Speak Now - World Tour Live

If you’ve never experienced Swift perform up close and in person, Speak Now-World Tour (Live)—recorded on various stages and arenas during her 2011 global tour—is as close as you can get. The impassioned “Sparks Fly” kicks off these 16 collected performances against the wild cheers of her devoted fans. Swift’s rendition of “Mine” is a standout track, serving as a reminder that there’s a lot of old-school country pop in the roots of her songwriting. (Check out the rabid crowd singing along to the chorus of this one.) Fans can always expect Swift to deliver awesome and unpredictable covers in her shows, and she delivers the goods here with a gorgeous acoustic reworking of Kim Carnes’ “Bette Davis Eyes” and a take on Train’s “Drops of Jupiter” that upstages the original.

How to Watch All of Taylor Swift's Concert Films and Documentaries

Taylor Swift is a singer and songwriter, but she has released several concert films and documentaries about her life, shows and craft.

  • Taylor Swift's concert films feature footage of her performances for those unable to attend or who want to relive big moments.
  • Taylor Swift's documentary Miss Americana gave a glimpse into her personal life and discussed heavy topics.
  • The Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Session gave Taylor Swift a chance to perform songs live during a time of global fear.

It might not be a "Cruel Summer" anymore, but the Swifties have a lot to look forward to in 2024. Last year, Taylor Swift released in theaters a film focused on her record-breaking tour, The Eras Tour , followed by the re-recording of her iconic 1989 album. Now, Swifties are expecting Swift to announce Reputation re-recording at any moment as she's about to come back touring.

Breaking records left and right with her albums and re-recorded albums, Swift also has filmed some interesting documentaries and concert films over the years. In fact, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Some of her films focus solely on her performances and tours, but a few of them give a glimpse into her writing and crafting process. Others are purely raw, revealing, and inspirational, taking a deep dive into her private life. But regardless of what they cover, all of them are outstanding projects and can be found on streaming.

Updated on January 31, 2024, by Andrea Sandoval: Taylor Swift has been one of the most important artists of the last two decades. With 10 albums and 4 re-recordings, she has positioned herself as one of the most successful singers. Especially in 2023, Taylor Swift's popularity rose above anything people could have ever expected. In 2023, she released two re-recordings and a concert film, while touring around the United States and South America. For new and old Swifties interested in following Taylor Swift's cinematographic universe, they can go to several streaming services to have access to all of her films. We updated this article to update the information as of January 2024.

Taylor Swift's Concert Films

Taylor swift's eras tour movie is the highest-grossing concert film in history.

Taylor Swift might be a master of the pen, but she has been interested in different sides of the entertainment world. Outside of writing her own music inspired by her life and experience, she is also creating new fictional worlds, both in songs. Since her Lover era, Swift has both starred in and directed most of her music videos, including "The Man," "Cardigan," " All Too Well (10 Minute Version), " "Anti-Hero," and more. But besides music videos, Swift also treated her fans to a series of concert films and a couple of documentaries.

Swift has been releasing concert films since she toured with her second album, Fearless , releasing Journey to Fearless in 2010. This movie is more than just a film of her concert. She also discusses promoting her second album and her rise to fame. A year later, she released the Speak Now World Tour Live , following her international tour for her same-titled third album, and The 1989 World Tour Live , which focused on her fifth album. Unlike the Speak Now World Tour Live , The 1989 World Tour Live also came with commentaries from Swift and her close friends. In 2018, she released a new concert film for her record-breaking Reputation Stadium Tour; in 2020, the City of Lover featured a performance in Paris. Last year, Swift released in theaters The Eras Tour concert, which has already surpassed $100 million worldwide in advance ticket sales.

Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless was released as a three-episode series on The Hub, which has since become the Discovery Family, and it was later released in full on DVD, just like Speak Now World Tour . Since her third concert film, the 1989 World Tour Live, she has turned to streaming services. It was released on Apple Music following her move to withdraw her music catalog from Spotify. Next, she turned to Netflix for her Reputation Stadium Tour . City of Lover was released on ABC, and it streamed on Hulu and Disney+ for a limited time. Meanwhile, The Eras Tour concert film went straight to the big screen, with a worldwide premiere, and now it's available for rent on Apple TV.

Taylor Swift and Miss Americana

From taylor swift to selena gomez, celebrity documentaries are tackling mental health.

Taylor Swift surprised fans when she revealed she would be releasing a documentary on her personal life. Working with Emmy-winning filmmaker Lana Wilson, her documentary film called Miss Americana gives a never-seen-before look at her private life. She opens up about her mental health, insecurities, and fears.

The documentary covers videos of Swift planning her 2020 Lover Fest tour, which she had to cancel due to the pandemic, recording songs for her album Lover , and the fact that her sixth album, Reputation , didn't receive a nod at the Grammy Awards. The film also shows Swift at home with her cats and gives small glimpses of her then-boyfriend, British actor Joe Alwyn. It was also the first time Swift had publicly opened up about politics, releasing the song "Only the Young," which features in the credits of Miss Americana.

For her documentary, the 12-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter teamed up with Lana Wilson and Netflix. The film premiered on the opening night of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and was available on Netflix and select theaters starting on January 31, 2020. Its title comes from Swift's 2019 song "Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince," off her seventh studio album, Lover . It received widespread critical acclaim and an approval rating of 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Taylor Swift Presents Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions

10 must-watch music documentaries.

During the pandemic, as she was living with her then-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, Swift started doing what she did best -- write, only this time, with no pressure. Out of her "quiet" time, two "sister" albums were born: Folklore and Evermore , with fictional characters she invented. Since there were no get-togethers during that time, the Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions allowed her to perform the songs live for the first time with her co-writers and producers, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, while also discussing their writing and crafting process. It was also the perfect setting, evoking the nostalgic, wistful nature of the album. The documentary also revealed that Alwyn was one of the co-writers for the album, writing "Betty" and "Exile" under the pseudonym William Bowery.

2020 was a difficult year for most of the world, but not for Taylor Swift. She was still handling the cancelation of her Lover Fest tour but decided to let her creative mind roam, and she released three different films -- the City of Lover concert film of her only performance for the Lover album in Paris, the Miss Americana documentary, and Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions . The latter was released on Disney+ on November 25, 2020.

When she's not writing #1 albums, directing music videos, or releasing concert films and documentaries, Swift also acts. So far, she has starred in 2014's The Giver , David O. Russell's Amsterdam in 2022, 2012's The Lorax, and the 2019 adaptation of the musical Cats . The "All Too Well" singer is also planning to make her feature directorial debut with an original script, making sure that the world will continue to have fresh Swift content.

Prepare for the Eras Tour with this journey through Taylor Swift's concert films

A guide to every taylor swift era captured on film, from journey into fearless to taylor swift's reputation stadium tour.

