During the years that we called San Antonio home, we spent the majority of our weekends traipsing around Central Texas, seeking out the best day trips from San Antonio along the way!

From small towns to state parks, we ended up experiencing some incredible San Antonio day trips–many of which we have continually returned to in the years since.

All of these San Antonio day trips are within a couple of hours of the city, making them easy to fit into one day, and include something for every interest.

Keep in mind, though, that the driving distance calculated in this post is based on traveling from downtown San Antonio with minimal traffic, so your driving commitment may vary dramatically depending on your starting point!

City + Small Town Day Trips from San Antonio

If you’re looking for an adorable small town or fun city, these are the best day trips from San Antonio for you!

Fredericksburg

Known for its prevalent German heritage, fantastic peaches , and many, many wineries , Fredericksburg is the perfect getaway for wine lovers.

With plenty of vineyards to choose from, not to mention a plethora of great restaurants, shops, distilleries, and nearby hikes, Fredericksburg is easily among the top day trips from San Antonio.

While you’re there, be sure to visit a vineyard or two, browse the shops on Main Street, tuck into a delicious German-style meal, and climb Enchanted Rock!

Nearby attractions like Old Tunnel State Park and Luckenbach are well worth a visit, too.

Johnson City

Known for its proximity to Pedernales Falls State Park, charming downtown center, and Lights Spectacular display each December, Johnson City is a delight of a Hill Country town!

This is also where you’ll find the homestead of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s grandparents, though the town is not named for the family–just a lucky coincidence.

Be sure to check out the wine castle–yes, you read that right–while you’re here.

As arguably the best-known city in Texas on the national and international tourism scene, Austin is an incredibly fun day trip from San Antonio.

However, as someone who has driven the (supposedly) less than 1.5-hour route between the two cities dozens of times, let me warn you: the traffic between Austin and San Antonio is notoriously terrible, so try to plan your drives for well outside of rush hour!

If you do make the drive, though, you’ll find no lack of fun things to do in Austin!

Perusing the street art and boutiques around South Congress , watching the bats fly out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge, touring the state capitol, climbing Mount Bonnell , and enjoying Austin’s famous live music scene are just a few things that might be on your agenda!

1 hour, 40 minutes.

Castroville

Located just outside of San Antonio, Castroville is an easy day trip that offers a little slice of France in Texas.

Founded by Alsatian immigrants (located in today’s northeastern France) in the mid-nineteenth century, Castroville’s visitor’s center is housed in a genuine 17th-century French home that was relocated to Texas in the 1990s.

The town also features plenty of other Alsatian-inspired architecture, an Alsatian bakery, and even a Texas state historic site!

The adorable small town of Boerne, Texas proudly wears its German heritage on its sleeve and is one of the easiest day trips from San Antonio.

It’s located so close to the city that some Boerne residents even commute into San Antonio for work (something we once strongly considered ourselves when house hunting).

With a beautiful downtown packed with restaurants and antique shops, cool caves to explore, and plenty of year-round festivals to hit up, Boerne is a fun and simple way to enjoy a classic small Texas town without traveling far.

Known as the “barbecue capital of Texas”, be sure to come hungry when you head out to Lockhart on a day trip from San Antonio!

Smitty’s, Kreuz, and Black’s are among the most legendary barbecue spots in the area, but Lockhart is also home to plenty of breweries and a big helping of small-town Texas charm.

Be sure to also check out the gorgeous Caldwell County Courthouse (widely considered one of the most beautiful in the state) while you’re there!

1 hour, 5 minutes.

Shiner beer is a staple of Texas bars and barbecues everywhere!

… And, in the small town of Shiner, Texas, you can tour the Spoetzl Brewery and learn all about the process of making the classic drink.

You can even sample some while you’re at it!

1 hour, 30 minutes.

Famously home to some of the biggest and best Texas trade days around, Round Top is the place to be if you want to go antiquing near San Antonio!

While the major antique fairs are held a couple of times a year, there is plenty of shopping to go around on a daily basis.

Be sure to stop by Royers Pie Haven for one of their famously delicious slices when you need a break from shopping!

St. Martin’s Catholic Church , the smallest operating Catholic Church in the world, is worth a peek when you’re nearby, too!

2 hours, 5 minutes.

Dripping Springs

Located just outside of Austin and nestled in the Texas Hill Country, the small town of Dripping Springs is primarily known for two things: weddings and the Hamilton Pool.

The many wineries surrounding Dripping Springs make it a prime wedding venue in Texas, though of course its vineyards, distilleries, and even olive farm all make the town worth visiting even without a wedding.

Then, of course, there’s Instagram-famous Hamilton Pool, the natural pool that was carved out of limestone when a river caved in thousands of years ago, leaving a refreshing hangout (complete with a 50-foot waterfall!) behind for generations of Texans to enjoy.

