Prior to the U.S. run, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will embark on a tour of Europe in the spring for more stadium dates with METALLICA on the latter act's "M72" world tour in addition to headlining shows with special guest ICE NINE KILLS and select appearances at major festivals.

The digital deluxe edition of "AfterLife" , FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH 's critically acclaimed ninth studio album, will arrive on April 5 via Better Noise Music . The deluxe version will include the original 12 tracks recorded with the band's longtime producer Kevin Churko ( OZZY OSBOURNE ) in addition to four bonus tracks: three acoustic versions of the album's songs "The End" , "Judgement Day" and "Thanks For Asking" plus a brand new song, "This Is The Way" , featuring the late rapper DMX . An official music video for "This Is The Way (Featuring DMX)" is directed by none other than highly influential filmmaker Hype Williams , a longtime friend and close collaborator of the late DMX . Hailed by The New York Times in 2024 as "The Nineties Wunderkind," Hype Williams is known for his seminal work with luminaries like Tupac , Wu-Tang Clan and Jay-Z , among others. The video will be released to coincide with the deluxe edition of "AfterLife" on April 5.

"AfterLife" is FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH 's first album with its latest addition, renowned British virtuoso Andy James , who replaced Jason Hook in 2020. James was previously featured on "Broken World" , a song that was included on the second installment of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH 's greatest-hits collection, "A Decade Of Destruction – Volume 2" , which came out in the fall of 2020.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH played its first show as the support act for METALLICA on the "M72" tour on August 6, 2023 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH was originally supposed to support METALLICA on several European shows last spring but ended up canceling the dates in order to allow singer Ivan Moody to fully recover from a hernia surgery.

Manson has faced a number of legal obstacles in recent years, including being sued by several women with allegations of sexual and other abuse. Some of those lawsuits have been dismissed or settled.

Last September, Manson , whose legal name is Brian Warner , was sentenced to 20 hours of community service and a fine after pleading no contest to blowing his nose on a videographer at a 2019 concert in New Hampshire.

In legal documents filed in November 2022, Marilyn confirmed he was dropped by his record label, Loma Vista Recordings , and talent agency CAA , and claimed to have been "excluded from Hollywood social and business gatherings."

Manson went on to say that his music was suffering, he couldn't tour, he couldn't release his book, his paintings had been "devalued" and his art shows had been "indefinitely postponed."

Manson said his "false portrayal as a rapist, abuser, and child pornographer" had also caused him to lose two acting roles, Starz series "American Gods" and Paramount+ series "The Stand" .

Over 2005 and 2006, the heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch formed in Las Vegas, NV. Its initial lineup included former U.p.o. bassist Zoltan Bathory, on rhythm guitar, Jeremy Spencer on drums, Matt Snell joined on bass, and Motograter veteran Ivan Moody on vocals.

Caleb Bingham joined the band as a second guitarist, but was soon replaced by Darrell Roberts.

The same year, Five Finger Death Punch signed a record deal with Firm Music to produce its first album, The Way of the Fist. The album got a slow start, entering the Billboard 200 chart at number 199. However, it soon went on to sell over half a million copies in the U.S. alone. Five Finger Death Punch then embarked on its first major tour as a supporting act for Korn’s Family Values Tour.

Five Finger Death Punch returned to the road in 2008 as a supporting act on Disturbed’s Indestructible Tour. In May that year, the band re-released The Way of the Fist with three bonus tracks. At the beginning of 2009, Roberts left and was replaced by Jason Hook.

Five Finger Death Punch’s popularity rose with the release of its second studio album War is the Answer in September 2009. It debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 chart and sold over 40,000 copies in the first week. The album produced six singles, including the chart-topper, “Hard to See.” It went on to sell over one million copies and is now certified platinum by the RIAA. To promote the record, Five Finger Death Punch embarked on its first headlining tour, The Shock and Raw Tour.

Five Finger Death Punch began recording its third studio album in November 2010. Snell then decided to leave the band and was replaced by Chris Kael the following June.

In October 2011, Five Finger Death Punch released its third album, American Capitalist. It was the most successful release to date. The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart and sold over 90,000 copies in its first week. It is now certified platinum by the RIAA.

In 2013, Five Finger Death Punch announced its upcoming fourth and fifth albums. The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell was released as two separate volumes.

Volume 1 dropped in June 2014, climbing to number two on the Billboard 200 chart. It sold over 100,000 copies in its first week. Volume 2 followed that September, also landing a number two spot on the same chart. It sold 77,000 copies in the first week.

Five Finger Death Punch announced the release of its sixth record in 2015. The band spent much of the year touring with Papa Roach to promote its upcoming album, Got Your Six, which dropped in September that year. Got Your Six debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and was the top-selling album of the week.