Taylor Swift concert films a full history

The Eras Tour concert film is nearly upon us, and it’s set to be another major milestone in Taylor Swift’s already incredibly illustrious career. Topping $100 million in advance ticket sales , the movie experience will likely be crowned the biggest concert film of all time. This is no surprise given Swift’s complete cultural dominance in the last few years. But this also isn’t Swift’s first rodeo: she’s released several concert films (or concert-film-adjacent material) throughout her career, each one calibrated to its specific “era.”

Related Content

Swift’s on-screen journey (and no, we’re not talking about her appearance in Cats or her magnificent death in Amsterdam ) tracks the incredible rise to fame of the biggest pop star of her generation, capturing her at the height of her powers—in front of an audience, connecting with her fans.

Journey To Fearless

After breaking out with her self-titled debut album, the Fearless era truly put Taylor Swift on the map. Her sophomore effort was ultimately awarded the Grammy for Album of the Year. This era also featured her first world tour, which kicked off in April 2009 and stretched through July 2010. The event was captured in Journey To Fearless , a three-part documentary series that originally helped launch the children’s television network The Hub.

Journey To Fearless “combines riveting performances from Taylor Swift’s smash 2010 tour with revealing interviews and behind-the-scenes footage,” per a synopsis of the series. It’s “the story of a little girl who dared to dream big, and who fearlessly faced near-insurmountable obstacles to make those dreams come true.” Questionably surmountable obstacles aside, it’s a fascinating document in the Swift canon that serves something like an origin story. In addition to tour footage, the doc features Swift family home videos and an explanation of how she fell in love with music and made it to Nashville. If you’re itching to watch it, Journey To Fearless can be purchased on DVD over at Amazon .

Speak Now World Tour — Live

Following the smash success of Fearless , Swift famously decided to make a point to her haters by releasing an entirely self-written album so that no one could question her songwriting abilities. Enter the Speak Now era, which was accompanied by a fairytale world tour spanning from February 2011 to March 2012. The Speak Now World Tour — Live concert film was accompanied by a live album that featured Swift’s set list and a few of the covers she played on the road (she played a lot of covers on that tour).

This one is more of a pure concert film than the documentary that preceded it. Nevertheless, it’s interesting to see Swift’s evolution as a performer and the production value she brought to her shows: big set pieces, elaborate costumes, and even little skits (there’s a fake wedding staged in the middle, with a priest and organ music and everything). This DVD can also be purchased at Amazon .

After Speak Now came Red , the era where Swift began her crossover from country music to pop. Sadly, there is no concert film from the Red tour, which took place from March 2013 to June 2014, though rumors circulated for years that one had been filmed and scrapped. (Swift’s label at the time, Big Machine, did not respond to The A.V. Club ’s request for comment on the subject.) Some of the speculation that the Red film was scrapped was because one of the music videos released from the tour, “The Last Time,” was directed by Terry Richardson, who was shortly thereafter embroiled in (another) sexual misconduct scandal.

However, Swift also released a “Red” music video with a different director, Kenny Jackson. Maybe she was shopping around for a director to fit her vision. Per “ Taylor Swift Switzerland ,” Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta said “he and the management never planned to film the concert or to put it on DVD. He said Taylor also never insisted to film ‘The RED Tour’ due to her process of switching genres,” but this writer can’t find a single source to back up this claim. We’ll just have to enjoy the two music videos (and any blurry fan footage you can find).

The 1989 World Tour Live

The 1989 era marked Swift’s official entry into pure pop, and marked another incredible peak in her career. The world tour, which spanned from May to December 2015, was a similar blockbuster smash, and got an Apple Music-exclusive concert film. Filmed at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney, Australia (the final stop on tour), the Jonas Åkerlund-directed film captured the incredible scope of her stadium success.

The movie featured interviews with Swift about crafting the concert experience, including inviting a lot of friends and celebrities to come out on stage and surprise her fans—everyone from Fetty Wap to Idina Menzel. There are also interviews with “The Squad ,” Swift’s infamous group of girlfriends and footage filmed by her ex-bestie Karlie Kloss . Unfortunately, the film isn’t available for purchase and it’s no longer streaming anywhere (officially, at least—an intrepid fan may be able to find it somewhere on the web.) Instead, you can watch comedian Lara Marie Schoenhals’ “ Please welcome to the stage …” video and get a similar idea as to what the 1989 tour was like.

Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour

Swift’s reputation era followed a fall from grace prompted by the latest (at the time) chapter in her feud with Kanye West. The album is a dark horse in her discography, but for reputation doubters, the tour (which took place between May and November 2018) breathed new life into the material and gave new context to the music. The film version is another straight concert movie without any behind-the-scenes material—as Swift said when the era began, “There will be no explanation. There will just be reputation.”

On a streaming budget, this is probably her best-looking concert film ever, gorgeously shot and lovingly rendered with lots of gilded costumes and giant snakes. It was a herald of what was to come with the Eras Tour as far as production, choreography, and some of Swift’s strongest vocals of her career. The full film can be found streaming on Netflix .

Lover & folklore

Swift’s Lover era was going to be conducted a little differently, with just 16 big shows called “Lover Fest.” Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted those plans, but not before Swift managed to film an intimate concert in Paris called City Of Lover . Broadcast on ABC and later streaming on Disney+ and Hulu in May 2020, the show stripped down songs from the pure-pop album and transformed many of them into aching acoustic versions. While the full concert is no longer available to stream, there’s some video from the show on Swift’s YouTube page, and the accompanying live album can be streamed on Spotify .

Also during the pandemic, Swift released Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions . It’s not really a concert film, so this one’s a bit of a cheat, but it’s a highlight of an era that never got its own tour. The movie features Swift and her main collaborators, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, performing songs from the Grammy-winning album and discussing the meanings behind the lyrics and the process of creating the tracks. That pandemic-era film can be still be streamed on Disney+. (And none for you evermore . Bye!)

The Eras Tour Concert Film

Next up is The Eras Tour Concert Film , which premieres in theaters October 13. Swift made a deal directly with AMC to distribute the film, circumventing studios and giving herself the freedom to sell to a streamer at a later date. For now, though, the event is shaping up to be a theater experience , replicating some of the traditions started at the live show (trading friendship bracelets, for example, has been encouraged). The footage was shot at Swift’s final tour stop on the first leg of the U.S. tour, at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium in early August 2023. Performing songs from each previous “era,” this concert film is no doubt a culmination of all the on-screen eras that came before—and it’s already set to become one of the highest- grossing films of the year , period. See you at the cinemas!

Taylor Swift speak now album taylor's version announced announceent

Taylor Swift let fans in her hometown of Nashville to be the first to get the official news: “Speak Now” will be the next album in her “Taylor’s Version” series of re-recorded albums.

Swift is giving fans plenty of time to pre-order the violet vinyl: She revealed that it’s coming out in all formats July 7.

“I think rather than me speaking about it,” she said, to screams, as fans realized from the language that the long-awaited announcement was at hand, “I thought I would show you, so if you would direct your attention” to the big screens… There, the album cover and release date were shown, before Swift launched into the “Speak Now” track “Sparks Fly” as a surprise song.

