Back for his final outing as the Travel Man, Richard Ayoade dashes to Dubrovnik with comedy colossus Stephen Merchant.

This time, Richard is joined by comedian Lee Mack for a funny, yet surprisingly informative, 48 hours in Brussels - featuring culture, comics, pralines, puppets and attractions both large and small, including the Grand Place and the famous atom-shaped Atomium. There's also waffles, mussels - including Moules Genghis Khan - and the secrets of chocolate making.

Richard Ayoade is joined by comic actor and writer Robert Webb - the destination Madeira. Later, there's a pricey helicopter ride and a trip to the casino - in a bid to win back the budget overspend on the helicopter.
In an hour-long Christmas extravaganza, Richard and Mad Men actor Jon Hamm tour Hong Kong, taking in a tai chi drop-in session, a ride in a chopper and some fusion dim sum.

Richard Ayoade is joined by comedian Sara Pascoe for a two day test of the mini break merits of Valencia. Together they ruthlessly examine Spain's third largest city, taking in its history, parks, architecture, culture and cuisine, as well as falling under the powerful spell of local cocktail agua de Valencia.
Richard Ayoade and comedian Joe Lycett head to the mini break mecca of Amsterdam for a 48 hour hurtle through the city's attractions. In just two days the pair power through culture, cardio, canals, cuisine and much more, not all of it beginning with a 'c'.
Richard Ayoade and actress Sally Phillips head to Stockholm for a fulsome 48 hours in the Swedish capital. Together they scale rooftops, sing Abba, eat Swedish-Danish, and stay up late playing on their phones.
Comedian Rob Beckett joins Richard Ayoade in Russia's cultural capital, for a post-Soviet itinerary including an armoured tank, caviar, vodka, and a herring in a fur coat.
Richard and comedian Aisling Bea make a whirlwind tour of Hungary's fairy-tale capital, with selfies, goulash, cake, pubs, liquor, and a game of chess at the thermal baths.
Richard Ayoade packs his case and heads to the Canaries to discover what lies beyond the all-inclusive resorts of the volcanic island of Tenerife. Making the trip from LA to join him is writer, director and actor, Lena Dunham.
Richard and Rhod Gilbert's high-speed visit to Florida's famous hot spot takes in art, art deco, alligators, speedboats, an airboat tour of the everglades - and dominoes.
Hollywood actor Rebel Wilson joins Richard for a fun-packed whizz round Florence in a mini-break mixing art, action, gelato, a drive in a classic Alfa Romeo, and some tripe.
Richard and comedian Katherine Ryan take a fast and funny trip to New York. Their overflowing schedule includes skyscrapers, roller blades, museums, ferries, show-tunes and cronuts.

Actor and comedian Adam Buxton joins Richard for a high-speed tour of Portugal's capital, with trams, rickshaw, funicular and fado, and a visit to a doll hospital.
Watch Richard and Jack Dee take a trip to Naples featuring humor, history, culture, pizza, Vespas and chaotic traffic, a trip to Capri, and a guide to the meaning of dreams.
Richard goes to Vienna with comedian Chris O'Dowd to sample the sausages, cakes, wines and spirits. The pair also take a hot-rod tour, visit a fairground, the Freud museum and the city sewers.

