IS A WORLD OF WONDER
Some destinations beckon like our favorite dreams, ones we keep on a ‘bucket list’ either spoken or secret, imagined or real. Now is the opportunity to take hold of those places you’ve fantasized about since childhood, when pure wonder filled the world. Come aboard and experience locales so numerous, so desirable, so one-of-a-kind that by the end of your journey, you'll need to start dreaming anew. Consider one of the world’s most mystical destinations, Easter Island. Nearly 500 years ago, on a tiny speck of land nearly 2,300 miles from the Chilean coast, the inhabitants of Rapa Nui carved massive megaliths called Moai. Questions have abounded since a Dutch explorer gave Easter Island its name in 1722, and you’ll no doubt be searching for clues as you explore this fascinating place. In the Indian Ocean, off the coasts of Sri Lanka and India, sits another speck of land that beckons world travelers as a truly unique destination. Malé (pronounced maa-lah) is the capital of the Maldives, a small island nation known for laid-back beach vibes and white-sand resorts. Malé, by contrast, is a hub of activity, dotted with brightly colored buildings and bustling cafes. An overnight stay guarantees you’ll gain an appreciation for authentic Maldivian life before continuing onward. Just north of South Africa in the Mozambique Channel, Maputo awaits with jacaranda-lined avenues and Mediterranean-style architecture that make it one of Africa’s most beloved capitals. Founded as a port city by the Portuguese, Maputo is Mozambique’s sparkling, cosmopolitan jewel. It's an evolving city that you’ll recall long after Seven Seas Mariner ® carries you and your fellow travelers around the African coast.

IS WILDLIFE YOU’VE ONLY DREAMED OF
From the green, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles found in the waters off George Town to the tropical parrots that populate the artsy urbanscape of Barcelona, you’ll encounter a cross-section of wildlife that very few get to experience in person. In Manta, you’ll hear howler monkeys before you see them. Found in nature reserves and animal sanctuaries, the distinctive monkeys emit sounds that range from a grumpy German shepherd to a baby’s cry to a low, haunting moan resounding through the verdant trees. Bird lovers will find hummingbirds, yellow-rumped cacique, speckled chachalaca and spectacled owls flittering in the tropical canopy. There’s truly no comparison to seeing the tremendous variety of marsupials, birds and reptiles of Australia in person. Visit animal sanctuaries near Darwin, and get up-close to kangaroos, koalas and wallabies, as well as Aussie birds like parrots, cockatoos, lorikeets, doves and rosellas. As Darwin is in Australia’s tropical Northern Territory, there’s plenty of crocodiles to be found there, too. Though a bustling commercial hub, Colombo has wildlife sanctuaries where you can see lemurs, monkeys, apes, the Sri Lankan leopard, African lion and Bengal tiger, plus African and Asian elephants. Exotic varieties of herons, crakes, pelicans, coots and ibis abound at local bird sanctuaries. The renowned Big 5 of South African wildlife — lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and Cape buffalo — may be found in proximity to an out-of-the-way port city like Richards Bay, which is also one of South Africa’s top water bird areas.

IS A TRUE SEAFARING ADVENTURE
The lure of long-distance travel upon immense bodies of water is as old as humankind itself. Painters, poets and songwriters have long drawn inspiration from the appeal, the challenge and the mystery of what awaits beyond the horizons of blue, green and turquoise seas. Dr. Samuel Johnson famously wrote, "When a man comes to like a sea life, he is not fit to live on land." When pushing off from the Port of Miami, we’re certain you’ll quickly adapt to the sanguine pace of life at sea. It may be true, as novelist Joseph Conrad wrote, that “He who loves the sea loves also the ship’s routine.” But open water also fuels a desire for adventure, and you’ll find it as you transit one of the 20th-century’s greatest technological achievements — the Panama Canal — before entering the world's largest expanse of water, the mighty Pacific Ocean. As you settle into ocean life, be prepared for a soaring of the spirit. It may come while standing on your balcony, morning coffee in hand, watching diamonds of sunlight sparkle on a sea that stretches to never-ending horizons. Or it may be fired by the rhythms and sweet smells that welcome you to the South Pacific islands of French Polynesia. Mythic, heavenly, verdant — exactly as you’d expect yet shockingly sublime — a people and place you’ll never forget on your journey of a lifetime. As you’ll joyously discover, this pattern is repeated. Hypnotic, almost addicting days and nights aboard Seven Seas Mariner ® , peppered with the excitement of what awaits at the next port of call. Heading south through the Coral Sea, watching for the spectacular Australian coast while navigating the Great Barrier Reef. Visiting a wish-list of cities that ring the South China Sea. Island hopping in the Indian Ocean. Crossing the fabled Arabian Sea on your way to the Gulf of Oman. Rounding the southern tip of South Africa, where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic.
All told, a seafaring adventure as majestic as any ocean.

