Explore Sikkim - High Altitude Hill Stations

Due to its location close to China, tourism in Sikkim was restricted for a long time. Its only during the recent past, government has allowed tourists to visit places which were earlier out of bounds for common people.

Sikkim is your gateway to reach higher Himalayas in the comfort of a car. Gurudongmar Lake in North Sikkim will take you to 17000+ ft and Yumthang-Zero Point is located at 15000 ft. The best part is all these places have roads and people who cannot trek can experience Himalayas beyond 15000 ft.

Sikkim offers few naturally beautiful and romantic honeymoon places. While Pelling is a well known honeymoon destination, Temi tea garden in south Sikkim is another very good option.

Sikkim is one of the most environment friendly state. It has become the 1st Fully Organic state of India and stopped using chemical fertilizers for farm production.

This picturesque location holds a special allure as it marks the end of the road, and visitors can encounter snow here even in June. Please note that a special permit is required to visit Yumthang Valley and beyond.

How to reach Sikkim

Before embarking on your journey to explore Sikkim’s tourist attractions , it is important to consider how to reach these destinations. Sikkim’s sole commercial airport, Pakyong Airport, is at a lofty altitude of 4,646 ft above sea level, making it one of the five highest airports in India. However, it offers limited direct flights connecting major metropolitan cities such as Delhi and Kolkata and needs to shut down flight services often due to inclement weather conditions.

Alternatively, travellers often fly to Bagdogra International Airport in Siliguri, West Bengal, which serves as a popular gateway to Sikkim. Numerous taxis operate from both airports, providing convenient transportation options to various destinations within the state.

Sikkim is also poised to welcome its first railway station in 2024 with the completion of the Sivok-Rangpo railway line. This new addition promises to enhance connectivity and accessibility to the region, further facilitating your visit to the best and most beautiful places in Sikkim.

How to apply for travel permits?

To access protected areas like Nathula Pass, Yumthang, Chopta Valley, Gurudongmar Lake, and Mainam, travellers must obtain separate special permits. These permits have specific requirements and can be obtained through travel agents affiliated with the Sikkim government. For detailed information on permit application procedures, visit the state’s official website .

Best time to visit Sikkim

Home to India’s highest peak, the mountainous landscape of Sikkim results in a cold climate year-round, with snowfall in winter. The best times to explore Sikkim’s tourist places are the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn. From March to May and October to mid-December, witness Sikkim transform into a canvas of vibrant hues as the seasons transition.

Sikkim offers a select few luxury hotels providing indulgent and opulent stays. In Gangtok, consider Mayfair Spa and Resort, Ramada by Wyndham and Taj Guras Kutir Resort & Spa for a luxurious stay.
