, flight attendants at low-cost airline Breeze filed the paperwork to unionize with the AFA in January.

Elsewhere, Southwest flight attendants  recently reached a tentative agreement  with the company, but the union needs to ratify the new contract before it can go into effect.