1 hour, 25 minutes.

Schulenburg

Above all, Schulenburg is known for its collection of beautiful painted churches, each with a detailed interior that is a work of art in its own right.

Primarily built in the 19th century by German and Czech immigrants, these painted churches are one of Texas’ historical treasures, and they make an excellent San Antonio day trip!

Home to just 3 official residents, the positively minuscule town of Luckenbach is well-known as a country music hotspot, with a popular dance hall and far more live shows than one would expect from a town of merely 3 people!

Luckenbach is only a short drive from Fredericksburg, so you can also combine the two for a multi-stop San Antonio day trip!

Quirky Wimberley is known for its whimsy, its painted boots that decorate the town, its many art galleries, and its impressive swimming holes (two of them, Jacob’s Well and the Blue Hole , rank among the most famous swimming holes in central Texas ).

It also happens to be one of our personal favorite towns in the Texas Hill Country and absolutely one of the best day trips from San Antonio!

Keep in mind that if you’d like to hit up one of its famous swimming holes, you’ll need to make reservations well in advance.

Even traveling at the last minute, though, Wimberley is worth the drive.

Don’t forget to make the (very short) climb up Old Baldy for a great view of the Hill Country while you’re there!

Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park

Located in blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Stonewall, Texas, the famous LBJ Ranch and Texas White House are fantastic places to visit near San Antonio for anyone interested in American history!

While the Johnson Family Homestead in Johnson City is technically part of the historic site, the Stonewall section is much larger.

Here, you’ll find the still-working LBJ Ranch (complete with cattle), a scenic drive, the birthplace of Lyndon B. Johnson, Air Force 1 and a 1/2 (the plane the president used to travel from DC to the ranch regularly), and so much more.

Be sure to tour the famous Texas White House while you’re there!

Technically, Gruene isn’t a small town in its own right, but rather a historic district in the city of New Braunfels .

However, that wasn’t always the case, and to this day, visitors come from all over Texas to enjoy Gruene!

Known for being home to Gruene Hall, the oldest continually operating dance hall in Texas, Gruene is a Hill Country favorite with locals and visitors alike.

This small town is both shady and walkable (both enormous wins in Texas), and packed with shops, restaurants (Gristmill, which is housed in an old cotton gin overlooking the river, is among the best), and access to tubing on the Guadalupe River.

If you’re looking for a short road trip from San Antonio that will allow you to explore a small town in the morning and go tubing in the afternoon, Gruene is the perfect stop.

Nature-Focused Day Trips from San Antonio

Looking to enjoy a bit of nature near San Antonio?

These San Antonio day trips include some of the best natural beauty in the area–but you don’t need to leave the San Antonio area at all to find beautiful hikes.

If you’re looking for a quick hike but don’t want to travel outside the city, Government Canyon State Natural Area and Friedrich Wilderness Park were our two favorite places to hike within San Antonio, and we visited them dozens of times each.

Guadalupe River State Park

Floating the river is a time-honored tradition all over Texas–and nearby Guadalupe River State Park is one of the most accessible places to float near San Antonio.

For those not inclined to grab a tube, the park has some lovely hiking as well.

Pedernales Falls State Park

With plenty of places to both hike and swim, Pedernales Falls is an incredibly fun place to enjoy the great outdoors.

It’s also located right next door to Johnson City, which it can be combined with for a great San Antonio day trip that balances multiple interests.

While you can’t swim in the main falls themselves, there are places to swim in the park, so be sure to pack your suit!

Cascade Caverns

The stunning Cascade Caverns are located just a few miles south of Boerne and date back 140 million years, making them a fascinating place to visit.

While the typical daily tours are very interesting, if you’re the adventurous sort and can get a group together for the tour through the lower cave system, we highly recommend it.

Even after traveling full-time for years through nearly 50 countries, we still consider our spelunking tour of Cascade Caverns to be one of our favorite tours that we’ve ever taken!

Garner State Park

Located on the beautiful Frio River, Garner State Park makes an excellent day trip for visitors looking to hike, swim, or float the Frio River (which we personally loved to do there).

We are a bit biased, but Garner State Park is one of our favorite state parks near San Antonio , and it makes an absolutely sublime day trip!

1 hour, 35 minutes.

Lost Maples State Park

Lost Maples, as you can probably guess from the name alone, is best known for its stunning fall foliage–but it’s a beautiful place to hike and explore year-round!

Given that this is Texas, if you are aiming for the best foliage , you’ll want to head out a bit later than in many parts of the country!

The foliage tends to peak in November, but use the foliage tracker to know what you’re getting into before setting off.

Natural Bridge Caverns

Named for its famous, naturally occurring, 60-foot limestone bridge, the Natural Bridge Caverns as we know them today were discovered in 1960, and are part of the largest cave system in Texas that is open to the public.