TROPICAL OASES AWAIT
Perhaps the greatest reward for embarking on our world cruise is discovering destinations so off the beaten path that they seem barely touched by travelers. Nowhere is this reward more striking than at the dozens of tropical ports boasting calming blue waters, glistening strips of white sand, verdant slopes and friendly locals. While this description fits any of the French Polynesian ports of call that precede it, Pago Pago conjures images of a South Pacific steeped in lore and legend. Tutuila is home to the bustling fishing town of Pago Pago, which sits on a jaw-dropping harbor created by a submerged crater that collapsed millions of years ago. Authentic Samoan traditions thrive in this island nation that’s believed to be the birthplace of Polynesian culture. Their proud spirit will fortify you long after leaving. Now, close your eyes and envision an ‘island paradise’. Open your eyes and you’re in the Seychelles, roughly 950 miles east of Africa in the Indian Ocean. La Digue, the third largest of the country’s 115 islands, features endless coves of pristine beaches and barely a hint of development. Some of the most popular beaches are reached only by foot, and bicycles are the most practical form or transportation. Sitting off the coast of Southeast Africa, Mayotte is a truly offbeat destination. You’ll find one of the largest and deepest lagoons in the world, a breathtaking volcanic range running the length of the island and a culture ripe with regional history and a vibrant blend of local influences. It's an inspiring port of call that provides a question you can pose to fellow world travelers back home: “Sure, you’ve been around… but have you seen Mayotte?”

