Sadly, I’ve happily used Tripit for maybe ten…

I’ve happily used Tripit for maybe ten years but it seems to have broken in the last three or so months (summer ‘24). Mixes up itineraries and dates for different travelers, won’t recognize some forwarded itineraries that it used to easily ingest, etc. I really hope they get their act together soon, otherwise I’m going to abandon Tripit, sadly.

The logic doesn’t make a lot of sense…

The logic doesn’t make a lot of sense if you’re a nomad like me. For eg, each trip set up must have a destination city, ergo a trip is to one place. But it imported a multi-city car hire itinerary and accommodation for other cities. FIK how to untangle that because trip is the only data structure so where does a multi-city car hire sit under. Or multiple flight legs. I had to go back to excel to get the flexibility in data structure I need - ie, setting up a trip with multiple cities. Such a shame - seemed like a great idea but poorly executed. Also seems like something easily fixed by either allowing a trip to include multiple destinations or creating a higher level data item comprised of multiple trips. Don’t you have business analysts to do this sort of thing?!

DO NOT USE! I paid for a pro subscription a couple of weeks ago & suddenly the app is no longer available in my area. Lost all my travel planning & can't delete my data, not to mention I am entitled to a refund of my subscription. Tripit won't restore my access unless I provide them with personal data far in excess of what is required for travel planning

DO NOT USE THIS APP THEY WILL LEAK YOUR DATA I downloaded Trip-it for a holiday coming up because people on reddit recommended it. I shortly after deleted the app cause it’s awful BUT that’s not my problem. They leaked, or, tried to leak my data. Luckily every single password I use for every single platform is completely different. BE CAREFUL when creating passwords for shady or low reviewed apps. Don’t download TripIt.

Easy to use

Have been using Tripit for years and not really sure why they are getting so many poor reviews. It does a few things well, all my travel details, air and hotel are forwarded and easy to view. Could it be more robust? Yes, but seriously it is free and they even send me updates on flight changes and gate info on day of travel. In addition easy to add other people to view, alter, or edit trip plans. Not sure what people expect for free?

simply didn't work -- even as basic as flight bookings with the airline were never detected, and only about 1/3 of the hotel arrangements ever showed up. Cancelled the enrollment, may try again in another 10 years.

TripIt is a great tool to organize travel plans

I've used TripIt to successfully track multiple trips. The app tracks all segments of my plans, and lays it out in a convenient organized way, allowing me to add notes as needed. I can easily update any plans by forwarding confirmation emails, once I give permission it scans my email for any confirmation notifications as well, then adds it to the trip. I can easily modify any segment as well by easily editing it. This app has proven to be tremendously helpful in keeping track of complex travel plans...one of the best parts is that when on vacation and scheduling activities or events, you can pop that into the plans and it helps to keep me on track and organized.

Have used this app many times

Have used this app many times, both the free and the pro version and it's brilliant, in the free version you forward your emails to the app and it automatically adds your plans to the trip. In pro, that is automatic, as are the flight updates. I would not, however, as some have done, trust a notification that my plane has been cancelled without checking for myself. Nothing is infallible. The only delay or cancellation alert I would trust is from the airline itself. Always double check. I love this app and have recommended it to many traveler friends who love it as much as I do. Thanks TripIt

Felt Like a Waste of My Time

Only imported 1 / 40 of my travel itinerary emails. Website was clunky and unfriendly to use when I tried to manually import information. I was also disappointed that I could only attach 3x files per trip on the free version as I feel this should be a free feature.

I am quite surprised with the one star…

I am quite surprised with the one star reviews. I have been using this app now for close to 10 years. I have not seen another app come close to it. On the rare occasion a booking has not imported it is usually the way the booking has come through via email. I have gifted this app to many people now who also travel extensively like me. They have all agreed how easy this app is to use. Another thing I must point out is that I have been overseas at a number of different airports over the years and got a message from Tripit app to advise of not just a delay, but also a gate change. This was before we even got advised at the airport itself. This really is amazing. Sorry the other people didn't get to experience the app for what it really is, but I have been using this and will continue to.

Ridiculously loud office, neither of us could hear each other, and then the lady was brusque and pretty much told me to suck it up. At the end of me bellowing down the phone and repeating myself she told me there's nothing she can do, and"is there anything else you want?" Wow!!!

I use their pro service and have not been disappointed yet! They sort out all my itinerary into one place so I am not going through countless emails. I would give them 5 stars if they actually had a Windows 10 App.

Used Tripit pro for a 3 month Europe trip and essentially it was bloody useless. its algorithm for dealing set material is fine - anything that is not spot on it can not deal with. Complete waste of money.

It should not be so hard to make this app work

It should be easy to scan an email text, look for a date and a time, maybe even a location and add it to a calendar. TripIt works about 50% of the time. I get pro for free so I am tempted to use it but I end up just copy/paste all my travel info into a document and take it as PDF or hard copy.

Disappointing

My soccer team is going on a trip and as the only one out of 25 people I can not connect with the app. I am using and iPhone 12 and 3 different emails. It doesn’t work. I have communicated with TripIt customer care but they can’t help. Disappointing.

Have written to tech dept several times in the past 6 months. My apps still will not open up. All it said TRIP IT UNDER MAINTENANCE for past 6 months. No further respond from tripit help center after that. I believe they do not want to assist me any more. V Poor system

TripIt only if you really need it

I've been using Tripit for a few years now, and while I appreciate the improvements that have been made, they seem to be happening at a disappointingly slow pace. The interface can be quite sluggish, and it's particularly frustrating when it comes to adding details of who is traveling on a trip. The app also has a bad interface for sharing trip details with others, and sharing via email can be a pain. Additionally, viewing trip details through WhatsApp isn't great either. Many ferry companies still aren't recognized, and the app doesn't seem smart enough to match the dates to the right trip, which means that I often have to manually merge it. However, I do appreciate the baggage claim notification and alerts during flights, which can be quite helpful. My work provides me with Tripit Pro, but I haven't found any particularly useful features with that. Overall, while there are some positives, I still find Tripit to be a frustrating experience, and I'm not sure I would recommend it to others.

Best of the best

Best of the best, has saved me time and effort. The best feature is how it automatically adds my travel details to my calendar. Some have rated 'not worth it' - ha - it is free - the pro version is $49 a year and is amazing. I would not travel without this app.

Tripit Pro - Not Worth It

Tripit I received an alert showing that my flight had been delayed. The alert came at. It was a delay from 0700 to 1730. I caught a taxi to a nearby hotel. I came back to the airport at 1500. The airline said that the flight was not cancelled. I would have to wait until the next morning to catch the next flight. I then had to buy another ticket. I made a recommendation to add VERIFY or VERIFY WITH CARRIER/AIRPORT to the end of alerts like that. We all know that travelers can get quite tired. I told them that I didn’t want to know their sources, only why the alert was wrong in general with no specifics needed. Otherwise, I see it as their reputation that takes a hit, especially with your pro membership. I did not want to speak ill of this company, if I didn't have to. The only compensation that I got was a free year of Tripit Pro. Tripit said, “We do not release our sources for where we receive our travel alerts information but have passed your feedback on to the appropriate team to help prevent future issues.” There is no way to know if they actually did that. Keeping all information relating to a trip organized and in one place can be stressful. That’s why finding a great travel planning app is so important. 

TripIt is one option on the market. It claims to organize all travel details, such as flight information and hotel reservations, in one place. You can also receive notifications relating to your travel bookings. 

But is TripIt really the best option out there? This TripIt review intends to offer an overview of how to use TripIt and its pros and cons to ultimately answer the question: Is TripIt worth it?

What is TripIt?

TripIt is a travel planning app that generates itineraries and keeps all details relating to your trip in one place. As opposed to apps that make travel suggestions, like Wanderlog , TripIt simply consolidates all of your already planned trip information in one place. Things you can add include transport, accommodation, and activity details. 

TripIt intends to take care of your travel details to lower stress and worry when traveling and improve organization. You can use TripIt online, or there’s a convenient TripIt mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android.  

This app has been touted as a good choice for those that have their travel plans set. However, TripIt is not the place to find vacation inspiration. 

Despite some drawbacks, the company has caught the eye of many publications and has been featured by The New York Times , NBC , Forbes , Travel+Leisure , and more. 

Is TripIt Free? 

If TripIt sounds like something that would interest you, you may be wondering: “Is TripIt free?” Conveniently, the basic plan is free. However, this plan offers limited features (discussed below.) 

How Much is TripIt Pro? 

TripIt Pro is a paid subscription option offered by TripIt that provides more features and benefits than their basic plan. TripIt Pro costs $49 a year, and you can try it free for 30 days. 

TripIt for Teams 

TripIt also has a third membership option, TripIt for Teams. This option helps plan travel for business and other “team” type situations. 

It keeps all team member’s itineraries in one place and can make different itineraries for different travelers on the trip. The team can then access a travel calendar with everyone’s schedule on it. 

TripIt for Teams costs $29/month for 1-10 users, $49/month for 11-25 users, $89/month for 26-50 users, and $159/month for 51-100 users.  

TripIt vs. TripIt Pro 

So, how exactly do you compare TripIt Pro vs. TripIt basic?  

When comparing the two for this TripIt review, we found that TripIt Pro offers more updates on your trip and a few extra features. 

Extra features you’ll be provided with when using TripIt Pro vs. TripIt basic include:

  • Seat upgrade information 
  • Check-in reminders
  • Fare trackers
  • Reward program points tracker
  • Flight updates 
  • Security wait time updates
  • Information on finding connecting flights
  • Baggage claim location 
  • Gate information and updates 
  • Interactive maps 
  • Estimates of the best time to leave for your trip (for example, when to leave home to catch your flight) and estimated travel times
  • Ability to send travel plans to friends and family
  • Ability to add documents and files to your itinerary, like PDFs or photos

How to Cancel TripIt Pro 

If you purchase TripIt Pro and don’t like the upgrade, it’s easy to cancel. To cancel TripIt Pro:

  • Sign in to your account
  • Click your user name, then “Settings”, then “Billing Information”
  • Press “Cancel TripIt Pro.” 

When looking into cancellation for this TripIt review, we discovered that you can’t get a refund on your annual fee. If you want to cancel, auto-renewal will be disabled, but you must finish the year-long subscription.

If you want to cancel the TripIt Pro free trial before you get charged the annual fee, follow the same steps as above. 

How Does TripIt Work?

  • Download TripIt for Android, iPhone, or iPad, or visit tripit.com.
  • Sign up for an account and decide if you’ll upgrade to TripIt Pro. 
  • Select “Start Itinerary.” 
  • Add your destination city, travel start and end dates, a trip name, and a description (if you like.) Then click “Add Trip.” 
  • You can then manually add to your itinerary or email information to be added. 

Information you can add includes: 

  • Hotel and other accommodation reservations
  • Flight bookings
  • Car rentals
  • Restaurant bookings 
  • Meetings 

TripIt also shows predicted weather conditions during your trip to help plan activities and what to pack. Additionally, TripIt is currently offering Covid-19 travel guidance. You can see the carbon footprint of the trip along with ways to offset emissions too.   

How do I email an itinerary to Tripit? 

To email travel information to TripIt, forward all travel plan confirmation emails from your email to [email protected]

You can also agree to let TripIt scan your email and add travel plans relating to your trip as you receive email confirmations. If doing this, make sure the email account you create your TripIt account with is the one you use for travel confirmation emails.

How to add itinerary to TripIt

Once in your trip itinerary, click “Add Plan,” and you can choose a range of things to add under the subheadings “Transportation,” “Activities,” and “Other.”

What are the Benefits of Tripit? 

Easy to Add Transport, Accommodation, and Activity Details

When testing the app for this TripIt review, we found that adding information to your trip itinerary was very easy. The process of manually adding transport, accommodation, and activities, and forwarding confirmation emails is straightforward and low hassle. 

