Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Psalm 119:105 beautifully illustrates the idea that our journey through life is often likened to a path in the darkness. In this analogy, God’s Word is likened to a lamp, providing illumination and guidance along the way.

Just as a traveler relies on a lamp to navigate through a dark and treacherous terrain, believers rely on the teachings and guidance found in the Bible to navigate the complexities of life. This verse reminds us that the Scriptures serve as a source of direction, wisdom, and illumination for our journey, ensuring that we do not stumble or lose our way.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 offers profound guidance for life’s journey. It encourages us to place our trust in the Lord wholeheartedly and to acknowledge His wisdom above our own.

This verse teaches that, by submitting to God in all our ways, we allow Him to guide and direct our paths, making them straight and purposeful. It underscores the importance of relying on God’s understanding rather than our limited human understanding, ensuring that our journey is aligned with His will.

Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:31 offers comfort and encouragement for the journey of life. It speaks of placing our hope and trust in the Lord, with the promise that He will renew our strength.

Just as eagles soar effortlessly, believers who place their hope in the Lord will find the strength to endure and overcome the challenges they encounter on their journey. This verse reminds us that our journey is not a solitary struggle; rather, it is a path where we can rely on God’s sustaining power and find the strength to persevere.

Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Matthew 7:13-14 presents a stark contrast between two paths in life. It describes a wide and broad road that leads to destruction, a path often chosen by many, and a narrow gate and road that lead to life, which only a few find.

This passage reminds us that the journey of faith may not always be popular or easy, but it is the path that leads to eternal life. It encourages us to carefully consider the choices we make on our journey and to choose the narrow road of righteousness and faithfulness.

Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Hebrews 12:1 likens the Christian journey to a race and calls for perseverance and endurance. The “great cloud of witnesses” refers to the faithful men and women of the past who have gone before us, serving as examples of faithfulness.

This verse encourages us to cast off anything that hinders our progress and to remain steadfast in our journey of faith. It reminds us that our journey is not a sprint but a marathon, one marked out for us by God Himself.

We are called to run this race with perseverance, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, who is both the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). This verse inspires us to continue our journey with endurance, knowing that our ultimate destination is in the presence of our Lord.

Exodus 13:21 (NIV)

By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.

In Exodus 13:21, we witness God’s incredible guidance during the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness. During the day, a pillar of cloud went before them, and at night, a pillar of fire provided light.

This supernatural guidance and illumination symbolize God’s continuous presence and guidance throughout our life journeys. It reminds us that God is our ever-present guide, leading us even in the darkest and most challenging moments. Like the Israelites, we can trust that God’s guidance will be with us every step of the way.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Isaiah 43:2 offers profound assurance in the face of adversity. It acknowledges that our life journey may include deep waters and fiery trials, but God promises His unwavering presence and protection.

Just as the waters did not overwhelm the Israelites when they crossed the Red Sea, and the flames did not consume Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace, God’s presence shields us from harm during our trials. This verse encourages us to trust in God’s faithfulness as we navigate life’s challenges, knowing that His presence is our safeguard.

Luke 24:32 (NIV)

They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Luke 24:32 recounts the moment when two disciples encountered the resurrected Jesus on the road to Emmaus. Their hearts burned with spiritual fervor as Jesus explained the Scriptures to them. This verse captures the transformative power of God’s Word during our journey of faith.

It reminds us that our journey is not just a physical one but also a spiritual one. As we engage with God’s Word and encounter Jesus along the way, our hearts can be set ablaze with understanding, faith, and passion for Him. It encourages us to seek encounters with Christ in the Scriptures and allow His presence to ignite our faith journey.

Acts 20:24 (NIV)

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.

In Acts 20:24, the Apostle Paul expresses his unwavering commitment to his journey of faith. He considers his own life as insignificant compared to the mission God has entrusted to him.

This verse encapsulates the sense of purpose and determination that should mark our own faith journeys. It challenges us to prioritize the mission of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace above all else.

Just as Paul was resolute in finishing the race set before him, we too are called to persevere in our faith journey, with a single-minded focus on sharing the good news of God’s grace with the world.

This verse reassures us that fear and discouragement need not hinder our progress because the Lord, our God, accompanies us wherever we go. The journey of faith often presents challenges and uncertainties, but the presence of God is our constant source of strength and courage.

Joshua’s story reminds us that as we move forward in faith, we can do so with unwavering confidence in God’s steadfast presence and His ability to guide us through every circumstance.