Popular on Variety

About 10 minutes after making the announcement, she posted to her social accounts. “It fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of Speak Now will be out July 7 (just in time for July 9th, iykyk,” she wrote, using the acronym for “iykyk.” (The July 9 reference refers to a specific mention of that date in the lyrics of “Last Kiss” — believed to be a date in 2008 when she went to Texas to visit then-boyfriend Joe Jonas.)

It fills me with such pride and joy to announce that my version of Speak Now will be out July 7 (just in time for July 9th, iykyk 😆) I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. “I first made Speak Now, completely self-written, between the ages of 18 and 20. The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness. I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing… and living to speak about it. With six extra songs I’ve sprung loose from the vault, I absolutely cannot wait to celebrate Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) with you on July 7th.”

Alright #NashvilleTSTheErasTour , we have reached the last bridge of the evening! 💜🌉 #SpeakNowTaylorsVersion https://t.co/zLEmjkbrGY — Taylor Nation (@taylornation13) May 6, 2023

Fans had a pretty strong indication of what was coming, entering Friday’s Nashville show. Wristbands given out to fans turned purple at the end of her previous concert this past Sunday, and electronic banners coming into Nissan Stadium were purple-hued.

Swifties had long speculated whether “Speak Now” or “1989” would be next to get the re-recording-plus-bonus-tracks treatment, with the evidence increasingly weighing in her third album’s favor.

The Taylor Nation account went live on Instagram to carry the spoken announcement for fans, with barely a minute’s advance notice.

The new cover art has modern-day Swift wearing a dress similar to the one she wore on the front of the original album in 2010, but with a more serious expression that marks her as definitely not the 20-year-old who posed for the Big Machine edition’s cover.

Swift did not immediately release titles or any other information about the bonus “Vault” tracks, other than to say there would be six. The total 22-song count for the release is confirmed on a product page that went up shortly after the announcement, where it’s revealed that the LP version will be a three-record set, released on “three unique violet marble color vinyl discs.”

So far on the Eras Tour , Swift has only been performing one song on a nightly basis from the “Speak Now” album, “Enchanted,” far less than any other album she’s put out except for her debut, which has no nightly representation. Rather than lead fans to suspect that she disfavors the album, that peculiar choice to make the album practically MIA in the three-hour-plus sets only heightened anticipation that she might be waiting to add more material from “Speak Now” until she was ready to announce the re-recording.

Swift made her announcement right after moving onto the B-stage for the solo-acoustic “surprise songs” segment that comes late in the evening each night on tour. Although Swift inevitably used the moment to premiere a “Speak Now” song that had not previously been played on the tour, “Sparks Fly,” accompanying herself on the guitar, she didn’t devote both surprise slots to the album. The second surprise number Friday was from a different album — “Teardrops on My Guitar,” from her debut, performed perhaps counterintuitively on the piano, not guitar.

Swift has been recording all-new versions of all of her Big Machine releases, with only “Fearless” and “Red” having come out so far in “Taylor’s Version” editions. The new albums have been strong sellers, as fans follow her wishes to buy and stream only the versions where she owns the recordings outright, after her public distress at her Big Machine catalog having been sold against her wishes. The “TV” editions have also included copious bonus tracks of songs Swift wrote but never released during those eras.

“Speak Now” was a landmark album for Swift 13 years ago, becoming the first and only album for which Swift was the sole songwriter on all the tracks — seen at the time as a reaction to cynics who believed that the young singer’s co-writers must have done the heavier lifting on her first two albums. Having made the point, Swift resumed working with writing collaborators on the following release, “Red.”

The album is also remembered for marking a more decided turn toward pop, from her country origins, even though it would be another couple of albums still before she firmly declared herself a pop artist. At the same time, it signified a move into still-bolder songwriting, as in “Dear John,” still one of Swift’s most strikingly raw songs to date. Six songs from the album charted in the Billboard Hot 100: “Mine,” “Back to December,” “Mean,” “The Story of Us,” “Sparks Fly” and “Ours” (the last of which did not appear until a deluxe edition with extra tracks was belatedly released).

Although none of the songs from the album went to No. 1, “Speak Now” itself debuted atop the Billboard 200 with over a million copies sold in its first week. The Big Machine ultimately spent six weeks at No. 1 and has been certified six-times platinum.

Every Taylor Swift documentary and concert movie, ranked

N obody puts on a show quite like Taylor Swift . She’s gifted us with ten albums, she’s been on six tours and produced six concert films. And, if that weren’t enough content for the Swifties, Taylor has also released two documentary films.

Like any true Swiftie, everyone has their favorites. Between the nostalgia that is the Fearless era and the absolutely iconic Reputation Stadium tour, here is my personal ranking of all of Taylor’s documentary and concert films courtesy of WGTC’s resident Swiftie.

8. Speak Now World Tour Live

Speak Now Tour Live was Taylor Swift’s first concert film and featured 18 of Taylor’s best performances from the 2011 show. Like most concert films, she inevitably had to make some cuts, but overall the movie is iconic, adorable, and classically Taylor. The only pitfall is that it’s the concert only with no commentary, and the quality may or may not speak to her budget. If you’re in your Speak Now Era, you can watch the full film on YouTube .

7. The 1989 World Tour Live

This 2015 concert film was definitely a step up from its predecessor. Fans actually get more of a behind-the-scenes look at the 1989 World Tour and it features her entire performance in Sydney, Australia. However, the frantic and choppy editing of this particular movie is something fans are continuing to criticize on social media to this day, with one fan describing it as “ borderline unwatchable “. I wouldn’t go that far: 1989 is iconic and the nostalgia is real with this one. Plus it features the deluxe song “New Romantics” so a win is a win and fans get to see the full setlist, which isn’t a feature of most other concert films. Fans can watch the full concert on YouTube .

6. Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless

Two words: Baby Taylor. If you’re in desperate need of hearing a very young Taylor Swift’s country accent look no further than Journey to Fearless. The three-episode series originally aired on The Hub and came out in August 2010. It follows the road to her very first tour and is an excellent history lesson for baby Swifties. Plus, her country accent is absolutely everything. If you’re a new Swiftie this is an absolute must-watch. If not, you could probably skip it. Fans can watch full episodes on YouTube .

5. City of Lover Concert

Even though the pandemic foiled Taylor’s Plans for a full Lover tour, fans can still get a glimpse at what it would have looked like through her 2020 Taylor Swift City of Lover Concert . The TV program took fans to Paris, France where they could watch the star perform all of her songs from her seventh studio album. This particular performance produced perhaps the best live album of all time. Seriously, “Death by a Thousand Cuts”? Immaculate. If you can’t watch the small but iconic concert, at the very least you should stream the live album. The live concert originally aired on ABC in 2020, but fans can stream on Hulu.

