Kevin Clifton and Maisie Smith lead the cast of Strictly Ballroom The Musical
Full casting has been confirmed for the Craig Revel Horwood-directed 2022/23 UK tour of Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom The Musical .
As previously announced ex EastEnder , 2020 Strictly Come Dancing finalist and Strictly Come Dancing 2019 Children In Need Special champion Maisie Smith will make her musical theatre debut alongside her 2019 Strictly pro-partner Kevin Clifton in the new production of the hit romantic comedy set within the sequin-drenched world of competitive ballroom dancing.
They will be joined by Nikki Belsher (Shirley Hastings); Mark Sangster (Doug Hastings); Gary Davis (Barry Fife); Quinn Patrick (Les Kendall); Oliver Brooks (JJ Silvers); Jose Agudo (Rico); Karen Mann (Abuela); Agnes Pure (Liz); Benjamin Harrold (Ken); Jessica Vaux (Charm); Danielle Cato (Tina Sparkle); Kieran Cooper (Wayne); Maddy Ambus (Vanessa); Adam Davidson (Nathan); and Poppy Blackledge (Pam). The ensemble will feature Liv Alexander, Edwin Ray, Stuart Rouse, Hollie Jane Stephens, Michelle Buckley and Stylianos Thomadakis.
Directed and co-choreographed by the hard-to-please King of the Saturday night put-down, Craig Revel Horwood, and co-choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing ’s creative director Jason Gilkison, the production is due to launch in Portsmouth on 26 September 2022, before dancing into venues across the UK with the tour taking its final bows in Bristol in July 2023.
Commenting on the production, Revel Horwood added: “I’m delighted that the super talented Maisie Smith is joining Kevin Clifton on the Strictly Ballroom UK tour. I can’t wait to see them dance together again. Expect some sexy moves, sizzling costumes and a simply sensational evening! I know that they’ll both be FAB-U-LOUS!”
Leading man Clifton commented: “I’m thrilled to finally be fulfilling my lifelong ambition to play Scott Hastings in Strictly Ballroom The Musical . When I was 10 years old I first watched the movie that would become my favourite film of all time. This is my dream role. I’m beyond excited to be performing with Maisie again – she’s amazing – and can’t wait to don the golden jacket and waltz all over the UK with her in this incredible show!”
Smith who is due to remain with the production until 25 March 2023 added: “Dancing in Strictly has been a huge part of my life, and been so much fun. I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to continue that journey in Strictly Ballroom The Musical . Not only do I get to make my musical theatre debut with my former partner in crime, Kevin Clifton, but I get to work with Craig Revel Horwood and Jason Gilkison again too – I can’t wait.”
A favourite with fans of the BBC celebrity dance show, international Ballroom and Latin champion, Clifton made his musical theatre debut in Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych in 2010 and returned to play Robbie Hart in The Wedding Singer for a limited London season at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre.
As well as being a popular fixture on Saturday night TV, Revel Horwood’s vast musical theatre credentials include playing Miss Hannigan in multiple productions of Annie and directing and choreographing productions of a range of major shows including Sister Act and Chess .
The feel-good story of the rule-breaking dancer and the shy outsider who transforms into the perfect partner first hit the stage as a student play. The play was then transformed into a film by Luhrmann and designer Catherine Martin before the duo working with Terry Johnson, who joined the team to adapt the original book, to return to the stage in its musical incarnation at the Sydney Lyric Theatre in 2014.
Featuring a book by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce and a mixture of feel-good songs from the film’s original soundtrack along with new songs from current chart stars Sia, David Foster and Eddie Perfect also played seasons in Melbourne and Brisbane in 2015. The show made its eagerly anticipated UK debut at the West Yorkshire Playhouse late 2016 before playing a West End run in 2018.