This verse encourages us to view the journey of faith through the lens of divine providence, understanding that every experience, whether joyful or challenging, serves a purpose in God’s plan. It reminds us that our faith journey is guided by a loving God who is committed to shaping us into the image of His Son. As we walk in alignment with His purpose, we can find peace and hope in the knowledge that He is working all things together for our benefit.

In 1 Corinthians 9:24, the Apostle Paul employs the metaphor of a race to describe the Christian journey of faith. He encourages believers to run with a determination to win the prize.

This verse underscores the importance of diligence, discipline, and focused effort in our faith journey. Just as athletes train rigorously and run with a singular goal in mind, we are called to pursue our faith journey with intentionality and purpose.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

For we live by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7 succinctly encapsulates the essence of the Christian faith journey. This verse challenges us to move forward in our faith walk even when we cannot see the full path ahead. It encourages us to depend on our relationship with God and His Word as the guiding lights of our journey. Faith is the compass that points us in the right direction and sustains us when circumstances seem unclear or challenging. It prompts us to seek God’s will and trust His leading, even when it requires stepping into the unknown.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:1 is often referred to as the “faith definition.” It succinctly captures the essence of faith in the context of the faith journey. Faith is portrayed as a deep and unwavering confidence in what we hope for and an assurance in what we cannot yet see.

This verse reminds us that faith is an essential element of our journey with God. As we navigate life’s uncertainties and challenges, faith serves as our anchor, grounding us in the promises of God. It encourages us to trust in God’s faithfulness and to move forward with confidence, even when the path ahead is unclear.

1 Peter 2:21 (NIV)

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

This verse reminds us that our faith journey is not meant to be traveled in our own strength but in dependence on God. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus extends an invitation to all who are weary and burdened by the struggles of life’s journey. He offers rest and relief to those who come to Him. This passage reminds us that our faith journey is not meant to be a heavy and wearisome endeavor.

2 Timothy 4:7-8, written by the Apostle Paul near the end of his life, serves as a powerful testimony of his faith journey. Paul describes his journey as a fight, a race, and a commitment to keeping the faith.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33 provides a foundational principle for the faith journey. It encourages us to prioritize God’s kingdom and righteousness above all else. This verse reminds us that when we seek God’s kingdom first, aligning our desires and actions with His will, He promises to provide for our needs.

Our faith journey is a constant seeking of God’s presence and purpose in our lives. It challenges us to surrender our anxieties about material and earthly concerns and trust that God will faithfully meet our needs as we pursue Him wholeheartedly.

Psalm 34:4 (NIV)

I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:4 testifies to the power of seeking the Lord during our faith journey. The psalmist declares that when they sought the Lord, He answered and delivered them from all their fears.

This verse reminds us that seeking God is an essential aspect of our journey, especially in times of distress and fear. It encourages us to approach God in prayer, seeking His presence, guidance, and deliverance. Our faith journey is marked by moments of seeking God’s intervention and finding solace and courage in His responses.

What Does the Bible Say About Journey

The Bible contains numerous references to the concept of a journey, both in a physical and spiritual sense. Here are some key passages that shed light on what the Bible says about journeys:

The Journey of the Israelites Exodus ( Exodus 12:37-42, NIV ): This passage recounts the Israelites’ journey out of Egypt, emphasizing how God led them and protected them throughout their long and arduous journey to the Promised Land. It highlights the theme of God’s guidance and faithfulness during the journey of His people.

The Journey of Abram (Genesis 12:1-4, NIV): God called Abram (later known as Abraham) to leave his homeland and go on a journey to a land God would show him. This marks the beginning of a significant faith journey for Abraham, illustrating obedience and trust in God’s guidance.

The Journey of Faith ( Hebrews 11:8-10, NIV ): Hebrews 11, often called the “Faith Hall of Fame,” highlights various individuals in the Bible who embarked on journeys of faith. The passage about Abraham’s journey to the Promised Land underscores the faith and hope that guided him in his earthly pilgrimage.

The Heavenly Journey (2 Corinthians 5:6-8, NIV): This passage speaks of the ultimate spiritual journey for believers—the journey from this earthly life to being present with the Lord in heaven. It emphasizes that as Christians, our journey extends beyond this world into eternity.

Prayer to Guide Our Journey

Heavenly Father,

We come before you today with hearts filled with gratitude for the journey of faith you have set before us. We acknowledge that this path is not always easy, but it is one filled with the promise of your presence, guidance, and purpose.