ARE MODERN CITIES STEEPED
IN ANCIENT TRADITIONS
By traveling so far and wide, this epic voyage visits a collection of cities and countries that have developed over time and across waves of conquest, destruction and renaissance. Many of these destinations are home to UNESCO World Heritage sites that allow you to gain a hands-on appreciation for the heritage and history that came before. Spanish colonial architecture competes with skyscrapers in Manila, where you’ll find one of the four Baroque Churches of the Philippines , a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993. Located in Intramuros, Manila’s walled Old City, the 16th-century San Agustin Church fuses European design with local materials that created a new tradition of church-building in the Philippines. Penang has long been a crossroads of east and west culture and today it boasts a thriving arts scene and colorful carnivals. The well-preserved heritage buildings of Penang’s capital, George Town, were designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2008. Unlike other sites called out for their historical significance, George Town remains a diverse and thriving blend of old and new. Halfway between Gibraltar and Barcelona, the port city of Alicante is known for its glistening architecture, medieval castle and predictably buzzing nightlife (this is Spain, after all). It’s also home to Palmeral of Elche, a haven of date palm trees that was originally laid out during the construction of the Muslim city of Elche in the 10th century AD, when the bulk of the Iberian Peninsula was Arab. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000. With over 200,000 palm trees, it’s a perfect oasis to wander within as you ponder your world cruise, which will draw to a close in Barcelona.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises fleet
Seven seas grandeur, seven seas splendor, seven seas explorer, seven seas voyager, seven seas mariner, seven seas navigator, review of regent seven seas cruises.
Regent Cruises (officially RSSC-Regent Seven Seas Cruises, rssc.com ) is a top-luxury cruise line and trademarked travel brand (fka "Radisson Seven Seas"). RSSC's current owner is NCLH (Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings) - also the owner of the subsidiaries / sister-brands NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line and Oceania Cruises . RSSC's headquarters address is "1000 Corporate Drive, Suite 500, Fort Lauderdale, FL, 33334 USA".
The RSSC ships are medium-size top luxury passenger ships, with a capacity of up to 700 guests each, all 6-star rated all-suite all-balcony vessels. Regent offers a generous space-to-guest ratio of over 70, and a staff-to-guest ratio of 1/1,6 - some of the best ratios in the industry. Regent cruise ships offer some of the world's best, all-inclusive luxury cruise deals. These are also among the most expensive cruise vessels in the world.
All Regent ships are named with the prefix "Seven Seas", connotating all the world's oceans. The name is a most proper one, especially for the Voyager - an ex-USSR's Navy ice-class ship-to-be. Bought as a hull, she is now one of the most recognizable top luxury passenger ships, sailing all the Seven Seas of the World.
The Regent brand serves a clientele of predominantly affluent, middle-aged and older travelers, who expect a quiet and relaxing atmosphere and sophistication on board. The brand line is the epitome for impeccable service of the highest standards. RSSC's all-inclusive vacation packages offer care-free world cruising in an ambiance of luxury, quality, and value.
RSSC is well-appreciated also as one of the best cruise brands for families celebrating anniversaries and birthdays. The top-luxury RSSC ships enjoy some of the highest passenger loyalty rates.
On June 6, 2022, NCLH announced an expansion of its fleetwide sustainability program "Sail & Sustain". Extending its animal welfare policy, the shipowner is now fully committed to responsible animal food sourcing practices (regarding pork, chicken, eggs, and seafood) within the global fleet's supply chain. The goal is by the year 2025, fleetwide (NCL, Oceania, Regent) to be sourced only cage-free eggs, crate-free pork, certified sustainable seafood, and chicken purchased from American and Canadian suppliers who meet GAP (Global Animal Partnership) standards.
In late-June 2022, RSSC announced a new Italian menu to be introduced in November 2023 (on the newbuild Grandeur ) and later rolled out fleetwide. The new menu (developed for the Italian restaurant chain Sette Mari) includes items like Bruschetta al pomodoro (tomato), Cavatelli ai frutti di mare (filled pasta), Zucchini alla poverella, Insalata di Panzanella (bread salad) alla Masseria Salamina (17th-century castle in Fasano), Cozze gratinate al forno (stuffed mussels), Branzino in agrodolce (spigola in sweet-and-sour sauce), Pasticcini alla mandorle (Sicilian baked sweets), Chef Nino's Cioppino (fish stew), focaccia con pomodorini (Italian flat bread made with olive oil and flavoured with herbs).
Since January 2023, RSSC's President is Andrea DeMarco, who succeeded Jason Montague. Regent's and Oceania's Presidents both report to NCL's President (currently Harry Sommer).
In 2023 was launched the "Epicurean Perfection" culinary program grouping specially curated "Epicurean Spotlight Voyages". On select sailings, RSSC schedules food & wine-themed shipboard and land-based events like culinary-themed land tours and onboard cooking classes, tastings and food & wine pairings hosted by celebrity chefs and held at the ship's specialty restaurants.
Ship refurbishments
In January 2016, an USD 125 million drydock refurbishment plan was revealed for 3 ships in the RSSC fleet. The aim was to bring the vessels in line with the new Seven Seas Explorer (launched in 2016). The 2-year fleet upgrade plan started with the smallest 490-passenger Seven Seas Navigator (April 2016). Seven Seas Voyager was next (2016), followed by Seven Seas Mariner (2017).
The list of numerous onboard renovations included refurbishing of most public spaces, a complete redesign of all staterooms, ship technology, and equipment upgrades. After the fleet renovation program was completed, RSSC started offering free unlimited Internet and Wi-Fi to all cruise passengers (regardless of cabin categories).
As a top-luxury, all-inclusive cruise line, RSSC provides deals inclusive of beverages (including fine wines and premium spirits) and all-inclusive cruise fares (with roundtrip airfare, shore excursions, gratuities included). The line's newly expanded shore excursions program offers complimentary 3-night land tours in new locations (Cape Town South Africa, Hong Kong, and Beijing China, Angkor Wat Cambodia). The experience features African safaris, China's Great Wall, an elephant camp in Thailand.
On February 11, 2019, RSSC announced its partnership with Vero Water (eco-friendly bottled water supplier) to eliminate all single-use plastic bottles fleetwide. In the period April-June 2019, all Regent cruise liners were outfitted with Vero Water (onboard purification) systems eliminating ~2 million plastic bottles annually. Project's implementation schedule for 2019 included the ships Voyager (April 5), Explorer (April 8), Mariner (June 5) and Navigator (June 18). All RSSC cruise customers are provided complimentary with re-useable Vero Water bottles (Regent-branded, 1 per person) to be used ashore and after the voyage to take home as a souvenir.
Follows a list of common features regarding the RSSC line's vessels:

In 2019, RSSC introduced fleetwide an innovative plant-based menu items. Naturally, the upgraded shipboard menus target mainly vegetarian and vegan passengers. The new dishes include:
- Wild Mushroom Tart with Brittle Pie Crust, Red Pepper Coulis and Mushroom Duxelles
- Falafel Fritters with Harissa Mayo, Mint, Capers, and Cucumber

According to statistics, 9 of 10 plant-based meals are eaten by no-vegans, and luxury travelers are increasingly interested in plant-based fare. RSSC's 200 plant-based food selections are integrated into ship's daily menus, instead of listed on separate menus. The offerings were developed by the company's VP of Food and Beverage - Bernhard Klotz, in cooperation with celebrity chef Christophe Berg.

RSSC cruises to Cuba
RSSC was the only North American luxury travel brand that was granted permission to offer cruises to Cuba. More visits to the unique Caribbean island country were added for season 2020, but the schedule was canceled due to the pandemic.
Note: According to the current Cuban law, US citizens of Cuban origin (born in Cuba) are not allowed to visit the island country (including on cruise ships). Regardless of their US citizenship status, Cuban-born Americans were denied booking on cruise itineraries visiting ports in Cuba. However, the situation changed in April 2016, after Carnival Corporation negotiated with the Cuban government for allowing ships with Cuban-born passengers, as such US citizens are allowed to visit the country on USA-Cuba charter flights. The Carnival-fathom line started Miami to Cuba cruises in May 2016.
Alaska Airlines offers regular nonstop flights to Havana from Los Angeles (California USA). An 80-min ling JetBlue flight from Fort Lauderdale (Florida) to Havana costs less than USD 100. Previously, air travel from the USA to Cuba was thought charter flights only.

Travel + Leisure Readers' 10 Favorite River Cruise Lines of 2023
Readers had high praise for the incredible service and interesting itineraries on these river cruise lines in our annual "World’s Best Awards" survey for 2023.
Paul Brady is the news director at Travel + Leisure and the brand's expert on cruise travel. He has been covering the travel industry for more than 15 years for outlets including Condé Nast Traveler , Skift , and The Huffington Post .
How Voting Works
What readers loved, the full list.