In 2018, Five Finger Death Punch released its seventh studio album, And Justice for None. It includes a cover of “Gone Away” by The Offspring. All four of these albums went on to be certified platinum and gold, making Five Finger Death Punch one of the most successful metal bands of the decade.

Five Finger Death Punch’s eighth record, F8, arrived in February 2020, followed by its ninth studio album, AfterLife in August 2022.

The band currently consists of Zoltan Bathory on rhythm guitar, Ivan Moody on lead vocals, Chris Kael on bass, Charlie Engen on drums, and Andy James on lead guitar.

Catch the band live now on its AfterLife Tour.

Live reviews

Didn’t see them, but I’m certain the venue did them no justice.

I drove 3 hours in hopes of seeing the four bands at the Salem Civic center. The lineup was Bad Wolves, Starset, Shinedown and Five Finger Death Punch.

First, I did some research. Concert photography means a lot to me, especially to be present and capture the moments I loved the most. I scoured the Ticketmaster app I used to purchase my ticket, the Salem Civic Center website, and even reached out to their public Facebook page to verify if there were any prohibited items. I received no response and found no list of prohibited items, so I brought my camera. It’s a d5100, and while it’s on the nicer end of the consumer cameras, it is by no means considered a professional camera. It cost me less than $500, and I’ve had it for 4 years now.

Fast forward. I arrived 15 mins before doors opened, and the line wrapped around the entire facility. I waited in line for an hour plus, only to be told at the door my camera was professional because the lens detached and I had to take it back to my car. There were NO PROHIBITED ITEMS SIGNS POSTED ANYWHERE. As a result, I missed all but two of the first band’s songs. When I finally got into the venue I was disappointed, to say the least; while it was air conditioned, it was nothing more than a high school to collegiate basketball court with bleachers.

I’ve been to concerts frequently, and I have heard Starset, Shinedown, and FFDP perform live within the last year (2 weeks for the latter two). The audio I heard within the venue was awful. Bad Wolves was highly echoey for the songs I did hear; and Starset’s audio levels were not where they should have been, and made it hard for the vocalist to sustain his normal volume and pitch levels with the dual microphone system he uses. Special effects and guitar, drums and strings were fine; but for both bands I noticed the vocals were off substantially. Starset has an augmented reality feature for their concerts which I was excited to download; however, by the time my LTE finally got the app, the AR “QR” code was unavailable and the AR experience wouldn’t boot up.

To make things worse, I didn’t even have a chance to purchase merchandise for Starset (my primary reason for attending). There was no merch available for the band- and it was made obvious that Starset was an afterthought to the lineup.

I left after Starset finished their performance. I had to repeat to the security employee that I was leaving three times. Leaving, as in permanently. I then had 3 hours to reflect on my choices.

I will not be going back to the SCC.

Last summer I finally pulled my shit together and got sober from heroin. My goal? See ffdp up close and personal. Of course, Breaking Benjamin was fuckin' fabulous. I just was craving me some angry Moody :) I forked out the extra cash in hopes that I could exchange a look with the man and offer to buy him coffee, chilli or something like a good Cincinnati girl would do. Oh, but no. Fate had other plans. 4 fuckin' songs into the set I walked away from my front row spot fading in and out of consciousness from a growing excruciating pain in my side. I black out, hit the ground and I was being wheeled away by security during "Remember everything." Stupid ass kidney stones.. Ruined. From what I heard it was sex to my ear drums and the entire band can ear sex me anytime. I WILL meet ya'll someday and shake your hands and kiss your faces. You've got me through some of the darkest times in my life. I hope this story reaches one of you and puts a smile on your face and shows you that there are little small town girls like me that get a little turned on by short bald guys that scream :)

If you ever wanna come eat chilli off of me I MEAN EAT CHILLI WITH ME, Ivan.. Have your people contact my people :)

Oh yeah, I'm THAT GIRL!

So fuckin' what?

This group sounds fantastic on their recordings but sound just as rockin in concert. Ivan Moody is Mr. Entertainer and continuously wows the crowd with his sarcasm, humor, and invitation to his fans that they are "family".

He recognizes the military and shows support. However, with the crazy and tragic fires going on, one north of Sacramento, and one south of Sacramento, he invited first responders and firefighters to the concert for free. So this metal rock band has some real class and respect.

The lights and glitter and fire, and the large skull has the total package of a kick ass metal band, and it delivers a punch, a FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH!

Ivan is great with the kids on stage, and gives them something to remember.

He sounds great, and your bonuses are Jason, Chris, and Jeremy Oh yeah....they frickin' rock! Talented! Jason and your strumming on your 12 string while he rises above the crown, and wow they all have talent. This band fits together quite well. They don't have the mightier than thou attitude, and show appreciation and love for their audience. They stuck around after the concert throwing out paraphernalia.