Lord, we seek your wisdom and strength as we navigate the twists and turns of our faith journey. Help us to trust in your unfailing love and to rely on your word as a lamp to guide our steps. May your Spirit fill us with hope and courage, even in the face of challenges.

Lord, we recognize that our faith journey is not a solitary one. We are united with fellow travelers, and we pray for one another’s encouragement and support along the way. May we be a source of inspiration and comfort to those who journey beside us.

Grant us the grace to persevere through trials, knowing that you work all things for our good. Help us to keep our eyes fixed on you, the author and finisher of our faith, and to run this race with endurance.

Father, as we journey, may our faith deepen, our love for you grow stronger, and our lives be a testimony to your grace and mercy. Use us to shine your light in the world, to offer hope to those in need, and to bring glory to your name.

We entrust our faith journey into your loving hands, knowing that you are the ultimate guide and destination. In Jesus’ name, we pray.

75+ Inspirational Christian Quotes

“Have mercy oh gracious Father! upon all that are now suffering from whatsoever cause, that are in any circumstance of danger or distress. Give them patience under every affliction, strengthen, comfort and relieve them.” ~ Jane Austen

75+ Inspirational Christian Quotes

Christian quotes aren’t hard to find. You can find them on keychains, coffee mugs, your own Facebook page, and a dozen other places. Christian quotes are usually short, catchy, and written in looping calligraphy, and more often than not, they’re cheesy enough to make us roll our eyes.

But not all Christian quotes are like that. Some of them barge into our brains and refuse to leave. Some of them stick with us. Change us. Make us better.

Christian Quotes to Inspire You

I’ve been exposed to Christian literature my whole life, so here are seven of my favorite Christian quotes that have stuck with me and have since made me better. We have then included over 50 of the most popular Christian quotes that can provide timely encouragement on topics important to your faith.

1. John Piper

God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.

What it means to me: The more we rely on God, and the more we let ourselves be content with Him, the more God makes Himself evident in our lives.

What to do about it: Realize that while the world is a beautiful place, it can never fill up our souls the way God does. You don’t need to remodel the bathroom; you need God. You don’t need a new car; you need God. Realize that, and you’ll have a much harder time griping when life doesn’t go your way.

2. Rick Warren

God’s purpose is greater than our problems.

What it means to me:   Human life is a messy business — a hodge-podge of everything from minor inconveniences to death itself. God is bigger than every single one of those things.

What to do about it:   Human life and all its problems may be messy, but it is also temporary. Realize that while it’s natural and necessary to grieve, even the most excruciating physical and emotional pain can become insignificant as a fly when faced with the Almighty God.

3. RC Sproul

We are secured not because we hold tightly to Jesus, but because he holds tightly to us.

What it means to me: I’m a fickle person who can’t possibly love God with anything other than broken promises, mixed motivations, and selfish intentions. I can’t possibly hold onto God with that kind of heart, but I’m saved because, despite all that, God doesn’t want to let me go.

What to do about it: If you’re not sure whether or not you’re a “good Christian,” remember that there is no such thing. Moses’s burst of anger got him barred from the Promised Land. King David committed adultery, murder, and an attempted coverup of both. Peter denied his love for Jesus three times. If these biblical heroes, who were also completely human were saved by God, then you can, too.

4. C.S. Lewis

You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.

What it means to me:   It’s true that we’ve made a lot of mistakes, and it’s true that we can’t go back and change them. But God cares much less about our pasts than about helping us move forward in a better way.

What to do about it: Quit wallowing in all the things you’ve done wrong and go live your life! Yes, it’s important to examine your mistakes, learn from them, and make amends, however possible. But the more time you spend looking at your past, the less time you spend looking at God.

5. Oswald Chambers

We are all ill-taught if we look for results only in the earthlies when we pray. A praying saint performs far more havoc among the unseen forces of darkness than we have the slightest notion of.

What it means to me: The phrase “all we can do is pray” is nonsense. Poppycock. Codswallop. Even if your prayers don’t heal your loved one’s sickness, or keep your spouse from getting laid off, or make this or that politician act like a decent human being for once, your prayers do something better: They draw upon the strength of God, and they use that strength to win the battle for your soul.

What to do about it: Learn to pray for what God wants, not what you want. Ask Him what His will is before you pray for what your will is.

6. Watchman Nee

Good is not always God’s will, but God’s will is always good.