A river cruise might just be the best way to see the world. Though many well-traveled readers have yet to hop aboard a river ship, those that have return home with high praise for this unique style of exploring. It makes sense: river cruises allow for slow and thoughtful enjoyment of a destination, while onboard amenities offer the kind of luxury found in five-star hotels. And it’s not just Europe: this year’s award winners have a global outlook, with operations on the Continent, yes, but also in Egypt, Southeast Asia, South America, and even closer to home in the U.S.
Every year for our World's Best Awards survey, Travel + Leisure asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Nearly 165,000 T+L readers completed the 2023 survey, an increase of nearly 25 percent over pre-pandemic voting levels. A total of more than 685,000 votes were cast across over 8,500 unique properties (hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
For the cruise category, respondents were asked to rate individual ships; the results were separated by ocean cruises and river cruises.
Ships were specifically rated on the criteria below:
- Cabins/facilities
- Itineraries/destinations
- Excursions/activities
For each characteristic, respondents could choose a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final scores are averages of these responses.
No. 2 Tauck held steady compared to last year, as voters praised the line for its faultless service and interesting itineraries. Its newest ship, Andorinha, launched in 2021 on the Douro River of Portugal, which is in huge demand among travelers these days. Another line that’s making waves is No. 4 Viking, which added a couple of intriguing river ships in 2022: one, Viking Osiris, sails Egypt’s Nile River; another, Viking Mississippi, travels between St. Paul, Minnesota, and New Orleans. “We loved our trip with Viking,” one voter wrote. “My husband had resisted going on a cruise for years, but now, after our sail on the Danube River, he’s hooked.”
Moving up several spots from its 2022 ranking was No. 3 Grand Circle Cruise Line, which offers value-minded itineraries across Europe. “My wife and I have been on seven of their ships on 10 different trips since 2004,” said one devotee. “Like all of those ships, River Aria is comfortable, clean, serves fantastic food, and has a great staff.”
Another surprise was this year’s top river cruise line: Aqua Expeditions rose from the fourth spot in 2022 to take the crown as the world’s best river cruise line this year. Read on for more on why it impressed.
Aqua Expeditions

The brand’s three river ships are anything but ordinary: Aqua Mekong takes travelers on epic adventures in Cambodia and Vietnam, with temple touring and more recent history both on the agenda. Meanwhile Aqua Nera and Aria Amazon navigate the Peruvian stretch of this legendary river. All three vessels, none with more than 20 suites, offer a sense of privacy and exclusivity that’s nearly impossible to find short of chartering one’s own yacht . “It was just amazing,” marveled one guest, who traveled aboard the Aqua Nera , which entered service in 2021. Food is another focus for the line, which has partnered with the Peruvian chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, an expert on Amazonian ingredients, for culinary-minded voyages this year.

Sumptuous escapes at sea
Some Oceania Cruises suites have walk-in closets and grand pianos
No expense has been spared when it comes to suite decor on luxury ships. For ultimate opulence, opt for the Owner’s suites which you’ll find on Oceania Cruises ' ships. These cover 1,991 square feet, have two walk-in closets and entrance foyers with a grand piano and a mahogany bar. A 15-day Svalbard & Arctic Passage cruise with accommodation in the Grand Owner’s suite costs from $23,044 per person.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Explorer had a big design budget
We’re increasingly seeing bigger budgets for ships’ decor. Huge amounts of cash are being splashed on sprucing up interiors, and one example of this decadence is Regent Seven Seas Cruises ' Seven Seas Explorer, which has 473 Swedish-designed chandeliers, 45,876 square feet of marble, Versace-designed dinnerware, crystal glasses from Eastern Europe and a $12 million art collection which includes several Picassos.
Orient Express is set to launch a seriously luxurious ship
After launching the world’s most luxurious train 140 years ago, Orient Express will launch an opulent ship to match. Orient Express Silenseas, which will take to the waves in 2026, will have 54 suites (including a 15,231-square-foot Presidential Suite), two swimming pools, two restaurants and a speakeasy bar. Oh, and a recording studio. Prices are to be confirmed (but will inevitably be eye-watering).
Windstar Cruises’ Star Legend offers themed suites
Sail on Windstar Cruises’ Star Legend and you can book a suite inspired by exotic destinations and hotels. We recommend the suite inspired by the Sea Island resort in Georgia. Expect ocean-inspired colourways and plenty of sea-glass green. A Treasures of the Greek Isles cruise with Windstar starts from $3,745 per person.

There are butlers onboard with a Silversea cruise
Book a sailing with Silversea and you’re guaranteed your own butler. They'll be on hand to help with everything from the unpacking of luggage to the opening of the Champagne bottles. They’re not just any butlers, either – they’ve undertaken a 108-point training programme created for the cruise line by the London-based School for Butlers. An 11-day Mediterranean Cruise in 2024 costs from $8,092 per person.
You can go beneath the ocean's surface with Scenic Cruises
An abundance of onboard kit means that luxury ships don’t just help passengers get to the world’s most remote places – they help them get below the waves and into the skies too. Take Scenic Cruises – their Scenic Eclipse ship recently became the first vessel to offer both helicopter flights and submarine dives in the Canadian Arctic. An Antarctica in Depth cruise costs from $16,310 per person.
Seven Seas Grandeur has in-suite spas
Love a session in the spa but value your personal space? Book Regent Seven Seas Cruises ’ Regent Suite, which you’ll find on Seven Seas Grandeur, due to launch in November 2023. Highlights include the two enormous bedrooms and the whirlpool bath on the balcony, although the pièce de resistance is the suite’s very own spa retreat.