Allowing TripIt to scan your email makes the process even simpler as they will automatically add things relating to your trip to your itinerary as you receive confirmation emails. 

Once your itinerary is created, it’s also very easy to understand. 

Automatic Reminders and Updates 

If you opt for TripIt Pro, you’ll receive updates and reminders about your trip. These updates make staying on top of what is going on simple. These notifications include suggestions as to when you should leave to reach a location on time, transport updates, and much more.

Can Use via Mobile Device or Online 

You can conveniently access TripIt both via web browser and an app for mobile devices. Having a mobile app is especially handy as travelers can check their itinerary on the go.   

Does TripIt Have Any Drawbacks? 

Too many notifications and emails.

TripIt sends a lot of emails and notifications, especially if you use TripIt Pro. They send travel updates for almost any activity relating to your travel, many of which you don’t need to know. They also often provide the same updates multiple times. 

This issue results in user inboxes becoming full and can mean they miss other important emails. You can turn off email and other notifications. However, you won’t get notified of significant updates, which is one of the purposes of the app.   

Alerts Can Be Incorrect  

When looking at customer feedback for this TripIt review, we found that some negative reviewers of TripIt mention that incorrect alerts relating to their travel plans were given. In some cases, users have even missed their flights because of this! If you choose to use TripIt Pro, always double-check the alerts before acting on them. 

Imported Trip Details Can Be Incorrect 

Users have also said that automatically added trip information has been imported incorrectly. For example, confirmations not related to the trip have been added along with duplicates. 

TripIt Pro is Expensive 

More and more travel planning software is offering all premium features for free. Therefore, paying $49 a year to access TripIt Pro is quite expensive. For example, Wanderlog offers a host of benefits, including itinerary creation and activity suggestions, at no cost. 

Comparable to Google Docs and Sheets 

Some say that as TripIt offers basic features, it’s comparable to simply adding your travel info to a Google Doc, Sheet, or other similar document. 

Slightly Boring and Outdated Website 

TripIt’s website, and to some extent the app, is relatively outdated and features a basic design. In addition, some of the website pages don’t load properly or don’t redirect as they should. 

This dated user interface ultimately affects usability, and there are many alternatives to TripIt with more functional (and fun) websites and apps. 

Does Not Suggest Places to Visit During Your Trip 

TripIt is simply a place to store information relating to your trip that you have already planned. TripIt doesn’t give any suggestions on where to stay, what transport route to take, or what activities to do at your destination. 

This is a big disadvantage as many alternatives to TripIt do offer suggestions. For example, Wanderlog allows you to create travel itineraries with information you already have planned. But we also offer lots of suggestions to make your trip even better. If you like any of our activity suggestions, you can easily add them to your itinerary. 

This TripIt flaw could occur because the software was originally intended more for business travel than for vacation travel. 

Is TripIt Worth It? 

Having used the software for this TripIt review, we would say that there are benefits to using TripIt. However, there are better options on the market. For example, other travel planning apps , like Wanderlog, offer suggestions on accommodation and activities in your destination. 

Despite this, those that have used TripIt seem to be satisfied. The company receives 4.1/5 Stars based on 220+ Facebook reviews.

Positive reviewers like:

  • The convenience of the app
  • How all their travel info is in one place
  • The fact that alerts and updates are offered, for example, updates on flight information  

One particularly happy user says, “ My [favorite] app! Especially love how the pro version keeps me updated on flight changes including gate updates and delays. Easy to forward. Easy to forward emails from travel Booking confirmations to create your plans. Seeing all my planned trips [on] one screen is what keeps me sane every day when I’m dreaming about my next holiday!”

On the other hand, negative reviewers mention: 

  • Trip details not getting imported correctly
  • Notifications, especially relating to flights, being incorrect 
  • Receiving too many emails and notifications, many of which say the same thing 

Another question many people have when considering using TripIt is: “Is TripIt Pro worth it?” If set on using TripIt, the Pro version is a good choice for those that travel a lot. 

However, the only real added benefit is alerts and updates relating to travel plans. For the most part, you can set those up directly for most things. For example, many airlines will text or email with flight updates.  As mentioned, there are also many free alternatives to TripIt Pro (like Wanderlog) So, paying $49 a year isn’t necessary. TripIt Pro Review: The Must-Have Travel App

So when you’re freshly back from a trip away, what’s the first thing you do? Have a hot bath? Order a delightfully unhealthy takeaway, because you’re “too tired to cook”? Sadly weep over your souvenirs? Well, I do all those things too, but after my trip to Prague, I added “write a TripIt Pro review” to my list. Because this is something that every traveller needs to own in order to make your trip completely stress-free, and if you suffer from travel anxiety, it’s an absolute MUST .

Now, you might be thinking to yourself, “but isn’t TripIt just some travel organizer app? I’m really organised anyway! I even have all my fluids in a plastic bag before I get to the airport! Why do I need an organizer app?” Well, I can understand where you’re coming from – that’s what most travel organizer apps out there do. You enter your flight details, and the app records them… and that’s about it. However, TripIt Pro completely blows this out of the water, by providing so much information which is going to be useful for you before you leave, when you’re at the airport, and once you get to your destination. Seriously, I’m never travelling without it again. Prague was by far the smoothest, most successful travel experience I’ve ever had .

Let’s look at all the ways that TripIt Pro is going to make your life much easier!

TripIt Pro: Before You Leave

Obviously you’ll want to download the app first of all – find it here on  TripIt’s website!

Now, before you sign up to the Pro features, consider this – do you own or work for a company which uses SAP Concur? Because if you do, you may already have a complimentary subscription to TripIt Pro! Which makes your life even easier; yay! All you have to do is visit the SAP Concur App Center to connect your account; check out all the details  here .

Easy trip imports

Next, you’ll be wanting to import your trip details. You can do this manually, by entering your departure and arrival airport, date of travel, and flight numbers – but really, wouldn’t you like to save that time? So TripIt Pro makes it easy for you. You can enter your email address into the app, and after giving it authorization, it’ll scan your emails for your flight confirmations and automatically import it into the app. It’s ridiculously simple! It even found my hotel booking confirmation and added that too, which gave me some BRILLIANT local information specific to where I was staying – but I’ll get to that in a minute!

If the idea of an app scanning your emails sounds kinda scary, please don’t be put off – it’s totally secure. It’s an automated process which only looks for emails from travel-related companies, so there won’t be some person looking through your receipts for leopard-print mankinis. Your secrets are safe! Plus, if you want, you can let it scan your emails until it finds the details and imports them, then go to Settings and flip a switch to turn the scans off until you next need it.

You can also forward your confirmation emails to an address at TripIt, which will then add it to your itinerary, so you have plenty of options!

Sharing with friends and family

There’s some other awesome options you can use here. Firstly, you can set up the app to share with your Inner Circle. So if you want to keep loved ones updated with your flight progress, or just make your friends insanely jealous, TripIt Pro will send them nifty updates on how you’re getting on. No more struggling to find a phone signal to send that “I’ve landed!” text message! You can also keep track of all your flight reward points, you frequent traveller you.

Busting travel anxiety

Now, on to one of my very favourite features, and a big reason to why this app is an absolute must for travel anxiety sufferers. One of the big anxieties when travelling is whether you’re going to be safe. You can look at the hotel reviews on  TripAdvisor  and see all kinds of glowing reviews, only to find that the area around it is  awful . We’ve all had that one trip where the hotel is fine, but it’s in a sea of strip joints, surrounded by dark streets with shady types hanging out on them. The kind of area where you you start keeping a good grip on your  personal alarm  when you return to the hotel at night.

Well, TripIt Pro does away with this. By scanning your hotel information, it gives you a Neighborhood Safety Score. It looks at the crime statistics for the area your hotel is in, and breaks it down into categories, such as physical harm, crimes against female travellers, and more. Guys, this is AWESOME . It takes away that anxiety of not knowing what to expect: if your hotel looks to be in a dodgy area, you can make other arrangements, or at least know what to expect and budget taking public transport or taxis to deliver you closer to your door. This feature alone makes gives it my immediate and complete recommendation – and I haven’t even started on all the other anxiety-saving features yet!

TripIt Pro: On The Day Of Travel

As much as I love the features you can use when you first book your trip, TripIt Pro completely kicks ass in the hours before you leave, and on the day you’re travelling. Why, you may ask? Well, let’s have a look!

Flight Status Alerts

Firstly, make sure that your flight status alerts are switched ON. You do not want to miss out on these, because they’re about to make your life oh so easy !

Check-in alerts

I love this, because I’m the kind of fool who’ll forget to do an online check-in, then turn up all at the airport only to queue for an age. No chance of that with TripIt Pro looking after you: it’ll send you an alert that online check-in is available (which is awesome, because it often varies from airline to airline), and you can tap a button to take you to the appropriate page. It’ll even tell you what the weather is going to be like , so you don’t turn up wearing that cute sundress and sandals when there’s two feet of snow on the ground. How handy is that?

Go Now alerts

Not sure when you need to leave for the airport? Enter your location, and it’ll tell you when to start driving . If you’re going by public transport, it’ll give you a list of transport options, plus the price, in order for you to navigate your way there.

Airport maps

I think we can all agree that airports can be one of the most confusing places in the world, especially when you’re trying to find something in a hurry. First you need to find your check-in desk or bag drop, then there’s finding somewhere to get a bottle of water after security, then there’s the toilets, then there’s that last-minute purchase of a hat which you totally won’t use. Or it could just be the layout – for example, I was really confused at Prague airport, because the security checks were located right by the gate, rather than after the passport checks. One look at TripIt Pro’s airport maps eliminates all that pesky worry!

They’re brilliant, detailed maps . Plus, on larger airports (I’ve used London Heathrow as my example), you can filter it down to a single terminal, rather than having to squish an entire airport map on to your screen. You can also zoom in as much as you please, should you want to really examine that luxury airport lounge. And speaking of…

Airport lounges

TripIt Pro gives you you chance to live the high life, by detailing all of the airport lounges which may be available to you, the price of entry, and all the nifty gadgets you can find within. No more looking wistfully at the closed-off Eden that is an airport lounge, staring at relaxed travellers calmly working on their laptops in comfy chairs, whilst you perch on your backpack surrounded by wailing babies. This is definitely a feature that I’ll be using on future travels, especially as my boyfriend gets quite stressed by loud noises and general hectic activity. Even better, TripIt Pro provides you with a $25 credit for LoungeBuddy, so you can have a relaxing time courtesy of the app!

Live flight alerts

Even if you use no other feature on the app, TripIt Pro is completely worth it for the flight alerts. They are SO FAST. Trust me, if your flight is delayed, or if your gate changes, TripIt will let you know even before the airport monitors do . When I flew to Prague, I could only find a seat in the terminal from which I couldn’t see any of the screens (it was in a bar though; don’t feel too bad for me). No problemo. I put my phone on the table in front of me, and when TripIt alerted me as to which gate I was flying from, I was one of the first in the queue.

TripIt Pro is downright magnificent when you’re at the airport. It’s like having a guiding hand which is keeping an eye on you with every step. You won’t be late, you won’t get lost, you won’t get stressed. It’s as perfect an airport experience as you can have .

TripIt Pro: When You Arrive

Thinking that your TripIt Pro experience ends as soon as your flight takes off? Not so! The app still has some tricks up its sleeve which will make your life easier on arrival !

Baggage carousel location

I. Freaking. Loved. This.

One of my big anxiety points when flying is finding the correct baggage carousel. I hate the waiting, having to stop in the middle of a busy terminal to check a screen and find out which number carousel my bag will be on, getting trampled by people who are desperate to be off and on the way to their hotel. Anything that makes this part of flying easier will be a-ok with me.

Imagine my surprise when on landing, I switch my phone off airplane mode, and have a message pop up from TripIt Pro telling me which carousel to go to . I haven’t even got off the plane (indeed, it was still moving), and I know exactly where to go already.