If you haven't seen them yet and know their music, GO SEE THEM! It is totally worth it!

Signed a true knucklehead

Aug-18- Xfinity Centre Mansfield MI,

Bad Wolves went on stage and it rained throughout their set... they still played a great show. Nothing compares came on after them ... they were ok, their sound needed some work.. there was too much gain during most of their songs. Breaking Benjamin then tore the place apart but for the first 3 songs you could hear the " Low volume feed back.. Rudy had to point this out ... whoever was running the sound board should have been kicked off then, the problems with sound continued until the end/ Also why was BB given more stage time than the 5FDP... If BB was headlining on this night , they should have gone on last. Five Finger Death Punch came on at 10:05... from the get go they were having issues with their ear pieces and throughout most songs you could hear the feedback. Never mind Ivan having to tell the guy operating the spotlight to get it out of his eyes. On a technical side the show sucked. Besides the fact that BB had 1 hour and 15 minutes and 5FDP only had 54 minutes on stage. Xfinity is not near a residential area, they should not be handing out $7,500 worth off fines to band for going over 1 minute... All in all i give this show a 6 out of 10 !

Out of the approximately 50 concerts I’ve been to in the past 10 years, Five Finger Death Punch is by far my favorite live show to see. I’ve seen them live around 5 times and each time they have not disappointed.

Each show is slightly different, as all the band members are extremely apt at adapting their performances to the mood of the crowd. Rather than just getting on stage and spitting out a ho-hum set list, the band really places importance on interacting with the crowd and getting them pumped up. In addition, if you’re one who likes to take your kids to shows, you’re in for a treat. At EVERY show, the lead singer, Ivan, asks all the kids in the crowd to join him on stage during the heaviest songs so that “the big kids can show them how a moshpit is done.” So, in addition to having some of the wildest moshpits of modern rock music, you get to see what the next generation of metalheads looks like in the kids.

Even if you’re a fair-weather fan, these guys will not disappoint you. Seeing them live is truly an experience, from the amazing drum solo and light performances, to the killer guitar solos, Five Finger Death Punch is truly a class act.

For a metal band, Five Finger Death Punch perform with so much energy and enthusiasm unlike the moody persona that many of their peers conduct themselves with. Frontman Ivan Moody performs the opener 'Under and Over It' with a serious bout of aggressive energy and the rest of the band rock along with him. Zoltan Bathory whipping his hair wildly you worry he will catch it whilst intensely strumming along on his guitar.

The crowd is beside itself with excitement at the sheer ferocity in which the band conducts itself. They jump and applaud manically as the band run through a selection of cult classics and singles such as 'Remember Everything'. Despite the aggressive way in which Ivan performs the music, during breaks he is humble and clearly grateful to the fans who he thanks continuously during the show.

A great level of appreciation from both sides is felt during a Five Finger Death Punch gig. As a huge mass singalong breaks out to an unexpected cover of Oasis' 'Champagne Supernova' and both performer and audience cheer wildly at its finale. An intense rendition of 'The Bleeding' winds down a fantastically high energy gig.

All the bands were spot on put on excellent shows with awesome energy. They did everything they could to make it feel like everybody was included in the show they were doing. It was awesome to see how they recognize the vets who are willing to sacrifice everything so that we can have everything. Truly the veterans are The real heroes in America today Not the made up ones you see on TV by marvel comics. Secondly and even closer to my own heart The way Ivan brought up his sobriety and shared it with everybody and then recognized everyone in the crowd that has sobriety and told everyone that we all deserve around of applause for everything we’ve gone through to get to where were at. Was truly a special moment because so many addicts and alcoholics could feel alone in a crowd room full of people even when they’re sober that the fact that they got the spotlight for even one second is something that most of us will never forget as I myself have 20 years of sobriety this is the first time a performer has put it in the spotlight rock on Ivan.

Iv seen this band 3 times and although they play with energy they only play for about 45min to an hr as a headliner that ain't gonna cut it. Iv been to well over 100 shows and the guys that get it....get it! Slipknot I seen at Dane county Coliseum and they played for an hr and 45 min they wouldnt leave. Iron Maiden played at summer fest a couple years ago and again played for about an hr and 30 min. Slayed just played and they were on for almost 2 hrs. The list goes on and on and on. FFDP has the music and guys to play with the best of them so they need to realize when people pay 270.00 for a ticket 45 min sets are a slap in the face. I hope that this time will be different I hope they learned a thing or 2 from rob zombie and hell yeah that when you play you give them a show all or nothing. We pay big money take off of work burning vacation days book hotels and travel 4 and a half hrs to them or more. Make it worth our while. Great band one of my favorites listen to them almost every day just want to see more but then again would more even be enough....