What it means to me:   God doesn’t just passively watch as Satan wreaks havoc; He actively allows bad things to happen. The fact that God challenged Satan to destroy Job’s family, living, and health for the sake of a bet is proof of that. But God used that bet to teach Job that his friends weren’t good friends at all, it isn’t his place to question God, and that faith is stronger than even the most devastating hardships.

What to do about it: No matter how terrible life gets, don’t let yourself get fixated on the waves that crash around you. Instead, focus on Jesus and walk across the water.

7. Billy Graham

God proved His love on the cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died, it was God saying to the world, “I love you.”

What it means to me: It means that nothing we do, nothing we say, and nothing we think can be big enough to make God turn away from us. This one act — this one attack that won the war between God and death — is living proof that the gospel is real. That God means it when He gives love in return for our hate.

What to do about it: Think about this, the greatest “I-love-you,” every minute of every day. Share it. Live by it. Be defined by it. God let Jesus be spit on and flogged and crucified so that humans could be His family. In light of that simple truth, everything beautiful becomes more so, and everything ugly becomes insignificant.

Christian Quotes About Love

Our vision is so limited we can hardly imagine a love that does not show itself in protection from suffering... The love of God did not protect His own Son... Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: You don't give up. - Anne Lamott

Hope is called the anchor of the soul ( Hebrews 6:19 ) because it gives stability to the Christian life. But hope is not simply a ‘wish’ (I wish that such-and-such would take place); rather, it is that which latches on to the certainty of the promises of the future that God has made. - R.C. Sproul

1 Peter 1:18-21 The Message

18-21  Your life is a journey you must travel with a deep consciousness of God. It cost God plenty to get you out of that dead-end, empty-headed life you grew up in. He paid with Christ’s sacred blood, you know. He died like an unblemished, sacrificial lamb. And this was no afterthought. Even though it has only lately—at the end of the ages—become public knowledge, God always knew he was going to do this for you. It’s because of this sacrificed Messiah, whom God then raised from the dead and glorified, that you trust God, that you know you have a future in God.

Trump promotes Lee Greenwood's 'God Bless The USA Bible': What to know about the book and its long journey

god in our journey quotes

  • Former president Donald Trump encourages supporters to buy Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA Bible," a project inspired by Nashville country musician's hit song.
  • Resurgent version of Greenwood's Bible project a modified version from original concept, a change that likely followed 2021 shake-up in publishers.

After years with few updates about Lee Greenwood’s controversial Bible, the project is again resurgent with a recent promotion by former President Donald Trump.

“All Americans need to have a Bible in their home and I have many. It’s my favorite book,” Trump said in a video posted to social media Tuesday, encouraging supporters to purchase the “God Bless The USA Bible.” “Religion is so important and so missing, but it’s going to come back.”

Greenwood — the Nashville area country musician whose hit song “God Bless the USA” inspired the Bible with a similar namesake — has long been allies with Trump and other prominent Republicans, many of whom are featured in promotional material for the “God Bless The USA Bible.” But that reputational clout in conservative circles hasn’t necessarily translated to business success in the past, largely due to a major change in the book’s publishing plan.

Here's what to know about the Bible project’s journey so far and why it’s significant it’s back in the conservative limelight.

An unordinary Bible, a fiery debate

The “God Bless The USA Bible” received heightened attention since the outset due to its overt political features.

The text includes the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, Pledge of Allegiance, and the lyrics to the chorus to Greenwood’s “God Bless The USA.” Critics saw it as a symbol of Christian nationalism, a right-wing movement that believes the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation.

A petition emerged in 2021 calling Greenwood’s Bible “a toxic mix that will exacerbate the challenges to American evangelicalism.” From there, a broader conversation ensued about the standards by which publishers print Bibles.

Gatekeeping in Bible publishing

Greenwood’s early business partner on the project, a Hermitage-based marketing firm called Elite Source Pro, initially reached a manufacturing agreement with the Nashville-based HarperCollins Christian Publishing to print the “God Bless The USA Bible.”

As part of that agreement, HarperCollins would publish the book but not sell or endorse it. But then HarperCollins reversed course , a major setback for Greenwood’s Bible.

The reversal by HarperCollins followed a decision by Zondervan — a publishing group under HarperCollins Christian Publishing and an official North American licensor for Bibles printed in the New International Version translation — to pass on the project. HarperCollins said the decision was unrelated to the petition or other public denunciations against Greenwood’s Bible.

