Riot Games Reveals 2023 Valorant Champions Tour Format Details

When it comes to first-person shooters, the objective is always to be the last one standing, and that applies in the esports world as well. Be it team-based affairs or solo battles, it pays to survive till the end, and for Valorant players, the top of the food chain lies in the Valorant Champions Tour , which will be headed to Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2023 .

The largest tournament ever in Valorant Champions Tour history, all teams selected will head to South America for the three-week long competition, beginning in February and ending in early march. The team who places first will earn their league an extra slot at the first international event of the season, Masters.

From there, the first competitive split of the year will begin with weekly LAN competition in EMEA, Pacific, and the Americas. This will be followed by International League matches in the cities of Berlin, Seoul, and Los Angeles. Each location will feature on-site talent providing coverage in multiple languages for fans around the world. This split will begin in March, feature eight weeks of regular-season competition, and crown three league champions in May.

While subsequent seasons will feature two International League splits, 2023 will supplement one split with the international tournament in order to provide teams with adequate time to set up in their respective hub locations as part of Valorant Champions Tour 2023.

“The Valorant community’s passion inspired us to dream big and evolve the Valorant Champions Tour to meet the overwhelming demand we’re seeing in every corner of the world,” said Whalen Rozelle, COO, Esports at Riot Games. “In 2023, we’re taking everything we’ve learned, adding in new ideas and forming partnerships that will help us realize our dreams for the next edition of the VCT.”

This would be followed up by the second international tournament of the year in the form of the Masters, which will return in June and feature the best teams from each international league.

This event will reward top teams from each territory with direct qualification to Champions, the Valorant world final. July will see the return of the Last Chance Qualifiers, where top-performing teams who have not yet qualified for Champions will get one last shot to earn an invitation to the most important event of the season.

Each of the three LCQs will advance one team into Champions, and the VCT season will conclude with Champions in August. Teams will then head to the biggest event of the season where one team will be crowned the Valorant Global Champions.

In addition to the new info on the Valorant Champions Tour 2023, Riot Games also provided more details on the Challenge Circuit. This will take place concurrently with the VCT season, paving the way for teams to qualify for international competitions in the 2024 season. Two Challenger splits will begin in January and conclude with the Ascension tournaments in July. These tournaments will feature the best teams from more than twenty different Challenger leagues competing on LAN for regional pride and promotion into the international leagues.

When the PGA Tour changed the format for the Tour Championship, it was supposed to make the proceedings at East Lake much clearer. No longer would there be two different winners, one for the FedEx Cup and one for the Tour Championship, which had happened twice in the last three seasons. One winner, one grand prize, and no more confusion.

Unfortunately for the tour, the new format, which we've yet to actually see, has created just as much if not more confusion than the old format, at least for the casual fan. Things are going to look a little strange on Thursday in Atlanta, where Justin Thomas will begin a tournament with the lead without having hit a shot yet. How's it all going to work? We answered every burning question.

What will the leader board look like?

The leader board is based off where the top 30 players who qualified for East Lake finished in the standings. Justin Thomas' win at the BMW Championship vaulted him into the No. 1 overall spot, meaning he will begin the Tour Championship with a two-shot lead over Patrick Cantlay, who locked up the second spot in the standings thanks to his runner-up finish at Medinah. Brooks Koepka, who was the clear No. 1 when the playoffs began, has dropped to third. Here's what the full leader board will look like with "starting strokes" before the first shot is struck Thursday:

So there are no longer two different winners?

Correct. Since the FedEx Cup Playoffs' inception in 2007, there have been four instances of separate Tour Championship/FedEx Cup winners, including two of the last three seasons. Last year was the most notable occurrence, as it was Tiger Woods who claimed the Tour Championship while Justin Rose, who finished with a final-round three-over 73, won the FedEx Cup. This year, there will be only one winner, and it could be any of the 30 players in the field. In previous years, chances of a player in 30th place winning the FedEx Cup were slim, but this year that player (Jason Kokrak) could win the whole thing if he can come from 10 shots down to start the week.

But wait, what if Jason Kokrak shoots 14-under for the week, and Justin Thomas shoots five-under but has the lower total at 15 under? Kokrak can beat Thomas by nine shots over four days and lose?

That's right. If Kokrak shoots rounds of 65, 67, 68 and 66 to post 14 under for the week, and Justin Thomas goes 69, 69, 70 and 67 to get to 15 under, Thomas would be the winner even though Kokrak was nine shots lower for the week. That is the advantage Thomas earned himself with his BMW victory that got him the No. 1 spot.