Five Finger Death Punch was the most energetic show I have ever seen. They were appreciative of their fans, always thanking the fans and feeding off of the crowds energy, constantly becoming more energetic. At one point they brought a young boy and his grandmother up on stage. It was a birthday gift for the the young boy, on his birthday, and the grandmother was a cancer survivor. They went out of their way to honor these fans, and sing happy birthday to the boy and to several others in the crowd. They then went on to honor the military and veterans and to dedicate several songs to the military. Five Finger Death Punch is in my opinion the most honorable and respectable band out there today. While keeping true metal alive, they also make a point to show how they appreciate their fans and make an extremely fun show. I can't wait until they return to my area so I can see them again.

The show was phenomenal! This was the first concert for my children and now they are addicted. Ivan went above and beyond expectations. We were fortunate to meet him before the show, Ivan is truly the sweetest man, he really amazed me. My children will never forget the love he gave, the wonderful surprise he provided for them. Once he hit the stage the magic really played. Zoltan was perfect, Jason and Chris were great, Jeremy was awesome and Ivan was fantastic. The FFDP show was cut early but they chose to give the fans what they paid for. I will be forever grateful for Ivan spending the extra time with my family, Jason,Jeremy,Zoltan and Chris were very nice and friendly. They rocked and I didn't want the show to end. Will definitely be going again!! My children can't wait to see them again and neither can I.

Five Finger Death Punch 2024 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule

Five Finger Death Punch 2024 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule

Five Finger Death Punch is the latest heavy metal band to announce a 2024 tour! Joined by Marilyn Manson and Slaughter To Prevail , the Nevada quintet will kick off on August 2nd in Hershey, PA. They’ll stop in 25+ cities including Clarkston, MI, Denver, CO, and Phoenix, AZ before concluding on September 19th in Houston, TX.

After a busy 2023 that included opening for Metallica on their world tour and headlining more than a few international music festivals, a headlining Five Finger Death Punch tour was long overdue. They continue to support their ninth album, 2022’s AfterLife , along with more classics from the past two decades. These include “Wash It All Away,” “Blue on Black,” “House of the Rising Sun,” and “Wrong Side of Heaven,” among others known for bone-crushing guitar solos and darkly brazen lyrics.

“ Afterlife  was hands down my favorite record to make,” says Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory. “It is our ninth album so, at this point, we have legions of loyal fans, and our signature sound is more than established.” He continued saying their music “became its own island, our ground zero we operate from, and we can always come back to.” Indeed, Five Finger Death Punch has become one of the most consistent heavy metal bands in the scene, and always give fans exactly what they want.

Just listen to the singles off AfterLife , which debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 and was named as one of the standout metal albums of 2022 by countless publications. Between “Welcome to The Circus” and “Times Like These” to “Judgment Day” and the titular track, fans were treated to a thrash-worthy sonic feast. One that gave them the courage to both groove and sing along while emulating Ivan Moody’s signature gruff vocals.

The Five Finger Death Punch musical formula is one of the most tried-and-true in the metal scene, and it translates beautifully into their live shows. While they haven’t announced any plans for a new album just yet, you’ll have the time of your life at one of the best metal tours of 2024. Get your Five Finger Death Punch tickets today!

M72 World Tour

five finger tour lineup

We told you about our new album 72 Seasons , so what’s next now that we’ve escaped the studio? Hit the road, of course! You want a tour, we’ve got a tour... how about two full years worth of shows?!?!

Over the past few years, we have been so inspired by the dedication and family/community vibe of the fans who traveled to San Francisco for our recent weekend celebrations, first in 2019 with the two S&M2 shows, followed by last year’s 40th Anniversary shows. On top of that, we had a blast being a part of the 2021 Wimmer Festivals when we played two nights in one city, each with a totally different setlist. With all of that in mind, the M72 tour was born!

Starting in April of 2023, we’ll be visiting 22 different cities around the world and playing two nights in each city, with each “No Repeat Weekend” show a completely unique experience: Two totally different set lists with two different bands opening the show each night! Purchase a two-day ticket, and you won’t see the same song twice for a total of over 30 songs spanning our 40+ years of being lucky enough to make music. Most of the shows (sorry, not all - we tried!) will be on Fridays and Sundays, so we’ll be sure to have lots of extracurricular events for you to hang with fellow Metallica fans at before the shows kick-off and on the Saturday night in between.

Presented worldwide by Liquid Death and Blackened American Whiskey (in North America only), and brought to you by our friends at Live Nation, the M72 tour also launches a completely different look for us in stadiums – we’ll be in the round in the middle of the field. On top of that, the Snake Pit has been relocated to the center of the stage so that fans there will have a complete 360 view of the show. Each weekend offers a variety of Enhanced Experiences , ranging from access to a meet and greet, production and stage tour, food and beverage in the “Black Box” lounge to early entry into the venue and the aforementioned Snake Pit. The very popular “Black Laminate” is back, now known as the “I Disappear Ticket,” and is the ultimate pass for the fan who wants to run away with us for multiple weekends. Grab one of these and attend every show on your continent or in the world! For more information about Enhanced Experiences and I Disappear Tickets, visit wearesuper.co/metallica .