If you could marry an app, then I would’ve done so at that point.

Destination tips

TripIt Pro is still looking after you, even after you reach your hotel!

My favourite feature is the Navigator – you can simply tap one button, and it’ll tell you how to get from your current location to your hotel . This is soooo useful – not only can you use it to get from the airport to your hotel (it gave me exact directions for the bus and tram journey I needed to do), but every time afterwards during your trip. Wandered off the beaten path, and need to get back? One tap, and you know the way! And if it involves public transport, it’ll tell you how much cash you’ll need to part with.

But what about if you’re at your hotel, or anywhere else in town, and you need something? Maybe an ATM, or a grocery store? Or even a bar or restaurant for a quick pit stop? TripIt Pro has even got your back covered here. Give those icons a quick tap, and it’ll calculate where your nearest ones are , and show you on a map.

TripIt Pro: The travel app you won’t want to travel without

My trip to Prague was the first time I’d used TripIt in any capacity, and I just instantly fell in love with it. Even though it’s a paid subscription, which I usually hate, I can see myself subscribing to the Pro features for many years to come. It costs only $49 per year, and it just makes everything so much easier! So many features just blew me away with their usefulness and practicality , just as the flight alerts and baggage carousel info on landing. They’re real time savers, and anything that simplifies the airport experience has to be good. Plus, there’s features such as refunds and alternative flights which I haven’t even had to use yet – judging by the quality of the rest of the app, I have no doubt that they’ll be simple to use and convenient.

But what struck me in particular is how this can be a real life-saver for anxious travellers . A lot of people are completely freaked out by airports, or the thought of getting lost or attacked abroad. My own mother is one of them; my boyfriend generally despises airports even though he loves travelling. TripIt Pro completely eliminates those fears. Neighborhood checks, in-destination navigators, airport maps, lounge access – these are all things with have a massive value to an anxious traveller.

I would recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone who has anxiety, and particularly suffers during the chaos of travel. By smoothing out the hectic events, the unknown, the random elements of travel, you can significantly improve your experience and your life simply by downloading an app.

I love using Tripit! It’s so great for keeping my whole travel schedule in one place, and for storing notes on all my different destinations. It also makes it SO easy to share my travel itinerary with my Mom, because she always asks for it. Is trip.com legit? Why you should never use them in 2023 (or ever)

If you’re searching for flights through popular flight search sites such as Skyscanner, you’ll have probably come across trip.com.  Flights listed on their site are often significantly cheaper, sometimes even 50% cheaper than those listed in other places. The temptation to grab these tantalisingly cheap deals is understandable, but, if Internet searches are anything to go by, many budget travellers are asking themselves whether trip.com is legit, trustworthy, reliable or safe to book with . Having had an absolutely terrible experience with this company in July 2022, I’m here to answer your questions with some hard truths, and hopefully save you a lot of hassle, money and heartache.

TLDR: Never book anything with trip.com. They are absolutely the worst travel company I’ve ever dealt with. 

Here’s a little bit about what happened to me. I booked a return flight on trip.com, as I was due to go to an important family event in California. UK / EU law states that if your flight is cancelled by the airline you have a right of being rerouted to your destination by any means necessary, or alternatively receive a refund. As I was supposed to go to a specific event, I wished to be rerouted.

I then found out that trip.com, even though they have a UK phone number, are actually a Chinese company . Dealing with their Chinese call centre was terrible – agents with poor English repeatedly giving me contradictory information about whether or not I was being booked on a flight, then insisting there were no flights available. They didn’t care at all that I  was going to an important event . When I asked to speak to a manager, they always said one wasn’t available, and if I insisted and refused to get off the phone, they’d get another agent, which I’m pretty sure was only pretending to be the manager, seeing as they had no additional authority or knowledge (but hey, at least they didn’t just change their voice and pretend to be the manager, like what happened to this lady when she tried to speak to one!). I was told I was being put on another flight, then when I woke up at 4am to go to the airport, had an email saying the airline rejected the request.

After spending several days trying to sort this out, I was eventually told there were no flights and forced to take a refund or lose my money . This refund would apparently come in “up to 14 working days” because of the airline. To cut a long (and horrible) story short, I missed out on the event I’d been looking forward to for many months, because they would not put me on another flight. I was left with no ticket and a vague promise of a refund that may or may not come.

Having left them one star reviews everywhere I could ( here and here , for example)  they offered to “expedite” my refund request so that it takes up to 7 working days (how? I thought the airline made that impossible? Hmm) and offered me $50 in site credit as compensation, which is absolutely insulting considering they ruined my trip with their incredibly poor customer service . They keep insisting it’s not their responsibility to reroute me if the flight is cancelled and seem to think I should be grateful that I am even getting a refund.

As of today, I am not even sure the refund is really coming, as I only have their word that it’s on its way.

As far as I am concerned, booking through them does not negate my legal rights, which, since the flight was due to leave from a UK airport, mean I have the right to be rerouted by any means necessary to get to my destination in time. Having booked through them, I couldn’t go directly through the airline, so it’s up to them to ensure my legal rights are upheld. I believe they broke the law by refusing to reroute me when I repeatedly and clearly stated that was what I wanted.

But regardless of whether they broke the law when they refused to reroute me or were unable to do so because of constraints placed on them by the airline (which is what they are claiming), the bottom line is that I booked through them and was therefore denied my legal rights . Reading the many many bad reviews they have on sites like Trustpilot  , Sitejabber , and others, it seems like I am far from alone. At least I wasn’t stranded abroad because of their screw up like this person , or had my flight changed to another country without my consent like this one ! Still, my summer plans have been absolutely ruined because of their awful customer service .

I should also note that Trip.com have also repeatedly ignored a subject access request from me. This is a legal requirement in the UK that states they have to provide me with the personal information they have on me if I request it. This includes recordings of any calls made to the customer service centre, including the one where I repeatedly said I did not want to cancel my flight and wanted to be rerouted.  

( UPDATE: 8 days, several calls and dozens of emails later, I was finally provided with the details on how to get my information out of them as per my subject access request. This happened after I emailed Skyscanner’s CEO , which got this handled by Skyscanner’s customer service manager. After emailing their data compliance people I was told I’d get an answer within one working day . It’s now been almost two weeks and I’ve heard nothing back . Meanwhile I was being offered more compensation, but still not what I asked for, which is the equivalent of a flight to my original destination. trip.com then basically disappeared and stopped answering my emails , even though I’ve asked for an official response if the insufficient offer of compensation they’d made is their final offer.)

Eventually, after chasing Skyscanner again, I got a reply and some compensation. It basically took me over a month of constant hassling and going on a bad PR rampage to get it, and it was still less than what I thought was fair.

After my terrible experience and the resulting research I did, I am now able to answer some of the most common questions about trip.com,  including things like “Is trip.com legit?”, “Is trip.com safe to book with?” and all those other questions that show people are not quick to trust this company. So…

Is trip.com legit?

The answer to this depends on what you mean by “legit”. trip.com is a real company, though in practice they may as well be a scam . The experience myself and many others have had with them often ends up being out of pocket, with no flights , wasting whole days trying to get anywhere with their agents, having to spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars or pounds to get to your destination, being stranded or having to give up on your holiday.

Is trip.com legit for flights?

Absolutely not. If your flight gets delayed, cancelled or is otherwise affected by the sort of issues that are now happening all the time you may well lose your money and not have a ticket . Trip.com may refuse to refund you the money or hold onto it for months or even years.

Is trip.com legit for hotels?

I’ve never booked a hotel through them (and never will), but reading people’s reviews, it seems they are just as bad for hotels as they are for flights . They often forget to notify the hotel of reservations , leaving people stranded and their site doesn’t update when hotels are closed down or are full, meaning people can turn up in the middle of the night with nowhere to stay. If you book with trip.com you are gambling away your money and potentially also your safety .

Is trip.com trustworthy?

In my opinion: absolutely not . Trip.com is based in China. Nothing inherently bad about that, but they do seem to have very poor customer service standards and don’t always understand or uphold the law in the countries they serve.

Paying trip.com and getting a confirmation from them   doesn’t mean you will fly . Sometimes they fail to pass your payment to the airline , meaning you don’t actually have a ticket. Check out this review for one of many examples .

If anything goes wrong with your booking (which is likely in this climate of delays, cancellations, strikes and other travel disasters), you will not be looked after by trip.com . They plaster their website full of “guarantees” and talk about “peace of mind”, but these are just for show.

For example, the first time I tried to book a flight through them, they sold me a “price freeze” for £9 to lock the price of the flight for 12 hours . After just two hours I got an email saying there were “no more flights at that price” . So what did I just pay for? Thankfully I got a refund for the fake price freeze, but in hindsight that should have been a red flag not to believe anything they say. Here’s another person this happened to , making me think this is not a freak incident!

Others have been less fortunate. Take this guy , for example, who paid for a refund guarantee , only to discover he’s wasted his money when he actually needed the refund. This is just one of many bad reviews people in similar situations have left trip.com

Trip.com agents are trained to get you off the phone no matter what . I was repeatedly told things were going to happen and I would get an email about it, but then either an email never came, or I got one saying the exact opposite.

Is trip.com safe?

It is absolutely not safe to book with trip.com. They are not members of any trade associations (at least in western countries like UK, USA, CA and EU countries), they are not ATOL protected . If anything goes wrong, you have nothing to protect you from the consequences. And things do go wrong all the time. Their agents make a lot of mistakes and won’t rectify them , or at least not in time for you to catch your flight. They hold onto your refund from the airline for weeks or even months if you are issued one . They make changes to flights without telling you and won’t refund the money if you can no longer travel as a result. And worst of all, sometimes they tell you they’ve issued your tickets, but don’t confirm with the airline , so you never get to travel at all!

Who are trip.com?

Trip.com, formerly Ctrip, are a big Chinese travel company . Trip.com group now own a lot of travel websites, including budgetair, cheaptickets and others , some of these are owned through a company called Travix, which trip.com also owns. Most importantly, they also own Skyscanner , which in my opinion is one of the reasons why it’s no longer a trustworthy site. Skyscanner pushes trip.com and their properties all the time, giving them prominent placement and creating a false sense of security for visitors. I only booked with trip.com because I found them on Skyscanner and thought they were a trustworthy company. Don’t make the same mistake I (and many others) did. Avoid booking with trip.com.

How can you contact trip.com?

If you’re trying to contact trip.com then perhaps you are already having a problem with them, in which case, I’m sorry. If you google “trip.com contact number” followed by your country, you should be able to find their contact number. However, in my experience, going through to an agent on the phone is no better than using their online chat. In fact, the online chat might give their agent the opportunity to cut and paste stuff into their translation software so they might understand you better. In my experience, there is no advantage to trying to use your voice to elicit any kind of response from them. Save yourself the hassle and use the chat service. You’ll get nowhere, but at least you can say you tried before getting to the next stage I will detail below.

How can you get through to a real person on trip.com’s annoying chat feature?

Trip.com’s chat (you can access it through their customer support page ) is designed to get rid of you rather than help you . As such, it will keep throwing crappy, useless answers at you rather than giving you the option to speak to an agent. To get to an agent, pick the relevant topic from their list, which should give you a bunch of questions and answers. Pick a random question to get the answer. If there’s no option to “consult an agent” at the end of that, click the “give feedback” at the bottom left. Make sure you click the “terrible” option to let trip.com know what you think of their crappy chatbot. As part of their automatic apology for their failure to provide a decent service, they’ll provide you with the option to speak to an agent. Click that and you will (eventually) be connected to someone in their Chinese call centre. Don’t expect any actual help, though!

How can you get through to a manager on trip.com?