Strictly Ballroom: The Musical UK Tour Review
There is something quite wonderful about the works of Baz Luhrmann. He seems to add a sense of wonder, elegance, and a touch of eccentricity to each piece of work he makes, and his 1992 film Strictly Ballroom is one of those fine pieces of cinematography.
If you were to team up this classic with the choreography and direction of Craig Revel Horwood, you will be sure to create a piece of theatre that is quite simply fab-u-lous. Currently taking to the Mayflower Theatre stage in Southampton, we were treated to a show that would get 10’s across the board.
Based on the film of the same name, Strictly Ballroom introduces you to rebellious Australian dancer Scott Hastings, who causes quite the commotion when he dances in a new and radical way at a dance competition. Needing to find his dancing feet again, he finds an unlikely dance partner in beginner Fran. Over the course of the show you witness the judgements of others, but see the true freedom that someone can find when they lose themselves in the rhythm of the music and follow their heart.
Filled with recognisable songs such as “Love is in the Air” and “Time After Time”, you are also introduced to songs by artists such as Sia and David Foster too. The music blends old and new to create something that ticks all the boxes for every audience member. With costuming that will be fit on any Strictly ballroom, and staging that cleverly transports you through the show, you are immersed from start to finish.
Kevin Clifton takes to the role of Scott Hastings with such ease, it was almost as if the role was made for him. Between dancing on stage constantly, singing his heart out, and acting, he is a true triple threat. Poppy Blackledge stepped into the role of Fran with grace and flourish and you would be honoured to be able to see her play this role that she understudies so brilliantly as she dances and sings with such passion and excellence.
I absolutely adored both Mark Sangster as Doug Hastings, and Jose Agudo as Rico. Both portraying protective parents with Jose blowing us away with his Paso Doble whilst Mark’s quiet yet observant Doug was the perfect blend of comedy and sincerity. I have to say that each and every actor on stage was nothing short of brilliant, with each being a triple threat that allows this show to showcase their multiple talents.
Strictly Ballroom is a show that will entertain and excite audiences with its electrifying dances and eccentric performances. It’s a show that is perfect for fans of the film, or those that just appreciate a good show about losing yourself in dance, finding your passion, and falling in love.
Strictly Ballroom is showing at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton until Saturday 25th Feb before continuing on a UK Tour. For more info and to purchase tickets please follow the links below:

Strictly Come Dancing announces UK arena tour for 2023
Multi-award-winning BBC Studios Entertainment production will be touring the UK with 31 exciting dance packed shows.
Clear the dancefloor and whip out your 10 paddles, because the Strictly Come Dancing Live Arena Tour is back for 2023! For the first time ever, Anton Du Beke will join fellow TV judges Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood on the Strictly Live Tour. The tour will also see the welcome return of the sensational Janette Manrara, who will host the 31 supersized sparkle-filled shows foxtrotting around the country in January and February next year. Tickets are on sale at 9.00am on 30 September from StrictlyComeDancingLive.com .
Opening at the Utilita Arena Birmingham on 20 January, the scintillating live show will then waltz across the country to some of the UK’s biggest entertainment venues: Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena, Leeds’ First Direct Arena, the AO Arena Manchester, Sheffield’s Utilita Arena, Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, London’s O2 Arena, SSE Arena Belfast, culminating at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on 12 February.
The 2023 tour will be directed once again by the A-MAZ-ING Strictly TV Judge Craig Revel Horwood. The show will feature many of the celebrities and professional dancers from the current series of the multi-award-winning BBC One show, together with the Strictly Live Band, a great way to celebrate the 20 th series of this entertainment phenomenon. Further casting announcements will be made soon.
Speaking about the upcoming tour, Anton Du Beke said: "I'm so excited to join my fellow TV judges on the Strictly 2023 tour and have the chance to enjoy all the fun of the live experience with audiences around the UK."
Strictly’s Head Judge Shirley Ballas said: “I’m delighted to be returning to the judging panel, and it will be lovely to have Anton with us. It’s always so much fun! The audiences at the arena shows are phenomenal and it’s so nice to get to see everyone and perform for you all – I can’t wait for January when we get the show on the road!”
Craig Revel Horwood said: “ I'm thrilled to be back directing and judging the 2023 tour. This tour is going to be bigger and better than ever before – my imagination is running wild! With Anton joining the judging panel, one word, three syllables: FAB-U-LOUS!”
Janette Manrara said: “ I’m so excited to be returning to host the 2023 Strictly Live Tour! It is the most incredible experience to be part of this epic production, bringing all we love about the TV series to hundreds of thousands of people around the UK.”
BBC One’s hugely popular Strictly Come Dancing returned to TV screens last weekend with an exciting new celebrity line-up and a host of breathtaking dance routines. Strictly's Live Tour is no different, showcasing all the amazing choreography and fantastic live music that Strictly is famous for, so that audiences around the UK can experience everything they love about the TV show live on stage.
Arena audiences can not only watch the spectacular stars in action as they perform roof-raising routines, but they are also granted the power to decide who wins the coveted Glitterball Trophy at the end of each show. The tour judges will provide their invaluable wisdom, advice and scores at each performance, but the audience vote via text for their favourite couple, and it is ultimately their votes that will decide who wins!
As in 2022, each performance of the tour will host a British Sign Language interpreter, who will be displayed on two very large screens either side of the stage so that attendees can book tickets and sit almost anywhere in the arena to enjoy the experience with family and friends.

Event Details
Old Gods of Appalachia is an eldritch horror fiction podcast set in an Alternate Appalachia, a world where these mountains were never meant to be inhabited. This world feels eerily similar to the hills and hollers we've grown up with, but there are some tell-tale differences. Names of towns and counties may be altered. Historical events slide forward or backward in time. And then, of course, there are the monsters.
Our live show includes a staged storytelling performance similar to an old time radio play, featuring show creators Steve Shell and Cam Collins, a rotating cast of professional actors, and live musical performances.