The full backstory: Lee Greenwood's 'God Bless the USA Bible' finds new printer after HarperCollins Christian passes

A new translation and mystery publisher

The resurgent “God Bless The USA Bible” featured in Trump’s recent ad is an altered version of the original concept, a modification that likely followed the publishing shake-up.

Greenwood’s Bible is now printed in the King James Version, a different translation from the original pitch to HarperCollins.

Perhaps the biggest mystery is the new publisher. That manufacturer is producing a limited quantity of copies, leading to a delayed four-to-six weeks for a copy to ship.

It’s also unclear which business partners are still involved in the project. Hugh Kirkman, who led Elite Service Pro, the firm that originally partnered with Greenwood for the project, responded to a request for comment by referring media inquiries to Greenwood’s publicist.

The publicist said Elite Source Pro is not a partner on the project and the Bible has always been printed in the King James Version.

"Several years ago, the Bible was going to be printed with the NIV translation, but something happened with the then licensor and the then potential publisher. As a result, this God Bless The USA Bible has always been printed with the King James Version translation," publicist Jeremy Westby said in a statement.

Westby did not have the name of the new licensee who is manufacturing the Bible.

Trump’s plug for the “God Bless The USA Bible” recycled language the former president is using to appeal to a conservative Christian base.

“Our founding fathers did a tremendous thing when they built America on Judeo-Christian values,” Trump said in his video on social media. “Now that foundation is under attack perhaps as never before.”

An 80-year-old had a stroke during a Norwegian cruise excursion. After the ship left her behind on an African island, her family tracked her journey home using an Apple AirTag.

  • Julie Lenkoff had a stroke during a Norwegian cruise-sponsored tour on an African island, her son-in-law said.
  • The cruise continued sailing, and the tour company said they left her with other stranded cruisers.
  • The family said Norwegian failed to contact them while Lenkoff was abroad. They used an AirTag to track her journey home.

Insider Today

It wasn't a surprise to Julie Lenkoff's family that she was going on another cruise.

The 80-year-old has visited 120 countries, speaks 10 languages, and has been on countless cruises. Lenkoff is an experienced traveler, so no one batted an eye when she boarded a 21-day Norwegian cruise along the coast of Africa by herself on March 20, Kurt Gies, Lenkoff's son-in-law, told Business Insider.

But her family was shocked when another cruise passenger phoned Lenkoff's daughter, Lana Gies, to tell her they were with Lenkoff, Kurt said. She had been released from a hospital, could hardly speak, was losing her vision, and was on the African island of São Tomé and Príncipe.

Kurt told BI Lenkoff had a stroke during a cruise-sponsored excursion and that the tour operator and cruise company left her at a hospital, where she was later discharged and left to figure out her own way home.

Kurt said a group of stranded tourists helped Lenkoff return to the US, where she remains in serious condition at the Stanford Medical Center.

"We had the means, the technology, and the ability to navigate this massive network to get her home," Kurt said. "I can only imagine if a family didn't or if that person was truly by themselves. What would've happened?"

The family says they have other stranded cruisers to thank for Lenkoff's return

On March 27, day eight of the Norwegian cruise, passengers disembarked the ship to explore São Tomé and Príncipe.

Kurt said Lenkoff joined a cruise-sponsored excursion with the tour company Navetur Equatour. During the tour, she passed out and fell, Diogo Beirão, the chief operating officer of the tour company, confirmed to BI. When Lenkoff regained consciousness, he said she couldn't speak English and had lost feeling in the right side of her body.

At the time, Beirão said the main concern was if Lenkoff had broken a bone or experienced a concussion. Kurt said doctors in the US later confirmed that Lenkoff had a stroke.

Beirão told BI that his tour guides brought Lenkoff back to the dock, where he says a nurse from the Norwegian cruise evaluated her on the pier.

In a statement sent to BI, a Norwegian cruise representative said that "on March 27, 2024, an 80-year-old woman was medically disembarked after being evaluated by our onboard medical team, who thought it best that she receive further assessment and treatment as needed from a local hospital."

Beirão said Lenkoff was transported to the closest hospital, which was "not very comfortable" because it "had no private rooms, just curtains." However, Beirão said he believes it was the right decision not to let her reboard the cruise.

Kurt said Norwegian brought Lenkoff the belongings from her room; however, her credit cards and cash were lost. He added that the tour company later found the missing wallet in a tour van, which was brought to Lenkoff more than 24 hours after she was released from the hospital.

Kurt said he and the rest of Lenkoff's family had no idea this was happening since Norwegian hadn't contacted them.