To get someone actually dealing with you as a person, you’ll need to think outside of the box. Once you’ve tried dealing with their incompetent agents and gotten nowhere (and only then, sadly, because you have to give them a chance to do their job, even though they will ultimately fail), you can start making some noise on social media. The easiest way to get their attention is to give them a one star review on sites like Trustpilot or Sitejabber .  If you’ve downloaded their crappy app, you can also give them a one star review in the Apple or Android store, though the character limit is annoying and it’s harder for them to get in touch with you on there (still fun, though). Now sit back and watch the fake caring reply appear in all its poor Google Translated glory. Do not be fooled. Trip.com doesn’t care. But if you’ve provided your booking reference, you will hopefully get an email from (supposedly) a “customer success manager” you can deal with. Make sure you give them details of your booking or they won’t be able to contact you.

If you have a Twitter account, you can also tweet trip.com on there with your complaint. They will ask you to message them your details for them to contact you.

Personally, I prefer Trustpilot and Sitejabber, because they will let you edit your review as many times as you want. I edited my review repeatedly to keep up with the developing situation and to refute their various lies.

Sadly, none of this helped me fly to my destination in time or receive adequate compensation, but it seems to have worked for some people looking for refunds, as some reviewers have changed their one star reviews to reflect the fact that trip.com have provided a refund / compensation. Maybe it will work for you.

In my experience, these are the things they respond to. For myself, I googled “trip.com reviews” and have been going through and adding mine everywhere, including on reddit threads. It might not make a difference to what happens in my case, but it sure as hell might save others from going through the same shit I did.

What other things can you try if you’re getting nowhere with trip.com?

If you’re not getting anywhere with them, you might also want to leave some bad reviews for Skyscanner (that is, if you found the trip.com flight through them). Their customer service agents are marginally better, plus the company itself is based in the UK. They will contact trip.com for you to ask them to look into issues, though there’s no guarantee anything will come out of it .

Many people seem to have had good results with doing a chargeback through the credit card . If you booked the flight on your credit card and trip.com won’t give you a refund you’re entitled to, you can ask your bank or credit company to do a chargeback in many cases.

Other people seem to have had some luck contacting airlines directly when trip.com wouldn’t help them, but your mileage may vary with this one. The airline may well refuse to deal with you, because you have booked through a third party.

Trip.com are an awful company and no one should book with them ever . They should really go out of business for being this bad, and if there was justice in this world, they would. My advice to you is to always book directly with the airline if you can afford it. If you can’t afford it (which nowadays with crazy flight prices may well be the case), book with a company that’s based in your own country and is a member of reputable local trade associations you can turn to if anything goes wrong and the company misbehaves.

I was about to pay them for my flight but my payment failed since they were not accepting my card for some reason. As you mentioned in your article, the customer person was useless as usual. I have a similar experience. I had to purchase 4 different flights to Barcelona, all cancelled at the last min in the same week. The last booking I made i didn’t get a cancel notification but when i got to check in they said i was not listed and never was issued a ticket. I was at the airport for hours, the flight departed and I got an email saying to book the same flight for the next day but it was sold out. I did get the refund and they told me since there were no longer any non stop flights JFK to BCN and the price went up significantly that it would be fine to book any flight with another airline. I made sure to call 5 different agents to make sure that this was ok, ALWAYS GET AN EMAIL. They assured me that they had spoken to their manager and that there were notes on my account saying i was good to buy this expensive flight. The next day I was happy and positive I was getting on my flight so I called back to make sure that everything was ready only for them to tell me that they can no longer pay me the difference of my flight and that I am not eligible to cancel. This flight was 1,613.80 economy flight leaving from the same airport JFK, the only difference was that it had a stop in Frankfurt. Her solution was to buy ANOTHER flight from LGA…..a diff airport, I would have been tricked again due to it departing from another location. I have been trying to get this taken care of since June and all the agents keep telling me is that they will issue a ticket with their dispute team but I am stuck with a charge for a flight I was told to buy and never used after I realized I had been scammed. I had to buy a whole new flight the next day for $900 to get to Spain and Chase has not done anything to help me even though this is a fraudulent site. I have called back recently and the agents keep telling me to drop my disputes with the bank and they will refund me but when i tell them i want it typed out in an email they say that it is not possible. I have recordings of these misleading agents but banks cannot legaly use them. I thought it was a safe site because it is linked to sky scanner and PayPal but they know what they are doing and get away with it. Do NOT book on this site I am still dealing with this 4 months later and it will ruin your trip.

Wow. The more I read about these shysters, the more disgusted I am. Seems I got off lightly compared to so many others.

I was about to book a hotel on there, which is $200 cheaper than anything else I could find on any other platform. But, I am always wary of booking anything through new or unknown websites to me, so I did some research and found tons of bad reviews and no good reviews. This wasn’t the first bad review of them I found, but yours and everyone else’s reviews do help. They saved me from potentially losing over $800, so keep it up, please!

I just had in the last 3 days a most unhelpful , frustrating horrible experience with trip. com . I will certainly NEVER ever book with them again . It cost me 3 days of vacation and precious time , that I would rather have wanted to spend with my friends

I visited my daughter in Mexico and she vooked our flights through Trip.

We flew from Ottawa to Cancun and then had a connecting flight in Cancun to Mexico. Our first flight was late by almost 2 hours so we were unable to make the second flight from Cancun to Mexico. We had to stay a night in Cancun at a hotel and rebook with another airline the next day. That added up to 850.00 $ along with the cost of the original flight.

I have been arguing with them for weeks to get the refund for the second flight, which will not make up for the cost of rebooking but it is something at least. They kept telling us that the airline said there was not a 2 hour delay in the flight. We sent them screenshots of the arrival time of our flight at the airport and other additional information supporting the delay but they kept saying that the airline had not updated their system with thise times. They told us not to contact the airline about it, which of course means I did.

After I did contact the airline and sent them the proof we had of our arrival time in Cancun with a request that they update their information my daughter was partially refunded for the flight we missed. I say partially because the have not refunded us for our baggage as of yet. They are telling me that they do not refund baggage expenses. We requested they refund our baggage as well. We would have not payed for baggage without booking a flight. They are connected. Right now we are working on a method of refund. They are telling us because they have to do this manually they need our banking information. I told my daughter to refuse to do this and insist.on a refund through her.credit card, which is where all her other refunds have gone.

My return trip from Ottawa to Cancun was cancelled by the airline. I did not bother booking another one through trip. I vooked it through an airline directly. It took a while to get the money back from trip for this flight as well.

This has been the worst travel experience that I have had. I will never use Trip again. I would have rather paid more instead of being faced with additional costs at the last minute. There also would have been less frustration and time waisted contacting them and the airlines. It was not a good start to a vacation 😕

We booked a trip to NZ from Dublin via USA as it was far cheaper to take the route. We had to change our flights due to vaccination status for USA and we’re on attempt 4 of trying to do this. I wish we had never booked with trip.com every ‘travel consultant’ you ring and speak to will book the flight you request however you’ll get an email a few hours later saying that request has been cancelled due to no flights being available. It’s extremely frustrating and the time delays on trying to book a holiday is ridiculous.

Can absolutely confirm @Trip is a scam. Upon payment for an RT flight (second leg from India) I received an email confirmation saying “Your tickets are on the way to you”. None came. I started on Twitter and 2 days ago by emailing them demanding full refund. I received a canned reply telling me I can pick up my E-tickets at the airline counter. That was the first time I was informed that it is an E-ticket. Told them they did not answer my email upon which they (of course another person) pointed me to an email I had received after I changed the date of the return flight. “In your email you will find your ticket”. There is none in the email. Still working on it …. and will shortly contact consumer protection my country. Some details I found: Skyscammer (they use the name Skyscanner) is owned by Trip and Trip is in joint venture with TripAdvisor. Go figure.

BTW, an E-ticket would be an absolute no go for me because of the validity of 72 hours of a PCR test.

Here is a follow-up. It gets even better. I have been communicating by now with three girls of the Trip Customer Bullshitting Department. More entertainment from scam house @Trip Flight was on Jan. 30, 7:10 am local time. Trip sends email ‘Booking confirmation’ on Jan. 30, 10:01 am local time. Time diff. btw. two countries 4 h 30 min. !! Distance btw two countries 4,200 miles! That makes it 2:31 pm at the place of the fight departure.

Email from Jan. 30, attached PDF states Return flight February 5! Email from Jan. 18, Flight change confirmation for Return flight March 5!!! Of course they charged money for the change.

I requested the confirmation of the company address and name of Managing Dir. and his/her email address. 3 times! This is when they finally responded to that request. Before they continued sending me the flight details and would be happy to help… yadayada.

“I under stand (sic) that you need the name of the director and his/her email address.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide this information, but I will be more than happy to help you, if you have another questions (sic).”

I have just contacted the police in Frankfurt, Germany. (sorry, it’s in German) The essentials: You can not find a phone number of Trip Germany in Frankfurt on the internet. The phone number on the Help page (069-….) connects you with their call center in Egypt. The 800 phone # in the Impressum has been switched off.

Am 29. Jan. kontaktierte ich hierzu Trip und erhielt ausweichende Antworten. Am 1. Feb. bat ich dann um Bestätigung der Firmenadresse und den Namen des Managing Directors sowie dessen Emailadresse.

Nach drei Anläufen kam diese Antwort:

“… Regarding your flight from Delhi to Kathmandu round trip [xxx], I under stand that you need the name of the director and his/her email address.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide this information, but I will be more than happy to help you, if you have another questions…”

Laut Northdata ist die Adresse:

Ich kann nirgends auf dem Internet eine Tel. Nr. finden.

I think I found out your post pretty. Actually, I am having the very same issue you have,right now. I booked the ticket on trip.com about a month ago for the flight which I will be taking in next few weeks and just last week, I am informed that the flight is cancelled by the airline. When I desperately reached out to them, they replied that there are no more flights flying in the entire week and next week. I told them I am ok with different airline to connect since I cannot miss my flight for urgent meetings. Even so, they keep saying they cannot arrange it as they are just ticket selling agents and can do nothing more. I mean why the heck I am booking through them if they cant take any responsibilities at all. I talked to several agents through customer service but no one makes effort to help. They said they cannot do a thing to help me, even if I apply for refund, it is not sure for that is decided by airline. When I asked them to check with airline for me to arrange a replacement (ultimately the airline cancelled the flight based on what trip.com said), they replied airline say cannot and they dont give me the contact or not even the name of the office the airline when I said that I will reach out to the airline myself. Now, I am trying my very best to reach out the airline directly and seek help. Some of my friends from the industry said the responsibility lies with the ticketing agent but trip.com does not even bother to have consideration for the customers. So, fo fellow travelers, make no mistake. Dont ever use trip.com and please let your society know about it. Fraud like this company should not exist in our society and I sincerely do not want any more person to face this shitty experience.

I just gave a 1-star review on TrustPilot UK about Trip.com and the Hong Kong Regal Airport Hotel. I had to change my travel plans and need to go back to London earlier. i made a request to cancel one night of hotel reservation at the hotel booked through Trip.com. I called the hotel which said I had to t go through Trip.com. The advisor at Trip.com did not ask me for any reasons and replied “We tried very hard but hotel has strict policy…”. I then emailed my reasons and produced a new flight electronic ticket. Same reply. Total waste of time and space! Didnt know Trip.com was the successor to CTrip. Avoid at all costs!!

Hi there I have very similiar horrible experiences with trip.com. I had to book ticket to HK last year July and due to issues at the airports my flight got cancelled by trip.com. Subsequently I immediately cancelled my hotel in HK (quarantine hotel) in order to receive my refund on time and also requested for a refund at trip.com. But then a couple of days later, they booked me on another flight without my confirmation and I sent them emails/called telling them that I did not confirm and that I want my refund back because the time would have been conflicting with my quarantine hotel dates and anyways I cancelled my hotel! They refused to send me refund and customer services is absolutely useless and ignoring me even though at one time they even admitted that they made a mistake! So I got my lawyer to contact them, its now been nearly 9 months and they are refusing to give me a compensation or refund! My ticket cost me 1760EUR! From what I am reading I think i have no hope to get my money back 🙁 Unfortunately it is difficult to sue them because they have no office here in Germany (only postal address and they are not responding to my lawyers official letter) My lawyer cant help me either besides using the same stupid customer service email address.