Will there be two separate leader boards?

The PGA Tour will keep a separate leader board just for the four rounds played at East Lake without "starting strokes" and Official World Golf Ranking points will be awarded based off that. It's unclear whether that leader board will be shown on the broadcast, but it seems doubtful that it would, because it will only create more confusion.

What will the winner receive? And the rest of the payouts?

The other big change this year is to the payout, otherwise known as the FedEx Cup bonus money, a record $70 million if you include the $10 million that was distributed among the Wyndham Rewards top 10 winners. There is no longer a purse for the Tour Championship, just bonus money given based off a player's finish at East Lake. This year's winner will receive $15 million, a $5 million increase from the previous top prize. The runner-up will earn $5 million, and every player at East Lake will make at least $395,000. Below are the payouts for each player finishing inside the top 10:

1st place - $15 million

2nd place - $5 million

3rd place - $4 million

4th place - $3 million

5th place - $2.5 million

6th place - $1.9 million

7th place - $1.3 million

8th place - $1.1 million

9th place - $950,000

10th place - $830,000

What happens if there is a tie?

If players are tied for first at the end of the Tour Championship, there will be a sudden death playoff to determine the FedEx Cup winner. If players further down the leader board are tied, the FedExCup bonus distribution will be allocated using the same method the tour currently uses to distribute prize money in the event of a tie. The total money for each tying position will be averaged and that average will be distributed to each player in the tying position.

Will it count as an official victory for the Tour Championship winner?

Yes, even though the winner may not shoot the lowest 72-hole total for the week, it will count as an official PGA Tour victory.

What else does the Tour Championship winner get?

The winner also receives a spot in the 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions as well as a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour.

What if a player withdraws from the Tour Championship or is disqualified?

If a player WDs or gets DQ'd, he automatically finishes in 30th place.

Who are the notable players that did not qualify?

Tiger Woods, the defending champion at East Lake, will not get to defend his title because he finished outside the top 30 (42nd) in the FedEx Cup standings. For the second straight season, Jordan Spieth will also miss out on East Lake, as he finished in 44th on the points list. Past FedEx Cup champions Billy Horschel, Henrik Stenson and Jim Furyk all failed to qualify this year, as did Open Championship winner Shane Lowry, who began the BMW Championship in 25th place but fell to 33rd thanks to a T-48 at Medinah. Jason Day, who struggled for much of 2018-'19, also did not finish in the top 30.

One of the PGA Tour’s best golfers will become $15 million richer on Monday, as the FedEx Cup Playoffs come to a close with the annual Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club, which starts Friday.

Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm are favorites to win this weekend after their epic duel at the BMW Championship – and their strong recent finishes will give them a big advantage over the field in the Tour Championship.

To simplify the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the PGA Tour altered the Tour Championship format in 2019, giving players at the top of the standings an edge on the scoreboard. The Playoff field was cut from 70 to 30 last week, with Johnson leading all golfers in the standings. On Friday at East Lake, Johnson will begin the tournament at 10-under par, two shots ahead of second-place Rahm.

Depending on a player’s position in the standings, they will begin at a different score relative to par in the Tour Championship. Rahm will have to overcome a two shot deficit, No. 3 Justin Thomas will begin three shots back of Johnson, and so on. The golfer who wins the Tour Championship will walk away with the FedEx Cup title, and a cool $15 million in prize money.

As players converge in Atlanta to tackle the historic East Lake Golf Club for the Tour Championship , it’s important to note that this event will be different from what fans are used to seeing — and not just because of the lack of fans. The Tour Championship also has a different format from any other event on the PGA Tour. Here are five things to know about the Tour Championship’s unique format.

1. It’s an extremely limited-field event

The field for the Tour Championship is the smallest of the year — and it’s not particularly close. Just the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings qualify for the event, meaning that while the field might be smaller, it is still packed with talent. The field is so exclusive that a number of big-name talents did not qualify, such as Tiger Woods, Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth. But even without those stars in attendance, the field will be stronger than most for the season finale.

2. Players start with a handicapped leaderboard

In a truly unique format, players start the week with a staggered leaderboard based on their standings in the FedEx Cup. This means that Dustin Johnson will start the week at 10 under with a two-stroke lead over Jon Rahm, who comes into the week second in the FedEx Cup Standings. This continues down to the players who just squeaked into the event, who will start the week with a clean slate at even par.