With a wide variety of tours to choose from (varying in both price and intensity), there’s a visit to Natural Bridge Caverns that works for everyone.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Enormous, pink, and mostly free of vegetation, Enchanted Rock is unmissable as you approach it.

Made of granite and soaring 425 feet into the air, summiting Enchanted Rock is a classic Texas Hill Country experience.

The hike doesn’t take long, but it is very unprotected, so be sure to bring a hat and plenty of water, especially if you’re hiking on a hot summer day.

Enchanted Rock can be visited independently on a day trip from San Antonio, or combined with a stop in nearby Fredericksburg.

Canyon Lake

Beautiful Canyon Lake, located on the Guadalupe River and known for being an excellent place to hit the water, is one of the most popular day trips from San Antonio and an excellent place to cool off on those brutal summer days.

It also happens to be home to several of the best beaches near San Antonio !

With beautiful turquoise water, plenty of swimming and hiking opportunities, and easy access to other beautiful spots like New Braunfels and the Guadalupe River, you will definitely find plenty of fun things to do in and around Canyon Lake for a day!

We have friends in San Antonio and we love to visit. There are so many great things to see and do in the city (the missions & trail, Japanese garden, River walk, Briscoe Museum, just to name a few) and surrounding area. We have been to several of the day trips on your list and we will definitely check out some of the others the next time we are there (restrictions permitting). Happy travels!

Thank you so much, Andrea! San Antonio truly is a lovely city, we remember our time living there very fondly. 🙂 Happy travels to you as well!

Well written, Andrea. Thank you very much for putting those fun places together in your article. I lived in SA for 10 years but only had been to a handful places in your list. Will definitely go back and check the rest out. Happy travels!

The 6 best day trips from San Antonio, Texas

tours from san antonio

Located between Texas Hill Country and the  Gulf of Mexico , San Antonio  is a great base for day trips into the wider region.

The surrounding area offers a mix of rolling hills for hiking and coastal plains full of amazing wildlife, as well as a thriving wine region and charming towns with quirky attractions, boutique shopping, and charismatic art scenes. Once you've experienced the best of central San Antonio , this guide to the region's top day trips will help you experience the different flavors of Texas just a short journey away.

A street scene at night with people milling around in a blur

1. Soak up the vibes in Austin, Texas' capital

Travel time: 1 hour 15 minutes

Austin and San Antonio vie for the top tourist destination in Texas , but the two cities are close enough together that you don't need to choose and can experience both in one vacation. Ideally, make it more than a day trip and plan to spend a night or two in the capital of Texas, home to fantastic barbecue, phenomenal outdoor spaces and a nightlife full of live music shows.

Start your day with a swim or hike.  Lady Bird Lake draws travelers for its water activities, but it’s not the only place to take a dip in Austin.  Barton Springs Pool and the Barton Creek Greenbelt are local swimming spots surrounded by open space and parkland.  Hiking and climbing are extensive in the Greenbelt area, too. Downtown Austin is home to  6th Street – the entertainment district full of clubs, bars and restaurants. Be sure to check out  different neighborhoods for different vibes. South Congress Avenue and East Austin are two of our favorites.

How to get to Austin from San Antonio:  Driving north on I-35 is perhaps the easiest and quickest route, though you could save some cash with a ride on a Greyhound or Megabus, or by taking the Amtrak Texas Eagle train. Just keep in mind that the Amtrak train ride to Austin is 3.5 hours which is quite a bit longer than the hour and fifteen-minute drive by car.

People in silhouette gaze at a sky filled with stars

2. Take a hike in the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

Travel time: 1 hour 30 minutes

The pink granite dome of the  Enchanted Rock has drawn humans for over 12,000 years. Indigenous people have romantic, tragic and ghostly legends about the rock. For instance, the Tonkawa people thought that ghost fires flickered at the top of the dome. Legends aside, Enchanted Rock is a great place for outdoor lovers who want to do some hiking near San Antonio.

The dome rises 425ft high and is the centerpiece of the  Enchanted Rock State Natural Area . Visitors come from all over to explore 11 miles of hiking trails and phenomenal rock-climbing spots in the park. As an International Dark Sky Park, stargazing here is amazing. You could stay overnight in one of the campsites to experience the dark sky firsthand or plan your trip around one of the park’s Rock Star Parties to learn about the constellations from the park rangers.

Be sure to book a reservation to Enchanted Rock prior to visiting. Texas State Parks are strict on the number of people allowed in each day, so you wouldn’t want to arrive and be turned away.

How to get to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area from San Antonio:  Driving a car from San Antonio to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area will save you a lot of time and energy. However, there is an alternate way to get there. Travelers could take a bus from San Antonio to Fredericksburg, a small German town known for being the center of the Texas wine industry. You would then book a private group tour to Enchanted Rock with Fredericksburg Tours , which takes travelers from Fredericksburg to the natural area on a two-and-a-half-hour tour. Keep in mind that you might run into timing issues with the bus and the tour, so you’ll have to plan accordingly and may even need to stay overnight in Fredericksburg to go this route.

