This beautiful Edwardian theatre nestles between Windsor Castle and the River Thames and is the only unsubsidised producing theatre to operate all year round in Britain.

Our repertoire is wide, ranging from the classics and traditional pantomimes to first productions of new work.

This intimate theatre boasted the late Bill Kenwright as its producer and audiences are treated to new productions before they transfer to the West End or go off on tour around the country.

Theatre Royal Windsor has gained a reputation for the quality of its productions and is currently one of Britain's leading theatres. Its traditional pantomime is considered one of the best in the country.

For more information on our upcoming productions, ticket prices and special group rates, please call our Box Office on 01753 853888 or visit our website www.theatreroyalwindsor.co.uk

Map & directions, road directions.

Theatre Royal Windsor is 25 miles west of central London and just 15 minutes aware from Heathrow Airport.   The town is easily accessible via the M3, M4, M25 and M40.

There are many public car parks within a few minutes walk of the theatre, many of which are council run and use RingGo for ease of payment.  There are also a selection of privately managed car parks close to the theatre.

The town can become very busy at weekends and we recommend you allow plenty of time to find parking if you are coming for a Saturday matinee performance, especially in the run up to Christmas.

Public Transport Directions

There are two main railway stations in Windsor, both within a short walk of the theatre.

Windsor & Eton Riverside station has regular trains to London Waterloo via Staines, Richmond and Clapham Junction.

Windsor & Eton Central station has regular trains to Slough where you can change for London Paddington, Maidenhead and Reading & the Elizabeth Line

Opening Times

* Box Office open Sunday when there is an evening show only.

Our bars are open from one hour before a performance until the end of the interval, stocking a wide range of alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, as well as a selection of crisps, nuts and sweets available for purchase. Food and drink purchased externally is not allowed in our Theatre (except water) and we do not allow glass containers to be brought on to the premises.

This beautiful theatre is the jewel in the crown of the Royal Borough of Windsor, just a stone’s throw away from the historic Windsor Castle. We are the only unsubsidised producing theatre to operate all year round in Britain and with a history that stretches back over 200 years.

Our vision is to provide a first-class regional theatre that is recognised nationally, that produces and presents a core programme of drama and theatre for all residents and visitors to the Windsor area. Acting as a key cultural hub, encouraging participation, learning and engagement with performing arts and supporting the development of performers, creatives, staff and audiences.

Our repertoire is wide, ranging from classic drama and over 80 continuous years of traditional pantomime to first productions of new work some of which subsequently transfer to the West End.

We both receive shows from theatre companies across the UK and internationally in addition to producing and opening Windsor made production and launching many UK Tours.

The Theatre Royal has gained a reputation for the quality of its productions and we are currently one of Britain’s leading regional theatres.

WTG presents Sophocles’ Antigone, a hard-hitting drama exploring the themes of misuse of power and youth rising up to challenge the establishment.

Antigone is outraged when King Creon refuses permission for her dead brother to be buried. With youthful defiance, Antigone goes ahead.

This leads to her downfall as Creon, desperate to assert his authority, condemns her to be buried alive, setting in motion a bloody circle of death.

WTG is staging this production in the 1990s, amid fame culture and the digital media explosion.

The play’s themes are timeless and today’s audiences will recognise these as relatable contemporary issues.