3. It’s winner-take-all for the FedEx Cup

Since the players start on uneven footing, the event is winner take all for the FedEx Cup. Even if Mackenzie Hughes, who just barely squeaked into the field, comes from 10 back and wins the tournament, he will be the season-long FedEx Cup Champion. This quirk was introduced in an effort to appeal to the casual fan, who will now know exactly what the FedEx Cup leaderboard looks like in real time. The change also eliminates the possibility of an awkward duel trophy ceremony on the 18th green in the event that the Tour Championship winner is not the FedEx Cup champion.

4. Second year of the new format

The new handicapped leaderboard format is still in its infancy with this being the second iteration. Last season, Justin Thomas began the week with the lead, but he was supplanted at the top of the leaderboard by Rory McIlroy as he took the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup titles.

5. Largest purse of the year — by far

Even though the field is so small, the purse is the largest of the year with the winner taking home a cool $15 million. In all, the Tour will dole out $60 million in FedEx Cup bonuses by week’s end. The last-place money isn’t too shabby, either, with 30th place cashing a check for $395,000. Not too bad for a week’s work.

Valhalla Golf Club defined over years by Tiger Woods, playoffs, drama in signature events

When the words "Valhalla Golf Club" are mentioned, the first image that likely comes to mind is Tiger Woods pointing at the ball and walking after it as the ball rolled toward the cup on the 16th green in the middle of a playoff with Bob May . That iconic moment — among the many Woods has conjured up during his illustrious career — occurred during the 2000 PGA Championship .

It's far from the only memorable instance at the course.

And far from the only notable tournament the course has held.

Here's a look at previous high-profile events Valhalla has hosted:

1996 PGA Championship

Ten years after Valhalla opened — thanks to the vision of the Gahms, the course's founding family — it finally had its first signature tournament. And what remains the signature win of Mark Brooks ' golfing career.

But it nearly was a storybook ending for the course, and the Bluegrass State: Kenny Perry , a Kentuckian, shot a 4-under-par 68 to end at 11 under for 72 holes. That earned him a spot in a sudden-death playoff with Brooks. On the first playoff hole, however, Perry's tee shot went into the rough.

Brooks, who had birdied the 18th hole to force the playoff with Perry, birdied the 18th again to ruin Perry's dreams — and likely those of many in attendance that August day — of winning a major in his home state.

It was the only major victory for Brooks, who won seven times on the PGA Tour and is a member of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame .

Perry, an Elizabethtown native who played at  Western Kentucky , had 14 wins on the PGA Tour — but a major wasn't among them. He had two other top fives in addition to the 1996 PGA playoff loss; Perry had a share of the 54-hole lead at the 2009 Masters but fell in a sudden-death playoff to Ángel Cabrera .

Since joining the Champions Tour , Perry has won four major championships on the senior circuit.

2000 PGA Championship

Woods entered the 2000 PGA as the undisputed No. 1 player in golf.

May had never won a PGA Tour event.

Their vastly different résumés meant nothing during the final round of what then still was known as "Glory's Last Shot." Woods, who already had the U.S. Open and Open Championship titles to his name that year (winning those two by a combined 23 strokes), had to birdie his final two holes in regulation to force a playoff with May.

The three-hole aggregate playoff — the first year of the format, switching from sudden death — delivered drama in spades.

It started with the aforementioned birdie putt from Woods on the 16th.

The pair each made par on the next hole, the 17th. On the final hole, No. 18, May's birdie putt barely slid by the cup. Woods was able to save par after hitting into a greenside bunker, becoming the first player since Ben Hogan in 1953 with three major victories in a calendar year.

Woods went on to capture the 2001 Masters to complete the "Tiger Slam" and become the first player in the professional era of golf (beginning with the formation of the Masters in 1934) to hold all four major championships at once.

2004 Senior PGA Championship

In a rain-delayed Senior PGA Championship that ended on a Monday, Hale Irwin birdied the 18th hole to beat Jay Haas by one stroke. It was Irwin's fourth Senior PGA Championship ; only the legendary Sam Snead (six) won more. It also was Irwin's 40th win on the senior tour, becoming the first player to reach that figure. (His 45 victories on the senior tour remained the standard until last year, when Bernhard Langer bagged No. 46 ).

Irwin, who led after each round of the 2004 Senior PGA, was 58 at the time of his win, making him the oldest victor of the event since 61-year-old Pete Cooper in 1976 .