4. Long Pond Studio Sessions

In the midst of winter and the thick of the pandemic, Taylor graces us with two albums and her Long Pond Studio Sessions . The documentary was released in November 2020 and features the artists and two of her co-writers escaping to what is essentially a cabin in the woods to write and record Folklore. It includes behind-the-scenes insight into the songs on the album and even a few versions of the song while recording. It’s a very slow, intimate, and cozy rendition of the documentaries that she has done before. Fans can watch the full film on Disney Plus.

3. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

The Eras Tour concert film has only been out for a week and it’s proving to be one of the most iconic moments for both Taylor Swift’s career and the world economy. Fans can enjoy nearly the entire concert, though a few songs have been cut for time (it is a three-hour concert after all). From the looks of it, fans are enjoying the concert in the movie theater just as much as they did in the stadiums. To be honest, with the close-up shots of Taylor, her costumes, and her dancers, this is almost as good as the real thing. Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is currently only available in theaters.

2. Miss Americana

This documentary is perhaps the most intimate look at Taylor that fans have ever gotten. Miss Americana was released in early 2020 and allows fans not just a backstage look at Lover , but includes insight into Swift’s struggles with living such a public life, her past battle with an eating disorder, and even her thoughts on the current political climate. The title is inspired by Swift’s songs Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince , Swift’s first foray into discussing politics through her music. It’s a side of Taylor that the public doesn’t see often, but one that definitely allowed her to win over the hearts of many more fans. The documentary is available to stream on Netflix.

1. Reputation Stadium Tour

Yes, some of the other films had more commentary or personality and while that’s usually the measure of a quality Taylor Swift movie, the Reputation Stadium Tour forever and always takes the cake. Everything from her setlist to her costumes proves that this tour was the place to be in 2018. And anyone who loved or hated Taylor prior to Reputation can’t help but admit that this was the comeback of the century. Fans can get an up-close look at the Arlington, Texas performance. This two-hour masterpiece is available to stream on Netflix.

You really can’t go wrong with any one of these, and you haven’t seen a single one get to watching. If you don’t know where to start chronological order is always best, but for a real roller coaster watch in ranking order. You will leave this marathon Swift binge inspired, hoarse, and probably with your own personal ranking.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour Reputation Era via Taylor Swift Productions and Silent House Productions

The Eras Tour Was Taylor Swift’s Biggest Outing Yet, But It Was Far From Her First

Image of Lauren Coates

City by city, song by song, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has quickly become of the highest-grossing (and buzziest) tours in music history. Spanning the entire length of Swift’s discography, Taylor honors each of her previous musical/aesthetic “eras” with a dedicated section on her setlist, allowing fans to relive the feeling of each album, if only for a moment.

But while the Eras Tour brings each album together on one mega-tour, it’s hardly the first time Taylor has been around, or even the first time she’s embarked on a stadium tour. From humble beginnings to sold-out shows across the globe, here’s a breakdown of all of Taylor Swift’s tours, in chronological order.

Fearless Tour

As most Swifties know, Taylor’s first album was a self-titled country pop record with singles like “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Our Song,” and “Tim McGraw.” Taylor did tour during the release of Taylor Swift, but not as a headliner—she supported her first album by performing as an opening act for larger artists at the time like Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Faith Hill, and Keith Urban.

But while Taylor Swift was her first album, it wasn’t her first tour—that honor belongs to the Fearless Tour, which kicked off in April 2009 and ran through July 2010. The tour played a total of 105 shows (mostly across North America) including limited stops in Asia, Europe, and Australia. Kellie Pickler joined Taylor as an opening act, with artists like then-boyfriend John Mayer, Katy Perry, and Faith Hill appearing at certain performances as surprise guests. Though the tour didn’t get a concert film, Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless was released as a 3-episode docuseries, documenting the behind-the-scenes of the tour.

Speak Now World Tour

Taylor’s first proper world tour, the Speak Now World Tour , began in February 2011 and featured a total of 111 performances, including seven in Asia and 12 in Europe. In addition to being her first world tour, Speak Now was also Taylor’s first stadium tour and featured more extensive set pieces, choreography, and costuming than the Fearless tour. Speak Now ‘s openers included NeedToBreathe, Hunter Hayes, and Hot Chelle Rae, and it was the first Taylor tour attended by yours truly. A concert film, Taylor Swift: Speak Now World Tour Live , was recorded to accompany the tour.

The Red Tour

Two years later, Taylor was back on the road with the Red Tour, which kicked off in March of 2013 and ran through June of 2014, with a total of 86 performances across the globe. In addition to continuing to bump up the tour’s production value through costuming, choreography, and set design, the Red tour also featured the introduction of surprise songs, which changed night-to-night. Certain Red tour dates also featured Taylor bringing out a surprise guest and singing one of their songs as a duet. Highlights of Red tour guests included Taylor singing “Jenny From the Block” with Jennifer Lopez, “You’re So Vain” with Carly Simon, and “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.

Unlike previous installments, there was no concert film version of the Red tour.

The 1989 World Tour

Following Red was the 1989 World Tour, beginning in May 2015 and ending December of the same year for a total of 85 shows. The 1989 World Tour featured the return of the Surprise Songs mechanic, and hosted Vance Joy, Shawn Mendes, Rae Morris, and Haim as opening acts. Haim would also go on to return as an opening act for the Eras Tour, as well as guest star in the Bejeweled music video and feature on an evermore track.

One of the tour stops in Sydney was recorded for a concert film version of the tour called The 1989 World Tour Live —prior to the Eras Tour, that Sydney performance held the record for Swift’s most-attended performance, with 75,980 Swifties in attendance.

Reputation Stadium Tour

Though Taylor had previously performed at plenty of stadiums on tour, the Reputation Stadium Tour was Swift’s first all-stadium tour, playing May through November of 2018 for a total of 53 shows—her shortest tour to date. Openers for reputation included Camila Cabello, Charli XCX, and Broods, some of whom would join Taylor during the set for “Shake it Off.” As with her previous tours, reputation featured surprise songs at each show and a number of surprise guests at certain performances, this time including Troye Sivan, Selena Gomez, and Niall Horan.

A performance in Arlington was recorded for a concert film called Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour , which was released by (but recently taken off of) Netflix. Fans speculate that reputation leaving Netflix could be related to the fact that Taylor has yet to re-record her masters for reputation .

A sixth tour, Lover Fest, was originally scheduled for April through August of 2020, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tour would’ve featured Swift’s then-first performance in Brazil, and would also have been the first time Swift’s tour dates included stops at previously organized festivals. Because there was no tour, there’s no Lover concert film, but Swift did release City of Lover , a recording of a one-off concert in Paris, as a tv special in May of 2020.

The Eras Tour

Last but certainly not least is, of course, The Eras Tour , which is currently ongoing and kicked off in March of 2023. We’ve previously done a full breakdown of the Eras setlist, which features glimpses into all of Swift’s previous albums, but focuses most heavily on those she was unable to tour because of COVID— Lover, folklore, evermore, and Midnights. A concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , was released in theaters and is currently available to rent on streaming.