3. Have a beach day in Corpus Christi

Travel time: around 2 hours

Don’t miss a chance to lay out on the beach along the Gulf of Mexico with an overnight or day trip to  Corpus Christi . With over 100 miles of beaches, there is plenty of sand to choose from. Spend the day out on the water surfing with  Texas Surf Camp or go on a guided kayak tour with  GlowRow . Fishing, kite boarding, and windsurfing are some of the other fun water-based activities happening in Corpus Christi Bay too. Families should take the kids to the  Texas State Aquarium to learn about the aquatic life found in the bay. Corpus Christi is also the hometown of Tejana legend Selena Quintanilla. Learn more about her life and contribution to music at the  Selena Museum .

How to get to Corpus Christi from San Antonio:  If you want to explore various beaches throughout Corpus Christi, we recommend renting a car and driving south on I-37 from San Antonio to Corpus Christi. It’ll be more convenient in the long run. Greyhound runs a service between the cities, but it’s a three-hour ride versus a two-hour drive.

A church altar and surrounds painted in bright colors

4. Have a German-inspired experience in Schulenburg

Travel time: 1 hour 35 minutes

San Antonio is surrounded by charming towns full of personality, and Schulenburg is one such place. Stop in the downtown area for country cooking or a great German meal at Oakridge Smokehouse Restaurant or (the possibly haunted) Momma’s at Sengelmann Hall . Don’t leave Schulenburg without trying a traditional kolache (sweet pastry with fruit) or schnitzel.

Once you’re nice and full, take a journey through the city’s unique attractions. There is the  Texas Polka Museum , which highlights the German and Czech heritage of polka music in Texas through great displays. The biggest attractions of Schulenburg are the  Painted Churches . There are 20 Painted Churches in Texas, with four located in this city. They look like ordinary country churches on the outside but offer a huge, colorful surprise inside. These ornately decorated churches feature painted frescoes and gorgeous altars, the likes of which are usually found in Europe. Before you leave Schulenburg, grab fresh pecans – some of which are candied or placed in fudge – at Potter Country Store .

How to get to Schulenburg from San Antonio:  Travelers have two transportation options to get to Schulenburg from San Antonio. You can drive or take a Greyhound bus, with the bus taking between five to fifteen minutes longer than driving yourself. If you take a bus, keep in mind that Schulenburg is a very small town of fewer than 3000 people. It’s unlikely you’ll have a lot of luck finding a taxi or rideshare, so you’ll have to walk between attractions.

5. See the Cowboy Capital of the World in Bandera

Travel time: 1 hour

Northwest of San Antonio is a small town of 829 people called Bandera, and it draws people from all over the world for its cowboy culture. Start your day in Bandera in the rustic-style downtown area. Shop among the boutiques and antique stores and stop in Brick’s River Cafe or OST Restaurant for a meal. For a dose of history, check out the  Bandera Natural History Museum or the  Frontier Times Museum . Those who stay into the evening hours can stop by what some claim to be the oldest continuously operating honky tonk in Texas, the  Arkey Blues Silver Dollar Saloon . If you want to spend a few days and get a cowboy experience check out one of the local dude ranches like  Mayan Dude Ranch or  Hill Country Equestrian Lodge .

Fun tip: If you visit Bandera in the fall, visit the nearby  Lost Maples State Natural Area for the most beautiful leaf peeping in the state. It’s only 45 minutes away from Bandera, and well worth the extra time.

How to get to Bandera from San Antonio:  As with most of the destinations on this list, driving to Bandera from San Antonio is the easiest way to go. However, you could take a bus – well, sort of. You’d have to take a Greyhound to Center Point, Texas, and then take a taxi or Uber to Bandera. Center Point and Bandera are only 22 minutes apart, which means the entire bus and taxi/Uber route is about an hour and a half.

Colorful bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrushes and other wildflowers in Texas Hill Country

6. Spend the day on the lake at Canyon Lake

What’s a trip to Texas without spending some time on the lake? Our favorite lake near San Antonio is the 8308-acre  Canyon Lake , known as the water recreation capital of Texas. The lake has 80 miles of shoreline and a number of parks where you can lay out, picnic, swim, fish, or launch your kayak or canoe. Motorized boats are allowed on the lake, so it could be fun to rent a pontoon boat, jet ski or other type of boat from  Lake Life Boat Rental ,  Canyon Lake Adventures , or one of the many other boat rental companies. Other options include scuba diving, parasailing, helicopter tours, and nearby golfing.