Meanwhile, a group of eight people were on a separate, private tour of São Tomé and Príncipe. BI previously reported that the tour ran into issues, and the group missed the ship's boarding deadline .

The group was stranded on the island without cash or medications and with one working credit card, which passengers Jill and Jay Campbell owned. The group found a hotel, contacted the closest American consulate, and planned to meet the ship at its next port in the Gambia.

As all this was happening, Kurt said, Lenkoff was released from the hospital.

Beirão said he was unaware that Lenkoff had a stroke, but he visited her at the hospital, and "she was not totally functional" but "could speak very well." While Lenkoff could communicate, Beirão said she often forgot what she was trying to say mid-sentence.

In Norwegian's statement, the representative said: "We attempted to call the guest several times, and as we were unable to reach her, we worked directly with our port agent in São Tomé and Príncipe, an African island nation, to receive updates about the guest."

"In instances such as these," the statement continued, "as the guest was released from the hospital and in a coherent state, our protocol is to contact the guest directly, as we would not have the authority to share any medical details with anyone else without their expressed consent."

Kurt said there are no phone or WhatsApp records of Norwegian reaching out on her cellphone, and he believes that family members should've been contacted in this instance since the company could not reach Lenkoff to confirm she was in a coherent state.

Related stories

After being discharged, Kurt said the tour company connected the Americans with Lenkoff.

"You have people figuring out how they're getting off this island, and they're given the responsibility to take care of an 80-year-old woman who just had a stroke," Kurt said.

At the time, Lenkoff had no way to pay for anything, so the Campbells provided Lenkoff with food and a place to sleep, Kurt said.

"I truly believe sometimes we're put in certain places for a reason, and I believe we were put in this place for the 80-year-old woman who was left alone. God forbid what would have happened to that lady if we were not here," Jay Campbell told North Carolina's WRAL .

Kurt said Lenkoff was still having trouble speaking and had started to lose her vision.

Using Lenkoff's phone, Jill Campbell called Lenkoff's daughter to tell her what happened. Around the same time, the American consulate called, though Kurt said the family was unsure how the consulate learned about Lenkoff's state.

Kurt said he and Lana attempted to reach Norwegian multiple times but couldn't connect with anyone at the company.

"It was decided that we need to get Julie off that island," he said. "No one at Norwegian was going to take responsibility for it."

The Norwegian representative told BI Lenkoff had been "escorted on a flight to Lisbon, Portugal, and then put in the care of airport staff to continue her journey to the United States, where she has now made a safe return."

Kurt said all of Lenkoff's travel arrangements were "made by her family" and that it wasn't Norwegian who escorted her, adding that the "airlines took responsibility for ensuring she got safely on each plane segment during her journey home."

He said Lenkoff flew to Lisbon, then to Toronto, and finally to San Francisco.

Thankfully, he said, Lana had sent her mom with an Apple AirTag so the family could watch Lenkoff make the trip back to the US.

The Apple product has become popular for tracking everything from missing suitcases to lost golfing equipment and a magician's sound equipment . Some parents are even using them to keep track of their children . According to Benzinga , Apple sold $1 billion worth of Airtags within two years of releasing the tracking device.

Kurt said he and Lana used the AirTag to follow Lenkoff in Lisbon as she reached her next gate.

"We were able to track her movement across the world as she was coming home, and that was a huge relief for us," he said.

Once Lenkoff arrived in California, Kurt said she was medically evacuated to the Stanford Medical Center.

"They pull her out on a gurney and this huge smile comes across her face as she sees her daughter for the first time," he told BI.

Today, Lenkoff is in critical condition

Since arriving at the hospital in California, Kurt told BI that Lenkoff has undergone numerous tests and scans. He said doctors believe she may have also had a heart attack, and while she was at the Stanford Medical Center, she experienced a second stroke.

Kurt said Lenkoff remains in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, the Gieses have continued to try to reach Norwegian. Kurt said two junior staffers have reached out to learn more about what happened, but he said no one from the cruise line had taken responsibility for not contacting Lenkoff's emergency contacts.

Kurt said the experience has taught him and his family that they should not rely on cruise companies to keep passengers safe.

Kurt heard from the Campbells that the group made it back on the ship on Wednesday. When everyone is healthy and back in the US, he said they plan to meet with the Campbells to thank them.

"We truly believe that our mother would've died had she been left to her own devices," Kurt said. "The Campbells are now members of our family. They are the true heroes of this story."