Chaos in Dubai as UAE records heaviest rainfall in 75 years
C haos ensued in the United Arab Emirates after the country witnessed the heaviest rainfall in 75 years, with some areas recording more than 250 mm (around 10 inches) of precipitation in fewer than 24 hours, the state’s media office said in a statement Wednesday .
The rainfall, which flooded streets, uprooted palm trees and shattered building facades, has never been seen in the Middle Eastern nation since records began in 1949 . In the popular tourist destination Dubai, flights were canceled, traffic came to a halt and schools closed.
One-hundred millimeters (nearly 4 inches) of rain fell over the course of just 12 hours on Tuesday, according to weather observations at the airport – around what Dubai usually records in an entire year , according to United Nations data.
The rain fell so heavily and so quickly that some motorists were forced to abandon their vehicles as the floodwater rose and roads turned into rivers.
Extreme rainfall events like this are becoming more common as the atmosphere warms due to human-driven climate change . A warmer atmosphere is able to soak up more moisture like a towel and then ring it out in the form of flooding rainfall.
The weather conditions were associated with a larger storm system traversing the Arabian Peninsula and moving across the Gulf of Oman. This same system is also bringing unusually wet weather to nearby Oman and southeastern Iran.
In Oman, at least 18 were killed in flash floods triggered by heavy rain, the country’s National Committee for Emergency Management said . Casualties included schoolchildren, according to Oman’s state news agency.
A 70-year-old man died after flooding swept away his vehicle in the UAE’s Ras Al-Khaimah, a police statement said on Tuesday.
The rainfall continued to shift east Wednesday, impacting parts of southern Iran and Pakistan, areas that see little rainfall this time of year. Iran’s southernmost city of Chabahar, in the Sistan and Baluchestan province, recorded 130 mm of rain.
People attempting to travel by road into the center of Dubai on Wednesday were trapped on the city’s highway. Some taxi drivers refused to take the commuters any further due to the blocked roads, rendering them stuck on the main artery in Dubai.
Commuters were seen walking across the road through giant puddles, trying to find alternative methods of transportation. Some of those stuck had travelled from abroad to Dubai to attend the World Blockchain Summit, a crypto conference scheduled for early next week.
Airport operations disrupted
Shocking video showed the tarmac of Dubai International Airport – recently crowned the second-busiest airport in the world – underwater as massive aircraft attempt to navigate floodwaters . Large jets looked more like boats moving through the flooded airport as water sprayed in their wake and waves rippled through the deep water.
Disruption to airport operations continued into Wednesday, after the storm had cleared, with access roads blocked by flooding and multiple airlines including flag carrier Emirates reporting flight delays. Budget airline Flydubai canceled all flights until 10 a.m. local time Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, Dubai International advised people to “ NOT to come to the airport, unless absolutely necessary,” saying flights continue to be delayed and diverted.
Emirates suspended check-in for passengers departing Dubai from 8 a.m. local time on Wednesday until midnight on Thursday due to “operational challengers caused by bad weather and road conditions.”
Some 134 million passengers flew through the UAE’s airports last year, including 87 million traveling through Dubai International Airport alone. The UAE is home to approximately 10 million people. The UAE is a hub for five airlines.
Video shared on social media showed furniture flying off balconies. In the Dubai Marina, a manmade canal lined with skyscrapers and retail outlets, furniture from nearby restaurants could be seen washed away by strong currents.
“The kids were hungry, and I as a mother was getting very anxious and upset,” she told CNN.
Images published in local media showed traffic gridlocked on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, a 16-lane thoroughfare. Luxury cars were seen almost entirely submerged in the Business Bay district that is home to apartment buildings, offices and retail outlets. A Dubai Metro station was flooded with commuters having to wade through ankle-deep water.
Delivery services stopped functioning and many Dubai residents were unable to leave their homes due to waterlogged streets, which cars and pedestrians couldn’t access. Some residents were seen rowing canoes outside their homes, and one viral video on social media showed residents wake boarding on a flooded street in a residential area.
Other videos from social media showed water rushing through a major shopping mall and inundating the ground floor of homes.
Madiha Khawaja, a tourist visiting from London with her husband and two children, aged two and four, said she felt “helpless” trying to calm her children amid the chaos.
The rain had disrupted building lifts, including in some of Dubai’s tallest skyscrapers. Khawaja said she spent 45 minutes taking the stairs to her 27th floor apartment in the heart of Dubai to find rest and shelter for her toddlers.
The journey was “grueling,” she said, adding that “upon reaching our apartment with hungry and tired kids, we were met with dry taps, no drinking water, no telephone service, no WiFi connection.”
An official at the UAE’s National Center of Meteorology was cited by local newspaper The National as saying that the rain was not caused by cloud seeding , putting to rest rumors that the chaos was man-made. CNN has reached out to the center for comment.
The practice is meant to enhance rainfall in arid or semi-arid regions and entails the “seeding” of existing clouds with substances that eventually help the clouds induce rain. The UAE has been cloud-seeding since the 1990s and has been doing it regularly over the past few years.
Like the rest of the Persian Gulf region, Dubai has a hot and dry climate. As such, rainfall is infrequent, and the city’s infrastructure often fails to handle extreme weather events.
CNN’s Abbas Al Lawati, Teele Rebane, Kathleen Magramo, Mostafa Salem, Sophie Tanno and team Eleni Giokos contributed reporting.

Dubai rains: 3 flights from Kerala cancelled, several delayed
New Delhi: The United Arab Emirates was on a drying-out process this Wednesday following the unprecedented downpour that inundated the region. Dubai International Airport bore the brunt of the deluge, resulting in flight disruptions at the world's busiest hub for international travel. Many flights from Kerala to Dubai were cancelled and delayed as a result.
The state-run WAM news agency called the rain Tuesday a historic weather event that surpassed anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949. That's before the discovery of crude oil in this energy-rich nation then part of a British protectorate known as the Trucial States.
Rain also fell in Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. However, the rains were acute across the UAE. Flights from India to Dubai have been disrupted significantly as heavy rains resulted in flooding of the emirate's airport, also one of the world's busiest airports.

Apart from Air India, Air India Express, Vistara, IndiGo and SpiceJet also operate flights from various Indian cities to Dubai, which is also home to a large number of Indian diaspora. An Air India spokesperson said due to the impact of adverse weather in Dubai, it had to cancel flights to and from the Gulf nation on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Delhi to Dubai flights Meanwhile, an official said 10 flights from the Delhi airport to Dubai were cancelled on Wednesday. Also, nine flights that were to arrive from Dubai to the national capital were cancelled. Details about cancelled flights could not be immediately ascertained.
"Inclement weather has impacted air travel to the UAE, causing delays and diversions. Three to four of our flights on the 16th and 17th were among those delayed. We regret the inconvenience and have offered the option of a full refund or free rescheduling to all impacted guests," an Air India Express spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday.
In a post on X on Wednesday, IndiGo said all flights to and from Dubai stand cancelled due to operational challenges caused by bad weather and road conditions. SpiceJet, in a post on X, said flights to and from Dubai are affected due to adverse weather conditions in Dubai. There was no statement from Vistara.