Taylor Swift Concert Movies: What to Watch While You Wait for the Eras Tour

Lauren Rouse Avatar

If you’re a disappointed Aussie Swiftie, it’s worth remembering that Taylor Swift has many other concert movies and specials you can watch while you wait, and we’ve broken down where you can see them below.

Where to watch all of Taylor Swift’s concert movies

taylor swift concert movie

Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless

Taylor Swift’s first headline tour in 2009 was for her second album, Fearless. This also marked the release of her first concert movie – a series of 3 episodes titled Journey to Fearless that tracked Swift’s rise to fame. After airing on TV, the documentary came to DVD and Blu-Ray in 2011. This remains the only way to watch Journey to Fearless, but if you’re lucky, there are still some DVDs floating around out there that you can snap up on marketplaces.

Taylor Swift: Speak Now World Tour Live

Following the Fearless tour came Speak Now. Speak Now World Tour – Live was Swift’s first live album and was released in 2011. As was so common in those days, the release of the CD came with an additional DVD that featured live recordings of Swift performing songs on the tour, as well as behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage.

You can actually still buy the CD/DVD combo of Speak Now World Tour – Live at Sanity in Australia if you’re keen to revisit that era.

Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour

taylor swift concert movie

Skip forward a few years, and Taylor Swift’s next concert movie comes in the form of the Reputation Stadium Tour, which was also her last tour prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Filming of the performance took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and the Reputation Stadium Tour concert movie was subsequently released on Netflix.

Miss Americana

While not strictly a concert movie per se, Miss Americana is a documentary that follows Taylor Swift over the course of several years of her career, including the Reputation Tour, up until the release of Lover . The documentary was released to critical acclaim in 2020.

Miss Americana is available to stream on Netflix.

Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions

Taylor Swift directed and starred in this documentary of the recording of her eighth studio album, Folklore . The film takes an in-depth look at the creative process behind the songs, including the collaboration between Swift, Aaron Dressner and Jack Antonoff. It was filmed at Long Pond Studio in Hudson Valley, New York.

Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions can be streamed on Disney+

These are, in fact, not the only concert movies Taylor Swift has released, but they are the only ones available to watch right now.

The 1989 World Tour Live movie was famously recorded at ANZ Stadium in Sydney! But unfortunately, after being released initially on Apple Music, it has since been pulled down. If you go looking on YouTube, however, you can still find it in full.

Swift also performed at an intimate concert in Paris, France, in September 2019 for the City of Lover Concert , which was filmed and released as a TV special in the US. That one hasn’t been released on streaming since, unfortunately.

Can you watch the Eras Tour Concert movie in Australia?

taylor swift australia

Right now, the Eras Tour concert film only has a release date in the U.S. (which is October 13).

I’m willing to bet that, similar to the Eras tour itself, the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert Film will be released in more markets in the future, particularly as the tour begins to hit the international road. Perhaps we’ll see it released in Australia after February next year, once Swift has completed her concerts here .

Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department is here, but it could be a logistical nightmare for the Eras Tour

A black and white photo of Swift holding up The Tortured Poets Department, and peering through the transparent vinyl

Get ready for another Taylor Swift era.

The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) is the superstar's 11th studio album and is being released around the world today.

It'll be dropping the second the clock hits midnight on the east coast of America, which will be this afternoon in Australia.

  • 2pm AEST : ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria
  • 1:30pm ACST : Northern Territory and South Australia
  • 12pm AWST : Western Australia

So far, we know the album is a whopping 16 songs (not including bonus vinyl tracks) and features multiple collaborations, including with Florence + The Machine.

We also know the first single will be Fortnight featuring Post Malone, with a music video dropping tomorrow morning as well.

Despite no singles being released in its lead up, clues point to TTPD seemingly being inspired by the five stages of grief : denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Plus, many fans have speculated that the album title is a reference to the name of a group chat Swift's ex was part of – The Tortured Man Club.

And while The Tortured Poets Department could very well set new streaming records, it also poses a logistical nightmare for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: how do you include yet another album into a show that is over three hours long?

Below, two ABC reporters and Swifties weigh up the likelihood of how the megastar might adapt her sell-out tour when it recommences in Europe next month.

We could lose some songs from every era to make room

Jessica : This seems like the most likely course of action. To put things into perspective, the Eras Tour includes songs from nine albums, but their airtime varies wildly. Lover, Folklore and Midnights have at least six songs, while Speak Now gets just two. So this might be a chance to balance things out?

Georgie : It would make the most sense to me. I can't imagine a tour that doesn't spend at least some time on the freshest music. But, this is a unique scenario. You have an artist who is essentially doing a greatest hits tour at the age of 34 while she is still churning out new music.

If she does cut music to make room for Tortured Poets, it will be very divisive. Every fan has their favourite era. But, I think if she was to I would hope she cuts songs she has already toured. You have to remember she put out four (now five) albums since her last tour and I imagine it would make the most sense for her to give more air time to Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights and TTPD.

Jessica : If you were in charge of Taylor Swift's setlist, which songs would you cull? I'd ditch The Archer from the Lover era so it ends with, well, Lover. I'd be ruthless and cut most of the songs from the Red era as nothing compares to All Too Well (10 Minute Version). But keep the Reputation portion as is! It's perfect.

What if smaller eras, like Fearless and Speak Now, got cut altogether?

Taylor Swift performs in a glittering lavender ballgown.

Jessica : I love chaos so I would not bat an eye if Taylor Swift dropped the entire Speak Now era from her tour. (But Enchanted is such a core memory for a lot of fans.) I know this might be a wild concept but there's not one song from her self-titled debut album in the Eras Tour (justice for Our Song!), so make of that what you will.

Georgie : I think this will cause a major generational divide. The beautiful part about the Eras Tour is you have fans new and old coming together. Taylor has been making music since 2009 and the Eras Tour has been a chance for people in their twenties and thirties to dress up in glitter and be teenagers again while sharing the new music with teenagers today. I'm a folklore girl through and through so I am hoping if any eras get sacrificed it's the older ones. But I can't lie, it's pretty special to belt out Love Story with thousands of other people.

Could we lose the two surprise songs for a few Tortured Poets hits?

Georgie : Controversial opinion but I would be ok with this. Although, take this as you want because I have experienced the Eras Tour. But the section is a gamble anyway. You never know what she's going to play and someone is always disappointed or their top pick is played another night. If you cut this section, no-one gets hurt. Maybe she subs it out for three best songs from TTPD?

Jessica : I missed out on tickets for the Eras Tour altogether so I was taken aback seeing fans who did score tickets complaining about which night got "better" surprise songs. You can't please everyone! I agree, this would level the playing field and take the comparison factor out of the tour… but I wonder if that uniqueness is a marketing factor as some super fans attend multiple concerts in the same city.