There are a variety of hiking trails and wildlife to enjoy around the lake. If you have time, visit the mile-long  Canyon Lake Gorge , which formed in 2002 when over 34 inches of rain fell and sent a torrent of floodwater that carved out this geological attraction. The floodwaters exposed dinosaur footprints and fossils. Not too far from the gorge is  The Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country , which provides a lot of information on the dinosaur activity that existed in the Canyon Lake area.

How to get to Canyon Lake from San Antonio:  Taking a car to Canyon Lake from San Antonio is the smartest route, as it will ensure you can explore different areas around the lake. You could try your hand at taking an Uber, Lyft or taxi from San Antonio to Canyon Lake. If you have any issues finding a driver that is willing to drive directly to Canyon Lake, take a rideshare or taxi to New Braunfels, which is a 36-minute drive from San Antonio, and then book another rideshare to Canyon Lake, which is about a 31-minute drive from New Braunfels.

Otherwise, take a Greyhound bus or the Amtrak train from San Antonio to San Marcos and try to book a 50-minute rideshare or taxi ride from San Marcos to Canyon Lake. This transportation option, of course, is far more complicated.

The 10 Best Day Trips to Take From San Antonio

History, Nature and Culture Abound in South-Central Texas

tours from san antonio

San Antonio’s geographic location in south-central Texas provides easy access to rolling hills, pristine streams, tranquil lakes and the multifaceted Texas coast. No matter which direction you choose to drive, you’re not far from adventure.

Fredericksburg

When German pioneers settled the area in the mid-1800s, many of them built small “Sunday houses” in town in addition to their primary residences on nearby farms. Since traveling by horse-and-buggy was slow and arduous, it was a hassle to ride into town and back just to attend church on Sundays. These smaller houses allowed them to make a weekend of it. They’d arrive in town on Saturday, run a few errands, stay overnight, and then head back to the farm after church. Many of these Sunday houses have been turned into lodging, and have played a key role in Fredericksburg becoming such a popular weekend destination. Amid these historic bed-and-breakfasts, you’ll also find trendy restaurants, wine bars, music venues, and theaters. About 20 miles north of Fredericksburg, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a great spot for a morning hike. Climbing the dome-shaped hunk of pink granite is only mildly strenuous, and you’ll be rewarded with a 360-degree view of the Texas Hill Country.

New Braunfels

Another town with a strong German heritage, New Braunfels is best known as the home of the Schlitterbahn Waterpark . Many of the park’s rides are fueled by cool, all-natural river water that is pumped right back into the river after flowing through the park. The park includes slow-moving waterways for tubing as well as opportunities for high adventure, such as the Boogie Bahn surfing ride. For a mellower experience, head to the nearby Gruene Historic District and shop for antiques, souvenirs, and handcrafted gifts. When you’re ready for lunch, you’ll be within walking distance of the Gristmill Restaurant . The rustic building is perched on the banks of the Guadalupe River and features several levels of seating overlooking the beautiful scenery. If you plan to stick around into the evening, you can catch both local and high-profile country music acts at Gruene Hall . A few miles west of New Braunfels, Natural Bridge Caverns is an excellent low-key adventure on a hot day. It’s always about 70 degrees underground.

Water recreation is also a key attraction in San Marcos, but the emphasis here is on the rivers themselves instead of waterparks. Several outfitters in and around the town offer two- to four-hour tubing excursions. Most have shuttle buses to pick you up and drop you off along the river. The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment (formerly known as Aquarena Springs) has glass-bottomed boats that cruise though the pristine Spring Lake. Expert guides will explain the plant life, turtles, fish and other flora and fauna that make up this delicate ecosystem. Bargain shoppers will enjoy the area’s two major outlet malls: San Marcos Premium Outlets and Tanger Outlets . In the evenings, you can sit back with a beer and enjoy live music from local and regional bands at Cheatham Street Warehouse .

Corpus Christi

About two hours south of San Antonio, Corpus Christi has beaches in addition to many of the other amenities you might expect from a mid-sized city. The Texas State Aquarium has massive indoor and outdoor tanks that feature a huge variety of species, including, sharks, tarpon and stingrays. It also focuses many of its exhibits on species and habitats from the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, which lies off the coast of southern Mexico and Central America. In the Stingray Lagoon, kids can even touch the stingrays. For a dose of military history, head to the USS Lexington , a massive aircraft carrier docked within walking distance of the aquarium. It has a flight simulator, nautical artifacts and even an on-board restaurant. When you’re ready for a swim, Malaquite Beach features a visitor center and miles of unspoiled beaches. Even though Hurricane Harvey hit the region in August 2017, Corpus Christi dodged the worst of the storm. Nearby cities Port Aransas and Rockport were more heavily damaged and are still in the process of rebuilding.