2008 Ryder Cup

Things couldn't have been much bleaker for the U.S. team entering the 2008 Ryder Cup . For the first time in the history of the biennial event, Team Europe had brought home the cup three consecutive meetings. And the Americans were without the world's top player, Woods, who sat out while recovering from knee surgery .

But thanks to U.S. captain Paul Azinger , the Americans didn't taste defeat a fourth straight time.

Unlike previous men in his position, Azinger had four captain's picks at his disposal instead of two. And he created a pod system for his team, with the 12 players divided into groups of three based on style of play and personality.

Azinger's unconventional approach paid off: The U.S. ended the morning session of the opening day ahead 3-1 and up 5 ½ to 2 ½ when the afternoon matches wrapped up. By the close of Day 2, the U.S. led 9-7.

The red, white and blue ended Europe's run of success in the event on the third and final day, taking a 16 ½ to 11 ½ victory on their home soil. Perry and fellow Kentuckian J.B. Holmes were members of the triumphant squad.

Jim Furyk 's 2 & 1 win over Miguel Ángel Jiménez provided the clinching point for the U.S. team.

2011 Senior PGA Championship

In yet another tournament at Valhalla decided after 72 holes were in the books, all-time great Tom Watson birdied the first playoff hole to edge David Eger . Both players had opportunities to win in regulation, but neither could sink their respective birdie putts on the 18th.

The lead swapped hands throughout the final day, with four players — Eger, Irwin, Watson and Kiyoshi Murota , who had a share of the lead after each of the first three rounds and placed solo third, just one shot out of the playoff — taking turns at the top.

With the victory, Watson set a (since-broken) record as the oldest player (61) to win a major since the senior tour was founded in 1980.

2014 PGA Championship

At the time Rory McIlroy tapped in his putt on the 72nd hole of the 2014 PGA Championship, it appeared the golf world had its most dominant player since Woods in his prime. It was McIlroy's third win in as many starts , which also included the Open Championship and a World Golf Championship . His Valhalla conquest was his second PGA Championship in three years, giving McIlroy four major titles at just 25 years old; the only others who had accomplished that feat were three of the game's biggest names in Woods, Bobby Jones and Jack Nicklaus .

But since that victory, despite oh-so-many close calls , McIlroy has yet to win another major championship.

And on that day nearly a decade ago, as he raced to beat the darkness , McIlroy had to earn it.

McIlroy held off charges from Phil Mickelson (who shot a final-round 66, two strokes better than McIlroy) and Rickie Fowler (who tied for fifth or better in all four majors that year without a win ). Those three, as well as Henrik Stenson , had at least a share of the lead on the back nine during the final round.

A 10-foot birdie putt on 17 extended McIlroy's lead to two shots with one hole to play, but then controversy ensued: He hit his tee shot on the 18th while the pairing ahead, Fowler and Mickelson, still were in the fairway. Neither Fowler nor Mickelson could match McIlroy at 16 under.

As dusk set in, the Northern Irishman cemented his status as the world's top-ranked golfer.

"I think I showed a lot of guts out there to get the job done," McIlroy said after the win. "Today wasn't easy. The guys came at me pretty quickly. I was waiting for something to click."

For the fourth time in the event's history, Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky will host the 2024 PGA Championship. Play gets underway on Thursday, May 16, and the 2024 PGA Championship field is headlined by Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Brooks Koepka. Scheffler is the 3-1 betting favorite in the latest 2024 PGA Championship odds, followed by McIlroy (6-1), Koepka (10-1), Xander Schauffele (12-1), Ludvig Aberg (12-1), and Jon Rahm (14-1). Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods is a 125-1 longshot. The field will be competing for a total 2024 PGA Championship purse of $17.5 million, with the winner taking home $3.15 million. 

Koepka enters as the defending tournament champion after edging out Scheffler and Viktor Hovland by two strokes in 2023. The One and Done format is growing in popularity. It has several noticeable similarities to NFL Survivor pools, with the main difference being entries are not eliminated with a bad week. Golfers can only be used once per season, and the point format makes nailing majors, signature events, and big money tournaments critical.

McClure is a DFS legend with over $2 million in career winnings, and he's been red-hot on his PGA picks dating back to the PGA Tour restart in June of 2020. McClure uses his proprietary simulation model to analyze the field and crush his golf picks.