You can sleep under the stars with the SeaDream Yacht Club
Set sail on one of SeaDream Yacht Club ’s yacht-style vessels and you’ll be able to spend a night under the stars. At night, staff transform the upper deck’s huge Balinese day beds by adding luxurious bed linens and fluffy pillows, allowing you to drift off to the sound of the ocean. Expect to pay around $3,700 for a seven-day cruise.
SeaDream Yacht Club has one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios at sea
Some cruise lines offer boats on boats
Zodiacs – small, fast boats carried on ships – make it easy to explore different landscapes, whether it’s the frozen tundra or the Galapagos’ wildlife-dotted islands. Special mentions go to Quark , which uses environmentally friendly four-stroke engine zodiacs; Silversea , famous for its expert-led zodiac excursions, and AE Expeditions – the line’s new expedition ship Sylvia Earle has 15 zodiacs. A seven-day Spitsbergen sailing with Quark costs from $5,547.
Aurora Expeditions and AE Expeditions ships have science laboratories onboard
If peering at distant shorelines through binoculars doesn’t cut it, sign up for a sailing with Aurora Expeditions or AE Expeditions . AE Expeditions ships have tech-filled laboratories and lecture theaters, making it easy to gain new perspectives on the destinations in question. Guests can contribute to a wide range of research projects, including ones relating to micro-plastics and sea life. A 15-day Svalbard In Depth sailing starts from $12,137 per person.
You can have your very own Dom Perignon Experience on Oceania Cruises’ Vista ship
Is spaciousness a priority? Consider Oceania Cruises . Their newest ship Vista (which set sail in May 2023) is tipped as having the largest entry-level staterooms at sea (280 square feet, if you were wondering). We’re equally excited about the Dom Perignon Experience – during this six-course extravaganza you’ll sip Dom Perignon Champagnes chosen to suit the various dishes. A 10-day Bangkok to Singapore cruise starts from $5,335 per person.
Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Flora has a stargazing platform
Celebrity Cruises ’ Celebrity Flora, which has space for just 100 passengers and is based permanently in the Galapagos Islands, is a pint-sized ship that can effortlessly access the areas other vessels can’t reach. But our favorite feature is the stargazing platform. Head here for stargazing sessions led by the ship’s onboard astronomer. You’ll pay from $7,796 for a Galapagos Inner Loop sailing on Celebrity Flora.
The naming ceremonies are often spectacular
Simply swinging a bottle against the side of a ship is so passé. In January 2023 Viking christened new luxury ship Viking Neptune. The ship’s godmother Nicole Stott (a retired NASA astronaut) used a traditional Viking broad ax to cut the rope, which sent a bottle of fizz smashing into the ship. A 13-day Mediterranean Odyssey cruise with Viking costs $5,911.
Your Abercrombie & Kent guide might be a famous explorer
Abercrombie & Kent Luxury Expedition Cruises – previously known as Crystal Cruises – are famous for their onboard experts. The cruise line’s expedition leaders include explorer James McClintock, recipient of the Antarctica Service Medal, and former Royal Marine Commando Russ Manning, who served as base commander in the South Orkneys and earned the Polar Medal. A 14-night Arctic Cruise Adventure with Abercrombie & Kent costs from $17,922.
You no longer have to wear a ball gown to dinner
You can ride on a magic carpet with Celebrity Cruises
Okay, not the type ridden by Aladdin. We’re talking about Celebrity Cruises’ Magic Carpet – a cantilevered platform which appears to float in thin air, and which glides up and down the side of Celebrity Edge, one of the cruise line’s most luxurious ships. Depending on what level it stops at, the Magic Carpet can become a restaurant, bar or nightclub, although the one constant is breathtaking views.