Garner State Park

The most popular state park in Texas, Garner has been a favorite summer destination for some families for generations. Situated on the Frio River, the park has excellent swimming, biking, kayaking and fishing opportunities. Featuring higher hills and deeper, more dramatic canyons than the rest of the Hill Country, Garner State Park is a photographer’s dream. Though they can be difficult to spot, the endangered golden-cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo often nest in heavily wooded areas. There’s also a tubing outfitter on-site as well as a putt-putt golf course. If you stay into the evening during the summer, you can experience the park’s most cherished tradition: a nightly dance for all ages at the central pavilion. A short drive from the park, Frio Bat Flight offers an amazing bat-viewing opportunity. At sunset, about ten million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from Frio Cave. As the bats fly out in search of bugs to eat, red-tailed hawks and peregrine falcons swoop in and try to pick off a few bats to eat. It may be a little too brutal for young kids, but adult nature buffs will enjoy this fast-moving natural spectacle.

For two weeks in May and June every year, the Kerrville Folk Festival attracts world-class songwriters and some of the most loyal fans imaginable. The regular attendees refer to themselves affectionately as “Kerrverts,” and some of them arrive on the festival grounds days before the festival to set up their own little villages within the campground. After the on-stage performances every night, professional and amateur musicians alike sing around campfires, often until dawn. The rest of the year, Kerrville is a sleepy town with plenty of antique shops, locally owned restaurants, and a few art galleries. The Museum of Western Art exhibits a wide array of paintings and sculptures depicting cowboys, ranching and frontier life. Beautifully situated on a hilltop, Kerrville Hills Winery offers daily tastings and winery tours.

If you’re looking for a small-town getaway near San Antonio that’s not overrun by tourists in summer, Wimberley is always a good option. The “downtown” area is so small you can explore all of it in about 30 minutes. If you have kids in tow, make sure and stop at the Emily Ann Theatre & Gardens . The community theater presents plays for both kids and adults, ranging from "Princess and the Pea" to "Pride and Prejudice." Even when there’s not a performance going on, the 12-acre property offers plenty of adventure for the little ones. Wayne’s Meadow is home to ten kid-friendly gardens, including a life-size chess set and a butterfly garden. For an all-natural and refreshing swimming experience, Blue Hole is a nearby spring-fed swimming hole complete with a rope swing. Bring a picnic lunch, and enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the lush grass along the banks of the creek. Open only during summer, Jacob's Well is another one-of-a-kind swimming hole in Wimberley, and it's part of an extensive cave system connected to the Edwards Aquifer. The cool water bubbles up from underground to create this all-natural swimming spot. You can work up a sweat before your swim on the park's extensive network of nature trails.

The Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne (pronounced Bernie ) is an ideal spot for a brisk morning hike. Several miles of nature trails wind through a variety of landscapes, including meadows, dense woods, and rolling hills. The half-mile Marshland Trail is an easy walk along a boardwalk that offers abundant opportunities to see wildlife in the sky and water. You’ll see turtles, ducks and maybe even a stunning kingfisher diving for its prey. Despite its lackluster moniker, the Cave Without a Name is one of the most gorgeous natural features in Texas. The rippled walls and ceiling almost seem to be in motion. Concerts are sometimes held in the cave, which offers remarkable acoustics. To combine an afternoon snack with a little shopping, check out Carousel Antiques & Fickle Pickles . While these are pricey pickles, regular customers swear by these tart treats. Some have a little extra zing, with flavors ranging from garlic to jalapeno. The selection of antiques is fairly small, but it adds an interesting twist to your pickle shopping.

For a rousing start to your day in Helotes, head to Helotes Hill Country Ziplines . The nine lines range in height from 100 feet to a stomach-turning 1,000 feet. On the fastest ones, you’ll be soaring up to 35 mph. After such an exhilarating experience, you may need a glass of wine. Helotes Creek Winery is a charming little winemaker located along a narrow country road. You won’t find any snootiness here—just tasty reds, whites, cheese plates and the occasional cranapple wine slushie. The winery even has a ladies’ night on Wednesdays. For your evening entertainment, Floore’s Country Store is a one-of-a-kind music venue housed in an old dance hall. The name seems to imply that it used to be a store, but it’s been a dance hall and honky-tonk since it opened in 1942. The name is simply another example of Texas eccentricity at its finest. Willie Nelson once played here regularly and still stops by every now and then. The music schedule mostly consists of up-and-coming country singers with a few national acts sprinkled in.

Johnson City

The childhood home of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, Johnson City is also one of the most beautiful small towns in Texas. It’s situated amid rolling hills and verdant pastures dotted with sprawling old oak trees. Free tours of LBJ’s boyhood home start every half hour on the house’s front porch. Look up and you’ll see that the ceiling of the front porch is painted sky blue. This was done often in early Texas houses because it was believed that wasps wouldn’t build nests on a blue ceiling because, well, it looked like the sky. In March 1937, it was on this very porch that Lyndon Baines Johnson announced his first run for Congress. The modest home was restored and furnished to be historically accurate for the mid-1920s period.