McClure has been on fire with his One and Done picks in 2024. At The American Express he backed Justin Thomas, who finished in third place and took home $635,600. At the Genesis Invitational, McClure tabbed Patrick Cantlay, who finished in fourth place at the signature event, as his top OAD pick. At the Cognizant Classic, McClure's top one and done pick, Min Woo Lee, finished in a tie for second place. Finally, at the Arnold Palmer Invitation, another signature event, McClure recommended using Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris. The Result: Scheffler won the event by five strokes, and Zalatoris finished in fourth place.

His hot steak continued at the Players Championship, where McClure again recommended using Scheffler (if was still available) and Xander Schauffele. Both players were in contention until the end, with Scheffler coming out with the win and Schauffele finishing in second place! Then, at the Valspar Championship, McClure recommended using Cameron Young, who finished in second place, in OAD pools.

More recently, at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, McClure recommended using 50-1 longshot Alex Noren in One and Done pools. Noren would go on to be in contention until the end, before finishing in third place, two strokes off the lead.

Top 2024 PGA Championship One and Done picks

One of McClure's top One and Done picks this week for the PGA Championship is Collin Morikawa. Find out all you need to know ahead of the 2024 US PGA Championship , the second of this year's four men's major golf championships.

This year will be the 106th edition in its history, and is scheduled to be held between Thursday, May 16 through to Sunday, May 19 at Valhalla Golf Club, in the state of Kentucky in the United States.

What is the format of the US PGA Championship?

The US PGA Championship is a 72-hole individual strokeplay tournament contested over four rounds of 18 holes.

Following the first 36 holes of play, the 156-player field will be reduced to the low 70 scorers and ties with those players advancing to compete in the final two rounds.

What is the format should there be a play-off?

In the event of a tie for first place after 72 holes, there will be a three-hole aggregate score play-off on holes 13, 17 and 18. If still tied, there will be a hole-by-hole play-off on hole 18, 13, 17 and 18 repeated.

The last play-off was in 2022, when Justin Thomas overcame fellow American Will Zalatoris to win his second US PGA Championship title.

Who is the defending champion?

Brooks Koepka claimed his third US PGA Championship with a two-shot victory over Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland last year as the American won his fifth major overall.

Who is in the field?

Each of the top 103 players in the Official World Golf Ranking will tee it up in Louisville, Kentucky.

A plethora of DP World Tour members are in the field, including Jesper Svensson who is set for his major debut after receiving an invite from the PGA of America following some impressive results in his rookie season on the DP World Tour, including victory at the Porsche Singapore Classic in March.

Among others, he joins countryman Ludvig Åberg, who finished runner-up on his first Major start at the Masters last month.

Fellow Swede Sebastian Söderberg, Japan's Keita Nakajima and Spain's Adrian Otaegui secured exemptions by finishing in the top three on the DP World Tour's recent Asian Swing.

The final two spots in the 156-player field are being reserved for winners of this week’s PGA TOUR events, the Wells Fargo Championship and Myrtle Beach Classic.

World Number One Scottie Scheffler has been the dominant force in 2024, winning four times in his last five starts and finishing second in the other.

Ahead of the second men's major of the year, the American, who won his second Masters title last month, skipped the PGA TOUR's Wells Fargo Championship ahead of the imminent birth of his first child.

Race to Dubai Rankings leader Rory McIlroy is back at the scene of his most recent major victory at this tournament in 2014, when he completed the last hole in near darkness to claim what was thenhis second major victory in four weeks.

Before we begin, if you're not familiar with game, read this primer on the one-and-done fantasy golf format , and welcome to the game. It really is as easy as it sounds, but you have to take a long-term view of the season to figure out how best to use players.

This week, we have the PGA Championship, which is the second men's major championship of the year. Valhalla hosts for the fourth time, with a strong, albeit short, pedigree of winners. The players should be able to largely get what they want here, though the Nicklaus design offers some challenging putting surfaces.

The FedExCup Playoffs brings unique drama in professional golf, with a starting field of 70 players whittled down to one FedExCup champion.

The Playoffs kicks off at the 70-player FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, followed by the 50-player BMW Championship at Olympia Fields Country Club outside Chicago.

The final 30 players remaining will proceed to East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta for the TOUR Championship, which features a Starting Strokes format to reward the highest-ranked players on the season-long FedExCup standings, a cumulative race but with quadruple points awarded at the first two Playoffs events.

The player with the lowest score after 72 holes at East Lake, handicapped by Starting Strokes, will earn the FedExCup title.

What’s the FedExCup?

The 2022-23 PGA TOUR Season marks the 17th edition of the FedExCup, a season-long points competition which culminates with the FedExCup Playoffs, a series of three events to determine the FedExCup champion.