There are luxury ships you can live on
Dread disembarkation day? Why not simply stay onboard? No, we’re not suggesting claiming squatters’ rights at the end of your cruise, but splashing out on a cabin on The World , described by its owners as a luxury private residence at sea. There are 165 residences available for purchase and the ship sails around the planet – in 2023 it will visit South Asia, the Middle East, the Iberian Peninsula, Greenland, South America and Antarctica. Some residents live on the ship full-time, while others visit throughout the year, and residences start at around $1.2m.

You can learn firsthand about the Polar regions
Luxury cruise lines are going all out to provide fascinating insights into the explorers who first mapped these regions. In 2024, Scenic will launch several East Antarctic cruises focusing on the routes taken by explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. If you sail through the Arctic on Ponant’s Le Commandant Charcot (the world’s only luxury ice breaker), a team of 23 polar experts will help you gain a whole new perspective on these remote regions.

You need to book well in advance
If you’re planning on a bucket list-worthy sailing on one of the more luxurious ships, you’ll need to bag your spot early on. Take Azamara’s World Voyage , a 155-night, 37-country sailing which takes place in 2024 and is currently sold out (there’s a waiting list of passengers hoping for cancellations). Luckily, spots on the 2025 World Voyage are still available – if you’ve got a minimum of $42,622 to spare.

Subscriber only, travel | 8 new ships coming to norwegian cruise line, sister brands plus dock at great stirrup cay.
The parent company to Norwegian Cruise Line announced Monday a major order for eight new ships among its three brands as well as the construction of a pier to allow its cruise ships to dock instead of tender to its private Bahamas island for the first time.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings said it was planning to bring on four new ships for NCL, two new ships for upper premium brand Oceania Cruises and two ships for luxury brand Regent Seven Seas, all to be built at Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and debut during a 10-year run from 2026-2036.
The NCL ships would be the largest ever built for the line at around 200,000 gross tons and capacity of about 5,000 guests. They won’t arrive until after the final delivery of its Prima-Plus class ships expected between 2025-2028, the larger sister ships to the Norwegian Prima and Viva that debuted in the last couple of years. The four ships from the unnamed class of vessel would arrive in 2030, 2032, 2034 and 2036.
The new class for Oceania Cruises, which in 2023 debuted its first new ship in more than a decade — the Oceania Allura — will also be the largest ever built for the line at 86,000 gross tons and a capacity of 1,450 guests. They’re expected in 2027 and 2029.
And the Regent Seven Seas fleet’s new vessels will also be larger coming in at 77,000 gross tons with a capacity of 850 guests. They’re expected in 2026 and 2029. Regent just debuted the third of its Explorer class ships in December 2023.
“This strategic new-ship order across all three of our award-winning brands provides for the steady introduction of cutting-edge vessels into our fleet and solidifies our long-term growth,” said NCLH president and CEO Harry Sommer in a press release. “It also allows us to significantly leverage our operating scale, strengthen our commitment to innovation and enhance our ability to offer our guests new products and experiences, all while providing opportunities to enhance the efficiency of our fleet.”
No other details about the ships were released. Financing is already in place to fund 80% of the cost for the four ships among the Oceania and Regent orders, but financing for the four NCL ships is not finalized.
The eight ships expects to add 25,000 more to the three cruise lines’ passenger capacity.
In addition, the line is set to construct a multi-ship pier at Great Stirrup Cay, the popular Bahamas private destination visited by all three brands. The move follows the introduction of a dock that can support two Oasis-class vessels at neighboring Perfect Day at Coco Cay for Royal Caribbean while other private Bahamas destinations including Disney’s Castaway Cay and its new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point feature tenderless docks for easy access.
“We are likewise excited with the addition of a new pier at Great Stirrup Cay to support our increased capacity in the Caribbean and multiple ships to call on the island, enhancing our guest experience and bringing seamless and reliable access to our private island year-round,” Sommer said.