Anybody who would ever think of booking via trip.com DON’T. You will lose your money if things dont go as planned!

Wow! What a terrible company. I don’t know how it works in Germany, but in the UK you can take a company to the small claims court and if they don’t show up, then you win by default. Maybe it’s the same in Germany? Though I guess if it were, your lawyer would know about it and tell you. In the UK they would get the official letter with the court summons and then the court date happens with or without them. You win the money and costs if they don’t bother replying, which I’m guessing is what would happen in this case.

Having an absolute nightmare with trip.com. Booked flights for a wedding costing £3045 to find out by chance my flights were non existent. I received a call at 6am from trip which made me suspicious so I called the airline directly who said there was a booking for me however it had since been cancelled. Qatar airways would not give anymore information due to booking with a 3rd party. Trip denied all knowledge. “No ma’am everything is fine, I don’t know why they would give that information”. Currently 2 months down the line with zero help from trip and my credit card now maxed from adding more flights. I have a charge back ongoing with my credit card provider but I am now receiving very threatening emails from trip. Upon look through any correspondence from them. My flights weren’t “paid” till 5 days after my transaction, no word of a cancelled flight and I have 5 different reference numbers. I would strongly recommend no one books with them. This experience has truly knocked me ill.

What a nightmare! Good thing you can do a chargeback. Let them work it out with the credit card company. I guarantee you it’s not the first time they’ve had a chargeback. And the more they get those, the more at risk they are of not being able to work with the credit card companies!

wished that I have read your post earlier. My flight got cancelled due to weather and it affected all my subsequent flights. I decided to follow their prompt to rebook my flight, and was charged ~$700 for that. After that, it turned out that the other part of the flight couldn’t get rescheduled. As a result, I had to cancel the already rescheduled flight, which cost me another ~$700. In total, I lost $1400 rescheduling fee to Trip.com for nothing.

All their customer service cared about was to say “policies say so” that they couldn’t even explain what those policies are.

Worst travel company that I’ve dealt with.

We have had the worst experience ever in our lives with trip.com. Our business class airfare has essentially doubled because we had to change dates. Now we are stuck in France because of flight cancellations affecting planes using Heathrow due to a fault with the air traffic control system and trip.com again want to charge us thousands of dollars to change our booking dates which we have to do because we can’t get from France to Heathrow to connect with our flight back to Sydney.

Trip.com is really big scam bullshit I have a terrible experienced first time entire in my life we booked round trip from Sydney to Manila we booked September 17-23,2023 then we paid it I received an email my booked it was September12–18,2023 so I panic I cancelled straight away this is really bullshit I chat how many hours from the bullshit agents and their always repetitive and same explanations and words I said I want to talk from who’s asshole manager are in charge I have my contact number agent always telling their expedite my refund I said I want my money back that’s the only savings that I have no conscience no shame no fear from God their trained wisely their fucking asshole employee how to deal with the customer when I research about their reviews and complaints mostly are really bad their big scammer I’m asking all the time my money back they said had a time frame processing for this and their always sending about my refund application number I’m really frustrated until now I don’t have a job and that asshole trip.com that I encounter it’s really bad

I am a travel agent and wanted to test Trip.com however what I found out is very interesting

1) not bonded 2) They use fake photos to sell hotel rooms 3) there Chatbot over takes live Chat with agents 4) the are not booking directly with airlines they have to use 3rd parties 5) when you catch them cheating and over charging. Including not paying for baggage you pay them for they lie and lie and lie. 6) they have even cancelled a used airline ticket.

I have all the proof including the emails and chat records. Showing their issues and they dont care. Why should they as people have paid them. And when you go to your bank and do a charge back they get upset and start crying to you about the interest.

As for the Hotel industry ask most of them they dont like dealing with them. I can give you a list of them too

They just completely ruined two of my flights- always book through the airline, do not trust this company

Tripit Pro Review: The Must Have Travel Organizer App

Let’s get straight into it. What does it do?

TripIt organises your travel arrangements in a neat, easy to read, and consistent format. 

Tripit is a travel booking and itinerary application from Concur designed to let you “instantly organize” all your travel plans in one place.

I’m a big fan of apps that help me cut down on administration tasks. Logging into airline portals and managing flights should be simpler. Tripit offers a solution to the multiple-itinerary logistics issue that many travelers have to deal with.

Why should you use it?

Use Tripit Pro to organize trips, save time, and easily view all your schedules. Tripit now offers COVID-19 travel guidance in the app so you can find out what kind of restrictions you might have to deal with.

How do I set it up?

For people who want to jump straight in, download the TripIt app from the App store here and Google Play.

Once you’ve downloaded the app (or are using the website) you will need to enter some details to start your account. You can sign in with an email account and password or use a social media account.

I chose to use my e-mail address for login access. I am not a big fan of connecting my social networks to mobile apps. The social media login is a bit more streamlined (no password required) so you might prefer to use that.

You also have to allow the app access to your email service’s inbox in order for it to automatically import travel itineraries and booking for you, so make sure you use the e-mail address you typically have all your travel info sent to when you make plans for a trip.

Is TripIt Pro Worth It?

There is also a Pro subscription option for an additional annual fee that adds useful features frequent travellers will love such as Seat Tracking, Check-In Reminders, Rewards Point Trackers, Flight Status Alerts, Check-in Reminders, Alternate Flights, and more.  At a very reasonable $49 a year, it’s definitely worth the money.

In the interest of getting into the best of what Tripit Pro had to offer, I took the plunge and signed up for the 30-day Tripit Pro trial. You do have to enter a credit card in order to get access to the free trial, but the trial is 30 days, which should give you plenty of time to decide if the Pro features are worth the annual cost to you when you travel. After I verified my email to finalize my login credentials via mobile web, I fired up Tripit from my apps screen. 

To book a trip manually, a large friendly orange and white plus sign button right on the app’s home screen gets you started. Tapping the button pulls up a blank form with all the necessary details for your trip such as destination, travel dates, a name for the trip (If I travel for work I might name the trip with a project name for tracking expenses), and a description section for any notes about the trip you may want to jot down.

There are also two switches to mark the trip private to keep it unshared, and to mark if it is a business trip or not, which really comes in handy for deducting business expenses come tax time each year.

Once you have entered and selected all pertinent trip information, you just need to tap the light blue floppy-disc-shaped Save button in the top right corner, and the trip now appears in your home screen with your travel dates, in addition to the length of the trip and how long until you depart for the trip.

When you tap on the trip itself in the list, it opens up the Plans screen, where you can add your more specific travel information. Since I had not set up any of that information yet, I had to tap the Add Plans button to enter it manually. I tapped on flight first, and then entered in some potential flight information for my outbound flight.

As soon as I had saved the flight numbers for the first two legs of the trip, Tripit immediately added them to my Plans screen and displayed the current status of each flight as well, both of which were showing All Clear with no delays. It also had the option to use the Pro features like Seat Tracker and Alternate Flight right on the Flight screen for easy access.

Tripit Pro also had another extremely convenient feature I had not previously encountered in a travel app: at the bottom of the flight screen was a row of side-scrolling buttons with a map of the departing airport, a list of lounges at the departing, a map of the arrival airport, its lounges, and available ground transportation at arrival.

In short, with just two taps, I could quickly access all the important information I needed to navigate both airports right from where my flight information was listed.

I tend to struggle with airport navigation and finding a place for a quick snack or drink doesn’t often work well for me since I am not able to find and get to my gate fast enough before departure to enjoy any R&R in a lounge. However, if I can map out my transition in advance, this allows me to schedule extra time for that brief break before my next flight.

After looking at the handy navigation tools in the flight screen, I proceeded to add car rental and hotel stay information to get an overall idea of what a complete travel plan looked like in the app.

Everything was neatly listed with times, dates, important information, shuttle times from the destination airport to my hotel, and literally everything I would need to know from my doorstep to my destination lodging.

It even had the hotel address and car rental addresses listed to make navigating via Google Maps a breeze. Best of all, there was not a single hiccup in the operation of the app the entire time, and all information pertinent to my trip available from other sources updated near instantly after I clicked save for each entry. 

How Well Does It Work?

In order to test out all features completely, rather than book and cancel travel plans for myself I asked a colleague to forward me their booking emails from their upcoming trip out of town for business. Sure enough, the app immediately added a trip to my Not Traveller column of the home screen, and I was able to view real-time flight and travel updates regarding this co-workers trip.

I was also able to edit the way in which the trip displayed information according to my preferences for flight, car rental, and hotel. The convenience and speed with which this app operates is nothing short of astonishing, and I could instantly access or share every detail of my trip and my co-workers trip with just a couple taps on my phone. Now that I had real data to play with, it was time to test the Pro Features .

Seat Tracking

I started with Seat Tracker. This handy Pro feature allows you to set alerts for seating availability and any changes in seating in real time so that you can select the best possible seat or change your seat if a better one opens up. When I added a Seat Tracker, the app pulled up a diagram of the aircraft for the flight I had listed, and highlighted my currently booked seat.

I then entered my preferences for a better seat using the Select Seat Preferences menu and tapped save. If a better seat opened up, it would pop up an alert on my lock screen that a better seat had been found and I would be able to contact the airline to make the seat change for my ticket.

The only part that took a little while was loading the diagram of the aircraft for my specific flight. But selecting an alternate seat to keep an eye out for was quick and easy, and once the aircraft diagram was downloaded for that flight number it loaded near instantly after that.

Alternative Flight Options

Next, I decided to test out the Alternate Flight utility. This Pro feature lets you check listings for alternate flights departing on the same date or in the same time frame as you current flight, thus allowing you to search for earlier or later departing flights directly from your mobile device. The default search is for an alternate flight in the same time frame for the same airline, which yielded no results on my first search.

Once I altered the search criteria using the Search button, I was able pull up a full list of flights departing the airport all day from my starting location and browse to see the number of available seats, as well as which specific seats were still available. It did not list the difference in fares, but when you need to make a flight change and want instant access to what else is available, you can worry about pricing out the best flight when you contact your airline for a refund or go to book an alternate flight time with another airline.

The speed at which Tripit pulled up flights and departure times was very satisfying though, and the ability to near-instantly browse  available flights and seats when your flight has been cancelled or delayed and you are on a tight schedule is a level of convenience I never knew existed. Generally, if I needed to choose alternate flights in the past  I would have to go from airline to airline and ask them to search for me, or I’d need to break out my laptop and browse for flights that way. 

Cheaper Flight Monitor

The final Pro feature I looked into was Flight Refund Monitoring. The way this feature works is by constantly scanning airline prices regularly in order to see if a better price for your fare comes along that is lower than what you paid when you booked your flight. If Tripit Pro deems the difference in price claim worthy, you get an alert on your phone letting you know to contact your booking agent or carrier to file for a refund.

This feature can easily save you the cost of your annual Tripit Pro subscription with just one flight refund, so it is definitely worth configuring and using for each and every flight you take.

Overall, this app is an incredibly powerful and convenient tool for regular travellers who need to keep their colleagues and loved ones in-the-know about travel plans while maintaining access to all of their travel information at the mere tap of a smartphone screen. I really liked the way that the widget can be configured to allow access to updated travel information right on your phone’s home screen or additional app screen without having to find and tap the app’s icon.

It’s like having an instant memory recall for all of your information with just a couple taps.

Furthermore, the TripIt Pro subscription service will save you in time and money a great deal more than their asking price for a year, especially if you are a frequent flyer who is on the road or in the air most of the year. I also cannot emphasize enough how simple the app interface is to use and how easy it is to add and edit trip information.