The 2022-23 PGA TOUR Regular Season featured 47 official FedExCup events beginning with the 2022 Fortinet Championship and running through the 2023 Wyndham Championship. TOUR members earn FedExCup points based on their finish at each tournament, with an emphasis placed on wins and high finishes.

The top 70 players in the FedExCup standings are eligible for the FedExCup Playoffs with the three events featuring a progressive cut with fields of 70, 50 and 30 players.

The first two FedExCup Playoffs events, the FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship, each offer quadruple points (2,000 points to the winner) compared to a standard Regular Season event (500 points to the winner).

The FedExCup Playoffs finale, the TOUR Championship, features FedExCup Starting Strokes, a staggered, strokes-based system that represents the final FedExCup standings, recognizing players for their Regular Season performance as well as their play in the first two FedExCup Playoffs events.

The total bonus pool for the FedExCup Playoffs is $75 million, with the FedExCup champion earning $18 million.

What’s at stake?

Here’s a closer look at what players are competing for during the FedExCup Playoffs and what’s at stake each week.

Note: In the event an eligible player is unable or chooses not to play, the field will be shortened and no alternates will be added. There are no cuts in FedExCup Playoffs events.

The top 70 in the FedExCup standings after the Wyndham Championship are guaranteed of retaining top-125 status for the following season. That status makes them exempt for all Full-Field Events and gives them a spot in THE PLAYERS.

Players who advanced to the FedEx St. Jude Championship but did not qualify for the BMW Championship – i.e. Nos. 51-70 in the FedExCup – will carry FedExCup points earned in the Regular Season and at the FedEx St. Jude Championship into the FedExCup Fall.

In the Fall, those players will try to earn one of the 10 spots available in next season’s first two Signature Events after The Sentry. Those spots will go to the top 10 players in the final FedExCup standings (after The RSM Classic) who are not yet exempt for those two Signature Events.

Making it to the BMW Championship carries the utmost importance for 2024.

Those who advance to the BMW Championship are guaranteed access to all Signature Events for 2024. Each Signature Event will feature approximately 70-80 of the TOUR’s top players competing for elevated purses and increased FedExCup points.

The eight Signature Events are as follows:

• The Sentry (Jan. 1-7) • AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Jan. 29-Feb. 4) • The Genesis Invitational (Feb. 12-18) • Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard (March 4-10) • RBC Heritage (April 15-21) • Wells Fargo Championship (May 6-12) • the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday (June 3-9) • Travelers Championship (June 17-23)

The Sentry, which will serve as the season-opener in 2024, previously invited tournament winners and players who qualified for the TOUR Championship. Tournament winners in 2023 are still exempt for the 2024 Sentry, as well.

Under the Starting Strokes format, the TOUR Championship features a staggered start based on players’ standing in the FedExCup.

Qualifying for the TOUR Championship carries a two-year exemption on TOUR. It also brings an invitation to the 2024 Masters and traditionally has carried exemptions into the U.S. Open and The Open, as well (those tournaments have yet to announce their exemption criteria for 2024).

The FedExCup champion receives a five-year TOUR exemption.

The player who finishes atop the TOUR Championship leaderboard is the FedExCup champion. Finishing first at East Lake brings an $18 million FedExCup Bonus. The runner-up receives $6.5 million, and everyone at East Lake earns at least $500,000.

TOUR Championship and FedExCup Starting Strokes

At the TOUR Championship, the player with the lowest stroke total over 72 holes when combined with his FedExCup Starting Strokes will be named FedExCup champion. He will also receive an official victory at the TOUR Championship.

The FedExCup points leader after the first two Playoffs events will begin the TOUR Championship at 10-under par. The No. 2 player will start at 8-under. The No. 3 player starts at 7-under; the No. 4 player starts at 6-under; the No. 5 player starts at 5-under. Players 6-10 start at 4-under; players 11-15 start at 3-under; players 16-20 start at 2-under; players 21-25 start at 1-under; and players 26-30 start at even par.

In the event there are tied players at any position going into the TOUR Championship, tied players will be awarded the same number of Starting Strokes for Round 1. For example, if two players are tied for second position, both players would start at 8 under and the No. 4 player would start at 6 under.

Any professional that is qualified for the TOUR Championship but unable to participate will not be awarded Starting Strokes, and Starting Stroke positions for the remaining players will not be reallocated. Any professional who is unable to play, is disqualified or withdraws for any reason will finish in last position for the TOUR Championship.