In keeping with the theme of two completely unique shows each weekend, we’re excited to share the stage with different bands each night, including some we have traveled with before and new friends who are joining us for the first time. Signing up for the entire adventure with us are Five Finger Death Punch, Ice Nine Kills, and MammothWVH, and some of you will see Pantera, Architects, Greta Van Fleet, or Volbeat, depending on the shows you attend. All the details are in the listing of dates below and on the individual show pages.

Two-day discounted tickets will be on sale Friday, December 2, for all shows. Fan Club presales start early on Wednesday, November 30, with various other presales beginning later that day and throughout the week. To request your Fan Club presale code, visit metallica.com/presale-code . If you cannot join us for the entire weekend, single-day tickets will be available starting January 20, 2023.

A portion of proceeds from every ticket sold will go to the band’s All Within My Hands foundation. Founded in 2017, AWMH’s efforts to assist and enrich the lives of members of the communities who have supported the band have raised nearly $13 million – providing $5.9 million in grants to career and technical education programs in the US, over $2.5 million to combat food insecurity, and more than $3.2 million to disaster relief efforts worldwide.

We cannot wait to embark on this new adventure, play some new music, and spend our weekends in ’23 and ’24 with YOU!

Show 1 Support Europe: Architects & Mammoth WVH ** Show 2 Support Europe: Five Finger Death Punch & Ice Nine Kills * Five Finger Death Punch & Ice Nine Kills play Show 1 in Paris, Architects & Mammoth WVH play Show 2 in Paris ** Volbeat replaces Architects on Show 1 in Gothenburg

Show 1 Support North America: Pantera & Mammoth WVH *** Show 2 Support North America: Five Finger Death Punch & Ice Nine Kills *** Greta Van Fleet replaces Pantera on show 1 both weekends in Mexico City

Got a question about the M72 World Tour? Look for the answer in our FAQ.

Citi is the official card of the M72 Tour. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets in the U.S. beginning Wednesday, November 30 at 2:00 pm local time until Thursday, December 1 at 10:00 pm local time through the Citi Entertainment program. Five Finger Death Punch Featuring DMX "This Is The Way"

Five Finger Death Punch

Jessica simpson shares tropical photo dump from 'epic' spring break vacation, trending on billboard.

The release did not mention when the DMX vocals were recorded, but Bathory added that the idea of a collab with the “X Gon Give It To Ya” MC had been “in discussion for years, and it was a long and winding road to turn this particular item on our wish list into reality. He was a lyrical warrior, a true original who spoke his mind incorruptibly.” The guitarist said the group had always considered DMX the “metalhead of hip-hop ” because of the rapper’s “aggressive, raw, and untamed” style.

“He growled and snarled, aiming to rattle some cages–an attitude we share, as Five Finger Death Punch has always been drawn to the fearless and the real,” he said. “It made all the sense in the world, but today this is more than just a song; it’s a salute to a legend, a way to honor DMX’s memory.” DMX died in April 2021 at age 50 after experiencing a heart attack triggerd by a drug overdose.

When is the next total solar eclipse visible from the U.S.?

It will be 20 years before there's a chance to  witness a total solar eclipse  in the United States again.

According to NASA, after Monday's total solar  eclipse , the next one viewable from the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044.

2044 total solar eclipse path of totality

Unfortunately, the 2044 total  solar eclipse  won't have the broad reach across the U.S. as the 2024 eclipse.

The path of totality during the 2044 eclipse will only touch three states, according to the Planetary Society, a nonprofit involved in research, public outreach, and political space advocacy.

The eclipse will begin in Greenland, sweep through Canada and end around sunset in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Pets and the eclipse: Will my pets be safe during the April 2024 solar eclipse? What experts say.

2045 solar eclipse

While the 2044 total eclipse will only touch three states, a 2045 eclipse will have a more robust path across the U.S.

Expected to occur on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2045, this solar eclipse will trace a path of totality over California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

A partial solar eclipse will also be viewable in 35 other states, according to National Eclipse.com

What is a total solar eclipse?

Any celestial object like a moon or a planet that passes between two other bodies can create  an eclipse  by obscuring the view of objects like the sun.

In the event of a solar eclipse, the moon comes in between the Earth and the sun, blocking its light from reaching a small part of our planet. Partial eclipses, when some part of the sun remains visible, are the most common, making total eclipses a rare sight to behold.