Sabrina and Taylor smile at each other on stage at a piano that’s decorated with painted flowers

Imagine if she just… didn't play her new album

Georgie : Don't say it or it might come true!

Jessica : I think this would be the riskiest option. Imagine the disappointment on the first night when the tour recommences in Paris on May 9. But some fans, especially in America, who witnessed the Eras Tour last year before this album was announced feel it's unfair if other countries get a different experience. But that's what happens with the passage of time!

Georgie : I see your point but you have to remember we're in an age where many people have watched the Eras Tour happen through TikTok and the cinema release. So is it really missing out when it's been inescapable for over a year? This could be a chance for the people who have waited so long for the Europe leg – who have basically watched the tour on streaming and all over TikTok – to have something unique and worth the cash.

Or she could just include the new album and make the show nearly *four hours* long?

Jessica : I think this option would please the most fans, but I genuinely don't know how she performs for hours on end each night and then travels through different time zones. Oh,  to be a billionaire with a whole team taking care of everything all the time.

Georgie : I don't see this happening. Costs would skyrocket and many stadiums have a noise curfew. That's new costumes, sets and dance routines.

Jessica : But I would eat up new costumes, sets and dance routines! A four-hour concert is outrageous, which makes me think she might very well pick this option. Time will tell.

Georgie : I'm obviously a Swiftie but when I found out about the new album and what that might mean for the tour I just felt… overwhelmed. I'm still processing the release of four albums and two Taylor's Versions in four years. And now she's putting out new music? It's simply too much! The concert is a marathon but if I did have to go to a four-hour show, I'd do it for Ms Swift.

The worst option: Swapping All Too Well (10 Minute Version) for the radio edit to save time

Jessica : Sacrilegious.

Georgie : The people would riot. Jake Gyllenhaal would be thrilled though.

Final thoughts

Jessica : With everything going on in the world, I think this is a fun problem to ponder, and an interesting one for Taylor to tackle. I wish her well in whatever form the Eras Tour takes, because fans are going to have strong opinions either way.

Georgie: I worry that Taylor needs a holiday but, as you said, she's a billionaire now so I think she'll be fine. I hope she tours future albums but I also support her having a rest. Go chill with the cats and Travis. You've danced in high heeled boots for two years.

A new ‘Era’ just dropped.

On Friday, April 19, at midnight, Taylor Swift released her eleventh studio album “The Tortured Poets Department.”

“An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure,” Swift wrote on Instagram , describing the ambitious record.

Two hours later, she surprised even the most devout Swifties announcing that “The Tortured Poets Department” is a 31-track (!) double album.

“I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours,” she shared in a second late night post.

Taylor Swift poses on the red carpet.

While fans devour the sprawling record — featuring special guests Post Malone and Florence And The Machine — Swift is gearing up for another leg of her ongoing ‘Eras Tour.’

Starting May 9, she’ll resume her international trek with four shows at Paris, FR’s La Defense Arena .

When our team last reported on tickets in early January, prices for those France gigs could be scored for as low as $797 USD before fees on Vivid Seats.

Now, prices start at $433 before fees at the time of publication.

While that downward trend doesn’t hold true for every country she’s visiting, some ticket prices are significantly lower than they were three months ago.

The lowest price we found for all 65 remaining shows was $202 before fees for a show in Lyon, FR; the biggest drop in prices for a single show was over $2,500 (!) for an Italy gig.

Want to dig a bit deeper and find out how much it will cost to see Taylor (and maybe Travis Kelce) this year at the show nearest you?

You’re in luck.

We went ahead and found the cheapest tickets for all ‘Eras Tour’ concerts now versus what they cost on Jan. 3, 2024.

See you at a show (and save us a friendship bracelet).

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

A complete calendar including all upcoming tour dates, venues and the best ticket prices for all concerts versus what they cost on Jan. 3 can be found here.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ news

Our team has been following the ‘Eras Tour’ closely over the past year.

Over the past few months, we’ve a) spoken to a Swiftie who  shared some helpful tips  about seeing Taylor live, b)  came up with a list of all the most exciting fan trends  and c)  explained the drama  surrounding her international opener Sabrina Carpenter.

Want to see how much it cost to see Taylor in the states at the outset of the ‘Eras Tour?’ You can find that information  right here .

Taylor Swift new music

As noted above, Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” was released on midnight (and subsequently at 2 a.m.) on Friday, April 19.

While every listener will likely come away with their own favorites, we particularly enjoyed the sleek synth of “Fortnight,” icy “So Long, London,” anthemic “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” bombastic slow build of “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and gorgeously arranged ballad “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus.”

If you want to give it a spin — if you haven’t already, that is — you can find “The Tortured Poets Department” here .

Taylor Swift opening acts

Taylor only has two opening acts lined up for the ‘Eras Tour’ this year.

Here’s what you need to know about her well-established special guests.

Paramore will play alongside Swift after mounting a massive 2023 tour of their own. The group, fronted by lead singer Hayley Williams, reunited in 2022 after a five-year hiatus. For fans that want to check out their latest, you can listen to “This Is Why,” their sixth studio album, which dropped in February 2023.

Gracie Abrams , the daughter of film director JJ Abrams and producer Katie McGrath, is a star in her own right. Her song “I miss you, I’m sorry” has upwards of 100 million streams on Spotify, she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the 2022 “Sour Tour” and headlined her own tour last spring as well.

Huge stars on tour in 2024

Although it will cost an arm and a leg (maybe more!) to see Swift live this year, there are much more affordable concerts you can attend this year.

Here are just five of our favorite artists you won’t want to miss live.

•  Olivia Rodrigo

•  Kacey Musgraves

•  Pink

•  Chappell Roan

•  Alanis Morissette

Will Taylor Swift add 'Tortured Poets' to international Eras Tour? Our picks.

speak now tour full concert

A double album. Thirty one songs. Two hours and two minutes. In the spaces between the international, record- breaking Eras Tour, Taylor Swift released her 11th era: "The Tortured Poets Department." But will the behemoth tour make room for the newest addition to Swift's vast catalog and how?

"The Tortured Poets Department" showcases the singer's mastery to connect words like puzzle pieces seamlessly depicting the human experience and complex themes of false wedding promises, relationship imprisonment, break-ups and drug escapism, religion versus rebellion, childhood retrospection and the duality of internally suffering while externally performing. It would be a surprise for her not to push this body of art into the spotlight.

But how it fits into the 44-song three hour and 15-minute Eras tour is anyone's guess. And we won't find out until she resumes the tour on May 9 in Paris. I'll be there.

Read Melissa Ruggieri's review Taylor Swift's 'Tortured Poets' is hauntingly brilliant, even the 15 surprise songs

Whether or not she's incorporating the era has already been decided. Swift is 13 steps ahead . She plans her moves years in advance. There is a two-month break from the tour and she has been spending time in Los Angeles. Her team of dancers have not been as active on social media possibly because they're rehearsing a new set. Or maybe it's a coincidence?