Dubai is flooded within a few minutes after incredibly intense storm
Share this with
There has been major disruption in Dubai this afternoon, with planes seen splashing through water at the main airport.
Operations at DXB were suspended for 25 minutes due to the intense storm, with a total of 21 outbound and 24 inbound flights cancelled as well as three flights diverted to other neighboring airports, a spokesperson told Gulf News.
Operations have since restarted, Dubai International Airport added.
People had been braced for bad weather in the Gulf state, with Dubai Police putting out a safety warning yesterday telling people to avoid the beaches as well as valleys which could flood.
This was due to ‘rains, strong winds, thunder, lightning, and sometimes hail, reducing visibility’, they said.
Social media this afternoon was filled with dramatic videos of flooded roads.
One man posted video from his car window showing the road more like a fast-flowing river on X, writing: ‘This is not what I expected in Dubai! My condolences to the Rolls Royce owner!’

Due to upcoming weather conditions, we have instructed all Dubai Government entities and private schools to work remotely on Tuesday, April 16. — Hamdan bin Mohammed (@HamdanMohammed) April 15, 2024
Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan pronounced that government employees should work remotely where possible due to the bad weather today, while private schools should switch to distance learning.
Dubai is more generally known for its hot and dry desert weather, with the average temperature in April 33ºC.
However, flash flooding can be deadly, especially if people are in the vicinity of dry riverbeds known as ‘wadi’ in Arabic, which can quickly fill with water and wash away vehicles and bystanders.

Dubai’s flooding comes a day after heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in Oman on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, killing at least 17 people as rescuers searched for survivors.
In one incident, a group of school children and a driver died when their vehicle was overtaken, authorities said.
The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) stated that the current unsettled weather in the region is expected to last until tomorrow.

Melbourne man among those stranded in dubai airport following flash flooding.
Aussies stuck in Dubai airport after flooding
Hundreds of Australians have become stranded in Dubai airport after a year’s worth of rain caused flash flooding on Tuesday, resulting in major delays and closures across parts of the city.
Victorian man, Kris*, was travelling to Malta via Dubai on an Emirates flight that left Melbourne’s Tullamarine airport on April 16.

The plane circled Dubai for an hour, before being diverted to nearby Al Maktoum International Airport, where they were forced to wait seated on the plane for five hours, Kris’s wife Monique told 7NEWS.com.au.
After finally getting the all clear to fly the 20 minutes to Dubai, the passengers were again held on the plane for a further five-and-a-half hours without explanation.
This is where the situation slowly began to deteriorate, Monique says.
Passengers were told they couldn’t get up to use the bathrooms and food began being rationed as flight attendants began limiting what supplies they gave out — flight attendants themselves were becoming irritated and upset at the delays.
At this point Kris, his fellow passengers and flight staff had been on the plane for over 23 agonising hours.
By the time they were allowed to disembark, the full situation of what was happening in the airport and in Dubai began to hit them.
Kris and his fellow passengers were told there were no flights going in or out of Dubai, and were instructed to head to a “Dubai Connects” customer service desk, where they would be provided with free accommodation, transport and food vouchers.
However, the reality was another five-hour wait in line.
“There was no organisation at all,” Monique said.
“People were pushing in front, getting really aggressive, there was no security.”
Kris, who was travelling alone, said he would lose his place in the queue if he needed to the bathroom or to get food.
“The queue got so bad, so tightly packed, he was unable to breathe anymore,” Monique said.
Parents, travelling with crying children, were exhausted, taking turns sleeping on the floor or standing in line.
Ordeal not over yet
Meanwhile, back home in Melbourne, Monique rushed to the couple’s travel agent at Flight Centre to help her husband —but the travel company also failed to get in contact with the airline.
“We were told they can’t get staff into the airport to help.”
In the end, Kris was one of the lucky ones — after trying his luck at an immigration desk, he was given permission to leave the airport.
A friend of Kris’s who lives in Dubai was able to offer him a place to sleep and shower.
However, many others remain stranded at the airport.
With no access to luggage, and no flight on the horizon, Kris, like many travellers, remains stuck in Dubai for the foreseeable future.
Aussie swimmers stuck at airport
Twenty Australian swimmers, including South Australian Paralympian Izzy Vincent, on their way to championships in Portugal, were also among those stuck in Dubai airport.
“There has been no communication from the airline, no airport announcement, Emirates has also disabled their online chat and Dubai information line so (there is) no communication,” Monique said.
Customers reported being hung-up on over the phone, and online check-ins being closed for connecting flights.
“Dubai airport is currently just chaos and leaving many stranded.”
“With many families just sleeping on the floor of the airport, as they simply don’t have the energy to even wait in these lines with no communication from the airport,” Monique said.
Emirates was contacted for comment.