Total eclipses can lead to a period of darkness lasting for several minutes, during which time nocturnal animals stir while confused birds and insects may fall silent, NASA says.

When a solar eclipse reaches totality, people are able to see the sun’s outer atmosphere called the corona, which is usually obscured by the sun's bright surface. This offers scientists an uncommon opportunity  to study the corona .

Totality also offers spectators a chance to gaze upon the spectacular sight with the naked eye, though  proper  safety  glasses  are still required for the rest of the time.

What states are on the 2024 eclipse path of totality?

Mexico's Pacific coast will be the first location in continental North America to experience totality, which is expected to occur at about 11:07 a.m. PDT,  according to NASA .

As the moon's shadow will northeast, totality in the U.S. will begin in Texas at 1:27 p.m. CDT. The path will then cut diagonally across the country, traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.

The eclipse's path is expected to end in Maine at 3:35 p.m. EDT before visiting the maritime provinces of Canada, according to estimates.

2024 Masters predictions: Nine trends from the last decade to help pick this year's green jacket winner

Augusta national is the only course to host a major every season, which is a relevant factor in a predictive model.

2024-valero-texas-open-round-4-g.jpg

It's here and it's beautiful. The 88th Masters has arrived with 89 players beginning the week dreaming of slipping on the green jacket. These aspirations are still alive and well before the first tee shot is hit at Augusta National Golf Club, the annual host for the year's first major championship.

Unlike the PGA Championship, U.S. Open and The Open, the Masters returns to the same venue each year. While there are some small tweaks to the course here and there, the core of Augusta National has stood the test of time with those who have solved the riddle once before generally having the answers year after year.

It's why Phil Mickelson, without a semblance of form, finished runner-up to Jon Rahm in last year's tournament at 52 years old. It's why his final-round 65 was the best final round of his Masters career in his ... *checks notes* ... 30th appearance. It's why old-timers like Fred Couples and Tom Watson have also made early charges in their 50s. It's why you can never rule anyone out at first glance.

Course knowledge is required, but it is just one part of this equation. While the ghosts of past Masters champions pop up on the leaderboard every now and then, only those truly comfortable with all facets of their game will have the staying power to see it through until Sunday evening. A player doesn't just fall into winning the green jacket (just ask Dustin Johnson), he often trends towards it and peaks at the precise right time (you can also ask Johnson about this).

Watch all four rounds of the 2024 Masters starting Thursday with  Masters Live  as we follow the best golfers in the world through Augusta National with  Featured Groups , check in at the famed  Amen Corner  and see leaders round the turn on  holes 15 & 16 . Watch live on  CBSSports.com , the  CBS Sports App  and  Paramount+ .

Let's take a look back at the 10 most recent winners of the Masters and identify what trends exist as we attempt to whittle down the field of 89  players to pinpoint this year's champion.

1. What's your age again?

It has been 38 years since a 46-year-old Jack Nicklaus donned his sixth green jacket and captured the last of his 18 major championships. Nicklaus became the oldest winner in tournament history with the win. Over the last 10 years, the average age of the winner has been a shade under 31 even with champions like Dustin Johnson (36), Sergio Garcia (37) and Tiger Woods (43). Since Johnson's win in 2020, the last three winners have all been under the age of 30. Mickelson threatened last season with his runner-up finish, but it is safe to assume that if you're over the age of 46, you probably aren't winning.

Eliminated: Fred Couples, Zach Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Mike Weir, José María Olazábal

2. Maybe  don't  remember your first time

Only three players have ever won the Masters in their first attempts: Horton Smith in the first Masters, Gene Sarazen in 1935 and Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979. While a debutant has not won in 45 years, there have been a number of close calls in recent memory with Jordan Spieth (2014), Sungjae Im (2020) and Will Zalatoris (2021) threatening. With such a large class and names like Wyndham Clark and Ludvig Åberg trending, there is a chance this streak comes to and end this year. But, until then …

Eliminated : Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Åberg, Akshay Bhatia, Nicolai Højgaard, Austin Eckroat, Eric Cole, Denny McCarthy, Stephan Jaeger, Jake Knapp, Nick Dunlap, Peter Malnati, Grayson Murray, Matthieu Pavon, Adam Schenk, Ryo Hisatsune, Lee Hodges, Santiago de la Fuente (a), Christo Lamprecht (a), Neal Shipley (a), Jasper Stubbs (a)

3. It's a steady climb

They say Augusta National is an acquired taste. One may not understand the nuances the first or second time around, but once there is a game plan, all that's left on the table is execution. Seven of the last 10 Masters champions had at least one top-five finish in their Masters careers before donning the green jacket with all 10 having previously collected a top-40 result.