The LBJ Ranch is just a few miles down the road. You can now get a driving permit and tour parts of the ranch without supervision; However, an expert guide will help you appreciate the ranch’s role in history. Make sure you stop and check out LBJ’s famous floating car. LBJ used to toy with reporters by touring the ranch in the car and then—without warning—driving the car directly into a lake. No matter what you think of his policies, LBJ was undoubtedly one of the nation’s most interesting presidents.

San Antonio Port

Tour options from/to your ship docked at san antonio ..

Feel free to combine several San Antonio visits and experiences below, just let us know which:

  • Explore the coastline of this part of Chile, including the largest swimming pool in the world
  • Visit Isla Negra and view the house and museum dedicated to Chilean poet Pablo Neruda
  • Discover the traditional Chilean town of Lo Abarca with its picturesque architecture
  • Enjoy a ceramic-making workshop in Pomaire, a village that specializes in this art
  • Visit a winery or two in either the San Antonio or Casablanca Valley, with tastings of course
  • Enjoy lunch at a winery or at a local restaurant along the San Antonio coast or in Pomaire
  • City tour of Santiago either at the start or the end of your private transfer

Important: It is possible to visit Valparaiso from San Antonio but please bear in mind that it is quite a detour on the standard route. If you have several hours available then we can arrange this en route to your ship or Santiago.

The coast along from San Antonio houses treasures such as Pablo Nerudas house

Our San Antonio highlights tour lets you delve into the cultural riches of the undiscovered ‘Coast of Poets’, including a visit to the iconic house of Nobel Prize winner Pablo Neruda at Isla Negra. We also believe that you shouldn’t come to one of the world’s finest wine regions without including a visit to an award-winning Chilean winery.

Many cruise tours overlook the region surrounding port, instead preferring to bus people into Santiago (a 4-hour round-trip) for a whistle-stop overview of the Chilean capital . We believe that there is a far more relaxing and interesting day to be had with this original tour exploring the ‘real’ Chile.

About San Antonio Port:

The largest container port in all of Chile, San Antonio is a working port in which cruise ships are very much in the minority. Your ship will always dock alongside a wharf, from where you will be transported by internal bus to the ‘DP World’ passenger terminal. Tour staff from  Shore Excursions Chile  will be waiting for you inside the terminal, where there are also restrooms and a few limited shopping options.

Parade routes, start times

If you’re planning your Fiesta parade strategies this year, we can help.

These are the start times and routes for the 2024 Battle of Flowers and Flambeau Parades.

Battle of Flowers Parade

The Battle of Flowers parade will take place on Friday, April 26. The vanguard kicks off at 9:55 a.m. with the parade following at 10:30 a.m. This year’s theme is “Viva Amor 2024.”

The Battle of Flowers parade is the second oldest parade and the only parade in the United States produced entirely by women, and all of them are volunteers.

San Antonio Food Bank CEO Eric Cooper was selected as the grand marshal for the 133rd Battle of Flowers Parade.

This year’s 2.6-mile route will follow the same path as last year. The parade steps off on North Main Street near San Antonio College. It will travel on Lexington Avenue, North St Mary’s Street, Brooklyn Avenue, Avenue E, Houston Street, Alamo Plaza, Commerce Street and Santa Rosa where it will end near West Martin Street.

Fiesta Flambeau Parade

The Fiesta Flambeau Parade is known as America’s largest illuminated night parade with more than 200 parade entries and a typical attendance of about 750,000 spectators. It’s also broadcasted and livestreamed (on KSAT!) to about 1.5 million more people.

This year’s parade will be held on Saturday, April 27. The vanguard kicks off at 7:15 p.m. and the main parade will follow at 7:45 p.m. The theme is “Lotsa Loteria.”

The University of Texas Longhorn Band will be the parade’s premier band and will be joined by floats, marching units, local bands, bands from other cities and states, dance groups, equestrian units and others.

It travels the same route as the Battle of Flowers Parade. Michael Quintanilla, a former writer for the San Antonio Express-News, is the grand marshal . Angie Salinas, the CEO of Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, is the honorary grand marshal.

Road closures, traffic, VIA Park & Ride

With ongoing construction already creating a vehicular maze downtown, the 11-day party may cause some traffic hot spots as drivers navigate road closures, pedestrians and detours.

The City of San Antonio asks people to plan ahead, celebrate responsibly, and take a ride share or VIA Park & Ride when available.

>> Fiesta-goers can receive $10 off their Uber ride

If you are one of many planning to party downtown for the Battle of Flowers or Fiesta Flambeau parades, or at NIOSA or Fiesta De Los Reyes, click here for detailed information on road closures, parking and construction.

VIA Metropolitan Transit will have its Park & Ride service available for Fiesta’s biggest events, and riders can receive a free medal.