The simplest path would be to absorb some of the the 31 songs into the acoustic set that comes after "Bad Blood" during the "1989" era. Swift has used the 2024 surprise songs to play mash-ups on the guitar and the piano. It's when she makes announcements and it's a custom gift to concertgoers and fans watch in envy on livestreams from around the world.

'Tortured Poets' release live updates What to know as Taylor Swift's new album debuts

More likely, she will add a "Tortured Poets" set. The show is segmented, allowing a new era to squeeze in. She could open the show with the new era, although "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince's" opening line is a perfect opening for an artist who has released seven albums and hasn't seen fans: "It's been a long time coming." She could end the show with the set, but "Karma" is a good show closer.

Cue the confetti. If she ends the tour with "Tortured Poets," I'm guessing "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" is the closer.

The writing shines bright like Swift's glittering sequin stars which is reminiscent of and relative to "Folklore" and "Evermore." For the flow of the concert, it makes more sense to not place "Tortured Poets" next to these albums. The show flows with a narrative that spans almost two decades with highs and lows of energy. Two areas that could be good: after "Reputation" and before "Speak Now" or after the secret songs and before "Midnights." Maybe she dives into the stage to swim to the an asylum of typewriters and tormented thoughts.

The four eras with the most amount of songs are the latest records she owned that aren't re-records: "Lover" (six songs), "Folklore" (seven songs), "Evermore" (five songs) and "Midnights" (seven songs). Will she follow that flow? Will she cut songs from these eras?

I could see her performing the lead single "Fortnight," title track "The Tortured Poets Department," Eras Tour song "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart," "Down Bad," "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me," "thanK you aIMee" and "So High School."

Swift holds the answer key. Sixty-nine shows are left on the recording shattering magnum opus for 2024.

Screen Rant

There is only 1 thing missing from taylor swift’s career after the eras tour movie’s success.

Now that Taylor Swift has dominated the box office and streaming with The Eras Tour concert movie, there's one career move she has yet to pursue.

  • Although she's directed several music videos and the Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions concert documentary, Taylor Swift has yet to direct a feature film.
  • Swift also wrote and directed the highly-praised All Too Well: The Short Film, proving she could pull off directing a feature film.
  • The commercial success of The Eras Tour movie shows that Swift is a major force in the entertainment industry and would be a bankable film director to invest in.

Following the enormous success of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie , there's still one feat the multi-faceted artist has yet to accomplish in her long-spanning career. Although Swift had previously released concert films before The Eras Tour movie , none came close to its acclaim, popularity or success, nor were they given theatrical runs. Like the record-breaking world tour itself, The Eras Tour movie marked a huge new milestone in Swift's career.

Alongside the theatrical release of The Eras Tour movie in October 2023, Swift has continued to dominate the music industry with impressive album sales, high streaming numbers, and consistent wins at major award shows, including the Grammys. In addition to music, Swift has also had acting roles in films like Valentine's Day (2010), Cats (2019), and Amsterdam (2022) and TV shows like CSI and New Girl. There's no doubt that Swift is an accomplished and well-rounded artist, but there's one hat in the entertainment industry that she has yet to try on.

Taylor Swift's 8 Documentaries & Concert Movies, Ranked (Including Eras Tour)

Taylor swift has yet to direct a feature film (& we hope she will), swift has directed several music videos, a short film, & a concert documentary.

Although she has directed several of her own music-related projects, Swift has yet to direct a (nondocumentary) feature film. Swift first took a seat in the director's chair for the music video for "Mine," the lead single off her third studio album Speak Now in 2010, which she co-directed with Roman White. Swift's first solo directorial venture was nine years later with the music video for "ME!," the lead single off her seventh studio album Lover. Swift has directed nearly all her music videos since then, as well as the 2020 Disney+ concert documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Sessions .

13 Taylor Swift Music Videos That Point To A Great Feature Film Directorial Debut

Given her experience with directing her own music videos and concert documentary, Swift is well-suited to direct a feature film.

Given her vast experience directing her own music videos and concert documentary, Swift is well-suited to direct a feature film. It was actually announced back in December 2022 that Swift would write and direct her first full-length movie in collaboration with Searchlight Pictures , but there have been no further updates since then. Hopefully, after the release of Swift's next album The Tortured Poets Department on April 19, 2024, and the conclusion of The Eras Tour on December 8, 2024, her next move will be starting production on this untitled Searchlight film.

Swift is technically credited as the director of the music videos for "I'm Only Me When I'm With You" from her 2006 self-titled debut album and "The Best Day" from her 2008 album Fearless, but since these are both comprised of archive/concert footage, neither are considered her directorial debuts.

1 Taylor Swift Song Is The Perfect Inspiration For Her Directorial Debut (& Has The Actress To Prove It)

Taylor swift’s all too well short film suggests she’s ready to helm a feature, swift wrote & directed the 15-minute short film for the 10-minute vault track from red (taylor's version).

Every music video directed by Swift has demonstrated her keen eye and knack for visual storytelling, but All Too Well: The Short Film proves that she truly has what it takes to helm a feature film. As part of the release of her second re-recorded album, Red (Taylor's Version) , on November 12, 2021, Swift wrote and directed a 15-minute short film adaptation of the vault track " All Too Well (10 Minute Version) ," the unabridged version of the 5-minute Red track of the same name.

Starring Sadie Sink as the song's narrator and Dylan O'Brien as her older boyfriend, All Too Well: The Short Film brings the titular song's story to life onscreen , exploring the different phases of the whirlwind relationship and where it all went wrong. The song serves as a musical backdrop for the short, broken up only by a three-minute verbal dispute between the central couple. At the end of the film, Swift appears as an older version of Sink's character (who is a self-insert for a younger Swift) thirteen years later.

Why Taylor Swift Fans Think All Too Well Is About Jake Gyllenhaal

The renowned work Swift did on All Too Well: The Short Film and the project's positive reception prove that a feature film would be in good hands with Swift at the helm.

All Too Well: The Short Film received high praise and won several major awards, including the Grammy for Best Music Video. The short film also had a limited theatrical run and was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 11, 2022, and the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9, 2022. The renowned work Swift did on All Too Well: The Short Film and the project's positive reception prove that a feature film would be in good hands with Swift at the helm.

All Too Well Film: Every Taylor Swift Easter Egg & Reference

The eras tour movie’s success proves taylor swift’s box office power, the eras tour movie broke several box office records.

All Too Well: The Short Film proves that Swift could pull off directing a feature film on a craft level, and the commercial success of The Eras Tour movie shows that Swift is a major force to be reckoned with at the box office. During its three-month theatrical run, The Eras Tour movie earned $261.7 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo ), surpassing Justin Bieber: Never Say Never as the highest-grossing concert film of all time. The Eras Tour movie broke several other box office records and was even nominated for the first-ever Golden Globe for Best Box Office Achievement.