Eliminated:  Max Homa, Cameron Davis, Kurt Kitayama, Adrian Meronk, Erik van Rooyen

4. What have you done for me lately?

Each green jacket winner since 2014 has notched a top-15 finish on the PGA Tour or DP World Tour in a stroke-play event over the calendar year leading up to the Masters. Seven of those had already entered the winner's circle on the year -- see Rahm in 2023, Scheffler in 2022, Johnson in 2020 and Spieth in 2015 -- while eight had found a spot on the podium in the form of a top-three result. We'll use that same top-15 cutoff point for LIV Golf events as well.

Eliminated: Rickie Fowler, Stewart Hagestad (a), Viktor Hovland, Tom Kim, Camilo Villegas, Bubba Watson, Danny Willett, Gary Woodland

5. Major-championship pedigree

There have been a number of first-time major winners who have broken through at Augusta, but none have come without some prior experience on a comparable stage. Eight of the 10 most recent Masters champions had at least a major runner-up result already to their name with all 10 having a T6 finish or better. In the year prior to winning, four of the last 10 collected a runner-up finish in a major championship while nine had a top-15 finish.

Eliminated:  Byeong Hun An, Sam Burns, Ryan Fox, Adam Hadwin, Si Woo Kim, Taylor Moore, Joaquin Niemann, J.T. Poston, Nick Taylor, Sahith Theegala

And just like that, we have eliminated 50 players …

6. Let's get technical

Strokes-gained data can be a beautiful thing. In the calendar year leading up to their respective Masters coronations, all 10 champions were averaging at least +0.67 strokes gained per round with the mean of the group coming in at a whopping +2.17. Only four players in the world are currently averaging more than +2.00.

It was not Rahm (+2.75), Scheffler (+2.50) nor Spieth (+2.38) who boasted the most impressive metrics ahead of their victories, rather it was Watson (+3.02) and Johnson (+3.91) who eclipsed the three-stroke hurdle. A couple past Masters champions and one major name will unfortunately be leaving us here.

Eliminated: Keegan Bradley, Thorbjørn Olesen, Luke List, Min Woo Lee, Sungjae Im, Sepp Straka, Justin Rose, Charl Schwartzel, Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka

7. Speak softly and carry a big stick

Off-the-tee numbers are the most predictive indicator of success in the world of golf; the best golfers in the world currently are the best drivers of the ball in the game. The same rings true at Augusta where the last 10 winners were averaging at least +0.60 strokes gained off the tee per round in the calendar year of their victory. Patrick Reed was the low man of this group with +0.14 strokes gained off the tee per round, which will allow a couple names to slip by.

Eliminated: Lucas Glover, Brian Harman, Tyrrell Hatton, Cameron Smith

8. Iron it out

Augusta National caters to some of the best iron players in the world (like Woods). Over the last three months, Scheffler has been the best in this category (+1.57 strokes gained approach per round), while a number of big names have struggled with their scoring clubs. The past 10 winners were averaging a minimum of +0.40 strokes gained approach per round -- a bar some historically strong approach players haven't come close to sniffing.

Eliminated:  Collin Morikawa, Emiliano Grillo, Harris English, Matt Fitzpatrick, Russell Henley, Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, Tommy Fleetwood, Patrick Cantlay, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau

Who will win the 2024 Masters, and which longshots will stun the golfing world?  Visit SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard, all from the model that's nailed 10 golf majors, including last year's Masters and Open Championship .

9. There needs to be a Plan B

Stuff hits the fan during major championships, and the Masters is no different. More times than not, there will be some sort of turbulence over the course of 72 holes, and a player's short game will be tested. Whether it was Scheffler's chip-in on No. 3 in the final round of 2022 or Danny Willett's up-and-down on the 71st hole in 2016, an around-the-green presence is required in some shape or form. This is where some popular names simply fall short of the +0.20 strokes gained around the green clip from the prior 10 winners.

Eliminated:  Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Will Zalatoris, Cameron Young, Corey Conners, Adam Scott

So where does that leave us?

From a field of 89 golfers, only seven — Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, Tony Finau, Chris Kirk and Sergio Garcia — remain. I'll admit that I am very surprised by a few of these!

Scheffler, Schauffele and Matsuyama were always going to be shoo-ins; you probably don't need me telling you that. Thomas is interesting in that he will have a brand-new caddie on the bag and most of his good play came earlier in the year, similar to Kirk winning at Kapalua in the PGA Tour's season opener. Finau is finding his groove and Garcia just lost in his second playoff of the year on LIV Golf, but neither has been super reliable with the putter.

Let's just put it this way: If you gave me a fair price on Scheffler, Schauffele and Matsuyama versus the field, you'd have my attention.

The Masters 2024: Five Things To Know

The 88th Masters Tournament marks the first Major Championship on the 2024 DP World Tour schedule. Here are your five things to know…

GettyImages-2147576481

Rahm defends

Jon Rahm returns to Augusta National a year after securing a fairytale Masters Tournament victory, 40 years on from his hero Seve Ballesteros' second win.