I find that the older and busier I get the more absent-minded I become, and having all my important travel information like my flight numbers, gate numbers, and ticket numbers readily accessible in one place on one lightning-fast app is an absolute lifesaver.

The best part about Tripit though is automated importing directly from your e-mail to a well-designed, easy to use, and useful travel organizer that keeps you on time and arms you with all the latest information affecting your trip in real time so you can make smart travel decisions on the go. The idea of a vacation after a long term of work or studies can easily excite any traveler. It’s all fun and games until you realize how exhaustive travel planning can be when it comes to scheduling and organizing tasks.

But, here's the good news: We've found these best travel planner apps that can help you create a full-fledged itinerary with just a few taps, so you don’t have to pull your brains out doing it yourself!

TripIt travel planner is one of them. While it's primarily used for business travel, it can be used for vacation travel as well. 

In this article, we are going to review this travel planner and find out whether it delivers what it promises! If you are looking for planning vacation travel, however, we recommend using Pilot , a great travel planner app we built specifically for vacation planning.

Let’s start the review of TripIt with what exactly are they.

What is TripIt?

TripIt is a travel planning app that is designed to create itineraries by integrating all your travel details in one place. It helps travelers organize, manage, and track itineraries in a hassle-free manner. But if you know already, there are other travel apps out there offering similar services. 

So, how does the TripIt app stand out from the crowd?

As a travel planner, TripIt does a bit more than allow you to create itineraries for your favorite destinations. It makes sure you get to your destination on time and enjoy your tour by avoiding obstacles and making use of opportunities on your way. All and other additional useful features, with a pricey premium subscription, unfortunately.

Is the TripIt app worth your time, and should you upgrade to a TripIt pro if you’re an avid traveler? Let’s find out how and if TripIt is worth it!

Is TripIt free?

The short answer is "it depends". 

There are 4 different plans for TripIt depending on your needs. The basic plan is free to use but offers a limited-service of additional features that can benefit frequent travelers. So, how much does TripIt Pro cost?

TripIt Pro costs $49 annually, with per-user license plans for TripIt for teams and up. Below’s a rundown of TripIt’s subscription plans and the features that they offer.

Still not sure if you should get TripIt Pro or just stick to the basic plan? We'll give you a rundown of all the features that is covered in each plan so that you can be well informed before you make the purchase.

The basic plan is free to use. Its features are limited to gathering all travel-related details into an itinerary. It’s recommended for starters or people who don’t travel very often. Here are the features offered in their basic subscription:

TripIt for Teams:

The version is great for companies to create and share trip plans related to business trips with their employees. This version is more of a centralized control center for travel operations. 

TripIt for Travel Management Companies:

The specialized version is geared towards travel management companies (TMCs). If you are traveling with one of their partners, you’ll be able to access and change your plans through the TripIt app anytime on any device! You can also access your TMC contact information on the app and contact them for any questions.

What are the Major Features Offered by TripIt?

There are many features that TripIt and TripIt pro offers, but here are the major features that a subscription to TripIt gets you:

  • The ability to create multiple itineraries that include all travel-related details from flights, accommodation to car rentals
  • Displays interesting travel stats, total carbon emissions of your past flights, neighborhood score, and nearby attractions of places you visit

TripIt Pro has additional paid features that include,

  • Flight status, real-time alerts on flight delays, transportation options, and alternative flights 
  • Rewards point tracking, seat tracking, and VIP travel benefits to help you save money
  • Detailed maps of airports

How Does TripIt Work?

Once a user creates an account on TripIt, it will form itineraries based on confirmation emails regarding flights, accommodation, and other bookings. These details can be gathered automatically by the app from the inbox or manually forwarded to TripIt’s email address by the user. Once done, you can share it with other people, edit it, or sync it with your calendar. 

In order to view your trips, others need to have a TripIt account as well. You can sign up for a 30-day free trial to use Tripit Pro, but you still have to enter your credit card details.

How to send your itinerary to TripIt?

The first step to generating your itinerary from TripIt is to forward all of your bookings to their system. This step is super simple! After booking your flight, hotel, rental, or other tickets and reservations, forward the confirmation email to [email protected] . They will instantly generate or add the reservation or ticket into your own master itinerary.

You can also set up their auto-import email services so that they’ll be able to automatically scan through your emails for any reservation or tickets and add them to your itinerary! Find this feature on the home page of your TripIt app.

How to cancel your TripIt Pro Subscription?

Say you’ve upgraded your TripIt to their TripIt Pro Subscription and are not impressed with the features that come with your subscription. It’s super easy to modify or cancel your subscription. Here are the steps

  • Make sure you’re signed in to your account
  • Click on your username.
  • Go to “Settings”, then “Billing Information”

In this section, you’ll be able to modify your billing information as well as cancel your current subscription to TripIt Pro. TripIt will not offer you a refund of your annual fee, so make sure you cancel your subscription or turn off auto-renewal before the renewal date!

If you’re on the TripIt Pro free trial and would not like to get charged the annual fee, make sure you follow the steps above to cancel your subscription before your free trial ends.

Is TripIt Pro worth it?

If you’re a frequent traveler and would like to have the added benefit of real-time alerts and updates to your travel plans, it’s definitely worth it! 

However, for 49$ a year, the features that come with TripIt Pro subscription does not seem worth it to us. For example, we’ve found that many of the alerts that TripIt sends out are a mere duplicate of alerts airlines sent to travelers. These TripIt alerts can also sometimes be inaccurate, which may lead to frustrations.

There are other alternatives out there that offer more document uploads, group planning, trip updates, and organized itineraries, such as our Pilot travel planning app!

Here's a rundown of all the pros and cons of TripIt in detail.

What We Like About TripIt

Automation .

With the auto-import feature, you have to invest little to no effort to create an itinerary because TripIt will handle most of it. This is an impressive feature for busy professionals who don’t have time to sort emails and send them to TripIt manually.

Convenience 

We think TripIt does a great job in bringing all vital details regarding your trip into one place. You don’t have to go through the hassle of rummaging your bag to find out reservation receipts or scour through emails to retrieve flight information as everything is there in the app. 

Useful Features

TripIt walks an extra mile in certain aspects. Its features like neighborhood safety score help you stay clear of shady areas or be more vigilant when you are touring in cities like Mexico. It also tracks your flights’ carbon footprint and suggests ways to offset them, which is awesome.

Prompt Alerts

For TripIt premium users, the app is really useful when it comes to receiving real-time notifications on flight delays, cancellations, and gate changes – sometimes, even before the airlines! It even alarms users when the departure time is close, so you won’t miss the flight.

Ability to Plan Trips in Groups

You can invite your friends and family members to join TripIt and plan your travel journeys together. Users can share their itineraries with others and grant access to contribute or edit details. It also makes it easy to share important trip-related details with multiple people.

Why TripIt is Outdated

Premium version is expensive.

If you are not a frequent traveler, the TripIt premium version may not be a cost-effective option because the free version is equipped with most of the essential features of a trip planner. In comparison, most more modern travel planning tools, such as Pilot, are a free service.

Too Many (Annoying) Emails

Some users have complained TripIt spamming the inbox with excessive and unnecessary emails about every single update. It can be annoying as the whole purpose of using a travel app is to minimize clutter. But, you can manage it by changing the settings via the desktop app. TripIt is owned by SAP, a large and old company that isn't exactly known for being "customer-centric."

It isn't "fun"

TripIt was built for business travel, not vacation travel, meaning it lacks a lot of features that would have you replacing Google Docs, Spreadsheets, etc. You're frankly still better off using those tools than TripIt in its current iteration (that's why we built Pilot). It can be useful, but there's little delight or fun in using the tool, since it wasn't built for that. 

That's fine if that's what you're looking for, but we believe that travel planning should be a fun experience given the anticipation for your trip!

Issues with Auto-Import 

Although the app works well most of the time, users have encountered some issues where the app has failed to import confirmation details automatically, especially if it’s a small hotel or rental service. In this case, you have to enter the details manually.

Dull and Dated Web Interface

Compared to the mobile version, the web app is particularly outdated. It can certainly shine better with a good upgrade. It can be useful, but it's certainly not "cool". This unfortunately also results in a subpar user experience compared to more modern apps.

Inaccurate Alerts (sometimes)

There tends to be rare inaccuracies related to flight delay alerts and information related to alternative flights. But, this is a small percentage of users. As a rule of thumb, it’s always better to double-check with the airlines regarding these matters – so you won’t miss a flight.

Is TripIt Worth it?

Now for the final question, is TripIt actually any good, and if so, should you pay for their pro subscriptions?

TripIt is a great app if your main concern is having all travel confirmation and reservation details organized in one place, especially with regards to flights.

But, if you are looking for a more modern trip planner that focuses on the “experiences” of your trips like where to go, what to see, and do, then you need a better option. Besides, the antiquated look doesn't really match the excitement of traveling!

I certainly think there are better free options to use than TripIt, so for that instance, We believe that you should not sign up for its pro version unless you're a frequent or business traveler looking for a way to stay organized.

Spent hours on the phone with customer service who put the blame on us for selecting the wrong flight when we had checked the flights multiple times on the booking page before payment. Clearly a technical issue or bug on their system which they are refusing to admit. Obviously unable to provide evidence as the issue is within their system! Looking at reviews on other review websites over the past few days, it looks like other customers have experienced the same issue. This has caused unnecessary stress and wasted time. They are now asking us to pay over £400 extra to change the flights even though the error is from their side. Terrible experience that has not been resolved.

Is trip.com a scam or a legit company.

Do not book with them. If anything happens and you need to modify your booking they will not help you. They have canceled people's bookings at the last minute as well. This company is all about the money. Once they have your payment they are done with you. DO NOT book travel arrangements with them. Read the reviews and I'm speaking from experience. The price is good but if anything happens they will take your money and will not help you.

If you’ve never heard of the Marina Bay Sands , you’ve undoubtedly seen it. Google Singapore, a tiny Southeast Asian metropolis, and every other image will include the hotel’s three sloping towers with a “SkyPark” extended over the top.

Whether it looks like a boat, three decks of cards, or is simply an ingenious design by architect Moshe Safdie, the building has become synonymous with the Singapore skyline since it opened in 2010 — and now, it’s recently undergone a billion-dollar renovation, majorly upgrading more than 1,000 rooms in Towers 1 and 2. (Tower 3’s transformation is coming).

During my first stay in 2018, I spent hours in the Instagram-famous 500-foot rooftop infinity pool, swimming from end to end and taking in every angle of the city between strokes. My second stay was for a work conference, a commonality for many guests at the Marina Bay Sands.

Inside this massive integrated resort is a convention center, casino, museum, restaurants, and shops. I’ve shared elevators with exhausted coworkers, teens plotting the perfect pool photo, and high-rollers returning from a gambling session.

There is so much going on at the Marina Bay Sands that it often feels like more than a hotel. It is its own microcosm of Singapore’s reputation as a financial hub, a cocktail bar haven, and the poshest place in Asia.

When Taylor Swift played in Singapore, she stayed in one of its swankiest new suites with 24-hour butler service. And when the city comes alive for the Singapore Grand Prix, the towers are packed with motorsport fans looking for a track view. My next visit to Singapore will be to (hopefully) watch Lewis Hamilton finish P1 as the race cars zoom around the hotel.

For shopaholics, the hotel’s luxury buggy service will take you from Louis Vuitton Island to an Apple store surrounded by water in seconds flat. Families can jump on the hotel’s Sampan boats and float through its luxury shopping center. If you’re feeling lucky, try your hand at the world’s largest atrium casino’s 600 tables and 1,600 slot machines. Then, visit the ArtScience Museum, which has a rotation of imaginative and immersive exhibits. The myriad ways to entertain yourself in this adult playground are dizzying.

I’ve spent afternoons face-down on a massage table 55 stories in the air and evenings sipping Singapore Slings at its rooftop lounge CÉ LA VI. While you don’t have to leave the hotel grounds, missing out on Singapore’s UNESCO-recognized hawker center culture, pastel-colored shophouses, and lively Chinatown would be a shame. And when you return, sweaty and exhausted, your pillowy bed covered in Frette and Mascioni linen will be there waiting.