The Eras Tour movie's success continued to reach new heights when an extended cut called Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) hit streaming on March 14, 2024. Garnering 4.6 million views and 16.2 million hours viewed on Disney+ during its opening weekend, The Eras Tour movie broke a Disney+ streaming record and became the most streamed concert film on the platform.

With these stats, it's clear that Swift can attract audiences no matter the viewing medium. Her star power alone would be enough to sell tickets out the door and rack up views via streaming for her feature directorial debut, making her a bankable film director to invest in. If Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour has taught the world anything, it's that Swift's pull should not be underestimated.

In February, Jennifer Lopez released a bundle of multimedia projects that were each part of a larger statement—arguably, a misguided one—about the power of love or something. One of those was This Is Me … Now , a very cheesy and otherwise unremarkable late-career pop album. The other was This Is Me … Now: A Love Story , a loosely biographical, somewhat egomaniacal adaptation of the album into a blockbuster musical full of astrological melodrama, flashy choreography, and celebrity cameos. Finally, a couple of weeks later, Lopez released The Greatest Love Story Never Told , a behind-the-scenes documentary that’s chiefly about the making of This Is Me … Now: A Love Story but is more notable for its awkwardly invasive glimpses into J.Lo’s famed romance with a dutifully supportive but quite visibly mortified Ben Affleck.

The Ringer ’s Streaming Guide

A collage of characters from popular TV shows, from Barry to Succession

There’s a lot of TV out there. We want to help: Every week, we’ll tell you the best and most urgent shows to stream so you can stay on top of the ever-expanding heap of Peak TV.

This is all, taken together, as overproduced and exasperating as it sounds. Each project has been met with mixed-to-bad reviews and general mockery on social media. J.Lo herself admitted to Variety that she made and self-financed the musical, to the tune of $20 million, even though everyone in her creative orbit, including coproducer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and castmate Jane Fonda, warned her about the risk of further overexposure of her relationship with Affleck. But J.Lo persisted, and the result is a roundly uncanny production that’s distressingly reminiscent of Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All by Myself but also James Cameron’s Avatar and also Paul Hunter’s music video for “Wild Wild West.” Fat Joe plays J.Lo’s therapist, and Jane Fonda plays Sagittarius, in the most cringeworthy release involving either Lopez or Affleck since—too fittingly, really— Gigli. Ticket sales for the tour to promote This Is Me … Now have been exceptionally weak; J.Lo has hastily rebranded the concert series as a greatest hits tour.

The overexposure of pop stars, to a fault, is routine. We know perhaps a bit too much about J.Lo’s pop contemporaries, too, and look: It’s not like Mariah Carey and Justin Timberlake haven’t also pushed their own post-peak vanity projects to weak receptions in recent years. But J.Lo has, for much of her career, been a curiously unsympathetic figure, a stone-cold climber whose missteps draw a great deal of schadenfreude and now something of a backlash.

Lopez has long been a more divisive figure than meets the eye. This was the crux of the drama a couple of months ago on Saturday Night Live , concerning host Ayo Edebiri, costar of The Bear , and musical guest Lopez, as the latter was promoting her aforementioned projects a couple of weeks before their release dates. A day before the taping in New York, TMZ resurfaced some old footage of Edebiri, as a guest on Laci Mosley’s podcast, Scam Goddess , saying Lopez “can’t sing” and describing her musical career as “one long scam.” These were jokes , in one sense—a comedic actor skewering a pop star in a harmlessly petty conversation on a podcast brought to you by Team Coco—but then, yes, actually, this has always been the shadow discourse about J.Lo. She can’t sing, and not in the normal way that a lot of pop stars slathered in Auto-Tune can’t sing; J.Lo goes so far as to hide behind uncredited vocals from other singers, from Ashanti (“I’m Real,” “Ain’t It Funny”) to Meghan Trainor (“Ain’t Your Mama”) . These criticisms are common enough that Lopez, commenting on the footage of Edebiri, told Variety that she’s indeed “heard similar things said about me throughout my career.” While Lopez would publicly insist that Edebiri’s comments were water under the bridge, Edebiri led off her SNL appearance with a sketch referencing her criticism of Lopez , in a half-kidding ritual self-humiliation. This was Lorne Michaels making the most of an awkward situation, sure, but also it felt like Lopez putting Edebiri in her place, even if she wasn’t directly responsible for the sketch’s development. Lopez also made a point of telling Variety that Edebiri apologized to her “with tears in her eyes.”

Such is the role Lopez never sought but has played on and off for decades now: J.Lo as pop villain—or, if not quite villain, a sort of hapless foil. Her famous feud with Mariah Carey in the early 2000s gave us the iconic quote from Carey after she was asked about J.Lo: “I don’t know her.” This was a rivalry born out of Carey’s divorce from her label boss, Tommy Mottola at Sony, who reportedly led the label to aggressively promote Lopez and scornfully sabotage the career of his ex-wife. Mottola and the tabloids pitted these two women against each other, and while the rivalry never escalated into any direct confrontation or explicit denunciation, J.Lo has always come across as the loser—a woman out of her depth.

J.Lo got her start as a Fly Girl on In Living Color and as the breakout star of Gregory Nava’s charming biopic Selena. This was the 1990s. These were, in retrospect, the only years when Lopez was so uncontroversially beloved, before her disastrous involvement with Puff Daddy, before her cold war with Mariah, and before her multimedia reach, far exceeding her grasp, could culminate in something as unwieldy and off-putting as This Is Me … Now: A Love Story. Much of the cynicism about J.Lo over the years, up to its latest climax, concerns her particular proportion of fame and talent. There’s the sense that even the heights of her own career don’t quite compare to those of her contemporaries or earn her the same sort of everlasting goodwill. Mariah Carey was arguably the most formidable female pop singer of her generation, with a fearsome command of five octaves, while Jennifer Lopez was a great dancer with a relatively weak singing voice, evident to anyone who has ever intently listened to the chorus of “Waiting for Tonight.” This contrast was always a bit damning, even if the underlying rivalry was false and, in any case, wasn’t J.Lo’s fault or problem. But J.Lo is a talented entertainer, undeniably, even as she struggles to narrow her ambitions in response to that pesky, inevitable question: talented at what, exactly?

This Is Me … Now: A Love Story possibly would’ve worked better as a back-to-basics dance showcase for Lopez, a savvy capitalization on the goodwill from her impressive performance alongside Shakira at Super Bowl LIV. But, of course, it had to be an overwrought showcase for J.Lo as an actor, singer, writer, producer, and lover, too. “Bennifer” is a tabloid romance for the ages, sure, but also the most consistently overexposed aspect of J.Lo’s legacy and one that’s dramatically at odds with her posturing as “Jenny from the block,” when she is, at this point, so clearly and thoroughly a creature of Hollywood, subject of so much resentment, exactly as Fonda warned her.