The Spaniard's second Major title came on what would have been Ballesteros' 66th birthday, hunting down third-round leader Brooks Koepka before cruising to a four-shot victory to earn his first Green Jacket and a fifth top-ten finish in seven visits to Augusta.

His route to victory was less than straight-forward, starting the week by four-putting the first hole on Thursday. And after a series of weather delays on Friday and Saturday, he had to complete 30 holes on Sunday - starting the day four shots behind Koepka. Two behind after completion of their third rounds, Rahm had wiped out the deficit in the first four holes and took a two-stroke lead into the back nine. Brilliant back-to-back birdies at the 13th and 14th gave Rahm a four-shot buffer and he parred his way home to sign for a closing 69 and finish the tournament on 12 under par.

He now returns for his eighth Masters appearance, and has the chance to become just the fourth player to successfully defend the Green Jacket.

The key change to Augusta National for 2024

While The Masters is renowned for being the epitome of tradition, Augusta National is not shy of making changes to its famed layout as it adapts to the length modern players hit the golf ball.

Last year, a significant change was made to the famous par five 13th hole, with the tee moved back 35 yards and elevated eight yards after acquiring land from the neighbouring Augusta Country Club. The goal was to change the hole back into a true risk and reward hole as was originally intended, following years of a drop in scoring average.

This year, the big change comes in a new tee box at the par five second hole, Pink Dogwood. Unchanged since the new back tee was introduced and the right fairway bunker moved in 1999, the new tee will move back 10 yards and to the left to make the second hole the longest on the course at 585 yards.

DP World Tour debutants

There are four DP World Tour players making their first appearance at the 88th Masters this week.

After becoming the first player in history to compete in a Ryder Cup before ever playing a Major last September, Ludvig Åberg is making his Major Championship debut this week. The Swede, who is World Number Nine and already a winner on both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, hasn't finished worse than tied 30th in his last seven starts - including a top ten at the recent Players Championship.

Joining Åberg in the field is fellow Ryder Cup Europe teammate Nicolai Højgaard , who secured his first invite to The Masters by breaking into the top 50 of the world with his maiden Rolex Series victory at the DP World Tour Championship at the end of last season. The 23-year-old, who is a three-time winner on the DP World Tour, has enjoyed an impressive start to his first full season on the PGA Tour - which includes a runner-up finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach PRO-AM in February.

Also enjoying an impressive start to their first full season on the PGA Tour is Matthieu Pavon, who made history as the first French winner on the PGA TOUR since 1907 with victory at the Farmers Insurance Open in January to earn his place in this week's field. It came just three months after earning his maiden DP World Tour title in October, and the Frenchman comes to Augusta after finishing tied fifth at the recent Porsche Singapore Open.

Joining them is 21-year-old Ryo Hisatsune , who is making his first Masters appearance and Major Championship debut after receiving a special invite. The Japanese star enjoyed a remarkable rookie season on the DP World Tour in 2023 after securing his card at the Qualifying School, winning his first DP World Tour title at the Cazoo Open de France in September and becoming the first Japanese player to be named the DP World Tour's Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. He was one of ten players to earn 2024 PGA Tour membership through his performances on the DP World Tour last year. Has two top 20s so far this season on the PGA TOUR, with his best result a tie for 11th at The American Express in January.

Chasing records

The opportunity to make records at Augusta National is something that presents itself every year. From scoring records, winning records and age-related records to the opportunity to become the first player to win the Par 3 Contest and The Masters in the same week, there are a number of historical markers players can achieve. This week, there are additionally two significant records that could be broken by two very big names in the game.

It's been ten years since Rory McIlroy has lifted a Major title, and this week marks his tenth chance to complete the Major Grand-Slam with a maiden win at The Masters. McIlroy has come close a number of times, most recently with a runner-up finish at the 2022 Masters, but is yet to break through to become the sixth player to win all four Majors. According to one repor t he is planning to prepare differently this year - including a later arrival and skipping the par 3 contest - as he targets his first Major title since the 2014 US PGA Championship.

Tiger Woods also makes his return from injury this week with his own chance to add to his successful Masters history. He had to withdraw last year in the third round with an injury to his heel but by then the five-time winner had already maintained an incredible record of made cuts at The Masters. He has not missed a cut since his victory in 1997, a remarkable 23 from 23 appearances in the paid ranks. If he makes the cut on this year's trip down Magnolia Lane, he will break the record he now shares with Gary Player and Fred Couples for most consecutive cuts made at Augusta. While unlikely, but more remarkably, he could also tie Jack Nicklaus for a record six Masters titles, having added his fifth with his remarkable victory in 2019.