The service will be available from Friday, April 19 to Saturday, April 27 for $1.30 each way, though discounts are available for students, seniors, military members and other populations.

Fiesta medals will be given out at the transit center location at the time of purchase, while supplies last. If the service is purchased online, customers will need to show their receipt at the transit center to receive a medal.

What’s new at Fiesta 2024

If you’re ready for Fiesta’s biggest events, you may want to know about some new venue and time changes for 2024.

Here are new things to know about Fiesta:

  • Fiesta Fiesta, the kickoff event to the season, is moving east to the Alamodome.
  • La Semana Alegre, a music festival that was popular in San Antonio during the 1980s and ‘90s, will relaunch at Hemisfair.
  • NIOSA at La Villita will have new food and drink options.
  • The King William Fair will do away with the BlastPass system and return to paper tickets for the event.
  • Battle of Flowers, one of the most famous flower parades in the country, will shift an hour later compared to the last couple of years.

Click here for more details on each of these changes.

History of Fiesta

Fiesta started in 1891 when a group of San Antonio citizens honored the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto with the first Battle of Flowers Parade.

Children dressed up as flowers and horse-drawn carriages were adorned with flowers. Parade participants threw blossoms at each other, a tradition that hasn’t been passed down.

>> Historical photos show Fiesta parade floats and crowds from 100+ years ago in downtown San Antonio

The success of the Battle of Flowers Parade led to more events every year, thus Fiesta was born.

Fiesta has been celebrated every year since, except 1918 during World War I, 1942-1945 during World War II and 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Fiesta Foodies

Want to know how much Fiesta-goers are chowing down during the 11-day festival? Here’s the breakdown of food consumed, according to the Fiesta Commission:

  • 32,000 Chicken-on-a-Sticks
  • 25,000 Tortillas
  • 15,000 Oysters at Oyster Bake
  • 5,000 Tamales
  • 3,000 Turkey Legs

Here’s what the Conservation Society says the “Night in Old San Antonio” crowd consumes during an average year:

  • 17,000 pounds of beef
  • 11,000 pounds of chicken
  • 3,000 turkey legs
  • 1,000 pounds of guacamole

Fiesta is the largest annual event in San Antonio and generates more than $340 million in economic impact for the community. Roughly 2.5 million people attend the annual celebration, which generates thousands of jobs for locals.

Michigan panthers at san antonio brahmas odds, picks and predictions, share this article.

tours from san antonio

The  Michigan Panthers (2-1) travel to meet the San Antonio Brahmas (2-1) Saturday at the Alamodome. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Panthers vs. Brahmas odds and make our expert UFL picks and predictions .

The Panthers picked up a 34-20 win against the Houston Roughnecks, capping off a 3-game homestand to open the season with 2 victories and 2 covers. The Under cashed in 2 of the 3 outings, too. Michigan is 0-2 against the spread (ATS) as an underdog and 1-0 ATS as a favorite. The Under is 2-0 in 2 games as a ‘dog, and the Over cashed in the only outing as a favorite, too.

The Brahmas suffered their 1st defeat of the season, falling 31-24 at the Alamodome in Week 3. San Antonio covered in a 27-12 win against D.C. in the opener, but it failed to cover in a narrow victory at Memphis in Week 2, and it is 1-2 ATS while also cashing the Under twice in 3 outings.

  • Against the spread (ATS) : Panthers +1.5 (-110) | Brahmas -1.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under (O/U) : 42.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

  • WR Calvin Turner (undisclosed) out

Panthers at Brahmas picks and predictions

Brahmas 20, Panthers 18

The BRAHMAS ( -115 ) are a solid play on their home field as they look for the bounceback after a disappointing Week 3 loss to the high-octane Battlehawks offense.

The Panthers (-105) defense has given them a chance to win every time out. Michigan has allowed 20 or fewer points, yielding just 18.7 PPG to date in 3 outings. The Over (38.5) cashed last week, as the offense exploded all over Houston for 34 points. Michigan isn’t likely to have that kind of success against a San Antonio D which allowed just 31 points in the 1st 2 weekends.

Against the spread

The BRAHMAS -1.5 ( -110 ) are worth playing instead of the moneyline, as it is almost the same thing for a slightly smaller price. Yes, you can lose if San Antonio wins by a single point, and I expect a very close game. However, save a little, and bet the spread instead.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now !

UNDER 42.5 ( -110 ) is a strong play in this battle of 2-1 teams.

The Under cashed in the 1st 2 weekends for both of these teams, with Michigan averaging 15.5 PPG while allowing 18.0 PPG in the 1st 2 outings. San Antonio averaged 23.5 PPG while conceding 15.5 PPG in the 1st 2 weekends. These teams each cashed the Over in Week 3, but expect a return to their defensive ways Saturday night.