Here’s my review of Marina Bay Sands, a tourist attraction meets architecture icon.

  • Thanks to its massive refurb, its interior design — particularly in its enormous suites — is striking and sophisticated, with calming colors and high-tech touches.
  • The famous and sprawling rooftop pool is only available for in-house guests.
  • Marina Bay Sands is smack dab in the sightseeing heart of the city; you can walk, taxi, or take Singapore’s excellent public transport system steps from the hotel.
  • There’s always something happening, from VIP events to celebrity-chef appearances; a stay here feels exclusive and exciting.

With 1,850 rooms and suites spanning 55 floors and three standalone towers, you may think you’ll be packed in like sardines, but starting rooms here are nearly 500 square feet. Split between the Sands Collection and the ultra-ritzy Paiza Collection, eight room categories range from the Sands Premier Room to the Paiza Signature Suite.

All its rooms feel plush and elegant with Champagne golds, chrome finishes, light timber, and muted velvet furniture. In line with Singapore’s high-tech sensibilities, all rooms include wireless charging stations, massive 75-inch flatscreens, and Dyson hair dryers. If you’re unsure whether to choose the City View or the Bay View, go with the Bay — there’s nothing like looking at the glittering Supertree Grove at night.

My brand-new Sands Premier Room felt lightyears away from the previous starting category room I’d stayed at here a few years earlier. It wasn’t just the high-end material blanketing every inch, but the amount of space, especially the marble-clad bathroom with double sinks, soaking tub, and rain shower. Another nice touch is the bespoke cocktail trolley in each room and the lacquered Asian armoire full of local goodies and specialty tea.

For those splurging with its Paiza Collection, perks like a VIP arrival service, a butler on call, and access to its private lounge are all included.

With close to 50 food and beverage options spread around Marina Bay Sands, 11 of which are in the actual hotel, even the pickiest eaters will find something. The huge variety of restaurants ranges from American favorites like Roberta’s Pizza and Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer to Asian musts like Ippudo and Din Tai Fung.

There’s fine dining by celebrity chefs like Daniel Boulud, Gordon Ramsey, and Wolfgang Puck (book at Spago Dining Room for incredible city views). There are also casual options, including a variety of casual Western and French cafes, as well as quick sushi and pho.

Overwhelmed? We don’t blame you. If your head is spinning with food fantasies, I suggest slurping up some soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung, savoring the Peking duck at Mott 32, and splitting the signature meatballs at LAVO Italian Restaurant & Rooftop Bar — just be sure to ask for a table with a view.

When it comes to Marina Bay Sands, there is so much to do and so little time.

The SkyPark is undoubtedly a major draw for guests. This rooftop area spans nearly three acres and is large enough to park four-and-a-half jumbo jets. And while reserved exclusively for guests, I recommend arriving at the infinity pool area early in the morning for peace and selfie-free space.

Other activities include hitting the slot machines, shopping at any of its 19 flagship stores, watching Spectra (an outdoor light and water show), or seeing one of its Broadway shows. And when you need to relax, its Banyan Tree Spa has everything from Thai massages to body scrubs. The hotel’s Technogym-equipped fitness center is located in the convention center (ask someone to guide you there; otherwise, you may never find it.) But for a unique workout experience, book a yoga, HIIT, or sound meditation class on the SkyPark with unbeatable views over Singapore.

Located on the 55th floor of Tower 1, the Banyan Tree Spa has 12 treatment rooms decorated with Asian floral patterns, soothing water features, and warm colors. It offers page after page of full-body treatments, including a Radiance Revival facial, an Ayurvedic massage, and a Turmeric Honey Cleanser body scrub. Singapore is already one of the world’s cleanest cities, but you’ll feel like a new person after a treatment here.

The hotel’s Sands Collection includes 33 Sands Family Suites, complete with bunk beds and fun animal-themed wallpaper. Little ones also get an Adventure Pack with a lion stuffed animal to explore the “Lion City.” Plus, there are numerous interactive ways to keep the kids busy, including the ArtScience Museum and the Digital Light Canvas, which are done in collaboration with teamLab.

There are 20 ADA-compliant rooms designed for wheelchair use and 29 elderly-friendly rooms featuring rails and showers with benches. All common areas, including the SkyPark, are accessibility-friendly.

Marina Bay Sands is working to reduce its carbon footprint, already cutting it by 24.4 percent since 2014. Its SkyPark is powered by 536 solar panels, the hotel's fleet of cars is electric, and suites are outfitted with energy-efficient technology and control systems to adjust consumption based on occupancy.

It doesn’t get more central than this. A quick 15-minute drive from Changi International Airport lands you between the Marina Bay waterfront and the Gardens by the Bay . Many of Singapore’s biggest attractions are within walking distance, including the Singapore Flyer, the Supertree Grove, and the National Museum of Singapore. If you want to venture further to neighborhoods like Kampong Glam and Duxton Hill, the Bayfront MRT is a two-minute walk away.

Marina Bay Sands has its own rewards program, Sands Lifestyle, which is free to sign up for and gives members deals on dining, shopping, and activities. The hotel also offers stay packages, so check its website for the latest deals.

If your cell plan doesn't include international roaming, you can get slammed with steep fees for using mobile data outside your own country.

There are a few ways to get around roaming charges, including buying a local SIM card for the country you are traveling in, using a Wi-Fi stick , or investing in a dual SIM phone, like those from Samsung, Apple, or Google. One of the easiest and cheapest options though, is an eSIM app like Airalo . Airalo was one of the first in the eSIM game and continues to be popular with travelers. Fans of the app point to how easy it is to download and get started quickly, and how much it saves in fees. On the other hand, some users have noticed a discrepancy in how well it works in different countries. One reviewer on TrustPilot states "We do NOT recommend this plan given the extremely poor performance in Vietnam" despite noting excellent service in Hong Kong. 

Airalo is a paid service, available on the App Store and on Google Play.

Google Maps is often the default app travelers reach for when navigating new territory. It's a trusted resource for a lot of reasons, including the ease of finding reviews and info for even very small businesses. But it's not the only map app out there, nor is it the best in every situation. The main advantage of Maps.me over Google Maps is that it is based on user-generated information. Particularly for folks who are getting around on foot, this "boots on the ground" approach is excellent and more direct than reporting problems to Google Maps . It also means that if you find a cool place on your travels and want to make sure other travelers can find it, you can add it to a map.

Like Google Maps and other useful way-finding apps, you can download maps and bookmark points of interest for offline use, although the background information on locations is not as robust as on Google Maps. Maps.me also allows you to access various modes of transportation while offline, which Google doesn't. 

Maps.me is free to download and available from the App Store and from Google Play.

Cash's position as king is increasingly precarious. On your travels, you'll find cashless options in places you might not expect. The mass availability of mobile payment platforms like Square means you may be able to whip out your phone or card at Swiss coffee carts or Mexican street vendors. Wise (formerly Transferwise) lets you move between currencies seamlessly. Wise lets you operate in 40 currencies, which is particularly handy if you are traveling to several different countries. They advertise charges that are less than the major banks. However, some users have complained about complications with money transfers, so be forewarned if you intend to use this app for sending money. 

Of note to travelers is the option to get an actual bank card that can function as an international debit card with a nominal conversion fee (not all bank cards can pay by debit in countries other than your home base.) Or, save a step and scan your phone to pay from your Wise account. 

Wise is available on the App Store and from Google Play. There is no charge to download the app, but fees are charged for some banking activities.

If you are going to be traveling from place to place on your vacation, you will want the Rome2Rio app on your phone. Enter your destination and departure location, and the app spits out the options and approximate costs for each leg of your journey. For instance, if you are in Edmonton, Canada, and want to get to the Thai island of Ko Yao Yai, the app will suggest six options, labeling the best, cheapest, and fastest combination of flight, minibus, and ferry. You can't purchase tickets through the app, although there are links to book accommodation that take you to Booking.com. Being able to purchase travel fares through the app would make things easier, especially if they were offered in a package, but the absence of that feature means you can investigate and compare prices from different booking operators , so we are putting it in the win column.

Rome2Rio is free to download and available from the App Store and from Google Play.

Rick Steves Audio Europe

Rick Steves is recognized as a top voice in travel guides. His down-to-earth approach to travel has endeared multitudes of followers to him, spawning an industry of books, television shows, and a sprawling web presence that features how-to guides, articles, and an active travelers' forum. On top of all that, he has a free app for self-guided walking tours through many of Europe's top sights called Rick Steves Audio Europe . Reviewers of the app give it a high rating (4.7 on Google Play and 4.3 on the App Store) using superlatives like "This app is GOLD," and comparing the quality of the tours to paid audio tours. On the downside, it is difficult to sync the app on multiple devices, so if you are in a group you may all be at slightly different parts of the tour, which can be mildly annoying. There are a bunch of tour sites, with more added periodically.

The audio tours and accompanying maps are downloadable, so you don't need to worry about burning through mobile data or needing to rely on Wi-Fi. Rick Steve Audio Europe is free to download and available from the App Store and from Google Play.

How many trips come vividly back to life in your mind just by thinking about that one excellent bowl of Cacio e Pepe pasta or sun-drenched sip of a Paloma? Exploring a place through its flavors and discovering new spots to eat is a beloved part of travel. In Europe, TheFork (the French version is called LaForchette) is the go-to app for crowd-sourced restaurant reviews. Previously, the app also covered Australia, but at the start of 2024, it was announced they will be pulling out of Oz.

You can find Michelin-starred restaurants with months-long wait lists or little hole-in-the-wall spots by searching the name of the eating establishment, the city or neighborhood you want to eat in, or the kind of cuisine you are craving.

The app is worthy of its space on your phone just for the restaurant listings and reviews, but if you want to explore more of the capabilities, there are ways to expand its usefulness. You can make reservations, register to collect points, access discounts and specials at select spots, and pay through the app. TheFork is free to download and available from the App Store and from Google Play.

Looking for a little love on the road? The Fairytrail app might be the ticket to romance (or ROAMance) you are looking for. Aimed at digital nomads and van life devotees, the app is a nice addition to the dating lives of travelers of all stripes. Members are evaluated and assigned a fairytale character similar to enneagram-slash-Myers-Briggs personality types, which is a new and novel approach compared with other iPhone dating apps or Android dating apps .

Because the app is focused on people with nomadic lifestyles, matches are location-independent. The idea is that users of the app will be willing to travel to each other to meet and date. There is a setting that allows an extra layer of matching: dream places to visit. If you so choose, before chatting with a match you need to have an overlapping "bucket-list" destination. Previously, this was an unavoidable step but became an optional setting after it was changed in response to frustration expressed by reviewers. The app is being redesigned in 2024 and soliciting feedback from users. Stay tuned, it seems more happy endings are in store! Fairytrails is free to download with in-app purchases and is available from the App Store and from Google Play.

Price Scanner And Converter

A very unpleasant aspect of vacationing in another country is coming home to a shocking credit card bill. Part of the problem is the tendency of holidaymakers to spend like money isn't real, but the other problem is how difficult it is to calculate prices into your own currency. Sure, you can come up with shortcuts to do quick math, but that gives you an estimate rather than an exact cost. To help, there are many different currency converter apps out there, with features like real-time rate calculation and offline capability. The somewhat clunky-named Price Scanner and Converter takes it one step further by using your phone's camera to scan prices and display them automatically in your preferred currency (out of 150 global currencies.) New iPhone cameras also have a similar capability, but it isn't as seamless a process as using this app.

This price scanning app isn't presently available on Google Play, although there are similar apps to be found. The reviews are pretty overwhelmingly mediocre, so if you are on team Android, your best bet may be to download a regular currency converter and enter in prices the old-fashioned way.

Downloading the Price Scanner and Converter is free from the App Store.

Searching through your emails for confirmations and itineraries isn't an efficient way to access your travel information. And good luck if you have used your work email for some of your planning and your personal email for others. What if you are offline when you need to find your tour details? Nightmare fuel. Tripit has created a simple user experience, allowing you to forward all those endless travel planning emails to be arranged into an easily accessible itinerary in a single spot, which you can access from any of your devices.

Other features of this include the ability to load PDFs, QR codes, and other travel documents to your Tripit travel folder. There are helpful navigation tools, like airport maps, neighborhood safety ratings, and nearby places. You can share your travel plans and sync them to your calendar. For $49 a year (or a free 30-day trial) you can upgrade to Tripit Pro for enhanced travel aid, including notifications to help keep you on track and on time. 

Tripit is free to download from the App Store and from Google Play, and you can upgrade to the premium Tripit Pro on the Tripit website or in the app.

Mobile Passport Control

The latest app from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol goes by the wildly creative name, " Mobile Passport Control ." It's a no-nonsense app with a no-nonsense name that allows users to streamline the customs experience. Rather than filling out declarations forms, users enter their information into the app and send it to border officials so they can access it as soon as they get to customs. You can do this immediately upon arrival, say as your plane is taxiing to the gate.

The app is for United States citizens and Canadians with a B-1 or B-2 visitor visa who are entering the USA at one of 33 American airports, 11 preclearance sites, and four seaports. It works in tandem with your passport, but it doesn't replace it.

As a bonus, some sites allow those with the Mobile Passport Control app to use their own (almost always shorter!) line or expedited Global Entry lines at passport control. You can enter family members on the same app and there is no approval process, just download and go.

A previous iteration of the app had a premium, paid version, but this is no longer the case. The app is free on the App Store and Google Play.

I Found an Off-Grid Paradise at a Cozy Catskills Retreat

Like many of us, I often work too hard and don’t rest enough. This leads to a vicious cycle of burnout, and every now and then, I dream of truly getting away from it all to a place with no cell service, to be in the middle of the woods where I simply cannot be bothered. Luckily, magical places like this actually exist even for people who live in New York City. Case in point: Eastwind Hotel Oliverea Valley in the Catskills hamlet of Big Indian.

Listen, I’m going to be frank: Eastwind Oliverea Valley is not the typical place I’d choose to travel to. I like far-flung destinations around the globe in bustling cities and remote islands where an unfamiliar language is spoken. The Catskills never really spoke to me because at the end of the day, I’m a city girl through and through. But those dreams of wanting to go off-grid started to live too frequently in my head, so I decided to take a chance and book a style of trip that is fairly out of character for someone with my adrenaline levels.

Getting There

I drove to Big Indian, New York, and I knew I was really in for an off-grid respite when I received a text the morning I was meant to check in.

“Hello, Kaitlyn! Thank you for choosing to stay at Eastwind Oliverea Valley,” the text began. “You may lose service along the way so make sure Wi-Fi calling is turned on and your map is downloaded.”

That message proved to be true. I lost cell service and though this would typically send a workaholic like myself into a panic, there was something immediately freeing about being completely unreachable.

As I turned onto McKenley Hollow Road, the road in which Eastwind Hotel resides, I was greeted with plenty of hiking trails, trees, rivers, and even a cemetery. After about a mile, I reached my home for the next few nights.

On property, there are A-frame houses perched along the mountains, more traditional houses that feel very log cabin chic, and one area designated for a more “hotel-like” experience with 27 rooms total.

The wooden A-Frame houses are definitely the creme de la creme here. Known as Lushna cabins, they were imported from Slovenia and have a Scandinavian-style design. Each one is simply equipped with a queen bed, with restrooms available outside. While I may not be a country-living girl, these are some of the most unique sleeping arrangements I’ve seen in all of my travels. For the Lushna rooms, you can book simply a Lushna, a Lushna with a deck, a Lushna Suite (which additionally has a sofa, writer’s nook, en-suite bathroom, and mini fridge), or a Lushna Double with two rooms connected by a private deck.

Visiting Eastwind Oliverea Valley was already a stretch out of my comfort zone so I didn’t book the Lushna, though looking back, I wish I had. Instead, I booked a King Room with a loft. The selling point for me was the hammock built on the top floor, which, like the Lushna rooms, was one of the most unique features I’ve seen in a hotel. I sometimes like to rot in bed when staying at hotels by binge-watching South Park, but those dreams were crushed quickly when I learned there were no TVs. See what I mean? Truly off-grid.

It would be redundant to have to drive off property for pretty much anything when my whole point of visiting was to treat this as a proper hideaway. Luckily, there’s no need, because Eastwind Oliverea Valley has a pristine restaurant, Dandelion, right on premise. I first sat by the bar to have a glass of wine and eventually moved over to a table to enjoy a proper meal. The motto of Dandelion is “forage to fork,” using only the freshest of seasonal produce. Because I was there in the summer, I was fortunate enough that they had stracciatella with heirloom tomatoes on the menu, served alongside crusty grilled bread. The plump tomatoes paired with the creamy cheese and charred bread still lives in my head rent free.

There are also breakfast baskets which you can order directly to your room, and they’re as charming as they sound. Each basket includes yogurt, fruit, your choice of coffee or tea (with the option for a non-dairy milk), a boiled egg, and some pastries. At night, make sure to swing by the lobby to grab one of the pre-packaged “s’mores kits,” with each having a marshmallow, graham cracker, and bar of chocolate, where you can roast marshmallows by one of the several fire pits right on premise.

The Amenities

Aside from a fabulous restaurant and adorable fire pits, Eastwind Oliverea Valley is the epitome of a wellness retreat thanks to its amenities. There are two saunas to choose from, a standard Scandinavian-style dry sauna, along with an infrared sauna. If you want to get your heart pumping, McKenley Hollow Trail, a 2.47 mile moderate hiking trail, can be reached right from property. If it’s rainy and you still want to get those steps in, head to Hunter Closet, where you can borrow Hunter Rain Boots.

Additionally, there are hammocks on premise to really drive the relaxing factor home. Rent a bike if you want to explore outside of the property, and if you want to bring your furry friend, you’ll be glad to know dogs are allowed with a fee of $50 per dog per day. And while I might have secretly enjoyed the rush of having no cell service, there is indeed WiFi should you need to stay connected.

Bottom line.

Is it worth driving to the middle of the Catskills to spend a few nights? In this capitalistic, hustle-induced culture, I can’t emphasize enough how much it’s worth it. Though I went in with an open mind as this was a new style of travel for me, I left with a sadness that I had to face reality ever again. Luckily, my new reality will now incorporate more stays like my relaxing time at Eastwind Oliverea Valley, where I can truly get away from it all.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wrapped up their latest international trip on Sunday.

The couple went to Colombia at the invitation of the nation's vice president, Francia Márquez, and they spoke at the Responsible Digital Future Summit at Universidad Ean on August 15.

Their visit to Colombia marked their second international tour of the year, following their trip to Nigeria in May.

Harry and Meghan received backlash for both trips in UK tabloids, with some outlets questioning why the couple is going on trips that look a lot like royal tours despite stepping back as working royals in 2020.

But looking back at their time as working royals together and their individual lives highlights that international service trips are nothing unusual for Harry or Meghan.

Representatives for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Harry and Meghan have a long history of international work

Royal commentator Kristen Meinzer told Business Insider that international trips with a service focus aren't new for Harry or Meghan.

As a member of the royal family, Harry spent his entire life accompanying his parents on royal tours, and as an adult, he served in the Royal Air Force, which also took him around the globe. He is also the founding patron of the Invictus Games , which occur in a different country yearly.

Meanwhile, Meghan studied international relations at Northwestern in addition to theater, and she worked with global organizations like World Vision , One Young World, and even the United Nations before she became a royal.

"Before they were even together, they both had a passion for charity and philanthropy and making goodwill visits to other countries," Meinzer said. "It's something that Harry was trained to do his whole life."

"And I think it's interesting that when other people like George Clooney or Beyoncé do the same kind of thing, they aren't raked over the coals," Meinzer said of Harry and Meghan's international advocacy.

As working royals, Harry and Meghan went on multiple royal tours together, where they flexed their ability to connect with communities in other countries.

For instance, Harry said it was "effortless" for Meghan to connect with locals on their 2018 royal tour of Australia, and they both appeared more relaxed during their 2019 tour of Africa compared to other royals on similar trips.

As they revealed in their docuseries "Harry & Meghan," the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hoped they could continue serving as working royals outside the UK by relocating to a commonwealth nation like New Zealand, South Africa, or Canada instead of stepping down in 2020.

"We thought it would be good to give ourselves some breathing space, but also we were really passionate about continuing our work throughout the Commonwealth, to support the Queen," Harry said on the series.

Harry said their 2019 move to South Africa was scrapped after details of the plan were published in The Times . Subsequently, Harry's email proposal to move to Canada was leaked to The Sun in January 2020. A day after the story was published, Harry and Meghan announced they were stepping back as senior royals .

By June 2020, the two had settled in Montecito, California, where they now raise their two children.

These trips aren't designed to promote the Commonwealth, but they do serve a purpose

When they went on international trips together as working royals, Harry and Meghan were ambassadors for the Commonwealth. Today, they promote causes they are passionate about when they visit.

"I think that something else that's a little bit off about the narrative is a lot of the tabloid media is trying to depict them as like, 'Oh, they're just trying to pretend they're still royal,'" Meinzer said. "But they're actually going to these places upon invitation."

For instance, Márquez invited Harry and Meghan to Colombia to discuss how to create a "healthier and more ethical digital landscape," as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared on their website , and they visited Nigeria in May because the country has expressed interest in hosting the Invictus Games .

"They're not doing anything that is inflammatory by accepting invitations to raise the public awareness of certain causes," Meinzer added. "It's just a non-issue."

Despite the tabloid criticism of their international trips, the visits offer a new path for Harry and Meghan, who have struggled to find long-term momentum in their media ventures, as Business Insider previously reported.

Indeed, Evan Nierman, the CEO and founder of the global PR firm Red Banyan , told BI that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's tell-alls about the royal family — from their Netflix series to Harry's memoir "Spare" — don't pack the same punch anymore .

But international diplomacy is Meghan and Harry's bread and butter. Whether the UK tabloid press agrees, leaning into a skillset and a passion they both have is the right move for them.

FAA refers more in-air crimes to FBI for investigation. What to do if you see misconduct

The Federal Aviation Administration continues to refer cases of air rage to the FBI, and the agency said it’s 43 unruly passenger incidents for investigation in the past year. 

“There’s absolutely no excuse for unruly behavior,” FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker said in a statement. “It threatens the safety of everyone on board and we have zero tolerance for it.”   

Among the cases submitted in the last year are incidents of assault, sexually inappropriate behavior and multiple attempts by passengers to breach the flight deck or open exit doors. 

According to the FAA, some of the referred incidents include: 

  • A passenger who exhibited sexually inappropriate behavior toward a crewmember on Feb. 13. 
  • A passenger who inappropriately touched a minor passenger on June 21, 2013.
  • A passenger who physically and sexually assaulted flight attendants and fellow passengers on Nov. 15, 2021. 

“Dangerous passengers put everyone at risk.” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement. “Unruly travelers face stiff fines from the FAA and possible criminal prosecution too.”   

Passengers who exhibit unruly conduct on a plane can face civil penalties up to $37,000 per violation but can also face criminal prosecution if the FAA refers the case to the FBI. 

According to the FAA, it has referred more than 310 cases for criminal investigation since 2021. 

The FBI has guidelines on its website for reporting criminal offenses that take place on airplanes.

What to do if you see a passenger misbehaving 

If you witness crimes on a plane, especially those that involve sexual misconduct , experts say you should help document the incident and try to distract the assailant, as well as report it to cabin crew members or other authorities.
